Every Movie Watched in 2023: Ranked.

Unlike my previous ranked lists of TV, music, and games, I'm gonna try and wrap this up in one sentence thoughts of all the 117 films I watched this year.

117. Norbit. 0.5/5.

Eddie Murphy plays a nerd, an obese woman, and an Asian character, it's painfully unfunny.

116. Due Date. 1/5.

Robert Downey Jr and Zach Galifianakis are terrible people with terrible chemistry in this unfunny 2010 comedy.

115. Winnie The Pooh: Blood and Honey. 1/5.

Besides some decent gore, there's nothing this movie has going on.

114. Clash Of The Titans. 1/5.

Another despairing entry from 2010 enters the fray as Liam Neeson and Ralph Fiennes fail as portrayals of Zeus and Hades on every level.

113. The Third Saturday in October Part 5. 1/5.

Arguably in the so bad its good territory, but it annoyed me still.

112. Old Dads- 1.5/5.

Old man Bill Burr yells at cloud.

111. Hidden Strike. 1.5/5.

The novelty of Jackie Chan and John Cena on screen together is nowhere near good enough to carry the film.

110. Fast and The Furious- 1.5/5.

The first movie is shockingly more dull than I remembered as a youth.

109. Dark Shadows. 2/5.

The least engaging vampire film I've seen in a long time.

108. Justice League: Warworld. 2/5.

Imagine taking the anthology approach with variants of Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman and your movie still sucks.

107. The People We Hate At The Wedding- 2/5.

Ben Platt, you will pay for your crimes.

106. Shotgun Wedding-.2/5.

Another disappointing wedding movie but this one had Jennifer Coolidge so it's slightly better.

105. Vacation Friends 2. 2/5.

Between this and Hidden Strike, this might not have been John Cena's best year, I'm afraid.

104. Shazam: Fury of The Gods. 2/5.

Maybe it's a good thing the DCEU is dead.

103. The Killer. 2/5.

Not bad on a technical level, but not what I was expecting.

102. Five Nights At Freddy's. 2/5.

Either be menacing or be goofy, pick a lane, FNAF!

101. Top Gun. 2/5.

Besides homoerotic undertones, I can barely recall the film.

100. In The Shadow of the Moon. 2.5/5.

A Philadelphia police offers spends their whole life trying to track down this killer and I promise you I cannot remember the plot twist.

99. Police Academy. 2.5/5.

The guy that makes sound effects with his mouth is a beast, I cannot front.

98. White Men Can't Jump (2023). 2.5/5.

Jack Harlow and Sinqua Walls will never be Woody Harrelson and Wesley Snipes.

97. Batman: The Doom That Came to Gotham. 2.5/5.

Batman in the 1920s is fine...I guess?

96. Adult Swim's Yule Log. 2.5/5

Serial killers and aliens and possessed fire logs...there's too much going on.

95. Fractured. 2.5/5

Shutter Island but worse.

94. A Man Called Otto. 2.5/5

Not enough redemption for me to not still think of Otto as an asshole.

93. The Little Mermaid (2023). 2.5/5.

I like Hailie Bailey but the rest of this cast...mm.

92. Final Destination 3. 2.5/5.

Easily my least favorite of the Final Destination franchise.

91. Champions. 2.5/5.

Woody Harrelson coaching a special needs Basketball team has its moments.

90. Extraction 2. 2.5/5.

Didn't see the first one, but the fight scenes here were enough to carry the film at least this high.

89. The Flash. 2.5/5.

Warner Bros banked everything on a movie that harbors a scene that basically parades around long-dead actors in disgusting CGI.

88. Zom 100: Bucket List Of The Dead. 2.5/5.

Not sure how this holds to the anime or manga, but on its own it's fine I suppose.

87. Mars Attacks. 2.5/5.

A deeply bizarre film but some fun moments here and there.

86. The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It. 2.5/5.

Weakest Conjuring movie so far and it's not really close.

85. Barnyard. 2.5/5.

I liked this movie a lot more as a kid, but I respect it still as an oddity.

84. The Grinch (2018). 2.5/5.

One of the Christmas movies of all time.

83. Infinity Pool 2.5/5.

Deeply disturbing Nipple scene, I cannot.

82. Theater Camp. 3/5

Great cast, but need better material.

81. Renfield. 3/5.

No one matches the greatness of Nicolas Cage as Dracula.

80. Trilogy of Terror. 3/5.

The last story, "Amelia" is the most terror-fueled of the three stories.

