someone in the replies of the last post brought up dogsred, a hockey manga where a figure skater becomes a hockey player so that could be zoro lol

i mentioned it there but he becomes a meme bc he was messing around during practice and managed to score with three hockey sticks, one of which was in his mouth! three stick style 😎

like u mentioned, ace is roger's son but it's not common knowledge bc he wanted to make it on his own name instead of under his dad's, who has like, gretzky-level hockey fame. also holds some resentment bc the peak of roger's career was when ace needed him at home.

also like u mentioned, garp totally doesnt believe professional sports is a reliable career in the long run, and despises that most of his grandkids are pro hockey players, and his son went into speed skating and eventually became the olympic coach for the country's olympic speed skaters (incl sabo). koala is also one and her and sabo are on the mix-gendered relay skate.

by the time luffy gets promoted to captain, he's somehow amassed the weirdest team of pirates players ever seen, where many of the regulars just. don't have backgrounds in hockey? where did he find them? how did he convince the league to take them? who knows.

cross guild productions is the brain child of crocodile, who lent buggy a bunch of money to start his company and decided to do this when buggy couldnt pay up when he chased him diwn years later. croc also coaches mihawk, so he decides to strong-arm mihawk into doing guest performances, since he's such a big figure skating name, having the most olympic golds ever win by a single figure skater. mihawk doesnt want to do it until he hears the storyline for the performance, sees his costume sketches, and holds the prop sword. he's just a huge goth dork underneath it all.

after mihawk's grand internationally-aired romantic gesture succeeds and he gets shanks back, shanks manages to convince the cross guild that he's still a good enough skater to do an easy ice show, as long as he doesnt fall on his bad arm like a dumbass. he never does tricks, but people love the character they write for him, as he's so charismatic. he plays mihawk's rival in that season's little show, and gets his own prop sword. every single performance sells out bc mishanks is till a hot topic among ice skating and hockey fans.

sanji comes from a very strict, very decorous mma family, and he never fit in bc he likes cooking and skating. he ran away from home and found a fister parent in zeff, and worked at the baratie growing up, where zeff put him in hockey bc his kid likes skating but he also needs friends his age. despite never wanting to be like his birth family, ironically sanji's one of the best fighters on the pirates.

usopp is a forward and their best shot, and generally always makes it into the net from wherever he's shooting. despite this, he finds being a forward absolutely terrifying and is refularly intimidated by the big guys they face that have no problem getting in his face and starting fights.

there are 11 fraternities in my uni and sometimes i happen to be in campus when the recruitments are being announced and it's honestly such a cool, if not a little startling, event. i transferred from a college so it was so shocking to see these because i genuinely thought these were only an american (US) thing

sooo imagining this to be simon's uni life is making me giggle because on one hand i think simon's the type to wanna avoid all that unnecessary events, but then i also imagine him joining exactly because of said events- it opens up lots of opportunities and helps him build intimate connections!! also, i just wanna imagine him having fun :((

i think he joined a fraternity too!! i went ballistic and searched up fraternities and cadet lifestyles, and they act like any other universities too so yea i do think he joined a chapter prior to joining the military!!

i do see him joining it for the same benefits such as scholarship and varied opportunities. but also it's noted that fraternities geared for the military also get service projects which help expand their experiences.

there's also a non-collegiate fraternity for the military!! maybe he'd have been part of that :0

i dunno if there would be repercussions of having been a member of a chapter later on as he gets into spec-ops. otherwise, he probably faked his death so that there won't be any loose connections to trace to him

I will not talk about the funny gamer men on here but uh catboy fic (ie My Teammate Turned into a Cat?!) started as "what if Draisaitl turned into a cat sometimes" and has quickly turned into "hey what would the PR and hockey ops response be to a player literally turning into a cat" and also "hey what's the horror of people changing in ways that are unknowable to you" so it's going well! The horrors of bureaucracy, mostly.

Nonetheless here's a TikTok/IG Reel I thought one of the content producers would make as a sick joke a few weeks into the curse manifesting:

The players are walking back to the locker room, still in gear, presumably after a practice. A text caption reading, “If you could be any animal, what animal would you be?” is displayed on the screen as the video rapidly cuts to the players responding, either off the ice or in the locker room.

