Core Development Toastmasters Open House!
Hello everyone!
I mentioned in my 2022 blog post that I am a Toastmaster! What does that mean exactly? Well, back in 2021 I joined this club, Core Development, as a club coach to help the club not only improve as a club, but also to help motivate its members to continue to learn important public speaking and leadership skills as well! I was already a Toastmaster for a year before that and I had joined to learn how to communicate better, build up my self-confidence, and meet new friends. Since then, I have developed all of these things and more!
In fact, for this particular meeting, I will be leading and chairing the entire event! We are all sharing how much Toastmasters can help you develop more confidence, make new friends, feel comfortable speaking in front of others, and so so much more.
If you want to be able to speak to others more effectively and feel more confident in yourself, this is the perfect opportunity to come on by and see how we can help you. We all started off anxious, scared, confused, and lonely...now we like to share extravagant stories, laugh with each other, and support each other with these goals and more.
Come learn from our little community and feel better with your self-confidence, communication skills, and more!

I think it's interesting that, in Chinese, to be gregarious/sociable is 合群, which literally translate to "blending in" or "agreeing with the herd".
At one point, my mom told me "你不合群", "you don't fit in" and I was like "I guess?" Cause it's like. I'm not actually a rebel, I just don't make fitting in one of my priorities in life. If I do I do and if I don't then why bother.
But Mom was like "That's not so good, we live in a society." And I think that's her growing up in communist China trauma talking, cause Mom is one of the few people who deliberately strives to be "normal" and I was like "mom that's not actually a normal thing to do..." And it's not like I am actively being anti-social.
But I have realized, as I age, that this lessaiz fair attitude towards fitting in does end up creating a disconnect between me and my peers.
I thought being a rebel is an archetype, you know? Like... Sticking out deliberately, or being punk-rock, being loud. And none of that was me, who wore buttoned up shirts back when most of my peers wore t-shirt and jeans.
I've been reading 11/22/63, where the MC travels back in time to 50s Texas, and gets asked "are you a subversive" by the principal when he taught the kids Catcher in the Rye. He's from 2011. He spends a good amount of conscious effort fitting in, it was just hard for him not to be considered subversive by others when he say things like that.
And then I went and gave a speech at Toastmasters on the value of filler words, and my fellow Toastmasters tell me "You always have such bold views and you're not afraid to speak your thoughts". And my views aren't bold to me, cause they're just my views. It doesn't take any courage for me to say them, because I grew up with a sense of safety. And I like sharing these views aloud cause I think bringing in fresh perspective brings more value to the conversation than echoing popular sentiment.
And I am instantly reminded of my mom telling me "you don't fit in" and the principal in the book cautiously asking "are you a subversive?" And I realized... Woah... That's how my coworkers see me! They think I'm a rebel. That's wild! Lil old me!
It's really funny to think there will always be people who see me as a "subversive", no matter how soft spoken I am and no matter how tolerant they are. It's funny how that work. I don't need to try to stand out if I don't make enough effort to "fit in".

The BIGGEST regret of my life
This is going to be one of my MOST important writing on
Medium. Here’s why:
They said wisdom only comes with age. Can’t be true anymore. If only I could rewind time, this is what I would say to my younger self:
Choose your friends wisely. Your circle is a direct representation of your future. Your friends directly influence every area of your life consciously and unconsciously as well.
Place yourself in the right environment. If you want to thrive and if you want to grow into the best version of your life. Look around you right now, is the environment making or breaking you?
If you’re still in your school or university realm, please join communication clubs such as Toastmasters or etc. I know there are tons of organizations out there with specialized niche but here’s what I am about to say:
“If you know how to present yourself through the way you speak, you are about to win BIG in life. Really big.”
Take care of yourself. Put yourself first. Look after your overall being. If you brush and polish yourself daily, trust me one day you’re going to be the brightest star in the sky. Invest in personal development from the very young.
“The greatest and safest investment in this entire Universe is always going to be you. Invest in yourself and you shall receive the highest return ever.”
If you can apply these 3 key wisdoms into your life trust me you are about to bypass or even reach to your destination within the shortest run.
Comment on what’s one advise you would give to your younger self?
Yours, Asrajjit Kaur