79. Final Destination 4. 3/5.

One, it should've been called FD4 instead of "The Final Destination" because that's too confusing, and two, it has the weakest opening death scene of the bunch.

78. Private Parts. 3/5.

Howard Stern's rise to the top is mildly entertaining.

77. Blue Beetle. 3/5.

I like it when George Lopez gets work.

76. Kick-Ass 3/5.

No pun intended, but the fight scenes are pretty kick-ass.

75. Tetris. 3/5.

The second the guy stepped foot in Russia I sorta clocked out mentally.

74. No Hard Feelings. 3/5.

Jennifer Lawrence beating up teens while naked makes her an icon.

73. Totally Killer. 3/5.

A slasher mixed with time travel elements contributes to a fun film.

72. The Woman King. 3/5.

Powerful cast, but the subject matter didn't move me as much as I wanted it to.

71. Strange World. 3/5.

Nowhere near Disney's best, but it's got its moments.

70. Prometheus. 3/5.

I like how it's a prequel to the Alien movies.

69. Mission Impossible. 3/5.

The very first one feels tame, but I'm hoping the rest get more over the top as I try and go through them.

68. Dungeons & Dragons. 3/5.

I'm not into D&D, the game, but the movie was decent.

67. Insidious. 3/5.

Patrick Wilson was better in this than in Conjuring three. Wild.

66. The Last Voyage of the Demeter. 3/5.

It has its moments, but a vampire picking off shipmates drags too much, surprisingly.

65. The Boys of St. Vincent. 3/5.

This movie is why I don't fuck with the Catholic Church and why I make fun of them.

64. Rashomon. 3/5.

Classic movie involving an unreliable narrator trope, but I have a hard time feeling movies that came out before 1970.

63. Seven Kings Must Die. 3/5.

The movie sendoff for the show, The Last Kingdom, is better than the show's last three seasons.

62. Drunken Master. 3/5.

It has some nice fight choreography, but Jackie Chan has a better kung fu flick.

61. Stephen King's Cat's Eye. 3.5/5.

A better version of the Trilogy of Terror with better stories.

60. Silver Linings Playbook. 3.5/5.

Romcom with Jennifer Lawrence and Bradly Cooper is more devastating than funny.

59. You People. 3.5/5.

Eddie Murphy and Jonah Hill are a fine duo for most of the film.

58. Cocaine Bear. 3.5/5.

Fun, but I was hoping for it to be more chaotic than it was.

57. Antman & The Wasp: Quantumania. 3.5/5.

Yes, its flawed in many ways, but I don't care cause I like how ugly MODOK looks and Paul Rudd.

56. Terrifier. 3.5/5.

Murderous clown rampage made some good content for a little bit.

55. The Blackening. 3.5/5.

A really funny take on the horror genre and black people in horror films.

54. Loaded Weapon 1. 3.5/5.

A parody film reminiscent of The Naked Gun or Scary movie franchise in some ways and I love that.

53. Lethal Weapon 1. 3.5/5.

Loaded Weapon 1 working off of a classic like this makes sense to me.

52. Don't Breathe 2. 3.5/5.

As someone who didn't see the first one, but ended up seeing this, I think there's some enjoyment in seeing a blind old man harm bad guys.

51. A Disturbance In The Force. 3.5/5.

A documentary about the horrid Star Wars Christmas special is honestly enlightening.

50. Nimona. 3.5/5.

Adequate animation coupled with likable leads give a good time for animation fans.

49. Rise of The Planet of The Apes. 3.5/5.

Caesar yelling "NO" gave me chills, bruh.

48. Stephen King's IT (1990). 3.5/5.

Tim Curry's Pennywise will forever be iconic.

47. Asteroid City. 3.5/5.

For a first ever viewing of a Wes Anderson film, it was a bit confusing at times, but fascinating nonetheless.

46. M3GAN. 3.5/5.

M3GAN was serving the entire time.

45. Kung Fu Panda 3. 3.5/5.

The weakest of the KFP movies, but still has a good main villain.

44. Fearless Hyena. 3.5/5.

This is the other better Jackie Chan movie I was talking about.

43. Elemental. 3.5/5.

The best love story ever told...not really, but it's cute.

42. Tangled. 3.5/5.

Also cute, but I can't look past the age gap.

41. X. 3.5/5.

Mia Goth was serving as well in this horror prequel to Pearl.

