Chapter Summary:

Previously, after arriving in December, Clark stayed behind while Meryl headed into the Bernardelli office. Meryl literally bumped into the newbie, Milly Thompson, and aired her concerns about the girl to the Chief. Now, Lord Manga Khan opens up ‘trade negotiations’ with No Man’s Land, sending the newsroom and city into a panic. What does this alien barterer really want?

Story Summary:

Two years after Lost July, an interdimensional rift becomes dangerously unstable, opening a portal between universes—the worlds of No Man’s Land and Earth-12.

Outlaw Vash the Stampede is still MIA, although rumors abound. Despite not knowing if Vash is truly alive, both Meryl Stryfe and Wolfwood catch a lead pointing them to a remote town iles away.

Elsewhere, young Clark Kent’s life is turned upside down when he’s dragged to an unfamiliar planet to help as Superman. Lois Lane and Jimmy Olsen follow his trail with some unlikely assistance.

Two heroes must make new allies to fight ruthless villains in a three-way conflict. All while trying to find where they both belong, face their inner demons, and make a better future for their worlds.

Chapter 11 Snippet:

Clark usually could temper his curiosity, but the dead silence of the crowd perturbed him. He made his way closer to see what was going on.

The cafe’s window was wide open, and sitting on the counter nearby was an old-fashioned radio. Whatever was broadcasting seemed to have caught this crowd’s attention. Clark shuffled over, standing behind the other customers, where he could also listen in.

Meryl placed her mug down on Milly’s desk and pulled the strap of her bag over her head, depositing it on the floor.

Milly perked up, noticing Meryl walk over, and gave her a big, happy smile.

Before either had a chance to speak, another colleague spoke loudly from the other side of the office.

“Hey, turn the radio up!”

Dofus: The Production - reviewing the artbook

This post won't go too deep in detail, it's just my commentary on the artbook — but the next (or, well, one after the next), post will be me doing some actual research outside of it. I recommend you to buy the artbook, and go see its contents for yourself, if you're curious about it. (or download it. It's been scanned to hell and back...)

God, this makes me deranged and insane. Even being baby does not stop Kerubim from loving Joris's jokes... I'm insane...

This part of the artbook has always scared me because like... Does he kill people in Dofus 2, Tot?. Does he.?

Epic events is a funny way to refer to this movie's unending barrage of traumatic events, but man, we were kinda robbed of cool draconic winged Joris. That's sad.

I won't include too much art from the artbook if I can help it, but I wanted to report that this is a very good art and theres a lot of love and um and they love each other and um and [CAR CRASH] [GLASS SHATTERING] ‘GOOD LORD!’ [GENERAL COMMOTION] [BABY CRYING] ‘WAAAAH WAAAAH’ [YELLING] [POLICE SIRENS] WEEWOO WEEWOO [HELICOPTERS] ‘WE’RE REPORTING LIVE-‘ [EXPLOSION] ‘MY LEG… MY LEG…’

I wish I knew what the fuck Tot meant by this. However, knowing that Pupuce is Kerubim's pet, who just liked her owner's kid more than her owner, has fueled some of my headcanons for years and years:

This version of his armour matches the one we could see in the Dofus Manga. :)

I find it quite fascinating that at one point, it was considered for Julith to be an osamodas huppermage, considering it was theorized for some time that Joris might be an osamodas.

I wouldn't call her a tender mother, but eh. She's more of a... "very loving yet despaired mother who doesn't even know her son" mother. A "wants to get back the past which will never return to the point of putting her son into the torture nexus" mother. A "has love in her that is so mentally disturbed" mother. AND I LOVE HER FOR IT!!

I know that her being an alcoholic is a retcon that Dessous did, but its such a good one. I think it's a good show of her decade of slow slippage of sanity. Comic retcons win over Tot's ideas for all Joris-related media once again.

These two huppermages from the movie's concept art were reused in season 4 of Wakfu. Though it would be easier to say what in season 4 of Wakfu isn't reused stuff considering the "shoestring and a piece of chewed gum" budget it was made on...

God, him petting a pupuce is the most important part of the artbook, save for perhaps...

THE KHAN & THE RED-LIGHT DISTRICT & JORIS UNDERAGE DRINKING SCENE

The fact that this was cut is the biggest personal tragedy of my entire life, and I am NOT joking.

Apparently, in this tavern, we were supposed to learn more of his backstory, — like how his father was a gobbowler, but sadly (or happily, if you really hate Khan) it was cut.

But listen. Khan would go to some sexworkers to stare at them and do nothing. He's that much of a loser. He would take a 10yo as his drinking buddy.

This is where my headcanon that he buys Joris booze post-movie comes from, btw.

Compared to the movie's exaggerated visions of Kerubim crying, these images feel like something Joris would remember seeing in real life, something he'd want to avoid.

It feels more real, than just his panicked visions.

