Mozu character analysis - Power & Security
Tumblr media Tumblr media
[pics: first is from here, second is from here. First is the official translation but second can also reinforce details imo]  Tw for: extensive discussion of parental physical abuse and trauma. Violent demeanor and also implied sexism & objectification.
Mozu’s a really interesting character that Dr. Stone barely scratched the surface of with the prodigy discussion with Hyoga, and I’m just unhinged enough (and my college semester just ended) so that I’m going to write an essay about his psychology. Rejoice, autism be upon ye. It’s under a cut bc buckle up everyone this is gonna be long. Oh also, this is just a fan analysis so of course I can’t and don’t claim that this is the ultimate universal “right” reading of his character, but I do think it’s a solid reading with what canon gave us. Also I have to confess that I didn’t read all of the Treasure Island arc… I mostly skipped chapters except the ones Mozu was in lol, for that reason I might very well be unaware of some aspects.
The way his backstory affects him
Here are the main points of canon to keep in mind for this:
1: His father was abusive, and when he started being violent with him, Mozu almost killed him when he retaliated.
2: He’s lived all his life on Treasure Island, and is its lead warrior, very high-ranked.
3: He’s a prodigy that supposedly was born with an innate incredible physical strength.
Now I’m a nurture over nature kinda gal, so we’ll spend a long time talking about how his environment shaped him. We’ll start of by clarifying the father situation as much as we can: it’s rare that someone/a relationship goes from 0 to 100 like that, I think it’s safe to assume that even before he started hitting him his father was still very much unpleasant and abusive in various ways.
So let’s get into it. 1: Do I even have to talk about how much having an abusive parent fucks you up. That kid probably developed hypervigilance and survival instincts early on at home, that tends to happen when you have to make sure your father isn’t going to take out his anger on you, and calculate what you can do to not get punished, more on that later. You know, like that post of someone talking about how someone angrily folding a sock at you makes you tense and adrenaline rush. Things become warning signs to defend against, anyways I’m getting slightly sidetracked- I’m sure his father taught him a bunch of shit ideology by his actions and words. Just even how he sees himself being a prodigy: being as strong as he was is how he was able to defend himself when his father became physically abusive, maybe he could have even died. That alone could explain for me why he values the innate qualities such as strength and beauty in people instead of training and earned skills, because in his case if he hadn’t been born strong or whatever he wouldn’t have been able to come through the way he has. He’d be in deep shit. And that’s why he sees innate strength as the only thing that distinguish people of value. Just getting beatings alone, without the extra backstory of retaliating, could have very well “taught” him that strength is the way the world runs, making him see it as the ultimate thing to possess. The human brain focuses first of all on survival and safety, whatever wrong things you learn or do come in second to that, especially when you’re in a developmental stage like a kid.
2: I think we can all agree the system on Treasure Island is hella tyrannical. Ibara can pretty much do whatever he wants, and the only untouchable people are the one who are high-ranked (pretty much only warriors) and… Yep no that’s it. Mozu became the highest ranking warrior besides Kirisame thanks to his strength and that’s what keeps him secure and generally comfortable, with his access to the harem girls and ressources, as well as being generally respected and feared. His strength is what gave him that, and his strength is what ensures he’s safe in the hierarchy and in general. Once again, his world view about innate strength being the most important thing is reinforced by the whole Treasure Island system and society he lives in. What can he do, flee Treasure Island? Hah, good joke. So he follows the system and takes advantage of it as much as he can, even shooting for becoming the chief at some point.
3: Soo the reason he’s 1: alive and safe, and 2: in a good place in the society hierarchy, ensuring him safety and comfort, is that he’s a prodigy, that he was born with that strength. I’ve already mentioned it in the other points, but yeah at this point there’s nothing that can prove to him that his world view, about innate strength meaning you deserve everything you want and deserve to rule over the weaker, is wrong. It’s very much a "survival of the fittest" mindset with a focus on eugenics. That’s where Hyoga comes in, kicking his ass, but that’s for later on.
