To continue supporting content makers, this tag game is meant to show the entire process of making creative content: this can be for any creation.

Thank you so much for tagging me @lan-xichens, I’ll try my best to explain how I made this set from start to finish hehe ♡ and also a big thank you to @suibianjie @highwarlockkareena @nyx4 @aheartfullofjolllly and you as well Kris for putting this all together! Content creators get a lot less recognition than they deserve for all the time they put into their content, so getting everyone to see the (sometimes excessive) process we all go through to put our content in our blog, I hope it creates a positive change!! 💖
1. Planning
The set in question was actually requested by someone so they could celebrate their friend’s birthday! At first I wasn’t entirely sure if I was going to be able to finish it on time (college is very hectic right now) but I was able to finish it three days before the deadline which was may 1st! ^-^
The first thing I did was decide what characters I wanted to use in the set, I first reached out to the person who requested the set if there were certain characters they wanted me to use but they said they didn’t know enough to really give me any directives outside of the quote. I decided, since the quote is applicable to the entirety of the show, that I would try to put in as many characters as possible.
Thus, of course, came the hunting for scenes. Those of you in the net discord surely know I came into the content help channel a few times to ask for certain scenes here and there, and eventually I had to download an additional 10 episodes to the back then 20 or so episodes I had in my CQL episodes folder.
Tumblr media
As you can see I have 30 random episodes of CQL downloaded (slowly but surely getting to the point where I have all 50 episodes downloaded) and I think I ended up using scenes out of at least 20 of those episodes.
I planned out beforehand what characters I would use per gif. I knew obviously I would start out with Wangxian, them being the main characters of the show, and then would work my way down the list. The second gif consists of Nie Huaisang, Nie Mingjue, Jin Zixuan, Jiang Yanli, Wen Qing, and Wen Ning. They’re all family pairings, two being siblings and one being a married couple. The next gifset consists of the Yi City characters, then the fourth gif consists of the juniors, and the final gif has Jin Guangyao, Mianmian, Jiang Cheng, and Lan Xichen in it.
I have to admit though that when I had made the first four gifs I’d forgotten who I would put in the last gif and the when I thought about it the first time around I could only think of Lan Qiren and the very cursed Yaoyang ship 😭 it was only at dinner time that same day that I remembered I hadn’t put Jiang Cheng in my gifset yet and that’s when I thought of the other characters as well.
I had already made my first two gifs when I went to check Hanyi’s blog for layout inspo and eventually I decided I wanted to try a triangle-ish layout, which I doodled below. I eventually ended up changing the layout of the last gif in the final design. It was also the first time I would work with a triangle-ish layout so I was a bit nervous as I was scared it wasn’t going to work out...
Tumblr media
2. Creating
I use Avisynth 2.5 and Adobe Photoshop 2021 (the paid version, unfortunately, I need it for school except I didn’t need it this year but I wanted it so I paid for it with my own money ouch) to make my gifsets! I always start out with trimming down all the scenes I’m going to use into three to five second videos and putting them through Avisynth. This time around I did it separately for each gif I made, simply because I needed so many scenes. I would include a screenshot of my “gif vids” and “temp” folders but I’ve already deleted all the videos, which is what I usually do immediately after a set is posted.
I’ll try my best explaining this gif by gif since each one had a different layout!
2.1 Wangxian
Tumblr media
I think I had up to five different designs of this gif 😭 it started out with the gif on the left originally being more centered and the quote right smack in the center but somehow it felt a bit too... empty? I changed up the design and pulled the gif over to the right and put the two closeups on the left, the exact opposite of the gif I eventually ended up with. I switched things around one more time and saved the gif as you can see it right now, except I didn’t include the lines yet. It was only as I finished up my fourth gif that I decided this gif needed lines as well so I added them ^-^
2.2 Nie Huaisang, Nie Mingjue, Jin Zixuan, Jiang Yanli, Wen Qing, and Wen Ning
Tumblr media
I got the inspiration for the font layout on this gif from this Wenzhou post! I hadn’t tried it before and when I did for this gif I was very happy with the way it turned out :D I wanted to portray that life is a pile of good and bad things, as the quote says, in CQL by mirroring these happy scenes side by side with the sad scenes
2.3 Yi CIty
Tumblr media
My first time working with the triangle layout!! Putting in the lines and making sure they would line up with the second gif took me the longest of all actually  😭 I think once I got the line on the left in I just copy pasted it and flipped it horizontally so I didn’t have to fiddle around with angling it anymore :’) my original idea was to get a happy Song Lan scene and a sad A-Qing scene, but when I stumbled upon this A-Qing scene in ep38 I just had to put it in there because her smile is so precious 🥺 Xue Yang and Xiao Xingchen in the center are also supposed to be mirrored, with Xue Yang embodying the “bad things” and Xiao Xingchen the “good things” ! I also think the Yi City characters fit this part of the quote very well!!
2.4 The Juniors
Tumblr media
Ah yes, the junior quartet!! :D I had this planned out from the very beginning, that I would include happy versus sad juniors in the “vice versa” part of the quote, and I think it worked out quite well! My first idea was to put the “vice versa” completely in the special font and have it typed out over the gifs like I did with the “vice” but as I typed out the “versa” I realized it had one letter too much to be able to do that 😭😭 it took me a while to come up with how I would position the “but” and “versa” and after some moving around I decided to just place them the way I did in the final gif! For the font, I duplicated the “vice” and added a stroke to the duplicate, then I changed the fill setting to 0% so I could slightly drag the duplicate away from the original layer to create the effect that’s in the gif — also, finding a scene in which Jin Ling smiles is really difficult.... he barely even smiles in the scene I ended up using :(
2.5 Jin Guangyao, Mianmian, Jiang Cheng, and Lan Xichen
Tumblr media
The final gif!! I feel like this might come a little across as “I promise I didn’t forget these characters” because they’re a very odd quadruplet to put together, but they were the most important characters left to put in the set! I was thinking of putting Nie Mingjue in here together with Jin Guangyao and Lan Xichen, but I did feel he fit more with his brother up in the second gif. Mei @mylastbraincql cheered me on making this gif for which I was very grateful :D <3 the layout came to be after I googled “how to evenly split a rectangle in four” because I didn’t want a repeat layout in the set  (*/∇\*)
2.6 Coloring
For the coloring I pretty much did all of the tweaking on the first gif and then copy pasted all of it onto the second, third, fourth, and fifth gif. This is usually the way I go about my coloring, I will always edit certain gifs if necessary but I don’t think I had to change the coloring much on any of these gifs? Maybe I added in a curve layer here and there, but nothing major! This is really one of my preferred coloring styles, even though I try to step outside of my comfort zones with other sets ^-^
3. Posting
I will always upload sets into my drafts and edit the caption in there as well, clicking on “preview post” a couple times to check everything looks good on my blog as well, before I post a set. However, this time, since there was a deadline and I finished before the deadline, I put this set in the queue so it would automatically post on the 1st of may! Knowing myself, I would’ve forgotten to do so </3
Whew that was... a lot 😭 did it make any sense? Probably not, but it was fun to ramble ( ´∀`)
I’ll tag

Thank you for the tag Mimi @yiling-recesses ~ it was so fascinating to see how you plan and organise everything and then the editing process as well! ♥
I was tagged to show my process for my Episode 17 Post which somehow got relatively popular, in comparison to the rest at least, so I’m glad to share the behind the scenes of that post in particular. This is going to be a long ride so buckle up friends.  ∑(O_O;)
1. Planning
First of all I have to rewatch the whole entire episode before I can even start on anything. So I usually sit down with pen and paper in hand and ready to pause at any given moment that sparks interest. In case there is a quote that sounds fancy enough to represent the episode I write it down, or when I see a scene or just a certain shot that catches my eyes I screenrecord that certain scene and save it in a folder for that specific episode. Over time I accumulate scenes here and there so I already form a rough idea in my head which scenes would look good together or would make sense together. Sadly this also sometimes leads me to have very few scenes because nothing really inspired me, or I end up with only one quote that I wasn’t even too sure about, but I just make the best out of it. So I basically let the episode itself be the whole drive and inspiration for my edit but I also try to not give away too much in terms of spoilers. So if you were to see it with the knowledge of what’s going on it’s supposed to be hitting a nerve, evoke a memory, or at least make sense, especially given in combination with the quote, but if you were to see this set without the knowledge of what’s happening I’d still like it to be interesting enough without giving away too much of the story. Do I even make sense, mayhaps.
Tumblr media
This is usually what I end up with in my folder, sometimes I have about 20 scenes, sometimes 3, so for episode 17 this was a decent amount to work with! [Also please don’t ask why I name the clips like that, they made sense to me in that moment and it works somehow. And yes Wen Qing is the queen and there is nothing to stop her   (メ` ロ ´)  ] Now it’s time to look through the scenes again that I clipped out and begin with the actual gif making. I use Avisynth to rezise all the gifs to either the smaller squares, the “full” square or sometimes the longer rectangle - honestly I usually do these very much based on what I think would look good in my head and just decide based on that, so sometimes I end up making the same gif again just in a different size because I felt it was lacking impact or ended up looking better in another set. Sometimes I end up not using gifs I made at all  ┐( ˘_˘ )┌
2. Creating
Now that I have this huge mess of endless gifs and pretty scenes that would work as a background loaded in my Photoshop I start to assemble. Given the fact that I always use the same 540x540 format at least the step of building a base is uncomplicated.  The first part of the set I made was the lotus lake scene. The moments that were catching my eyes the most were mainly the close ups of the actual plant. Detailed close ups make my heart go boom boom. So I figured they would pair well with a scene where all three of the siblings were in screen to convey this mood of like ‘happy yunmeng trio being silly in lotus pier yay’, especially given the fact that it’s a fond memory of Wei Wuxian in this oh so painful episode.
Tumblr media
So I have the base grid I always work with, the gif of our three beloved plus the two lotus close ups. From here on it’s just very trial and error where the still pictures fit best over the gif and I just tweak around for so long until it looks good. Once I am done with the positioning of everything I slap my watermark on it and my default colouring for these sets. Of course the default coloring action I made never works the way I want it to so I end up messing around with it for half an eternity to make all the different colours work together and look coherent which sometimes leads me to colour one single part individually and adding more filters to the background and what not. This is how it looked like in this particular edit ~
Tumblr media
For the other two edits I basically repeated the same process just slightly adjusted to whichever format I use [this is already way longer than needed]. When I make the edits with four gifs in the middle I always have to shorten the gifs beforehand so they have the same amount of frames in order to make the whole thing work to begin with. Usually gifs with the same colour palette or same theme work well together so in this case the food and hands stood out to me [hands always do, always]. So I found the perfect set of gifs to work with that and just added a scene of Wei Wuxian in the background as he fell asleep studying the scripts and Wen Qing came to bring him food, since this is a big part of the episode.
Tumblr media
Of course we slap on all the fancy stuff on top afterward and tadaa - it’s a gifset. At last I had the scene of Wen Qing turning her head slightly and I knew from the beginning that I needed to have that scene as a “full” gif as I was just struck with love. I had so many different things I put on top like frames and flowers or tried to put the gif in a certain shape - whatever, it just looked kinda bad - until I found this dragon png and finally had an epiphany. I must confess i didn’t mask out the dragon perfectly to fit behind her but I reached a point of desperation as my creativity of the day left me behind struggling.
Tumblr media
3. Posting
Once I am done with all three edits, sometimes only two depending on the amount of clips I saved, I arrange them in Tumblr and check how they look best. This thing alone can take me forever unless I have a set that has a coherent background throughout all of the individual edits so I don’t need to worry about in what order to arrange them. But once I finally decided on that I go back to my notes of quotes and try to decide which one works best in regard to the criteria I mentioned above. In this set the angsty Jiang Cheng had the honor. For finishing touches I add the link to my other episode sets and all the tags to keep things organized and usually ramble a bit about the process or my feelings. That’s what tags are for, right?
Oof so yeah, that’s it. This turned out way longer than anticipated and I already edited this down...whoops.
