1. Hi. Looking for this fic wherein wwx tried to prank lqr and the elders by acting like a Lan. It backfired because they thought wwx was possessed by Lan An, especially when jwy visited cloud recesses (almost causes a war between jiang and lan). For it to end, wwx pretended to be Lan An and said goodbye then fake fainted (as if Lan An left wwx’s body)

2. Hey, I'm looking for a wangxianfic, in which wei ying and lan zhan are already married. Wei ying goes on a night hunt with the juniors and gets hurt. I think it was a cut on the stomach with poison. Lan zhan cares for him but wei ying is almost dying. Lan zhan is davasteted and says that he can't wait for wei ying again. I'm not sure if this is something I think happened in a fic, or it really exists, but on the off-chance someone know what I'm talking about - the Sunshot Campaign ends differently with Wen Qing/Wen Ning in charge of the Qishan Wen, and as part of reparations(? Maybe?) the family vaults are revealed. Wen Qing warns people not to touch anything but JGS is too greedy and grabs something and dissolves in dust? i once read a fic where LWJ and WWX were stuck in the Xuanwu cave and WWX was i think on the verge of dying but then something emerges from the waters and gives LWJ a deal that if he gives up his voices then as an exchange he can save WWX's life which LWJ obviously does so his voice goes away but by the end of the fic Wangxian go back to the cave where LWJ gets his voice back because he once again strikes a deal with that creature giving up his immortality or something that has to do with him being worshipped for gaining his voice back. was a one shot that i remember clearly and was on ao3 platform also thank you so much cause this blog has bought me my favorite Wangxian fics.

5. help. hey i am certain the fanfics in my memories exist but they keep on eluding me so there are these 2 fics:

A) the premise of this story was time travel where modern WWX travels back in time when other WWX is living with the wens in the burial mounds when LWJ comes to the borders with his modern counterpart and when modern wangxian meet they have a sweet reunion in which they share a kiss after that they are joined by the hip much to the mortification of OG wangxian. WY's parents are dead (car accident) but madam Lan's alive and he calls her mother or mom and modern them is engaged they also have their phones by which they click a photo and after coming to modern world WY sees that as proof that it actually happened. read it on ao3 muti chaptered (completed) with either 4 or 6 chapters 6 being maximum

B) in this one the main Lan fam is captured body swap between WRH and LWJ occurs and after LWJ realizes what has happen he commands that his body's head be severed which is currently housing WRH's soul and LXC and LQR are present to see that happening and grieve over LWJ not knowing WRH was the one who died and LWJ doesn't inform them about the body swap but tells the guards to take LXC and LQR to their rooms he keeps his own body's severed head in his room also. LWJ asks guards to bring him WWX which they do but injured and WWX sees LWJ's severed head and gets angry he also practices to be more like WRH so nobody suspects this is the most clear i remember there were also i think one appearance of WQ and some from WX and WC was on ao3 ongoing atleast when i was reading think over 5 chapter but under 10 the last i had checked (i was so curios to know what happens next but i lost the fic)

6. Hello! This is for ficfinder, I have lost track of two fics, and would very much like assistance finding them again!

A ) an Addams family style modern au. I cannot remember the title, but Lan Wangji enjoyed the taste of Hemlock tea, Wei Wuxian always dressed in gothic clothes, A-Yuan keeps getting possessed, Wen Ning would die temporarily every now and then then, and the reason Lan Wangji went to Yiling in the first place was to find his mother (madam lan is alive in this one).

B ) Young Prince Lan Wangji fled the palace to avoid an arranged marriage, and met an older Wei Wuxian and traveled with him, keeping his identity a secret. Lan Zichen catches up with them after Wangxian have spent the night together (bottom LWJ), and Lan Zhan is taken back to the palace. Wei Wuxian returns to claim his hand, revealing himself as Baoshan Sanren’s heir. Fix ends with them watching their kids play in Lan Zhan’s mother’s garden.

At some point later on in the fic, Jin Zixuan and Jiang Yanli go to Cloud Recesses and they bring some food for Wangxian.

It was modern setting and maybe has cultivation still? wwx is a tattoo artist and I believe lwj saw some type dark energy out side his shop. So he went in and ending up saying he wanted a tattoo, wwx was who ended up talking to him about it and making him a design. I think it had something to do with bunnies and, then finally when the day came for lwj to get the tattoo. It’s a fic about how when wwx comes back to life he meets lxc instead of lwj in Mo manor. he asks for lwj and that confirms to lxc that he is wwx and not Mo xuanyu and asks him to go back with him to cloud recesses where he takes care of lwj who couldn’t heal after the 33 leash punishment.

At first wwx doesn’t want lwj to know that it’s him. He brings him bunnies and helps him re learn how to play the guqin(he cannot play it due to his injuries and because he hasn’t practiced since he was punished) lan Yuan helps wwx to learn how to play it and lwj starts being more active

Lxc is happy and let’s wwx go to a small one week vacation but lwj gets worse that week, he also discovers mxy is wwx I think

Lan Xichen arrives to his brother and Xuanyu in the middle of an argument.

They’re surrounded by corpses, Xue Yang inexplicably among them, and the missing Xiao Xingchen is standing there huddled against Song Lan’s side, looking strangely small, while a blind girl stands on his other side.

Sizhui and Jingyi are staying several steps back in an attempt not to get caught in the couple’s argument.

He almost regrets leaving A-Yao behind with the rest of the disciples. It had made sense at the time, with the low but present chance that they’d run into trouble, but now he wishes he could be the one dealing with their siblings instead of him.

“-not just going to – XICHEN-GE! GET DOWN HERE!”

The disciples, who’d demanded to come along, cringe away and even send him sympathetic looks.

She only calls him Xichen-ge when she wants something. He’s pretty sure A-Yao taught her that.

He descends, jumping off his sword, and frowning when he gets a closer look at her. She has wounds around her waist and shoulder even though they seemed to have stopped bleeding and there’s a variety of colorful bruises on the bits of skin he can see on her, which means there’s even more hiding beneath her robes. “You’re injured.”

“It’s nothing,” she says dismissively. Wangji’s eyebrow twitches. “I want Song Lan, Xiao Xingchen, and A-Qing to accompany us to Koi Tower.”

