One of the many reasons Arcane is so sad is that there’s a surface-level message in Vi and Jinx’s relationship—that it was doomed to end (or at least stall) in some version of this, because Vi was trying to reconnect with a version of her sister who no longer existed. This is a pretty common take I’ve seen; “Vi could only love Powder, Silco could only love Jinx,” that sort of thing.

But if you look more closely, it's clear (in my opinion) that that wasn't the case at all, and that of course Vi could’ve come to love Jinx—she kept reassuring her that she wouldn’t leave even when Jinx had a gun pointed at her face, and kept trying even after she knew what sort of person Jinx was now. Everything about Vi shows us that she values being with her sister to an arguably irrational degree, no matter who Jinx is.

She wasn’t fundamentally unable to love Jinx; she was prevented from doing so by the tragic structure of the narrative (or, in layman’s terms, all the Stuff that went Wrong All The Time), leaving both her and Jinx to feel like they failed. It always had to end this way, perhaps—but it always had to end this way because of the story, not because of the characters (except insofar as Jinx's insecurity is a plot device).

And, personally, I find that a lot sadder than if they just drifted apart and couldn’t connect anymore.

Plus it makes it really easy to write fix-its, so there’s that.

#This is phrased like an analysis #but really it just annoys me when people say that it had to end this way because Vi can’t accept Jinx #Like. Have you seen Vi #Jinx could’ve killed her family on purpose rather than by accident and Vi would still love her more than anything else #It’s just that they don’t get the time to work through things #because of Jinx’s instability and also the Everything #arcane #vi #jinx

I took a train for a non-medical reason (for the second time in nearly 2 months!)

It went more than 1 stop away(!)

I did not worry about how far away the restaurant was, or if I could walk that far or what it would mean later

We actually changed plans on the fly and wandered around til we found somewhere we liked for a drink

And then went to a SECOND location! Without even checking how far away!

And I sat on a stool????

So confused where fandom/fic writers got this interpretation that Miles does stupid shit that doesn’t make sense or barely works out in the end or puts his friends in unnecessary danger all the time. Like in both movies the others simply underestimate him and don’t understand what Miles is doing cause he thinks like Miles, not like your everyday Spiderman. He uses his Venom Strike to throw Kingpin in the ITSV movie and literally saves Gwen and Peter because they went into battle less than ready. Then had the entire plan to lure the Spiders in ATSV, yet I keep seeing him written like he doesn’t think or gets his friends in trouble even when he understands the danger. Most of the time his different thinking has helped or led people to fix personal issues.

The first movie alone pretty much sets in stone that the exact opposite of what he wants is others to get hurt by his actions, inactions or the actions of others and trying to live up to that belief and the expectations it carries. Across the Spider-verse hammers it home with how he constantly tries to save people because that’s what he should do, rather than listen to some theory that is clearly not absolute at best and outright wrong at worst. Every fic has him being the one to cause issues and not fix them when his planning and actions literally helped save Gayatri and her father.  (c’mon we know the glitching was the spot)

Yeah, I get making him stubborn or strong willed cause he doesn’t listen all the time but usually it’s for a good and valid reason, if he listened every time he was told not to, guess how many of our beloved characters would be dead?
