A quick obituary, if y'all don't mind.

In 2018 my cat Lace died. it was sudden and mysterious and she went to one of her favorite spots to do it alone. She was buried just before a big hurricane at the beginning of summer. a little bit later me and my mom took a road trip to Georgia to see family, and I was inspired by the life and death i saw on the side of the roads to draw the 24/7 Haunted Roadside Diner comics.

In 2022 my cat Coup died. it was a long fight through 7 months of cancer that ended with me holding him at the vet as he took one last big jump after months of losing the ability to do so. he was cremated just before a big hurricane at the end of summer. a little bit later me and my mom took a road trip to Georgia to see family, and I was inspired by the life and death i saw on the side of the roads to draw more 24/7 Haunted Roadside Diner comics after not thinking about them for years.

They were total brats to each other most of the time and they could never agree on anything, but they were my friends for almost half of my life and they called truces to sit on my bed together and comfort me during the Bad Health Times or the Bad Emotions Times. I didn't realize that I was repeating history a little bit until I was almost finished redrawing these first 5 pages, but I think it's funny that even though they tried to go out as they lived, as fussy little opposites, that I started really healing from both of their deaths creatively in the same way. So here's to the prettiest girl in the world and the baby boy. I probably could have gotten weird enough emotionally to write about roadkill ghost stories on my own, but y'all made it way easier to get there.

I redrew the first 5 pages to fit in better with any future 24/7 HRD comics I want to do (and generally flex my improved art/writing skills), so I’ll be posting one of those a day for the next few days. I've got 5 more pages and some illustrations planned for spooky season (October/November) along with some Downtrodden stuff so y'know. Nature is healing.

Hopefully I'll have more to post soon. the future is lookin' lonelier without my small grey guy, but it'll still have bright spots I bet. I hope.

Tips for drawing in The Owl House style?

I'm not very good at tutorials but I'll try to give some tips with this OLD drawing and the redraw I did of it two years later as examples

The main thing to understand when drawing in the Owl House style is proportions (the main difference between these drawings)

You're gonna have to get used to drawing skinny bodies with long legs cause that's most TOH characters. A majority of the characters legs make up like half of their bodies. (Though it's more noticeable on the teens and women than the men)

You notice how their necks are too sort in the first picture? The length TOH characters necks vary depending on height, most likely for a more defined silhouette. Because the Hexide uniforms have hoods, most of the teenagers have long enough necks so their heads are visible not touching their hoods

Although not all as shorter characters have shorter necks

Meanwhile tall characters, like the adults, have longer necks. Eda (and Lilith) actually have long necks while Camila who's short has a shorter neck. Raine's is normal but still visible shorter than Eda's. Same with Luz.

Should go without saying but the wider a character's body is the wider a character's neck should be (I see alot of people draw fat characters with skinny necks). More noticeable, most of the adult men have a broad build and therefore have much wider necks compared to the women and children

Also, the witches ears are not completely pointed at the end, they're slightly rounded.

This could be easily missed, but some of the female characters (like Eda and Amity) have thicker outlines for their eyes, almost like their wearing mascara

If shading matters to you, most of the time the shading is limited to under the nose (unless they have a hooked nose), under the neck and SOMETIMES on the ears. Of course it depends on the scene and the setting.

This last point doesn't matter at all but I've noticed alot of cartoons draw blush differently. Some do solid color horizontal ovals, some do a full gradient splotch across the nose, some just do lines.

In the Owl House when most characters blush its the gradient spots on each cheek, and sometimes they do the lines thing too. Or both.

The only exception (I think) is Amity (+Alador I guess) who blushes across her whole face sometimes and Raine who reapeatly blushes on their nose/across their nose. They both also do the line thing too.

So here's some redraws, it was a delight to draw the new Bad Kids designs and finally get to make my art just that little bit closer to what little 16 year old me was aiming for. :-)

Wenzhou's first appearances and first time meeting!

I think those were my first serious attempts at illustrating TYK scenes? I do feel an itch to redraw the WKX one, to be honest, because his design and my way of drawing him changed a little. I also have another expression in mind -although this one isn't bad. I recently reread both passages -his first introduction/description and their first time meeting- and I love how expressionless and almost inhuman WKX is described. Although I think I managed some of that in my illustrations, I still hope I'll get a chance to try again later. Also! His nails are so short on the first meeting one, compared to how long I draw them now! That's funny.

ZZS hasn't changed much, though. Ever since I started obsessing with his book description, his design and face shape have been pretty solid in my mind. I have an interesting story about his mouth shape, though. I tend to prefer drawing plush, sexy lips. When I read the description of his "thin lips" in the books (both Qi Ye and TYK), I was quite dissappointed at first. I remember messaging at least 3 mandarin-speaking friends to confirm with them that the words used in mandarin (薄 in Qi Ye and 轻薄 in TYK) really weren't just a metaphor for something and had to be understood as "thin". That investigation sent me into a small rabbit hole: In QY, the description doesn't leave much room for interpretation. 薄means "thin", and that's it. Interestingly enough though, in the case of TYK, the fan translations all had a different interpretation for the whole sentence describing ZZS' mouth :