Reflections of 2022, and Things I'm Looking Forward to in 2023
This year has been rough. I accomplished a lot though. I’m grateful for its lessons. I’m 2023, I want to be better. I don’t want to spend forever on social media. I want to prioritize the things I care about. I want peace in my life. I want to be more fearless. I became more independent and confident as an engineer.
This year, I:

ended up in the emergency room, but I got myself there; all by the grace of God, of course.
made a confirmed new friend
resumed therapy
left a company that made me feel uncomfortable; yes, I got let go, but I was doing well before that
learned how to be more independent with my work
started body building
started juicing
started blogging again
started collecting ad revenue on a website that I created
was a facilitator in my professional black engineering group and my group liked me in that role
created a space I loved
lived alone again for a year
caught and fought covid
visited NY, New Orleans, and LA
started going to my old church again
finished my hot yoga classes
got over some failed relationship in my mind that weren’t serving me
filed for unemployment and utilities discount for the 1st time
I want to just be better and keep growing. Here’s to 2023. Next year, I want to:
Get hired at T4 or T5 SWE position at my top choice company
Get a $180k+ base salary
Start dating a guy a like and who likes me
Move to a 1 bedroom in Manhattan or Brooklyn, New York
Master all the tech topics I want to before June 2023

Title: Embracing the Power of Community: How Joining a Supportive Network Enhances Your Public Speaking Journey
Introduction: Embarking on a journey of public speaking is an exhilarating adventure filled with challenges, growth opportunities, and moments of self-discovery. However, one of the most rewarding aspects of this journey is the opportunity to join a supportive community of learners and mentors. Whether you're a novice speaker or seasoned presenter, the support and camaraderie of fellow enthusiasts can make all the difference in your development and success. In this article, we'll explore the transformative power of community in the realm of public speaking and how joining such networks can enrich your journey.
Building Connections and Camaraderie:
One of the primary benefits of joining a supportive community of learners is the opportunity to build connections and camaraderie with like-minded individuals who share your passion for public speaking. Whether you're attending Toastmasters meetings, participating in public speaking workshops, or engaging in online forums, you'll find a diverse group of individuals united by a common goal: to improve their speaking skills and grow personally and professionally.
Exchanging Feedback and Insights:
Within a supportive community of learners, feedback is invaluable. By sharing your speeches, presentations, and practice sessions with fellow members, you'll receive constructive criticism, valuable insights, and encouragement to help you improve and refine your speaking skills. Likewise, offering feedback to others allows you to hone your observational skills, deepen your understanding of effective communication techniques, and contribute to the growth and development of your peers.
Learning from Mentors and Role Models:
Another advantage of joining a supportive community of learners is the opportunity to learn from experienced mentors and role models who can provide guidance, wisdom, and inspiration along your journey. Whether it's seasoned Toastmasters members, professional speakers, or industry experts, having access to mentors who have walked the path before you can offer invaluable advice, perspective, and encouragement to help you navigate challenges and achieve your goals.
Fostering Accountability and Motivation:
Being part of a supportive community of learners provides a built-in system of accountability and motivation to help you stay focused and committed to your goals. Whether it's setting speaking milestones, participating in speech contests, or working towards achieving educational awards, the encouragement and support of your peers can inspire you to push beyond your comfort zone, challenge yourself, and strive for continuous improvement.
Celebrating Successes and Milestones:
In a supportive community of learners, every success, no matter how small, is worth celebrating. Whether it's delivering your first speech, overcoming stage fright, or achieving a personal speaking milestone, your fellow members will be there to cheer you on, celebrate your achievements, and remind you of how far you've come on your journey. These moments of celebration not only boost your confidence and morale but also reinforce the sense of camaraderie and shared accomplishment within the community.
Embracing Diversity and Inclusion:
One of the greatest strengths of a supportive community of learners is its diversity. In such communities, you'll encounter individuals from different backgrounds, cultures, and perspectives, each bringing their unique experiences, insights, and talents to the table. Embracing diversity and inclusion fosters a rich learning environment where everyone has the opportunity to learn from one another, broaden their horizons, and cultivate empathy, respect, and understanding for others.
Conclusion:
Joining a supportive community of learners is a transformative experience that can profoundly impact your journey of public speaking. By building connections, exchanging feedback, learning from mentors, fostering accountability, celebrating successes, and embracing diversity, you'll not only enhance your speaking skills but also grow personally and professionally in ways you never imagined. So, whether you're a novice speaker or seasoned presenter, don't underestimate the power of community in propelling you towards greater confidence, competence, and fulfillment on your public speaking journey.

