Aegon V and Duncan the (very) small, plus a lil Betha Blackwood for @lcrdstannis! I imagine Aegon didn’t quite know how to handle the transition of “I’m never getting married” to “I’ve never met a more perfect being” very well

Note
so I've been compiling a list of all the Targaryens whose cause of death we know, and almost all of those missing from the list are women: Septa Rhaella, Daena the Defiant and her sisters, Daenora and her son Maegor, Vaella, Aegon V's sisters Daella and Rhae, Dany's grandmother Shaera and her sister Rhaelle. do you have any theories or worries about how these women may be revealed to have died in F&B 2?
What, me worry about GRRM falling back on death in childbirth in order to get rid of female characters? What, me worry about GRRM showing less interest in female characters compared to their male counterparts? Who could ever have gotten that idea?
(Also I’m assuming you’re only talking about female Targaryens by birth who died post-Fire and Blood Volume 1, because we also don’t know exactly how Visenya died, or Rhaena daughter of Aenys I, or Jaehaerys and Alysanne’s daughter Saera, or if we’re being really technical Aenys’ youngest daughter, Vaella - and that’s not even counting Jaehaerys and Alysanne’s maternal half-sister and later daughter-in-law Jocelyn Baratheon.)
Anyway, yes, I am definitely concerned. My current position is that until and unless we have information guaranteeing that any given female Targaryen did not die in childbirth, I’m mentally preparing myself for news that they died in childbirth. Aegon III’s sisters Baela and/or Rhaena? May have died in childbirth. (I don’t like to think of the implications of killing the former like that in the context of her possibly declining marriage to Alyn and his relationship with Elaena.) Daenora? May have died in childbirth. (Unless she is more like The Accursed Kings’ Clemence of Hungary as the wife of the partial-Louis X-like Aerion Brightflame - I’ll have to think about that in another post.) Maekar’s daughters Daella and/or Rhae? May have died in childbirth. (Although hopefully the former’s possible romance with Dunk will save her.) Egg’s daughter Rhaelle? May have died in childbirth.
And even if childbirth isn’t involved, that doesn’t mean we’ll necessarily get any information on what ultimately happened to these ladies. Given how little GRRM apparently wished to have Dowager Queen Alyssa, crown princess Jocelyn Baratheon, or Princess Alyssa involved in the lives of their royal children, I don’t have a lot of confidence in, say, Queen Shaera lasting long after the accession of Jaehaerys II. Given how little GRRM detailed the lives or ultimate fates of the princess (and would-be heiress)-turned-septa Rhaella and the mentally disabled Princess Gael, I’m not at all confident that GRRM will spend much time on the fate of the princess-turned-septa Rhaena or the mentally disabled would-be heiress Vaella. The lack of any mention of Daena in TWOIAF, especially in connection with her son’s eventual rebellion (remember that she would only have been 51 at the time of the First Blackfyre Rebellion), doesn’t give me a lot of confidence in her surviving long past the birth of Daemon.
(Still hoping that Princess Elaena lives to be 70 and not only gets to be GRRM’s favorite sort of character - the sassy, confident, smart older woman/widow - but specifically sticks up for Egg’s secret marriage for love with Betha Blackwood, using both her own history of marrying for love and her seniority within the royal family. Give me one nice thing, GRRM!)
But hey, GRRM is a great writer! I would love Fire and Blood Volume 2 to tell us a lot more about all of these ladies, and I’m willing to trust that the author has the talent to do just that.

I Seek to Hold the Wind
I don't know where i am going with this.
Like maybe it will be another 70+ chapters of angst sprinkled with happy shit and romance or maybe just a one shot
Pairing: Robb Stark x OC, Aegon VI/Young Griff x oc
Taglist: @arrthurpendragon @ocappreciationtag
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Prologue
The 7th day of the 7th month of the year 300
You are not them.
She repeats the words to herself when Aegon’s smile goes wider at the sight of her.
You are not Jeyne, he is not Robb.
At least in the matter of wealth and connections, she is not Jeyne Westerling whose house was as poor as a sept-mouse even with their rich history.
