I saw Cirque du Soleil’s Kurios show in Atlanta tonight and I am having Feelings. Just, firstly this has been a lifelong dream of mine, since I first saw a recorded show as a kid. I was captivated then, but never got a chance to see it like until now. Then, there was the fact that this show was steampunk themed, which always gets me extra excited. It’s my favorite aesthetic. Finally, there was just something that felt so much like…home. These are the kind of people I grew up around, talented people who were musicians, tumblers, acrobats and entertainers. It also really brought home to me how talented the people I know from the Renaissance Faires really are, because they are just as talented as the world-class folks at Cirque. And that made me feel warm and fuzzy too. My only regret was that I didn’t have anyone to share the wonder with. I want to go back and take my son or my girlfriend or my partner or all of them. (Also I regret that the seating sucked. I had the best seat in the house, and it was still sucky because we were all crammed together like sardines!)
The show itself was spectacular of course. I can’t possibly recite everything. But a few highlights for me. I was intrigued by the contortionists who had evidently sold their souls for bones made of rubber. They had fascinating costumes reminiscent of sea-creatures, and they did their routine on top of a giant mechanical hand! I also liked the bike messenger girl aerialist. Aerial work is pretty cool anyway, but she did all hers with a bike on wires, including at one point riding the bike completely upside down! Another aerial act, there were two guys who spent most of the show as background characters made to look like conjoined twins, sharing clothing. Then they came out for their solo act and their conjoined clothing was ripped away, leaving them to do a half naked aerial silks routine together. It was surprisingly sensual, though aerial silks always tend to be a bit, and they were very…tender toward each other? There was an extremely homoerotic flavor to the routine not present in the other same-gender groups. Anyway, I also liked the big group trampoline/trapeze act. It was funny, but it also just looked like so much fun! Like, this was a group of guys who were clearly living their childhood dreams of trampoline flips! Finally, I want to mention one particular character. She was part of the in-between acts, the recurring group of characters who were building the story between the acrobatics. She was also one of the few characters with voice lines (all in French unfortunately so I have no idea what she said!) And she was a person with dwarfism. Part of the show she was carried around in the large “mechanical” belly of another character’s costume, and in other parts she did other things like ride around the edge of the stage on a small train or come out of a little round “house” and talk on the phone. She fascinated me throughout it, at least partially because her presence gave another layer to the feel of “Victorian-era circus” of the show, harkening back to a time when people like her were employed in sideshows and circuses to be gawked at. I desperately want to know her story, and how she was cast. Did they go searching for someone of her stature on purpose? Or did they cast her on her skills and then figure out a way to use her size to enhance the show? How did she get into show business? Is it like the bad old days where that’s the only option? Surely not?
Anyway, if you’re anywhere that Kurios is playing (Atlanta until next month, and it’s going to a few other cities worldwide too), I can highly HIGHLY recommend. This may be my favorite Cirque show yet, and not just because I saw it live (that is absolutely a factor though! There’s nothing like having the performers stand a foot from your seat!!)

Cosmic Circus
Chapter 3
The lights started to dim and Y/n stopped talking right as they noticed, and so did a lot of people. Once the audience was quiet, Y/n and Oliver saw a blonde woman with a high ponytail walk into the center.”Alright, everyone, before we get started, I’d like to remind you of the rules here. First, do not try any of this unless you are a professional or you’re learning and have a professional present. Meaning that you shouldn’t try this at home, children.” She said. Quite a few people laughed at this, and so did Y/n. They didn’t usually get the whole “it’s funny cause it’s true” thing, but this was probably an exception since it made them giggle a bit.”Second, no trying to climb on the tent. You do not want to know how many times that has happened and you also don’t want to add another Talley mark. If you do, please leave. Third, don’t climb over the little wall separating you from the ring, especially when the animals are out.” The woman continued explaining the safety rules. Once she was done, the lights went out and two spotlights went on after a few minutes of darkness.