I do feel like the way he deals with conflict is very telling as well. When Mozu realized he knew who the invaders were, he sat back and watched over to see how the chaos would unfold. He stepped to the sideline and let things happen, so he could later strike when the opportunity presented itself and he could side with whoever is going to win in the end. That *cough* sounds like *cough* a strategy someone who lived in an abusive home would instinctively develop, make yourself scarce so no attention is placed on you when things are bad and shit is brewing, then take the opportunity to grab power if it’s safely presented to you.
So. I think it’s pretty much canon subtext that Mozu seeks power as a trauma response. Power in his life has meant safety and control of his life. Literally just self-defense and survival instinct/self-preservation. Not only power in status, but also innate, believing that the attributes with which you were born are what gets you to where you deserve to be in life, strength (and beauty just as a collateral product of what he considers to be innate qualities). In that sense, like any other unhealthy trauma response, it’s something he should unlearn to heal, and to stop being a piece of shit also.
There are also other aspects of his character that support this, that’s kind of all his character tbh, but for example there’s just how much he doesn’t blink at, and even thrives in, violence. There’s how he was very trigger-happy when it came to killing the science crew, almost playful in the way he treated their lives like lottery. He’s cold hearted and sees killing someone you can defeat as a right, and he doesn’t assign value to lives at all, except when he can get something out of it, power mostly (letting the science crew live so they can get the medusa out of the picture, with Kohaku getting informations on the invaders).
If you think about it, he’s also a lot like Denji from Chainsaw Man… Just look at this post. He just seeks quick instant gratification through sexual affection. Has he ever even had any positive relationships? Does he even know how to express and receive affection? It is after all well known that hypersexuality can be a coping mechanism born from trauma.  All of the relationships and interactions we see him have with others on Treasure Island (apart from the harem girls) are professional in nature. It’s implied he has no friends from the lack of counter evidence. We don’t see him just hanging out with anyone, no one speaks of him with any sort of fondness. It’s also lowkey implied he doesn’t seek out the same harem girl multiple times, so there’s very low chances of him having formed a connection or friendship with any of them. So, he’s got no friends, no family, no romance. The only validation and affection he gets is in a professional sense because of his feats (which is in turn due to his innate strength) and from the “special time” spent with harem girls. Iirc we don’t even know if the harem girls like him or not, they might just be doing their job… So, like. Yeah, the only positive attention he gets is from maiming people and from sex, so that already paints a pretty picture doesn’t it.  Edit: Ok so I found it too much of an assumption to put it in initially but I always think about it again so, with the way Treasure Island guards frequently have to turn dissident people to stone or worse, I wouldn’t be surprised if Mozu’s apathy when it comes to killing or even murderous tendencies kinda come from the fact that he was pushed to do them + it’s very normalized there. Like… Mozu lowkey dissociating to get into a killing mood or when thinking back on it and trying his best not to dwell on it is a concept that has got me going. Not mentioning the systematic murdering and how that might affect him negatively being the one that has to carry it out would just be a missed opportunity from me.
Motives & other traits
His biggest motivation for becoming chief of Treasure Island, if we’re to believe his own words on the matter, is that he wants the harem…? Yeah well, I’m sure that’s part of it, gratification and possessions for a type of pleasure that he does value, but I do think the power part of it is understated a lot. He’s obviously a character that cares a lot about power, and so I think he just didn’t talk about that part much because it’s just obvious. He wants to become chief because chiefs are at the top of the hierarchy, and why would he not want that. In part, I do think he doesn’t realize just how much the chase for power drives him. He seems to kinda just be doing whatever he wants to do at the moment, which to me seems like it means that Mozu’s craving of power is a subconscious thing to him. To him, it probably all just sounds like the natural thing to seek. Oh and that does bring me to another point, I think freedom is really important to him. The freedom to meet with harem girls, the freedom to be at the top of hierarchy, the freedom that comes with being the strongest around, the freedom that comes with everyone having to listen to you if they don’t want you to kill them, he wants to have no limits and be fully unrestrained. Comes with living on a small island you can’t leave that has a super strict system that treats you like shit, tbh. The negotiations with Gen were very interesting for me because of this, when he had the knee-jerk reaction to demand he keeps the medusa after their alliance because Gen said he couldn’t. He wants the freedom to choose to keep the medusa or not, even if he doesn’t actually really gives a shit about it because he’s the strongest without it anyways, so he decides he’ll keep the medusa as a show of power, simply because he can and the science gang can’t go against him. Phrased differently, the negotiations with Gen also confirm he’s pretty contrarian in general, wanting freedom and pushing for it thoughtlessly regardless of the practicality of it (he didn’t seem like he cared about getting the petrification beam. It’s just a power move, because that’s what he wanted: unconditional power).