I would like to tag:
@huigusu - for this painful beauty
@leonzhng - with this incredible masterpiece
@mylastbraincql - because this post makes me feel things
@fengqing - words can’t even describe
@lan-xichens - this set made me cry
No pressure at all to do this if you do not want to or have already done one before! ♥

Hi....can I ask, MDZS questions: 5, 8, 9, and 12 ...And can I ask (if it's not too much bother), also no. 5, 8, 9, 13 (but it's for TGCF)? Thanks alot.....
Of course! Always happy to get asks 💚
MDZS (spoilers)
5. Moment you fell in love with the series?
Honestly hard to say, my love grew gradually as I went further in the chapters, firstly with the prologue’s foreshadowing of the grand events and tragic past but at the same time knowing that the main character is not gone (because I’m not that keen on true tragedies). Then, I got hooked already in the Mo household arc when wwx showed incredible wit and was constantly several steps ahead of everyone, playing them by their noses, I love puzzles and detective stories so the promise of a plot filled with mysteries excited me. But I think the strongest thing that truly and completely grabbed me by the heart and mercilessly threw me into the “obsessed” bag was the first interactions between wwx and lwj. The clear fondness and care of lwj made me CRAVE for their backstory, I wanted to understand what he was going through and what lead them both to their current place. I wanted to know all of that but also watch wwx realise lwj’s feelings, because I’m very into slow burn and oblivious pining lmao, so this instantly checked my most beloved tropes like it was nothing.
8. Scenes that made you cry?
It’s been a while so I may not remember all, but first and foremost - yi city. Specifically the finale of the flashbacks, when sl was killed then xxc’s soul shredded and a qing murdered by xy. That was the first instance I wept for this novel, and I think it was the second time I cried that year at all. I rarely cry, so I think the only other time (just teary tho) was during the flashback when jc and lwj finally found wwx who was torturing wen chao. Them confronting their broken brother and beloved, whose heart clearly withered after too much pain, the helplessness and despair, the regret... Me watching this character, who I grew fond of and genuinely craved happiness of, driven to madness after months of unimaginable hell was already painful enough, but watching all that from the perspective of his loved ones? Overkill.
That was during the first time I read mdzs, which was over 2 years ago. Idk if I got more emotional or what but when I recently reread the ending I teared up at jc’s unspoken feelings and regrets. And when I started watching cql not long ago I was moved by the scene of wangxian’s first meeting after the reincarnation 😭 idk if it was wuji or sth but a small sob-like sound escaped my mouth then I keysmashed to my friend not a second later lmao. That scene is just so beautiful and emotional when you have the whole picture and know what’s going on in their insides.... 😭
9. Scenes that made you laugh?
Lmaooo it’d prolly be easier to say which didn’t make me laugh. Mxtx’s humor hits just the right spots for me, so I think there aren’t many chapters which didn’t make me laugh. Most of these laughs are probably situational humor, like literally just a sentence of a cheeky summary or a thought etc. But if it’s about the whole scenes, let me think. Some with Apple The Stubborn Donkey, some at Mo household (like the first cheeky interaction between wwx and the servants in mxy’s room), every single scene of drunk lwj™ lmfao, a lot of scenes during the gusu studying period (wwx’s constant teasing of lwj, the wwx-jc-nhs trio shenanigans, wwx vs lq like during lectures etc.). Idk there are just so many I could go on and on, this novel is hilarious.
12. You can give a happy ending to Jian Cheng, Song Lan or Lan Xichen, who do you choose? (edit: I forgot this one xd)
I feared this question the most lmfaoooooooooo. As hard as it is.... I think song lan. I’m very sad for lan xichen and I love jc but both of them, even tho they lost a lot, still have people who love them and care for them and I believe with time they would be fine. Song lan? Damn he suffered so terribly much and he ended up as a walking corpse with his only reason to go on being the hope that the shredded soul of xxc mends in many years. How tragic is that. So yeah, if I could choose one of them then it’d be song lan, poor guy 😭
TGCF (spoilers)
5. Moment you fell in love with the series?
I think it was the ghost bridegroom arc. At that point there was some exposition already (even though still mostly confusing), and I already grew much fond of xie lian and his two ‘helpers’, bad at disguises and jarringly obvious but in a heartwarming way, generally all the characters which appeared even if just side-characters felt very real and that impressed me. Then the whole investigation and solving a mystery with elements of horror started happening which is just *chef’s kiss* exactly up my alley. But what finally put a leash on me and tied me to this novel in the most final way was san lang’s appearance and the interactions between him and xl 🥺 He fascinated me, and I loved his cheeky, eyes-only-for-mc, smart and teasing vibe, exactly my Type xd If I were to pick a specific scene then it was their meeting on the cart after which I remember I stopped putting this book down unless forced to. I am very much fond of this scene to this day.
8. Scenes that made you cry?
BOOK 4. Just. Book 4, you cursed little- Uhhh I think I cried at least 2 times there but at this point my memory of those events melted into a fest of pain and regrets, so I can’t state them clearly xd Possibly ruoye’s creation :’) and wu ming’s sacrifice :’’) and hc’s awakening at the shrine :’’’’’’’’) if you know what I mean. And maybe somewhere else too but idk anymore, it’s just all PAIN
The other instances were the tragic culmination of the venerable of empty words arc :’’) And this scene at the finale when hc gave all his energy to xl :’)
Damn this novel really squeezed my tears out huh
9. Scenes that made you laugh?
Similar to mdzs, this book is a mine of humor for me. Starting with xl’s ascension and all the shenanigans in heaven, mq and fx being themselves, hc’s cheeky comments towards these two like during banyue’s arc when they tried to test him, pei ming my hilarious beloved every scene with him is golden, quan yizhen being adorably derpy and yin yu running away from him and thwacking him with the shovel lmao, the ghost city in general, banyue & pei su cooking at mount tonglu arc. Gods, I love mxtx’s humor and the balance between laughs and pure agony. Incredible.
13. Headcanons?
Hmmm hx checking in on sqx and indirectly helping him out, and sqx slowly healing from his trauma. I like to imagine whether it’d be possible for sqx to ascend again, even tho I remember from the book that it sounded pretty much impossible. But with the heaven being in such a messy state and slowly rebuilt anew, with the need for new gods to fill in the spaces, and with how much sqx helped during the final fight, maaaaybe heaven would grant him this honour with time, make some exception for his crippled cultivation etc. Maybe he would spend some more years helping people as he did, his legend continued spreading, especially after people realised during finale that he was a god, so the story about this fallen god who now helps people in need makes him gather more and more followers until he ascends as the god of beggars, the sick, and the poor. I wonder if by that point he would consider himself worthy of that place and accept it, but if not then I think xl could persuade him that he can help more as a god than mortal. And so, he continues to grow and heal. Anyway, I haven’t thought this through too much, so just throwing random self-indulgent thoughts

Yoooo your new fic is so cool!! How will lwj react to finding out about his daughter?
So, when I wrote the story, I had no idea, hence why I ended it there. But I was thinking on how to answer this last night, and ended up writing an entire second chapter at like one am. And then editted it through my Bio lecture (which was not my best idea but it’s just a kahoot quiz rn so not that bad of idea) but also means it’s lightly editted at best, sorry.
Oh and for Daiyu’s characters, I’ve lost the file that initially had them, but I’m like 80% sure they were 黛玉 which should be Dark Jade if I’m not wrong.
Anyways, hope you enjoy the story, I’ve put this under a read more because it’s long, lol.
Lan Wangji was not happy when Lan Xichen revealed that they did not know where Wei Wuxian was. Nie Mingjue was not happy with Lan Wangji pouting, so Lan Xichen had to stop several attempts of just telling Lan Wangji the school they had picked the kids up at yesterday and the park.
Just because they found out about Daiyu that way, does not mean Wangji has to. In Lan Xichen’s opinion at least. Truly it was up to Wei Wuxian.
So, while Nie Mingjue was cooking breakfast, Lan Xichen texts Wei Wuxian a very simple;
Wangji is here. Would you like to see him?
The question feels a little ridiculous to ask, after all they had just cleared up a major misunderstanding, the only reason Lan Xichen was aware of that they broke up, why wouldn’t Wei Wuxian want to see Lan Wangji? Then again, it has been five years. While Wei Wuxian asked after Lan Wangji’s relationship status, he gave nothing of his own. Aside from the fact that he was living with Wen Qing.
Who, to Lan Xichen’s knowledge, Wei Wuxian hadn’t been all that close to before they had broken up. And considering he was told the Wens moved away from the city barely a week after Wei Wuxian left the Jiangs, there wasn’t much time for him to get so attached to move across the country with them.
So, while waiting for Wei Wuxian to text back, Lan Xichen did his best to distract Lan Wangji. Except, Lan Wangji was not having it.
“Xiongzhang,” Oh that tone was not good. “If Wei Ying does not wish to see me, just tell me.” Lan Wangji asks, sounding serious but looking, to Lan Xichen at least, like if he did as asked he would be breaking Lan Wangji’s heart.
“I’m sure Wei Wuxian wishes to see you. The problem is, is that this is now rather fresh for him. And there are some things he’s told me that make me concerned to just, point you in his vague direction.” Lan Xichen explains since, yes, it was odd for him to be restraining Lan Wangji. In their teenage years Lan Xichen all but pushed Lan Wangji to hang out with Wei Wuxian. And sometimes he did, actually physically push Lan Wangji to hang out with Wei Wuxian.
“He disappeared five years ago without a word.” Lan Wangji states, reminding himself of that oddity before asking, “What happened?”
And the conversation Lan Xichen did not want to have. “After he left the Jiang family, he came to the house to spend the night as he hadn’t expected to be kicked out so soon. You were out with me,” Lan Wangji nods, remembering the night he very much did not want to spend out of the house, “so Uncle answered the door. He told Wei Wuxian you wanted nothing to do with him, and to never contact the Lan family again.” Lan Xichen admits, wincing when Lan Wangji’s eyes go coldly furious. “Of course, this is only what Wei Wuxian has told me, I have not had the chance to hear what Uncle has to say on this.” Lan Xichen reminds, but it didn’t matter. Lan Wangji cared about what Wei Wuxian heard, not what their Uncle meant all those years ago. It does, at this point, seem more important. Even if Uncle hadn’t said so in so many words, it did result in Wei Wuxian disappearing for five years with Lan Wangji’s daughter.
“You should speak to him.” Lan Wangji states coldly, clearing meaning for Lan Xichen to get an explanation that does not result in Lan Wangji dropping contact with all of them and moving in with Wei Wuxian.
Lan Xichen’s not entirely sure that’s not going to happen anyways, considering Daiyu.
Thankfully, Lan Xichen’s phone goes off with an alert, and he’s relieved to see Wei Wuxian texted him back, and the message also relieves, a little.
What the fuck. How the fuck did he get here. I’m not kidding, the trains don’t run overnight here, it’s literally impossible for him to be here. What the fuck. Oh, but, send him to the Starbucks. There’s literally only one in the town so. I’ll meet him there at 10
The idea of going to Starbucks makes Lan Xichen want to send Wangji to the park, but he ignores it and instead repeats the place and time, and Lan Wangji immediately gets on his phone to get a cab to the city. Lan Xichen could offer to drive Lan Wangji himself, or even their car, but he wants some time with Nie Mingjue. And he wants their car at their place tomorrow morning, which if all goes well, Lan Wangji will not be returning to the cabin.
So he lets Lan Wangji leave in a cab.
--
Lan Wangji will admit his actions the previous night were illogical. And rude. First he hung up on his brother, then he ran out on his Uncle without a word (although considering what Lan Xichen told him, he doesn’t feel bad about it anymore) and paid a lot of money to be taken to the rather remote town Wei Wuxian had decided to live in. But now that he knows where Wei Wuxian was, how close he was, he was more than eager. He had been looking for Wei Wuxian for the past five years, never with any success. He had never been sure what had caused Wei Wuxian to leave without a word before, always thought to the weeks previous for anything he’d done. Now that he knows the truth...
He wishes he never agreed to go out with Lan Xichen that night.
But he cannot change the past. All he can do is cherish and love Wei Wuxian now.
