Summary: Their high school friendship ended abruptly, but a chance encounter just might bring Wei Ying and Lan Zhan back together again.
Kay's comments: Lan Zhan workes as a naturalist at the local nature center where Wei Ying takes his son Wen Yuan. After a scandal in high school that led to Wei Ying getting disowned they lost contact and both Wei Ying and Lan Zhan are each other's "the one that got away" in a way, so there's a lot of yearning for what could have been and mutual pining as they slowly reconnect. Very soft story with touches of angst especially revolving around Wei Ying being Wen Yuan's presumed biological father and him living together with Wen Qing (and others). I really enjoyed this story and the twist at the ending was very cool!
Excerpt: Lan Zhan loves his work, caring for this preserve and the creatures who live here. When his mother was alive this was one of her favorite places to take him and his brother on the weekends they stayed with her. His cottage was hers, left to him in her will. He loves the quiet of it, the gentle welcome home after a day of having to talk to people, the one part of his job he doesn’t enjoy. He’s fine with his role of educator, but he knows his banter needs work. Mostly he just smiles, which seems to work OK. His uncle thinks he could “do more” with his life. His brother is glad he’s happy. And he is, mostly. A little lonely, but happy. He tries not to dwell on what might have been.

Summary: On a remote island off the coast of Japan, a woman confronts an unusual dog that may have been part of her past.
An AU (sort of) set in modern Japan; a writer (Rin) is offered the job of watching over an island home, her only human interaction is the supply plane. Figuring a quiet winter alone would do a world of good to catch up on work (and work on herself) she jumps at the opportunity. While exploring the island one day she meets (er is mildly attacked by) a snowy white dog, who is obviously much more intelligent than he should be.

“I d-don’t know w-why you thought this was good idea.”
A gruff snort is your response, and you can do nothing more than bury your wind-chapped face into the back of his heavy coat, your arms around his waist as the horse beneath you struggles through the snowdrift. The scarf wrapped around your head barely takes the edge off the biting chill.
Follow up on a lead about some abandoned riches in the mountains, it couldn’t still be snowing up there, he said. So goddamn sure of himself.
“Th-this is de-decidedly the m-most unromantic t-thing ever, Arthur M-Morgan.” Your muffled voice cracks against the fabric of his coat.
“Alrigh’, alright. Arthur huffs, his breath visible in the cold air, “There’s a place round the other side of the lake we can get outta the wind.”
An icy gust blows across the frozen Barrow Lagoon and you squeal miserably as you tuck yourself in behind Arthur once again. He curses as he leads the horse over to that abandoned cabin.
The mare slogs around the lagoon’s shoreline, finally reaching the cabin as Arthur extends his arm to help you slide off from her rump. He follows, landing heavily in the snow. You slowly make your way into the cabin as Arthur leads his horse to a covered area on the side of the small abode.
By the time he has the horse settled, you’ve started a small fire in the cast iron stove, long abandoned. You stand in front of it, rubbing your hands furiously.
“I’m so c-cold…” you whine, your voice cracking as you huddle into yourself. This abandoned cabin on the lake’s shore did little to stave off the cold outside.
He shrugs the coat off and wraps it around your shoulders; it dwarves you as you frown, looking up at him.
“Arthur -“ You scold, trying to bat off the coat.
He frowns, “C’mon, sweetheart. You ain’t got enough meat on your bones to keep warm, ‘m fine.”
You succeed in pulling the coat off, and shove it back at his chest. Before he can respond, you point toward the floor a few feet away from the stove he had gotten lit. “Sit down. We can share the coat.”
Arthur grumbles under his breath, but acquiesces. He grunts as he lowers himself to the floor, crossing his legs as he pulls the heavy coat around his shoulders, holding it open for you to crawl into his lap.
“Well, ain’t we sharin?”
You nod, taking the two steps closer to him, but to his surprise, you don’t turn to sit in his lap with your back toward him. In one fluid motion, you hitch your skirt up and spread your legs on either side of him before lowering yourself down, facing him.
You situate yourself, your legs winding around his hips, your chests pressed together, your skirts parted around him. It takes him a flustered moment to settle his hands at your waist, looking up at you with a blush blazed across his cheekbones. You give him a sly smile back as you wind your arms around his neck, sitting fully in his lap, a head above him as you settle down.
His eyes blaze even wider as you roll your core against his rapidly filling cock. Before he can say anything, you press your lips hard against his, his hat falling down the floor. It takes him several surprised seconds before he returns the kiss and tightens his grip around you.
You cannot help but to grind yourself against him, and his hands move down your back to cup your rear, holding you tighter into his embrace. It seems that he has finally gained his confidence as he squeezes the globes of your rear hard.

Arthur gets your drift immediately, leaning backward and unbuttoning his pants and union suit as you lean up on to your knees above his lap. You grasp at your bloomers, pulling one leg open as Arthur draws his hard cock out from where he had unbuttoned his clothing. One of his hands reaches to your hip to brace you, as one of your hands rests on his shoulder to do the same.
He grasps the base of his cock as you hold your bloomers to the side, and you slowly lower down onto him, sucking in a breath as the hard column of his flesh pierces you - stretches you. After a few moments, you are able to take him fully, and the backs of your thighs rest in his lap.