Two animatronic jesters dressed up appeared on two high platforms opposite of each other on either side of the ring. One of them had sun rays on his head and wore red ribbons with yellow bells on both hands, and the other had ribbons and bells too. The one with the sun rays had on a shirt with white puffs at the wrists, right at the ribbons and bells, and it’s plating was a lovely yellow. The collar of the shirt had red puff with white lining, and the sleeves were bright yellow. The pants were the type that you’d see some people wearing in the movie Aladdin, and also were bright yellow with red stripes and red puffs at the ankles with white lining. The shoes were curved at the tip, kind of like elf shoes, and were light brown with small suns painted on where the little bump at the ankles would be, and the eyes were completely white. The second had the exact same clothing design, but the art design was the opposite. Instead of red puffs with white lining, this one had dark blue puffs and white linings. The sleeves and rest of the shirt was a type of blue that was dark, but also light. Kind of like the night sky in a fantasy drawing. This one had a crescent moon on one side of its face and the rest was the same dark blue as the puffs. He had a nightcap on, and Y/n held back a snicker when the thought of how funny he’d look bald crossed their mind. Oliver pointed to them and leaned close to Y/n, to which Y/n assumed they wanted to talk to them and leaned down.”Sun and Moon!” He whispered, and he was rather quiet. He had a big smile on his face, and it was quickly becoming contagious to Y/n, so they smiled back and nodded. Now they were curious about the circus acts. There was a loud drumroll, and when the music started, S let himself fall backwards off the tall platform, which was higher than the audience’s seats.
The spotlight followed him, showing his double flip before catching the trapeze with his hands and swinging beneath the platform. As he swung back to where he caught the trapeze, he pulled his lower body up to hook his legs around it. When he swung back beneath the platform and above the audience’s seats, he smiled and waved to the people watching. Then he refocused himself while swinging back and held his arms out. Y/n hadn’t noticed Moon had jumped off until Sun caught him, the two of them now swinging from the same trapeze.
Down below, a small group of people have come out and started performing tricks such as juggling and spinning around on some kind of giant hoola hoop? (Is that how it’s spelled??) The movement with the hoops reminded Y/n of when they learned how to pole dance. It was kind of embarrassing, since they pretty much only wanted to learn how to spin around and hold themselves on a pole the way performers did. They never wanted to do anything…. that way. But two of their good friends who were a rapidly growing band knew how to do it after a long time, so they decided to teach them and understood why they wanted to learn. So they stayed clear from the acts that were implied. It was great, and Y/n still practices with them now. It was definitely difficult, but now it’s much easier.
After the performance, Y/n walked out with Oliver, who was nearly skipping, but wanted to hold their hand just to make sure they were there. Outside, most of the games and food stands were gone, and the main sources of light were the circus tent they just existed and the bright moon. It was only a half moon, but it’s faint lighting onto the ground was brighter compared to the night sky in the city. The moon was hardly ever visible with the many tall buildings, and its light could never shine through onto the ground with the city lights on all the time. Y/n and Oliver stopped after walking away from the tents, close to the main entrance and exit lined by the many fences that Y/n had dashed passed with their little cousin on their back earlier, and Y/n looked down at him with a smile. People passed by, some yawning.”Did you have fun?” They asked, already knowing the answer. Oliver jumped up and down in excitement for a moment.”Yes, yes, yes!! It was amazing!! Thank you so, so much!!” He said. He hugged their leg tight and paused his bouncing for a moment.”Thank you so much!!” Oliver exclaimed. Y/n picked him up and hugged him. Mission accomplished! They said in their head, little copies of themselves celebrating in their head with loud cheers. Oliver hugged back and smiled, resting his head on their right shoulder with his right cheek squishing a bit.