Even if that means going to Starbucks.
Lan Wangji pays the cab and walks up to the Starbucks. He can’t help the face he makes, the places are always too loud for him, and it’s a show of excess that makes him twitch. Wei Wuxian always liked them, so he always made an effort to at least tolerate the places, but he couldn’t help the cringe.
Of course, the cringe drops from his face as he hears a familiar bark of laughter, snapping his head to the side to see Wei Wuxian. Looking the same as ever. No. Not the same. Older. More lines, more age, but no less beautiful. With a bling bright smile, “What’s with Lans and Starbucks?” Wei Wuxian asks laughing.
“Wei Ying.” Lan Wangji whispers, before processing the question and answering, “You know our principles, do you not think it’s the opposite of everything we value?”
Wei Wuxian shrugs, tilting his head to the side, “I guess. Counterpoint, their Frappuccino’s are delicious.”
“Excessive amounts of sugar.” Lan Wangji counters, feeling sixteen again and like lecturing Wei Wuxian on what those drinks will do to his health.
“Hey, some sugar is good. Besides, I don’t think I ever got you to try their Matcha Frapp.” Wei Wuxian says, grabbing Lan Wangji’s arm and dragging him into the Starbucks.
“Why.”
“Why not?” There was the smile again, bright and beautiful.
And Lan Wangji couldn’t argue. This Starbucks was quieter, than the ones Wei Wuxian would drag him to years ago, Wei Wuxian orders quickly for them both, and Lan Wangji did nothing but stare.
“Aiyah, Lan Zhan, what’s with the staring?” Wei Wuxian asks after noticing while waiting for their drinks, an amused smile gracing his lips.
Lan Wangji debates his answer, he could say many things, most would probably make Wei Wuxian blush, but in the end he decides on, “Worried Wei Ying will disappear again.”
Wei Wuxian huffs a laugh, “Lan Zhan.” Wei Ying shakes his head, and then his smile drops, which makes Lan Wangji furrow his brow, “So, how much did Lan Xichen tell you?”
“He told me you were here. And what Uncle said. Which was untrue.” Lan Wangji states, not sure what else there was to say. Perhaps how Wei Wuxian chose this place?
Wei Wuxian chuckles, “Yeah, Lan Xichen made that clear yesterday.” Wei Wuxian scratches his nose three times, clearly thinking about something, considering his next actions. Normally it would predate a prank, but Lan Wangji has the distinct feeling Wei Wuxian is not going to be pulling pranks right now. “So, he just said that?” Lan Wangji nods, becoming confused. “Let’s wait for our drinks.” Wei Wuxian decides, confusing Lan Wangji further, but all he does is nod. For now, he’s fine with Wei Wuxian setting the pace.
When they get their drinks and sit down, Lan Wangji eyes his green frapp with contention, only taking a sip when prompted by Wei Wuxian. It wasn’t, terrible. He still didn’t like it. But it was better than the other frapps Wei Wuxian has had him try over the years.
He still didn’t drink more beyond that sip.
Wei Wuxian sighs and sips at his drink a little, before setting it aside, “Well, I suppose I can’t do this the same way I did it with Lan Xichen and Dage.” Lan Wangji furrows his brow slightly, becoming confused once more. “Not unless you’re willing to wait five hours.” Lan Wangji shakes his head, he was not in the mood to be waiting today. Not for long. He’s finally seeing Wei Wuxian again. Wei Wuxian nods, “Didn’t think so. Uh, so. How to say this...”
“You say what you are thinking.” Lan Wangji states, almost on reflex, having said it to Wei Wuxian so many times when they were together, when Wei Wuxian was having trouble putting words to his thoughts.
“I’m thinking how to tell you I was pregnant without breaking your brain.” Wei Wuxian retorts, clearly on reflex, as he always would when Lan Wangji would make that remark. Normally it allowed for Lan Wangji to assist in phrasing, as while Wei Wuxian was better at conversational talking than Lan Wangji, he also typically just trailed off and made half sentences he expected the people around him to understand. While Lan Wangji would consider his words until he knew exactly what he was going to say. Making it easier sometimes, for Lan Wangji to assist.
This time however.
Lan Wangji blinks.
Once.
Pregnant.
Twice.
Pregnant
Thrice.
‘Wei Ying was pregnant when he left.’
Four times.
“And I broke you, shit.” Lan Wangji was not truly paying attention to Wei Wuxian, he should be. Now more than ever. But he can’t.
‘Wei Ying and I had a child.’
‘Wei Ying and I have a child’
No. Maybe not. Wei Wuxian could've- “Did you keep it?” Legally, Wei Wuxian wouldn't have been able to abort without Lan Wangji's permission. But then, legality has never been a concern to Wei Wuxian for all Lan Wangji has known him.
Wei Wuxian blinks, clearly caught off guard by the question. “Uh, yeah. Her name is Daiyu, she’s four. Turning five. In a couple of months actually.”
“Daiyu.” Lan Wangji repeats, nodding, it’s a nice name. She’s four. “May I meet her?” Did Wei Wuxian want him in her life? Did he want Lan Wangji in his? Maybe he met someone else? Maybe what Uncle said stuck with him hard enough that he doesn’t want anything to do with Lan Wangji anymore.
“Well. She’s at school. Well, not school. Qing-jie said she could start next year if she really wants to, but four is too young.” Wei Wuxian shrugs, “I didn’t start school til I was nine so, I don’t really have an opinion. Or, I don’t get one.” That felt wrong. But Lan Wangji has not being helping Wei Wuxian, so, he also does not get an opinion. He thinks. “But there are these activities that go on at the school. From eight to eleven, and then from twelve to three. Technically she’s too young for those too, but the organizer is scared of Qing-jie, so, she’s allowed.” Wei Wuxian nods, “Our daughter is terrifyingly smart Lan Zhan. She might take over the world.”
“She will deserve it.”
“Lan Zhan!” Wei Wuxian exclaims, “You cannot endorse your daughter taking over the world.”
“If she can do it, why shouldn’t she?”
Wei Wuxian’s mouth moves, clearly intent on saying something but nothing comes out but a bark of laughter, “Holy shit. Wen Qing is never going to believe me being the sane parent. What the fuck.”
Ah, too much? He does have four years to make up for. Besides, why shouldn’t he support their daughters business ventures? Or would this be politics? Ah, it would be politics. In that case, “Not until she is at least fourteen.”
“...You’re so going to be the soft parent.” Was Wei Wuxian’s only comment. Then he checks his phone and stands up, “We should start walking over to the school. You can meet Daiyu, and we’ll see if she took our conversation last night to heart.”
Lan Wangji furrows his brow slightly at that, standing as well. Did, Did Daiyu not have a high opinion of him? No, of course she wouldn’t. No matter what Wei Wuxian said, he has been absent. Wei Wuxian chucks both their drinks, which seems like a horrible waste but Lan Wangji was not about to suggest he actually finish that drink, so he follows Wei Wuxian out without comment.
“Does she not like me?” Lan Wangji asks as Wei Wuxian leads them to the school.
Wei Wuxian hums, “It’s not that. It’s just, ok, for the past five years, it’s been the general belief that you essentially had your Uncle break up with me for you in like, the shittiest way. So, in general the Wens aren’t the Lans biggest fans. After Lan Xichen explained what actually happened, the adults are all coming around. Daiyu seemed to be also, but it might still take a while. I mean, yesterday she thought you wanted nothing to do with her.”
“Incorrect.” Lan Wangji would never not want anything to do with his child. He only wishes he had known about her sooner.
Wei Wuxian snorts, “Yeah, explained it to her last night. We shall see if she remains unconvinced.”
He hopes not. He would like to meet her. He would like to help raise her. He should move out here. “If Daiyu is amicable, how do you feel about me moving out here?” He should ask. It might be overstepping. They did break up five years ago, technically.
Wei Wuxian blinks, clearly surprised, “Ah, to spend time with Daiyu? I don’t know how your uncle would feel if you moved out here, maybe you could use the Nie’s cabin every few weeks, for visitation? That way you could still work, and meet people.”
Why would Lan Wangji want to meet people? He hates people. Wait. Lan Wangji considers the words, coming to the conclusion that it was a euphemism. But for- Oh. Ew. “No people. Only Wei Ying.”
Now Wei Wuxian was surprised and confused, and he chuckles awkwardly, “Lan Zhan, it’s been five years.”
“It’s only ever been Wei Ying.” Lan Wangji affirms, then, softer, “If Wei Ying no longer wishes for a relationship...” it would hurt, but he would get over it.
(He would not. He would spend his decades with the bunnies Wei Wuxian got him writing sappy love songs. As he’s been doing for five years. Although, in those decades, he might actually relent to Nie Huaisang’s plans of recording and selling those songs.)
Thankfully Wei Ying shakes his head, “Ah no! That’s not-” Wei Ying nods, and steals Lan Wangji’s wording, “Only Lan Zhan.”
It makes Lan Zhan smile softly, entirely entranced by Wei Wuxian, entirely in love with the man in front of him.
When they arrive at the school, there are children running about the front area on the grass. “Oh, they must’ve let out early. We still have ten minutes.” Wei Wuxian comments idly. Lan Wangji was curious as to what he planned for them to do for ten minutes, but that was moot now. Instead, Wei Wuxian was scanning the yard, presumably for Wei Daiyu. Eventually he seems to find her since he makes several ‘come over’ motions.
Soon enough a small child barrels into Wei Wuxian’s legs. “Oof. Nice to see you again too.” Wei Wuxian jokes, smiling down at their daughter.
Daiyu doesn’t look at Wei Wuxian, instead, still clinging to Wei Wuxian’s leg, she turns her head slightly to look at Lan Wangji. Lan Wangji’s breath catches in his throat, she had Wei Wuxian’s nose and chin. He crouches down to be on her level. “I am Lan Wangji, it’s a pleasure to meet you, Wei Daiyu.”
Wei Wuxian snorts, “You don’t need to be formal with your own daughter Lan Zhan. A-Yu,” Wei Wuxian puts a hand on Daiyu’s back, making the young girl look up at him, “this is your A-Die.”
Daiyu returns her gaze to Lan Wangji, “Why are you here now?”
“I was told where you were.” Lan Wangji states truthfully.
“How come you didn’t look for us?” Daiyu demands.
“I did.” Lan Wangji admits, making Wei Wuxian stop, blinking in shock, “But your A-Niang is very good at disappearing.”
Daiyu seemed to consider before nodding, accepting that answer, “Are you staying?”
“If you’ll let me. If you want me here, I will be here for you, for the rest of my life.” Lan Wangji promises.
Lan Wangji worries, for a moment, that they were the wrong words as tears well up in Daiyu’s eyes, but then she was in his arms, burying her face in his shirt, soaking it with tears and snot- not that Lan Wangji minded- telling him he was never allowed to leave. Lan Wangji wraps his arms around his daughter, holding her close with a soft smile on his face.
So, they were the right words.
Lan Wangji smiles up at Wei Wuxian, who seemed utterly relieved and happy, just smiling softly at the pair, Lan Wangji knows he still irrevocably in love with Wei Wuxian, and seeing him like this makes him confident that Wei Wuxian still loves him. With that, Lan Wangji knows with absolution, that he's moving out here.
Whether he tells anyone is still up for debate.

From planning to posting, share your process for making creative content!
To continue supporting content makers, this tag game is meant to show the entire process of making creative content: this can be for any creation.
RULES: When your work is tagged, show the process of its creation from planning to posting, then tag 5 people with a specific link to one of their creative works you’d like to see the process of. Use the tag #showyourprocess so we can find yours!
Thank you ali for the tag on this collaboration with @nyx4, ali! @wendashanren
tagging: (I mostly talk about collaboration for this one but if you check #showyourprocess most people talk about how they made their creations or check my first post about giffing here!)

I wanted to collaborate with Jackie on a set. We’d talked about it anyway, and thought about what we could work on. So when I saw this request on mdzsnet, i knew this was the one for us.
wei wuxian, black/red, cql, yp!wwx/sunshot campaign scenes/nightless city scenes, the lyrics from "the war" by syml
I knew Jackie loved Syml, so she’d want to make this request, so I put both our names down to claim it, then when Jackie was online checked if she’d prefer to do this one solo, or shared. She loved the idea of a collab, so we got to work.
