Ghost Rider #30 (Mckenzie/Perlin, June 1978). One of those crossover ideas I’m shocked hasn’t happened already! Strange probes Blaze’s soul, resulting in a supernatural body swap. Meanwhile a mysterious rider on horseback approaches… Could it be Carter Slade? I’ve been intrigued by the idea of a cowboy Ghost Rider since the Nic Cage movie but the early Slade comics are hard to find!

BHOC: CAPTAIN AMERICA #231
Well, there’s a cover that you probably wouldn’t see today, as we’re all just a little bit more sensitive to this stuff. This issue of CAPTAIN AMERICA, purchased on one of my weekly trips to the 7-11 for new comics, was the start of a six-part epic that I’d wind up really enjoying–even if I didn’t realize it quite yet. I’m going to try not to spoil the storyline ahead of time, as we’ll get to…

Just want to say that, as a huge Jack Russell fan, I LOVED the Werewolf By Night Disney+ special, and could not be more thrilled that the design they used was closer to the original Mike Ploog design rather than the later Bill Sienckwicz model that had been largely used since the 80's! The special fed both the Bronze Age Marvel Horror fan in me AND the Universal Monster Movie fan in me!

BHOC: CAPTAIN AMERICA #229
The next week brought more new comics to my local 7-11 on Thursday, which was delivery day for them back in those days. Among the new offerings was this issue of CAPTAIN AMERICA. The title had stabilized a little bit after a rocky couple of months and was now in the process of pulling the long-running subplot about the Corporation, the underworld syndicate that Jack Kirby had created towards the…