He assumes A-Qing is the blind girl. “Ah.”

“It’s not proper,” Wangji says, enough irritation bleeding though that this is clearly not the first time he’s said that.

She sends him a scathing look. “We can’t send them back to Cloud Recesses, Lan Qiren will eat them alive, and we can’t leave them alone. Look at them! Look around! They need help.”

“Ah, Madame Lan,” Song Lan says tentatively, “you’ve already done-”

“Shut up,” she says and his mouth snaps shut. Lan Xichen stares. He’s encountered Song Lan many times and has never seen him act like this. “Where are you going to go? What are you going to do? You deserve rest, all three of you, and while I would hardly call the Jin restful, it’s at least better than having to watch you back on the road.” She frowns. “Also, what’s with Madame Lan? Wangji’s eyes narrow and Song Lan smiles at Xuanyu before he catches sight of Wangji’s expression and then his lips thin out into a straight line.

Lan Xichen can already feel a headache building.

She’s only been missing for a few hours. How did any of this even happen?

If he wants to find out, then he’s going to have to give in to her. She won’t tell him anything otherwise, he assumes, because A-Yao definitely wouldn’t. Besides, he has no reason to deny her. She is Madame Lan and Lady Jin and she’s more than entitled to add people to their traveling party and to invite wandering cultivators to Koi Tower.

“The rest of our party is nearby,” he says finally. “We’re happy for you to join us.”

His brother glares at him, but what does he expect him to do? She’s Wangji's wife.

On the morning of Wei Wuxian's first day back at Lotus Pier, she wakes to the sound of raised voices in the audience room.

Squinting against the light, she stumbles out of bed and opens the sliding door to the corridor outside, where she finds Jiang Cheng hovering on the threshold of his own doorway with his arms folded over his chest.

"What's wrong?" she yawns, rubbing her eyes. "Is it bad news?"

"Bad news for Mother," Jiang Cheng mutters. "Fuqin just told her about A-Jie's engagement."

Wei Wuxian feels as if someone had thrown cold water over her. In the midst of her private delight that Shijie's betrothal had ended, she had not thought of how Madam Yu would take the news: and now, both she and Jiang Cheng are about to find out.

"Did Jiang-shushu tell Auntie that I..."

Jiang Cheng shakes his head. "No. I don't think it would have made much of a difference, but Father didn't say a word."

They tiptoe across the narrow bridge between the family compound and the audience chamber, hardly daring to breathe; and then, like a firework bursting on a dark, still night, they hear Madam Yu's shrill voice rising over Jiang Fengmian's.

"Who will she marry now?" she shouts. "Ouyang-zongzhu has no children, and all the other men in the Jin clan take after Jin Guangshan. How can I let her go to Lanling without Yuyan's protection?"

"I thought perhaps Lan Xichen might—"

"I knew it. You've had your eye on him since the year Zixuan was born, but that boy will do no good to any woman as a husband!" shrieks Madam Yu. "He has had no one but Nie Mingjue in his eyes since he was a child. What will become of our daughter now, Jiang Fengmian? Zixuan was the only man who might have suited her, the only one—and now, just because he complained about the betrothal, you—"

She takes in a great, heaving breath, and Wei Wuxian hears the thud of her heeled boots striking the floor.

"And now, thanks to you," she chokes, "I will have to watch as Wei Ying marries Lan Wangji—" Wei Wuxian winces, "—and as she becomes mother to the next Lan-zongzhu, whilst my child must settle for the heir to some backwater clan in Changlun, or a commoner—"

Jiang-shushu sighs.

"If I had not broken Yanli's engagement," he says quietly, "then you would have had to watch A-Ying live as she ought to do, in comfort and plenty with a husband who cares for her dearly, while our daughter lived in a gilded prison with a man who has made no secret of the fact that the very mention of her name is a burden to him. You would have watched A-Ying's children growing up without a care in the world, and A-Ying adored by the whole of Gusu Lan as she deserves—and all the while, our daughter, who used to weep whenever she trod on an insect in the path, she—"

He sounds as if he might burst into tears. "Could you bear it, Ziyuan? Can you bear to think of A-Li's children, growing up in Koi Tower, and hearing some relation from the branch clan saying that their father would never have wed their mother if their nainai had not forced him to accept her? Can you bear to think of our granddaughters watching Zixuan treating A-Li unkindly, and entering their own wedded homes with the belief that that same unkindness was due to them?"

Yu Ziyuan falters for a moment. "Yuyan would never let Zixuan treat Yanli that way. I have often thought that she loves A-Li more than she loves him."

"Then you are a fool," Jiang Fengmian says wearily. "Quan Yuyan might be your sworn sister, but she is Jin Zixuan's mother before all else. She knows that A-Li will be filial to her husband, and her in-laws, and she knows no other maiden would make a better mother for her grandchildren. Do you truly think that she would let A-Li go, if the choice was left to her?"

"I—"

"What does it matter if Quan Yuyan can ensure that A-Li is treated well?" Jiang-shushu asks. "Jin Zixuan does not want her, and she knows it. For the love of heaven, the entire Jianghu knows it—so how could you even think of asking to A-Li waste her life with him?"

Madam Yu must have opened her mouth to say something, but Jiang Fengmian cuts her off before she can make a sound.

"It does not matter if A-Li likes him. In fact, that makes matters worse," he says brusquely. "If she marries him, she will not leave him, no matter how unhappy he might make her. And I would rather keep her here unmarried all her life than watch her in pain.

"And then there is Jin Guangshan," Jiang-shushu continues, now sounding faintly ill. "I will not speak of my fears regarding him, but you are a woman, Ziyuan. Ought you not to understand them better than I?"

Madam Yu is silent for a long while.

"If you had such thoughts," she hisses at last, sounding very much like Zidian usually does in the midst of strangling a particularly fierce yaoguai, "then you ought to have spoken sooner, so that we could have found a better match before Yanli came of age."

"I made my thoughts known the year Jin-zongzhu tried to lay his hands on Li Shuai," Jiang Fengmian replies. "You were convinced that I was wrong, because A-Shuai was too young to understand what he might have done to her; but I know what I saw, and you still refused to change your mind."