First we listened to the song a couple of times, thinking about how it worked for wei wuxian. then we broke down which lyrics we wanted to use and the general scenes for them.
Tumblr media
We split them out across a number of gifs (originally it was 4 but I don’t have a screenshot of that) with a general idea of scenes we’d work from for each. As you can see, I do plan but my notes tend to be sparse reminders rather than detailed. jackie wanted to dig the angst knife in deep and wanted the ‘my war is over’ to coincide with wei wuxian falling off the cliff, so we worked back from that for our scene choices.
Jackie:
Originally it was going to be 4 gifs, all of them with the lyrics that made it to the final set, but it would have been too much text on each gif so first we decided on a gif without text in the middle before deciding on spreading out the song a bit more which led to the 7 gif set.
We started making gifs 1 and 3. in my usual fashion i made about 10 gifs to pick which scenes i wanted to work with & jackie made 1 because she isn’t an idiot.
Jackie:
Kareena does make a ton of gifs just to choose one or two, which is both amusing and amazing. I have proof!
Tumblr media
Luckily we’re both admins on WoHDaily, so we used the drafts in there to share a post we could both edit gifs in & out of.
I’d wanted to do a silhouette edit similar to one in @lan-xichens lovely overlay tutorial, but it wasn’t coming out the way i’d liked, so I had to keep trying different things until it worked as I’d envisioned.
I finished a touch before Jackie who had taken time to pick emotionally devastating scenes for her gif, so we used my red throughout both, but then  tweaked each gif with feedback from each other.
Jackie:
When we first decided on the scenes, I waited for her to do the first gif so I could match her colors. Once she made the first one, I showed her this template I made so we could visualize how it’d look.
Tumblr media
Then we moved on to the next gifs. This was harder, because we didn’t want to overload the set by making every single gif super fancy, so we tried out a variety of things to see what would hang together nicely.
Tumblr media
Above is an example of one idea of mine that got discarded. I think i had 3 iterations before we got to the gif below.
Tumblr media
Jackie:
I then moved on to gif #6 and I made a gif which Kareena completely shut down. She said, Jackie, this is really ugly. I accepted it, because she is the one with the skills here, and because she was right. (KAREENA: this is a lie - the gif is *gorgeous* but it just has a lot going on in an already busy gifset.)
There was too much going on in that gif and it didn’t really fit with the set we were making. The gif we ended up with fit much better and I’m glad she said something. For the last gif, I showed her a few shots and we both agreed on those two (wwx crying, walking backwards on the cliff). I made a couple of gifs that Kareena was nice enough to say were gorgeous, but I thought they sucked. Third one is what we ended up with.
For me, most of the work was in getting the scenes to fit the lyrics and to work with the color scheme that the requester gave us.
We continued to work this way, making ideas and sharing them, tweaking or discarding or remaking as necessary until we were both happy with the gifs. It wasn’t too hard to get them to work as a set, it was mostly about communication and honesty. jackie and i get on well enough to crit each others gifs without worry, so we both liked what was created. We pushed each other, Jackie knows I’m very lazy & she didn’t let me slack. I pushed her in other areas so that we both tried out new skills.
Once the seven gifs were made, it was time for typography! We spent a little time discussing our love of simple fonts, sharing a few examples, before I handed over to jackie as the typography queen.
Now, fonts:
Yup, I like simple fonts and for the typography not to take over the whole set. Luckily, Kareena feels the same way, so early on we decided on two fonts, one of them to highlight a word here or there. I showered her some fonts samples, we agreed on a style, and then I got to work.
The fonts used were:
Ostrich Sans  https://www.fontsquirrel.com/fonts/ostrich-sans
Memories  https://www.dafont.com/memories-2.font
I kept it simple, just looking where the text would look best. I didn’t know how to wrap text around a shape before, which is what I wanted for gif #3. Turns out it’s very easy and people probably know this already but I’m a ps noob (lie). Still putting this here just in case anyone wants to know.
Using the Ellipse Tool/Custom Shape Tool, I made a circle 2px bigger than the bw gif i wanted to wrap the text around. I didn’t want the shape to be visible, so I chose Path there. (If you choose shape, the actual shape will be visible in whatever color you have chosen)
Tumblr media
With the Type Tool, just hover over the line of the shape and a squiggly thing will appear. Click and start typing. I then dragged the text and fit it over the bw gif. I made the shape on the side so I could see it clearly, but you can make it over the actual shape you want the text to wrap around. Listen, this is the best I can describe it ✌
Tumblr media
We discussed how to post the set. Since it was a group effort, should one of us post it or should we post it via the net? Since we’ve also got another request lined up to collaborate on, we decided that I would post this set & Jackie would post the next one.
TLDR:
It was fun, it was about communication and compromise. Pushing each other in our weak spots, nitpicking at each gif to make them the best we could, agreeing why one gif might not work in this set. It was about mixing two styles but still creating something we both liked! It was enough fun we have two more collaborations planned, just to keep having fun and to keep learning.

2020 – a (content creator) year in review
I decided to make this into a mix of these two games I was (kinda?) tagged into so thank you for @leonzhng and @tiesanjiao ♥ I hope you don’t mind me doing it like this ^^ all the questions were just so interesting that I wanted to try!
(bc of the amount of questions, I’m placing them under a cut so that I don’t flood anyone’s dash)
Me
(this is the 2020 year in review that hanyi tagged me to ♥ sorry am so late!)
Top 5 Movies you saw this year
wow tbh I didn’t watch many movies this year as I realized yesterday when I was thinking about this for certain reasons. Or at least I feel like I didn’t watch that many? Nothing really stuck with me it seems.
Because of this, I will only mention two: Parasite and The Old Guard. Those were both wonderful in their own ways and I’m very happy I got to watch them both ^^
Top 5 TV shows you watched this year
this one is difficult bc I watched so many (and forgot even more?) but:
The Lost Tomb Reboot (my introduction to DMBJ. this drama stole my heart and helped me through the tough autumn semester!)
Joy of Life (it’s nuts that this happened during 2020? it feels like it was ages ago)
Kingdom (such a positive surprise and I really hope we get more of this :o I really recommend!)
Detective L (easy, nice aesthetics, amazing costumes. Bai Yu was a delight as Luo Fei)
Sand Sea (I am still baffled by how much I loved this bc I had so many doubts? am happy I did tho)
Bonus: Guardian (bc it has come to stay and the rewatch has been so emotional but so rewarding)
Top 5 songs of 2020
this is a tough one too bc I’ve heard so much new music during 2020 but I will try to put it simply:
Black Swan by BTS (I absolutely adore this song. I listened to it on repeat when it came out at the beginning of the year, I have cried for it a ton, I enjoy every stage I see for it and it’s just a masterpiece. it has also helped a bit with my writing struggles that I’ve felt creeping up on me lately)
Always by By The Coast (an amazing song that always leaves me in my feels. inspires me a lot all the time)
Love me or Leave me by DAY6 (this whole album was a masterpiece and I listened to it on loop for like. two weeks? this was my favorite song on it even if I adored the rest too, especially Zombie)
all of my life by Park Won (listened to this a lot in relation to my xicheng and the wedding I finally got to write for them ;; that’s one good thing that came out of this year tbh)
雨人 by 刘畅 (Liu Chang) (with the Reboot’s ending song, this one is my favorite on that ost. I love Liu Chang’s voice, I loved Liu Sang as a character and as I said, I loved Reboot as a drama. I get super emotional about this ost so I think it defined this year a lot for me)
Top 5 books you read in 2020
All For The Game -trilogy (listened to these as audiobooks but that counts right?)
The Song of Achilles (as an audiobook too and really adored the reader’s voice)
The Smoke Thieves -series (I really just binge read the two first books in this series and am so excited for the next one!)
Call Down The Hawk (love love love)
Guardian novel (am not very into these novels usually but I was positively surprised this time? it was so cool to finally get the original story and compare it with the drama version)
5 positive things that happened in 2020
joined mdzsnet and met all the amazing ppl there and got to become part of this loving community and :’) I’m so thankful, it’s been a joy
learned more about editing? or started doing it regularly. I still can’t do shit but am having fun learning more all the time and I really hope that maybe the upcoming year I can switch to PS and try out giffing?
went to Halsey’s concert! it was in february so a bit before all the hassle with covid happened over here ;; it was super cool and so nice and I just. I love Halsey
fell into the DMBJ hellhole which am very much enjoying. it’s a great universe and the story is so good and the dramas have been so fun to watch and. it feels like a good continuation to The Untamed somehow haha (also brought me a new friend! you’re amazing ashen!! ♥)
started therapy and it’s been... a journey. but towards something better I think? it’s something I would’ve needed ages ago but it’s better late than never I suppose
My Creations
(this is the other part where ali was being super sweet and mentioned me ♥ thank you for being so awesome!)
1. first creation and most recent creation of 2020: wow it’s been a while since I’ve looked at this horrible creation but here ya go jkdhgk [x]. I’ve come a long way from this (and my xicheng has come a long way from this too). most recent one is this xiaoge edit that I absolutely adore [x].
2. one of your favorite creations from 2020: this wwx edit that was part of my agust d2 edit series [x]. I loved to give him blue instead of his typical red.
3. a new style you tried this year and a gifset edit that uses it: this [x] wwx edit which I don’t know if I like or not but I was playing around with the font and all the effects instead of just normal screenshots + coloring. also I just adore the quote.
4. a creation to be proud of: I could mention that xiaoge here but in addition, I will also say this wu xie edit for reboot [x]. I managed to capture my vision so well, I was surprised. for cql, this songxiao edit [x]. I loved how it turned out in the end.
5. a creation that took forever: this wangxian edit [x]. like I’ve said several times, I lost sleep bc of it. I just kept struggling with the third pic and how to place the text there D:
6. your creation from 2020 that received the most notes: this lwj/wangxian edit [x]. I had many ideas for this edit when I first started making it and I never managed to capture my vision in the way I first intended... the pictures I was supposed to use just never fit quite right sigh. I dunno why it was this one that gained all the notes in the end bc I personally think I have better ones too but am still thankful :’D
7. a creation you think deserved more notes: as said, dmbj fandom on tumblr is very small so I really want to say the two already mentioned ones (wu xie and xiaoge) and then my pingxie edits [x] [x]. also these wwx edits which I personally am very happy about [x] [x]. and from my agust d2 series, this yun bros one [x].
8. a new fandom you joined and a creation you made for it: really just dmbj this year and I’ve already linked all of my creations for that :’D tho I have plans for another pingxie edit and a liu sang edit! oh and maybe I could mention guardian here with this shen wei [x]. I had so much fun while making it (also the quote just haunted me relentlessly until I gave it a moment).
9. a creation you made that breaks your heart: this must be my easter islanders (lwj and jc) edit [x] that just. awoke many thoughts in me? I’m going to put a link to the version where you can read my ramblings underneath :’D
10. a ‘simple’ creation that you really love: my creation for the creator (gif?) challenge that was going around! [x] it was simple and nice to do and I loved the result. also, it was nice to work with jl for a change :’)
11. a favorite creation created by someone else: oh wow ok so this is going to be rough bc I have so many favorites ;; you can look at this post here [x] to see more!
but to love my two taggers am going to say these [x / x] [x] [x] [x] [x] by hanyi (I always love your edits, the colors you choose, the thoughts you put into them (and your humor too!). there are so many cool things you’ve done that I just stay in awe of! I adore all of it ;; ♥) and these [x] [x] [x] [x] [x] by ali (I love all of your gifsets so much, they have such pretty colors and such good scenes, and I am thankful every day that you make all the amazing dmbj content, pls never stop ;; I should go through all of your creations properly one day! I noticed you have sand sea stuff too and let me scream?) ^^ ♥
12. your favorite content creators and blogs that you appreciate: this is going to be a huge list and I’ve already made my love heard for some but no hurt in doing it again so @i-am-just-a-kiddo @ashenwren @tiesanjiao @kholran @lzswy @englishbunnyrocks @leonzhng @aheartfullofjolllly @yibobibo @inkblue-black @cross-d-a @bloody-bee-tea @fytheuntamed @mdzsnet @lifegoesmon @creeds-eagle @underaswift-sunrise @sarawatsaraleo @lan-xichens @mylastbraincql @wangxianbunnydoodles @manhasetardis @distantsnows @ohsehuns @minmoyu @linglynz @highwarlockkareena @yiqiie @aowyn @alienwlw @wangxiians @kingbadcat @sassyassassy @tytangfei @lanzhannnn @skzmxtp @leoyunxi @yoonqiful @softjeon @rapbabenamjoon @ronan-adam @miyakuli @pavusdorian @arsuf @brolinskeep @gawincaskeyy and so many others! (sorry for all the random ppl on this list that I’ve never even talked to ^^’ just know that you make my dash a wonderful place! ♥)
I won’t tag anyone separately here but everyone who’s already been tagged or sees this is free to do this (or link me posts if you’ve done these already!) ♥ have a nice day everyone!