40. A.I. 3.5/5.

Very ambitious Spielberg project with tinge of creepiness that I'm unsure if it was intentional or not.

39. Violet Evergarden: The Movie. 3.5/5.

Gorgeous animation, likeable characters, HUGE problem with that age gap.

38. We The Animals. 3.5/5.

Based on a true story, I feel for the plight of these young boys.

37. Jackass Forever. 3.5/5.

Idiots doing dangerous stunts even in their older age remains idiotic fun.

36. Interview With A Vampire. 3.5/5.

Leagues above Dark Shadows as a vampire movie.

35. The Super Mario Bros Movie. 3.5/5.

Lovely animation and a fun take on the Mario franchise in spite of underwhelming voice performances from some, but not all.

34. Final Destination. 3.5/5.

The first one set a pretty high bar to top in its franchise.

33. Suzume. 3.5/5.

It's a good time, but there are opportunities not taken here that infuriate me.

32. Final Destination 2. 3.5/5.

The first scene on the highway is the best scene of anything the franchise provided.

31. The Princess Bride. 3.5/5.

Oh my god, I miss Andre The Giant.

30. Scream 6. 3.5/5.

There is a reason this franchise is arguably the king of the slashers.

29. Juice. 3.5/5.

Oh my GOD I miss Tupac TOO.

28. Knock at The Cabin. 3.5/5.

The classic Shyamalan twist is predictable, but it's still a pretty entertaining movie.

Soldier is intent on not letting Nazis take his gold and goddammit I GOTTA respect it.

Maybe the most fun of those kinds of thriller screenlife-type movies.

25. Atlantis: The Lost Empire. 3.5/5.

An underrated Disney classic I wish I saw sooner.

24. The Princess and The Frog. 3.5/5.

Dr. Facilier is one of Disney's coolest villains and his song is one of my favorites ever.

23. Beau is Afraid. 3.5/5.

Did NOT need to be 3 hours, but it definitely wasn't boring.

22. Alienoid. 4/5.

Time Travelling shenanigans lead to unbelievable fun adventure.

21. Venture Bros: Radiant Is the blood of the Baboon heart. 4/5

A beautiful, possible, send off to an underrated Adult Swim TV show.

20. Call. 4/5.

More time travelling shenanigans involved that I like for the most part until the dark ending.

19. One Piece Film: Red. 4/5.

I love One Piece to bits and this film satisfied me immensely as a One Piece fan.

18. Air. 4/5.

Better version of the Tetris movie.

17. Dredd. 4/5.

I respect that Karl Urban never once took off the helmet.

16. Evil Dead Rise. 4/5.

Bloodiest, goriest spectacle that's a triumph.

15. Edge of Tomorrow. 4/5.

In spite of Tom Cruise's flaws, damn if he isn't a movie star.

14. Fargo. 4/5.

Watching all the seasons of the show before seeing the film is really eye-opening to see where the seasons got their influence from.

13. High Fidelity. 4/5.

I could listen to the guys in the film talk about music all day.

12. Fahrenheit 11/9. 4/5.

I got so mad watching this documentary.

11. Speed. 4/5.

Everything on the bus to "Pop Quiz Hot shot" is pure cinema.

10. Oppenheimer. 4/5.

Human meditation on one of the most devastating acts pulled off in human history makes for troubling watch.

9. They Cloned Tyrone. 4/5.

Tyrone gets cloned and its sublime.

8. Another Round. 4/5.

A simplistic premise of seeing how far the human body can indulge while still working is so damn good.

7. Barbie. 4/5.

Not only is its message thought-provoking but it's funny as hell.

6. The Menu. 4/5.

Between this and The Bear, this was a good year for me and cooking-related media I watched.

5. Puss in Boots: The Last Wish. 4/5.

Stunning animation, and two excellent antagonists help lend to a stellar animated film.

4. Prisoners. 4/5.

Hugh Jackman losing his shit makes for compelling watch.

3. John Wick 4. 4.5/5.

Action so good I could watch this forever.

2. Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse. 4.5/5.

If it was like ten minutes longer, it would be at my number one.

Guardians of The Galaxy Volume 3. 4.5/5. I almost cried over a CGI raccoon, you bet your ass its my movie of the year.

Yule Be Merry (Part One)

12 days of fictmas - day 10

I love Christmas and had to jump on the chance to participate again this year for 12 days of Fictmas hosted by @emichelle and @leelee10898 🎄.

For day 10 my prompt was wreath.