A moment later, he turns and walks out of the room. Wei Wuxian and Jiang Cheng exchange panicked glances before jumping off the footbridge to keep from being noticed; and after Madam Yu stalks off in the other direction, Wei Wuxian drags herself out of the shallow water under the bridge and makes a beeline for Jiang Yanli's room.

"Wait for me!" Jiang Cheng yelps, before cursing under his breath. "Wei Wuxian, for heaven's sake—"

But she does not slow her pace until she reaches her sister's bedroom and slams the door behind her, startling Jiang Yanli out of what must have been (judging by the look on her face) a very peaceful sleep.

"I'm glad you're not going to marry that stupid peacock," Wei Wuxian blurts out, the instant Jiang Yanli opens her eyes. "You deserve better, Shijie. Your husband ought to be the most honorable man in the world, and I won't stand for less."

Her sister's mouth twitches. "I'm glad you think so," she says mirthfully, reaching out to stroke Wei Wuxian's wet hair. "Who should it be, then?"

Wei Wuxian gulps.

"What about Lan Zhan?" she asks. "You could marry him instead of me, couldn't you?"

Jiang Yanli bursts out laughing.

"A-Xian," she gasps, "when we left Gusu, didn't you say that I ought to have a husband who loved me just as much as Third Shidi loves Li Shuai?"

"Well, yes."

"Then how could you possibly imagine that I might want to marry Lan Wangji?"

"But Lan Zhan is the best junzi in the world, in all ways. I'm certain of it," Wei Wuxian insists, ignoring the sudden ache in her chest. "He loves all things that are good and true, so why wouldn't he love you? I mean, he treats me well, and I make him carry my packages at the market and chase me all over Lufeng to keep dogs away while I'm running errands. I'm sure he'd treat you a hundred times better."

Her sister leans forward and rests her brow against Wei Wuxian's.

"A-Ying?"

"Hm?"

"You're a very silly girl, and I love you very much," she says tenderly. "Now go take a warm bath, or you'll catch cold."

Puzzled, Wei Wuxian drips her way out into the corridor and back into her own bedroom, where she finds a damp Jiang Cheng lying flat on his back on the rug under her window.

"No more peacock," he sighs, propping himself up on his elbows. "You know, I almost feel sorry for him."

"What? Why?"

"Because A-Jie could have made him the happiest man in the world, if he'd only given her a chance."

"I suppose so," Wei Wuxian says reluctantly. "But, Jiang Cheng—who do you suppose Shijie will marry now?"

Jiang Cheng puts his face in his hands.

"Not Lan Wangji, definitely," he mutters. "Did you really ask A-Jie if she wanted to take your place as Madam Lan?"

"Of course I did. Didn't you hear me?"

He looks at her in disbelief. "Really?"

Wei Wuxian nods.

"Lan Wangji has the patience of a bodhisattva," Jiang Cheng groans. "When it's time for your wedding, Wei Wuxian, I am going to laugh. Just wait and see."

So I was reading and this line came up “There’s suspecting your family has never loved you, and there’s knowing it.” And I just thought how before having his Lan family, before finding a home with Wen Remnants, when Wei Wuxian was with the Jiangs and even when he was treated horribly, that was closest to a family he had. Even when Madam Yu used to whip him so much that he had scars, had him kneeling for hours in ancestral halls, even when after bringing him back Jiang Fengmian didn’t even care enough to give him a room/or even give him clothing that actually fit him and put his safety always second to his own children. Wei Wuxian only thought of them positively, and yea sure it must have been one thing to consider they don’t love him as family, but it must have been another when Madam Yu’s last words to him were literally “I hate you, you damn brat.” When the two people (MY and JFM) who were closest to being his legal guardians both told him, “Use your own life and protect our actual children.” And he just bows his head in agreement, it hurts, it hurts so bad. And yet he follows through with it until the end. Wei Wuxian deserved better, he deserved so much better than what life gave him.

Woman of all time. She didn't want her child originally but changed her mind after her diagnosis. She genuinely started caring for her child, but was killed since her redemption would be inconvenient for the two main characters and the story overall.

Feel free to cut this part out but I also feel like having her stay an estranged mother would have arguably been more interesting, but instead it feels as if she's punished for being a "bad mom" in the first place. It feels like there's so much media that says being a bad mother is unforgivable, and this show, though I love it, did the most cliche thing and punished a bad mom. Sigh.

More propaganda for Misaki Unasaka: while she was not the greatest mother (neglecting her child, saying she wishes she never had a daughter) it's explained by her circumstances- it's heavily implied she was r*ped and is currently a struggling singer in an abusive relationship, she did the best she could in her situation. Add to that the situation of single mothers in Japan- abortion is basically impossible and there is no monetary help from the government if you're poor. She deserved better.

Since they seem to be a hot topic, what is your opinion of Lan Xichen, Lan Qiren, and Jiang Yanli?

Like personally they rub me a wrong way to varying degrees. Not because they are bad people but mostly little things. I will admit that I have to reread the book, so fics and meta might be coloring my view. Anyway, what are your thoughts on them?

Hi! Thank you for waiting for me to answer this, since they are often such hot topics I had to wait for a day in which I was prepared for dissent in my notes to answer.

This got quite a bit longer than intended, so cutting for length.

In order of your listing of them:

Lan Xichen:

I think that he is a great character, I quite enjoy his personality type, his virtues and his flaws. He is a man who wants to do well in the world and does his best to treat those he knows with equal respect without being blinded by what others say about them. Unfortunately this creates a double edged sword as he will only accept his own opinion and that of those he trusts implicitly on matters, and he is not the best judge of character in the world, thus leaving him open to manipulation in a way that can cause a lot of harm given his position.

I do think he's a much better person than many of his generation and almost everyone of the previous generation. He has his flaws and blindspots, but he does not resist changing in the same way they do. Of every clan leader we see in the narrative, he is the only one who makes the effort to choose differently in the present over the past. His flaws do not doom him to death in the same way that it does so many others and in the end, Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji do not give up on him, both of them considering him and worrying about him in their own way.