Jocelyn, despite being a lady to a house sworn to Stark and currently holding the dagger at the back of the new Warden of the North, is the great niece to Anya Waynwood and third cousin to the new lord of the Vale, Harrold Hardyng.
And yet, Jo has no dragons like Daenerys, but the Knights of the Vale are a damn good consolation prize.
She is not a princess like Arianne Martell either, but she has a maidenhead that will make sure their children’s parentage will not be put into question by wagging tongues or even her husband.
Queen Jocelyn even has a nice ring to it and, well, if people think she is beautiful now, they should see her in a crown.
She wears the cloth of gold cloak of House Dustin and the wedding dress she was supposed to wed Robb Stark in had Catelyn Stark not saddled him with a Frey before he eloped with Jeyne Westerling.
A dead king’s castoff, as Tyrion had so eloquently called her at the Sorrows.
Now she is marrying another dead king, well, a dead prince.
Aegon the Unlikely Survivor, Aegon the prince who’s head would have been cracked open like an egg but fortunately his mother’s septa switched him with her own baby without Elia Martell even knowing about it.
Aegon who says he loves her and she believes him so much she agreed to marry him against all logic and reason.
This would have been so much more comedic if mother had chosen to honor Grandmother Betha Ryswell instead of her goodmother when Jo was born.
A good story never tires in its telling, she supposed, even the gods love their stories.
You are not them, the voice in her head reminds her.
He is not Egg, you are not Black Betha.
“Father, Smith, Warrior, Mother, Maiden, Crone, Stranger. I am his, he is mine, until the end of my days.”

Top ASOIAF Romances
These are my top asoiaf romances, meaning the ones I was rooting for and/or found fascinating. Sometimes there’s an overlap of “I find it interesting” and “I was rooting for it”, but not in each case. This is a mix of show and book canon because it turns out that most of the romantic relationships in asoiaf are pretty crappy. If we look beyond the actual novels though, there are quite a few gems.
#1 Renly x Loras
The best OTP in the story, in my opinion. For one, we get lines like, “when the sun has set, no candle can replace it”. That is incredibly touching. It’s a King and his Knight. How can someone not love that? On the show, they depicted the relationship quite well. At first, that is. It was great in Season 2. Let’s leave it at that. I’ve talked about this before, but these boys met when they were quite young. Which means they were friends first and that’s beautiful. The tragedy is so heartbreaking, it’s at The Song of Achilles levels. The two m/m romances are similarly tender and affectionate. It’s an Achilles x Patroclus, Alexander x Hepheastion, romance. The lovers who went to war and only one returned, only for the other to die soon after. (Loras is alive in the books (maybe) but the way things have been on the show, I don’t see good things coming for any of the Tyrells : (
#2 Ned x Catelyn
What’s interesting about this Stark-Tully match is that it was an arranged marriage that turned into genuine love. People tend to complain about romances that are not dramatic enough, and these two could be in that category. If it weren’t for a couple of brilliant pieces of realistic drama in their relationship. Typically it’s contrived and silly whenever people who love each act like morons for the sake of relationship drama, but not in this case. The main reasons for Cat and Ned’s issues are that a) she was supposed to marry Brandon, Ned’s older brother. There’s a chance that Ned thinks Cat had feelings for Brandon, and I think she found him attractive in the way teen girls sometimes find “bad boys” attractive. At the same time, Cat was too smart not to be concerned about Brandon’s “wolfblood” nature. And b) Jon Snow. Their second relationship complication is Ned’s bastard. Specifically, that he refused to send Jon away to be fostered somewhere and chose to raise him along with his trueborn children instead. Cat didn’t so much care that Ned cheated on her (her patriarchy brain said “men have needs” and they were apart for a long time and hadn’t known each other well anyway) but that she had to see the consequence of his infidelity walking around Winterfell. Many people hate Cat for not loving Jon, but this is a world where the legitimacy of children is something people start wars over. She felt Jon’s very existence, and especially that he lived at Winterfell, put her own children at risk. Remember, we know Jon loves Cat’s kids, but when he was little, Cat had no way of knowing what type of person he would grow up to be. She feared he would murder her kids to become Lord Stark, a la Ramsay. Of course, the Ramsay situation hadn’t happened yet, but the Blackfyres had. Cat knew about those wars over succession that happened because of the mere existence of an alternate heir. Combine her history knowledge with the Westerosi prejudice against bastards and her choices make sense. So, even though Cat and Ned are a loving couple whose values and temperament work well together, they had their own share of relationship drama (the stuff people love when it comes to reading romance, apparently).