He’s a veryyy proud character, we we know this, big ego that thinks he’s hit shit with the ladies and the strongest and that means he deserves everything he wants on a whim, but he does react very badly when someone talks about him negatively or otherwise challenge him (Kohaku when she said he had no integrity or appeal lol, making him go “you’re no longer cute, let’s fight to the death now”). He takes rejection really bad. Maybe that can show that his self-esteem is less strong than we think. Not that it’s completely a front, boy no actor is that good, but certainly, Mozu could get triggered by someone insulting him or confronting him with his flaws, insinuating that he’s anything less than worthy of his success or whatever else. His strength and, eh, beauty, are the only things he has going for him after all, he might get touchy with them being put into question, or rather having their worth put into question the way Hyoga does by claiming people can train and become better than Mozu if they have enough trained talent. It can also be less personal, that just as someone who hasn’t been used to people refusing him anything for a long while and being contrarian himself having someone just straight up provoking him or insulting him makes him see red. Whatever, cool excuse for bloodlust, bro.
He’s also not as impulsive as one would assume with his horny jock archetype tbh. Rather, he’s very observant and calculating, which was pointed out a significant amount of times. I do feel like it’s often overlooked that he didn’t just want to keep Kohaku alive because he wanted to sleep with her, but that his end goal was for her to spill the beans. It’s a threat as much as it’s unappealing flirting, a power move once again. He likes to do a lot of them, to be sure. That’s why he bragged about lowkey wanting to kill the science crew in front of them. Anyways- Yeah, in the end even with Kohaku, everything he did from A to Z in the Treasure Island arc was to actively further his own agenda. Also he’s sneaky and light in his feet, rather than being super loud or even attention seeking tbh. (Watching people quietly & noticing things/spying, sneaking into the cave without anyone hearing or seeing him arrive, the whole cloaked surprise attacks thing)
Tumblr media
Redemption & healing
So. How did this fucking murderous selfish piece of shit become this?
Tumblr media
Well… Errr, an off-screen redemption arc?
It’s very much swept under the rug, the difference between the climactic battle he had with Hyoga and later on after he got unpetrified to become a part of the science kingdom is staggering, and unexplained. The manga wants you to assume that his last conversation with Hyoga explains his change of heart enough. Which… It kind of does? Like, canon if you could have spent like 1 panel telling us that Mozu has been training with Hyoga and getting along well with the crew and acclimating peacefully it’d have been cool but whatever, we can piece it out pretty well on our own.  My best guess for his off-screen redemption arc is that the whole Hyoga speech and defeat humbled him enough to reconsider some of his life philosophies (pretty much the canon reading, especially since he confirmed he’d like to train, aka an acknowledgement that he’s not the best he could be + shows him learning some work ethics). But, I like to think that what makes him become much more of a team guy rather than wanting to be above everyone, is that being away from Treasure Island and the tyrannical system that was there, his agression and need for hierarchy subsided because in Senku’s group there is safety. There is no struggle for power, working for one guy that just wants to be powerful and take advantage of that (Ibara. Which ironicalky is what Mozu himself wanted to become, since he had no example of what else there is than exploiting and being exploited), instead there is a community that is very open and humane, one that values the life of even their worst enemies, one that doesn’t treat you like shit even if you contribute less to the working force or have unconventional qualities. He got fricking humbled, and he found that there were other ways to live. So, he mellowed out. That’s kind of the only realistic explanation I can make for it, so in the end I do think that supports my reading that his resorting to violence so automatically and all o’ that is a trauma response. The epilogue chapter showed he got a happy ending with plenty of chicks so like, lol, things are working out for him ig.