McLeod grins, looks at the person holding up the phone camera.

“Uh, definitely a dog.”

Nugent-Hopkins looks mildly taken aback but is smiling.

“I’m not sure, actually. Maybe a wolf?”

Someone calls out something unintelligible from off camera. The camera spins and zooms in to catch Hyman laughing.

“I’m not a horse, you —”

Hyman looks thoughtful and affable, as if giving the question serious thought.

“I think I’d be a dog. A Golden Retriever, maybe? They’re pretty smart and loyal.”

Kulak looks mildly amused.

“Some type of dog.”

Holloway laughs loudly.

“I think being a dog would be great.”

Desharnais shrugs, before turning to someone off camera.

“A bear? A bear’s cool, right?”

The response is muffled, but Desharnais laughs anyway and faces the camera again.

“Stu says moose. I’ll go with that.”

Skinner smiles politely at the camera.

“I think I’d like to be a cat. They seem pretty smart and quick.”

McDavid lets out a little media chuckle and runs a hand through his hair.

“Uh… I don’t know. Probably a dog. … What breed? I’m not sure. Maybe I’d just look like Lenny, or something.”

Draisaitl stares at the camera, stone-faced. After a couple of seconds he grits out —

“A cat. I guess.”

Bouch/Clouder Academia AU is basically omg they were roommates doing graduate degrees. It's part of a much broader alternate universe where basically any NHL player that is funny to me is now an academic. I have read so many papers on topics that are not relevant to my own field of study.

Bouch is studying sports medicine as an MSc. He's looking at resiliency and recovery in professional sports and aims to be a physiotherapist after he graduates. He was set to go pro but had a spree of injuries and rough accidents on the ice before and during his stint in the OHL and his drafting prospects plummeted.

Clouder's a PoliSci/Media Studies MA studying how nationalistic narratives are built through sports coverage. He's the only one of three sons that is not playing pro hockey and he has no problems because of it at all :) He's still figuring out what he wants to do with his life.

The fic is mostly following them in their first year at their local university and how they navigate each other and the hockey-related problems they're both dealing with. It went shippy/slowburn "mostly" by accident, but whatever. They'll figure it out eventually. Here's a random snippet:

The holidays seem to have started a pattern. Not enough to be a constant, but enough to know it’s always there, a safety net in the back of his mind. Some days, Ryan will hang up from a family call the day after an impressive game from Michael and there’s a case study that needs to be proofread, immediately; some days, Evan’s gritting his teeth going down the stairwell and it’s easy to duck under his arm, take some pressure off his knee. A scar for a story, one regret for another.

Back and forth, like a passing drill.

It’s not weird, or gay, or whatever bullshit Jungian term Stu is now using for their friendship just because he got caught asking D.R. about painkiller interactions once. It’s open — there’s a comfort there, a familiarity that settles somewhere near Ryan’s sternum and makes it easier to breathe. That’s normal, probably, for a friendship. Quiet reciprocity, which might be the crux of the problem, a fear that he can’t properly describe.

He appreciates those moments where Evan feels comfortable enough to share, to trust in him. Some are easier, a memory of unlucky circumstance with a speedy return. Others — the larger ones, usually, or complications that took him off the ice for months at a time — make it seem like he’d rather pull out his own fingernail than tell. But he does so anyway, stilted and hesitant, and something cold slides down Ryan’s spine every time.

It takes a few more weeks for him to name that feeling guilt, but it’s the closest he’s probably going to get.