嘴唇却轻薄得很，叫那俊美的脸凭空添了一种薄情寡义的味道。

The word highlighted, 轻薄, has been translated as : "scornful", "contemptuous" and "very thin". According to the dictionary, it can mean "light", "frivolous", "a philanderer", "disrespectful", "to scorn". Pretty open to interpretation, then. But the interesting bit is in the following idiom, also highlighted : 薄情寡义. According to Lianzi, and later my own research, it is used to described someone who has no feelings nor attachment, or as a person who plays with hearts but never gets attached (a bunch of articles would use that expression to describe the type of men women should never date, lol). The sentence can then be turned into two widely different directions, right? Disrespectful can fit well with "someone who has no feelings". In my opinion, though, I like the idea of "frivolous" (or insouciant, as Lianzi translated it) being paired with it. A slight smile, almost charming, but devoid of any actual feelings. I think it suits the persona of someone who has had to deal with nobles and court people for the past 10 years, but who is also, now, empty inside and just can't wait for his freedom, wich is now within a few hours' reach. On top of that, ZZS tends, within the novel, to smile and laugh quite often, and he's quite the agreeable person, save for with ZCL and sometimes WKX. Clearly, when he lets his emotions and true self speak more, he does tend to be more prone to emotional outbursts, anger and grumpiness, but a semi-permanent light smile on his lips does feel very fitting, to me. Anway, that's it for the bigger-than-expected meta chunk on ZZS' mouth haha. I wish there was a lot to say about WKX's appearance too, but we don't have much to work with aside from ZZS just gawking at how beautiful and statuesque he is. No precise features to analyse and adapt, unfortunately. Anyway, thanks for reading!

Hey Hello! ヾ(≧▽≦*)o It's been a while since I was last here... Almost two years in fact.（＞人＜；） I wanted to update my blog a long time ago, so at least with this little update there is also a little drawing! I hope you like it! I really haven't forgotten UT yet (and by God I haven't forgotten Frans), after all it's attached very deep in my heart

The rest is more like a kind of journal, it's not necessary to read it, but at least I wanted to tell a little about what happened to me, because HEY I haven't died yet xD

But what has happened? oh yes, I changed the name of my blog and also the username! If you remember Miminbot, well...this is me now, nice to meet you❤

Throughout this year and some that I've been away, many things have happened, changed and above all I'm still adjusting to them. especially my work, now it is more tiring and heavy than before, which has taken away my time to draw as I want. A lot of my tastes also changed with this time, in fact I think they veered in a weird direction *cofcofDBZcofcof* but I've been fine with it, however, I always had that little thorn of wanting to redraw UT content, but as always , lack of time. so I took advantage of the little space I got to make this little drawing. I am still waiting to return with this AU, and I hope at some point, sooner or later, to fulfill it.

One of the many bad things that had happened to me was my tendinitis. over time it got better. Now despite my lack of time, I can draw more comfortably. ironic, right? xD

Another of the reasons why I took the courage to come back was thanks to a friend, she somehow encouraged me to try again, so really, I'm also here thanks to her.

But well, I'll try to come back, I can't promise perseverance, since my work is absorbing TvT but at least once in a while I'll try to post, especially Frans, you know I love Frans! But I'm really glad to be here again Thank you very much to everyone who supported me during my most active time, and to the people who saw my post even when the blog was inactive. Really thank you very much (´▽`ʃ♡ƪ)

Old fanart I did last year (June 2022) of F.A.N.G and A.K.I. when no one had any idea what the latter’s personality was going to be like. Almost all of my fanart of AKI at the time had her serious and unsmiling. Her concept art portrayed her as such, and almost everyone had that notion too. Until later when concept arts, the comic and especially the trailer came out, that’s when everyone realized that AKI actually has much more varied personality. Funny how out of all the fanarts I’ve done of her prior to the reveals, the one where I thought I was just being silly was perhaps the most accurate depiction lol

Happy Easter, folks <3

I wanted to draw something fun for the holidays, but I'm still stuck with this year's redraw + working on worldbuilding a lot lately + had some new ideas that required my attention + I'm forcing myself to get some rest too. But this year's redraw is almost done (at least I hope so), probably share it during this week :D

Putting this aside, I'm still proud how this version of Lash turned out. I really enjoyed the rendering process, finally got some ideas how to implement her in a storyline and I also converted her into the 5e system, making her a Circle of Witherbloom druid because of her arm.

Speaking of which, the full storyline isn't clear yet though, I only know that she touched a cursed item somewhere at some point, and that deadly curse spread rapidly from her fingers, blackening her hand, later on her entire arm, stealing her lifeforce in the meantime. She was able to travel back home just in time, where her mother, a powerful druid, helped her immediately, though her arm was in such an extremely bad shape, that it had to be removed. They couldn't lift this nasty curse fully either, so her mother replaced the arm with the branches of a magical tree, that now slows down the effects, giving Lash another century or so to live. Thanks to these, now she is able to wield necromantic powers, though every time she does so, it'll take away months, or even years from her lifespan, blackening her new arm just a bit more.

In the off-chance any teenagers are out there who might need to hear this: please don't destroy the stuff you make. Even if you think it's shit. Even if it IS a bit shit.

I have almost no art or writing that I created before the age of 18, bar a couple of things my mum managed to keep from my very early childhood, because I started destroying stuff I made if it wasn't exactly how I wanted it to be when I was pretty young and tended to get rid of anything that managed to survive its creation if it resurfaced a couple of years later - something I was proud of at 13 would be ripped out of a sketchbook and thrown away when I was 15, say. Now that I'm in my mid-twenties, it's started to feel like a huge shame that I can't look back at my old stuff, even if it's just to laugh at it. I get a bit jealous of artists who can post comparison photos or redraws now. So don't be me!!! Keep your work, even if you don't look at it for a decade! You'll probably be glad you did!