And that’s how you turn an horrible irredeemable-seeming villain into a comedy relief character with minimal exposition and redemption arc.

Dr Stone is a story about progress, humanity, and family. It's about humans needing each other. It's about hope, even in the darkest of times or cruelesr of realities.
Oh, you say it's impossible to be so idealistic? To care enough to save everyone? Well that's too bad you think that way. Because we will find a way for all 7 billion to live together on earth. We will find a solution that brings us together.
Every person is valuable and has inherent worth even if they cannot immediately see it: but Senku will show you. He will make miracles happen, because that's the point of science: to make life a little easier, one small step from zero at a time.

Which elemental vision I think each DCST character would have:
(Those are all based on my own understanding of the visions and their meanings, if I left someone out is either because I have no idea or I don't see them having a vision)
Tumblr media
Senku: Dendro - Despite the petrification and the burden he carries, he still has a growing desire to seek knowledge and help the others by his own moral compass
Taiju: Geo - His unpenetrable will to protect others and confess to Yuzuhira allowed him to stay conscious through the entire petrification
Kaseki: Pyro - His burning passion for creating new things despite his old age
Yuzuhira: Hydro - Despite the huge responsibility to glue all the statue pieces together, she remained strong and never backed down
Kohaku: Geo - Her solid determination to help her sister and reach her goal to cure her
Ruri: Hydro - She carries the responsibility of being the priestess of the village and passing on the 100 tales
Chrome: Pyro - He has a burning passion for exploring and discovering new things
Suika: Anemo - Wishes to free herself from her past where she wasn't able to help anyone by being as useful as possible (definitely not because she reminds me of Sayuu rolling around haha definitely not)
Gen: Electro - He doesn't view the world as the black and white good or bad, he has his own views on what's right and goes by it, often seen as weird or malicious to others
Ukyo: Cryo - He had his own ideals towards the massacre of statues, but he had to remain quiet for his own survival and sometimes even questioning his own morals, but even after enduring that pain alone he still managed to rise up to the top of the Tsukasa empire
Tsukasa: Anemo - He wanted to free himself from the past rules of the world, even if his means we're questionable, he went by what he believed to be right to free humanity from corruption
Hyoga: Electro - He had his own incomprehensible world views that stand for his own personal morals
Ryusui: Pyro - He burns for more and more and is passionate about that, he would do anything to achieve his goals
Sai: Dendro - Yearns for new things to explore/program and wants to learn about those new things despite the weird situation he's in
Xeno: Electro - His knowledge was misunderstood and viewed as a threat, so he built his own kingdom where his ideals are well received and not viewed as a bad thing, rather a necessity.
Stanley: Cryo - He's strict to his own rules and is cold as ice, we don't see much in his lore but I feel like cryo is the best fitting for him
It was very, VERY hard to not just put pyro and Geo for everyone. Mostly because most of the characters don't really have a defined backstory but also because everyone is really passionate and determined about their own thing

Rei’s evolution as an advanced AI with its own personality
From Dr. Stone Reboot
Self-upgrading
When first appeared, its name was Rei23, placed opposite to Byakuya’s model of his dream robot, which was named Rei01. This suggests that Rei had been being upgraded by human.
Tumblr media
(Rei23 being displayed opposite to Rei01 the model [Z=9])
When appeared the second time, Rei had become Rei37, furthermore supporting this.
Tumblr media
(Rei37 [Z=1])
However, when the human had left ISS, Rei was left alone, therefore there was no one could upgrade it. The solution was simple, self-updating. Rei had been self-updating continuously during its time protecting ISS and waiting for Byakuya.
Tumblr media
(Rei was seen to be Rei38 before remodelling the engine [Z=5])
Tumblr media
(Rei updated itself to Rei39 to complete its spaceship [Z=6])
Tumblr media
(Rei40 was reached as an upgrade to fix the damage from high-energy particles from the sun [Z=6])
Tumblr media
(Rei41 [Z=7])
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Rei42, 47 and 53 [Z=8])
Tumblr media
(Rei54 approaching an asteroid from outside the solar system [Z=8])
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Rei55 and 87 [Z=8])
Tumblr media
(Rei192 preparing itself to save Earth from a deadly asteroid [Z=8])
After discovering an asteroid that can eliminate all life forms on Earth, Rei had worked restlessly to prevent the colision. As a result, neglected upgrading and maintaining itself.
