#something that /can/ be true is more like a headcanon or fits into fanon

#1 problem with some analysis is that people turn the narrative into something which supports their own beliefs rather than trying to understand the argument the show is making in itself, whether you agree with it or not
one of my teachers tells us constantly that it isn’t about what you believe but about what you can argue with what you’re given. whether or not you agree with the message doesn’t matter, it’s about understanding the message in the first place

Do you have any fun Piper headcanons?
BOY DO I
She wears velcro shoes. they're the gaudiest, tackiest looking ones she could find that fit her from the kid's section. I personally usually like to give her Hello Kitty ones. She wears them cause they're fun and colorful and also ADHD causes problems with fine motor control which can make it hard to tie shoelaces, and the bright colors are great for sensory stuff, so colorful kid's velcro sneakers it is. This is so important to me.
Hair ties! I like to give her two braids down the side of her face tied off with big chunky bright hair ties. My hc with that is that she braids her hair as a stim, and those are just the easiest chunks of hair to braid and unbraid idly (source: that was one of my stims back when i had long hair), plus probably chews on them as another stim (she needs a chew necklace real bad she'll get one eventually). The hair ties being bright colors is once again sensory stimulation from bright colored clothing/accessories go brrr, they bonus as an extra fidget, and also she adores tacky/gaudy stuff and anti-fashion so they go right in with her aesthetic (or lack-there-of).
Okay so yknow how everybody started drawing Piper with beaded earrings. I disagree with the style of earrings everybody gives her - most people go with giving her BIG dangly beaded earrings. I don't think she's a big earrings person, or particularly a dangly earrings person, or at least not a "stylish" big earrings person. I DO however think she'd 100% adore beaded fandom earrings, like these hello kitty ones, or these Kiki's Delivery Service ones.
In general i think she owns so much youtuber merch. It is a solid staple of her wardrobe. The sillier and stupider, the better. She DEFINITELY has the GMM "Everybody knows i love lesbians" merch. She is the target demographic of that ridiculous redbubble merch stuff that's like, a throw blanket that's a collage of insert-youtuber-here's face. Also just general fandom merch. Again, the more ridiculous the better. She hates fashion you KNOW she's mix-and-matching cosplay pieces at least half out of spite just for fun.
She also 100% buys jackbox Tee-KO tshirts and has a whole collection of them.
Because I like giving Piper at least some sense of "I know people who exist outside of the main cast of protagonists" (that is severely lacking in HoO) i like to hc that Shel is an old childhood friend of hers that was like neighbors with her grandpa or something similar, so whenever Piper would visit they would hang out. When Piper moves to Oklahoma they start hanging out again and start dating.
She has very eclectic music tastes. When she was younger it was mostly she hated everything "popular" out of principle but as she got older it's just anything, though a general lean for stuff a la 2000s top hits, cause she is not immune to nostalgia. or late 2000s emo.
Contrary to popular fanon I don't hc that Piper and Leo were "true" friends pre-Hera memory shake-up. I imagine they had one of those school alliances you sometimes make where you see each other every day and you prefer working with them during class versus whoever else but you know like all of 4 things about them including their name and you've never hung out outside of class before. Immediately after their TLH quest they shift to more of a "we are in a new environment (hell of a situation with ADHD/autism) full of strangers (hell. hell on earth) but we know who each other are and are already familiar with one another so. CAMARADERIE." and by the end of the Argo II quest it's a "okay we're ACTUALLY proper friends now." They're not each other's best friends (Piper's is Annabeth and Leo's is Hazel) but they have a VERY strong unique bond of "we've been through this with each other from the beginning, since before all this demigod stuff."
Piper is very "queer label fuckery" to me. She'd LOVE defying boxes and just messing around with all of that. She's digging deep to find niche labels and using atypical combos and it's a really great identity sandbox for her. Also messing around with gendered language in a similar manner.
I don't care what canon says she and Drew eventually warm up to each other and become good siblings to me. Piper unlearns her internalized misogyny and Drew unlearns some of her toxic femininity and they learn to appreciate each other's perspectives - Drew eventually comes to find Piper's perspectives on fashion and the entertainment industry fascinating and Piper respects how outspoken and self-advocating Drew is. They get really into DIY fashion projects together - Piper's goal is to get Drew hooked on alt fashion and it's working.

From what I can tell, in the actual books there's just one line from Sirius saying Alphard left him some gold, and not much other canon mention of him. How did Alphard become such a big character in your fics/Tom Riddle's love interest?
