The difference in canon vs fanon Tim is insane but have you also considered the difference in how Tim Drake is perceived within canon?

I often hear people claim that Adrien would make a better protagonist. In what ways do you think that would not work? We'd probably understand the other characters less since Adrien interacts with them less due to less free time. Adrien's also usually stuck at home with what is shown onscreen as the rare free time he has, so an Adrien pov show would usually show him at home/work? It would also probably work better for a shorter, more serious show rather than a long comedic series like ML.
(Pt 2) Someone could argue that they could just make Adrien have more free time if it was Adrien-pov, but I'd rather not the show compromise the restrictiveness of Adrien's home life like that. With more "free time" to show him interacting with other characters, his isolation from the rest of the cast because less apparent (Compared to Marinette, which the show can work with what its trying to do because she interacts with many characters and meddles into situations, for better or worse)
=====
I think you have made your points, Anon ^^ I can hardly add anything more.
One argument I have stumbled upon recently in favor of "Adrien should be the protagonist" is that Marinette comes from a loving and caring family and therefore she doesn't have problems 🙃
As if a loving and caring family prevented Marinette to be bullied before the story started, to have little to no friend before meeting Alya and had so much low self-esteem of herself to the point she believed her taking actions would only make things worse. Insecurities which still ressurface from time to time, both as a civilian and as a superheroine. (Pharaoh, Timetagger, Miracle Queen, Furious Fu to name those)
The thing about picking a protagonist isn't about picking who has the most tragic backstory ™ as the main character. It's picking the character you want your audience to experience the story you want to tell.
Also, those people often forget that when Marinette became Ladybug, her life changed too! While Adrien jumped on the occassion to be a superhero with both feet, Marinette was reluctant. She didn't even think herself up to the task put on her shoulders (not as her first mission as LB and not when she became the Guardian).
While Adrien experienced freedom, Marinette became burdened.
After making her first mistake as Ladybug and seeing the consequences of it, she spiraled down. Everything is her fault. She only creates catastrophes. She only makes things worse for everyone. She quits.
She only started to be Ladybug again when she saw she was the only one who could help Alya and Chat Noir.
She chose to become Ladybug. She chose to accept the burden on her own.
Becoming Ladybug has allowed Marinette to face adversities such as bullies (Hawkmoth, Chloé, Lila) or her mistakes. It also allowed her to stand up for herself, to acknowledge her mistakes, to learn from them and to make things right. But it doesn't mean some of her mistakes aren't affecting her on the long run.
Becoming Ladybug allows her to grow and become a better person. She inspires people to do the same (both her classmates and the audience) and that is what we see throughout the show.
But by becoming Ladybug, by accepting to carry the burden, Marinette kept pressuring herself so much that she believes everything rests on her shoulders and her shoulders only. As a result, we have seen she has hard time accepting to delegate and share the burden on the long term because she has to keep things under control. She doesn't allow herself to be vulnerable.
Marinette's creativity is her greatest asset and allows her to find solutions to problems but at the same time, it is also her creativity that leads her to overthink things and imagine the worst case scenario.
Also, because of her background -- because Marinette trusts her parents as well as their advices and their rules -- she more easily believes authority figures like Fu, Bunnyx and Su Han. She thinks outside the box, yet she doesn't question people who have more experience regarding the Miraculous. In fact, she listens and relies on them to guide her. She follows their directions, but doesn't question if those directions actually fits her. So she molds herself and becomes someone she doesn't recognize and she feels like she isn't true to herself anymore.
Marinette wants to be a normal girl with a normal life like she used to be, except her secret forever prevents her to ever be that again. And Marinette is mourning that fact. (Gamer 2.0, Miracle Queen, Gang of Secrets, Rocketear).
Adrien? Adrien, in opposition, never had a normal life. Everything is dictated to him. His schedule, how to pose and behave. You have an emotional burst? Keep it down. Even better, hide it! Bottle those emotions up. You have to keep appearances. No wonder Adrien doesn't know who he is. He always had defined himself through others and what they expected of him. He has never learned to define himself on his own.
As a civilian, Adrien is trapped. Both litterally and figuratively. If he makes a mistake, his father tends to punish him severely, stripping away the little liberty Adrien has as a civil. Chat Noir allows Adrien to break free and more importantly, break free, incognito. But it doesn't solve his problems which all boils down to his father's authority and control. Instead, Adrien runs away from his personal problems and it is not a reproach. Adrien has good reasons to do so as it is how he survives. But it is not healthy nor safe for him on the long run.
Whereas Marinette can make various mistakes and has the power to fix them. In other words, she can confront her mistakes. She is allowed to cope with her different emotions. She has the latitude to do so. She is allowed to make her own choices which will affect her as well as the others.
And the show is centered about emotions because life is filled with them and we grow up to deal with those.
But just because Marinette is the protagonist doesn't mean Adrien is irrelevant as a character. In fact, he is the deuteragonist. The second most important character to follow. The one who foils and complements the protagonist.
Both characters have a story that is being told. Marinette's point of view is favored because it is the one that provide the widest array of possibilities and because Ladybug always find a solution to fix a problem.

hey! how knowledgeable are you on stephanie brown? because i got in a bit of an argument with a dc fan on reddit who claims she's all these awful things, but im still relatively new to steph and i want to see what was true and what wasn't. link to screenie right here: https://ibb.co/vh6CYCJ
these may be matters of opinion, but even then, i'd like to know your take. i haven't read her firsthand often enough and i trust your judgement over this random redditor who seems to have some sort of blonde-woman related trauma left untapped.
I'm not necessarily the most knowledgable on her in the world, but I do know a decent amount because she's one of my absolute faves and I love her
But ohhhh boy that screenshot is a lot.
I will say that several of the things this person brings up are based in canon but are taken in the worst faith and framed in the way that makes her look as bad as possible, if that makes sense? It’s ripping things away from any context, because there's a very clear bias against her here.
I'll go through it point by point under the cut
First of all though before digging into this, I want to make it clear she was a 15 year old for the majority of the things this person is talking about. Like just pause for a second and remember she’s a 15 year old victim of abuse. That is something that I think factors into a lot of her behavior! Anyways, I kinda while doing this got into a ranty 'talking at you' format in response to the person who wrote all that, so don't take any of this as me yelling at you who asked the question/you anyone reading this.
Tumblr media
"She always acted entitled" - Saying Steph is entitled is absolutely ridiculous to me. Stephanie grew up with a very unstable childhood due to her dad frequently being in prison and her mom dealing with a drug addiction, living in a lower class part of the city. Tim is entitled. I don’t mean that as like a bad thing about him, but he is based on his living situation, she is not. She has wanted life to be better for herself and her mom, and is determined about that, but she is not and does not act entitled.
Tumblr media
(Secret Origins 80 Page Giant)
"and stubborn" - I will give you stubborn though, that one is true. She’s stubborn as hell! I don’t really see that as a bad thing though, pretty much every bat is stubborn?
"demanding that Batman and Robin accept her untrained ass" - Steph may have been untrained in fighting but she's shown to have exceptional gymnastics skills from the start, and at one point Bruce even says that with the right training she could be as good if not better than Tim (in Robin #88)! So like... her realizing she enjoys trying to be a hero after she tried it out to deal with her personal business, so she looks to the local experts… and is determined about it… how is that a bad thing? It’s also not like she walked up to them and said ‘im perfect as i am let me in’ what she wanted was a chance to be a hero. But she also wasn't even really looking for approval, either, not having Batman's blessing was never going to stop her. ("So excuse me if I don't jump when you bark, Batman." in Robin #16) Later when Bruce does bring her in to train (and she also gets to train with the BoP) she's excited! She’s stubborn about wanting to be in the hero business, but it’s not like she’s unwilling to work for it.
"advocating leaving criminals to die because they 'deserve it'" - She’s a 15 year old who grew up knowing firsthand how dangerous Gotham criminals can be because of her dad, of course off the bat when they’re in a dangerous situation where any of them could die (because that’s the context here, this is in Robin #35 where they’re trapped in some super dangerous snow) she thinks they shouldn’t go back for another criminal who just tried to kill them and should instead save themselves. But she also literally WITHIN THAT SAME ISSUE then says she realized she learned something after listening to Tim and trying to save the guy! In the same issue! Characters in a story aren’t supposed to be perfect from the start… they learn things along the way???
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Robin #35)
"trying to steal from the shops they just stopped from being burglarized" - She’s 15 and doesn’t have a ton of money. She was gonna take two sodas, and when Tim said not to do it she paid with very little fuss. They stopped people who were robbing the place at gunpoint for prescription drugs. If you can’t understand the difference in severity between those things like… I do not even know where to start. (this situation is in Robin #56 btw)
"forcing physical affection onto Tim despite his visible discomfort and repeated objections (not even stopping when he told her he had a girlfriend)" - This one I will give you because she did cross boundaries with all that! But I do also want to clarify that she didn't start coming onto him until after Tim kissed her first (in Robin #5) while not telling her he had a girlfriend. That doesn’t excuse her later actions but for the first issue that she’s coming onto him from her perspective he expressed interest and she was just returning it! She even specifically says 'Maybe I should pay you back for saving my life the same way you paid me' (in Robin #16) before kissing him. That first time she kissed him unprompted was under essentially the same circumstances he kissed her unprompted, and she literally did not know about Ariana until after the fact. From that point once she knew about Ari she definitely should have backed off and she didn’t, that’s a very fair thing to criticize about her as a character. But Tim lead her on first, and I feel a lot of people like to casually forget that when talking about this situation. The way this is phrased of ‘not even stopping when he told her-‘ implies she was repeatedly doing the bad behavior before he told her, which is not the case. She still did bad things here but don’t misrepresent the situation.
"And lashing out at Tim, her mother, and her classmates in violent fits of anger" - Every comic book character lashes out at other people for the sake of drama like, I dare you to come up with a well-known superhero character who hasn’t done shit like that to a partner/family/friends in a moment of high tension/stress?
Tumblr media
"She treated the girls around her like they were stupid bitches" - frankly this ones a little too vague like, I'm not sure off the top of my head exactly what they're talking about? in that era right around her pregnancy and stuff I really don't recall her being mean with other girls? I could be forgetting something I guess but the closest I can think of is a bit after this period of time when she has the confrontation with Greta in Young Justice but that was Greta attacking her first, not the other way around.
"got insanely jealous if Tim so much as expressed concern about another girl" - Steph getting jealous and thinking Tim was cheating isn’t that crazy when STEPHANIE BASICALLY WAS THE OTHER GIRL DURING TIM’S LAST RELATIONSHIP? Tim has cheated a little bit before! Tim cheated on Ari with both Jubilee from Marvel (during a crossover thing where he even mentions Ari specifically so it’s not like this was out of continuity/a setting she wasn't an issue or something) and also with Steph. While most of the kissing between them was Steph coming onto Tim which I wouldn’t count as cheating on his end, he did still kiss her which I would count. Not to mention that the jealousy thing (I imagine they’re talking about the instance with Star, the girl who taught Tim to skateboard, this arc of stuff starts in Robin #80 and continues for a few issues) is happening during the time she’s dating him while she still doesn’t even know his real name. He literally has a whole other life she doesn’t know about, and is someone who has initiated romantic moments with other girls while in a relationship multiple times before! With that in mind I don’t think a 16 (she's def 16 by this point) year old girl being kinda paranoid about how he interacts with girls he might know in his civilian life is that unreasonable? The later big instance with jealousy is the Darla situation- where Steph sees Darla kiss him and gets mad about it (and doesn’t talk to him about it) and thats what prompts her to become Robin. The important thing to remember about Steph in this time frame is that DC decided she had to die and they wanted to make her Robin first to drum up more attention for that death. They were doing ooc things with her to set those pieces in motion, and that needs to be taken into account. I think her getting upset about seeing something like that isn’t even ooc, but her using it as motivation to become Robin and not even saying anything to him about it is. In the earlier instance where she’s upset/jealous about Star, she does communicate to him what’s going on at least a little bit on the rooftop after they’d saved her. She makes it clear the thing she was upset about is that she feels like she can’t trust him because she doesn’t really know him while he knows everything about her, and that’s why she thinks he’s cheating. Her reaction to the Darla thing is not in line with how earlier in canon Steph would have handled the same situation, because they wanted her to die and needed a way to explain her becoming Robin.
"and expressed that jealousy by accusing him of cheating and throwing things at him" - I just addressed the cheating stuff but the throwing things was fucking slapstick oh my god this is a comic book for kids/teens like. ah yes this is horrible abuse in this little funny montage of how Steph wants him to leave her alone because she’s mad at him and he refuses to give her space
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Robin #82)
Tumblr media
I don’t think anyone at DC or even in fandom would/should try to argue she’s perfect, because she’s not! And I don’t want her to be because perfect characters are boring. Steph is flawed, Steph has been compared in canon to Robin-era Jason by Cass & Bruce
Tumblr media
(Detective Comics #790)
And I think these highlight some of her very real flaws that are an interesting part of her character. These plus her stubbornness and determination are part of what makes her her.
And for fuck's sake the world was mean to her, and to act like it wasn’t is just blatantly ignoring a lot. A criminal father who made her life really difficult (‘when my dad was mad at me he’d lock me in the closet!’), that time she got kidnapped for two weeks and her mom had left her (a 15 year old) alone at home so long she didn't even find out it happened (in text Steph says Crystal was visiting friends, a lot of people interpret that as her mom possibly being in rehab for her addictions again), that whole thing about how one of her dad’s friends tried to sexually assault her as a child, also just how due to her dad's work sometimes criminals would be living in their house (Literally the fucking Riddler at one point!), the fact that we as an audience watched her get tortured for several days because a plan she tried to enact to prove herself backfired since Batman didn’t trust her with important information (something Selina even calls him out on in her internal narration), like… sorry but in what way is all that not the world being mean to her?
She was Robin, she dated Robin, she likes Eggplant (because purple would've looked stupid), and makes jokes. She’s also impulsive, headstrong and determined, and wants to prove to herself and others that she can be more than just the daughter of a shitty criminal, that she can actually be a force to do good in the world.