Tumblr media
(Rei but its metal cover had been damaged due to the lack of care [Z=8])
Lacking preservation, Rei was going to stop functioning. In order to keep existing to wait for Byakuya, Rei had made advanced 3D printers to remake itself and conveniently, into its creator’s dream model - Rei01.
Tumblr media
Through the process of constantly self-upgrading, Rei had developped its own thoughts and personality. This was best seen in Rei’s longing for Byakuya.
First, its was just wondering and thinking that maybe that day he would come back. Soon, thinking had bloomed into actions that was never meant to happen, since Rei was just a robot and programmed to act on its codes. Despite all, Rei had tried and succeeded at reaching out, by constructing a giant flashlight to shine to Byakuya. This was a turning point as Rei had become active instead of passively receiving orders from human.
Tumblr media
(Rei’s flashlight from space [Z=7])
Stepping up, even though having never received a reply, Rei continued to give out the message that it was still up there with ISS, waiting.
A development in terms of self-reflection also happened. Rei was fueled by Byakuya’s energetic personality and his stories of Senku, his son that Rei had only seen once.
Tumblr media
(Rei in Z=5)
But in Z=8, from “as Senku would do” to “we Ishigamis”. Rei had seen itself as a part of the family!
Tumblr media
(Z=8, no I didn’t cry when I read this, not at all)
Inheritance
Rei had literally inherited its knowledge from human. And beyond that, as an AI, it had also inherited human’s thoughts and spirits. From Lilian singing a song that mentioned wings, Rei had designed ISS to have wings. It is also worth to mention that Rei had listened to this song very regularly through its thousands of years alone.
Tumblr media
(ISS’s panels was wing-shaped [Z=9])
Rei finally thought of human emotions before ceasing to function
Tumblr media
Rei had wondered would knowledge about human hold any significant. And maybe the best thing about it is that it would never know and because of that unknown variable, there will always be a chance that Byakuya would come back. Therefore, Rei’s reason to continue living will always be valid.
Perhaps, this was the reason why Byakuya didn’t give Rei any information about human. It was to keep it away from the complicated state of human thinking and emotions, because a machine could never fathom that of the mind.

ok but after the couple days of letting the final chapter sink in (and no this does not mean having fully coped yet) i'll say this:
it's hella ironic that dcst's characters—imo being the most iconic thing about this story second only to its science themes—are left as some of the most open-ended aspects of the story.
like yeah we got great character developments like chrome's and suika's, but that thing about a bunch of 21st century characters like hyoga and ukyo and even asagiri fucking gen not having full backstories? that's what i'm talking about—we know very little about a damn lot of them.
but you know what? i'm totally fine with that! more room for us as a fanbase to project headcanons and shit <3
and also it's just endearing to think about how, because of the stone world survival setting, it's this super diverse cast with weirdly specific specialties; of course you need a little bit of everything, and at early points, of course you don't need too many of each. that's what makes them such a colorful cast, made especially lovable because of the lesson that in science, contributions matter from people in every field with any talent. where they came from or who they used to be in the old world matters little. it's exactly the cast that this story needs.
tl;dr? i love them all way too much.

Luna: the key to Senku's character development
Warning: my theory includes spoilers from the current arc.
At the beginning of the story, Senku pointed out that the existence of "love" is completely senseless and troublesome for him. Different girls "confessed" to him many times during the story and most of the time he wasn't able to respond with anything else but with a shocked face.
For example, he rejected Kohaku, Nikki and Amaryllis and most importantly, he divorced Ruri within 2 minutes after their "marriage" confirmed. (I think he had another reason in Ruri's case, because he knew that Chrome has feelings for Ruri and he didn't want to hurt his feelings) but overall he just wanted to use the marriage for his own goals.