JUSTICE LEAGUE INTERNATIONAL #14-15

June/July 1988

By Keith Giffen, J.M. DeMatteis, Steve Leialoha, Al Gordon, Gene D'Angelo, and Bob Lappan.

Lord Manga Khan and the Cluster arrives to barter with Earth, and if they do not make a decision before the deadline, they'll be all dead.

SCORE: 8

The book is slowly course-correcting its humor and will soon find its sweet spot (although the next arc will be quite scary). Fire and Ice (as Green Flame and Ice Maiden) joined the book with this story, G'Nort returned, and Manga Khan and L-Ron made their debut.

L-Ron in particular will be a popular character, joining the league in a couple of years (and even taking over Despero's body at some point).

These two issues end in a cliffhanger that will be resumed after a couple of issues, and in that way, the whole thing felt a little anti-climactic in the end. The cluster simply abandoned their mission after realizing they wouldn't have any profits.

At the same time, it was weird for Captain Atom not to realize he wouldn't be useful in space in the first place. For the most part, this Captain Atom is very different from the one in his own book.

Artistically speaking, You can tell in the page above that breakdowns were done by Giffen, but Leialoha is a bit of an odd choice for this book.

Maguire will return in a couple of issues, so this experiment didn't last too long. Not that it should make such a difference, with Giffen doing breakdowns, there is still a level of consistency in the book, no matter who does the art. Still, the facial expressions of Maguire make the book way hotter.

In any case, Mister Miracle ends up trapped (ironically) in the escaping ships, which will force Big Barda to get involved with the JLI (finally).

Chapter 12: Werewolf of December

Chapter Summary:

Previously, Meryl and Clark finally arrived in the city of December. Clark’s powers started to return, but they were acting up for some reason. Meryl met with Milly and the Chief to discuss her next story. Later, Lord Manga Khan hijacked the No Man’s Land satellite broadcast to make his offer to the people of the planet.

Now, Lord Manga begins his resource survey, sending scouts and a special ‘resource survey escort’ down to December to investigate (ahem, steal) the Plants. As this survey group tries to take a ‘sample’ for study, Superman confronts the thieves, and chaos ensues. Superman meets his match against ‘The Main Man.’

Story Summary:

Two years after Lost July, an interdimensional rift becomes dangerously unstable, opening a portal between universes—the worlds of No Man’s Land and Earth-12.

Outlaw Vash the Stampede is still MIA, although rumors abound. Despite not knowing if Vash is truly alive, both Meryl Stryfe and Wolfwood catch a lead pointing them to a remote town iles away.

Elsewhere, young Clark Kent’s life is turned upside down when he’s dragged to an unfamiliar planet to help as Superman. Lois Lane and Jimmy Olsen follow his trail with some unlikely assistance.

Two heroes must make new allies to fight ruthless villains in a three-way conflict. All while trying to find where they both belong, face their inner demons, and make a better future for their worlds.

Chapter 12 Snippet:

The scene was pure chaos as people pushed and shoved and screamed.

Emergency lights began flashing, and klaxons blared, drowning out most of the shouting.

Clark superspeed through the building, weaving in between workers with limbs sprawled out as they tried to run but were frozen in time. Their expressions locked in panic and confusion with wide eyes and open mouths. The chorus of noises shifted into a deep, drawn out tone like from the leftmost key on a piano.

Further inside, a grated, raised corridor opened up into a long, spacious room. Above and below were additional floors of similar platforms. 

Rows upon rows of bulb-like pods hung from the curved walls. Each pod was filled with some kind of cloudy fluid that glowed brightly in blue yet tinged purple from the red lights. Round, white objects floated in the center of each pod.

A number of uniformed security guards armed with police-grade handguns or patrol rifles faced the center of the room. 

Various shouts of “Return the Plant!” and “Stand down or we’ll shoot!” were directed at the obvious intruders near the guards. 

Clark quickly realized this must’ve been one of the Plant facilities Meryl had mentioned. 

A remarkably tall, muscular figure leaped forward at one of the guards, knocking the man forcefully into the railing along the edge of the corridor. The guard crumpled, his weapon clattering along the floor several feet away.

Surrounding the figure stood four equally bulky humanoid-shaped robots coated in a shiny, bronze-like plating. One robot manned some kind of machinery akin to a forklift, but it hovered weightlessly in the air. 

One of the cylindrical, liquid-filled pods was attached to the machine. Inside the pod, one of those white, round masses— roughly the shape of a beetroot or flower bud—bobbed delicately, cushioned within the viscous liquid.

Right after the next guard took a shot but missed, the brutish thief ripped the rifle out of his hands. The thief then quickly took the man down with a punch to his stomach.

Without wasting more time studying the room and situation, Clark sped over to the commotion in a blur.