The feeling of shared love made Y/n forget all about everything negative in the world, now only focusing on how happy they were to be there with their little cousin.“We’re glad you had fun! So did we!” A cheerful voice said behind Y/n. Oliver peaked up and gasped as Y/n turned around. Oliver’s head turned as Y/n did so he could keep looking at the two figures behind them. They were the star acrobatics during the performance, Sun and Moon. Sun’s hands were clasped together and he had a big smile on his face, and Moon smiled as well with his arms behind his back.”We worked hard on the preparations so you’d get an amazing show!” Sun said, taking a few steps closer. Y/n still smiled, but was definitely ready to put Oliver behind them and throw themselves at the performer if he dared upset Oliver. Speaking of Oliver, he broke out of his small trance and kicked his legs a bit.”I did!!!” He exclaimed. Y/n looked at Oliver and then back at the performers with a smaller smile than Oliver, but it was still a happy one.”We both did, you two were excellent.” They said, much calmer than Oliver. Moon walked over to them with his hands and arms still behind his back and Y/n nearly took a step back and changed their demeanor. For a split second, Y/n saw their aunt, Oliver’s mother, and the memory of them protecting Oliver from her when she tried cutting him with the wine bottle he accidentally knocked over and broke. But they were brought back to reality just as quickly as they were taken away from it. Moon seemed quieter than Sun, who was bouncing, and brought out what was behind his back. It was two plushies of themselves.”I had noticed you two tried winning a plush, so I managed to get a pair for you.” He said.
Oliver gasped and looked at Y/n, which he often did when something like this happened to make sure it was okay since he was nearly kidnapped a few times, only one of them he knew he was in danger. Y/n nodded to him and he took the plushies, careful not to snatch so he didn’t seem rude.”Thank you so, so much!!” He said. Sun seemed to match his happiness because he started bouncing a bit and his rays spun around.”Of course, little friend! What’s your name?” Sun asked. Oliver hugged the plushies and looked at both animatronics. Y/n swore they saw anime sparkles for a second.”Oliver! And this is my cousin!” He said. Y/n held back a giggle, they both seemed so silly.”Your cousin? They look very pretty.” Moon said, giving a little bow to Y/n and smiling at them, to which Y/n bowed their head back since they were holding their cousin.”Charmed.” They said, not in a rude tone. Oliver tugged on their sleeve slightly to be put down and Y/n was careful not to drop them or wobble as they set him on the ground.
Sun bent his knees so he was eye level with him and opened his arms.”Before you two leave, how about a hug?” Sun asked. Oliver nearly squealed and held the plushies up to Y/n.”Can you hold them for a second, please?” He asked. Y/n nodded and took the plushies. Oliver rushed to Sun and hugged him, and Sun gladly returned the gesture. His rays stopped spinning so he didn’t accidentally hurt him, but he was definitely very happy. Y/n watched them and Moon noticed their expression wasn’t just one of happiness, but also awareness and anticipation. For a moment, his smile disappeared. Maybe they’re worried something will happen to him? No, Sun is kind. He’s energetic, but definitely gentle and won’t hurt him. Moon thought. He cleared his throat and Y/n looked at him for a moment, but returned their gaze to Sun and Oliver. Moon was going to say something, but was cut off.”Thank you for this, it really made his night.” Y/n said. M smiled.”It was a pleasure.” He said. He bent down with his arms open, to which Oliver immediately switched to him from Sun and hugged him. After the hug, Oliver grabbed Y/N’s hand and Y/n double checked their pocket to make sure they had their keys.”You’re leaving already? Well, take this with you!” Sun said as he and Moon stood up. He held out a small piece of paper and Moon looked a bit surprised at Sun. Y/n took the paper from his hand .”We have to get going now. Have a good night.” Moon said, grabbing Sun’s hand and walking away as Oliver waved bye at them.”You too.” Y/n said. Sun waved back at Oliver and Y/n smiled.