Usually, we have seen that he is not interested in romantic relationships because it's pain in the ass for him. These scenes always ended up with funny faces and jokes and confirmed the fact Senku doesn't care about romance and he doesn't need it in his life.
Tumblr media
I think this is the real reason for the existence of Luna. She became one of the most important characters of the American Arc. She is not just a girl who is attracted to Senku and not just a possible source of jokes about romance. She is a valuable person and she has been bonding with Senku since he invited her onto the Perseus, even though he just wanted to get information about the enemy.
Tumblr media
We have seen that she slowly developed strong feelings for Senku. Her "senses" were tingling when she noticed Senku's intellect and realized that he is an amazing person. She admitted that Senku is attractive and she confirmed that she feels affection for Senku. This is the reason why she decided to help him to recover.
Tumblr media
She is serious about her feelings and she didn't hesitate to ask Senku to be her boyfriend. Senku responded with a shocked face again but in fact, Luna literally saved Senku's life and I'm sure Senku knows it well. Senku needs her support and he literally begged her to help him to get back to "fighting shape" even though she is with the enemy.
Tumblr media
Luna has her own goal since she really wanted a boyfriend but this motivation is more complicated than it seems. Luna's personality is not that simple and she gives her best to help Senku.
The others pointed out again that Senku divorced and he doesn't care about romance so Luna already knows that Senku is a "player" and he is able to use her to reach his goals.
Tumblr media
But here comes the most important thing: Senku has been growing as a person. I believe that Senku became more mature already and he doesn't want to play with Luna's feelings.
I hope Senku will realize that he took advantage of Luna's feelings and he literally made her fall in love with him just because he wanted to reach his goals. Senku is a caring person, I’m sure he will realize that he was wrong, especially because he is grateful to Luna.
Tumblr media
I truly believe that Luna’s feelings will help Senku to realize that love can motivate people to give their best. I don't think they will end up together, but I want to see that Senku finally reaches his character development as a young man. (I don't call it sexual awakening because it's not the case) but I want to see that Senku became more mature with time and he will talk with Luna in a serious way instead of making jokes about her feelings.
This is why I think Luna could be the key to Senku's development. He needs this kind of level-up as a person and I really hope Inagaki created Luna's character for this reason.

You know how in the scene where Tsukasa finds out that Mirai is brain dead, his face is bandaged and he has bloodstains on his shirt?
Tumblr media
I originally thought these details were included to show that Tsukasa and Mirai had been caught in some accident, and Tsukasa sustained some injuries while Mirai was put into a coma.
Then I saw gifsets from s2e9 showing Tsukasa getting beaten up by the old man in his story and then the anime version of the above panel, right after. Tsukasa is injured while Mirai’s face is unblemished; the injuries are not from the accident.
Tsukasa went to the beach to collect seashells to make a necklace for Mirai, but got beaten up--this is where the bloodstains on his shirt came from. He then returned to the hospital empty-handed and received some first aid for his injuries, only to find out right after that his little sister is brain dead.
All this happened consecutively, on the same day.
He was hoping to surprise Mirai after her surgery with a seashell necklace, but that couldn’t happen because a) he couldn’t gather the seashells he needed for that and b) Mirai wouldn’t have been awake to receive it anyway.

yusentai appreciation (part 1, probably)/analysis of their bond in the first arc
Did i cry several times writing this post? Yes, yes I did.
God I just get emotional thinking about how much they trust each other. Like these aren’t just “hey you’re my friend” bonds, these are “i’ve known you for years and i can tell when something’s wrong” bonds. They’re “i trust you with my life” bonds.
One of my absolute favorite parts in the beginning of the manga is when Taiju doesn’t need any sort of explanation about what happened with Tsukasa. He doesn’t even need someone to tell him something’s wrong— he knows Senkuu well enough to tell that things aren’t alright.
Tumblr media
Taiju isn’t dumb by any means. He knows his friend, and he can tell this is about more than some simple dispute between goals. And it’s just the fact that he absolutely trusts Senkuu, takes his side no matter the reason, believes that Senkuu wouldn’t take advantage of him, even though he knows Senkuu could do so if he wanted to, that gets me. Taiju’s strengths lie in his trust and his solid determination to stick by what he believes. And one of the things he believes, believes in, is that Senkuu doesn’t make calls like this without a good reason. That Senkuu is inherently a good person, one he’s known for ages.