As a techie entrepreneur, it's good stuff to listen to. Here's something for me to listen to as if the guys in college actually listened to me.
Then again, engineers & execs at tech expos did listen to me. Okay a third of them were only entranced by my voice. It's one of those things I can't change unless I'm sick.
Alright there's part of the reason I wanted to become a Toastmaster. If you want, try becoming a Toastmaster in college. Public speaking is a fab skill to pick up.
Having a podcast was a goal of mine I don't believe I'm able to do with all the family interruptions. They're not understanding the BT and my speaking to people not there. Oh I don't have anything to edit the audio. That's right I'm only posting using my mobile devices.

“Self Love for Teen Girls” by The Mentor Bucket (C) 2023
You can go thru an identity crisis anytime from “adolescence” through adulthood. That’s what it says.
I wonder if it only happened one time, technically, or “in full.” If it can happen other times, I wonder if it’s like goo blowing up from “a hole in the ground.” I did the MBTI and I got INFP so many times. I wanted to be an ESFP. I think I’m an ENFP.
My dad seemed to have a lot of them. As a baby, he clung to his mom. Then his mom helped him be Dutch. The next thing I know is he tried to go to college and flunked medical school and did well in English as a psychology major and was invited to Germany. He did lots of stuff like truck driving, oh hi school, friends band, photographer, owning a ballroom in Pennsylvania with my mom later, jail guard; then he wanted to be a business dad and wouldn’t even go to the gym later, though he was in the same martial arts competition as maybe Jackie Chan? He was a martial arts teacher. He was different in different times when I was growing up. He was a ToastMaster. That sums up a lot of his work life and stuff.
My mom was pretty consistent as a Dutch Chinese-Indonesian. I think she struggled with what kind of artistic sport she wanted. She ended her life as a fitness instructor in more gentle workout and a tai chi champion. I was kind of surprised she liked being Asian. I didn’t grow up with the internet, but, whenever someone of mixed race or whatever comes along, I get segregated.
I already figured people are hoping I die. Then they’ll change. Funny people don’t really want me to die yet and want me to suffer indefinitely. I wish people would let me live my life and stop worrying about it. They spent too much time messing it up. And they don’t want to hear me say their problems they give some like I’m just yapping. I guess they’re just racist and won’t post their race. If I tell them my race, they look at me funny of course, but they make up other reasons like they don’t want to talk to me. They didn’t respond to me online either like even before kinda if I was on.

~Introducing Me~
Hi! Welcome to my new blog where I, Violet, aka Dragyn, will be taking some time to reflect on the smallest of things to the largest of things going on in my life and if you read these things? Thanks!
If not, well, thanks for at least noticing the blog!
About me:
I am a 28 year old professional hustler in the sense that I currently work three jobs of varying degrees. The main job I currently have is a Substitute Teacher with my local public school board. I also teach inclusive D&D classes on a platform called Outschool. Lastly, I am a Coaching Coordinator and Public Speaking Coach with a start up company called TalkMaze where I teach youth how to be more confident in regards to their communication skills through speeches, debate, and more, while also refining the curriculum the company uses to ensure we are, in fact, building confidence in our students. It's a lot right? But I love it.
I mentioned D&D right? Well I love it as one of my hobbies. Having been introduced the game virtually back in 2017, having been a Dungeon Master since 2019, and now teaching/playing/running multiple games, it is a huge part of my life. I do not know where my life would be without this amazing game.
I also identify as both demisexual and pansexual! I've become much more involved in the 2SLBTQIA+ community since coming out and I try to keep all of my spaces and roles as inclusive as possible- still learning so much every day and enjoy seeing people being truly, authentically themselves, which is something I need to keep learning myself.
I am also a part of Toastmasters! During my time as a Toastmaster I've become much more open and communicative, being able to share my vulnerabilities, passions, and also communicating these things effectively has been a mind opening experience. I feel much more confident with every piece of feedback received on my speeches, projects, and why yes, even my own writing.
All of these things make me, me. I am a hustling, busy, young professional trying to find her voice, continue to grow, and I look forward to sharing more of these aspects of myself with you all as this blog gets launched!