You know, that's a very good question.
The true and full story behind how Alphard Black became an important character in our fics is laden with a lot of spoilers and back-and-forth, though I will say it wouldn't have happened at all if @theoriginalcarnivorousmuffin hadn't already used him in When Harry Met Tom. When we later then needed to add a character for The Man Who Would Be King, Alphard's name lent itself easily and on discussion we found he was the only that really fit the role we needed a character to play. He went on to become a surprisingly large part of secret fic, now we've imprinted on him like baby ducks and he's in everything.
So, what makes Alphard Black so fitting for what we need him to be?
We have little to go on from canon, but compared to some of the other characters fandom has decided on characterisation for, we at least have something to go on when we make stuff up. Oh, we have to conjecture, fabricate, and headcanon away, and for every possible Alphard Black we draft up someone could have used those same clues to create a different Alphard, but we would both be following certain constraints.
By contrast, characters like Alice Longbottom or Abraxas Malfoy have very strong fanon characterizations, a lot read into them, but I'd argue we have just as much, if not slightly more, to go on with Alphard Black.
With that said, here is the information we have on Alphard and how Muffin and I used every bit of it to make up as much as we could.
Teen pregnancy 1.0: Pollux edition
Alphard's sister was born when their father Pollux Black was twelve, and his father married her mother. Going by his young age, I assume this was so Walburga wouldn't be a bastard. Walburga, by her painting's ravings, appears to have spent all her life in 13 Grimmauld Place, she feels a connection to "the house of my fathers" and always had a strong sense of Black identity she tried to pass on to her sons: I think it's a very fair assumption that the Blacks raised the baby, and not her mother's family (as her mother would have been in Hogwarts as well or else a statutory rapist, either case spells a grim homelife for Walburga).
Now, Alphard's birthdate is unknown since he's struck off the family tree, but it was sometime between 1925 and 1938.
Muffin and I have decided that he was born the next year, since this gives Tom a dorm mate, and more importantly it gives Alphard a teen father, one who learned nothing from last year and assumed no responsibility. Tom now has a fucked up dorm mate, and we didn't have to (completely) invent a character.
You now have two kids raised by family members not their parents since their father is a literal thirteen-year-old, and the generational age gap is so narrow that when Walburga starts school her paternal aunt Dorea is canonically a fifth year. They want for nothing materially and the family does step up, but the complete parental absence in their life has an impact.
For the sake of funny, we thought Arcturus Black, who is already raising Lucretia and Orion, is our candidate for raising his cousin's spawn. Now Walburga's marriage to her second cousin is to someone who was raised alongside her, which is funny and so awful. Another feasible candidate is Cygnus Black, Pollux's father and currently raising four kids, but... not as funny.
Teen pregnancy 2.0: Cygnus edition
Cut to 1951. Alphard is a happy bachelor, his father has stopped having kids (legitimate ones anyhow), Walburga's happily married to their cousin, and then... their brother Cygnus does a booboo.
Bellatrix is born, Cygnus is thirteen. Andromeda's birthdate is unknown, but must have been while he was in Hogwarts because Narcissa is born in 1955, while he is still seventeen.
The same problem as with Pollux arises with Bellatrix: who wants baby? And, as with Walburga, I think a fair argument could be made that the Blacks took her in, not the Rosiers.
There are many options here (and can't rule out the Rosiers), but I think it's fair to assume Bellatrix went to live with close family.
Per the Black family, this gives us three options that I find feasible: Walburga, Alphard, and Pollux.
I don't think it was Walburga, I think that would inevitably have come up in canon, either as Walburga lost her shit when Andromeda eloped, handled her grief differently after Regulus died if she had surrogate daughters, or Sirius had a different dynamic with Bellatrix. The Orion-Walburga-Sirius-Regulus family unit doesn't come across at all as having had three nieces raised alongside the boys, so Walburga's a no.
Which leaves us with Alphard, Pollux, someone in the Rosier family, or extended Black family raising Bellatrix.
Pollux, per his wild youth, might not be topping the lists. One could posit that Pollux wants a second shot at parenting and would take in his granddaughter based on this, but he already has Cygnus if he wanted a second shot at parenting. Still, he's a candidate.
So is Alphard, however, who is living alone and has no wife to worry about, no children of his own, and a pile of gold. Per his choice to give Sirius gold after he ran away, one can also assume he's one to come through for family, which fits with taking in his much younger brother's daughter.