As usually happens when I get into a story mood, it ends up becoming bigger than I can handle in one sitting. (Kinda like Christmas dinner does to me too, tbh 😄)

This story is set in the Royal Finale universe, as the Royal Heir has reached four years of age, but I've totally avoided all of the via imperii crap because there's nothing festive or fun about it.

Content warnings: So far none, this is basically fluff. But who knows where the next parts might take us. 😉

Romantic pairing: Drake Walker and his wife Kate (MC)

It's December 20th in Cordonia. In the capital the citizens are busy preparing for Christmas. At the Royal Palace a happy holiday tradition has been revived after many years; The Yuletide Festival. Representatives from neighboring countries as well as the Cordonian Duchies were invited to celebrate during the four days of events. This year Princess Brooklyn Walker of Valtoria, the heir to the throne, was the guest of honor.

In his office, King Liam is meeting with the heads of various festival committees, each having a small army of staff and festival volunteers at their disposal. His Stepmother Regina was in charge of coordinating international and noble guests and their itineraries, Maxwell Beaumont was in charge of entertainment, while Hana Lee was heading the decorations for each event. Liam picks up the pen from his desk and looks down the list in front of him. He points his pen toward each person as he addresses the items on his list.

"Regina, have all the guests arrived and confirmed their attendance for tomorrow's Welcome Gala?"

"Most have, Your Highness," she replies, checking the guest list on her phone.

"Most?" Liam's eyebrows rise, "Are there any concerns?"

"The Walkers haven't arrived yet, but we've received confirmation that they will be here today and are participating in each event."

Maxwell emits a chuckling snort, opening his mouth to comment but Hana gives him a warning glance and he shuts up again.

"Do you have something to add, Lord Maxwell?" Liam asks with a sigh.

Maxwell shrugs, "Well they better be here today, cuz Princess Brooklyn is the one everyone's here to see,..they can't skip out on their own party."

Liam frowns, making a note on his paper, "Lord Maxwell, since you're so concerned about them being here on time, why don't you send them a friendly message for me? See what's keeping them, and then let me know."

Maxwell grins, eagerly picking up his phone, his thumb already swiping the screen. Liam shakes his head and clears his throat, motioning for him to drop it. "Ahem, after our meeting is over, please."

"Oh, right," Max says quietly, giving Liam his full attention again.

Liam nods, then goes back to his list, addressing Regina again, "You said 'Most' of our guests have either arrived or confirmed, are there any other concerns…"

While Liam and Regina talk about other guests, Hana notices how Maxwell seems to be fidgeting in his seat and keeps glancing down at his phone. She pats Maxwell on the arm, leaning in to whisper in his ear, "You're wound up pretty tight. How much coffee have you had this morning?"

Maxwell shrugs, crossing and then uncrossing his legs. Brushing off her concerns with a smirk and a wave of his hand, he whispers back. "Nothing more than my..my usual. Don't worry about me. I've got everything under control."

"You don't look under control to me," She replies with concern.

"Lord Maxwell," Liam, speaks up.

Maxwell jumps, blinking, "Yes, Your Majesty?"

"What's the status of the music you have lined up for the festival?" Liam asks, tapping his pen against the next section of his list.

Maxwell's expression brightens, happy to have something to contribute, "Various parts of the Cordonian Philharmonic Orchestra have agreed to play throughout the festival," he ticks off events on his fingers, "For the Welcome Gala and the Yule Banquet there's a string quartet. For the Winter Ball there's going to be a live band with a piano backing the vocalist."

Liam nods, impressed, "And what about the Festival of Trees?"

"Olivia has handpicked a group of Lythikos carolers, and a children's choir for me."

Hana's smile falters, "Lythikos carolers? You better check in with the Choirmaster about what songs they plan to sing. Traditional Lythikos Blood Hymns might not go over well here in the Capital with the international crowd."

Liam nods, addressing Hana, "Good point. So for the Festival of Trees, have the trees and wreaths from each duchy participating arrived yet?"

Hana smiles, "Yes, and the garden courtyard outside of the main ballroom has been decorated like a winter wonderland to showcase them."

Liam looks down at the Yule Festival itinerary of events in front of him.

"What about the other venues, are they ready as well?"

Hana hands him a paper with photos detailing the types of decor for each event. "The throne room, main ballroom, and banquet hall are all set. The Palace Kitchens and extra catering staff are preparing as we speak."

