Jungle Action #19 (McGregor/Graham, Jan 1976). T’Challa accompanies his girlfriend Monica home to Georgia, where her family is being harassed by the KKK. It’s shocking to see the actual Klan represented in these pages after stand-ins like the Serpent Society…

Jungle Action #17 (McGregor/Graham, Sept 1975). The dense, intense saga of Panther’s Rage approaches its conclusion. I won’t claim that I enjoyed this — the brutality and breathlessness of McGregor’s writing made this a challenging read! But I’m glad I stuck with it. The first Black Panther movie adapted (and, in my opinion, improved) many elements of this run, and it’s fun seeing how Marvel continually develops and iterates characters like T’Challa.