TL;DR: we can't prove Alphard Black didn't raise the Black sisters, or at least care for them in their early years, but someone must have and it might as well have been him.
Let there be no pregnancies and no marriages
We then enter the bit that had Muffin go "oh, gay. I will use him in my fic" long before any of the detective nonsense to come up with the above, which is that Alphard did not marry. Now, that could mean anything, perfectly straight people don't marry and gay people do marry.
However, from 1938 through 1960, no Black heirs are born. Which isn't necessarily a long time, on the contrary, Cygnus has been supplying the family with children for years now, luck just had it so they're all daughters who can't pass on the family name.
Still, taking a step back, Orion, Walburga, Alphard, and Lucretia (who married a Prewett) are all adults who are just not having any children. The Orion and Walburga are perhaps not even married, we don't know when they married, and it could be they married specifically because neither of them had found anyone else to marry and there were no sons. Alternatively, they married earlier but then did not have children until they were in their mid-thirties. Considering Lucretia's childless marriage, it might be some Blacks struggled with infertility.
A bit of nerding about why I think Walburga waiting so long to have children is odd
The tldr for Western European demographics is that if you can afford to have children and provide for your family, you will marry and have children early. The upper classes have historically married and had children much younger than the lower classes because of this. The mother's education will also impact when she has children - higher education means having children later.
I think we see this reflected in the wizarding world, in that education is both low (arguably nonexistent, considering the curriculum at Hogwarts) and in magic making material considerations Muggles must make obsolete. And we do see a lot of young parents - Lily and James are both 20 when they have Harry, Andromeda is maximum 24 when she has Nymphadora Tonks, Molly Weasley is 20 when she has Bill, Narcissa is 25 when she has Draco, Fleur would have been 23-25 when she had Victoire, Harry and Ginny are 26 and 25 when they have James Sirius, Hermione and Ron are 26-27 when they have Rose...
Young is the norm.
And with the Blacks, who were lineage obsessed, and where Walburga is never reported to have had a career keeping her busy, I find it very interesting that Walburga doesn't have children until she's 35.
There are three possible explanations I can see:
Walburga and Orion didn't want to have children, and waited for Alphard or Cygnus to get on with it, only for Cygnus to only have daughters and Alphard to have no children at all (bit unlikely since they had two sons, a couple who pointedly did not want children would have called it quits after the first)
They had fertility issues
Walburga and Orion did not instantly marry, but waited for years until it became clear Orion wasn't going to find anybody else, Alphard apparently not either, and Cygnus said "fuck you all, I've contributed three kids already", at which point Walburga and Orion were both single, both cared about the lineage, and went for it.
We've gone for option 2 since it's just funnier to have a pair of cousins all over each other at Hogwarts, "Aren't they-" "Yes and they're very happy together :)", but I think option 3 is pretty feasible too.
Either way, you can read into Walburga and Orion from the late births of their children and you also get free Alphard characterisation, because his choice not to marry starts to look rather pointed.
Back to Alphard
While the Blacks were not dying out at the time, they also weren't swimming in children. Only Cygnus was passing on the family name, and that was exclusively to daughters, and he went on to have no more (legitimate) children after leaving school. Pollux wasn't having any more (legitimate) children, and while there are and grandfathers uncles on the family tree who could do the deed they were quite old, many unmarried, and most importantly they canonically had no children.
We're down to Alphard, Orion, and Cygnus having to pass on the family name, with Orion and Walburga a decade into their marriage with no sons to show for it. Sure, Cygnus could have sons, but that would be placing all their dragon eggs in one dragon basket (and indeed, he had no sons).
Why doesn't Alphard marry?
The family must have brought it up, if not pressured him. Alphard not marrying in a world where arranging a match would have been the easiest thing in the world looks to me like a deliberate refusal.
The giving of the money to the Sirius
This all brings us to the one thing we know for sure that Alphard did in his life: he willed money to Sirius after he'd been disowned.
We know Alphard was not a blood traitor prior to this, or he'd have been burned off earlier.
I frankly take this to mean Alphard most likely subscribed to pureblood supremacy, or at least he did not mind it enough to do anything else to cross his family. Giving money to Sirius isn't a political act, it's an uncle providing for a family member who has suddenly lost everything.