Liam looks over the photos, feeling a nervous excitement welling up inside. The grandeur of a festival this size rivaled his own Coronation in international attention. The first four years of his reign had been rocky ones, and now that there was a relative peace among Cordonia and its neighbors, it was nice to have something to celebrate again.

Liam sits back in his seat with a warm smile of gratitude, putting everyone at ease.

"Alright then, thank-you for coming. I'm sure you all have your own people to check in with, and your own personal arrangements to make. I'll check in with the KingsGuard next to make sure everything is secure. See you at the Gala tomorrow."

Two hours north of the Capital in Duchy Valtoria, the Duke and Duchess are finishing their packing and getting ready to leave. While Kate Walker double checks that each of their many suitcases are properly packed, her four year old daughter Brooklyn plays on the other side of the bedroom with their four corgis. They yip and bark as they huff and scramble to get to the stuffed reindeer toy first as she keeps tossing it for them. Brooklyn giggles and squeals with laughter as they tackle each other for the toy and then jump into her lap to lick her face when they return the toy to her.

Kate smiles with amusement, even though she disapproves, "Take it easy on them Beanie, they only have little legs and running and wrestling tires them out, especially Charlie. Besides you're getting your travel clothes all covered in doggy hair. Why don't you give them a break, and go down to your room to change? Ok, Beanie? I'll let them go out on the balcony to cool off and get a breather while you're gone."

"Aww, Mommy. But I'm going to miss them so much while we're gone. Can I take Charlie with me, at least? He won't be any trouble," Brooklyn pleads.

Kate picks up the soggy reindeer toy delicately by its ear, and then leads the dogs to the balcony door. Charlie stays behind, laying his head in Brooklyn's lap, rolling over onto his back with his mouth gaping open and his long pink tongue lolling to the side. Brooklyn rubs his furry belly and watches him kick and peddle his back legs happily.

Kate wipes her hands on her jeans with a sigh, "Ok, fine. Take Charlie down to your room, for now. But when it's time to leave he has to stay here with the others. You'll see him again on Christmas day when we come home."

Brooklyn gets up from the floor, running over to give her mother a brief hug around the waist, and then heads for the door with Charlie plodding along at her heels. "Ok, Mommy. Love you…...C'mon Charlie, help me pick out some clothes."

After Brooklyn leaves, Kate looks toward the hallway to the ensuite bathroom. Drake hadn't returned yet from the closet, where he was picking out his formal wear. Glancing at her phone to check the time, Kate pulls a worried face. They had to leave in less than twenty minutes. She calls out to Drake as she heads over to see what was taking him so long.

"Drake, Honey? We have to leave soon. Just pick out something and then we can go."

Stopping in the doorway she watches him paw through his suits with a frown of frustration on his face. On the bench, his old grey suit and trousers were laid out, along with several pairs of different colored dress shoes.

When he notices Kate watching him, he gives the hanging suit jackets an angry shove and then throws his hands up.

"Help..me!" He barks. "I don't know if I should just bring the one suit, and hope nobody cares, or if I'm supposed to coordinate my clothes with yours and Brooklyn's."

Kate brings up the Yuletide Festival details that she had received from Hana by email on her phone, hoping for some help.

"Haven't you attended the Yuletide Festival before?" Kate mumbles, glancing up from her phone.

Drake runs his hands through his hair, and then scrubs his bearded cheeks and chin feeling slightly embarrassed. "Not for a long time, and I was a single guy and hardly high society material at the time."

Kate gives him a sympathetic look as she reads off the first event.

"So have you been to the Welcome Gala before?"

Drake gives a dismissive chuckle, "Liam would always invite me, but I wouldn't be caught dead at the time in a borrowed suit trying to make small talk with foreign royalty and upper crust nobles. I would probably just make an ass of myself and embarrass Liam somehow." Drake cringes as he remembers, "Back when Savvy was in her teens she begged me one year to take her to the gala so she could meet some of the fancy guests. I told her 'no, because then it would look like she was my date and that would be awkward as fuck'.. Of course that pissed her off, and she refused to talk to me for days afterward. Sure was a quiet Christmas that year."

Kate shakes a scolding finger at him with a smirk, "Well it's a good thing that you've had four years of Duke practice, so now you can bullshit and glad-hand your way through the evening just as well as the rest of em."

Drake chuckles back at her, "But what do I wear to this pretentious holiday cocktail party? What are you and Beanie wearing?"

