Hii!! I'm just wondering about requests as I see in your bio that those are open as well! I guess what I'm really curious about is what can be asked for requests? I don't want to assume or anything as I know that you have commissions open as well, and I don't want to be rude by sending a request, when really it's something that should be commissioned, and then not having the funds to be able to do so before the fic is even thought of (if that makes sense??? I apologise if it doesn't, I'm not always the best at verbalising my thoughts).

Requests: What makes it one?

Requests are typically more open to interpretation to the writer. Like “hey can you do a chubby x reader where so and so-“ happens. Or “can you do some headcanons on-“ and more vagueness and left to more freedom. Course I’m more than open to more details. Another big difference is it’ll be public work to tumblr, so whatever you request will be seen by everyone.

Comissions: What makes it one?

Comission’s are, of course, paid for. There is also the fact you can get as detailed as your little heart wants, and have whatever you want happen to the finest details. You can have it be about anything and everything. You want some weird crack shop about like Severus Snape and Bill Weasley hooking up? I’ll give ya that! You want an extremely specific kink about your comfort character? There we go! Stuff like that also can be longer, and written in a more specific way. As you see with tumblr, it’s very much “as you go-“ writing style. While a comission will go through a lot of rough drafts, and be far longer and such

Finale take away

Requests are more so asking about “can you write a x reader/headcanons” while public on tumblr, while Coms are more so everything else, plus more and a private piece that you give consent on if can be shared on a media platform or not. As I’ve said before, I don’t mind extra details about stuff.

I understand that everyone is going through stuff. Trust me, I’ve been in and out of the ER constantly for health issues. Hence why I have art, and writing coms open. Money gets very tight when you have to keep being sent to the hospital. Not fun. I hope this helps! At least bring more clarity on the situation. If not, DM’s are open! Sending love!

Hey gang I have a very interesting interest check for you today.

In the past I made these dice chests (one for me, one for a friend, some pics under cut), and I really enjoyed the process of making them. Now of course if I just make random ass boxes I'm not gonna have anywhere to put them so, ya know, maybe I could sell them somehow?

This is a pure interest check as in "if you have any interest in this concept then lemme know" I have no ideas about specifics but I figured I have a bunch of yakuza mutuals, I can maybe make a couple themed boxes. If there's a larger want then expected I'll make more of a concise google form thing to really get the people's voices

Also I called them dice chests, they can also be used for storage, but I'd put felt at the bottom so it works for dice rolling.

This also will not go into full swing until the summer since, ya know I still got a whole other round of classes to get through, but I can definitely concept and stuff. They just probably won't be made until then.

I’m saying this as someone who’s only exposure to Dune pre movie was a porn parody flash game, and a blog article about said flash game arguing that it was one of, if not the most faithful Dune adaptation of the time…

How the FUCK, do you not see this whole thing and think… “wow, these people are fucked up, and should not be emulated or looked up to in any real way.” Or “wow, this feels like a Manifest Destiny space AU.” Or “the main character being a privileged white kid who manipulates the religion of the people native to the planet to perform a coup by way of monopolizing and bottlenecking a resource necessary for FTL while ALSO exploiting those same native peoples feels like a bad time all around.”

I’m serious when I say the, again, porn parody flash game, where you play as Paul and the whole point is to monopolize the the spice market and create a harem while you were at it, imparted quite well, that the entire scenario was fucked up for many different and varied reasons.

As much as I agree with your greater point, my joke was targeted mainly at younger dudes. The ones that don't necessarily try to parse "meaning" in anything they look at; but ones that will readily internalize all that dramatized and glorified imagery of jingoistic heroism in whatever context it comes packaged in. time's a flat circle! I choose to find it funny for now.

Listen, in the general public consensus, for all intents and purposes Dune is "just another blockbuster movie". its aesthetic trappings very much project a facsimile of your standard hero's journey monomyth. That is just inarguable fact, right? Lanky ass dude gets literally "chosen" and put on a prepared path to messianic glory against his will; his eventual acceptance of that mantle is the entire conflict of dune 1. he ends it by finally heading "into the desert". SUPER shitty optics when you discern the geopolitical allegory of it all, but also the music swells and the short-term pieces of the conflict are set in very black-and-white shades so like. The surface-level plot motions have been fulfilled in very traditional ways. Most young boys won't look further.

There is some lip service hinting at a darker destiny with his visions and his mom's turmoil, but that very much isn't the central POV of the storytelling. And there wasn't a lot of fremen empathy packaged into the ideation either, at least to my eyes; his father's ethos was considered the kind one. and he simply chose to follow it. the rest - all the fucked up implications you mention - are just seedlings for later payoffs. HOPEFULLY.

even the books sort-of interrogate the manifest destiny bullshit much later, when his crusade grows beyond his control and becomes genuine nightmare stuff. again, all of this despite the writing always being on the wall from day one, I don't disagree with that.

I just find it fascinating how well Dune wears both the monomyth and the summer blockbuster coats on its shoulders. I hope that it doesn't buckle to their demands and actually gets to the heart of the issue without too much undue pathos. And that's the mystery of it all for me; so far, the first film is set up to go either direction tbh, and I am very curious to see how it all unfolds. Ergo, your potential fight club 2.0 cocktail mix. It's all just very interesting.

One of the things I wanted to get across with my post regarding dopamine and AO3 (that others have rightly pointed out is true of any social media with notifs) is that it is natural to sometimes experience deeply negative emotions after posting art or fiction (or anything) online and waiting for reactions.

I don't mean this in a "your feelings are valid" kind of way. They are, but there is also a neurochemical basis that drives these feelings under specific situations. Not everyone will be susceptible to these deeply negative emotions, but for those who are, it's not a weakness of character or a moral failing to fall into these negative and hurtful cycles. It's a natural documented pattern in human brains.

It is also a cycle that can be broken. The problem, for some, is that the cycle by its nature makes people not want to break it.

Some have pointed out on my posts that they like the dopamine rush of getting comments. They want it. It feels good. It makes them happy.

Well, yeah. That's the whole point. When you get attention, it feels good. How good it feels is going to depend on a lot of stuff, so it's not going to hit everyone the same. The problem is when you are expecting that good feeling and it doesn't come.

For some, it's okay. NBD. Keep checking that stats page because it isn't affecting your self esteem or ability to engage with your friends and hobbies. Enjoy!

And for some, it feels terrible. Just awful. It can cause self-doubt, it can make you lash out at your friends, it can make you hate the hobby you enjoyed up until a minute ago. It can plunge you into anxiety.

I think most people would say rationally that the good-feelings rush of getting a little notification is not worth a day spent tearing yourself down and feeling just horrible the entire time. However, when you are feeling horrible, that little notification can be the one thing that feels good. So why would you get rid of the one thing that makes you feel better?

A lot of people in my notes have said that they stopped AO3 emails, instagram notifications, or tumblr push notifs, etc, and after a week or two they felt so much better. It works.

You can block your stats page. You can get a separate email address so that the emails don't pop up on your phone. You can silence things. And while you might miss those little rushes, over time your overall mood can improve and stabilize. It works. It sucks, but it works, and then it doesn't suck so bad.

So please just do what works for you and take care of yourself