Lan Xichen makes a point of calling Wei Wuxian Wei-gongzi at all times, even when others around them refer to him with much worse and rude terms. He treats Jin Guangyao with genuine respect and tries to use his own attitude and treatment of Jin Guangyao to shame others into treating him better when they do shun him simply for being of lower rank and who his mother is, and he maintains this even when they aren't around. Considering the amount of people who cannot do this to their faces, that says something about how he wants to treat people in general. It is simply that his blind spot of wanting to trust those he knows to be good as well causes a lot of incidental harm, which he knows and will have to live with. I think he's an excellent character and does not deserve the treatment he sometimes gets from fandom. I can understand more passive trusting characters who want to care for those around them not always vibing well with someone, but it really irks me to see such traits praised in one character and bashed in another, such as those who bash Jiang Yanli for them while praising Lan Xichen and vice versa.

Lan Qiren

In all honestly, Lan Qiren is a character who how sympathetic I am to him really depends on the work and the timeline. In MDZS proper, he's kind of a toad, he very much is the negative side of conservatism, who holds grudges against the children of people that he disliked when he met them and allows his rigidity and stubbornness to color every interaction he has. He very much does cause unnecessary problems and he deserves whatever Wei Wuxian wants to throw his way in the end for refusing to let go of old bitterness and move forward.

However, there are a few areas in which even in MDZS proper I can feel sympathetic to him. His older brother was the pride and joy of the Lan Clan, their heir who would be the next leader after their father stepped down/passed away depending on which came first, but due to the snarled mess with Madam Lan and the decisions that they kept secret to just the two of them to the end of their days, he is pushed into a position that simultaneously never should have been his and is not truly his to have. He is saddled with the responsibility of leading and running their clan while his brother is in seclusion, yet he is only acting clan leader, lacking the true power of the title and ability to act as he needs while his brother remains in seclusion and as clan leader at the same time. That couldn't have been an easy bridge to walk and I do sympathize with him for that. He probably would have been a happier man in a world where he could have gone and lived the life he enjoyed without having to step up where others faltered for decades.

However, that is not an excuse to take it out on children, and my sympathies end there.

Jiang Yanli:

Jiang Yanli is a sweetie who has done the best she can in a world that leaves her little room to impact anything. She's a gentle soul, someone who prefers to lead a quiet life with the people she cares about, raised in an abusive household that she was born into. Such a thing always marks people's souls when they have to survive from the first things they can remember. She is in an engagement where her betrothed treats her terribly, where her mother transparently does not care about her outside of using her to hurt the people she loves and there is not much she can do about it beyond what she does, shielding Wei Wuxian, caring for Wei Wuxian and Jiang Cheng and speaking up in their defense to outsiders who would hurt them.

She isn't perfect, no one in this novel is, but she really does want to do well by the people she cares about and she goes so far to try and help Wei Wuxian when Jiang Cheng won't, even facing down Jin Zixun and everyone around him to demand apologies and respect when they insist on demeaning him, up to the point where she chooses to save Wei Wuxian's life even after he killed Jin Zixuan and she doesn't know why. She doesn't have to know why to know that she still wants him to live. There is a reason why her positive influence is so important and it's that which leads Wei Wuxian to start helping and caring for her son who has been raised so poorly, knowing that she would want better for Jin Ling and resolving to step up for him in her absence.

In a world which frequently demeans kindness, she chooses it over violence and hatred as her mother and brother would not. She deserves better than what she got, and in a good world, Wei Wuxian would get to keep the girl who chose him as her brother even when the rest of the world refused to respect that. I really like her.

In short, I guess I like all of them for being the characters they are and can see them as well rounded characters with their own weaknesses and flaws. Lan Qiren I care about far less than the other two, but I actually really like Jiang Yanli and Lan Xichen and would rate them up quite highly together (and ship them for a much happier pairing for Jiang Yanli). Jiang Yanli and Lan Xichen are very similar in character in many ways, and I think to demean one for traits the other has is to not respect either of them.

But that's just me, of course. I know that I can write as many words as I want and still people will disagree with me. As long as they give me the right to keep my opinions as well instead of trying to convince me out of them, we can still get along just fine.

Summary: Wei Wuxian reincarnates 13 years after his death in the body of Mo Xuanyu, the second young master of the Mo family. His lust for life is quickly extinguished after that.

The world has never made much sense for Wei Wuxian - not ever since he let go of his golden core and had to face the horrors of the Burial Mounds alone, not ever since the Wen remnants turned to him for safety and the rest of the world condemned them all for the sin of existence, not ever since he died, his very being painfully fragmented into pieces of bloody and bruised nothingness.

And yet… Wei Wuxian has never felt as lost as he does now, the world entirely empty and senseless before his eyes, a shapeless mass of objects and concepts he can no longer comprehend.

There is nothing left.

Wei Wuxian has been staring aimlessly into space for hours, unable to focus on anything, as though his body and soul have divorced from one another, only still held together by a precarious agreement.

Rain pitter-patters slowly outside, and it's only the repetitive, familiar sound of it against the windowsill that still keeps Wei Wuxiantethered to the world. He doesn't remember much from the time he was dead - but he figures it must have felt a lot like right now, an emptiness underneath which ache and disillusionment threaten to burst.

Lan Sizhui (that’s his name, right? That’s what Zewu-Jun called him… why does Wei Wuxian feel like that’s not a name that was randomly given?) has brought in tea at some point, and politely left after. It must have been obvious Wei Wuxian wasn't in a chatty mood, so he left the tray behind and made himself scarce.

He doesn't know - doesn’t know anything about what happened, about who he is, about who found him and who saved him - it's Wei Wuxian's call whether to tell him or not. But for the moment, all of this is hard even for Wei Wuxian himself to grapple with, and he can't imagine having to share it with anyone else, let alone with... a kid. His kid. Is it even fair to call him that?

He wishes there was alcohol around. It wouldn't help, it never really does - but it would soothe, even if only for a moment. And he needs that, the warmth and the illusion of comfort. After all, he's never really known comfort, not for anything more than a fleeting sensation.

Zewu-Jun is angry. Bitter. Resentful even. Rightfully so - Wei Wuxian knows he deserves no kindness from the man and has already received a lot more than he should ever have.

After all, this all has been his fault.

Everything is.

Madam Yu’s been right, back then - all he ever brings is peril. Maybe he should have listened to her, maybe he should have… back then, when he was twelve years old and he pulled a prank he shouldn’t have, maybe he should have listened to her when she told him to just go ahead and… and… join his parents.