She’s a complex character, and nobody is required to like her, but to act like she doesn’t have a single redeeming trait is ridiculous. You could write a paragraph like that with the worst moments of basically any character and make them look like shit if that's what you were setting out to do.

My Top 10 Underrated Anime Series
1. Welcome to the NHK
Tumblr media
Plot: The main protagonist is Tatsuhiro Satō, a university dropout entering his fourth year of unemployment. He leads a reclusive life as a hikikomori, ultimately coming to the conclusion that this happened due to some sort of conspiracy. One day just when his life seems entirely unchanging, he meets Misaki Nakahara, a mysterious girl who claims to be able to cure Tatsuhiro of his hikikomori ways. She presents him with a contract basically outlining that once a day they would meet in the evening in a local park where Misaki would lecture to Tatsuhiro in an effort to rid him of his lifestyle. During these outings, many subjects are discussed, though they almost always pertain in some way to psychology or psychoanalysis. One of their first meetings in fact deals with interpreting Tatsuhiro's recent dreams. Both Tatsuhiro and Misaki, however, have a tendency of over-doing things, such as hiding the truth, especially from each other and themselves. Despite Misaki's offer and pressing attempts at salvation, it is Tatsuhiro's neighbor and high school friend, Kaoru Yamazaki, whom Tatsuhiro often turns to in moments of need and support. Despite his own idiosyncrasies, Yamazaki is one of the more stable characters in the story.
While many may not know about this series, those who do know of its existence can see it’s appeal. This anime shows that some people, like the main character, are shut-in’s due to social anxiety holding them back from living a regular life. The anime deals with subjects such as social anxiety, hiding depression from loved ones, paranoia, and a crippling fear of never being accepted by the outside world.
Throughout the series, Sato tries to go outside more often and is pushed to do this by a high school girl, Misaki, and his old classmate now neighbor, Kaoru. All the while, Sato meets some people from his past who cause him to go down a different path, such as becoming part of a ponzi scheme or joining a suicide group, because they themselves have problems that he unknowingly becomes a part of. This goes to show that if you have struggles with batting depression or have family problems...seek proper help before bringing others down with you.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
2. Tiger & Bunny
Tumblr media
Plot: The series takes place in "NC 1978" in a fictional, re-imagined version of New York City called Stern Bild City, where 45 years before, superpowered individuals known as "NEXT" (an acronym standing for Noted Entities with eXtraordinary Talents) started appearing and some of them became superheroes. Each of the city's most famous superheroes work for a sponsor company and their uniforms also contain advertising for real-life companies. Their heroic activity is broadcast on the popular television show "Hero TV", where they accumulate points for each heroic feat accomplished (arresting criminals or saving civilians, for example) and the best ranked hero of the season is crowned "King of Heroes". The story mainly focuses on veteran hero Kotetsu T. Kaburagi, a.k.a. Wild Tiger, who is assigned a new partner: a young man named Barnaby Brooks, Jr. However, Barnaby and Kotetsu have trouble working together, as they have conflicting opinions on how a superhero should act, while at the same time they are trying to crack the mystery of the murder of Barnaby's parents. In addition, the appearance of a homicidal vigilante NEXT named "Lunatic" stirs up the public and makes them question the place of heroes in the city.
The main heroes, Kotetsu and Barnaby, do not like each other at first...but a strong bond grows between them as they protect the city and help each other from the tragic moments of their pasts. They even help each other with the problems that they face within the series’ current timeline: Kotetsu slowly losing his powers, and Barnaby being manipulated by someone who he thought of like family.
While not as big as My Hero Academia, this series still has lots of good moments, terrific super heroes, and powerful storylines. Tiger & Bunny is definitely worth watching for anyone who loves superheroes and anime.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
3. My Roommate Is A Cat
Tumblr media
Plot: Novelist Subaru Mikazuki, who is shy and not good with other people, and Haru, the cat that has been living a severe stray life. This is a story of them suddenly living together and describes the happiness of living together from both point of views.
This series is definitely underrated. My Roommate is a Cat is filled shows how much of an impact a person...or in this case a cat...can have on a person who has lived a life of solitude and books. The main character, Subaru Mikazuki, begins to slowly open up to those around him thanks to the help of a stray cat: Haru. From Haru’s point of view, Subaru is someone whom she desires to protect and take care of, as she fears that he cannot survive without her. Subaru also comes to term with his parents’ deaths and learns to move past his guilt, and realizes that there are many people who love and care for him.
This series shows that it’s ok to open up to the people around you, and that no one is truly alone.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
4. And Yet The Town Moves
Tumblr media
Plot: Hotori Arashiyama loves mysteries, but there’s one she just can’t solve: why does the solution to one problem inevitably seem to lead to another? Like how when Hotori has to start working at the Seaside Maid Cafe after school to pay off a debt and her friend Toshiko fortunately knows exactly how a Maid Cafe should be run. Which is fortunate since Hotori has no clue. Except that, unfortunately, Toshiko has no interest in working at the cafe—until she discovers that Hotori’s childhood friend Hiroyuki is a regular. Which SEEMS fortunate. Except that Hotori doesn’t know that, while Toshiko likes Hiroyuki, Hiroyuki secretly likes Hotori, while Hotori secretly has a crush on… No, no more spoilers! But if that’s not enough drama, there’s work, angst with a certain math teacher, table tennis between her classmates, her younger brother versus the school’s bad girl… And yet, even though everything seems like it’s going to crash at any moment, somehow Hotori’s life keeps going hilariously forward.
Sure...it doesn’t have sexy and cute maids that most maid-theme anime has... But And Yet The Town Moves is still a series worth watching. The series features cute, slice-of-life storylines filled with antics by the mystery-loving Hotori Arashiyama. Because of her crazy antics and goofy nature, Hotori brings laughter and new experiences to those around her.
If you want an anime featuring klutzy maids and funny slice of life, then And Yet The Town Moves is definitely the right choice.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
5. Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken!
Tumblr media
Plot: Midori Asakusa wants to create an anime, but she's too disheartened to make that first step by herself. By pure chance, she meets Tsubame Mizusaki, an up-and-coming socialite secretly dreaming of becoming an animator. Together with Midori's money-loving best friend Sayaka Kanamori, the energetic trio start the "Eizouken" club and slowly work towards making their "greatest world" a reality.
This anime is truly a one-of-a-kind masterpiece. Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken! has animation that is truly breathtaking and filled with the imaginations of aspiring animators. Throughout the series, our three protagonists: Midori, Sayaki, Tsubame experience the hardships of running their own studio, all the while dealing with the Student Council and School Board who wish to shut down Eizouken. But no matter how hard they try, there is no stopping these three girls from making anime and running their studio.
Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken! has such brilliant animation, creative storylines, and normal looking characters who viewers can relate to. If your dream is to become an animator, than you certainly learn a lot from this series.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
6. Angels of Death
Tumblr media
Plot: 13-year old Rachel awakens to find herself trapped in the basement of an abandoned building. Without any memories, or even a clue as to where she could be, she wanders the building, lost and dizzy. In her search, she comes across a man covered in bandages. He introduces himself as Zack and he wields a grim-reaper like sickle.A strange bond is struck between them, strengthened by strange, crazy promises…These two, trapped in this strange building, don’t know why fate has placed them there. But they will work together desperately to find a way out…
Rachel and Zack are quite an unlikely duo...yet their skills and personalities are what complete each other: Rachel is calm and calculating, while Zack is aggressive and strong. But they have something in common: They both suffered their whole lives, became killers, and being killers is what got them trapped in the mysterious building in the first place. Together, they face various serial killers who want to keep them from escaping: A doctor with an eye fetish, a pumpkin-headed child who wants to bury Rachel in his graveyard, a female-prison warden who’s obsessed with punishing ‘sinners’, and a faithless priest whose goal is to test the faith of those who fall victim to the killers within the building.
Angels of Death is filled with such mystery and psychological thrills. While it is not for the faint of heart...it is definitely for those who wish to find a good psychological thriller to watch.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
7. Zombieland Saga
Tumblr media
Plot: In the year 2008, high school student Sakura Minamoto is abruptly killed by a truck on the morning she plans to submit an idol application. Ten years later, Sakura, along with six "legendary" girls from various eras of Japan's history, are brought back as zombies by a man named Kotaro Tatsumi, who seeks to revitalize Saga Prefecture by putting together an all-zombie idol group known as Franchouchou.
Unlike most ‘pop idol’ anime series, that feature cute girls whose music can save the world...this one features cute girls who are zombies who were brought back to life to save a city as a pop idol group. While it seems unusual, Zombieland Saga shows the viewers all the things that Saga has to offer...because it basically advertises the entire prefecture. The members of Franchouchou: Sakura, Saki, Ai, Junko, Lily, Yugiri, and Tae...are determined to become a great idol group while keeping their true identities a secret. Thanks to their mysterious manager, Kotaro Tatsumi, they are given a second chance at life and learn more about each other...but they also help each other move on from their deaths and give closure to the loved ones that they had to leave behind.
If you are looking for a ‘pop idol girl’ anime that is different from others...then Zombieland Saga is definitely a good choice, as it does differ from the usual plots that anime featuring pop idol groups has.
Tumblr media Tumblr media

Tumblr media
Plot: Set in Ueno. The series follows three elementary school girls, Yui, Sat-chan, and Kotoha, who together form an organization known as "Colors". Together, they perform various deeds and errands to protect the peace in their town.
This series is very adorable and is filled with a lot of hilarity. What makes it hilarious, are the crazy antics of the crybaby Yui, the rambunctious Sat-chan, and the dark-humored Kotoha as they try to help others and maintain the peace in the town that they love so much. They recieve help from local shop owner, Pops, who gives them clues to solve, and are often coming into conflict with police officer Saito, who sees them as nothing but trouble while dealing with their childish antics.

Peter Parker - Autistic Love
Tumblr media
I don’t know where I read that comic! Peter is autistic, and I fell in love with the idea. I think superheroes can also be human, and suffer from this type of conditions. So here it is, my humble fic about Autistic! Peter. Probably is not the best, and I tried to make it as accurate as possible with the little knowledge I have about autism. Enjoy!
Plot: there is something weird about Peter, but that doesn’t make him any less lovable.
Honestly, it wasn’t that noticeable. You couldn’t have known it the first time you met him, neither the second or the third. It took a lot of attention, or in your situation a huge crush, to notice it. The fidgeting when he thought no one was looking, the awkwardness not only around your classmates but also in the supermarket. You had thought that the bouncing movements were because of his anxiety, and that his constant blabbering about nothing was fear of silence. If you thought about it, it was all noticeable, and anyone could have picked up that Peter Parker was different. His classmates thought about him as a strange kid who didn’t have many friends. And it took you longer than what you wanted to admit that it wasn’t the truth.
First time you noticed, was when you were paired up in a mission together. You had to stop a mugging in a central bank, something easy for a boy who could stick to the ceiling and a girl who could control electricity.
“Okay, so, you remember the plan?” you asked softly, hidden in one of the vents conductors. You were ready to step up any second then, the wristbands that prevented you from using your electricity laying in the ground.
Peter was suited up beside you, and when he didn’t answer you turned to look at him. In his hands, laid a small cord of your suit, blue and black. It was hanging loose from your hip, long enough so that Peter could have taken it without realising that it was yours, or for you to notice that he had it. His fingers were twisting and untwisting it quickly, and he was looking ahead of you.
“U-um, Peter?”
Trying to understand what had him looking so concentrated, you looked to where he had his eyes fixed, and saw one of the thieves playing with a gun. He was tapping it on a desk, following some weird rhythm that had him moving his head. The rest of them were taking the money out of the safe-deposit and watching over the hostages, some civilians and two workers. Still, Peter didn’t care about them; only about the slightly misplaced rhythm that was making his head hurt.
You worried that something might had happened to him, so you made your first mistake with the cute brown haired boy; that led you to notice that something was off with him.
“Hey, Peter, I can do it-“
The hand that you had placed on his shoulder was quickly thrown off, and he stumbled away from you. You didn’t have time to think about that, though, because as soon as he moved from his place, the whole structure came crashing down and your cover was blown away.
That day, you finished the work neatly and even got to spend a few hours with Peter watching a film. Though he was distant and reluctant at being close to you. As you went to sleep that night, you wondered if the spider boy had more secrets to hide.
-
After the first time, you found yourself in the same situation more times. It made you wonder if Peter suffered from any type of abuse, but other than the usual teasing at school, you found none. You let it pass by until the second incident happened.
An habit that Peter had that made you wonder if he even wanted to be in the same room as you.
You had just reached the compound after an stressing day in high-school. Probably, it had to do with the fact Peter wasn’t there, and without him you didn’t like listening to boring teachers. The usual smile that you wore came back to your face when you saw him sitting cross legged in front of his notebook.
Tony had told you that the boy wasn’t feeling well, and had decided to stay home for a few days. So, as carefully as you could, you sat on the couch in front of him and called his name.
“Hey Pete” you said, heart jumping when your eyes met. “I-Tony told me that you were sick, and I… was wondering if you felt any better?”
“Yeah” he mumbled, looking back down to his homework. Just then, you noticed the earbuds that were still on. Your frowned when he made no intention of taking them off to keep the conversation with you, but didn’t mind it since you were too excited about finally being with him. A day without Peter was the worst of your pains.
“What are you doing?”
Usually, that question led to a whole speech about chemistry, robotics or whatever he was working on. Peter loved to talk about his homework, even more if the person who was listening showed a real interest; and since Tony pointed that when he noticed your crush on his ‘kid’, you tried to do so. That time, Peter gripped harder his pencil.
“Stuff”
“Oh” you chuckled awkwardly, your smile dropping a bit. “What kind of stuff? I bet really smart one”
Peter didn’t bother to answer that time, only came back to his previous sentence, almost tearing the paper apart with how hard he was pressing the pencil on it. It was silent for a second until you realised he wasn’t answering you question. Moving your disappointment to the back of your mind, you tried again.