(And, if we assume Alphard himself is gay: it's an uncle who sees his nephew run away from home to be with his best friend, and perhaps drawing a few conclusions of his own about the strength of Sirius's friendship to James. There are many ways to interpret his choice to support Sirius financially, is what I'm saying.)
It also seems a distinct overreaction to me that Walburga would burn him off the family tapestry for something like this, and... it seems very much like one angry, mourning, woman's way of hurting a brother she can no longer confront. If she had been hoping Sirius wouldn't make it out in the wild and be forced to return, then Alphard giving him money would be a betrayal of the highest order.
Walburga putting a cigarette to her wallpaper isn't the same as the entire Black family disowning Alphard posthumously, it's an act of grief and anger.
Where we make things up wholesale
I'll go ahead and assume Alphard was gay, had a good and stable but slightly fucked up family life, and got overly attached to his dorm mate Tom Riddle as a stranger to all of this who perhaps seemed above it all. I also vote he raised Bellatrix, Narcissa, and Andromeda, because it's a more interesting option than Pollux. (In case you didn't notice, Muffin and I subscribe to the Black family being as fucked up as we can reasonably make them.)
Vinelle, what was the point of this?
My point is that we may not have any canon appearances to go on with Alphard Black, but we do have dates, biographical facts, what he did with his will, a few statements from Walburga's insane painting and other characters, and a whole lot of imagination. And an obsessive tendency.
And a willingness to say "Mm, no. Can't read. Sorry, that fact's just wrong." when we don't like things (more specifically, Sirius's phrasing making it sound like Alphard died not too long after Sirius ran away from home, which would make him dead for The Man Who Would Be King, a fic that takes place in 1982. We will assume Sirius meant "gave", not "left".)
Wee.

Minecraft Worldbuilding Headcanons
-Players & Species
here is 1179 words of minecraft worldbuilding infodump
I would be spending several more hours working on this if I didn't cut it short here, so I might make a second part. But i'm.. kinda in finales week so I died today.
Included in this is references to some Minecraft YouTubers and their world building, namely Watchers, of the 2017 Evo SMP.
Feel free to use this for fics, art, comics, etc.
Includes headcanons for how Players work, are created, and function. Also how disabilities are accommodated!!!
Very simulation-esque. essentially my world building is as if The Sims were aware of what they are and they had access to make themselves god ig . cyber tech. yeah
Devs/Developers
The Devs/Developers are the first. As their world expanded, and the Universe grew, more of them would appear. They create the updates, design the Mobs, and ensure the future of their Universe; features, challenges and goals, for the Players to explore and use and learn from. The asexual creation of new Players. Purpose, for the Players to never get bored. Devs created the Watchers to manage the day-to-day of Players. Watchers fine-tune and teach the Mobs, kinda like playtesters, to give feedback to the Devs.
The Devs determined what is and isn’t a Player, and what qualifies something to be a Player.
There are slips, and with malicious or ignorant intent, someone not given the right to be a Player slip through, as man-made creatures. Non-intended “Players” do not respawn, have Communicators (see: Players), or inventories.
Mob hybrids were added one by one, as they assured they could have a quality of life, and make changes as fit to allow them to be.Older Creeper hybrids may look different from younger ones, for example, as they fine-tune their process to make them have the healthiest, safest and most fulfilling possible life.
Devs rarely spend time with any Players. The ones they do speak with are usually first generation, very old Players.
Watchers
(About Me: Watchers are god-like beings featured in an SMP known as Evo. They filled the role of overseers, and are typically interpreted to be the personification of the two things that speak to you in the End Poem. In the series, they were morally-neutral, punishing Players who did wrong, and awarding others. They put them through tasks and challenges, and led them to a series of portals that would take them through time, to new updates. The series started in the first version of Minecraft that featured servers. Nearly everything wrote is from my own worldbuilding or the fanon of others, as there is very little known about them in canon.)
The Player are made from the Universe, and made of the same code, but Watchers  ARE the Universe. They don't make the Players, but they make the Mobs that roams in each world. They oversee upcoming updates. There are only two Watchers who are the true Universe, the ones we see in Evo SMP, all other Watchers are “hired”/recruited based on their morality, strength, perseverance, or sometimes just sheer entertainment. Sometimes, in a situation of Permadeath, the Players that meet their standards are given the opportunity to expand their life and purpose by becoming a Watcher. They are taught the true Universe, the meaning of it all, and the power to manipulate it into life and love. Watchers can also turn animals into Players, and do so in the scenario that a world is deleted/abandoned by all of it’s occupants.