TIME found in the loneliest time (hockey rpf, this is a 5+1 that is missing 1 scene, it's about kent's relationships after owen and how they find each other again)

That’s why it comes as a shock to him when Kent and Johnny announce their separation, in a mutual statement released on the CBJ account three days before Kent announces his official retirement from the NHL.  They’d been married for five years, Owen distinctly remembers checking “no” on the RSVP.   The last time they had seen each other had been such a shitshow that Owen didn’t want to risk it again, not on Kent’s special day.  He doesn’t even know why they would send him an RSVP anyways, but it was what it was.  They posted a few photos of their first look on their Instagram accounts respectively, and Owen had been bold enough to like one.  Kent had looked ethereal in his white suit and all Owen could think about is how glad he was that Kent was looking genuinely, genuinely content.  He never thought that Kent would fall out of love with Johnny, but Owen doesn’t pretend like he knows that Kent at all anymore. Life moves on.  Owen feeds his goats and collects eggs from his chickens and waters his flowers that he planted for someone who will never see them.   He’s happy, as happy as he can be with a life built around a hole in his heart.  He’s accepted that this is as good as it’ll get for him, and that it’s enough. It’s enough.

DOWN found in lay your head down (this is a 5sos fic, it's a soft bdsm au that will probably end up to be around 30k once i'm done with it)

Luke’s a sub. Ashton knows this because he’s known Luke nearly longer than he hasn’t, and has known his designation since they were 18 in the UK and Luke had called him drunk from a club for a ride.  Ashton hadn’t asked questions that night, not when Luke refused to look at him, not when Luke purposefully tugged the sleeves of his sweater down to cover the bracelets on his right wrist.  Ash doesn’t ask about it in their present-day either. What Luke does as a sub is entirely his business, and his business alone, and it’s not Ash’s prerogative to know anything about his preferences.  He values Luke far too much as a person for that.  He also knows that if he did ask, Luke would take it as Ashton, a dom, judging him for what he likes.  And that’s not a power dynamic Ashton is at all interested in playing with.

Kent could feign tiredness and pretend like he’s going to bed, to freak out about the events of the whole week like he wants to.  But Owen would just see right through it, like Kent is cellophane on stage again.  He’ll ask questions, even if everyone else on the bus is either asleep or going to sleep already.  Except for Jimmy who is sipping yet another coffee and clacking away at his computer at the front lounge.  His glasses are slowly sliding off his face, and Kent knows he’ll be conked out at the desk there in less than ten minutes.

Luke’s human is sad again.  It’s the third time this week. Yesterday, his human hadn’t been able to get out of bed.  The day before that, he had thrown up his dinner before Luke could gently nudge him into eating dessert. Today?  Today, Luke’s human is crying on the phone to his friend.  At the very least, his human had mustered up the courage to move from his bed to his couch.  It’s a start.  Luke knows it’s not enough. “I just miss her so much Michael,” Luke’s human sniffles loudly, wiping his nose with the sleeve of his dishevelled robe.  Luke’s pretty sure it’s the only clean clothing he has in his closet at the moment.  With a quick flick of his wrist, he sends a message to his human to get tissues.  His human get up to grab them immediately, blowing snot into one just as quick.  “I know it’s stupid to miss someone who wanted to leave you, but I miss her so much.” Luke’s human has always been great at listening to his commands.  Always.

hey you know what the fantilli bros would be perfect for? a while you were sleeping au. it's even highly plausible that adam could be drafted by chicago. truss is our lucy: had to take care of his failing parents growing up (and had to drop out of minor hockey to do so), never made it to college and now he's got a dead-end job as a fare collector on the L.

even though truss never got to play seriously, he's still a fan, and he sure recognizes hotshot 1C adam fantilli when he breezes onto the platform looking all handsome in his gameday suit. (NHL players take the L to united center in this pro-transit fic.) truss tells him good luck and adam smiles at him when he flips his token into the slot. (there are still tokens in this fic.) adam's a creature of habit and truss starts to look forward to seeing him catch the same train before every home game, and a little chitchat with truss becomes part of adam's gameday routine.

you know where this is going: adam gets mugged and shoved onto the tracks, truss rolls him out of the path of an oncoming train, and when the paramedics come they are focused on hustling their unconscious patient to the hospital instead of listening to truss when he tries to tell them that this is adam fantilli and he was on his way to the game and somebody needs to let the team know immediately. the paramedics tell him he can talk to the medical team at the hospital, and truss ends up in the ambulance holding onto adam's hand.