“School was boring without you” you told him. “I’m trying to finish the physics project on my own, but I don’t really understand the entropy or the microstates of it. Maybe you could help me? I’ve tried with Ned, but he’s as clueless as I am, so…”
In Peter’s brain, your words were nothing but a distant and annoying buzz. He had stayed in the compound because his senses had gone mad the previous night. He had begged Tony not to tell you anything, too embarrassed for not being able to function properly. Only imagining you looking at him with a frown and backing away like everyone did made his anxiety worse, and he found himself opening and closing his hands.
He knew that he should have just taken the object that he so carefully hid on his pencil case; once again, you were there and he was too embarrassed about it. So he tried to control himself until it was too much, and he screwed it even though he didn’t want to.
“Shut up!” Peter shouted when you let out a loud laugh, his hands flying to his hair and tugging sharply. His eyes became glossy and he wished he was back in his room.
“Yeah” was all you could say, too astonished. “Yeah, I’m sorry, I was just excited because I didn’t see you today and-“
You hadn’t seen Peter move so fast in his life. The pencil fell to the floor with a thud and his feet touched the ground a second after, running out of the living room without looking back. The sound of his door closing took you out of your haze, and you couldn’t stop the lump in your throat.
The first tear rolled down your cheek as you were sitting in the couch, and by the time you were buried under the safety of your covers, you had no more tears to share.
-
The third time something like that happened was on your first ‘date’. Actually, you had just gotten your first salary with the avengers work and you both wanted to do something together. Actually, you wanted to do something together with him, and he just nodded along, too shy to even give you a verbal response. Happy had been in charge of driving you to the restaurant you had chosen for the night.
“…and Clint said he was coming too, so it seems like a good idea to me” Peter finished, his hands fidgeting on his lap. “Natasha said that-“
“Peter, we’ve-“
“-it’s not that good, because they might pull pranks at me. I don’t really know what a prank is. What is a prank? Whatever, it can’t be something that bad to-“
“Hey kid-“
“-cancel the beach day. I’m pretty excited. I’ve never been into a private beach, did you know that? Or a beach, matter of a fact.”
“Peter, we’re here”
“But I’ve seen the commercials, with the pictures and all, so I guess it’s good.”
Peter kept talking about the beach and how amazing it would be to spend a whole weekend there. Meanwhile, you tried to catch his attention two times more, and even Happy rolled down the window that kept him on the front. It had been more than five minutes since the car stopped in front of the restaurant, but Peter didn’t seem to notice it; neither your attempts to talk to him.
He was rocking slightly side to side in a slow and steady movement, muttering more than talking.
It took you, exactly, fifteen minutes and five seconds to get him to realize of his surroundings. Once he did, he muttered a quick apologize and got out of the car, urging you to do the same.
The date went well. You had fun, Peter had fun and you decided that you liked the boy even more. Still, the always doubt that you were missing something with him lingered in your mind.
There were also weird things about Peter Parker that didn’t involve you. As his old mask, that was mostly black and impossible to see with. The team found it weird that Peter wore it sometimes around the compound, hearing and seeing them perfectly but preferring the comfort that came with it. Or his completely clueless behaviour with the sarcasm. You had seen him start crying because of a silly comment about how you wished a bus would ran you over; or how he actually shut up when you told him Shut up, you’re kidding!
Sure, you had the facts. You knew that Peter had to drink the same orange juice every morning, with the blue straw. That, in the common room, he had is spot saved every night with a certain cushion. And you had also noticed the small objects that you seemed to find every time you walked in a room. Peter Parker was a brilliant kid; smart, handsome and cute, not to mention that he could sweep any girl off her feet. In your eyes, he was perfect; so you didn’t understand why he asked if you were sure about hanging out with him every two hours, why he slept in the right side of the bed with his pinky finger extended towards the door, and why it took you so long to realise that the love Peter Parker was giving you was the most special one.
Until one day, he just blurted it out.
-
“I’m autistic”
If you hadn’t been sitting close to him, you probably wouldn’t have heard him. Contact was something you had worked with him over the past months, to the point you could sit beside him and, if he felt like it, Peter would let you rest your head on your shoulder. That was how you were sitting in that moment, both of you watching a documentary of space while eating blueberries.
It was as if the puzzle of Peter Parker was finally complete, and you couldn’t be surprised. Everything came into place with those words, every detail that made him the way he was. You didn’t tear your eyes from the TV, just made the risky move to link one of your hand through his arm.
He tensed, you heard his breathing fastening, but didn’t push you away. Instead, he slumped down and relaxed in way you had never seen. A shy hand made its way to yours, and he gripped one of your fingers. You had to keep down your smile not to scare him away, but Peter didn’t seem to have any problem.
“You’re – you’re not gonna say anything?” he talked again, and his voice was much less lower.
“No”
You didn’t know how to act around him most of the times, but it seemed that you had gotten the right answer, because Peter surprised you by pressing his lips against your line of hair. It was you who stopped breathing then, and Peter chuckled. Probably, it was the most intimate moment you had ever had since you had known him.
“I think I love you”
You looked up and found Peter already looking at you. He wasn’t avoiding eye contact like usually, but looking right into your eyes, even if that had him blushing. You didn’t have to look to know that his left hand, the one that wasn’t gripping yours, was tapping in a certain rhythm on his knee, or that inside his head he was repeating the every digit of the number pi to calm down.
Your relationship with Peter wasn’t going to be a normal one, that was for sure. He didn’t like touching or kissing, even if he made the exception every once in a while for you. You couldn’t leave the Tower without at least three of his ‘toys’, because he could break down in an overcrowded place and you could lost him. And you had to learn how to cook in a certain way if you wanted Peter to eat whatever you made.
But, Peter was a superhero, so it was never meant to be a normal relationship. He wore a spandex suit and could attach to walls. Threw webs and swung from place to place when he was bored. And, most important, he opened to you when every cell of his body was screaming at him.
You took another risk, because you thought that another more was alright. Leaning forward, you caught his lips against yours in a small kiss. Peter gasped, his eyes became wide and hand stopped moving.
“I know I love you”
Peter didn’t have to think twice, and leaned in for another kiss.

day 13 - flower crown
like a petal on a stream, a feather in the air.
tumblr month: @marichatmay links: ao3 | ff.net
“Is Marinette okay?”
Adrien looked over at his groupmate with worry, as he noticed the girl hurriedly walked over to what he assumed was a nearby bathroom.
Alya had the same level of concern, as she only offered the boy a sympathetic smile. “It’s nothing, she’s really just not good with these kinds of places.” She frowned, confusedly braiding the stems together. “Ugh, how do you do this?!”
“What do you mean?” Adrien prodded, only growing even more worried. He wasn’t sure why here, of all places, would make anyone uncomfortable, finding for himself the place quite beautiful and refreshing.
The place in question being the local greenhouse and conservatory, some distance away from their school.
Miss Bustier decided that it would be a good place to have a field trip, since their class was currently learning about nature and botany. Everyone, of course, was excited— save for their class representative, who looked less than happy over the choice.
Adrien originally thought that maybe he’d imagined it, but was finally convinced by her behavior once they arrived. She couldn’t really hide it that well, after all.
He sighed, reaching over to get Alya’s flowers. The girl in question raised an eyebrow, and he shrugged. For some reason, he was pretty amazing at making flower crowns.
In response, Alya tilted her head, pursing her lips in thought. “I’m not really sure,” she finally replied. “She just tends to avoid super forested areas? But I know she loves flowers and nature, so it’s probably not that.” Alya suddenly shivered, feeling a grasshopper jump onto her shoulder. “Maybe it’s the insects? I know I’m not a fan of all these creepy-crawlies all over my business.”
Still noticing his worried look, Alya put a comforting hand on his shoulder. “Don’t worry, Adrien. She just needs a minute, and she’ll be back. She’s not the type to just leave us hanging!”
He was about to respond, until Miss Bustier’s voice cut through the garden. “Everyone who’s done with their flower crowns can come with me to the butterfly conservatory!”
The two stared at each other for a moment, before Adrien spoke up. “I’ll wait for her; she might not have heard Miss Bustier from the bathroom.”
Alya only took a moment before nodding, running after the rest of their classmates to catch up.
As soon as she left, Adrien took his flower crown and immediately went to one of the empty sheds, calling out his kwami.
“Adrien?” He asked, confusion on his face. “What are you doing?”
“I need Chat Noir.” He simply stated.
“Why? There aren’t any akumas here.”
Adrien faced his kwami, the concern evident on his features. “It’s Marinette.” He finally shared. “I’m worried about her.”
“Then why not just talk to her as Adrien?” Plagg pressed him. “I don’t understand why you have to transform.”
He sighed. “It’s just… Marinette’s still awkward around me. Adrien me, at least. But Chat, she’s much more comfortable with. Maybe she’d be more willing to talk to him.”
Plagg narrowed his eyes. “You know, the miraculous shouldn’t be used for personal purposes or to flirt with your crush, right?”
Adrien turned red. “I don’t have a crush on her!” He protested, immediately shaking his head. “This is just friendship concern. And just think of it as me trying to avoid the possibility that she’ll be akumatized. Precautionary measures”, he pointed out.
“I still don’t think—”
“Sorry what I didn’t hear you, did you say go for it? I’m assuming yes! Okay... Plagg, claws out!”
“Adrien, wai—!”
The bright glow of a transformation filled the area, as the hero began to stealthily make his way to the bathrooms: only to find an all-too-familiar girl run into the very shed he was already inside.
The warm push of her body sent them both tumbling inside, his crown falling out of his hand.
“Ack! I’m so sorry, I— Chat?”
Marinette held her head, finding that she was sitting right on top of her unknowing superhero partner.
He smiled sheepishly— awkwardly. “Marinette!” He started. “What are you doing here?”
She stared, suspicion on her features. “I’m on a field trip.” She finally responded, suddenly pulling up the hero by his bell. “The more accurate question is, why are you here?”
Chat Noir felt himself sweat, immediately rattling off an excuse. “I heard that an akuma was here, somewhere, so I came to check it out!” He began. “But everything seems fine, so I was just planning to leave! Everyone seems to love it here?”
Marinette stared for another moment, before sighing and letting him go. “Not everyone,” she muttered, getting up to sit next to him.
At that, the concern returned to Chat Noir’s face full force. “You’re not okay?” At her doubtful look, the hero continued. “If you want to talk, of course. I’m ready to listen.”
Against herself, Marinette found a smile form in her face. “Thanks, Chat.” She finally stated, another sigh escaping her lips. “It’s just… I’m not great with these places.”
“I’m not great with dark sheds, either.” He joked, before immediately shutting up at her pointed look. “You’re more of an indoors person, then?”
“It’s not like that,” Marinette protested, shaking her head. “I’m not great with… what comes with that territory.”
Chat Noir knitted his eyebrows, before recalling what Alya had told him previously. “Oh, not a fan of insects, then?”
Marinette sighed. “Well, I guess that’s somewhat right.” She paused, a look of pain flashing in her eyes before disappearing almost immediately. “I’m not that great with butterflies.” The girl finally confessed, hugging her knees to her chest.
Chat Noir could already tell where this was going.
“It’s definitely not a big deal!” Marinette was quick to amend, shaking her head. “I just can’t stand them now… with all the akumas and everything, sometimes it’s hard for me to tell the difference…” she winced, as if her body recalled the sensation of something terrifying. “I can’t help but wonder if they’re here to akumatize me or my friends, and that feeling just doesn’t go away no matter how hard I try.”
Against her will, Marinette felt tears welling up in her eyes, and it broke Chat Noir’s heart to see it.
He typically underestimated how damaging Hawkmoth could be; not just physically, but mentally. It must’ve been difficult to see her friends get akumatized; or even to have the fear of being akumatized yourself— to have to be so careful not to feel any negativity else you become villainized and cause more damage than what was already done.
It was difficult for him, too (and he couldn’t even begin to imagine how he could have coped without Ladybug’s presence).
Wordlessly, he pulled her over to him in a sudden hug, much to the girl’s surprise.
“Hawkmoth is a total d-word, isn’t he?” Chat Noir finally stated, earning surprised laughter from his friend.
“He really is,” she muttered into his chest, finally laying her head on his body.
Chat Noir smiled, one hand comfortingly rubbing at her back, the other on the ground; noticing a familiar item sitting next to him.
Suddenly, he grabbed it and put it on his partner: who was all too shocked with the sudden weight on her head.
She sneezed, moving her hand to feel the strange object.
“Chat? What’s this?”
“I found it lying around,” he lied. “It’s a flower crown.”
She laughed, then shook her head. “And what’s it for?”
“As long as you wear it, you’ll be safe from Hawkmoth.” Chat stated, ignoring the disbelieving look of his partner. “Because I’ll always be here to protect you.” He continued, smiling softly. “I– me and Ladybug, will always foil his plans; we’ll never let him take our miraculous and over Paris.”
Marinette smiled, about to respond until the all-too-familiar voice of her friend pierced the area. “Mari… where are you!?”
They both paused, Chat Noir abruptly standing up and scratching his head. “Well!” He laughed, awkwardly. “Guess that’s my cue to leave.”
He smiled, bowing down to kiss her hand, then saluting before he ran out. “See you, Marinette!”
———
Marinette waved absentmindedly, before stepping out of the shed. She smiled, recalling how goofy and kind Chat Noir was— not just to Ladybug, but even to Marinette (who, as far as he was concerned, was just another civilian). She found herself absurdly happy, taking the flower crown down to look at it with her own hands.
Red roses, dark blue irises, and light blue hydrangeas… it was a unique choice, but it was beautiful.
“There you are!” Alya suddenly cried, running over to her best friend. “I thought you went to the bathroom!”
Marinette looked away awkwardly. “I– uh— took a detour.”
Alya folded her arms, disbelieving, before she noticed the crown carefully held by her friend. “Oh, where’s Adrien?”
“What?”
She smiled, almost smug. “He was waiting for you.”
“I haven’t seen him anywhere. Maybe he’s still making flower crowns?”
Alya scoffed. “Yeah, sure.” She nudged her arm towards the item in her hand. “And that’s not his flower crown, somebody else just made one exactly like it.”