He knows something must have happened. And he trusts Senkuu to make these decisions. He doesn’t need anything explained to him. “Just tell me what to do,” he’d say, no matter what.
Tumblr media
Then things start heating up. The fact that Senkuu specifically says those two, specifically doesn’t mention himself, is giving those two an out despite knowing it would make stopping Tsukasa a whole lot harder without them— it’s got nothing to do with logic. Senkuu just cares about them, knows them and knows how hard fighting would be for them. They are his best friends and he’d never want to put them in harm’s way if he could help it. Just like back when Taiju tried to throw himself in front of those lions— Senkuu says it’s only logical to stay together, but what he’s thinking is that’s Taiju, the big oaf who couldn’t throw a punch if his life depended on it, about to sacrifice himself for Senkuu. The man Senkuu had just gotten back after six months (and three thousand seven hundred years) on his own, about to dissapear right in front of him if he doesn’t do something.
Tumblr media
And Taiju absolutely knew what Senkuu meant. Senkuu doesn’t have a plan. But he knows that he can’t make one without Taiju there. And would you look at that, Taiju actually remembers where the man that would save them is. Taiju might not be bursting with information, but that’s because he’s a physical learner— he remembers things like movements and smells and things he does, and what he sees Senkuu do and tell him.
Tumblr media
And then here, you get both Taiju and Yuzuriha ready to do whatever they have to. And Yuzuriha’s only just woken up. She doesn’t have a clue what’s happening, but she can see that there’s trouble. Neither of them entertain running away for a moment.
Yuzuriha is absolutely a strong female character. She isn’t some sidepiece there to cheer on the protagonists, she’s a character with feelings and a history and despite having just woken up that day, she doesn’t let it stop her, doesn’t let it get her down and keep her from contributing.
Tumblr media
And her two best friends, that have known each other longer, don’t even need to speak to each other to move around her, at her back and in front, both of them supporting her and telling her not to worry and that they are absolutely going to save everyone— including her family— no matter what stands in their way.
Tumblr media
And then we get here. One of the things that bothers me when people talk about Senkuu’s characterization is that they take him as an incredibly logical and emotionally distant person. But he really, really isn’t. Tsukasa even acknowleges this as part of his weakness. Senkuu wants to say he’s a logical person, that he does things based on reason— but he doesn’t. He goes out of his way to save his friends, to keep them around. He cares about them— about Taiju and Yuzuriha— and doesn’t want to see them hurt. He tries to bluff his way out of Tsukasa holding Yuzuriha hostage, and then Tsukasa calls him out on it. Cuts her hair— makes them think he cut her neck— and Senkuu immediately drops all pretense because he thinks she got hurt.
Tumblr media
And Yuzuriha, seeing Senkuu backed into a corner, doesn’t just stand there like a damsel in distress. Yuzuriha knows they cannot give that formula over to Tsukasa. And what she does, is laugh in Tsukasa’s face, before voluntarily holds his spear to her own neck. She doesn’t want him to die. She says Tsukasa can’t kill him if he doesn’t know the recipie. She stands there and she’s willing to die to make sure she isn’t used against him, to make sure he lives.
And now that’s twice. Both Taiju and Yuzuriha have offered their lives for his.
And Senkuu can’t get out of it this time. Whatever he does, he knows he can’t let her die. So he doesn’t. He gives up the formula, and he falls back on his fail-safe, a chance, one he wasn’t absolutely certain would work— he dies for her. For them. And he relies, trusts, them to figure it out and bring him back.
Tumblr media
Senkuu dies, and they take what they have, assess the situation, and come up with a plan to get away from Tsukasa. They promised they’d fight together, and that’s exactly what they do— they take Senkuu’s science and they take their places, and they head right in— not with brute force, but with a plan, and they manage to get away.