If he’d done that, none of the tragedies after would have happened. Or if they had, at least he wouldn’t have been the cause.

If he had, he would have never met Lan Zhan (and though the thought brings a fresh wave of tears in his eyes and a throbbing ache in his chest, wouldn’t it have been better this way?) and he would have never invoked anybody’s wrath, Lotus Pier wouldn’t have been destroyed, he wouldn’t have had to live the rest of his life coreless in a mass grave and he wouldn’t have died the way he did, torn into by ghosts and corpses…. and Lan Zhan wouldn’t have come to find him, he wouldn’t have become overwhelmed with the resentment of the Burial Mounds and he wouldn’t have… he would have never…

It should have been Wei Wuxian to take his life, back when he was twelve.

Or fifteen.

Or nineteen.

Or twenty-three.

It should have been him the one to lay dead on the cursed earth of the Burial Mounds, insects crawling into the crevice his sword left in his throat, resentful energy tearing chunks of flesh off his bones, undead fingers clawing at the crusted blood on his face and the mess of sullied clothes hiding the rot beneath.

It should have been him they found with dull, lifeless eyes - or, whatever was left of them, the globes sunk in, fallen victim to the hunger of the few living creatures of the Burial Mounds.

(Oh, how Wei Wuxian wishes he could still meet those beautiful, honeyed eyes again, so warm with emotion, so easy to get lost into, so haunting in his loneliest nights… Those golden eyes, so bright they’d put the most precious jewels to shame… those eyes, devoured by worms, by insects, by the lowliest, most cursed creatures in the world…)

It should have been him.

There was nothing left of Wangji when I found him. I don’t know if I should even call whatever I found of him ‘remains’… tatters of robes, bandages, empty vials of medicine, bits of skin and bone that I hoped were his own.

Can you imagine, Wei-gongzi, what it could possibly feel like to struggle to find pieces of your little brother to lay in a grave? The little brother you held as a baby, the little brother you shared your happiness and your sorrow with? The one person you’ve always felt closest in the world to?

Wei-gongzi, my brother was there for a reason, and that reason killed him. The reason was you. It always has been. And he went to find pieces of you just like I found pieces of him.

But no matter how much time passes, how much healing I try to do, there is an image I can’t get out of my head. There were - he died next to whatever remained of you. There was a hand covered in your robes, and over that hand, Wangji laid his forehead ribbon before he died.

Do you know what that means, Wei-gongzi? My brother died loving you. I lost him because he loved you.

And though it may not be fair of me to say this to you, as far as I am concerned…

Wangji died because of you.

Wei Wuxian agrees. Lan Zhan died because of him. But… why did Wei Wuxian not realize Lan Zhan loved him? How had he not seen it? Why did it have to take Lan Zhan dying for Wei Wuxian to find out the depth and breadth of his - Lan Zhan's and his own - feelings?

There was a little boy laying beside Wangji. He was not dead, but his body had been possessed by something much more powerful than he could take. There were wounds all over his body, blood stains all over his robes. When I picked him up, a pair of inhuman eyes opened, staring at me hatefully.

And in a thousand voices, the Burial Mounds asked me "What is it like, to lose someone you love? Do you see what you've done to us?!"

I could not answer. All I could do was cry. I've been crying ever since, Wei-gongzi, but no matter how many tears I shed, my brother will never return.

Yet, you have. You are here, and he is not. Tell me, how should I feel about this? About you? Would I not be justified in drawing my sword and taking your life right now, in revenge for my brother's death?

Would you not want yourself dead if you were me?

Wei Wuxian hates being alive, more than he ever did before. He hates that Mo Xuanyu forced his soul into this body and brought him into this wretched, empty world - he would have been better off dead, unaware. He would have never known about any of this, he would have kept on existing between realms, tormented and tortured, but wholly convinced the whole world hated him and celebrated he was gone.

Now he has to live knowing that Lan Zhan loved him to the point of self injury, to the point of betraying his sect, to the point of substance abuse and suicide.

He has to live knowing he cannot be loved in any way other than destructive.

I've brought the boy into the Cloud Recesses to be cared for and I… I adopted him as my own. Wangji talked to me about him after he came to visit you… he told me he felt drawn to him. I did too. Or perhaps I convinced myself I was.

Either way, I've raised him the way I know Wangji would have wanted. I am not him, I could never be, but I know him.

The boy's courtesy name is Sizhui. I am not the one that came up with it, my brother did.

I think Wangji knew he would not be returning from the Burial Mounds… perhaps, though I don't want to believe it, he went there specifically so he could die.

Either way, he left a letter for me to find, somewhere only I would know to look.

He was asking me to forgive him, as if I would have ever not. He was asking me that, should he be successful in finding anybody alive in the Burial Mounds, to take them in and protect them if he became unable. And if that person ended up being a child, to give them the courtesy name "Sizhui", in your memory.

I have done all of those things. But there is one more thing he asked me to do that I cannot.

He asked me not to hate you.

Wei Wuxian can’t imagine somebody not hating him. He even hates himself, how could the rest of the world be expected to do otherwise?

What is there not to be hated about him?

There are no guest quarters available in the Cloud Recesses at the moment. I will not - cannot host you in the hanshi, and I cannot allow you to share with anybody else for fear of them finding out who you really are. Though my disdain of you is clear, I am not an unkind host, I cannot allow you to sleep outside.

So, your stay in the Cloud Recess will be in my brother’s old quarters, the jingshi.

Wei Wuxian looks around, at the modestly furnished room, and tries to imagine Lan Zhan there, reading his asinine books by the window, writing perfectly structured night hunt reports at the mahogany table, tucking himself into bed at 9 pm sharp.

Dying.

He doesn’t want to imagine Lan Zhan dying - but he knows… he knows how it happened, has experienced it himself… in a way, at least. He’d given up, and he’d allowed himself to be killed. Is it still suicide

He could have stopped the corpses at any time, but what would have been the point? What would have Wei Wuxian had to live for?