Marinette looked at her in confusion, immediately shaking her head. “No, this was given to me by—“
And suddenly it clicked.
Chat Noir suspiciously being in the greenhouse. Chat Noir being unnecessarily worried about her. Chat Noir, who had a flower crown that was exclusively and uniquely made by her long-time crush and arguable love of her life…

Aaaaaaaaaaa
I’ve got some words so if you don’t want to hear them I’ll be putting in a read more later.
I’ve seen some complaints circulating around about miraculous, unsurprisingly, but one caught me off guard.
Apparently, some fans that don’t like Marinette think that there is a double standard in the fact the a lot of fans encourage Marinette to find someone else, while chastising adrien for doing the same.
First, I’ve heard the exact same complaint mounted towards people encouraging adrien and being salty about Marinette, so, there’s that.
Second, this is... wrong? I’ve seen about the same amount of support and salt regarding both Marinette’s and Adrien’s pursuit of others. If you follow particular people or particular tags, you’re bound to encounter disproportionate amounts of each (I’ve tried really hard to keep my feed rather balanced in most regards to all subjects, just because bias can easily lead to misinformation). So, if you think that you’re encountering a lot of adrien salt/Marinette support and it upsets you, check and see if someone you’re following reblogs a lot of it and unfollow? Or block the tag they use or whatever.
Anyways! My thoughts, on this matter, are most definitely swayed by my interpretation and my opinion. So, I advise you to keep that in mind.
Between Adrien and Marinette, i do think Adrien deserves a bit more scorn than Marinette for his behavior. To be fair, they are both teenagers and learning how to express their feelings and understand them, so their behavior is understandable. But understandable is different from excusable.
To put my mindset into a better frame of reference, I’ll explain, separately. Marinette is a 14 year old girl, in something similar to junior high (my attempts to understand the French school system have been.... less that successful). She’s reached a point where emotions get hard. She met a boy who completely took her off guard with his earnest attitude and overall personality. Marinette is known for feeling incredibly strongly about a lot of things, and can be a bit impulsive at times. She’s also got a strong sense of self, but can be incredibly impressionable at times (the characterization of Marinette flipping back and forth between impressionable and independent is a consistent pattern, despite the overwhelmingly contradictory nature of the pattern). Her emotions tend to get in the way, even in her own opinion, which is one of the reasons she’s so dedicated to the professional nature of her interactions as ladybug. She has, kindly, considerately, and patiently turned her partner down, not because she doesn’t like him, but because she likes someone else more, and has the emotional capacity to priorize her affections while simultaneously not wanting to distract herself from her mission in bringing down hawkmoth and protecting Paris. However, after repeated failed confession and date attempts, and seeing the boy she loves go out with someone else and assume said date went well, she can only really take so much emotionally. And here is another boy, with similar interests who’s never been anything but kind, and she doesn’t even have to tell him that she likes someone else, he noticed, and he wanted her to be happy, so he encouraged her to be with someone else. And he later confessed his own feelings, all while being clear that it would be her choice to be with him if she wanted, which is a starkingly contrast reaction to the passive aggressive and bitter behavior of her crime fighting partner. At this point, she’s been disappointed repeatedly by adrien, chat -in addition to being unreasonable (yes, I’ll explain after)- has flat out turned her down as her civilian self because of his love for her masked self, which is probably not a good feeling (he could have said it was because a hero could not date a civilian, or even just said he didn’t feel the same but he went as far as to say that he loved another person and not her).
Additionally, up until recently, Marinette has been bolstered by her friends and family, and adrien hasn’t outright turned her down (as far as she knows). Remember, being impressionable is something she is known for. Her dedication to her feelings for adrien is a bit.... icky, but that’s why I think the introduction of luka is a good thing. He’s got some qualities in common with adrien, which makes it even clearer why Marinette liked adrien so much to begin with. It also puts an axe into the “she likes him because he’s famous/connected to her favorite designer” angle that some people still try to use because luka isn’t really either. The idea of her dedication to adrien being broken down and rebuilt into something healthy when she eventually goes back to him at the end is fine by me.
So honestly, if Marinette decides to spare herself anymore pain with adrien for a while and try dating a nice boy who actually likes her back, I would be neither upset nor surprised. It would be a good arc too, emotional growth and being able to grow and move on, not to mention realizing what she really wants and having an amicable break up would be a great example for the audience of young soon to start dating peeps.
Adrien on the other hand....
He’s grown up privileged, no matter how sad his childhood is. He’s got a lot of skills and knowledge from being trained by excellent instructors. His story is harder to assess because we don’t know the whole story, just that his mom is gone (for how long? Who knows) and his dad is harsh (and also a super villain but adrien doesn’t know that). He’s at school for the first time sure, so you could somewhat excuse his lack of social experience, but he’s been with the class for a while now. As chat noir, he flirts overtly, a tendency that I kind of believe he picked up from Chloe. Outside his chat persona, he is selectively reserved in an attempt to not be kicked out of school, and attitude that melts away when he is allotted freedom.
As an aside, the fact being that he is a celebrity, I think that’s why his costume is so extensive. Even when he’s wearing a mask he’s still afraid of what could happen if he’s discovered and his father finds out what he’s been up to. All his extras on his costume, plus his ramped up to an eleven joker act as Chat Noir all serve to distance chat noir from the pristine and reserved public figure that is Adrien Agreste.
He decides day two that he loves ladybug, which is fast and strange even for a teenager. Like is one thing but love? It sounds a lot to me like a teenager desperate for something solid who recently lost a significant source of love and affection but that’s just me. On the other hand, it also sounds like he got a very strong feeling that he didn’t know how to identify (likely a combination of admiration and respect) which he mistakenly labeled as love. Also, we know everything Gabriel is doing is in dedication to his wife, so I can only imagine what he was like when she wasn’t dying. So, as far as we know for certain, his role model for the behavior of a male suitor was incredibly (overly) dedicated.
As soon as he decided he loved her, he followed suit and dedicated himself to that idea, so much so that he is in denial about his feelings for others. Normally, I don’t like the denial trope but this is one place where it makes sense a little. One overly dedicated role model (who famously is unaffected by the feelings of his assistant), plus a magic gem that indicates he is two halves of one whole with a magic problem fixing butt kicking superhero would likely lead to a similar problem of overfixation. However, unlike Marinette, he can’t gush with his friends without being dishonest, or accidentally revealing himself. He has no one to be honest with, or to encourage him directly except for Marinette (who had the right energy, but helped with kagami) and kagami (who he could be honest with to a point, but she misunderstood and also encouraged him to pursue someone else).
His idea of romance is dedication and extravagance, which is fine. However, as we’ve all seen, he does not take rejection well. Which is where my sympathy for him dies a little. He is bitter and immature, and while he eventually pulls himself together, he just goes back to flirting and forcing his affections on her.
As we move farther and farther into the series, I’ve also realized he’s incredibly selfish. It’s something I didn’t quite grasp at first and was willing to write off as teenager behavior, but it’s not just that. His attitude towards Marinette and Lila speaks volumes, as he prioritized a lack of conflict over Marinette’s obvious distress and the eventual anguish of his classmates, because he doesn’t like conflict, which is selfish no matter how much traumatic childhood you throw in there. His attitude towards Chloe was always hard to explain, however Chloe is a constant in his life and in order to completely tell her off he would probably have to run the risk of losing her, which is something he wouldn’t do if he was, well, selfish. It’s understandable, and putting ones self first isn’t always a bad thing. But there are limits, where it stops being understandable and starts being a bad thing. He took Kagami out without much thought of how she would feel if he decided not to go back to her, and continues to disregard feelings left and right for his own purpose.
Lastly, and most importantly. His moment with Kagami, and the rejection of the fist bump. at first, it was a sort of nice moment, and also a little sad. Marinette’s own insecurity relating to Kagami came through, first Kagami got adrien and now she might lose chat as well. She came over to fist bump, almost out of desperation. It was a nice reflection of her own feelings for chat that she beats down out of duty.
However, then Adrien did what he does best. He was petty. She didn’t want him, so he was going to flat out ignore their ritual for someone else. It was passive aggressive and inconsiderate, in the same way that his reaction to the oblivio kiss was. He assumed ladybug fell for him, completely ignoring 100 other possibilities and ignoring ladybug’s obvious distress in favor of his own interests (ring any bells?).
So, long story short, Marinette’s own insecurity and emotions would probably push her towards luka, who she gets along well with and probably wouldn’t mind dating. On the other hand, Adrien moves to Kagami out of pettiness and convenience.
Adrien isn’t getting what he wants so he acts petty in front of ladybug. Aside from that, Kagami seems like a convenience. He gets along with her, sure, but he only ever seems to move towards her romantically when he isn’t getting his way with ladybug. Outside of that it’s just him being kind, and ending up with her at places because of things his father signed him up for (voicing chat and the party following could only have been because of Gabriel, being on the train in the first place with Gabriel, even fencing is something he was put in, which is a tad suspicious considering Gabriel’s chats with Kagami’s mother). I’m not surprised if he was her friend, like the way that Marinette and luka are already friends.
That being said, when Marinette moves towards Luka romantically, it seems to be because of the two of them, either Marinette’s appreciation or Luka’s kindness and the time they voluntarily spend together culminates in them getting closer. Adrien’s affections for Kagami seem inspired by a natural feeling, however they only really show when he is being blatantly turned down by Ladybug or in order to spite her, and the time they spend together, while occasionally endearing, feels orchestrated by outside forces, which Adrien undoubtedly has little say in.
It’s a bit hard to explain. I have no doubt that he enjoys spending time with Kagami, however it feels as if his attitude towards her is passive. He ends up with her a lot because of things he’s signed up for, and he’s been corralled towards her by similar activities. If he wasn’t so bound by schedules, and she was just a regular classmate I have to wonder if she’d have caught his eyes at all (and in my opinion Kagami deserves better than that).
Also, she does, in many ways, look like ladybug, and has a similar can do serious attitude, plus she’s constantly wearing red. It’s a bit of a stretch, but I don’t like the idea of Adrien being okay with Kagami because she’s a suitable stand in for the actual object of his affections, ladybug.
So! That’s all my thoughts I think. I’m okay with Marinette pursuing other people because I can see an emotional and earnest reason for her to want to move on. Adrien on the other hand, I do think it would be okay for him to date other people, but the fact that he went with someone who was more of a convenient ladybug stand in that he was (theoretically) subtly pushed towards, all the while maintaining his serious pursuit of ladybug is less okay with me.
On a lighter note, to alleviate tension, I was very frustrated while typing this because Kagami kept autocorrecting to Alabama, a word I have never typed in my life, leading to a confusion and sadness and frustration smoothie.

There are two OCs I have that I like very much but don’t include in my OC squad posts
They come from an online roleplay that nopony’s made any more posts or comments on in months now. I haven’t gotten to really do anything with them, but I find them very fascinating.
The roleplay is set in a school for superheroes and supervillains in training. One of my characters is a hero, the other’s a villain.
The hero character’s civilian name is Carol-Caitlyn Fletcher. Called C.C. for short.
Tumblr media
She’s a generally cheerful and perky and optimistic person. She’s fairly enegertic, kinda goofy, kinda awkward, a little over-excitable, and super pumped for this whole superhero gig. She’s also really into art. Super good at drawing, carries her sketchbook and colored pencils with her everywhere. Also likes to sing. She’s good at that too.
Her powers include firing power blasts from her fists, and sprouting wings so she can fly, along with a unicorn horn that allows for telekinesis. They get a little hard for her to control when she’s excited or upset, and that’s been known to happen fairly often. Like, she’s super excited or super freaked out about something, and as she’s pacing the room chattering away about it, her unicorn horn appears and makes things just randomly float. Or she’s really mad at somepony and accidentally sends an energy blast through the wall or makes a dozen books float and then go zooming at the person she’s mad at.
But she does get pretty good at using her powers, and takes pretty naturally to being a superhero. I imagine her on her first time out there stopping crime, and every time after that, totally killing it out there and having tons of fun doing it. I picture her being the kind of superhero to cheerfully joke around and tease the bad guys as she’s apprehending them, and try to come up with oneliners on the go, commenting on each one to herself (”nah, that’s not it” or “hmm, I like it, but not quite” or “heyyy, that was pretty good! I gotta remember that one...”), and of course have the classic big-smile “I’m just happy to help” response to being thanked. Y’know.
Her superhero name is Mitochondria. (Because “powerhouse of the cell...” get it?...... I’ll... I’ll see myself out...)
Tumblr media
Now, my villain character is named Jasper Lukas Von Rosenberg.
Tumblr media
He has no superpowers, he’s the kind of villain who makes up for that with genius brains and dramatic flair.
He’s into all the classic villain shtick. Any day-to-day supervillain scheme you’ve heard of, like robbing museums or bank vaults or kidnapping somepony important or zapping people with ray guns that have all kinds of effects on them, plus having an evil lair full of machines and crocodile pits and stuff, and making dramatic entrances, giving villainous monologues, villain musical numbers even. Yes, he very much enjoys all of that. And in day-to-day life in school, he’ll be the one pulling fire alarms, starting food fights, pranking people, all that jazz..
The catch is he’s got no backstory or bigger plans motivating him for this. He doesn’t have a vendetta against anything or anyone in particular, and he doesn’t want to, like, take over the world or anything. Just things like this are good enough for him. He does it because to him, it’s all just fun. Heck, if he steals priceless artifacts from a museum or something, he's just gonna juggle them and play with them, and if he’s zapping people with a ray that turns them into cats, he just thinks it’s funny to see them turn into cats and see more people run and panic. He doesn’t even care if he loses, just as long as he gets to play the game again another day.
He’s not even a bad person, really. He’s got good manners and basic human decency. He’d attempt to comfort somepony he knew if he found them crying when they were going through some hard stuff in their life. He’d be fine temporarily teaming up with the good guys against some bigger enemy that’s out to destroy the world, then going back to his usual stuff once they’re beaten. He probably KNOWS he could very well just be a good guy full-time. He just figures, where’s the fun in that?