For all the time his strength and size had been used for you - protecting you, providing for you, keeping you warm - you cannot help to smile as you note the tenseness of his jaw subside. You can give him this.
Wound so tightly between each other, you press your lips against his before playfully clenching the muscles of your core. Arthur’s eyes shoot open and he cannot stifle the groan that escapes from his chest, deep and low.
“D-do that again.” He pants, nuzzling his cheek against yours, his arms pulling you against him tighter.
He squirms against you, his hips bucking up a little as you clench against him. He draws his arms around you tighter - you're smothered in him - and groans aloud as he buries his face into your bosom.
“God, darlin’, you’re so warm-”
You tighten your legs around him, pressing your face into the curve of his shoulder. He jolts against you as you clench down on him again.
“Could you come like this?” You breathe into his ear.

Overwhelmed by it all, you tuck your head into his shoulder as he pants against your collarbone. You whine softly as you come also, a soft, gentle tipping over the edge, shuddering around him for a moment. The two of you come down from your highs, wrapped tightly around each other.
Arthur pulls that blue coat tighter around the both of you - and as the snow falls outside, you are warm and content in each other’s embrace.

now im NOT an artist, and there were also no good reference photos of truck interiors for me to be able to use for the second position they're in, so i'll just try describing it in detail. joel pushes her forward onto the center console between the two front seats. he holds her knees with the inside of his elbows and gets on his knees, so reader is holding the front of her body up and he's holding her legs up. she's essentially suspended in the air between the console and the backseat. at some point, he pulls her right leg over the right passenger seat. they're folding like origami here.

Boy, You’ve Been A Naughty Girl by obstinatrix
Probably my favorite mclennon fic of all time. Paul dresses up in ladies clothes and lingerie so that it’s not gay when John fucks him. Incomparable. They’re both so dense in this but there’s so much love there. A healthy dash of angst makes this a full meal of a fic. I’ve reread it a dozen times at least!

If you haven’t read this, where have you been?! I may be biased because I was the one who submitted the kinkmeme prompt, but this is SO fun and hot. The characters are great, and I find myself smiling the whole way through when I read it! My fav part may be the breakfast scene with Jim mwahahahhaa.
I Gave Her My Heart (But She Wanted My Soul) by muzaktomyears
Pure filth. The hottest smut this side of the Mersey. It says it’s incomplete, but it definitely doesn’t feel that way! Also, it is a sequel to a super fun Paris blowjob fic, so cheers all around! There are also interesting dynamics of sexuality and consent that really drive it! Don’t worry though- they’re both super into each other. It’s J/P. They couldn’t not be.

Yes, it’s a Christmas fic. No, you shouldn’t wait until next Christmas if you haven’t read it yet! Very, very sweet. John somehow manages to fight his way through a McCartney family Christmas party! Duets are sung, cigarettes are smoked, boys are in love.

The whole lifting latches series is incredible, of course! A classic for a reason. I’m sure others have more eloquently recced this. All I have to say is that clothes sharing is my Achilles heel!

Heard is one of the founding members of Duck Prints Press and has been a part of our planning team since before our official inception, offering her advice and expertise to the Press since mid-2019, and she’s been an editor on our anthologies Add Magic to Taste, And Seek (Not) to Alter Me, He Bears the Cape of Stars, She Wears the Midnight Crown, and Aim For The Heart. She’s also a prolific author of stories of all lengths and in all genres, and one of the most active authors involved with the Press.

Author Biography: Ashley, pen name A. L. Heard, fandom name jhoom, is a 35-year-old teacher, writer, and mother of two little boys. She’s been writing fanworks since she discovered fanfiction.net back in her middle school days; the platform has changed and the writing’s improved, but Ashley ultimately still spends her free time writing about characters she adores in worlds she’d like to explore. Her first novel, Hockey Bois, was published in 2021. In between writing projects, she works as a language teacher in the Pittsburgh area, plays hockey, and plays trains with her sons.

How did you pick the name you create under?
It’s a combination of my [real life] name and family names, making it unique but also still connected to me.

When and why did you begin creating?
I started writing fic during middle school and went through phases where I’d write fic and original work and then long periods with no writing. I’m happy to be settled into writing on a regular basis 🙂

What’s your favorite part of the creation process?
The brainstorming and playing around with a new story and characters, where everything is still possible and I haven’t had to commit to any particular plot point.

Describe your ideal creation space.
An office that’s well lit with an endless supply of tea or coffee or snacks, with no distractions or extra noises except birds. Either that or a brewery or cafe with background noise.

What are your favorite snacks and/or drinks to consume while creating?
Tea, coffee, and baked goods (cookies, scones, that sort of thing)

What’s one thing (style, genre, etc.) that you think you’ll never do, and why not?
Epic fantasy – they’re awesome stories but I don’t have the creativity/brain for a large scale world and magic system like that.