Overcoming Stage Fright: Techniques To Boost Your Confidence In Public Speaking
Tumblr media
Public speaking is a powerful skill that can open doors to numerous opportunities in both personal and professional spheres. However, for many individuals, the fear of speaking in front of an audience, commonly known as stage fright, can be overwhelming and hinder their progress. The good news is that stage fright is a common experience, and with the right techniques and strategies, it can be overcome. In this blog post, we will explore effective techniques to boost your confidence in Public Speaking Institute in Delhi NCR can help you overcome stage fright.
1. Prepare Thoroughly
Thorough preparation is widely recognized as one of the most powerful strategies to overcome stage fright. By acquainting yourself with the topic of your speech and developing a strong grasp of the subject matter, you can significantly boost your confidence. It is crucial to create an outline or script that serves as a roadmap for your presentation and to practice it multiple times. The greater your level of preparedness, the more self-assured you will be when addressing an audience.
2. Visualize Success
Utilizing visualization can be a potent technique to conquer stage fright. Take a moment to close your eyes and envision yourself giving a flawless presentation. Imagine the audience responding positively, your poised body language, and the exhilarating sensation of achievement. Through consistent visualization of success, you can reprogram your brain to associate public speaking with favorable outcomes, ultimately diminishing anxiety and enhancing self-assurance.
3. Start Small
If speaking in front of a large audience overwhelms you, start speaking in smaller, more intimate settings. Join a local Toastmasters club or seek opportunities to present in front of a supportive group of friends or colleagues. As you grow more at ease, gradually expand the size of your audience. This incremental approach allows you to build your confidence step by step, giving you the courage to tackle more extensive speaking engagements.
4. Practice Deep Breathing And Relaxation Techniques
Utilizing deep breathing exercises and relaxation techniques has been found to be effective in soothing nervousness prior to delivering a presentation. When you feel anxious, take a few moments to focus on your breathing. Inhale deeply through your nose, hold your breath for a few seconds, and then exhale slowly through your mouth. This simple technique triggers the body's relaxation response and can help reduce anxiety levels.
5. Embrace Positive Self-Talk
Replace negative self-talk with positive affirmations. Remind yourself of your strengths, skills, and past successes in public speaking. Repeat affirmations such as, "I am confident," "I am well-prepared," and "I have valuable insights to share." By consciously reframing your thoughts in a positive light, you can boost your self-confidence and diminish stage fright.
6. Engage With The Audience
Instead of viewing the audience as a threat, shift your mindset to see them as allies. Always bear in mind that they are present to actively listen to you and gain valuable insights from your expertise. Make eye contact with individuals in the audience, smile, and use inclusive language to create a sense of connection. Engaging with the audience helps you establish rapport and distracts you from focusing solely on your anxiety.
7. Seek Feedback And Learn From Each Experience
After each public speaking engagement, seek feedback from trusted individuals who observed your presentation. Constructive criticism is an invaluable source of insights that can help identify areas for improvement. Your response could be improved by providing more specific examples to support your points. By continuously learning and growing from each experience, you will become a more confident and effective public speaker.
Conclusion
Stage fright is a common fear that can be overcome with consistent effort and the right techniques. Public speaking is a skill that can be honed and improved through dedicated practice and time. By preparing thoroughly, visualizing success, starting small, practicing relaxation techniques, embracing positive self-talk, engaging with the audience, and seeking feedback, you can boost your confidence and overcome stage fright. With determination and practice, you will become a compelling and confident public speaker, opening doors to a world of exciting opportunities.
The Leaders Club of India is an Institute in Delhi NCR that can provide valuable support and resources to help you overcome stage fright. Joining a club like the Leaders Club of India offers you the opportunity to connect with like-minded individuals who share similar goals and experiences. Through networking events, workshops, and mentorship programs, you can gain insights from seasoned speakers and learn from their expertise.
The Leaders Club of India can provide a safe and encouraging space to practice your public speaking skills. You can participate in mock presentations, receive constructive feedback, and grow in a supportive environment. Additionally, the club may organize speaking opportunities, enabling you to showcase your abilities and gain valuable exposure.