When Supergirl gets fed up with not getting any credit from Superman, the two split (on admittedly pretty good terms considering the circumstances, as Superman is a humorously for the most part a strangely polite, dorky guy who just so happens to be a Supervillain), ultimately inspiring Batgirl to reexamine her own relationship with Batman…. Causing her to get fired When she asks for a raise. Having completely given up any semblance of a social life or picking up skills to get a normal job, Barbara is ready to sulk in her apartment forever… but of course, Kara isn't going to let that happen and, with ALOT of convincing, gets her to start her own criminal empire! Shenanigans ensue from there as Barbara slowly but surely gets into it, with a petty Batman occasionally trying to sabotage her when he can get away with it.

Angolmois: Record of Mongol Invasion Review

Before there was Jin Sakai, the Ghost of Tsushima, there was Kuchii Jinzaburō, the Sun God of Tsushima. 

Just binged watch this seriously underrated and brilliant historical anime about the Mongols Invasion of Japan. While Jin Sakai is known for being a Ghost due to his stealth and Ninja like attacks, Kuchii Jinzaburo is known for being like the Sun God of Tsushima, Tendou Houshi, for his ferocity in battle. This is what Yasuke anime could have been, without the robots, demons and magic, just swords, bows and arrows.

Blending real historical events, clans and characters such as Sō Sukekuni, the Lord of Tsushima, Hon Dagu, the Goryeo Commander of Yuan Forces, Hojo Clan, Shino Clan, Abiru Clan and even Emperor Antoku, with fictional ones. While historically, Antoku died as a child, drowning at sea when the Taira Clan was cornered by the Minamoto Clan during the final stages of Genpei War, in this anime, he survives and has his own Clan to defend Tsushima.

The anime is based on the manga series of the same name. The term Angolmois comes from the prophecies of Nostradamus about the reign of a great king of Angolmois, whom is said to be the one to destroy the world. Angolmois is intrepreted as being an anagram of the Latin word Mongolais or Mongolians, which is believed to be referring to none other than Genghis Khan.

While there is no small characters in this anime as every character is critical and unique in their own ways, serving different purpose with their own agendas and motives, which affects everyone in the show, the anime’s main two characters are Kuchii Jinzaburo and Princess Teruhi.

Kuchii is a former Samurai and Retainer from Kamakura who became an exile after losing his family. He was imprisoned and sent to Tsushima along with the other exiles but was caught in a storm during which he survived with a few others and was welcomed by the daughter of the Lord of Tsushima, much to his surprise as they were supposed to be imprisoned.

But he learns of the true motives of the Princess during a night feast when she commands them to fight for Tsushima against the Mongols instead, causing an uproar as fighting the Mongols are as good as being dead and have better chance of living as prisoners. However, after an assassination attempt on the Princess which made her more determined to protect her people, Kuchii finally agrees to help her, along with the support of the exiles.

One thing led to another, as Kuchii became acquainted with the So Clan thanks to the Princess. However, they got off the wrong foot when Kuchii became contempt with the Lord’s obsession with past glories of war and his complacency in fighting the coming war with the Mongols which will only put his men and people in jeopardy. Kuchii also learns why Teruhi was called a princess due to her precious bloodline to the Taira Clan which was eradicated during Genpei War.

While Kuchii and the exiles did not get along in the beginning due to their different standing and views of war and honor, they eventually learnt to work and fight together after their first defeat against the Mongols which resulted in the death of their Lord, leaving the So Clan under the command of his adopted son and daughter, Teruhi, who did not see eye to eye how to lead their Clan, until Kuchii intervenes to “wake them up”. 

From here on, they made their journey to the capital, hoping to regroup and make a stand but only to find it destroyed by the Mongols, so they had to keep on moving to find another safe spot to hide from, which causes low morale on the troops and civilians, as they ponder their fate and wonders how long do they need to keep running and surviving in this never ending war, where the enemies seem to be multiplying and help never seem to come.

Hope turned to despair and desperation, as some began to turn against their own people, for their own survival as hardship reveals the true colors of humanity. It’s an intriguing tale of survival and how you choose to live the last days of your lives, to either hide and wait for death to come at your door or to fight till the death, knowing you had tried your best to ensure your own survival. 

It is a must watch for anime and non-anime fans alike, whether you’re a history buff or not. Personally, I find the level of historical accuracy to be quite interesting in a sense that it actually shows the Mongol army consisting of Goryeo (Korea), Jurchen (Manchuria) and the Mongolians themselves which explains their massive fleet, just as explained by the YouTube history channel of Kings and Generals.  Kings and Generals videos:

Ahuahuahua the actor who did Nobu in the Toshiie drama was Genghis Khan in that one movie sksksldjfl

I had the manga adaptation but I never saw the movie, Lord, this is so crazy weird. I used to have WTF AU ideas Nobu in the steppes... Though, since that other weird manga actually kinda went and did it for real, and I actually detest the plotline, it ruined the imagery for me for a while.

Sorimachi also later did General Ōyama in another Taiga and I just wanna die laughing again because Ayakoi HAHAHHAHAHA