Kate looks down at her email again, "Well, according to Hana, since Brooklyn is the guest of honor, we should colour coordinate. There are going to be photos taken as well."

Drake turns to look in the mirror. His shaggy brown locks were anything but tidy, nor was the month of beard he was hiding behind. Reaching into his back pocket he pulls out the old plastic comb he'd been carrying around for years. A few teeth were missing, but it still worked. After giving his hair a quick combing he sighs in disappointment, "I think I'll need a haircut and a shave before the gala. Definitely not photo ready."

Stepping up behind him and wrapping her arms around his chest, Kate lays her cheek against the back of his shoulder. "Your long hair and beard is still sexy as hell to me. You're my mountain man first, Brooklyn's Daddy second and a Duke underneath all that a distant third. If you'll allow me, I could cut your hair for you?"

Scratching at his cheek he says, "I trust you enough to cut my hair, I guess. But I'll trim my own beard, thanks."

When Kate's phone buzzes, Drake can feel it against his chest. "You're being paged, feels important."

Taking the phone out of her hand he glances down. "You have a text from Maxwell."

Stepping away from the warm surface of his back, Kate asks, "What's he saying?"

Drake drags down the notification bar to read the text. After a few seconds he chuckles. "He's asking: So what's keeping you guys? Please tell me Yule be here soon? You're going to miss the best of the festivus, so come celebrate with the rest of us."

"Oh, Max." Kate laughs, turning to look through Drake's dress clothes. "Tell him we're on our way."

Drake pecks out a quick text response before handing her phone back, "Ok, done."

Kate sucks in a deep breath, tucking her phone back in her pocket, letting out a sigh as she pulls a black suit jacket with matching trousers and hands him the hook of the hanger. "Ok, since Brooklyn and I are wearing a Christmassy shade of red you should too."

Drake replies with a quirk of his eyebrow, "But this is black."

"I know that, Mr. Smarty Pants. But I figured you could carry this same black jacket through different formal events and just change the color of your shirt and tie. Bring your grey suit too, as a backup. "

After pushing some rarely worn dress shirts aside she chooses one in a deep cranberry red. "Here this should work."

Drake tucks the shirt inside the jacket, turning around to look in the mirror as he holds the clothes in front of himself. "Do I have to wear a tie?"

Kate opens a shallow drawer where all of Drake's ties are neatly arranged, "I'm sorry, yes you do. Hmm, but which one?"

"Most of my ties are black, blue or grey. So it shouldn't be too difficult." He remarks, hanging his suit back up in an empty space. While Kate looks through his ties, he picks out his most comfortable black shoes and buffs the tops with a nearby rag.

Turning around, Drake bumps into Kate as she lands flush against his chest with a black tie in her hands. He catches her by the shoulders with a smile, "Oof, attacking me with my own finery? Could there be another reason you're so enthusiastic about dressing me up that has nothing to do with being festive?"

Kate pushes against his chest, but he wraps his arms around her to hold her still. Looking up at him and giggling at the mischievous grin on his face, she rolls her eyes and says, "Oh no, my secret is out in the open."

Sliding his hands slowly down her back and leaning in to kiss her neck, he growls playfully, "Oh, and what secret is that?"

Kate squirms and pushes back harder when his beard tickles her skin. He lets her go and steps back with a look of disappointment. "I thought you said my beard was sexy?"

After handing him a black tie with gold pinstriping, she takes another step back. "I said it looked sexy on you, but scruffed up against my skin it doesn't feel so sexy. But to finish what I was trying to say about my secret. It's as plain as all the fancy shmancy stuff that lines your closet. My favorite part of dressing you up in all this handsome finery is watching you take it all off later."

Looping his tie around his neck and fashioning a quick knot he lowers his voice and waggles his eyebrows suggestively, "While I do enjoy getting naked just for you, if the fancy stuff is such a turn on, maybe later tonight I'll wear only the tie."

The husky tone of his voice brings a sudden heat that fills up her cheeks and an appreciative smile to her lips. Grabbing his tie, she tugs him closer. When he leans in for a kiss, feeling encouraged that his flirting has worked, he runs into the denial of her pulling away. When she undoes the knot and pulls off his tie, turning to tuck it into the pocket of his suit jacket he feels even more dejected.

"Oh, come on," he protests.

Kate goes back to looking through his dress shirts, "I'm sorry, Drake. But as tempting as the thought of you in only a tie might be, you're clearly trying to distract me from picking out your clothes."

"Am not," he replies defensively.