Oh, and his villain name is Count Jokester. (oh, how he loves the sound of “Count.”)
Tumblr media
I imagine that over time C.C. and Jasper (as their civilian identities in school) occasionally talk to each other, bit by bit come to enjoy each other’s company more and more, and develop a sort of friendship. Of course they do have some...differences of beliefs in what’s morally acceptable for a person to do and what’s not, and what kinds of rules should be broken and what kinds they’d rather follow, with Jasper’s guidelines for these things being somewhat looser than C.C.’s. And they get into debates over that. But it’s still generally light and they respect each other’s choices.
I also imagine that as superhero and supervillain they get pitted against each other kind of a lot, but they both really enjoy their fights, and come to respect each other for being good at fighting and outsmarting each other and witty banter as well. So they’re kind of friends in that too. Frenemies. Kind of like Perry the Platypus and Dr. Doofenshmirtz in a way.
They’ll probably team up (along with some more of their classmates) against a bigger threat for a while at some point in the roleplay.
Also, at some point they probably figure out each other’s secret identities, and neither is too surprised really, given both of their super-selves look and act fairly similar to their civilian selves, and this knowledge doesn’t have much of an impact on their relationship.
Occasionally I like to imagine at least one of them starting to have a mild crush on the other eventually. But I don’t know if I’d actually write about that, partly because I like them a lot as friends/frenemies, and partly because I don’t know where I would really GO with it if any other kinds of feelings happened. The idea of them actually having a romantic relationship just doesn’t feel right to me somehow. And I’m too aroace to know how to write romance anyway.
I do kind of enjoy the idea of each of them eventually just starting to silently have the crushy-blushy thoughts a little and just...acknowledging internally that okay, MAYBE they like this person, but they’re not really interested in telling them or in actually having a relationship like that. Like, maybe they’re lithromantic? I dunno. I also enjoy how Jasper would definitely start to enjoy flirting a lot, so I can just picture him doing that all the time and C.C. just kind of rolling her eyes and smirking (or either making a snarky comeback or ignoring it if they’re in the middle of a fight). But, again, I don’t know if I’ll write this in because I also really like the idea of it just being 100% platonic.
I hope the person who created the roleplay I made these two characters for starts it up again so I can actually have a set place to play around with these two. I’m just itching to do something with them.

Queen Cobra - chapter 2
Yes this is a continuation of the snake miraculous hero Alix fic. There is Rich Kid Friendship. Lots.
Also on AO3 as always
Queen Cobra did not stop going on patrols. After all, Hawk Moth may have been caught, but that didn’t mean crime in the city was just going to stop overnight. She had hoped Ladybug and Rena would join her, but so far she hadn’t seen either of them. Trying to call them up didn’t seem to make any difference. Maybe they really had stopped. Hopefully not, though… it was a bit lonely on the rooftops with no one else around but the pigeons.
She checked the Snakeboards on the little screen near the tip of her tail, seeing if there were any emergencies people were posting about that needed dealing with. It didn’t look like it. Well, it wasn’t like people used the Snakeboards much anyway, instead preferring to talk about the other heroes on the other parts of the Ladyblog forums. She was already used to having to trawl through the city herself, looking for crime the old-fashioned way.
Still no sight of Ladybug or Rena. Those two had always taken patrols together, so maybe she just kept missing them or something? She didn’t know their schedule. Partially because she had never bothered to find out. Yeah, she was starting to regret that a bit. Putting on the “aloof” act all the time was maybe not always such a good idea, especially when it came to her own (rather friendly) teammates.
It was late in the evening now. Usually during the daytime her large cobra hood could keep the sun out of her eyes but now that it was low in the sky, no such luck. She turned to face the other direction instead – and caught the Agreste mansion within her view.
Ladybug’s special powers had fixed all its damage the other day so it didn’t look any different from usual on the outside. Still the same large building, the big imposing front gates, the huge courtyard it overlooked. Inside, on the other hand, things for the occupants must be very different indeed.
Queen Cobra glanced at the phone on the end of her tail again, feeling somewhat guilty. Adrien had indeed tried to call her once in the past few days. She had just ignored it. After that he hadn’t tried again, and he hadn’t sent any messages either.
Well… maybe he was just being polite. Wanted to thank her for the other day, or something like that. Or maybe he just had more superhero questions that he wanted answers to. (In which case he could easily just go and ask Master Fu, duh.) Hopefully he didn’t want support or anything. Nah, he would have called Nino for that instead, right? Nino was good at that kind of thing. He’d even been akumatized for Adrien. So that phone call, that must have been for something relatively unimportant, and it wasn’t a bad thing that she ignored it. Phew.
It was getting late, she should probably get home before her dad realized she was missing and she got into trouble, as always. Ever since her birthday, the amount of trouble she managed to get into had somehow increased exponentially, and it was a lot harder to be a superhero when she was grounded.
She turned back towards the sun to leave…
That missed call just came straight back to mind. What if it had been for something serious? It wasn’t even that she had missed the call, she could easily have answered it. She’d just straight-up turned her phone onto silent and pretended she hadn’t even heard it. Having to have a Meaningful Conversation with a distraught person was one of her least favourite things, thank you very much. So she had just avoided it without even thinking it through.
Oh, why was being a responsible superhero such effort sometimes?
Her conscience got the better of her. (That was probably a good thing really.) Instead of heading back home, she headed towards the Agreste mansion.
She hadn’t been here that often before. There was the whole “defeat Hawk Moth” thing the other day, the time during Christmas when everyone had been invited over, the occasional akuma attack here, such as the Bubbler or Simon Says, and a few times in-between as a civilian for boring stuffy rich people events. It would be weird to visit and know that Gabriel Agreste, aka the world’s most annoying supervillain, was residing in prison rather than in this fortress of a building.
Adrien’s room was one of the windows on the side, she knew that much. Those big evil ones that looked like bars, that made it seem like the poor boy was locked in. Wow, not only was Gabriel a sucky person, he was pretty obviously a sucky father too. Imagine waking up to something as bleak as that every morning.
She used her stretchy prehensile tail to wrap around the railings above the window, then hung upside-down in front of it, tapping on the glass. It was only after seeing Adrien’s expression of shock that she realized that dropping in unannounced, quite literally, was possibly not a great idea. He had been sitting on his sofa and presumably playing video games, but now leapt back in surprise when he saw her, practically falling onto the floor. Whoops.
In any case, once he was over his initial shock, he rather shakily opened the window to let her in. “Queen Cobra? What are you doing here?”
She jumped in through the open window. Standing in front of him as Queen Cobra rather than Alix was nice, since her super skates gave her a bit of added height and she didn’t feel quite so tiny for once. Still pretty short, though.
Noticing that she had been about to put on her normal aloof Queen Cobra voice, she stopped when she remembered that he knew her secret identity. It didn’t matter. She could just be herself.
“Just thought I’d drop by to say hello,” she said.
“Oh, okay… hello.”
Yeah, that had been a lame thing of her to say, and also untrue.
“And also to apologize for leaving so fast the other day,” she carried on. “You probably could have done with a bit more reassurance than a cup of tea.”
He smiled weakly. “Please don’t worry about that, it’s alright, I know that must have been a stressful day for you too. Master Fu was very kind. I made friends with him.”
“Oh, good.”
Now what? She really should have thought about this before she got here. Being polite was boring, small talk was boring, and she didn’t know Adrien well enough for it to be okay for her to make morbid jokes about how he totally had the most emo backstory ever now.
Hmm… maybe attempting to be a comforting friend would be a start. Adrien had always been that kind of person to all his classmates, and he definitely needed someone like that right now, she knew how important it was, remembering how much Jalil’s hugs and kind words meant to her after her birthday when she had–
Nope. No thinking about her birthday right now.
“How are things going?” she asked. That seemed to open the floodgates.
“It’s been stressful,” he admitted, looking down at the ground, rubbing his arm nervously. “My father’s business sort of belongs to me now, I guess. Nathalie’s been doing all she can but she’s very overworked, understandably, so I really should be pulling my weight too.”
“Seriously? A 15 year old, running a company?!”
As usual, she wanted to smack herself with her own tail for speaking without thinking. Why had she decided to do this again? Adrien needed a Rose, or a Marinette, or a Nino, not an Alix.
“Not exactly running it,” Adrien said. “Nathalie’s been doing the business side of things. But considering my father’s… current reputation… the company’s sales have dropped a lot. Too much. I’ve had to double the amount of photoshoots, promotion events to attend, everything like that, just so we can keep the company running…”
He sounded like he was going to start crying again, thinking about his father. Time for the escape plan.
“You’ve talked to Nino about all this, right?” she asked. To her surprise, Adrien shook his head.
“The wi-fi and international messaging costs are so expensive for him now that he’s out of Europe for the next several weeks. He has been trying to call a lot after he heard the news, asking if I’m okay, but I don’t want him having to pay so much just to talk to me when he should be having a relaxing holiday!”
Really? So someone really had been trying to keep Adrien Agreste sane, and he ignored it??? This boy needed more help than she realized.
“You need a break,” she said firmly. “A lot’s happened to you recently and you can’t be expected to just get thrown back into model stuff and high society events while you’re still like, I dunno, grieving. And for god’s sake, talk to Nino! He’s probably super worried about you!”
“I know, I know, but he can’t exactly fly back, and international calls and texts really are expensive! And I can’t just let my father’s brand – my brand, I mean – fall apart! People don’t want to support a supervillain, so I’ve got to show them that it’s not him running it now. It’s m-me.”
Talking about his father really did seem to be making him very upset, with his fists clenched again, and tears already starting to run down his face. Maybe this wasn’t such a good idea. But he wasn’t stopping now.
“And I wish my father had taught me how to do all of this before, so I would know. But no, he didn’t. And maybe I should go visit him in jail, they said I can if I want, but… I’m not sure if… if I want to see him… Oh man, does that make a bad son?”
“What? No!” No one in their mind would call Adrien-freaking-Agreste a bad son. “Your dad’s a total dick, he doesn’t deserve you.”
He started crying now. Right. Insulting his dad had probably been a bad idea.
“Sorry,” she muttered.
“No, you’re right…” He wiped a few tears away from his eyes, his fists still clenched. “He’s a bad person, he hurt a lot of people. Everything’s so unfair! And now it’s all on me to sort it out!”
Dealing with crying people was never any fun. If this had been school, she would have just run off to look for Rose or someone to go be a Good Motherly Friend and calm Adrien’s tears. But she couldn’t do that here. Drat… she was going to have to be the Motherly Friend herself now, wasn’t she? Was that even what he wanted? What did crying people want?
Well, as much as she never wanted to think about that cursed day ever again, she had certainly been crying on her birthday due to… that thing that happened. And Jalil had been there for her. What had he done again? It was hard to remember now. He had hugged her until she stopped crying, then told her a few bad jokes to cheer her up, and then put on a movie to distract her, and made her some food…
Okay. How much of that could she do? Adrien probably had tons of movies and no shortage of food, but he could do that himself later. He was too busy crying for the bad jokes stage yet. So did that mean she had to hug him? No way. Queen Cobra did not DO hugs. Neither did Alix Kubdel, for that matter, with the sole exception of her brother.
Oh, why did Nino have to be on holiday? Things would have been so much easier with him here! And didn’t Adrien have other people he could rely on? Marinette, Alya, Rose, Juleka, Kim, anyone?
But then again, none of them had been there at the moment when he found out that his father was Hawk Moth. None of them knew how much it was truly, deeply hurting him. And he couldn’t talk to any of them about the dramatic new secret he had discovered – the identity of one of Paris’s superheroes. Perhaps he was keeping it all to himself because he didn’t want to let anything slip. Perhaps he wasn’t sure if any of them would understand if he couldn’t confide everything to them.
So, it was up to Alix then? Great.
Feeling like a totally clueless moron, she stretched out her tail and wrapped it around his shoulders. There, that counted as a hug, right?
Well, it certainly felt like one. Not many people knew that she could indeed feel sensations in her tail when she was transformed, like an extra limb. How else was she supposed to grab people with it and dangle them over the edges of buildings without accidentally squeezing them to death? (Cobras were not that kind of snake.) She needed the pressure sensitivity. Usually she just used it for superhero stuff.
A hug, though? This felt totally new.
It seemed to be helping, thank goodness, since Adrien was now clinging onto the tail for reassurance, his tears starting to subside. It was a good thing the scales were waterproof, or that might have been kinda gross. Anyway, it looked like she had actually done something right, finally.
“Thank you,” he said eventually, still holding onto the tail for dear life. “Sorry, I’m just… a mess? Everything’s been a lot lately, I’m tired, and scared, and… and…”
“Smad?”
He turned to look at her, frowning.
“Smad,” she repeated. “Sad, and mad, at the same time. Smad.”
For a few seconds more he just stared. Then, very quietly, he started chuckling.
Phew, looked like the bad jokes stage had worked fine too.
“Smad,” he sighed, still smiling, finally letting go of her tail. She quickly retracted it, not used to anyone holding it for so long, or for any length of time at all really. “Yeah, I’m smad.”
“Well yeah, that makes perfect sense considering all the wacky stuff going on in your life. Seriously, it’s like a movie. Speaking of movies, wanna watch one?”
He shook his head. “I don’t really feel like it right now…”
Oh, whoops. Movie and food stage had failed. She knew her success streak had been too long to last. Maybe it was best to get out of here before he started crying again when she made another misstep, which she inevitably would.
“Do you need anything else?” she asked, hoping he wouldn’t.
“No, I think I’ll be alright, thanks for being here… wait, are you leaving already?”
Drat, he was looking afraid or something, like he didn’t want her to go. That was somewhat unusual. Unless she was doing superhero stuff, people tended to want her to leave as quick as possible. She knew perfectly well she was considered annoying. But if he wanted her to stick around for a while, that was weird, and… kind of nice.
“Do you want me to leave?” she asked.
“Oh! Um… well no, but… if you have to go, then…”
Technically she really did have to go. If she didn’t get back soon and her father realized she had been out too long, she was going to be in a heck of a lot of trouble. But was Adrien going to be okay if she left him alone again? It was pretty clear he was not going to call Nino, nor was he going to take a rest. The stubborn, perfect child was going to carry on working himself to death.