#3 Oberyn x Ellaria
The epic love between some of our most significant show!Dornish characters. I’d argue that Arianne and Quentyn end up being the more important players in the books. On the show, they went overboard with making sure we understood that Ellaria and Oberyn weren’t straight. Letting us know would have been fine, except they used the brothel to do it. Anyway, GRRM had no brothels for them. Duh. A prince of the realm will not be staying at a brothel when he comes to the capital for the wedding of a king.
Come on, D&D! Ugh. Still, at least Oberyn and Ellaria were presented as the good guys who go up against the Lannisters (while being awesome and having some really good lines) and that was fun. Though the brothel stuff was in poor taste. At least they were both LGBT characters we were meant to root for, originally. They were also POC, so that was nice. (This was in season 4 when Dornish people were caricatured but at least they were still presented as the good, contrasted to the Lannisters’ bad)
Basically, Oberyn and Ellaria get points for being LGBT and non-white characters and they are fun and sexy as well. In the books, the relationship is very sweet. They have quite a few kids together, and, though they’re not monogamous, they are happy together and committed to each other. They clearly love each other after many years, so that is some sorely lacking warmth in the story. Also, they are good parents. While they made Ellaria on the show kind of evil, in the books, she is 100% against revenge. Book!Ellaria doesn’t want anyone else in her family to get hurt.
#4 Egg x Betha
So, we don’t know how these two met, but it’s probably going to happen in one of the upcoming Dunk & Egg stories. The mystery surrounding the D&E characters is rather fun and it extends to the Egg and Betha romance. We know Egg married for love and we know Betha Blackwood was a spirited woman. Ergo, they were in love. That’s very rare for a royal couple. Can’t wait to meet her! She will be awesome. I’m guessing her personality will be like a Stark’s.
#5 Myrcella x Trystane
This is show!canon only, kind of. Myrcella is supposed to marry Trystane in the future, but they are little kids in the books. Still, it is very cute they have a bond. We see that in the Dornish chapters in AFFC. On the show, they are teens, who fell in love despite every obstacle. There are the cultural differences, for one thing. It could have been an issue because the rest of Westeros is racist when it comes to their perception of Dorne. Especially Cersei. BUT Myrcella and Trystane fall in love and it is very sweet. As Doran says, they don’t know how risky it is to have a Lannister and a Martell together. It’s all very Romeo and Juliet, complete with a painful ending. Yes, the Dornish Plot was butchered on the show, but these two kids and Doran were well done. Beautiful and tragic.
#6 Cersei x Jaime
Let’s get it out of the way first: this is a toxic relationship. Everything about it is unhealthy. The fact that they are twins, the fact that she only loves him as a reflection of herself, the fact that they had to kill a king and cause a war for it. But unlike with most toxic romances, the author here actually knows that it is a complete mess. That’s what’s so great about the Lannisters. They are all so dysfunctional we cannot look away.
#7 Jaime x Brienne *
This relationship is not canon by the strictest of definitions. There is no concrete line to confirm that they feel more for each other than friendship. Well, there are plenty of lines that tells us they have feelings for each other, but no one ever quite calls it love. And yet, it is underneath all of their interactions, which is very much the author’s go-to move. He doesn’t like to tell us someone truly loves a person in the story. What he does is present us with evidence pro and con “true love” and we have to weigh the evidence and decide. Btw, I think he would object to the concept of “true love”. I haven’t read/seen him talk about this, but I bet he believes how someone loves depends on personalty and circumstances. I think he would say that it’s possible to love truly but that doesn’t mean the emotion won’t ever go away. That things won’t change. This is especially true for our Lannister and our lady of Tarth. It’s such a slow-burn, and because it’s GRRM, we can smell the tragic ending the moment we realize they have feelings for each other.