"Uh huh, sure. You've been dressing yourself for formal events for years now. There's got to be some other reason you're holding us up from leaving."

Kate pulls two crisp white shirts down and turns to hand them to him. She's met with his folded arms and a scowling frown.

"Two more white shirts?" He barks, not wanting to take them.

"Well yes, one to wear to the Yule Banquet and the other for the Winter Ball on Christmas Eve."

Drake takes them and throws them down onto the bench with his grey suit.

"And if I don't want to attend either?"

Kate sighs, folding her arms. "Ok, out with it. What's really eating you?"

Drake shoves his clothes aside and sits down on the bench. "Well maybe I'm not in the mood to spend the next few days celebrating Christmas with a big group of strangers so publicly."

"Well nobody says you have to talk to and make friends with everybody. I'll be there too, in case you get tired of shaking hands and doing introductions. Besides it's Brooklyn's official debut as the Royal Heir, so we kind of have to be there. You get to play proud Daddy for four days. Liam is expecting us, and we've already confirmed we're on our way."

"Yeah, Liam." Drake grumbles, folding his arms and looking down at the floor.

Kate shakes her head and then turns back to pull open his drawer of ties again. She picks out a black bowtie and a basic navy blue one.

"Two more ties? Seriously?"

"I'm just thinking about how sexy we're going to look for the Winter Ball. You in your black suit and bowtie, with me in your arms as we twirl around the dance floor. Plus for the banquet I plan to wear a blue dress, hence the blue tie."

Drake strokes his bearded chin thoughtfully, trying to picture what dress Kate is going to be wearing to the ball. "Ok, I'm listening. What about Beanie? I'm assuming the ball isn't exactly a family affair."

"According to the emailed itinerary, there's going to be a supervised Family Movie night in the media room on Christmas Eve as well. So she should be well looked after."

Drake breathes a deep sigh of resignation, "So I guess if our itinerary is set and we're being expected there's no backing out now."

Kate walks over to hug Drake around the shoulders, stepping into his arms as he hugs her around the middle. Pressing a kiss into his hair, she feels his arms tighten around her. "Nope, no skipping out on this party I'm afraid. It's Christmas time, and we're spending it with our friends. Don't worry about all the rest, it's supposed to be fun, remember?"

Drake closes his eyes and murmurs against the soft pillow of her chest as he feels Kate stroke his hair, "I'm only doing this for you and Brooklyn. Somebody has to watch over you both and keep you safe."

Kate can't help but feel the warmth spreading through her chest at his loving words as she returns the sentiment, "And it's our job to make sure you have the best Christmas ever."

Out in the bedroom the double doors burst open and Brooklyn comes running in with Charlie hustling along at her heels. "Mommy, Daddy? It's time to go!"

Drake and Kate share a quiet chuckle as they part.

"We better have a Merry Christmas, our little Princess demands it," Kate says. "Now help me gather your things so we can go."

"Yes, ma'am. The festival awaits," Drake replies

💐Fri 4 Dec ‘20 🌍

Cooking competitions were fought, flower shops were opened, petitions were signed, and today was all in all a lovely, gentle sort of day!

Before last night’s Variety show, real!Harry popped back on instagram to tell Kid Harpoon that the producer award he got was “Fake News” and to “Stop the Count”. Look if Harry wants to keep showing more personality on Instagram I WANT TO SEE IT! Then Variety’s show aired, and Niall and Harry were “there”: Niall presented Lewis Capaldi’s “songwriter of the year” award (in response to it, Lewis thanked the other songwriters for “being a worse songwriter than me”), and Harry, of course, was the Hitmaker of the year! He was introduced by a lot of Big Industry People who all decided to say that they were, uh, so proud of him for leaving a boyband and becoming a rock star? Ah, good, that means it’s the “elitist music takes” segment of the hour. When are people gonna realize that shitting on a really successful, record breaking band in order to say nice things about Harry (one of its members!) is not the compliment they think it is. Nick Kroll's longer intro was at least more interesting, sharing some DWD set moments, confirmed that Harry is a ‘manly man’, and jokingly said that he and his wife and Harry have become a throuple (ANOTHER threesome? Really Harry?). Harry then showed up, looking pretty tired (he’s been doing very long hours, guys!) and wearing his dick banana necklace, and said, “Thanks to [my team] and everyone who supported me through it...thanks to the label for leaving me alone..this is...cool. Cool. I’m gonna get back in the studio”. Cool!