“I’ll visit you again soon to check up you, I promise,” she decided, wondering if she would regret it later.
“Really? Thank you!” He was smiling again, a little more happily than before. “You’re so kind.”
Liar. She was not kind in the slightest, and he knew it. Honest, maybe, good at heart, had the best of intentions, all that stuff. But kind? That was going a bit too far. And she very much tried to ignore how proud that fake compliment made her feel on the inside.
“If you need anything then just let me know,” she said.
“I will.”
“Cool. See you later then.”
She finger-gunned at him, the gesture feeling so weird now that she was doing it as Queen Cobra, who never usually did stuff like that. He grinned and did it back. Good – if he was grinning then he was unlikely to start crying again, and it was safe to leave. She jumped back out of the open window and leapt away.
She had almost reached home before she heard someone calling out to her.
“Queen Cobra! There you are!”
Oh, that was the most reassuring voice possible to hear when on the rooftops of Paris all alone. She turned around to see Ladybug and Rena Rouge running towards her, huge smiles on their faces. They didn’t know her secret identity, of course, so it was time to be Queen Cobra again. Snarky, sassy Alix would have to wait.
“Hi,” she said. “Good to see you again.”
“You too!” Ladybug replied, coming to a stop in front of her, Rena doing the same shortly after. “We’ve been looking for you. First of all, well done on the other day! We could never have defeated Hawk Moth without your help, you did such an amazing job!”
They were both looking at her with such genuine support on their faces. Trust them to always be so kind all the time, the sort of person a superhero should be. Couldn’t Adrien have discovered one of their identities instead? They would have a much easier time being his freaking therapist!
“Thank you,” she said. “You too.”
“Aww, well, we’re a team, right?”
Barely…
“We had questions actually,” Rena said, in that usual matter-of-fact tone. “Ladybug and I have always specialized in fighting akumas. You, on the other hand, are all about being the coolest masked vigilante ever and cleaning up the streets of Paris, stopping dangerous criminals from hurting the innocents! Now that there are no akumas, would it be okay if we started doing that too?”
“Only if that’s alright!” Ladybug added quickly. “We don’t want to infringe on your job or anything!”
“We just want to help.”
“I know you like working alone, so we won’t bother you or anything, we just wanted to know–”
“–how do you track down ordinary criminals? Unlike akuma villains, they don’t make themselves known–”
“–and do you just take them to the police or what?”
Finishing each other’s sentences, as usual. Oh, classic Ladybug and Rena. She hadn’t realized until now how worried she had been about the possibility of never seeing them again. As distant as she kept herself, she really did like their company. It was nice to know that they always had her back.
“Of course you can start doing that, you don’t have to ask me,” she said. “Isn’t that what superheroes are supposed to do anyway?”
“Oh, right!” Ladybug nodded. “Of course. Thanks.”
“No problem. As for how you find criminals, just keep an eye out. Especially after dark. And check the Snakeboards on the Ladyblog, people often post things there.”
“What do we do with criminals we catch?” Rena asked.
“Take them to the police, like you said. With evidence if you can.”
“Ah right, thank you, that makes sense.”
Did they really have no clue how to do all this? Akumas had always been a big deal, but she had assumed they got on with this stuff too in their spare time. Apparently not, by the sounds of it.
“We’ll try our best,” Ladybug said, pumping a fist in the air.
Why did that nervous smile on her face look familiar? Oh yes, it was similar to when they had fought Stone Heart, the very first akuma all that time ago. Ladybug had been worried, sure that she would fail, not knowing what to do. Then Rena had gone over and put her hands on her shoulders, looked in her eyes, and told her to believe in herself. That they would do this together. That was the moment Ladybug had begun to become more like her usual confident self, and the moment that Queen Cobra knew she was doomed to forever be a third wheel.
So Ladybug was nervous now? Well, this was a fresh start for her. Fighting akumas was what she was used to doing, what her whole hero image was based on. It made sense that she was worried.
“You’ll be great at it,” Queen Cobra said, trying to sound as encouraging as she could without breaking into Alix-levels of enthusiasm. “Paris still needs you. Your jobs aren’t over yet.”
That seemed to help somewhat. It was much easier to motivate a nervous superhero to do her job than to stop a terrified, broken kid from having a breakdown, that was for sure.
“Absolutely right,” Rena said, tapping Ladybug on the head with her flute. “What do you say, milady? Time to clean up the city?”
Ladybug nodded, her face back to the determined expression that she was known for. “Definitely. Let’s get started right now!”
“You coming, QC?”
Queen Cobra shook her head, aware of the sun dipping below the horizon. “I have to go. But good luck.”
“Thanks. I hope we’ll still see you around.”
“Oh, and did you get the Butterfly Miraculous back to the Great Guardian?” Ladybug asked.
“Yep,” she replied.
“Good work! Do you think you could introduce us to him someday?”
“If he wants me to.”
“Fair enough. Anyway, see you around!”
Ladybug flashed her one last smile, before yoyo-ing away into the sunset, with Rena following. Those two really did make a great team. It seemed like two was a good number of superheroes to have together if things didn’t want to devolve into “leader and sidekicks”. Ladybug and Rena were partners, equals, teammates, friends, and Queen Cobra was… an acquaintance, maybe.
Just like she was as a civilian. Her classmates were easy to split up into friendship pairs. Unlike the very distant Nathaniel she wasn’t lonely as such, but she certainly didn’t have a “teammate”. It was fine, really, it was. She wasn’t jealous or anything. Of course not. That would be stupid. Really stupid.
Never mind. Time to get back home before she got into trouble.
Except, of course, she did get into trouble.
“You said you’d be back 20 minutes ago!” her father sighed, looking down at her, disappointment written all over his face. He was always like that these days – did he not realize it hurt?
“Sorry,” she muttered.
“What were you even doing?!”
Being a superhero, duh. But saying that wouldn’t end well. The worst part was, she couldn’t even think of any excuses that wouldn’t land her in even more trouble. Going to the bakery? No, it would be closed by now, he knew that. Hanging out with a friend? Then he’d ask which friend, and knowing him, would literally call up their parents and ask. Another challenge with Kim? She couldn’t keep using him as an excuse, and anyway, that would make her father even more mad!
“If you’re not going to answer me, I suppose I’ll have to waive your rights to stay at home during the upcoming art promotion event.”
The upcoming…?
“What? No!”
“I have made up my mind. You’ll have to come along.”
“Dad, please, no,” she said, trying to sound like a good, adorable child who no one would ever refuse. It was not easy. “You promised I didn’t have to go to that.”
“And you promised you would be home on time, but here we are.”
“Oh come on! You know I hate those event thingies! They’re so boring! And the people are so mean, and I have to wear a…” She couldn’t even bring herself to say the word dress.
“They are necessary, and you really need to learn to attend more of them.”
“No I don’t! I don’t wanna be a museum person or some CEO or something when I grow up anyway, I don’t need to go to these things, they’re just a waste of time–”
“And maybe they’ll teach you some manners,” her father said firmly. “You’re not a little kid anymore, Alix. You’re 15 years old. It’s about time you started acting like it.”
Ohhh, did he always have to say that whenever she was being “bratty”? Wow, it was almost like 15 year olds had their own choices and opinions or something!
She was about to stomp her foot and say so when she realized something.
“Did you say… art promotion event?” she asked.
“Yes, I did.”
“Is it a big thing?”
“Yes.”
“So then… was Gabriel Agreste going to be there before he got chucked into jail like he deserves?”
“I believe so.”
“Sooooo, does that mean Adrien will be there instead?”
“I don’t know, why all these questions?”
Adrien would be there. That was bad for him, poor thing, but at least maybe this way it wouldn’t be quite as awful. And if she was going too, at least he could be reassured that there was someone there who did actually feel sorry for him. A secret superhero to protect him.
But if it was a big event then it was possible that she wouldn’t even bump into him while there. That had happened once before, when she and Chloé hadn’t even realized that they had been at the same gala until Chloé was bragging about it afterwards, since they simply hadn’t seen each other.
In that case there was only one thing for it.
“Adrien is my friend and needs support,” she said. “He can come over here before the event and we can take him there with us. I don’t want him there all alone. Is that okay?”
Friend was a bit of a strong word for Adrien, they were mostly just classmates who knew each other and got along alright, but then again he did now know a bigger secret about her than anyone else did. And calling him a friend might just persuade her father to let her do this. He had always thought of Adrien as much better than her – why can’t you be more like Adrien? So polite and helpful all the time? He’s so responsible! You should try to be like that!
Yeah, it was pretty clear her father wished he’d had Adrien as a child, rather than either Jalil or Alix. Especially after what had happened on her birthday. Adrien would never have done what she did that day…
She looked up at her father, trying her very best not to look as angry as she was feeling. Temper management had never been one of her strong points.
“Oh, alright,” he said finally, sighing. “Maybe he can keep you under control better than I can.”
Hah, there was no way. Adrien was easily the kind of person who would let her do whatever she wanted, whether that was sock-sliding down empty corridors or spending all evening at the drinks table and refusing to talk to any of the other people there.
“Thank you so much!” she said, before running off upstairs to her room. She pulled out her phone and called up Adrien immediately.
“Alix?”
“I know I literally just spoke to you like twenty minutes ago,” she said quickly, “but I’m being forced to go to that art promotion thing on Tuesday evening, are you going to that?”
“The one at the museum? Yes, unfortunately I have to…”
“Well you’re not going alone and neither am I. Annoyed rebel kids team up. You can come over to my house beforehand and then go with us, okay? Then I won’t have to spend all evening looking for you while I’m there.”
“Really? You’d let me do that?” The happiness was easily perceivable in his voice. He sounded like a little kitten, honestly. It was kind of adorable.
“Definitely. I hate these events as much as you do.”
“Oh, thank you Alix! It’ll be nice to have a friend there.”
Hrmmm, friend…
“Do you know if Chloé will be there?” she asked quickly. Maybe if she was then she could be Adrien’s emotional support for once. Those two were friends, right? Sort of? Sometimes?
“I doubt it, this isn’t really the kind of event the mayor would be attending, so neither would Chloé.”
Dang it. “Aw, well, never mind. I’ll see you soon anyway.”
“Yes, see you soon, and thank you once again!”
“No problem. And talk to Nino!” she added hastily, before hanging up. Perhaps if he got to talk to someone else about his ridiculously tragic life before the event then she wouldn’t have to worry so much about him suddenly bursting into tears on her at any possible moment.
He had called her a friend, too. Okay, fine. A lot of people did. Marinette, Alya, Juleka, Rose, Ivan, Mylène, even Kim and Max occasionally…
Was he just being nice, as usual? Or did he mean it?
Eh, no point getting her hopes up. No one ever really meant it.
Scoot floated out of her pocket lazily. “Finally, you’re doing something right.”
She poked him. “I’m always right, string bean.”
“No, you’re always wrong. But I’m glad you’re going to help the Agreste boy. I’ve clearly been such a good influence on you.”
“Oh, be quiet. I’m gonna go talk to Jalil.”
“Fine, escape my wrath while you can!”
Scoot was so darn annoying all the time, always so unhelpful and unsupportive. But hearing him tell her for once that she was doing the right thing, well, it made her feel better than she wanted to admit. He was a kwami who had been alive for thousands of years. If he thought she was doing okay this time, then maybe she really was.

This is for @recklesssketches because they’re right; there is a disappointing lack of brichat on here and I’m trying to help remedy that.
Chat Noir had a perfectly good excuse for being on Bridgette’s balcony that one day. He did not, however, have one for why he kept coming back.
It had started becuase of him, oddly enough. He had rejected Bridgette once again- as Félix, of course, but he was maybe a bit…harsh with his words. She didn’t cry, no, but he pegged her for the kind of person to wallow in her sorrows alone, so as not to disturb the happiness of others around her. She was definitely more upset than she was letting on, if the slight tremble in her lip was any indication.
He didn’t want her to get akumatized.
Well, that was what he told himself as he jumped from rooftop to rooftop on a quest to her balcony. He would check on her, make sure she wasn’t too sad, and then go about his life. She was resilient, and (if he was being honest), he would probably end up rejecting another one of her invitations the next day.
Needless to say, that wasn’t what happened.
She had been confused at first, obviously. And maybe a bit apprehensive. That quickly faded though, and she had asked him what warranted his ‘visit.’
“I heard you got rejected pretty badly today, it’s my job as a superhero to make sure you aren’t sad. Taking care of Paris and it’s citizens and all that jazz,” he had said, earning a snort from her.
“Yeah, right. You were checking to make sure I didn’t get possessed!” she pointed an accusing finger in his direction. Well, she wasn’t wrong. Not in the slightest.
“Well, you’re not wrong, but-” he began, only to be cut off.
“Well if that’s why you’re here, you can go. I’m not going to lose my head over a boy. Yes, I like Félix, but my life doesn’t revolve around him- that much,” she had said angrily. He was surprised, to say the least. Bridgette Cheng and angry were two things he had never imagined in the same sentence.
“Calm yourself, I was just checking. But if you’re really fine, I guess I’ll take my leave,” he had said carefully. Something close to concern was evident in her eyes as she went to get something.
“Here. Food in compensation for your oh so caring visit,” she giggled slightly. He took it with a small scowl.
“Hey! I care!” He had protested, even though it was sort of a lie. At the moment, he didn’t care too much about her as a person, but as an effect, a consequence for his actions.
“Please, you’ve been waiting to leave since you got here,” she shook her head.
“N-no I hav-”
“Save it.” He was quickly silenced.
“I can read people pretty well,” she had offered as an excuse.
“I see,” he nodded. “Well, in that case, I’ll take my leave.” He took a theatrical bow, which she had rolled her eyes at and shooed him along.
When he had landed back into his room and lost his transformation, he stared into the mirror, gving himself a scrutinizing stare before sighing and going to bed.
Bridgette didn’t talk to him the next day.