#8 Dunk x Rohanne
The ultimate lowborn noble-hearted knight and highborn lady couple. Their bickering and flirting was very sexy in the novella. It’s a twist on Robin and Maid Marion, a story which is a classic for a reason. It’s a no HEA rich-mean-girl-and-boy-from-the-wrong-side-of-the-tracks-with-a-heart-of-gold, which is just the GRRM type of realism we all love to hate. It’s a truthful look at such a love. It was never going to work between our Red Widow and our dearest hedgeknight. Lesson learned; just because it is a novella and not an epic poem, that doesn’t make heartbreak, or love, any less real.
#9 Aegon x Rhaenys x Visenya
The best of all love triangles, tbh. While most love triangles are poorly constructed, people love to read about that trope. Refreshingly, it’s not one girl and two guys this time. It’s Aegon and his two sisters/wives. What’s fascinating is that his relationship was very different with each of them. Also, there must have been a lot of jealousy because whoever had the first son was the mother of the future king, and, as Margaery told us, sons learn from their mothers. The fact that the woman Aegon loved more died so young, resulting in Aegon and Visenya having to put up with each other without her, is amazing angst.
#10 Bloodraven x Shiera Seastar
This is such a power couple. The bastards who were unabashedly themselves. It’s so fun that she kept lovers and refused to marry him just because she wanted to annoy him. There is something sexy about a couple made up of powerful people who are both manipulative.
#11 Naerys x Aemon the Dragonknight *
Naerys x Aemon is not quite canon, but many people in-universe believe that the pious queen cheated on her cruel king-brother-husband with the noble knight who was the royal couple’s brother. Because her husband was so terrible to both of them, I hope they had an epic romance and found solace in each other. This couple is sexy because of the forbidden romance trope, and because being pious and an adulterer is deliciously angsty. It’s Guinevere and Lancelot with incest, which sounds like it would make HBO salivate. On a more serious note, it is just like GRRM to take a trope like “the forbidden lovers” and push it to the extremes of taste. And it works. Every time. (Not every time the show is “shocking” but whenever GRRM wants to re-sensitize the audience to a topic.
* I’m certain everyone’s wondering why the story of Rhaegar and Elia and Lyanna is missing here. Well, it’s not on the list because I’m not certain any of the three was in love with any of the other two. We know Rhaegar was not in love with Elia. He was fond of her, cared about her and loved her as a friend and confidante. It’s speculation, but I really believe Elia wasn’t in love with him either. She was fond of him as he was fond of her. As for Lyanna, she’s a wildcard in the story. Did she run away with Rhaegar or did he kidnap her? I think the show is going the true love route, but I think GRRM will make the situation more complicated than that. I really loathe the annulment and I would bet money that’s all D&D and GRRM never wrote such a stupid thing. Polygamy makes way more sense, people! He’s a Targaryen, after all. The only way I can see myself slightly forgiving D&D for the annulment is if they say the kids are still legitimate. As for Dany and Drogo and Jon and Ygritte, I hate Dany’s marriage to Drogo and don’t care for Jon’s relationship with Ygritte. Drogo was Dany’s rapist. To ship a child with the man who rapes her every night… it would be like shipping Laurent with the Regent in Captive Prince. Abhorrent. Disgusting. Jon x Ygritte is not nearly as bad, but there’s still a consent issue. He starts sleeping with her to prove he gave up being a crow. While I loathe Khal Drogo and cheered when Dany finally killed him, I kinda liked Ygirtte. At certain points, I nearly shipped Jon x Ygritte.
As for Jonerys, I’ll write a piece about them when the season is over. It’s one of my main OTPs, but I want to celebrate them being officially canon by writing about them then.

When they'd been poling down the Greenblood, the orphan girls had made a game of rubbing Egg's shaven head for luck. It made the boy blush redder than a pomegranate. "Girls are so stupid," he would say. "The next one who touches me is going into the river." Dunk had to tell him, "Then I'll be touching you. I'll give you such a clout in the ear you'll be hearing bells for a moon's turn." That only goaded the boy to further insolence. "Better bells than stupid girls," he insisted, but he never threw anyone into the river. (The Sworn Sword)
Egg is adorable. And he’s Dany’s great grandfather, too!

