SW Hades AU Status Update

I wanted to make a dedicated post about what I’m currently working on for the Star Wars meets Hades AU that looks more consistent than just sharing bits and pieces whenever I’m tagged in a Last Line Challenge. Because what else do I have but the poly sketch requests and this AU for my weekends? (If nothing else I know that the Hades AU has got me XD)

For now Obi-Wan and Maul are stuck at the same stage: they are both lined, have their base colours down as well as the two adjustment layers of coloured lighting.

I suspect if I were ever to get through the agonozing few hours of shading Obi-wan’s face it would be mostly smooth sailing from there. The problem is that there are at least 2 - if not 3 - separate stages where the shaded face looks like I have no idea what I’m doing, and you need to get through the whole thing before it really comes together 😅 on the other hand Hades 2 has a lot of the directional shading I might need for his character art so that might help to get me there.

It also needs to be said that Obi-Wan comes with the extra disadvantage that is the entire background behind him. I’m really hyped to line it finally, it is quite a challenge, but at the same time I’m slowly coming to the realization that I have no idea how I will colour it. Hades backgrounds are so so pretty and full of details and gorgeous colours, and while I’m not delusional enough to think I could match that on first try… I still wish I could, you know? At the same time I will have to erase or recolour a lot of my lines, which will hurt quite a bit, I imagine. I’m so bad at killing my darlings 😅 also I hate laying down flat colours. I just find it very difficult to immerse myself in that process, while lining and shading can have their flow.

I had covered up so many lines and details in Maul’s spider parts it’s a miracle I didn’t cry XD However, tips on grouping my shadows and allowing the shape to speak for itself and the details in them are very helpful and on point.

Worrying over writing dialogue for them is also not as far down my to-do list as I wish it were. I have a good enough idea for a quip for Obi-wan, but Maul? He’d need a whole melodramatic rant of his own XD

Aphra has gotten some new lines and I had fixed the satchel I had forgotten the last time I shared the rough sketch for her, thanks to the new character art for Hades 2! Seeing Odysseus and Hermès’s updated looks were great helps here, so I might as well move on to lining her, and finally adding another female character to the roster on top of Ahsoka!

And then there is the biggest update on these little guys below! I will need to clean up the ones I had drawn for Cobb and Boba (and Din) well over a year ago, but with these my version of chtonic companions are done, and thanks to @lesquatrechevrons I have a full list of keepsakes for each character as well. I’m not very good at drawing these little tchotchkes (I say with Rex’s blaster right there LOL) but I hadn’t been very good at lineart or cell shading when I started this project either, so through forced practice I’m determined to change that :D

(It’s not a screwdriver under Boga, it’s one of Cody’s antennas. “It will grow back, don’t worry,” he says as he snaps it off his pauldron and hands it over to Din. Rex backs him up on that one without question. They can't lie for shit but trolling the shiny is their thing.)

Additional fun fact: the reason why I’d picked up the chtonic companions concepts was because I’d been poking at minor details in the background behind Maul (aside from the Chaos doors), and I started adding credits and recoloured nectar to the corner (before I realized that they wouldn’t be visible once the character interaction comes up oops), and I tried to figure out to whose keepsakes Maul would react favorably. I also mixed up companion dolls and keepsakes, so that’s why the Ahsoka doll came to being (I also forgot that that one belongs to Rex, and not Ahsoka herself but uh… they are close enough that they should count by proxy anyway. It’s not Obi-wan’s cup of tea and that should be enough!). Also bless @mapleowl18 for suggesting Lil Soka as companion for Rex ❤️

So this is the current state of this AU project right now. I have my lists and notes, a few scribbled pose ideas in my sketchbook for Sabine (she might be next, unless Bo and her Nite Owls make a comeback), Satine and Omega (with Batcher), as well as some angry scribbles and question marks for Quinlan (who has apparently made his way back into this AU even though he didn’t get a little icon of his own originally orz), and Obi-wan The Second that would stand with Cody post reunion, but I cannot make that one work for now 😅

The high-vaulted halls of the House were quiet when Megaera returned from her shift. She cast a glance towards the throne, and, upon seeing it empty, sighed. Lord Hades had returned a few times since their last all-hands meeting, but rarely for long, and the paperwork on his desk had piled up into a small mountain. Nyx was not in her usual niche as well and, with its two pillars gone, the House had sunken into a languorous and subdued mood. After tossing a doleful Cerberus a new bone, Megaera headed towards the entrance of the hall.

I’m baaaaack (again) with the babies! I have so little energy to draw nowadays but I’m slowly going on, thankfully since the start I planned a whole good chunk of the story (for once). Who would have known? Having already an idea of what to draw helps the artist!

Also, thanks for the support, it’s truly incredible that people keep finding (and liking?! Wow) this little thing of mine, just tumblr can be such a magical place. I’m glad if I’m gifting you a smile, even if just for a couple of seconds ^^

One more chapter to write for my Halloween Maxim Horvath fic (It’s a highway to hell but oh, the things we do for love), and then it's done!

I slightly underestimated how long the fic would be. Instead of five chapters at the most, it will be seven chapters. It's quite likely that I will be able to post it here sometime next week and I am considering the possibility of posting it on AO3 as well.

Saw this new Meiker and at first only intended to do one OC design on it, but uh, it kinda grew to five, so whoops? Lol. All of these designs are on OCs that technically have their own stories, but do appear in a-lot of AUs me and my friend, @disneyfan50 , have going, so uh, these designs are based on those AUs.