Oh, if only he had known… if only he had realized… if he had known Lan Zhan was injured, punished because of him, Wei Wuxian would have stormed the Cloud Recesses, turned them to ashes again, just to see him and hold him and thank him, take him away and run away somewhere, anywhere, just them and A-Yuan and Wen Ning and…

Wei Wuxian finds himself crying as he laughs at the notion. The world would have not allowed him - them - to live, no matter where he ran off or with whom. Destroy the Cloud Recesses? Save Lan Zhan? Who does he thinks he is?

Didn’t Lan Zhan die because of him?

How could Wei Wuxian save him?

Who has he ever saved? Who has ever survived his good intentions?

All he would have done would have been to doom Lan Zhan to death. Just like he did shijie and Jin Zixuan, the Wens and - like Madam Yu always said - even his parents. They probably died because of him too, just like everyone else.

Everyone that he’s ever cared about, everyone he’s ever loved, is gone.

And he has no right to be sorrowful, to regret, to hurt.

He needs to take accountability, to accept his fault, to pay for his sins.

Perhaps dying once has not amounted to much - to anything. He should die a thousand, a million deaths, each worse than the last - and only then, perhaps, to hope for atonement.

But though there is no way he knows to do that, he does know how to die a second time.

He looks around the jingshi, but this time it’s not for Lan Zhan’s image. It’s for something sharp, or strong enough ceiling beams, for knives, for talisman paper.

His eyes fall on a guqin instead.

Wei Wuxian blinks at it, as if he’s seeing it for the first time. Why is it here? Why hasn’t Lan Xichen or Lan Qiren or anyone else locked such a precious item away?

He walks up to it, as if entranced.

As if he’s found Lan Zhan’s ghost.

His fingers trail over the fine wood, plucking the strings in a senseless tune.

Lan Zhan would hate the sound, disharmonious, meaningless.

Wei Wuxian’s eyes fill with tears again, though he feels a painful warmth in his chest as he closes his eyes and remembers Lan Zhan playing the instrument, mimicking his gestures from memory.

He sees Lan Zhan in his mind’s eye, sat perfectly poised as he places his fingers over the guqin with practices ease, firmly concentrated on the task. He sees two strands of hair framing his face as his head leans down over the instrument, eyes half opened, lost in the melody.

"Wei Ying."

I wish you’d call for me again… I wish I could hear you again, even if just for a moment, even if just for long enough to tell you that I…

Wei Wuxian lifts his fingers off the guqin and decides to return to his plan of taking his life.

Wei Ying!

His head snaps in the direction where the sound came from, but his eyes only meet an empty wall, his shadow dancing on it with every flicker of the candle's flame.

Of course, what was he expecting? There's nobody there to call for him, nobody to call his name like it's soft, beautiful, beloved.

There is nobody alive who would ever call his name with anything but disdain.

And there really is nobody left to mourn him this time. He's made sure of it, hasn't he?

The empty jingshi is proof enough of that.

Wei Wuxian sighs, realization befalling him slowly, like a veil placed daintily over the face of a dead maiden's corpse. He did fulfill Mo Xuanyu's wish (one less person to disappoint) so there is nothing keeping him tethered to this world either.

He walks leisurely around the place, as if to carve it in his memory. Would Lan Zhan hate it if he killed himself in his home?

Ridiculous. Lan Zhan is dead. He doesn't care about anything anymore.

He cared too much, and now he's dead. He shouldn't have cared about Wei Wuxian, shouldn't have ever loved him.

He would still be alive now if he didn't…

If he didn't love Wei Wuxian, if nobody ever loved Wei Wuxian… the world would have been a much better place, and a lot more people would still be in it.

People who shouldn't have loved Wei Wuxian but did.

People Wei Wuxian would always love regardless.

The floorboards near Lan Zhan's bed creak in a way that's different from the rest, and the sound pulls Wei Wuxian out of his thoughts.

He's curious more than he is suicidal - so he leans down to inspect the noisy floorboards, and easily discovers they can be removed, likely hiding something underneath.

Did someone hide something in Lan Zhan's home?

Zewu-Jun did say this place isn't used anymore, it would be the perfect cover for something scandalous… for a secret.

There is nothing scandalous there.

Just two jars of wine, a flute and a neatly folded letter.

Wei Wuxian cries as he picks up the alcohol and downs it much too quickly, trembling fingers careful around the delicate paper of the letter.

Wei Ying. I know you may never find this letter, or these gifts I have bought for you, because I know that you are no longer among the living.

But I must write to you regardless, in hopes that, perhaps, my intention, my feelings, may reach you, no matter whichever realm you may reside in now. I must write to you because this is the only one I can pretend that you are not completely gone from this world, but rather have gone far away from me and this is the only way I can still talk to you.

I have tried talking out loud, but there is never an answer, and it is easier for me to pretend it is the distance that keeps my inquiries without answer, rather than your absence… your death.

Wei Ying, I love you. I have loved you even before I knew that I did, my soul yearned for yours although I've been unable to understand it until it was too late. I do not know if anything would have been different, I do not know if I could have saved you, I do not even know if you would have loved me back.

But I do regret never having told you. I do regret having been weak in my conviction in you, in myself, in the love I now carry for you but have nobody to give to anymore.

I have been a coward, back then, not admitting to my sin, giving in to my impulses despite not having had the courage to tell you how I feel beforehand.

I do regret not having told you - not having told you when you could still understand me, when you could still respond to me with anything other than 'Get lost' and pushing me away. Perhaps you would have done that back then, as well, if you knew it was me that kissed you - but I was scared, too scared of rejection, of heartbreak, to admit it.

So I didn't tell you. I kept my secret, dirty and shameful, and I will keep it forever, because it is the only form of intimacy I have ever, and will ever, allow myself to feel. There will never be anybody else, Wei Ying. I have been foolish not to realize this when you were still alive, but I am realizing it now.

However, I am not choosing to be alone as punishment. No, this is my way of honoring you, of loving you in spite of fate, in spite of my life and your death.

I wish I could have done more for you. I wish I could have understood why you changed, I wish I could have helped you, and the Wen remnants, A-Yuan… All that is left of me are wishes.

I have wished for much in this life - but none of that has ever been granted. I wished for my mother to be freed, but she never was - not until she was dead, at least. I wished for my father to leave his seclusion, but he never did. I wished to find my place in the world, my purpose, but I stay feeling lost still.

And ultimately, I wished for you to find happiness. But you never did.