She was as outgoing as usual with her classmates, but there wasn’t anything special about him today. So he did what any other rational person would do in that case, he went to visit her.
“Chat Noir,” she had greeted with a careful smile.
“Civilian,” he’d smirked.
“What brings you here?” she leaned forward on her hands. He gave a sloppy gesture with his hands as he leaned on the railing of her balcony.
“I’ve heard that there’s trouble in paradise. You’re ignoring your mysterious amour?” he tilted his head.
“I’m leaving him alone. Like he asked,” she shrugged. The way she had looked away…it made him think that perhaps this was a sore subject. He knew all about sore subjects. So…he changed it.
“Well then…what’s your favorite book?”
They talked endlessly of books. She was more well rounded in her education than Chat had assumed, and it was painfully clear in the deep conversations they had over certain stories. Now, he didn’t like her. But he had left with more food, and a slightly higher opinion of Bridgette Cheng as a person.
This continued for the next few weeks. He would come over, they would talk about mostly irrelevant topics (though there were some nights where they would get into deepr discussions) and he would be rewarded with food. It was a nice little arrangement. He would even say that they were…friends.
But that completely changed tonight. Because when he went over there, she was sad. He poked her shoulder lightly.
“Hey, what’s wrong?” She turned her head to him and smiled tiredly.
“Nothing, Chat. Just a…trying day,” she sighed and rested her head in her arms. The melancholy tone in her voice made a place deep in his chest ache with an emotion unfarmiliar to him. He wasn’t sure what to do so he simply sat next to her and wrapped an arm around her shoulders, pulling her to him.
A small noise of surprise escaped her before she leaned fully into him. She wasn’t sure where this had come from, but was happy to reciprocate. Her day had been one bad thing after the next, and it felt as though she was suffocating. Being with Chat, though…it gave her a chance to breathe.
He let his fingers trail casually through her hair as he started to talk about nothing and everything. At some point, she had adjusted herself so that she could see him more clearly, and when he told her a particularly funny story, his pulse picked up considerably at the genuine smile on her face.
When he left that night with his usual treats and then some, he pressed his lips softly against her hand before giving her a lazy two finger salute and dashing off.
His trip home was shorter than usual, because all he could think about was her smile. And her hair. And her. One day, he decided, he would tell her how much he adored her.
Wait, what?
He nearly fell of the side of the building as the shocking revelation hit him.
He liked Bridgette Cheng. And he sure as hell didn’t mean that platonically.
He didn’t know when his feeling had shifted from someting close to friendship to, well…that, but now everything was full force in motion and he was struggling to keep up. How does one go from despising the existence of another to having romantic feelings for them? He didn’t know. He wasn’t sure he wanted to, either. He continued home with more thoughts on his mind than he could comprehend.
He didn’t show up for weeks. That damn stray. Bridgette scowled at her reflection in the computer screen as she wondered for the millionth time what had made Chat’s visits stop. She also wondered why she cared. Well, that was a lie. She knew why she cared. She just didn’t particularly want to acknowledge it at the moment.
She was drawn out of her mind by a thump on her balcony. One she knew all too well. She didn’t turn when her trapdoor opened, or when a more resounding thump sounded on the floor of her bedroom.
“You left,” she accused, her voice soft but firm.
“I did,” he didn’t bother denying it. She stayed facing away from him.
“Please turn around.” She stayed.
He walked over to the back of the chair and spun it around himself, using his index finger to tilt her chin up to look at him.
“Y-you can’t just leave like that. I was worried, and sad a-and, and you-” he pressed a finger to her lips to silence her.
“I know,” he murmured before crushing her to him in a hug, burying his head in her hair.
“I missed you. You could have at least let me know you were okay,” she mumbled.
“I know. I missed you too. I just…I didn’t…I couldn’t…” he struggled for words. She was patient. Yet another thing he liked about her. She didn’t rush anyone.
“It’s probably better that I show you,” she said as she pulled away enough to see her face, which had the most adorably inquisitive look on it. He smiled softly at her and pressed his forehead to hers.
And then he kissed her.

Hi! I really want to apologize for taking too long to update this chapter. But uni was really stressful and i didnt have the inspiration to work on this chapter until a few days ago. It's not as long as the previous two but it's a regular one. I hope you enjoy it :D I finally wrote an interaction i wanted since the begginging
A shout out to @laney-of-the-stars (AO3 link here) for winning the mini contest i held here on tumblr!
Thanks to @lunalocura for being an amazing beta!
Summary: Chaos, besides its own natures, has a little order on it. Chaos, without order, leads to destruction itself. When the object holding the chaos of the world is damaged, maybe a little more than order is going to be needed to fix it. Abomination! AU

Chapter 5
When the cold air of the morning hits Marinette’s face she notices that it was the first time in weeks that she is early to school.
It wasn’t normally a bad habit of her. Really, she was only late the days after a night battle with one of Hawkmoth’s akumas (‘apparently a side effect of his miraculous is making him an insomniac. Are you sure he isn’t a vampire, Tikki?’) . Add to that the responsibilities of being the president of her class, homework, keeping up her grades, working on her designs, being a good daughter and still being there for her friends, if it wasn’t for her good stamina (and the traces of magic running through her body), she would have slept for a whole year.
So usually, she was as early as a normal student could be.
Today, though, it’s different.
Her mind goes through Chat’s words. He had called her, Ladybug her, around midnight. She was in her pajamas working in some sketches when Tikki announced to her that Chat was trying to contact her. She clearly remembered (and blushed at the thought) how she shouted “Transform me!” the moment her kwami ended her sentence.  No one could had blamed her: it had been hours since she last talked to him and she had already lost hopes of him calling her back. She had already imagined all the worst possible scenarios.
She had been maybe a little bit too eagerly when she answered her yo-yo.
The conversation went too quickly for her taste —and considering how Chat normally acted, it shouldn’t have been that short—: he accepted being looked over by Marinette (she had to reassure him that yes, Marinette still wanted to help) but only after school and if she was free to do it. He didn’t want to keep her from going out with her friends if she wanted to. And he would only stay until 9 in the night if needed. He ended the call promising he would behave for her because he was a gentleman and ‘you are the only woman in my mind, Buginette’ and, if anything, she would be the first to know if something happened (she had to invent an excuse of why Ladybug couldn’t be there as well when he suggested it. She went with the whole ‘two superheroes visiting a civilian would be too much. You can sneak out but I can be followed and we both know we don’t want that to happen’.)
She let out a sigh of relief the moment they both hung up and then she tried to sleep —after apologizing to Tikki, of course—. But she couldn’t. No matter how much she tried to clear her thoughts, there was something bothering her that wasn’t letting her rest. At 4 in the morning, she stopped battling against her lack of sleep and decided to take her time to prepare for school (and check some of her homework too).
In that moment she realized the cause of her insomnia: there was another blond she haven’t heard about. Not since Twinkle-Twister’s attack.
She promptly grabbed her phone and searched through her messages: the last message was one the day before Shockwave’s attack.
She really tried to not freak out about it. Surely there wasn’t anything to worry about. Adrien didn’t need to speak her every day. That’s what friends do, right? Something probably came up to him, something about his job. There wasn’t anything she need to be worry about!
But then she remembered how awful and sick he looked that day and how even with that he tried to help his friends. Sure she saved him from out of the dragon’s claws but was he really ok? What if something happened to him on that roof? What if his sickness was actually something worse? What if his father took him to a hospital and that’s why he hadn’t communicated with anyone?
And that’s how she ended up in front of the school door —after Tikki calmed her down—, checking her phone every single minute. She couldn’t take the risk of missing any message.
“Wowowow, are my eyes deceiving me?” a masculine voice says besides her. “Maybe it’s the light of the sun that is making me see things?”
Marinette jumps, surprised at the sudden presence, but then rolls her eyes when she recognizes who is speaking
“There’s no sun since we are close to w-“
“She finally speaks!” The voice continues, which only cause Marinette to glare at him “and she is looking at me too! What a wonderful day! Ladies and gentlemen, Petit Pain in person!”
At the mention of the nickname, she can’t pretend to be mad at him anymore. Instead, a laugh full of fondness and old memories surrounds the two teenagers.
“What?” he says, a toothy smile crossing his features.
She shakes her head. “Nothing. It’s just…it’s has been so long since you called me like that.”
“It has been really long since we talked like this.” Kim says. Marinette tries not to flinch at the comment.
“Sorry.”
“Nah, it’s ok. We are both at fault about it. I never tried to look for you. I know that at least you did.” He bites his lip. “I should be the one apologizing.”
“You don’t have to.” She reassures him.
Brow furrowed, he shakes his head this time. “But I want to. I want to do things right. Having a maniac inside my head put some things in perspective for me, you know?”
A pang of guilt hits her again.
“Hey, don’t sweat it, Marinette. You and I both know it wasn’t your fault”, Kim reiterates. “You didn’t humiliate me to our classmates and you weren’t the one who possessed me with a demonic butterfly.” He pauses. “Because you aren’t Hawkmoth, are you?”
It’s Kim’s turn to flinch, but in pain, when Marinette hits his arm with her fist.
“Ow! I’m hurt! I’m very much hurt!”
“You earned that.” She hisses, but a smile teases the corner of her lips.
“As your self-proclaimed brother, I deserve some respect.” He mumbles, running his hand over his injured arm
“Beat me in arm wrestling and then we’ll see.”
Kim pouts. “Oh, c’mon, you know that’s never going to happen.”
“Precisely.”
His even bigger pout makes her burst into giggles and for the first time in days, she feels some of her stress leaving her.
“But seriously, you tried to help me that day, Marinette. Heck, you are always helping!” He exclaims. “In fact, if I didn’t know you better I would say that you are trying to beat Ladybug in which of you can help more people.”
If Marinette had been drinking something, she would have probably spit everything over Kim’s face.
“Hahaha, oh, Kim you are so funny!” She hopes for him to not notice the fakeness in her voice. “Me?! Trying to be like Ladybug? Please! I would never!”
She tries to change the topic as quickly as she could.
“So…uhm…” Marinette stutters, “w-what are you doing here so early?”
He hums. “I’m waiting for Max. I usually run around the school before classes and he measures my time. But he is a little late today. Weird.”
‘He is not the only one’, she thinks, running her thumb over the screen of her phone.
For a moment none of them says anything.  Marinette, for the sake of doing something, decides to check her messages once more. She feels Kim moving but she is too focused on looking at her mobile.
Nothing yet.
“Ahem!”
Marinette raises her head up and glances at Kim, who is sitting on the stairs, patting the spot next to him.
She cocks her head.
“C’mon! It’s pretty much obvious that something is bothering you. You can tell me.” He says, a smile still plastered over his face.
She hesitates for a second but then shrugs and sits next to her friend.
“There it is!” He exclaims, putting an arm around her shoulders and crushing her to his side. She lets out a little yelp. “Now, tell your dear brother what your problems are.”
“First of all”, she says, pushing his arm out of her shoulders, “I need to breathe.”
The young boy scratches the back of his head. “Sorry.”
“Anyway”, Marinette sighs, “I’m just…worried.”
“About?”
“Ehm…it’s…” ‘Would it be okay to tell him about Chat? Maybe not.’ ”…I have this friend…”
“Yeah…?”
“And like… we have been communicating for a while…”
“Aaaaaaaaand….?”
“And he…”
“Oh, a boy.” He interrupts.  “The plot thickens.”
“Shut up it’s not like that.”
“Sure, Jan.”
Marinette glares at him.
“One more interruption, and I will tell Alix the real reason why you didn’t come to the last bet.”
Kim pales.
“And, well,” she continues,” I haven’t known of him for the last few days. And the last time I saw him he looked so sick and tired…and I want to ask him if he is ok but I don’t want to pressure him, you know? It took me a while to speak to him and I don’t want to scare him away. So I’m just…yeah, worried.”
“I mean”, Kim says after a moment of thinking, “if you are worried you can send him a message instead of trying a direct approach.”
“But it has only been a few days…” she whispers.
“So?” He scoffs. ”Max has only been 10 minutes late and I already sent him 5 messages. He is your friend, isn’t he? Then he wouldn’t mind if you asked him if he is okay. If I was him I would be actually happy.”
‘That’s what Tikki told me too.’
In that moment Kim’s phone vibrates.
“See?” He says showing her the message he just received: it was Max apologizing for not communicating beforehand and telling him that something came up with his grandmother but that he was already close to the school.
Marinette smiles at this.
“Well that’s my cue to go.” He says, standing up. “Like my old man used to say: ‘Patience is a great virtue but a little initiative doesn’t hurt anybody.’”
“Hey!” Marinette calls him when he is leaving. “Thanks for everything, Patmol.”
Kim blinks but then lets out a big laugh.
“Nothing your big brother can’t solve, sis.” He winks at her and then runs to wherever Max is.
“And good luck with Adrien!” Marinette hears him scream to her when he is almost out of sight.
She stiffens at that but then shakes her head and laughs softly.
Tikki’s head pops out of her purse after hearing Kim’s departure.
“He is right.” She agrees.
“Yeah, h-“, Marinette starts, but is interrupted when her phone vibrates.
She quickly unlocks her mobile and looks at the message. It’s Adrien: he apologized for not talking sooner, but he was in New York with his father, helping him with the fashion show that was being hosted there. If everything came out right, they would be returning in 4 days.
“See, I told you!” The kwami chirps, excited.
A second message comes just when she finishes reading the first one. In that one Adrien says that he missed their night chats.
“Yeah, I know you did.” Marinette says, relieved that at least one of her problems was solved.
‘I know you did.’
“Plagg! Help me to check if everything is ok.”
‘Kid, this is the sixth time you’ve checked yourself.’
“It doesn’t hurt to check again!”
‘You are not even carrying anything! Just that stupid thing on your head.’
Adrien huffs. Today he is going to go to Marinette’s house and saying he is nervous would be understating things. The moment he ended his call with Ladybug, he started planning how their meeting would go, asking Plagg for advice and being awake all night when the kwami got tired. He didn’t want to scare her anymore, no matter how many times Ladybug assured him that Marinette wasn’t going to reject him.