The Untamed, eps 41-50. Well, I didn’t need my heart anyway...
Tumblr media
Warning! This a very long post, mostly about my feelings. LOL.
So, ep 41. Whoever thought going to the bad guy’s house was a good idea, needs the severe punishment of transcribing all 3000 rules from the Lan Clan. WWX got all the truth but no proof except his word, which of course, only his bf believes. At least that opened the way for that confession at the stairs, surrounded by enemies who were ready to kill them. Who knew such a scene could be so romantic? Also, who the f*ck needs an “I like you” or “I love you” when you can get the message across in a more original and swoonie way while also making it clear that you’re in your SO’s side no matter what. Even if it means you become a public enemy as well. Lan Zhan just got better and better each episode after the flashback ended (and even before that he had his moments of brilliance). That dude has set the bar high for all the boyfriends in the world. Very high.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
God! Those looks!!
Tumblr media
And then he woke up in LZ’s bed, who attended to his wounds, saw him topless and we finally learned about those scars on his back and why it took him 3 years to go look for WWX. And excuse me?! My heart. (Also, @dangermousie, whom I’m forever grateful for convincing me to watch this drama, even if it wasn’t her intention lol, brought to my attention the reason why LZ had that Wen iron branded scar on the exact same spot as WWX and I lost it. I really did. LZ is so extra and intense, I love it.) Learning about LZ’s parents and his childhood from his oldest bro, was such a moving, bittersweet and beautiful scene. Everything about the uncle’s punishments and how he tried to keep LZ away from WWX made so much sense. Hell, even the fact that LZ loves so intensely and all-consuming it’s clear. And also, it made the romance of the show all the more clear, which baffles me. I kept reading about these so called censors, but I don’t think those were monitoring the show, not really. Hurray for love conquering it all!
Tumblr media
So the whole core thing was something I suspected since WWX said there was a way he could recover it for his brother. It was a bit obvious to me, but I was only 80% sure because I thought having no core meant having no “magic” at all (i.e. no use of talismans, or little paper dolls and certainly no controlling zombies or spirits) but I guess it was more related to combat abilites, like the sword thing? Please forgive me if I’ve got it all wrong. But of course I got my confirmation and it was still terribly sad. And the fact that Jiang Cheng acted the way he did, didn’t have his brother’s back and just gave up on him to the point of trying to kill him when he was already attempting suicide by falling off a cliff?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I know I’m in a minority here, but I dislike him too much now... Of course WWX doesn’t have any sort of bad feelings towards his brother because that dude is just the best at being good but Lan Zhan and myself certainly did and I’m pretty sure he’s just never going to let go of his hatred and contempt towards Jiang Cheng and the only reason he tolerates him is because of WWX and the sacrifice he did. I clapped so hard when he picked up the unconscious body of his bf and stepped out of Lotus Pier without a look to Jiang Cheng who was going trhough a well deserved breakdown patrocined by my boy Wen Ning.. I hope he spends every day agonizing over the fact that he has WWX’s core. Something he considered to be everything to be “special” and that his brother gave it away, to him, just because he loved him.
Tumblr media
I’m just torn and can’t decide which one do I love more. Lan Zhan or WWX? The two of them have their bad moments, but they also have their good ones and their super duper good ones. But I guess I don’t have to choose and plus, I love them for different reasons. WWX was a moral compass that called the powerful ones out on their double standards. He was the best and most kind and giving person despite his many traumas and I do wish he’d have thought more highly of himself because he was just better than everyone else, lol. He was so selfless sometimes that I wanted him to be selfish once in a while.
And I loved Lan Zhan for being such a stone cold bitch to everyone, so bluntly honest, who gave zero f*ck to anyone who didn’t deserve a second of his time BUT when he fell for WWX he fell SO HARD it’s amazing he didn’t have any lasting marks... oh wait, he did have those. He didn’t exactly changed, but he did risked everything he valued and believen in because, well, WWX mattered more. And he loved with such an intensity (and a dosis of EXTRA) it surprised the feels out of me lmao. And let’s not forget he saved Yuan and raised him to become the most adorable and thoughtful teenager ever. He did an amazing job with that kid and put all the other parent figures to shame.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The last 3 eps were so fun because of the never ending monologues. Reminded me when, in books, villains just talk and talk and talk and everyone is forced to listen.
I never felt bad for Jin Guangyao. Sorry not sorry. He was a psycho murderer two faced manipulating bitch. Yes. His story, his upbringing and the fact that he was never respected is something that no one deserves. And he had the misfortune of being the son of a disgusting evil monster who died in super disturbing way, but the moment he started plotting with the evil, killing (bad or good) people and the fact that he married and had children with his sister, knowingly, was just too much. He just lost me completely. I can never feel bad for someone like that. He was a kind of villain that just gave me the biggest creeps and I think I can’t get past that to feel empathy for him. I’m so glad LZ cut off his arm, such a badass moment. I just feel bad that Xichen was deceived for so many years and, in the end, was sort of manipulated into killing someone he loved, even if he was a piece of trash. Xichen BEST BRO (only rivals with WWX) IN THE WORLD deserved better and I can’t believe he seriously considered to die besides that evil bitch!
Tumblr media
Nie Huaisang? Wtf? I was so taken aback... I still don’t know what to think about him. Like, he really really surprised me and I guess he did avenge his brother but I just had this image of him that was completely different and lol I think I need to rewatch the drama to let his plan sink in and finally process it.
So, let’s talk about that ending. After the final battle, LZ and WWX managed to sneak out (how their young fans students even let them is a surprise to me) but Yuan and Wen Ning caught up to them and WWX finally learnt the truth about Yuan’s real identity. Such a sweet moment. WWX realized that his efforts in saving the last Wens were not in vain. Awww. I loved that whole scene and I loved that Wen Ning decided to take on his own journey. He deserves happiness, I hope he gets it. But I think I need to read the novel to have more of a closure with the Jiang Cheng thing and his nephew. I mean... it can’t end like that, right? I know things can never be the same but I hope he tries to mend his relationship with his brother. And that Jing Ling gets to know WWX for real.
I can’t help but think, that if things were different, if Yanli had survived and WWX somehow didn’t become no1 enemy, maybe he would’ve been Jing Ling’s favorite uncle.
Tumblr media
But okay... that ending. The real one. I mean, wtf? I’ve never liked this faked goodbyes. Never. Be it movies or dramas. They make no sense. But well, I guess they thought, somehow, that the drama needed it so the ending was even more touching. Tell you what, if it was done for that final brilliant smile on Wuxian’s face when he sees Lan Zhan, then I guess I can forgive it.
The Untamed was a whole experience of another kind. A very good one and I’m glad I watched it. Before watching, I couldn’t understand why everyone was so crazy about it, even months after having finished it and now, I completely understand. I was crazy about it as well and it will remain one of my fave shows. The story, the characters, the romance, the moral questioning, the issues that adressed, everything was done perfectly. It took my heart.
Now excuse me while I curl up in a fetal position thinking about this drama and my feelings for it and watch fan edits of them on Youtube.
Note: By the way, does anyone know of any dramas where Xiao Zhan and Wang Yibo, separately of course, are the leads in a modern era drama? I tried looking it up, but it looks like Xiao Zhan has made only one modern drama set to air this year? And I thought WY had a drama, but has it aired? Do the chinese actors are like the korean ones in the sense that, when they become famous, they do projects every 2-3 years?
Tumblr media
Thank you, The Untamed. It was truly a unique and wonderful experience. I loved this story so so so so much. And the romance was delicious.

I should name this Untamed fic Part 2
Here is Part 1
I’m not editing anything and I’m posting as I go so the structure will probably get fucked up
Part 2: In Which Wei Wuxian Gets a New Assignment
---
The way that Wei Wuxian looks at it, he’s lived ten lives. A few years that he likes to imagine were happy while his parents were alive. A few months as a beggar. Ten years as an adopted son. Three months as a student in Cloud Recesses. Fifteen glorious minutes as the focus of Lan Wangji’s irritated attention. A month that felt like a year as an orphan, again, hauling a comatose Jiang Cheng from one hideout to another. Two months recovering from a surgery no one can ever know about. A year and a half of wandering, too scared to face Jiang Cheng and the rest of the world, losing himself in the hills above Yiling, something in the mountain pulling him higher, deeper, calling to the void inside him and then spitting him back out. Two months in the prison at Qishan and then on trial for a couple things he did and a dozen things that had nothing to do with him—the ambush on the Lan hunting party chief among them. And now as a servant, mediocre and common and doing penance to a sect he’s never actually wronged. Unless you count breaking two hundred and seven of their rules in three months as a teenager. In his defense, three months is a long time, and Emperor’s Smile is really very good.
He’s early, which is truly unusual for him, but he’d been too nervous to sleep. He’s just approached the instruction pavilion when he hears raised voices from inside. Well, raised as much as they ever are in Cloud Recesses.
“—I the Sect Leader, or am I not?” That sounds like Lan Xichen, though Wei Wuxian has never heard his voice be anything other than cool and placid as a mountain lake.
There is a long pause, or at least a moment where Wei Wuxian can’t hear what’s happening.
“—boy is a problem, Xichen, and I caution you against your own optimism—” Lan Qiren’s voice fades out into an irritated mumble.
“—less there is proof, and if you recall, Wen Ruohan produced no—”
They must be approaching the door, as Wei Wuxian can hear much more clearly now. Eavesdropping is forbidden in Cloud Recesses, but hey, they’re the ones that ordered him here at the ass crack of dawn.
No proof, he says there was no proof, he lets himself think for just a moment before shoving the hope back down. Doesn’t matter.
“With or without proof, it’s not a risk that should be taken. Certainly not with the children. Even if your faith is not misplaced, in the best case scenario, the boy is loud, he is flighty, he is unsuitable, and he is a problem.”
“Uncle,” Lan Xichen sounds calm as ever, but there is a surprising amount of steel in his tone. “I am the leader of this sect. I will always value your input and I am grateful for all of the education I’ve received at your hands, but you have to let me lead. And you have to let me disagree with you on some things. You turned down the role of sect leader for a reason, didn’t you?”
Wei Wuxian’s eyebrows shoot up. After the former sect leader and numerous high ranking members were killed in the ambush, it seemed only natural that the title should pass to his oldest son, the great Zewu-jun, despite his relatively young age. To hear that the first choice had been the Grand Master is certainly a surprise.
There is a very long pause, and the door opens just a crack. Wei Wuxian tucks himself away around the corner of the building.
“Very well,” Lan Qiren says. “Just make sure he is supervised.”
“I trust Wangji,” the Sect Leader says, and his voice sounds like a book being closed, tied, and slotted back onto the shelf. Final.
It’s a lucky thing that the Grand Master isn’t coming back his way, or Wei Wuxian isn’t sure how he’d stay unnoticed. He waits a moment before yawning loudly and stamping his feet a few times, then coming around the corner hopefully looking like someone who just rolled out of bed five minutes ago.