“That was the best!!” Oliver exclaimed as they started walking. Y/n smiled and handed back the plushies, letting out a yawn.”I’m glad you had so much fun, but now it’s time to go back.” They said. Oliver nodded in agreement and they continued walking as the followed the fence. There were a lot less cars, so it wasn’t hard to spot the one they rode on the way.”Yeah, I’m sleepy. Can we make a fort when we get back, though?” Oliver asked. Y/n smiled fondly at the idea and carefully put the paper Sun gave them into their pocket, switching it with their keys.”Of course. Feel like grabbing Sonic for dinner?” Y/n asked. Oliver gasped and nodded quickly, doing a little bounce.”Yes!” He said. They continued walking along the fence. It felt much longer compared to when they arrived.

I Nanirossi a Serres (Gr)!

Danny, after going on a walk through the Ghost Zone, comes across a very friendly couple who quasi-adopt him.
They're super cool, too!
They used to be a part of a traveling circus, and they know how to do all sorts of neat tricks and flips and they teach him how to do them too!
Honestly, with their help his flying becomes next level; they forced him to obey gravity long enough to learn how to ignore it without using his abilities, and as such he gets a greater understanding of how to maneuver through it.
So when his Freshman class goes to Gotham on a field trip (scare tactic to prevent them from becoming drop outs because "oh if you drop out you'll resort to being a thug and you'll be trapped in this cursed city foreverrrrrr ooooooooo~") Danny decides to show off to Sam and Tucker in a small park.
He does a quadruple flip off of a wall he ran up.
Barbara stares in disbelief through her cameras.
That.
That shouldn't be possible?
She calls Dick to ask if he had any siblings or cousins he wasn't aware of.

Cosmic Circus
Chapter 2
“And I call me wife and I says to her; Would you kindly tell to me…” Y/n and Oliver were still on the road to the festival, but they were getting closer and closer. They had gone through a playlist of songs, and were finishing off the last one as the festival entered their view.”Who owns a head upon the bed where my old head should be? Ah, you’re drunk, you’re drunk, you silly old fool, still you cannot see!” Singing a song you both enjoyed was a great way to pass the time while on the road. Y/n scanned the dirt parking lot and quickly found at least 5 spots open.”That’s a baby boy that me mother sent to me! Well, it’s many a day I’ve traveled a hundred miles or more! But a baby born with his whiskers on sure I’ve never saw before!” Y/n turned off the playlist once the music stopped playing and pulled into a parking spot near the circus tents.
Once they were done, they turned off the car and pulled their keys out.”Alright, are you excited?” They asked. Oliver nodded quickly and unbuckled his seat belt as Y/n did the same and stepped out. They walked over to where he was getting out and helped him get down.”Let’s go, let’s go!” Oliver said as he grabbed Y/N’s hand. He was barley on the ground for ten seconds and already he was pulling her, and Y/n pressed a button on their car keys to lock it before going along with him. They had to walk down a path before they could get to the festival, and they didn’t want to be late.”Wait, get on my back.” Y/n said as they crouched. Oliver turned around and immediately listened, climbing onto their back and wrapping both arms and legs around them. Y/n stood up easily, exercising with their friends was starting to pay off with how often Oliver can ride like the wind on their back. They started running towards the festival, bidding a few strangers they passed a good morning, and was at the entrance without breaking a sweat. Oliver stayed on their back and moved his head to the side so he could see. Y/n walked up to a booth to ask the man there some questions.”Excuse me, do you know where we can get tickets for the circus? Or are we too late?” They asked. Oliver gasped at the second question and frowned, clearly hoping they weren’t.