Aegon the Unlikely and Black Betha Blackwood
Prince Aegon did not wish to marry, instead dreaming of becoming a knight of the Kingsguard. Then, while traveling in the riverlands, he met Lady Betha Blackwood. In 220 AC Aegon and Black Betha married for love. In 233 AC they were crowned as Aegon V, the King of the Andals, the Rhoynar, and the First Men, and Queen Betha, the consort of the Seven Kingdoms.

slides into your askbox late because i'm that asshole asking for some aegon x betha.
It is Ser Duncan who catches her eye first. He is so very tall, and Betha isn’t certain she has ever met a man so obstinate about how a knight should be. Her father’s knights certainly do not care so much about their vows, and the Bracken knights are even worse.
She does eventually notice Egg. He’s rather hard to ignore, very brazen for somebody who is only a squire to a hedge knight. Betha takes in his bald head and insolent expression and thinks that inflicting him on the Brackens might do nicely. He does seem so very eager to go, and he can almost out talk Betha.
Almost.
“I should visit Pennytree anyway,” Ser Duncan says, slowly. “On account of Ser Arlan.”
Egg nods eagerly and readies the horses. He doesn’t seem to realise that Betha is still there until she leads her pony out into the yard. He gapes at her and Betha scowls at him, looking away as she puts her foot in the stirrup and swings easily into her saddle.
“You can’t come,” he insists. “There’s fighting, and you’re a girl.”
Betha tosses her head and scowls at him again.
“I’m a Blackwood,” she tells him firmly, “and Pennytree is a Blackwood village.”
Ser Duncan looks between the two of them, frowning, and Betha thinks he’s going to try to stop her so she digs her heels into the sides of her pony before he can try. It’s only a moment before she hears hoof beats behind her, but she’s out the gate by then, and the Blackwood men know better than to stand in her way.
Egg catches up to her a little way down the road and he’s smiling. He almost looks impressed. Betha doesn’t care about impressing him. She only cares about ending the fighting, and if Ser Duncan and Egg can help then she’ll consider them friends, and be glad of their company.

🐲THE TARGARYEN TAG🐲

🐲THE TARGARYEN TAG🐲
For all the Targaryen lovers out there! This tag is open to all, so feel free to participate regardless of allegiance!
                    🐲🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🐲
Tagged by @chillyravenart & @thousandeyesand-one ♥
1. Your favorite/least favorite Targaryen:  Aegon the Unworthy
2. Underrated Targaryen:  The Prince of Dragonflies! His and Jenny's love story is among the most beautiful in the series.
3. Snog/Marry/Avoid Targaryens:  Visenya/Jon Snow/Aegon VI
4. A Targaryen who deserved better:  While there are many horrific accounts of torture I could pull from, I'm going to go Rhaella Targaryen. Just hearing the name "Rhaella" fills me with sadness. Forced to marry her brother despite loving another man - went on to be abused and raped regularly by her husband, so badly that her reproductive system seemed to have taken a hit as a result. It's likely her children were the only thing that brought her joy... and she had to endure so many miscarriages, stillbirths, and early deaths of so many. It just twists my heart all up. 😭
5. OTP Targaryens:  Jon x Dany (of course), Rhaegar x Lyanna, Duncan x Jenny, Alyssa x Baelon, Egg x Betha, Jaehaerys x Alysanne, Rhaella x Bonifer, Daenerys x Daemon Blackfyre... *coughs* >.>
6. A Targaryen you'd like to go on holiday with:  Since Summi already had the perfect answer about Daenerys, I'm going to say Jon. Boy needs a vacation and I'm up to finding us both a place we can enjoy frizz-lessly.
7. A Targaryen you'd want to be best friends with:  Jon Snow. I appreciate his dark humor and I want to cheer him up with a homemade batch of honeycakes.