“Zewu-jun,” he says respectfully, executing a neat bow. He’s always liked the Sect Leader, and the little ember of hope tries valiantly to rekindle itself at the kindness in his expression. How long has it been since someone looked at him with actual kindness?
“Young Master Wei.”
No one calls him that anymore, either.
“Please come inside.”
The room seems smaller than he remembers even without the crowd of white-clad students. Lan Xichen does not sit, so Wei Wuxian keeps a respectful distance and waits.
“How are your quarters?”
Wei Wuxian can’t keep the surprise off his face at the question. “Um. Fine? Yes, they’re fine, thank you for inquiring.”
Lan Xichen nods thoughtfully. “Lin Biming has informed you that you are to be reassigned?”
“Yes, Zewu-jun.”
There’s an awkward pause. Am I supposed to ask? Wei Wuxian wonders.
“How much do you know about the ambush that claimed the life of the former Sect Leader?”
Wei Wuxian’s mouth goes completely dry. “It— I mean, I, uh—”
“I’m quite certain you were not involved.”
He feels himself list to the side, almost stumbling in shock. No sect leader, no one had ever said they believed him. Not even Jiang Cheng.
“Forgive me, I am not asking for information that you do not have. I am merely attempting to provide context for your new position. As you know, the former Sect Leader was killed in the ambush, but so were a good number of our senior disciples and experienced instructors. My brother, Lan Wangji, was meant to be on the night hunt as well, but as luck would have it he had stayed in Cloud Recesses to help tend to one of the children who had fallen ill.”
“I know who your brother is.” For some reason that’s the only thing that comes out of his mouth.
Lan Xichen smiles just slightly. “Of course. In the aftermath of the attack, as you know, I assumed the role of Sect Leader. My brother has taken over the training of our younger disciples. Other instructors and caregivers have come to Gusu assist over the past few months, but none have stayed for very long.”
Wei Wuxian doesn’t feel like he can ask Why not, but he really, really wants to.
“I am assigning you to care for the young disciples. Lan Wangji will be in charge of their training and education, but other duties will fall to you. Making sure they are fed, clean, sleeping and waking at the appropriate time. Approved recreation activities, memorization of the rules. My brother is a very capable teacher,” a warmer smile flickers across Lan Xichen’s face, “but they are children. That is what we need help with. Not someone to train a generation of cultivators; someone to raise children.”
“But I—” Wei Wuxian can’t help himself. “I’ve never raised children. I mean I have no— I’m not a—”
“And you were never taught demonic cultivation techniques. But in less than a year you could raise and control an army of thirty-plus puppets, repress a soul-eater with a single talisman when it usually takes at least three, and transfer a curse from one victim to another without physical touch or spiritual power.”
“I—” He’s not sure if this list is meant to inspire confidence or to remind him why he’s earned this punishment. “It’s really not that hard if you think about the curse as its own entity. I mean, instead of a thing that takes energy to target and release, you see it as, I don’t know, not a being, but something with a want or a desire. And then it’s just making your intended target into something more attractive to the curse than whoever’s got it in the first place. It’s not, like, a genius thing.”
Lan Xichen blinks at him, and Wei Wuxian can’t quite read his expression. “You are not to teach that to the children.”
Wei Wuxian laughs. “I may be a fool and a demon, but I’m not interested in trying to control a bunch of twelve-year-olds with the ability to curse each other.”
He waits, but Lan Xichen says nothing further.
“So I’m a quick study,” Wei Wuxian says carefully. “That doesn’t make me— That doesn’t answer my question.”
“I remember you,” the Sect Leader says simply. “From before.”
“I was a terror.”
Lan Xichen inclines his head just slightly. “So you’ll understand them, particularly the difficult ones.”
He can’t help a snort of laughter at that. He supposes it’s true. He remembers being a kid. He still feels like a kid, though he’s nineteen now. Sometimes he thinks he’s just been switching from one type of kid to another. So many lives, never a chance to grow up.
“Do you agree to the position?” Lan Xichen asks.
“Do I have a choice?”
“No, not really.”
Wei Wuxian gives him his most winning smile. “Great. When do I start?”

Who’s ready for a barely-edited unhinged somewhat drunken rant to my friends about Jiang Cheng?
ME: okay so here is why jiang cheng is THE BEST and I will fite anyone who doesn't like him. first off when we first meet him he is obviously supposed to be a dick, like I didn't like him at first either, I was like "what the fuck is this guy's problem" but O MY FRIENDS do we ever find out what his problem is.
here we have this guy who we see is very talented, very strong, cares a lot about doing A Good Job and his appearance. oh yes Jiang Cheng cares so much about his reputation and this is portrayed as kind of a weakness/flaw, which isn't totally inaccurate. But WHY is he like this?? Because his parents suck essentially
like the whole part where he's like "my dad doesn't like me because he doesn't like my mom" is super telling because do we ever see in the show any affection shown to jc from his parents? basically like twice: the one time his mom hugs him and he's like O_O omg mom is hugging me???? this has never happened what do???? which, oh no baby
and then when he is having his golden core transplant and we see the flashback to when he was a CHILD. like the one time with his brother and sister and parents and they are happy and smiling and calling for him to join and he sees his little child self running... and then TEARS OF BLOOD OH NO
so basically like, his dad sucks for being strict with him and not really fathering him at all, his mom is basically straight up abusive. he never gets shown affection by ANYONE except for Yanli and Wei Ying. So obviously those are his two primary relationships.
but the thing is he wants that parental approval SO BAD. that's why he has all this pressure to be like, the perfect clan leader's son, the perfect young cultivator, etc etc. Literally any flaw will be pounced on by his mom or just ignored by his dad. Like he's just trying to get his dad to acknowledge him and his mom to maybe not yell at him?
meanwhile wwx is just dicking around and being contrary and like, jc wants that. It's why he's always with him. It's why he's there with the Party Room at the cloud recesses having the alcohol with huiasang, it's why he's always by wwx's side, and it's why he makes that comment, when have I ever dodged a punishment with you?
like he's incredibly fiercely loyal to wwx because even though he has this inferiority thing, especially since his dad really IS kinder and more affectionate to wwx, wwx is the one person he can depend on
like yanli is obviously an emotional support to both of them and basically a surrogate mother, but she's not anywhere near their level of cultivation and he's like, obviously we must protect her. like what can she really do to protect either of them? so they both take it upon themselves to protect her
like I don't know how much you saw of the anime or whatever R but in that one/the novel the scene where Jin Zixuan disses her is way harsher
R: :gasp:
ME: and jc wants to punch him and wwx shoves him out of the way precisely because he knows that he, wwx, can be the unruly child and fuck up
R: I haven't watched past the first episode of the anime yet, and in the show it's ?????
ME: so he is protecting jc because jc would END that guy for attacking his sister
oh yeah they want to fucking kick his ass
R: But wow, yeah in the novel it's really clear that wwx is like 'I got him'
ME: like wwx is literally protecting jc because he knows that would cause all sorts of interclan drama. I mean he also wants to fuck the guy up too but the thing is that wwx always trusts jc to do the right thing. out on the night hunt with the wen clan when they have no swords and he goes to help lan zhan? he's like, I gotta it's the right thing, and jc is all like, you gotta worry about yourself? like wwx just goes off because he knows that jc will be fine on his own. he trusts his strength
we see it later in the cave with the slaughter xanwu (sp) where jc is the one who goes swimming and finds the exit and leads people out, and he's like desperately trying to get wwx out and is all I WILL COME BACK FOR YOU
but wwx is like, nah jc will definitely get us help. it's only a matter of time. NO DOUBT. AT ALL
MARLOWE: WALKED TO YUNMENG AND BACK
NO REST
NO CREDIT
ME: and jc is basically constantly like I love you but you keep getting into these situations, and you don't understand that I would fucking die for you. because what would I do without you???
because like he's one of the only two people who shows that he loves jc. and of course jc doesn't know how to like, express love back, because his parents are awful, and it's constantly about looking good. any flaw is pounced on. so he hides it behind this aloof sardonic demeanor, and we see it later when he's constantly like, I'll break your legs to jin ling, and then jin ling is like, pft he's never even touched me
because it's that kind of just, I care about you so much and I don't know how to say it because I have been taught that openly expressing emotion is weakness and I have to shut the fuck up
so instead he hides everything behind this whole *scoffs* face. but you constantly see that he is totally loyal to wwx. he's so worried when he starts getting haunted. he doesn't understand why wwx, who always supported him, who SWORE that he would be his main disciple and main supporter, who would be the lan zhan to his lan xichen, is suddenly not carrying his sword and acting weird? and he's like, I have basically no power, our whole clan got murdered, I'm coasting on the lasting goodwill and good name of the jiang clan and doing my best, and you always had my back even with your sass and... suddenly you're cold to me? he disappears for three months
THREE MONTHS
HE IS SO WORRIED
he's looking everywhere along with lan zhan
they FIND HIM
he's obviously super haunted
but then jc HUGS HIM
which is this huge, like, he actually initiates physical contact
he breaks that aloofness because he is so happy and relieved
and wwx DOES NOT HUG BACK
LIKE
MY HEART BREAK
R: oh noooooh jesus
ME: so then the whole thing with the wen clan but like
R: :cries tears: oh no
ME: he's all okay so I betray you, and jc is like, but, you swore you'd be my guy. and at first it's like they are still in touch though right
R: yah like on the down low
ME: like, I can't protect you from other clans, so wwx is like okay we will say I left so that way the jiang clan doesn't get blamed for this. so wwx is still protecting jc
R: nrghg in the show that line is the worst I was just ack yes
ME: but jc doesn't really have the power to do anything to help him except support him secretly. like the whole thing where yanli is gonna have a baby and it was jc's idea to have wwx give him the courtesy name, but he doesn't want to admit it because again he just. can't. express emotion. because like imagine him trying to have an emotion at his parents. SHUT DOWN. so he's still just struggling to express anything to anyone really and this is another one of those gestures that he loves wwx. but then the super haunting happens right, and wen ning kills Jin Zixuan, and jc is like
YOU SAID YOU HAD IT UNDER CONTROL
and it's because he TRUSTED him totally, because wwx is his brother and loves him! but he has just hurt the one other person he loves, yanli
R: He's trying so hard to just keep a hold of him just a little oh my god
and he's always been this like...gosh flawed but also flawless?
ME: and he doesn't know what to do because the thing is he's always had faith in wwx's skills, he never would have thought that he would lie to him or betray him but now it's like, fucking haunted. murders the husband. then shows up and yanli gets killed. and yeah yanli dies actually protecting wwx but the thing is jc is like
YOU HAD
ONE JOB
PROTECT YANLI
because that's what they did as brothers. because that was like, their mom, you know???? like their affection mom??? so jc has lost his sister and also his brother, and has NO ONE
R: the one who actually made them food and gave them hugs T_T
ME: and of course he like, loses his shit and is like GO TO HELL because, his entire world has crumbled
R: yes T_T yes T_T of course
ME: he had two people to count on and one is dead and the other betrayed him by causing the other to die, by not having his back like he SWORE, and this is basically the only person who ever demonstrated that he was loved at all. if he doesn't have that what does he even have?
but like, IMMEDIATE regret
we hear about the constant hunting for his body, trying to summon his soul, the single minded dedication to finding him, because what's killing him is of course he regrets his part in wwx's death, but also - why? why did his brother, who he trusted more than anyone, who trusted HIM, who always believed in HIS skills, and HIS dedication, unlike his parents, who he was never good enough for, why did he betray him? like.... you know he's basically sitting there: was it something I did? was I not good enough for you?
you see it with the jealousy with lan zhan. you discarded me for the amazing hanguan jun? WHY AM I NEVER GOOD ENOUGH
and so he's obsessed with trying to get that closure. he Has To Know. and at the end he finally gets an answer. all the weird behavior, the haunting, not having the sword, going everywhere with wen ning as bodyguard - because wwx made the ultimate sacrifice for him - he gave him his golden core. and like, how could... how could anything ever compare to that
like he's crushed because that all happened because he gave himself up to save wwx, and got his core crushed, and was tortured, but he had to save his brother! THE ONLY FAMILY HE HAD LEFT. THE ONLY ONE WHO LOVED HIM. not to discount Yanli but... not the same. just not the same
so he's been sitting there this whole time going: I got my core crushed for you, I was tortured for you, I almost lost cultivation forever for you, and you threw me under the fucking bus, and then he finds out that no, he was good enough the whole time. like, what could wwx possibly give lan zhan that would ever top that, honestly? it's the ultimate affirmation that his relationship with jc WAS important and DID matter and he DID love him. and then he finally gets his apology for how wwx doesn't have his back and just, TEARS FOREVER
CRIES IN FRONT OF EVERYONE
FUCK ALL Y'ALL I AM GONNA HAVE AN EMOTION
and then does he tell wwx about how he got his core crushed? no. because it doesn't matter now. because all that matters is that he knows that wwx loved him. and for once, it's not a competition. he finally knows it's really, truly mutual
and even though there's all these years of bitterness and misunderstanding, like, suddenly he can look back and have the feeling of "he really never stopped loving me" and suddenly he's not so totally alone any more
R: Oh. *OH* I wondered why he didn't tell him.