From left to right in the top three designs: *Descendants daughter of Hades!Reese in Underworld Goddess Form (or the best that could be done on the Meiker)- between Rewrite The Stars AU and Love From The Stars AU (both based on fanfics by disneyfan). *Love From The Stars AU!Reese normal outfit. *Etherial!Reese from a Parent Swap What If on Love From The Stars AU, aka Reese and Lia swapping parents (so Etherial!Reese and Hades!Lia).

Zagreus would feel a lot better about things if he could apologize.

He replays the events in his mind again and again. He asked Thanatos if he could kiss him. Thanatos said yes. Maybe that was where it had gone wrong—right at the start. Thanatos has shown over and over that he is willing to do what it takes to help Zagreus be free from Tartarus, and maybe Zagreus should have known he was asking too much this time.

But he didn’t stop. He kissed Thanatos, and it was good. It was really, really good, right up until the point Thanatos went still as a statue and then fled. That part was not good, and he turns the kiss over and over in his mind, trying to think of where it went wrong. If he’d held still, as Thanatos had at the beginning, or if he hadn’t used tongue, which in hindsight had been an obviously bad idea, or if he had done it better somehow—if Than had actually told him how he liked to be kissed, and Zagreus had just done that, maybe… maybe he wouldn’t be sitting here wishing so desperately he could kiss Thanatos again and knowing that the chances of that are currently next to zero.

Because he does want to kiss him again. A lot. Once he’d figured out how to do it, it had been very, very good. If they were going to be that good at it, they should have been kissing each other the whole time.

After around an hour of sitting with his legs dangling off the dock and not catching a single fish because he forgot to add bait or a lure, apparently, he tosses the fishing poll to the side and drops his face into his hands.

He’s such an idiot.

He’s in love with Thanatos.

He doesn’t know when his feelings changed, but it would be foolish to deny that they have. He loves Thanatos in the way that he has always loved Thanatos. But he is also in love with Thanatos, somewhat desperately and pathetically going by the events of this afternoon.

He knew. Part of him must have known because as soon as Thanatos agreed to the kissing, part of him felt like he was going to die. And maybe part of him did die—the very carefully built-up wall of denial he’d apparently been tending to—because when he kissed him, when Thanatos tilted his head to get a better angle, it was like it all crumbled away and all that fondness and affection that threatens to overwhelm him all the time finally did. He wanted to kiss Thanatos for the rest of his life. He wanted to kiss every inch of his skin because it was his and Zagreus has never loved anything more. He would have done it, if Thanatos hadn’t fled. He would still be there now, dragging his lips over every part of him, if that had been what Thanatos wanted.

I blame discord for this: as in everyone was in such great agreement that it would be very cool and full of great symbolic potential if Paz was a Zabrak under the helmet, meanwhile I decided to double down on a joke and make him big and blue within his shell as well. So he is a Pantoran now with a fantastic pastel beard (and Din got the full update finally too!)

Thanatos can’t remember the last time he went on a date that wasn’t with his email inbox, so Charon sets about rectifying the situation by making him a profile on a dating app. Sifting through guys who fish and tourists looking for one night stands, Thanatos comes across his childhood best friend, who he hasn’t spoken to since their strange parting as teenagers. Thanzag modern AU, online dating.

“Than— Thanatos?”

He almost thinks he’s imagined it. Gods know how many times he has, in the few years after their friendship ended so abruptly, heard Zagreus’ voice in his head and looked up ever so hopefully, searching for a crooked smile and a pair of green-amber eyes.

This time, he lifts his head carefully, and there he is.

Zagreus, in the flesh, eyes just as striking as he remembers but absent the grin. His hands are stuck in the pocket of his khaki shorts, while the white linen of his rolled-up sleeves strains against forearms that Thanatos can’t help but admire.

Whatever bitterness Thanatos had been prepared to stew on at this unexpected reunion evaporates at the sight of him.

Zagreus.

Thanatos stands, clumsily, narrowly missing banging his knee against the wrought-iron table as his considerable height and long limbs work against him getting out of his seat in any kind of graceful manner.

“Zagreus,” he manages to say, praying that it didn’t come out as desperately as he feels, and seeing the tiny flinching inwards of Zagreus’ shoulders, he holds out his hand.

A large, warm palm comes to meet it.

“It’s— it’s nice to see you, Than.”

They stand there, Thanatos watching Zagreus’ eyes for any hint as to his intentions for this meeting, what he wants from him, after all these years, but they’re impassive and a little guarded. Finally, he remembers that he’s supposed to shake, and lets go, folding himself back into his seat.

“I haven’t ordered yet,” he says awkwardly. “What do you want, I can—”

“No worries, you’re already sitting, I can get it.” Zagreus extracts a worn leather wallet from his pocket, his tone carefully neutral. “They do a good pomegranate iced tea here, I’ll probably get one of those. What are you feeling?”

“Just a latte. Thank you.”

Zagreus gives him a tight, toothless smile, then dips back around the corner and into the café.

The waiting now that Zagreus is here is somehow even more excruciating. Somewhere over there, by the counter and doubtlessly chatting up the barista, is the answer to all of his questions about this strange and unfulfilling chapter of his life. And yet, Thanatos has made his peace with not knowing already. What if the truth is worse, somehow?

He taps fingernails on the table. Checks his email (nothing urgent). The news… nothing good. And then—

“Here you go.”

Zagreus sets the ceramic cup and saucer in front of him, blue like the wash on the domed roofs around here, puts the glass of green-ish, pink-ish beverage in front of his own seat, and sits down.