8. A Targaryen who just needs a hug:  How many more times can I say Jon Snow in this questionnaire? (Consecutively, no less!) Well that answer is one more time, at least, because the first episode was so depressing that I almost didn't come back to the series. My desire to see something good happen for Jon kept me going, and that boy already needed a hug. But imagine how many more he'll need when he finds out who his parents were and all that Ned risked to keep him safe! 😭
9. Problematic Fave:  Daemon Blackfyre... >.>
10. A Targaryen you'd go on a dragon ride with:  Daenerys! There's no more impressive dragonrider to me!
11. Favorite Targaryen bastard?:  Jacaerys Velaryon! (and maaaaybe Alyssa Targaryen? 😏)
12. A Targaryen you'd want as a lover:  Jon, Daenerys, Rhaegar, or Duncan!
13. Which Targaryen dragon is your favorite?:  Aside from the three puppies we watched grow up (Drogon, Rhaegal, and Viserion), I'll go with Vermax, Silverwing, Meleys, and Moondancer (love the name and she's my favorite color). Shout-out to OC dragon Dawnrider 😘
14. Bloodraven: fan or ban?:  I'm... greatly suspicious of his intentions. He's one of those "the end justifies the means" types, and that always perturbs me a little bit.
15. Viserys (son of Aerys II): evil twit or mentally scarred victim?  Hell, I think his father was mentally scarred, too! I have this weird dream headcanon about Viserys - that he'd be the perfect little prince had he grown up with Rhaella and/or Rhaegar. 😕
16. Favorite non-Targaryen spouse/consort?  Jenny of Oldstones! She's got this mystical sort of vibe, doesn't she?
17. Team Lilac Eyes or Team Indigo Eyes?  Indigo!
18. Favorite quote by a Targaryen:  "The next time you raise a hand to me will be the last time you have hands." —Daenerys
19. Most badass Targaryen moment:  I mean... Daenerys bringing dragons back into the world with nothing but intuition and belief in herself? You don't get much more badass than that.
20. Blackfyres: Yay or Nay?  Hmm... I'll quote my favorite non-Targaryen character on this one - "I would say (their) parts are mixed, m'lady. Good and bad."
21. Most touching Targaryen moment:  Jon and Daenerys meeting on Dragonstone!
22. Which Targaryen would give the best life advice?  Maester Aemon!
23. Your favorite Aegon?  Jon Snow - since I'm absolutely willing to bet his name is Aegon in the books, too. Runner up would be Egg, though.
24. Which Targaryen was the most badass?  Since this says was instead of is, I'll have to agree on Visenya Targaryen.
25. Most heartbreaking Targaryen moment:  Princess Rhaenys hiding underneath her father's bed... and everything that followed after she got dragged out from underneath it. 💔

74 with aegon x betha :)))
74. “We can share.”
It’s not exactly roomy, hiding beneath the unused table in the back of the hall, but currently she’d rather be nowhere else. Certainly not amongst the guests, whom she’d only narrowly avoided in her quest to find a hiding place. She’d been a late bloomer, her mother called it, but now that she’s begun to look more woman than girl, so have come the men. Mostly old, gouty ones, too. Her mother and father came up with some excuse, she’s sure, to have this gathering but she knows better. She knows they’re looking to pair her off with someone.
It’s past time, Betha, they say.
You should be wed, Betha, they say.
Stop being so picky, Betha, they say.
So now here she is, hiding, fully aware that it’s very childish and that she really ought to button up her indignation. She does peek beneath the tablecloth every now and then, though, to watch the goings-on. If nothing else, feasts are good for that. She sees a woman stuff some bread down her blouse to save for later; the tallest man she’s ever seen nearly tramples two other guests as he looks around for someone; her father’s cheeks get ruddier and ruddier the more wine he consumes; a group of little girls gossips cheerily.
She’s so engrossed that she doesn’t hear the patter of footsteps, and so when the tablecloth lifts, she lets out a surprised yelp. It’s no one she recognizes, just some boy with a shaved head and dark eyes who looks as surprised to see her as she is to see him.
“Go away,” she hisses.