The Power of Motivational Speakers: Inspiring Transformation and Success
Introduction
Motivation plays a crucial role in our personal and professional lives. It's that driving force that propels us to take action, overcome challenges, and achieve our goals. While self-motivation is essential, sometimes we need an external spark to ignite our inner fire. This is where motivational speakers step in. They have the power to captivate audiences, inspire change, and instil a renewed sense of purpose. In this blog, we will explore the remarkable impact of motivational speakers, backed by compelling statistics and facts.
Tumblr media
The Rise of Motivational Speaking
Motivational speaking has gained tremendous popularity in recent years. The demand for these charismatic and influential individuals who can deliver captivating speeches and inspire transformation has skyrocketed. Here are some fascinating statistics:
According to a survey conducted by Grand View Research, the global motivational speaking market size was valued at over $30 billion in 2020, and it is projected to grow at a CAGR of 4.9% from 2021 to 20281.
The same study revealed that the increasing need for personal and professional development, coupled with the rising importance of employee engagement, has been a significant driver for the growth of the motivational speaking industry.
Organizations are recognizing the value of investing in motivational speakers. A study by the Incentive Research Foundation found that 76% of organizations believe that motivational speakers improve employee morale and engagement2.
In another survey conducted by Toastmasters International, 70% of respondents stated that listening to a motivational speaker positively influenced their attitude and mindset3.
The Impact of Motivational Speakers
Motivational speakers have a profound effect on individuals, teams, and organizations. They inspire and empower people to reach their full potential. Let's explore some compelling facts:
Improved Productivity:
A study by the University of Wolverhampton found that motivational speakers can significantly improve employee productivity. Participants in the study reported a 20% increase in productivity levels after attending a motivational speech4.
Motivated individuals are more focused, determined, and goal-oriented, leading to enhanced performance and achievement.
Enhanced Well-being:
Motivational speakers not only inspire professional success but also foster personal growth and well-being. Their messages of resilience, self-belief, and positivity can have a profound impact on mental health and overall happiness.
A survey conducted by Happify revealed that individuals who regularly seek motivation from external sources, such as motivational speakers, experience higher levels of life satisfaction and happiness5.
Strengthened Team Dynamics:
Motivational speakers can create a sense of unity and purpose within teams. By addressing common challenges, instilling a shared vision, and promoting collaboration, they help build stronger team dynamics.
A study published in the Journal of Leadership Education showed that teams exposed to motivational speakers exhibited increased cohesion, cooperation, and communication among team members[^6^].
Overcoming Adversity:
Motivational speakers often share their personal stories of triumph over adversity, serving as living proof that challenges can be overcome. These stories provide hope, inspiration, and valuable lessons to individuals who may be facing their own struggles.
Hearing about someone who has overcome obstacles and achieved success despite difficult circumstances can instil a sense of resilience and motivate individuals to persevere.
The Role of Motivational Speakers in Education
Motivational speakers have a significant impact in educational settings as well. They can motivate students to pursue their dreams, stay focused on their studies, and develop a growth mindset. Consider the following:
Academic Achievement:
Research conducted by the National Bureau of Economic Research found that exposure to motivational speakers positively affects students' academic performance. The study showed that students who attended motivational speeches experienced higher test scores and increased graduation rates.
Motivational speakers provide students with the inspiration and encouragement needed to overcome academic challenges and strive for excellence.
Increased Engagement:
According to a survey conducted by the National School Boards Association, 89% of teachers believe that motivational speakers increase student engagement and participation in classroom activities.
By delivering dynamic and relatable speeches, motivational speakers capture students' attention and create an environment conducive to active learning.
Conclusion
Motivational speakers have become powerful catalysts for personal and professional growth. Their ability to captivate audiences, inspire change, and provide practical strategies for success has made them highly sought after in various domains. The statistics and facts discussed in this blog highlight the immense impact motivational speakers have on individuals, teams, organizations, and educational institutions. Talk With Eric
I just had a chat to Eric about my interest in taking up the secretary role. In the end, it turned out that there was somebody already filling that role and that the conversation turned out to be more about me and my growth.
What surprised me was Eric's sharp observant ability. He cut straight to the truth about a few issues of mine.
My social ability
Personal hygiene
In the end, it wasn't so much about being an officer that could help me grow. I originally envisioned it to be something that could get me closer to the core members of the club and work together as a team. And through that, learn and grow in leadership. But I guess I always had greater priorities (bullet pointed) unmet.
Yeah and who knows, maybe a third point to add to that list could just be more important than I make it to be.
Public speaking ability
Oh, and Eric offered to help out by being my mentor/personal coach and can do so on the basis of every now and then as a voluntary thing.
So all being said, I think Toastmasters is still a good place for me to see growth in my social ability and public speaking ability.
May God guide me. Amen!