ME: and NOW all I want is for him to give Jin Ling a goddamn hug
yeah if he told him... it would feel like that one-upmanship again. and I think that jc has finally realized he's good enough. and he doesn't need to do that
R: :flaps hands::flaps hands: it makes sense
ahh
that was the missing piece for me
oh gosh ahh
ME: GROWTH
R: growth!!!!!
ME: but yeah like, jc was literally just sitting there like, what the fuck, I would have died for you, I almost DID fucking die for you, and you turn around and won't wear a sword to support me so that we look like a strong united front with these other clan leaders?and yes, meng yao was right - he should have stood up for wwx and been like "yeah whatever he can do what he wants" instead of acting doubtful. but of course he was doubtful. does wwx even ever touch him after he comes back totally haunted? like definitely not in the same way. I'd have to go back and see
but he's sitting there like, I don't understand! and he can't express himself, and wwx doesn't help because EVERYTHING IS A FUCKING JOKE. WHEN IS HE SERIOUS. WHEN IS HE FUCKING SERIOUS
so jc is like... has it been a joke the whole time? have I been a joke to you the whole time? and that's the catharsis at the end - nope. not a joke. it was real. it was really, really real. you were right to love him and to trust him. all this bad shit, it's not like wwx is innocent, but it WASN'T him. he gets his apology, but more importantly he gets the affirmation that he's really loved and deserving and good enough. and that's like, what he needs the most
he's "parenting" jin ling this way because it's what his parents did to him and he became a good cultivator, so, like, yeah, but also because he wants everyone to know that jin ling is Good Enough, and this is the best way he knows how
SO
THOSE ARE SOME OF MY THOUGHTS
HOPE YOU ENJOYED
MARLOWE: So many feels T_T
Hug all these boys
R: oh gosh your thoughts are wonderful that moment at the end and he's just like 'ah' gnrghghg T_T
ME: RIGHT
like he just looks after wwx and lz, and thinks back, and has a little smile because like, no it was worth it
imagine how much that must have haunted him. like, "I got my core crushed for you! and you betrayed me! I should have let them take you!" but feeling SO TORN because how could he NOT protect his brother? and finally being able to feel okay with that decision for real
R: ahhh
:clutches heart:
MARLOWE: On the way home he spontaneously hugs Jin Ling
Who thinks he’s being strangled or murdered
ME: O_O
WUT IS HOPPEN
IS FINALLY TIME OF BREAKING LEGS X_X
MARLOWE: YES EXACTLY
Jin Ling’s spirit leaves his body
ME: yes
R: ahahaha just a little ghost right out his mouth
ME: then jc is all like
lets him go with a shove and scoffs
pft
let's go
stop standing there with your face like that
MARLOWE: T_T uncle
R: ahaha oh no
ME: but yes also jc cares like so so much and is just constantly doin his best
like yeah he's competitive and a perfectionist but also the jiang clan got wiped the fuck out and in "present" timeline it's still one of the four most powerful clans!he did that!he's harsh and arrogant but skilled and fiercely loyal and obviously cares about making sure that the jiang clan's reputation is as impeccable as possible and you can see how loyal its members are to him. like all these disciples aren't from nowhere. they all had to come in y'know? because so many were murdered by wen fucking chao. and as strict and harsh as he is like, I can just see him being an extremely dedicated teacher, doing his best to make every cultivator in his sect as good as possible
unlike certain assholes who may have totally deserved death by gangbang
MARLOWE: what
ME: what?
MARLOWE: that took a sudden turn
ME: jin guanshan or whatever is a douche fuck that guy
if we're talking clan leaders
just saying
R: XD
MARLOWE: OHHHH
ok i'm back on board all is clear
ME: did you forget
about
death by gangbang
because it's a Real Plot Point
R: OH
THAT GUY
OH MY GOD
MARLOWE: I JUST WANSN'T EXPECTING 'DEATH BY GANGBANG' AS A SUDDEN TURN IN YOUR DEBATE POINT
R: :cackling:
MARLOWE: passionate and thoughtful defense of jiang cheng's virtues as a sect leader
unlike some people and their death by gangbang

( A modern AU! at first I was hesitated because I was to used with the time setting in the novel but my hesitation was just a complete stupid waste of time because this fanfic definitely GOLD)

MDZS ch.103
so as you can see i’m almost fully back on tumblr screaming my heart out, i can’t believe i managed to hold on this long??????? i missed you all and my sons so much?????? thank god i didn’t go on with mdzs, i left with jiang cheng crying and that was AlReDy ToO FreAkInG MuCh for my heart so-
*takes a deep breath again*
Sect Leader Jiang’s words were eternally tainted with mockery. But this time, whom he mocked was no one but himself.
Suddenly, he said, “I’m sorry.”
Wei WuXian hesitated, “… You don’t need to say sorry.”
how
is it
that i already feel like crying. jc said sorry. okay but can i hug him? moreover, can i hug wwx? LET ME IN, MDZS, LET ME IN
EDIT:
It wasn’t something he liked to reminisce about. He didn’t want to be reminded again and again of what it felt like when his core was cut out or what price he had to pay. If this were exposed in the past, he’d most likely laugh and comfort Jiang Cheng, ‘It’s not that big of a deal anyways. Look at me all these years. Without the core, I still managed to come through, didn’t I? Beating everyone I wanted to beat, killing everyone I wanted to kill.’ But now, he indeed didn’t have the strength left to put up such a confident, nonchalant pretense.
From the bottom of his heart, he knew he wasn’t so indifferent about it after all.
*chokes*
oh dear god... so, this chapter apparently really wants to kill as by starting out with all those things we already knew deep down, like how hard of a decision it was for wwx to give up his golden core, how he can’t pretend that it’d didn’t hurt anymore, both physically and emotionally -we all know how proud of his skills wwx was, and he gave up everything for jc. how much, at the same, he owns to the jiangs for the life he was able to conduct. it pains me to imagine how conflicted he must have felt with himself.
we all knew this, but it’s all in plain sight now, for everyone to read.
and it freaking hurts, it hurts so much and wwx is hurting too and i can’t absolutely stand it.
EDIT 2:
Take it as repayment, or take it as redemption. Take it as he’d never received the golden core to begin with.
After explaining things to himself like this again and again, it was as though he was truly as confident and as nonchalant as he made it seem like on the surface, and along the way he could even praise himself for such a state of mind, whether he was lying or not.
But that was in his past life.
(wwx’s soul is so good and full of light it makes me feel like reading his thoughts is astonishing but incredibly dangerous like walking on water.
but that last line also tells me that he is growing out of the pain he suffered and caused, which shows maturity, which feels like real redemption to me. I WANT MY SON HAPPY-)
He clenched Lan WangJi’s hand, saying to Jiang Cheng, “Right now, I do really think… it’s all in the past. It’s been too long. There’s no need to struggle with it any longer.”
(LOOK AT MY SON DRAWING STRENGTH FROM HIS HUSBAND)
EDIT 3:
At this point, still enveloped in Lan XiChen’s robe, Nie HuaiSang gradually woke up. Moaning lightly, he managed to crawl up, still bleary-eyed, “Where am I?”
hello sleeping beauty! how is it that nhs is always where he should be, poor boy
EDIT 4: nhs waking up to wwx and lwj snuggled against each other and feeling like he is gonna faint again is me
EDIT 5:
At the same time, a series of strange sounds came from behind the Guanyin Temple, as though something was being spurt out. A moment later, the cultivators who’d been digging began to wail too.
okay, PLOT. i keep forgetting that. WHAT’S GOING ON
WHAT SCENT
oh no, sushi is alive
oh yes!! seems like jgy isn’t feeling sO gOoD-
EDIT 6:
Lan XiChen hesitated for a moment before asking, “What happened?”
Jin GuangYao paused in surprise. Blood finally seemed to have rose to his cheeks as he managed a smile, “An accident.”
uuuugh maybe i feel a little bad for him, like, why do you have to be so bad, jgy-
EDIT 7:
The pungent smell dissipated gradually. Wei WuXian and Lan WangJi got up as well. A tall mountain of dirt could be seen beside a deep ditch. Quite a delicate coffin lay at one side, atop it a pitch-black box. Both of the two had been opened already, and thin, white smoke continued to rise from within.
wait. wait, so, i am confused, what the hell. why the coffin? what’s that black box? white smoke?? like the white thingy making living people a little less living?? so jgy is going around opening coffins for what? the white pouder?
*yi city arc, triggered*
EDIT 8: nope, okay, it actually looks poisonous enough, it killed so many people!! what the hell is going on uuuuugh
EDIT 9: oh, no, okay, he wanted that coffin, expected someone was in there probably. (well, of course he did, ptf, it’s a coffin)
but oh? no corpse!
Lan XiChen approached. After he saw the horror that had become of the palace, he was shocked, “What in the world did you bury here? How could this be??”
(thank you, xichen, for giving voice to our inner questions!!)
His expression was terrifying indeed, sending chills down Nie HuaiSang’s spine. He didn’t even dare vomit too loudly, covering his mouth behind Lan XiChen’s back, shivering whether out of fear or the cold. Lan XiChen turned around and said a few words of comfort to him, while Jin GuangYao didn’t even have the strength to upkeep his kind, gentle front.
(is it me, or seeing jgy angry is actually comforting? like, he is always so calm and smirky, chilling in the background while the world collapses following his schemes, so him being like this, angry and no longer able to keep up his facade... hello, human jgy!
also, nhs!! OMG BABY, he took it bad, tho i would probably throw up too)
EDIT 10: okay people, let’s all sit back and admire wwx being more clever than everyone else alive.
EDIT 11:
Jin GuangYao’s eyes slowly moved towards him.
Wei WuXian, “The one who told Qin Su the good things you did was Madam Qin’s previous maid, BiCao. But when BiCao suddenly decided to expose everything, did you really believe nobody was pushing things forward from behind? And Maiden SiSi, the one you locked up. Who saved her? Who was the one that told her to go to the YunmengJiang Sect with BiCao and expose your secrets in front of everyone? If they could find out every single one of those hidden secrets of yours, Sect Leader Jin, what’s so hard about coming here beforehand and switching what you wanted to dig up with poisonous smoke to give you when you came?”
oh, wow. wow. okay, so someone effectively was behind it, someone different from jgy, sushi and their peers, i think i guessed right, tho i thought it was lxc pulling the strings secretely. but since he was a prisoner... uhm. it’s gonna be someone unbelievable but totally fitting.
WHICH IS ABSOLUTELY EXCITING OMG
was i right with lxc? or is it maybe someone from the jin sect who wished to wash his/her hands of what jgy is doing? or uhm.......... nhs? uh. because i’m thinking the coffin could have been the one where nmj’s corpse before everything happened...?
EDIT 12:
Wei WuXian grinned, “Sect Leader Jin, have you ever thought that perhaps tonight you’re a mantis, yet there’s an oriole* behind you? The one who’s been watching you might be hiding in the dark this exact moment, observing your every move. No, maybe, it’s not a person…”
The storm muffled the thunder. As he heard the words ‘not a person’, for a split second, something that could be described as fear flashed across Jin GuangYao’s face.