Anyways, that discourse was quickly overtaken by the revelation that Harry DID pay his touring crew back in the spring when his tour was postponed: it came from a local Belgian publication in Ghent, where a man named Yves Van Acker has opened a flower shop (yes I DO think that this sounds like the beginning of a fairy tale!). Anyways, Yves has toured with a number of famous bands over the years, Harry being most recent. “The entire crew was suddenly out of work,” Yves said of Love On Tour’s crew, “But Harry Styles did not want to leave us. Each member was therefore paid an amount. A nice gesture, on which I decided to do something positive with this latest income”. A few things about this 1.) it was not just a nice gesture, it’s the Right Thing to DO! He’s paying people for work he hired them to do! 2.) It's wonderful enough to see, in fact, that it really isn't actually necessary to inflate: the employee told us that he received an amount, clearly a decent amount (enough to open a business), but we do not know if he was given his full wages. It sure is amazing though! And 3.) he named bouquets of flowers after Harry songs! He has “Adore You”, “Golden”, “Canyon Moon”, and “Ever Since New York”, but not, shockingly enough, “Sunflower Vol 6” - COME ON! It’s RIGHT THERE! Anyways, I adore Harry and I want everyone to know that - he does always do his best to be kind.

Liam has a new COVER out, and one of my favorite songs: “Waiting on the World to Change” by John Mayer! The cover is for UNICEF Changemaker, and Liam says that he’s “proud to support them in any way I can”. Okay I’m a NERD so I’m about to rant about how this was the PERFECT song for Liam. The first is his RANGE: he gave the song a really gravelly, soulful sound that it deserves, and his falsettos are SO GOOD that he hits the high notes EASILY. The second are the LYRICS of the song! Literally: “It's hard to beat the system when we're standing at a distance” and “and when you trust your television, what you get is what you got; ‘cause when they own the information, they can bend it all they want”. UGH CHILLS! But that was NOT ALL for Liam, who made a guest appearance on Abby Robert’s YouTube channel in a cook off competition! They made roasted potatoes and Yule Logs (weird combo but okay), and chatted about Christmas traditions a bit. Liam said that he actually DOES do quite a bit of cooking on Christmas because he liked to watch the “tea” go down but not be a part of it (Liam do you read this blog? Was that a hint??). Anyways, he also said that he spends every Christmas with his son, because “Christmas is about kids” (Abby Roberts did a HARD eye roll it was very funny), he put out a fire (firefighter!Liam), and he dropped a boiled potato and lots of powdered sugar. Liam won for his potatoes and Abby won for the Yule Log, and *I* got really hungry. “Don’t set your kitchens on fire,” Liam warns cheerily at the end of the video. Yeahhhh, thanks for that! And now for Liam’s short but lovely content: his alarm this morning said, “It’s that Friday feeling” and then he and Roman talked about their holiday plans - Liam with his fam, Roman with his booze and Karaoke (“I’ll be doing strip that down in front of my mum”. Yeah, cuz that’s not weird at all), and they FINALLY released their bedtime story - It’s twenty minutes long and it’s called “Bedtime Bromance” (can’t wait to hear it!). He also posted an Instagram story of himself in a recording studio in Stockholm singing “Last First Kiss”. “Back to Where it All Started,” the caption read. :{)

And now for Niall and Louis, both of whom are taking up some social issues! Sam Fender (who got into a bit of hot water yesterday for, uh, a joke about Louis’ fans and our key smashing tendencies alkdjfladj) called on the UK-based “Tomlinators” (lmao no <3) to sign a petition which requires local governments to have free helplines for the homeless and vulnerable. And, of course, fans got right on that and helped Sam reach his goal! Oh, wait, no, that DIDN’T happen - instead, fans jumped down his throat for, uh, clout chasing?? And they told him that he couldn’t get away with mocking us and expect us to HELP him!! YEAH GUYS! How DARE he try to use his influence to make a difference?? Anyways, Louis was clearly super mad, you could tell by how he liked the tweet, retweeted the petition, and then said, “Very important cause. If you’re a UK resident please sign!”. As of right now, the petition sits at 10,000 out of 100,000 signatures needed, so. Let’s get it done! Niall is also going to do some community work: he will be at Comhairle Na Nog’s meeting ( it’s an Irish child and youth councils in Ireland) on Saturday giving a shout out to the kids who have been working on projects and in their community despite lockdown. Awww, best of luck to both of them in their very worthy causes.