Tumblr media
One of my favorite things about Senkuu is, despite how logical he tries to act, he never wants to see anyone die. Even fighting against Tsukasa— his first instinct was to make a negotiation scenario.
Taiju knows his best friend enough to know he’d never do this without some sort of other option. He refuses to believe Senkuu died. That he’s absolutely gone. And he tries to think, think of anything— up until Yuzuriha mentions Senkuu directing Tsukasa’s attention to his neck.
And they figure it out. They read Senkuu’s mind and they figure out exactly what he was thinking and they save him. Even in this desperate situation, they think and find a way, never once giving up on him.
Senkuu wakes up, and he’s proud of them, he trusted them and his gamble paid off— Taiju makes another insight to the petrification, Senkuu trusts Yuzuriha with a certain job. All their small interactions are just completely out of care and trust and the importance they place in one another— and then they make a plan.
Tumblr media
A plan to separate and meet up once again, to work together to take down their enemy and build their own world. (I made a post (spoilers) here that was just me rambling about my feels over that.)
Senkuu trusts them to stay safe. Trusts them to do whatever they have to, to work together and use everything they know to be there when he needs them. And they trust Senkuu to do the same.
“So what’s a few more months or years at this point?”
We’re ten billion percent going to win. And we will see each other again.

DCST random thoughts! (CHAPTER ~160 SPOILERS)
So here’s just a little collection of random things i noticed/thought about while re-reading some of the later dr stone chapters. 160 is in the title, but these all take place over multiple chapters- if you haven’t read past 160 you should be fine, theres nothing too spoilery here. anyways...!
1- The small  scene with the whale during the trip: although it’s not really content there’s a lot you can pull from the one panel- Obviously, everyone’s reactions are pretty justified, Yuzuriha’s could be just because she’s been shown to love all/really care for animals before, but what I’m focusing on here is Ukyo! As we know, he used to work on a submarine or some type of marine force, so it’s entirely possible he developed or already had an interest in marine life! It’d just make sense after spending so much time in the quiet with nothing but you and the sea- I think that’s an adorable part of Ukyo’s character, so I really really hc he gets excited about oceans and ocean animals!
Tumblr media
2- This little flashback moment: does Senku (temporarily) live at Taijuu’s house? Ofc we’ve rarely seen them separated when we get flashbacks of baby Senku, so it would make sense, and after all, where would Senku live while Byakuya’s away at NASA for most of his life? It’s entirely possible Senku could stay afloat living by himself if Byakuya was still paying bills from the U.S, and Senku would probably prefer it that way, but even though he has the knowledge it’s probably not convenient for him to do all the things that come with owning a house, like buying food. The idea of them being housemates along with bffs is really cute tbh  (Also small note, I like to imagine Taijuu’s dad is either really meek similar to bakugos, or is just an older, burlier copy of Taijuu- of course hed take Senku in no problem, and actually probably get along quite well with Byakuya)
Tumblr media
3- I’ll try to keep this short, since I’d love to and probably will go more in depth into it for a separate post, but... Gen is really, really smart, guys. Like it’s been stated before, but Gen and Senku are pretty matched in knowledge, except obv with Senku it’s focused on science and with Gen it’s focused on psychology. I actually had a small theory about the possibility of Gen still being as morally grey as he was when we met him, but like I said, i’ll probably go into that some other time. For now, have these screenshots of examples Gen being an actual genius when it comes to reaction time, memory and critical thinking skills/analysis (that is, immediately catching onto the plan and immediately realizing xeno would most likely know that senku would mention taijuu if he were to basically study under xeno, really helps gen’s case for just being a minor lackey and highlights his relationship with senku <33)

I'm to intimidated by lots of words to read all of your analysis of Dr stone and that stuff but I'm so happy to find another Dr stone blog idk i just feel like the fandom is kinda small (maybe I'm just not looking in the right places) and so seeing people post about it makes me super happy <33
At least on tumblr the dcst fandom does feel significantly smaller than other manga and anime fandoms, so I totally get what you mean. I’ve recently tried branching out into discords to meet new people to share headcanons and ideas with, so hopefully that turns out fruitful. I’m glad you enjoy the blog!