The man smiled.”Right here, my friend. And you’re actually really early, the time is 8:30PM. I’ve had a few people come by thinking it was 8:30AM, so you’re not the first to make that mistake.” He replied. He actually seemed happy with his job, which is not something Y/n sees a lot. Or he’s just great at customer service, unlike the jack-wagons in the city. Oliver smiled and calmed down.”Oh, really? I’m glad. Probably a bit too early, but hey, if it was at 8:30AM, we probably would’ve missed it since it’s 11:35.” Y/n said, feeling relieved as well. They didn’t want to let their little cousin down. The man nodded and handed them the tickets.”New policy, early arrivers get free tickets. But don’t tell anyone.” He whispered. Oliver put his hand up to his forehead like a drill sergeant.”Yes, sir.” He said. The man found this funny and laughed, and so did Y/n.”Thank you so much. Have a good day, sir.” They said before walking off. The man bid them a good day back before they got out of earshot and Y/n put the tickets in their pocket before turning to Oliver.”So, what would you like to do in the meantime?” They asked. Oliver looked around, there were rides, games, and food stands all over the place. Of course, there was plenty distance between them, and the ground was like a sand-ish dirt mixed with gravel. Oliver pointed to a seating area.”Can we go there and just talk until it’s time?” He asked. Y/n turned and started walking in that direction, it was a shaded area with a few food and drink stands nearby, along with some benches and tables placed evenly under the tarp.”Sure, buddy. How about we plan our next Minecraft build?” Y/n asked.
Oliver bounced a little bit and smiled.”Yeah!” He said. It was a pretty common topic for the two of them. After all, Minecraft was a game they both loved. Y/n was considered a Minecraft veteran, and sometimes felt like an old, kind wizard helping a young knight on their journey. And gave him enough room to personally learn from his mistakes, of course.
{Time Skip}
“Those nachoes were the best!” Oliver said. He put his paper plate in the recycling bin and Y/n smiled as he grabbed their hand.”They were. But now it’s 8:00, the circus is starting soon.” They said. Oliver gasped and quickly pulled on their arm like a human-loving dog wanting desperately to go say hi to the people across the street, and started running. Y/n did a little semi run along with them until they reached the entrance to the tent, the same guy from earlier was standing at the entrance with two security guards. The tent’s pattern was split in two at the entrance. The right side was bright yellow with a sun that was a much lighter, but definitely visible shade of yellow than the rest, along with big white stars that look like they were drawn by a child across the bottom. The left side was a dark blue with a white moon, and also had the white stars along the bottom. The line was small now, but it’d get really big soon. From what Y/n heard, these people weren’t like other performers. They only had one show, and a really big one, instead of multiple smaller shows. Y/n looked at the sign, those with tickets already were allowed to get ahead of those who haven’t bought the tickets yet, especially if they got them much earlier. Meaning they’d be allowed to skill ahead. Still, Y/n had that nagging feeling that they should wait like everyone else.
They imagined themselves being accused of thinking they were better than everyone, or everyone looking at them like they were an idiot. At least their little cousin was able to snap them out of their mental scenarios by tugging on their arm.”Look! It says we can get ahead!” Oliver said, pointing at the sign. Y/n smiled and nodded, letting him pull them right to the front with the other people who had gotten their tickets earlier as well. They only had to wait a few minutes before it was their turn.”We meet again, young soldier.” The man said dramatically. Oliver smiled and Y/n handed him the tickets, which he took and proceeded to open the entrance for them.”Right this way. I suggest not being so close to the bottom of the seats, it gets really loud.” He said. Oliver saluted him and marched right in with Y/n nodding and giggling at their cousin’s silly behavior as they followed him into the large circus tent.
The inside was massive. Yeah, the outside was huge too, but it was still amazing how big it was. The shape of the inside and seats were a traditional oval or cylinder shape that a lot of circuses have. Like a theater, the seats rose up a bit with every row until they reached about half the size of the tent. There were entrances in between the seats, most likely where any performers would enter from, about 6 of them, splitting up the rows of seats. Y/n knew they’d be sitting in one of the general seating areas and walked to the right, choosing one of the general seating areas closer to the entrance of the audience. Oliver and Y/n walked up the stairs and took a seat in one of the middle rows, but was a bit higher up. There weren’t many people yet, so Y/n and Oliver didn’t have much to do but talk while they wait.