the hospital is considerably more interested in the identity of the patient and they assure truss that they're connected to the team medical staff and they'll take care of everything, and then they very firmly tell truss he's done everything he can and it's time for him to go. truss backs out of the ER as they pull a curtain around the bay where they're working on adam. "i was going to marry that man," truss whispers under his breath, wistfully.

a nurse who's hustling by him startles and turns around. "where are you going?" truss kind of stammers awkwardly that they told him to leave and she insists that he come back into adam's room and she hisses at the attending doctor that this is the fiance and everything is very awkward but jacob decides to roll with it for now if it means he can stick around; adam ought to have somebody here and everyone with the team's probably busy at the game.

of course everything gets even more awkward when a chicago trainer and someone from hockey ops show up and the medical team tells them this is adam's fiance, and then they're bending over backwards trying to behave appropriately about the news that their star player has a fiance and it's a guy. truss tells himself that from a sociological standpoint it's kind of interesting to see how this is going to play out (but also that's just a thin excuse to put off clearing up the misunderstanding; really he just wants to stay there holding adam's hand.)

he ends up falling asleep at adam's bedside and then he's woken up by adam's parents who drove all night from toronto. they are so happy to meet him; they don't hear enough from adam and they worry about him alone in chicago; truss seems like a lovely boy and they're so happy adam has someone; they're so grateful he saved adam's life; etc. etc. etc. truss starts looking around for his opportunity to exit and never be seen again, but then adam wakes up.

you know where this is going: amnesia. adam doesn't even remember his nhl team so it doesn't shock anyone that he doesn't remember his fiance. truss is finally, finally able to make an excuse and get out of there, but by then adam's parents have him in their phones and so does the team services rep who showed up that morning.

what i want is truss getting to know the bl*ckh*wks and finding out from the inside that culture change is not at all happening, as exemplified by the team's decidedly halfhearted efforts to embrace their star player's gay fiance. meanwhile, the fantillis keep calling him and taking him out to dinner and insisting he visit adam. truss gets to know adam, who is kind of baffled about the idea that he has a fiance, but truss seems like a really nice guy and adam can kind of see how he might have fallen for him, if he liked guys, which maybe he does? bisexuality is a thing, right? god, luca's gonna give him so much shit about this. adam's like, obviously, pro-gay or whatever, hockey is for everyone, blah blah blah, but being gay was supposed to be his brother's thing.

truss, however, is starting to get disillusioned by getting to know adam and finding out he's kind of a chicago apologist instead of having any thoughts whatsoever about meaningful change in hockey culture. adam completely understands the team's repeated refusals to treat truss the same way the WAGs get treated, like, adam can see how he might have forgotten about liking guys and getting engaged to truss but he's positive he never would have wanted them to be, like... public. chicago's just trying to be discreet, which is good for adam and good for the team, right?

and then luca shows up, extremely suspicious of his brother's fiance. luca didn't do all the hard work of coming out and enduring their parents' adjustment for adam to just waltz in with a gay fiance of his own. that would sure be typical though, huh? luca does all the work to prop up adam behind the scenes and adam just goes out and wins.

as he gets to know him, luca has to begrudging admit that truss doesn't seem like someone who's dating a hockey player for clout. truss is kind of quiet and sweet and, okay, he's pretty cute. he also happens to be down bad for luca, who coaches minor hockey and runs programs to make it accessible to underrepresented kids and has all these thoughts about how to structure youth programming to eliminate hazing and bullying. one night they get a little drunk together and end up talking about how they're both frustrated that adam's in a good position to be a force for change and he won't do shit except use rainbow tape on pride night. they both end up feeling guilty, not because anything happened, but jacob feels like he's betrayed his, uh, fiance's. uh, principles or whatever, and luca realizes he really wants to kiss his brother's fiance right on the mouth.

idk how things shake out from there but obviously it's endgame jacob/luca. also idk who should be the ashley bartlett-bacon equivalent but i think maybe one of adam's teammates (let's say fellow chicago prospect dom james?) is absolutely furious because if adam was going to like guys then why not dom, huh? i think that'd be a fun lil sidepair.