Even if your happiness may not have been with me, I so wished you would find it - find it within yourself to smile the way you used to when we were young, when none of the war and the aftermath happened.

My wishes have never been granted, but I wish still.

I wish to meet you again someday. In a different life, in a different world… I wish we could find each other again and… be.

It is so overlooked, to be. So simple.

I am - but you are not.

I am here, and I wish I still had you to be here for.

But I do not, and I have nobody to be here for anymore.

When I was told what my punishment for protecting you would be, I had hoped it would kill me. I knew, somehow, somewhere deep inside my heart, that you would be gone soon, and I did not want to live in a world without you.

And yet, I do.

I wish, when I can move a little better, when I can take enough medicine so it doesn't hurt anymore, to come find you.

In which Nie Mingjue discovers that Wen Ruohan isn't bad, he's just been living on a different planet

Wen Chao was the one who told Wen Ruohan it was 100 coins in the first place so he could spend the change on his girlfriend

Wen Xu thinks Wen Ruohan is wrong about a 100-coins banana, but he never looks at prices when shopping and always tells the seller to keep the receipt, so he doesn't know enough about market prices to dispute it

Meng Yao is like, "...Yes, it's 100 coins," and then adds the excess amount into his 5 Year Plan™ piggy bank

Jin Guangshan is also like, "...Yes, it's 100 coins," and outwardly pretends like he doesn't know any better when he really, really does and has to discreetly drink the vinegar

Summary: When the former Madam Lan hears that the new Sect Leader Lan married a criminal who is kept in the same house where she once lived, she has only one choice. She has to return to Cloud Recesses to rescue Wei Wuxian! Kay's comments: Ah, I love a good Madam Lan lives AU! And this once is absolutely beautiful. In this one, she faked her death and fled to ancient Japan, where she helped other women in unhappy marriages. Hearing of Wei Wuxian living in her former prison, she draws the wrong conclusions and returns to rescue him, which ends with her finally meeting her sons again and there's some complicated feelings, especially on Lan Xichen's side and I really loved that. The backstory was also really cool and Madam Lan interacting with Wei Wuxian was perfectly written as well. Excerpt: “I know you are a criminal called the Yiling Laozu and that Lan Zhan married you. I do not know what you like to be called.” “Lan Zhan,” echoed the young man. He probably wasn’t used to hearing his husband called by that name. Little A-Zhan was a person who belonged to the distant past—a gentle, loving boy who liked rabbits and sweets—now only Sect Leader Lan remained. Hu Mingyan needed to remember that, if they were caught. “My name is Wei Ying, courtesy name Wei Wuxian. Beautiful mystery women may call me what they like!” “Well then, Wei Wuxian, I’m sure you have a number of questions for me. I will do my best to answer, but first we have to find a corpse.” “Sure, sure,” he said peaceably. “You’d be surprised how many conversations I have that go in this direction. Usually I’m the one saying it, in fact! Was there a particular flavor of corpse you had in mind? Different sorts are useful for different things.” “Ideally, a young man of your approximate height and build. I know a few tricks to make a dead body look like a different person. If we disguise a corpse and sneak it back into the Gentian House, the Lan won’t search for you once you’re gone.” “Yeah,” Wei Wuxian said slowly, “I’m not going along with any plan that makes Lan Zhan think I’m dead, even for a minute. Sorry. This has been really fun, though!” Hu Mingyan blinked at him. “Fun! He will hunt you down if he thinks you’re alive. The Lan don’t let things go. They don’t let people go. Not ever.”

¿What if Yu Ziyuan survives after the fall of Lotus Pier and her terrible actions (abuse of Wei Wuxian, willingness to let her allies die, being primarily responsible for the Lotus Pier massacre) come to light? Let's not forget that some people (Jin Guangshan) would try to use the situation to their advantage to gain power through slander and manipulation.

Oooo, I love this ask!

I believe that if Madam Yu lives, nothing would really change for her other than that she would probably treat Wei Wuxian worse. With Jiang Cheng being sect leader, I highly doubt that her actions when the Wens came to invade would get out, and if they did she could easily just play it off as mindless gossip or Wen remnant lies.

Her abuse of Wei Wuxian would both be encouraged and only pretended to be looked down upon. Everyone was jealous of the Jiang Sect for having Wei Wuxian as a part of their ranks, the story even goes on to say that Jin Guangshan tried to lure him with treasures and women, so I can imagine that people would try and schmooze Wei Wuxian by talking about Madam Yu's treatment of him, but only in the scenario that they can get him in private- can't get caught talking down about the mother of a great sect leader to the son of a servant. There would also be people who would say that Wei Wuxian deserves to be treated that way because of his cultivation and because he is a servant's child. Madam Yu could probably even bring up how- she believes- Wei Wuxian owes the Jiang a debt, so she can treat him any way she desires until he pays it off- which, also, in her head, he never will as she believes he owes them his life. The only person who would be against it would be Lan Wangji, but it isn't as if he has any power to go up against Madam Yu; the only thing he could most likely do would be to ask Wei WUxian to come back to Gusu with him, and we know how that is going to end.

There is a possibility that Madam Yu would try and have Jiang Cheng expel Wei Wuxian from the sect before he runs into Wen Qing and saves the remnants from the camps because she sees him as a threat to the sect's reputation/Jiang Cheng. It's really hard to determine this because Madam Yu does not like giving up power, and Wei Wuxian is a powerhouse, but she also hates that Wei Wuxian is better than her son in everything. So her decision in this would be affected by outside factors/the other sects.

I also believe, however, that Jin Guangshan is smart enough to get Madam Yu to do the above and make Wei Wuxian vulnerable early on. He also has the added help of his wife and her unending quest to marry their son and Jiang Yanli. I can imagine Madam Jin painting Wei Wuxian as a danger to Yanli to her best friend, adding fuel to the fire.

I believe that the rest of the story would go as normal, except that Jiang Cheng doesn't get to have Zidian, and I can see Madam Yu trying to get people to siege the Burial Mounds earlier than they did in the canon timeline. She would probably be lobbying for a siege the week after Jiang Cheng's and Wei Wuxian's fight just because her darling heir got his non-dominant arm broken.