“It’s not stupid. It’s for precaution.” He corrects him.
‘Oh, I’m sorry, you are right. The thing is not stupid. You are the one being stupid right now.’
“Wow, I can totally feel your love towards me.” Adrien says indignantly. His fists are clenched and a cold anger starts forming in his chest.
The kwami says nothing. Adrien closes his eyes trying to calm himself but it’s difficult. He then feels a low vibration in his throat and something running up and down his back, like if someone is rubbing it.
“P-plagg? Are you the one doin-?”
‘Shhh. Breathe first, then talk.’
He does as instructed. He tries to focus on the fresh sensation that replaces the painful cold in his chest and the soothing movements over his back. His breathing then started to regulate and his anger to dissipate.
“How…?”
‘Remember that I can feel what you are feeling. I am older and I know some tricks.’
“I…” Now Adrien feels guilty for doubting about his kwami’s feelings. “Thanks.”
‘Don’t feel sorry, lad. We both are in a situation that is uncomfortable and you are more sensitive now. Even I am more sensitive. But you can’t lose control or your powers will too.’
The flowerpot incident comes to his mind.
‘Kid…’ Plagg warns.
“I know, I know.” Adrien says. “I still need to apologize to her for that too.”
‘And, you know, for being late too.’ The kwami comments.
“WHAT?” He checks his baton and realizes that he is 5 minutes late. He clearly hears Plagg’s cackles in his head.
Ignoring his kwami, he promptly makes sure that everything is in order, that the door in his room is secured and then he leaps out to the rooftops.
It takes him another 10 minutes to reach Marinette’s house — he avoided as much as he could all the houses with flowerpots or something that could fall or hurt anybody—. He decides to hide behind the chimney over her balcony when he notices that Marinette is not home yet. He is relieved by that actually. That gives him the time to repeat to himself the speech he practiced all the morning and to check that the paper bag over his face is still there.
‘And here we go again with that thing.’
‘Plagg! I told you that the bag is-‘
‘For precaution and yadda, yadda yeah I heard you. But we both know that you are not doing it for that, but because of that dumb jok-‘
“Coo!”
Both Adrien and Plagg freeze at the sound. The former turns his head up and sees a pigeon over him.
‘Plagg, please tell me that my allergies were gone after I became this thing.’
‘You tell me, kid.’
The pigeon cocks its head.
Adrien’s throat aches.
‘Oh, no’
The pigeon suddenly launches itself towards him and starts pecking at the bag. Adrien gasps at the sudden attack but shuts his mouth quickly when the aches increase. The animal keeps pecking merciless, no matter how many times he shoo it away. He actually manages to brush its wings with his hand a couple of times.
‘WHAT DOES THIS BIRD WANT WITH MY BAG?!’
‘I TOLD YOU THIS WAS A DUMB IDEA!’
‘RETREAT!’
Desperate, Adrien jumps in the direction of Marinette’s balcony looking for cover, but his bad luck follows him, making him tangled with the white tarp that cover his friend’s balcony. He lets out a yelp and rolls over the balcony, landing ungracefully over the floor…
“Hey, do you hear something?”
…in the exact moment in which Marinette opens her trapdoor.
Adrien groans, both in pain and embarrassment. This isn’t going as it supposes to be. He looks at the girl in front of him and he feels his face reddening even more when he sees her standing there, eyes widened and her mouth forming a comical “o”.
Not for the first time, Adrien wishes for his destructive powers to make a hole in the ground and let it swallow him up.
“Well…” Marinette finally speaks, “…I knew you wanted to make a dramatic entrance but I think you went over the top this time.”
Adrien wants to cry and laugh at the same time.
‘Kid, remember…breathe.’ Plagg’s voice makes Adrien to finally compose himself.
‘Right, right…’
Clearing his throat, he carefully untangles himself of the awning, straightening himself up.
“I deeply apologize for the damages caused, Princess,” he says and to emphasize it, he bows to her. “But I must say, I was furiously attacked by a rabid animal.”
She looks back to where he came from and turning to him, she raises an eyebrow. “You mean, Jacques?”
“That thing has a name?!” He looks up at the chimney and glares angrily at the pigeon, who is distractedly cleaning one of his wings.
‘I can’t believe we have been defeated by a pigeon named Jacques.’
‘We are never going to talk about this, kid.’
‘Gotcha.’
“Ok but seriously,” Marinette’s voice interrupts his inner conversation, “is there a good explanation of why do you have a paper bag over your head?”
Adrien swallows and nervously rubs the back of his neck. “Heh, funny you ask! Uhm…erhmmm…well, you see…”
“Wait, wait, wait. Is this because of…of how you look like?” She inquires. “Because I- erh Ladybug told me already about it.”
He doesn’t answer her.
Marinette sighs. “Look, there’s nothing you need to hide, ok?” She takes a step forward, but Adrien gets nervous and takes a step back. She stops for a moment but then continues moving, decided. “I don’t know what exactly happened but I’m not going to get easily scared of a kitty version of Venom.”
“I mean it’s not exactly that but-wait-!” He begins saying but stops when he feels Marinette’s hands on his face.
Too quickly to stop her, she removes the paper bag…
“Oh my god.”
…To reveal a Chat Noir’s mask —that it was just a photo of a magazine stuck to a piece of cardboard- over his face.
The deadpanned glare she sends to him is enough to stop the laugh that was forming in his throat.
“Oh my god, Chat, seriously? A Deadpool joke?”
‘I told you this was a dumb idea, kid.’
“I just was trying to lighten up the mo- wait a minute how do you know it’s from Deadpool?” He asks.
She crosses her arms over her chest. “How do you know about it?”
“I asked you first.”
“I asked you second.”
‘Oh for the love of-‘
“My kwami told me it was a great movie but he only showed me certain clips.”
‘Don’t include me into this.’
“I asked my parents for permission and they said yes.”
“Young lady, you shouldn’t be watching that kind of movies, they’re not for your age.” He scolds her playfully.
She scoffs. “And are you? You don’t look older than me, kitten.”
‘STOP FLIRTING!’
‘Damn, she is right. I’m younger.’
‘You are totally ignoring me, aren’t you?’
‘What do you thin-no! Marinette, wait!”
But Marinette is faster again and the mask ends up in her hands in another fluid movement.
Adrien just closes his eyes, not wanting to see her reaction. He doesn’t want to see the same expression Ladybug had the first time she saw him.
“Chat…”
‘Kid…’
He lets out a soft whine and shakes his head.
“…please…”
‘…open your eyes.’
“…open your eyes.”
Adrien doubts at first but, slowly, he finally opens his eyes.
The first he sees in his reflection in her eyes. How the deformed features reflect into them. How the light of the dusk turns even creepier his aspect.
He feels horrified at himself.
But the eyes looking at him are not.
In fact, the next thing he notices is the smile on the girl in front of him. By the way her expression is telling him that he is not unwelcomed, that everything is going to be alright.
For the first time in days he feels safe.
“See,” she says, “I told you I wasn’t going anywhere.”
He has to repress the urge to hug her.
“Thanks, Princess.” He tries to give her the best smile he can in his condition.
She blinks but then laughs softly and mumbles something to herself. He catches something like “I missed that” but he isn’t sure.
“So,” she says after a moment, “would you…like to come in… I know my room is small and maybe a bit disorganized…well, disorganized in general,  but you can stay on the chaise, you know, take a nap…”
His eyes widen, surprised. He hadn’t thought about her asking to go to inside her house, let alone to her room.  Where there is stuff. Fragile stuff.
He can feel his heart throbbing in his ears.
“…unless you prefer going back to your house because I’m totally scaring you. I’m sorry!”
“Nono…it’s just…I m-mean…” He stumbles in his words and actually feels sweat forming on his hands, “I d-didn’t thought you were going to a-ask me that and I just…I need...I really n-need to think about it.”
“Right, right…”
“So, uhm…yeah I think I just…” He says, and jumps over the grills of her balcony.
“Yeah… you can…errr…” She licks her lips. “See you tomorrow?”
Adrien turns back and looks at her. He doesn’t want to hurt her and he is scared of what could happen if he can’t control his powers if he actually enters her room…
But at the same time, he finds himself not wanting to reject the girl who just welcomed him even with his condition.
“I…yeah,” he finally says. “See you tomorrow.”
He leaps off the balcony and quickly loses himself in the shadows.
When he enters his room, he lets himself fall over his bead. Putting an arm over his face, he closes his eyes and realizes that he is feeling lighter than ever.
‘Well,’ he hears Plagg talk again inside his head, ‘I think that went…not as planned.’
Adrien chuckles. ‘You can say that again.’
‘But it ended up pretty well.’
‘Yeah, I think so.’
‘But you know, you forgot to apologize to her for the flowerpot thing.’
‘…’
“Fuck!”
Later that night, Adrien finds himself unable to sleep.
‘Kid, you should rest. You need to keep your energies up for tomorrow.’
‘I’m not tired, Plagg.’
‘Yes, you are. You just don’t notice it yet.’
‘Maybe you need to tell me a bedtime story so I can sleep.’
‘Ugh, no, go to count some sheep or something.’
Adrien laughs, but it’s a short laugh.
‘Ok, something it’s bothering you. Spit it out.’
‘It’s nothing.’
‘Don’t lie to me, kid. Remember we share minds and sensations, so I totally know that something is eating you right now.’
Adrien hesitates, but he realizes is dumb trying to hide something from his kwami at this point.
‘I just…I was…’
‘Plagg, what if Ladybug can’t fix us?’
‘…’
‘Plagg-?’
‘Don’t think about that, kid. Of course Ladyluck is going to fix everything.’
‘B-but what if she can’t? What if what we have is incurable? The Miraculous Cure didn’t work the first time, what assures m-us that there’s something more powerful than that? I can’t even detransform and-‘
‘You can.’
‘What?’
‘What I said. You can detransform.’
‘Plagg, last time it was too painful and-‘
‘But you were able to. You were fine after that. The more time you keep with the transformation on, the more painful it will become later. It will almost impossible to try it, kid, it will ki-‘
When the kwami stops abruptly, Adrien doesn’t need to hear the rest of the sentence to know what will happen.
He could feel the sorrow coming from his friend when he talked.
‘What about you?’
‘What about me.’
‘You were melting after I detransformed. If I detransform again, what will happen to you this time?’
‘…’
‘Plagg, stop doing that silence thing, you are making me nervous.’
‘I can’t die kid, if that’s what worries you the most.’
‘But-‘
‘I’m a being made of energy. And energy cannot be created or destroyed…
‘…it can only be changed from one form to another.’ They both think at unison.
‘So like I said, you don’t need to worry about me.’
‘I’m not going to detransform, Plagg.’
‘Kid, I just told you-‘
‘I know. I know what you told me but we are both in this mess together and we are going to get out of it the same way. We are partners, aren’t we? So Ladybug will cure us both at the same time and that’s my last word.’
Finally, Adrien yawns.
‘Rest, kiddo.’
‘Yeah, yeah, I heard you –yawn- I heard you...mom.’
Plagg nothing says.
It usually doesn’t take much time until Adrien is asleep and today is no different. Plagg generally uses that time to think about the akumas, about his holder’s life, about his past holders.  The kwami can’t sleep either, but he is content on guarding his human’s sleep. He focuses on the constant rhythm of his heart, in the way his chest moves up and down because of his breathing.
It reassures him that he is still alive.
That there’s still time.
‘Once upon a time…there was a brave, curious kitten. And his name…his name was Léon…’

Kwami squad school shenanigans thought(ramblings ahead)
All four of the heroes are gonna be missing class a lot this alone can lead to a few things like: 1. They end up missing out on picking groups and Chloe winds up in a group with Alya, Mari, or Adrien and any combinations thereof or all four wind up in one together 2. If all four wind up in a group together they’d have to work out a time to actually work together and if they share their schedules and notice an overlap for all the patrol times there’s a chance for confusion 3. Three girls going to the bathroom together can cause gossip in school environments so imagine how much more there’d be if the ones going “to the bathroom” have a lot more urgency than normal and aren’t all the best of companions 4. Nino and Sabrina teaming up to try to figure out where their friends are disappearing to 5. As superheroes since there’s more of them they’re gonna be more likely to talk meaning conversations that will avoid naming names but all four of them doing things like relaying the same story from four perspectives when they decide to share why their respective days were weird and not realizing they’ve described the same event four times 6. Ladybug and BeeChloe(whatever she’s gonna be called) finding out they both like Adrien and possibly bonding over that instead of fighting over it as civilians and likewise comforting each other when they complain about a classmate who is obsessed with him 7. Ladybug and VolpinaAlya(again we don’t know yet?) having a rocky relationship because ladybug is still upset about the last Volpina but they’re both still going to be eager to try because of their optimism 8. Hyperactivity out of alya and Chloe in their super heroine forms because they’re just so excited to be anywhere near their favorite hero, Ladybug 9. Volpina finding out The two bug girls like Adrien and trying to get them to back off for Marinette’s sake under the guise of excuses like “wouldn’t you just be putting him in danger if you publicly showed interest in one civilian” 10. Chat being oddly cool with the person he’s been flirting with having a possible affection for a certain model and the others finding that more suspicious than calming 11. “Wow you’re also working on that subject in school, what are the odds?” And other conversations of the sort 12. Double the heroes means half the patrol nights if they’re switching off and if the math follows that’s double the free time for the original two 13. Because of patrol scheduling changes Marinette is now early sometimes but only when alya or Chloe are late 14. No matter how late Chat stays out his strict schedule won’t let him be late for school so he’s just really sleepy in class sometimes 15. When they all four go out on patrol Marinette sometimes makes things to share with everyone like mittens and such or brings food 16. Chloe would have a secret shrine for anything ladybug gave her, even if it was just a rock she found(Adrien might too) 17. Chloe getting her dad to open up a room in the hotel for the heroes to hang out in whenever the wanted to and relax in relative peace and quiet 18. QueenBee is mysteriously a big advocate for hanging out at the hotel where Chloe lives and doesn’t understand why the others are hesitant to go where Chloe lives