He doesn’t. Instead, he crawls forward and lets the tablecloth drop so they’re both concealed underneath it. “Why are you hiding?”
“To get away from presumptuous men like you,” she snaps. “Leave me alone.”
“I’m hiding, too,” says the boy. “If I leave, he’ll see me.”
“Who?”
The boy nudges aside the tablecloth and points at the clueless giant she’d spotted earlier. “I’m squiring for him.”
“And you’re hiding from him why?”
“Because it’s fun,” the boy shrugs. He thrusts out his hand and says, “I’m Egg. Who are you?”
“Egg?” she snickers. “What kind of name is Egg?”
“Mine,” he says, offended. “Well, it’s short for something but I can’t tell you what.”
“How roguish of you.”
“What’s your name? I told you mine.”
“I didn’t ask for yours.” He gives her a petulant look and she rolls her eyes. “Betha. My name is Betha.”
“If I promise not to talk, can I stay, Betha?” he asks.
She looks him up and down, from his stupid shaved head to his leather boots. She doesn’t particularly want to have this Egg here, but then again, if her mother asks she could say she met a boy and it wouldn’t be a lie.
“Very well,” she consents. “You can stay.”

I’m the anon that asked for the Egg x Betha fic, I just wanted to thank you!! You really lifted up my mood. I didn’t thought you would actually do it, i just thought it was worth a try. Just wanted to say you’re one of my favorite asoiaf bloggers and fic writers and that I love this paring (and I am surprised more people don’t, it’s so sweet) and this act of kindness means the world to me. Thanks again and I hope you never have a bad week ever again in your life
awww i’m glad you liked it and i’m glad it lifted your mood!  it lifted mine too, so thank you for sending the prompt in, even if i don’t take anon prompts.  it’s such a top notch pairing and if i could think of a good plot i’d try and write a full-length thing about them but i suck at plot sometimes

So... Targaryen traits are dominant or not? Because when a Targ woman married a non-Targ man the firstborn will be always look like the father and then the rest of the children will have a Targ look. The same thing happens if a Targ man married a non-Targ woman: the firstborn’s traits will be the ones of the non-Targ parent. What do you think about the genetics in House Targaryen?❤️🖤
Well Targ genes tend to be recessive when it comes to the firstborn in most Targ x Non-Targ pairings but later children seem to inherit Targ traits. The first instance was obviously Aemon xJocelyn (dark-haired) = Rhaenys (dark-haired) but then Daella married Rodrick Arryn and their daughter Aemma was presumably Targ featured. And Alicent's children were all silver-haired/purple-eyed (she clearly didn't top Viserys... or anything else for that matter lmao). Rhaena of Pentos married Garmund Hightower and had 6 daughters, I'm ready to bet that's where House Hightower got its silver-haired streak from. Other instances include Aegon IV x Barba = Aegor, Daeron II x Myriah = Baelor, Maekar x Dyanna = Daeron, Egg x Betha = Duncan, Rhaegar x Elia = Rhaenys, Rhaegar x Lyanna = Jon. I'm sure someone has a proper genetically analytical post on this but I stand by my theory here lol.

It just occurred to me that Jonerys is basically a gender-swapped version of Aegon V “Egg” x “Black Betha” Blackwood.
Is this why I ship Egg x Betha? Because they remind me of Jon X Dany? (Nan, probably not, Egg is a cinnamon roll regardless.)
Still, though. Jon ‘took the black”/is a “Black Brother” and a “crow” (and the Blackwood castle is coincidentally named Raventree Hall). Jon and Betha are both worshippers of the old gods. They’re both headstrong. (TWOIAF describes Black Betha as “spirited” and “willful”)
Dany, like Egg, is a struggling reformer who lived among the smallfolk during her childhood (though not so much by choice, unlike Egg) and who tried - and succeeded, unlike poor Egg - at hatching dragons.
One might also wonder if Martin isn’t deliberately setting up Summerhall and Winterfell as foils, somehow.
As the DVD cover of Tristan and Isolde say, “Before Romeo and Juliet there was...”
Before Jonerys there was Egg x Betha :p