When Wei Wuxian resurrects, if Jin Guangyao hasn't had her killed, I can see Madam Yu being an extra obstacle in Wei Wuxian's and Lan Wangji's quest. I can see her whipping Wei Wuxian in Qinghe after Wei Wuxian saves Jin Ling from the man-eating castle, and I can see her kicking up a fuss in Lotus Pier after the second siege of the Burial Mounds.

Madam Lan’s adult life must have been beyond terrible. Trapped in the same house kept from her boys.

At the time she probably thought house arrest would be better that dying.

After though she must have considered trying to escape, but I doubt she’d want to leave without her boys.

There’s no way she could have escaped with them or if she did it wouldn’t be long before the Lan’s or their allies caught her up.

Madam Lan deserved better, at least Lan Zhan learned that much and did for Wei Ying what no one did for her.

What made me ship it: Well it's very simple really. You tell me two women are very close friends and sworn sisters and whatever and I know exactly what that means

Favorite things: Even though both can be very beastly they're obviously care deeply about their children and each other. Madam Jin deserves better than her horrible husband. Madam Yu deserves to get a break from her shitty home life and her own bad brain. They are established already as caring deeply for each other and are both elegant and hot women which means they can have elegant HOT LOVIN'... Basically I just love that they can give each other what they need and still stay completely in line with canon

Unpopular opinion: I don't know if there are any... Women hot. I don't hate yzy as much as the rest of the fandom does so probably whatever bad faith opinion People have of her I disagree with lol

The beans

Do I ship it: Yeah!

What made me ship it: Honestly, it was breaking down the dynamics between the juniors for little ficlets I think! They both have mature, kindhearted and romantic personalities and I think they'd go very well together as a result!

Fav things: The aforementioned similar personalities... They'd be such a sweet sight together, and I like to think of the more serious and studious Sizhui getting flustered by Zizhen hitting him out of nowhere with poetry and flowers... Leaping in front of Sizhui who is more than capable of defending himself LOL

Unpopular opinion: I wish they were more popular than zhuiling lol hell I wish LINGYI were more popular than zhuiling. I love lingyi it's my top one

Favourite character: it’s Noey, really. He’s a tiny gangster with a marshmallow heart! He thinks he lives in the 70s (?) and listen to music when he’s sad! He makes little lists of what to do to woo his tutor! He’s annoying yet adorable! He’s the oldest son but the baby brother vibes are impeccable.

Funniest character: it’s Thi, my pathetic little man.

Best-looking character: ok so hm, if I really had to pick I'd say Waewdao (lady in Noey's gang) and also think that Thiw is actually pretty charming.

3 favourite ships: > Noey/Thi, I was a little lukewarm at first (for many reasons but that’s a big age gap where they are in life), but they end up so sweet and the maturity level works > Waewdao/Rayrai. We only got the tiniest crumb but how could I resist a cute girl on a motorbike getting a nerd girlfriend with an attitude?? > Noey/Thiw. They’ve been best friend forever! They cry when they fight, then they cry again when they finally reconcile! They made a gang together and they are ride or die for each other, and while I adore them as best friends, I also think it would be cute.

Least favourite character: Thi’s parents, they can gtfo with their stupid elitism and picking on a 17 years old. Like, I can grasp that you’re not super into your ~22 yo son going out with a high schooler, that’s fair, but people, take it with your son first maybe, then don’t be snobbish assholes about it.

Least favourite ship: Noey/Pam, of course. Also Noey/salt, like please child step away from the shaker, we beg you.

Reason why I watch it: it’s fun and sweet, a little over the top but it’s mostly adorable, and I love a show that sticks to its aesthetic. Plus, of course, it’s SO visually pleasing, and I also like the music.

Why I started watching it: I saw gifs of Thi with wet eyes and Noey grabbing his chin, so paired with Noey’s incredible fashion sense, I had to check.

The Untamed

this one was SO hard dlsmjqkf (ಡ‸ಡ)

Favourite character: After careful consideration, and ignoring my tendency to want to pick the least known characters I love the most just so they can shine a little… It’s Jiang Cheng. It’s the miserable tempest of a man, the Most Little Brother With a Temper, the purple whip with a soft heart, I just. I really love him. Very VERY closely followed by Song Lan, my other tragic favorite, my best man who deserved so much better.

Funniest character: The Junior Quartet is a strong favorite of course (Jingyi and Zizhen especially) BUT I think I will go with Sect Master Yao, he's just such a joke.

Best-looking character: once again, how to chose in a sea of gorgeous people in even more gorgeous robes?! (did I spend 30 min just looking at different pics of the cast? … obviously). Okay, OKAY let’s try to be reasonable! I’d say… Song Lan, Jiang Cheng, Nie Mingjue (that one took my surprise ok), Jiang Yanli, Madame Yu. Can’t do less than a top 5 ;_;

3 favourite ships: Not in order but I guess those are the one I come back to most often so > Song Lan/Xiao Xingchen. They wanted to build a sect together okay?? They wanted to save the world together! Xiao Xingchen broke his vows and offered his eyes for Song Lan, and Song Lan will roam the earth until Xiao Xingchen’s soul is whole again! They are so tragic, and they love each other and man. They own my whole heart. > Every variation of 3zuns. Happy AU, tragic canon versions, two by two or the three of them together. There is so much love and hurt and betrayal in there it’s absolutely fascinating and I could spend hours just like. Thinking about them. > Mianmian/Qin Su. Look, do they interact even for a second on screen? No. Do I think that they would have crossed path bc both are both in the Jin sect and Mianmian could have been Qin Su’s knight in shinning armor when shit goes down? Yyyyeaaaahhhh. This one is tiny but I cherish it a lot.

Least favourite character: unsurprisingly, I have nothing but contempt for Jin Guangshan. Jin Zixun is also quite the little shit.

Least favourite ship: Hu, I’m… not so sure? I am not fond of Xue Yang with any of the Yi City players, mostly (not in a reciprocated, healthy way at least). I think in “canon” there are none I really dislike.

Reason why I watch it: I like the story, and most of all I ended up very attached to all the characters. I find it beautiful to watch, it emotionally works on me super well, and here too I just love the music.

Why I started watching it: I got taken in by the beautiful robes and long hair, as well as the promise of Wangxian. I am, when it comes down to it, an easily swayed watcher lol
