A Dragon’s Lucky Charm: chp 1

Another piece that has been in the works for a few years and I finally did the thing. So much research went into this and there’s even some hints to Ikemen Sengoku eventually.

Story summary: Experience the anime series at Masamune's side. A mysterious woman has joined Date Masamune's side. Experience the anime series through her eyes, even as the Dragon becomes infatuated and eventually falling in love with his Lucky Charm.

Bold is actual dialogue from the anime, caps plus italics is Masamune’s signature English.

Chapter 1

She climbed the hill with one lone cherry blossom tree up top. The chest armor she was made to wear as a precaution was long gone, lying below the hill where the rest of the men were prepping for the next day but honestly, most of them were drinking and partying. They asked her to join them but she politely declined. Now she was just in her light blue kimono. This wasn’t her scene. Besides, she was more concerned with the man in azure sitting under the tree. At first, he was watching the impromptu festivities alone, his own drink in hand, but soon he was joined by the man he trusted the most. She wanted to leave them be but she just wanted to check up on him. He got kind of “riled up” earlier today.

As she approached the tree, it seemed like the two men were talking strategy on what to do next. Today wasn’t a total loss but it definitely didn’t go as planned. She stopped, leaning against the tree and allowing the two to finish their conversation before she asked to join them.

“-if I had to give it a name: The Woodpecker Maneuver.”

“That does sound like a pretty fun game. Count me in, Kojuro.”

The two men looked at each other and smirked as Masamune took a sip from his drink. Kojuro seemed to notice her first, turning to glance at her and giving her a faint smile. Soon after, Masamune also turned to look to see what Kojuro was looking at and gave her a smirk. She blushed. She didn’t realize she was staring until now.

A/N: Originally written for Day 2 of YumeWeek 2022, hosted by yumecentral over on Twitter. Inspired by the song of the same name by LIPxLIP ft Minami. Because I’ve got a very series case of Honeyworks Disease (instead of a brain, I have Honeyworks songs looping in my head 24/7), this one ended up being my favorite entry, and thus demands that I post it on Tumblr, to once again be a nuisance

I do not think this needs to be said, but do no pick up stray cats carelessly, no matter how friendly they are

The Cat sighed, watching The Boy. He looked behind him, almost as if he was in a daze. He wasn’t fully sure of what he was looking for, as all memory of her had been erased from his memory.

From everyone’s memory. That was the terms of the agreement The Cat made with The Sun and The Moon.

The Moon granted her the ability to speak, and The Sun gave her a human body. For one month, The Cat would be able to stand by The Boy’s side as a classmate, and find a way to properly thank him for the kindness he showed her that day. But when the hourglass had run its course, or if her secret was ever spilled, she would revert back to her natural form, and all traces of her existence during that brief time would be forgotten. Including the budding blossoms of love that tickled their hearts.

“You can go to him, you know.” The Moon whispered, a gentle hand running down her back. The Cat looked over at The Sun from her position on The Moon’s lap, who smiled in return.

“That’s right.” The Sun had more to say, but The Cat didn’t stick around to listen. Her heart raced as she leaped down from their perch on the rooftop, running to catch up with The Boy.

Even if she couldn’t be with him in the way she wanted to, The Cat still wanted to be near The Boy. There are other ways to show how much you love someone, after all.

It didn’t take long for The Cat to reach The Boy. She gave a gentle meow, causing him to stop in his tracks. The Boy turned around, and smiled when he saw her.

He was happy to see her.

“I haven’t seen you in a while, have I?” The Boy knelt down and The Cat nuzzled her head into his outstretched hand. She meowed again, licking the back of his hand and purring. The Boy laughed.

The Cat stood on her hind legs, leaning on his bent knee, and meowed again. The Boy kept petting her, running a gentle hand from the back of her head down the length of her spine. Without much of a second thought, The Boy picked up The Cat, and continued walking home.

The Cat rested her forelegs over his shoulder, gently kneading her paws into the fabric of his uniform’s jacket while happily purring. It wasn’t exactly the Fairytale Happy Ending she had dreamed of, but Cinderella’s companions had never been feline in the first place.

The Sun and The Moon watched quietly in the treetops, smiling at one another before fading away.

A job well done.