How to address your Strengths and Weaknesses in your MBA Application
Addressing your strengths and weaknesses in your MBA application is crucial in showcasing your potential as a candidate. It not only gives the admissions committee a clearer picture of who you are as a person but also helps you identify areas where you can improve and grow.
When discussing your strengths, it's important to highlight your achievements and accomplishments, but also to provide specific examples that demonstrate your skills and abilities. For example, if you're discussing your leadership skills, don't just state that you're a great leader, but provide examples of times when you've successfully led a team to achieve a common goal.
Additionally, it's important to relate your strengths to the MBA application you're applying for. Take the time to research the program and identify the specific skills and traits they value in their students. Then, frame your strengths in a way that aligns with those values. This shows the admissions committee that you not only have the skills they're looking for but that you've done your research and are genuinely interested in their program.
When discussing your weaknesses, it's important to be honest and self-aware, but also to show that you're actively working to improve. Rather than simply stating your weaknesses, provide examples of how you've tried to address them in the past. For example, if you struggle with public speaking, discuss the steps you've taken to improve, such as attending Toastmasters or practicing in front of a mirror.
It's also important to discuss how you plan to address your weaknesses in the future. Be specific and show that you're committed to personal growth and improvement. This demonstrates to the admissions committee that you're not only aware of your weaknesses but that you're actively taking steps to address them.
Now, let's move on to the question of whether an MBA after 30 is a good investment.
The short answer is yes, an MBA after 30 can be a good investment, but it depends on a variety of factors, including your career goals, financial situation, and personal circumstances.
One of the primary benefits of getting an MBA after 30 is that you have more work experience and have likely developed a clearer understanding of your career goals. This can help you choose an MBA program that aligns with your goals and provides the skills and knowledge you need to advance your career.
Additionally, many MBA programs offer networking opportunities that can be especially valuable for older students. You'll be surrounded by other professionals who have a wealth of experience and connections that can help you in your career.
However, there are also some potential drawbacks to getting an MBA after 30. For one, you may have more financial responsibilities, such as a mortgage or children's education, that can make it more challenging to take on the financial burden of an MBA program.
Additionally, some employers may view older MBA graduates as overqualified or too expensive, which can make it more difficult to find a job after graduation. It's important to research the job market in your field and talk to people in your network to get a sense of the demand for MBA graduates in your area.
Ultimately, whether an MBA after 30 is a good investment depends on your individual circumstances. If you have a clear career goal that requires an MBA, have the financial means to pay for it, and are willing to commit the time and effort necessary to succeed in the program, then it can be a smart investment in your future.