I AM FREAKING SHIVERING WHAT THE HELL WHEN DID THIS BECOME A HORROR STORY!!! can it really be a strange entity trying to get revenge or something? OMG EXPLAIN
uuuuuh that fAcE jgy! THAT’S WHAT YOU DESERVE, T R E M B L E
EDIT 13:
Wei WuXian thought, To other people, Su She’s quite sarcastic, and to Lan Zhan, he’s even more resentful. But he’s sure quite respectful towards Jin GuangYao.
As he thought this, he couldn’t help glancing at Lan WangJi, just in time to see a streak of ice flash before his eyes.
Voice cold, Lan WangJi spoke to Su She, “Turn around.”
Su She was looking down, applying medicine to the scratch marks at his chest, facing them sideways. As he heard Lan WangJi’s almost inviolable command, he involuntarily turned around. As he turned around, both Jiang Cheng and Jin Ling widened their eyes. The grin on Wei WuXian’s face disappeared as well.
He almost couldn’t believe it, “… It’s you!”
GUYS W H A T
WHO IS HE WHAT’S THE MATTER WITH THEM ISN’T THAT SUSHI tho it’s true, he is rude with everyone, wth wTH-
WHO IS THIS
WHAT ARE THEY TALKING ABOUT? GOOOOOOOOOOOD I WANNA KNOW!!!

NMJ would be Sephy but not in the "I'm the son of Jenova" sense and more like "I was experimented with Jenova cells and it droves me mad and now she can control me à la demonic cultivation style". JGY would be president Shinra (not Rufus because he get a redemption arc). Meaning Shinra senior wouldn't die right away and would be there until the end? Jin Ling is Rufus? But who would be JC? Tifa? But he's childhood friend with WWX not MXY. And that wouldn't work with the uncle thing with JL/Rufus.
NHS would be Tifa (because of the whole “maybe he told MXY to summon WWX)? But would that work with NMJ/Sephy? Or NMJ is Barret? And Wen Ning is Sephy for the same reason that I said for NMJ. But who is Hojo? Wouldn’t that better be JGY? The Wen sect is Shinra? But who get the redemption arc? Wen Qing? Because it was her brother and she was not happy and wanted to save him so she worked with Avalanche to save the world? Where does that put the rest of GusuLan and Lanling Jin? NHS is Marlene. If NHS is Marlene then can JC really be Tifa (he knows about the MXY/WWX situation? Somehow?)? Lan Xichen would be Tseng: he got in Shinra to protect his little brother and no one know they’re brothers? But then the Venerated Triad doesn’t exist. And who would be Angeal and Genesis? Aaah! That’s a complicated AU and too many characters get shoved to the side because there’s not enough equivalent! But that’s an interesting AU!
Yeah, this is pretty messy, lol. The supporting cast of FFVII and its related media is way too big. I think the only way to conceivably make it work is to simply edit characters out – keeping the cast small would probably work better and be easier to write (not that i’m going to write it).
But the moment you said “à la demonic cultivation style” I was like…. oh no….. and I immediately went off on a tangent. Here’s what I got:
LWJ asks MXY about WWX, since MXY used to SOLDIER and he’s just like “…. You knew him?” And LWJ says yeah, I was dating him. MXY is just quiet for a moment, and he says, “He killed my best friend and his family, so I killed him. I don’t want to talk about it.”
Tifa’s going to be Jiang Yanli. When LWJ joins AVALANCHE MXY points at her like “oh yeah this is another of Wei Wuxian’s victims, he killed her entire fanily” and she just nods and LWJ is like … wait… isn’t that the girl Wei Wuxian always said “like a great big sister”
The reason why Tifa recruited Cloud was bc they were childhood friends, and in this AU it’s just because he acts too much like WWX, and his story that he killed WWX after his friends family was killed, but won’t talk about who his friend was is just… really weird, because WWX was her brother’s best friend, and he killed her family.
And then they finally get the name of the place where MXY killed WWX, and he’s like “yeah… it was at Yunmeng…” and JYL is just like “???!!” because she does NOT recall MXY being there and something is up
And then during their travels, they cross by Mo Village and in the beginning MXY is like lol look it’s named after me, but he spends 30 minutes there and Madam Mo just kicks him out screaming “you good for nothing that ran away from home to be random army grunt don’t ever come back!!!”
MXY: lol they mustve gotten me mixed up with someone else? i was never in the army and i dont have any living family, my friend’s family basically raised me. At some point he also admits: one of the reasons why i don’t want to talk about it… is because at some reason i forgot the name of my bff, and im really ashamed of myself over it. my memory is really fuzzy sometimes
At this point, both LWJ and JYL are like “HMMMM”
anyway basically, Wei Wuxian should be Zack AND Sephiroth, because he deserves to be a supervillain . He got corrupted by demonic energy and went batshit crazy in Yunmeng. MXY the random army cadet was the one who snapped him out of it by injuring him real bad (not dead yet!). canon thing with both of them being taken in for experiments for a few years; MXY becoming a clone and WWX dying to save him, but as a result of the experiments he literally can’t die, and remnants of his personality split into his various failed clones, most of it going to MXY and his crazy demonic cultivation personality going to straight to the clone that’s being built in the Northern Yiling Burial Mounds…
Other than that, some party members I’d want is Wen Qing and Wen Ning, the remains of the glorious Wen Kingdom (Wutai) that perished during the last war with Jin Corp! Wen Qing’s the healer, Wen Ning is a berserker. Wen Yuan is Marlene. Nie Huaisang, who joined because Jin Corp was responsible for the death of his big bro. He has an airship, just because. I think the president should still be Jin Guangshan so he can die, but Rufus can be Jin Zixuan. Lil’ Apple as Nanaki because rescuing LWJ from being breeded with a “supposedly mythical, but probably just a normal donkey” and just… running out of Koi Tower…. with a donkey…. oh turns out he can wield materia wtf

Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation / Mo Dao Zu Shi Opening PV
As usual, my screenshots + commentary! I love the opening, so pretty.
edit: after some discussion, I think it’s decided (for now) that the third person in the center of the Lanling Jin portrait is Jin Guangshan, not Jin Guangyao, so I’ve changed that.
Tumblr media
I am always weak for ink painting animation scenes, ever since I was a kid watching Mulan. xD Look, badly dubbed martial arts movies aside, there really weren’t many Chinese-centered movies or actors/actresses when I was little. Still aren’t, but aside from my mother translating one of the Monkey King adaptations for me (not even sure how she pulled this off haha) and watching a few movies with subtitles, that was pretty much all there was.
But anyways, here’s a nice ink painting guqin and flowers. Not sure which flowers...plum blossoms? Maybe? I’m awful at identifying flowers.
Tumblr media
And we have Wei Wuxian’s flute to complete the set!
Fun fact that I’ve mentioned somewhere before: Wei Wuxian plays the dizi, a transverse/horizontal flute, as opposed to Lan Xichen’s xiao, a vertical flute. The dizi can produce a livelier tune, the xiao is calmer and more of a deep mellow tune.
No clue what the flowers are this time. Maaybe an orchid??
Tumblr media
kinda resembles it, right?
The plum blossom represents perseverance and endurance, as a flower that blooms despite the winter cold. Sound like someone we know?
As for the orchid...welp, it’s hard to find a reliable source. What do these symbolise in Chinese culture? I don’t know if I trust random flower symbolism sites >> they usually get things a bit off in my experience looking up Japanese flower symbolism and cross-checking with actual Japanese sites. But, what I’ve found seems to indicate they represent nobility (of character) and integrity.
Maybe I’m looking too much into this, but maybe the animation team chose them for a reason. xD
Tumblr media
have some nice bamboo
Tumblr media
title drop! I love this art/animation. also, the little...flame-like thing slowly filling with ink is nice
Tumblr media
a lotus? these flowers are killing me, lol. they’re very pretty, I like the gentle splash of color.
Tumblr media
Pretty dragonflies + lotus flowers
Tumblr media
This is definitely young Wei Wuxian. Definitely. He has an adorable baby face and smile. Plus, Lan Wangji in the next shot also looks younger.
everyone was so happy back then sob.
Tumblr media
I’m actually quite impressed with the way they drew the younger/older selves. The differences are slight, but apparent. also, Lan Wangji has this little pout-frown in this shot haha.
Tumblr media
erm, Lotus Pier? Yes? Looks like it.
Tumblr media
So.
Tumblr media
Prissy. I’m slowly getting used to ikemen Jiang Cheng, but I still think this beautiful elegant face does not suit him xD
Tumblr media
Color coded for your convenience: Yu Ziyuan, Jiang Fengmian, Jiang Yanli.
Ah, I love Jiang Cheng’s mom here. She looks appropriately...glower-y. Like the novel said, “natural at sneering” which she passed onto Jiang Cheng xD.
Tumblr media
Lan Xichen, Lan Qiren, Lan Sizhui, and Lan Jingyi.
omg Lan Qiren you
look at him stroking his beard like some scholarly old dude. I still imagine him with white hair though lol
Tumblr media
Look at this messed up family. Actually this is a highly inaccurate family portrait!! You’re missing a dozen other illegitimate children lol.
Anyways, Jin Zixuan, Jin Guangyao this is probably Jin Guangshan, and Jin Ling I think. Though, Jin Ling ends up looking the same age as Jin Zixuan haha oh how sad.
I do like how they did the peony emblem! Considering how complex that shape is, and how it has to be drawn each time one of these characters appears, I like what they settled on.
Alright, next are the flags. The way they all show up is impressive. Nice animation there.
Tumblr media
This is the Jiang clan’s lotus design. The symbols are actually quite complex, very pretty.
Tumblr media
The Nie clan’s beast head! Looks kind of like an ox.
Tumblr media
Ironically the Lan clan’s flag is there for literally a fraction of a second, this is the only shot I Could get of it. Plus, the light blue on that dark beige makes it difficult to see the cloud. And, of course, we have the Jin clan’s peony as well.
Tumblr media
The Wen clan’s sun motif. So, their color is red. I think we saw their uniform in a early trailer though.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
lol random Lan Wanji and Lan Xichen looking pretty with their hair flying everywhere.
Tumblr media
This really needs a gif to get the full sense of the scene, but it’s a cool one (that weird transition above aside). It’s one of those times Wei Wuxian snuck alcohol into the Cloud Recesses and Lan Wangji started attacking him haha. Then we have Bichen and probably Suibian in the background.
The animation here is quite fluid, I can’t wait to see it in full and not shrunken xD
Tumblr media Tumblr media
These are just cool screenshots.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
WHY THIS ANGLE. I think this is Jin Ling (note the long tied back hair). Notably, you can see Wei Wuxian has his arms crossed behind his back the whole time. In both sequences, Wei Wuxian isn’t attacking at all lol.
Tumblr media
why hello Jiang Cheng you look really weird at this angle
Tumblr media
arrows?? ok looks cool. why you so dramatic Jiang Cheng. you probably didn’t need to flip while using your whip.
I really like the animation of him flipping and landing, it’s smooth and the final action has a bit of weight to it. In contrast to the more airy, light steps in the mini fight sequence to the left.
Tumblr media
Once again nothing to say here, just a nice looking Jin Ling.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Oh look, lots of unfamiliar-familiar faces!
Uhhhh let’s see, Wen Ning and Wen Qing for the first two in the Wen clan’s red and white uniform, then one of the numerous Wen scumbags for the last guy? probably.
Then the unreliable looking guy is Nie Huaisang and the angry D:< looking guy is Nie Mingjue.
poor Nie Huaisang you got tossed in with all the dead people even though you actually live haha.
Tumblr media
A very awkward close up of Lan Wangji’s face. Actually, I really like how his eyes narrow a bit here, it’s perfect for showing his expressions considering he doesn’t really emote very clearly otherwise.
Tumblr media
And that’s a wrap!
I really like the logo/title. very nice.
Now, who’s ready to die with me when the donghua actually comes out??