The head Watchers are the two that speak to you, the Player, during the End Poem. They are a bit disconnected but well-intentioned. They enforce laws, and assign Watchers to every Server and world to ensure it’s safety. The Old Watchers (as I’ll dub them) are god-like, and are the only ones that typically speak with the Devs on a regular basis. Not all Watchers are good. Some are centuries old, Players-turned-Demi-Gods who have watched all they love die or age. As such, their mentality may begin to crumble.
Those who are Watchers, stop aging. They no longer can scar, and all injuries are cured on respawn. The state of their body from before being transformed remains the same. For example, bad vision, scars, and hearing lost remain. Their body is frozen from where they left off. Temporary ailments, such as bags under eyes, scratches, bruises, etc. can still occure.
They have the ability to shapeshift, but it is something that takes effort, and can be blocked by Servers. Watchers can toggle between their Player form, where they left off when they were human, or in a Spectator-like form. Think biblical angel. Thick bird-like wings, that can come in a plethora of numbers.
The state of their Watcher form is determined typically by their mental or emotional state.
Watcher Form
Cool & Collected: One set of wings, long and angular with slick feathers. Appear in the vision of others like a foggy outline in the mist. Eyes covered by a mask.
Stressed & Anxious: One-Three set(s) of wings, feathers bristled and messy. Purple glow around the edge of the mask, and outline of eyes appear around them. Can appear shadow-like.
Angry & Upset: One-Six set(s) of wings, outstretched with a shimmery-crystal like appearance. Halo of eyes around their head. Their real eyes can also be seen glowing underneath the mask. Visual distortion to any that see's them in this state, like a graphical glitch.
Player Form Capabilities
Their eye color is now a hazy purple-gray. Similarly to their Watcher form, experiencing emotions can cause their eyes to turn to a more vibrant purple, and become illuminated.
They can shapeshift their form. If a Player was a hybrid before it's conversion to a Watcher, their traits remain. Their Watcher Form hides these features, and they can also be hidden or altered by their shifting.
Purple wings are always part of them, becoming part of their default form.
Wings can be altered while shapeshifting. Length, width, color, feathers vs scales, etc. are all able to be changed, but they always must remain part of them. Their size can, however, be made small enough to disguise them and appear human.
Wings, tails, hair length, hair color, ears, and clothes are all that can be manipulated. Unlike wings, hybrid Players can completely shift their tell-tale features away.
Players
Qualifications to be a Player
Cognitive Ability
Awareness of self (pain, desire, etc.)
One limb or more capable of holding and manipulating an item
Land mobility
Ability to care for one's own needs (The children of Players are not registered as Players until they reach that milestone. At ages six-eight, they obtain that status. Dependent on the age and maturity of a hybrid/non-human species)
Capable of Respawning
If all are met, they are registered as a Player. Being a Player comes with a Communicator, the main system to access the greater Universe.
Communicators
Communicators offer: Settings, server-list, world creation, texting/messaging, video calling, basic/generic social media
Players join a Server or world by selecting their desired location, and placing it on an unlit netherportal frame.
Communicators are not breakable, and are tethered to a player. They hover, teleport, follow you, and if you do "break it", like shattering it, it respawns. They are an extension of yourself, that allows you greater control in the Universe.
Communicators are the access point for Inventories. Inventories are a pocket-dimension, which you access through the Communicators Graphic User Interface. Breaking items drops them as a digital, or holographic image on the floor. Stepping or touching it will automatically collect it, and put it in your Inventory.
Players are capable of overwriting the inventory, by turning off the setting. Doing so will make it so your tools do not react how they typically wood, and work as real-world items. However, it also means physically carrying them and real manual labor.
Anthro/Animal Players
In the situation of a world/Server being deleted, Watchers and the Universe will pick the most interacted-with animal(s), and the ones that witnessed the most behavior of a Player, and the former mob(s) will take the Player's place. They are warped and made humanoid to fit the previously mentioned criteria.
The longer they were a pet/companion to the Player(s) the more memories of their time as a Mob they’ll remember. Most forget overtime, and will take on the memories of their Player/owner believing them to be their own.
Spawned
While Players can be born, they can also be spawned by Devs or Watchers. Players can be created anywhere from the ages of 8 and up. They will spawn (typically) in a single player world of their own, an assigned Username, and the knowledge that they're meant to survive and discover.
Hybrids
Hybrid Players are typically Mob and Human to qualify, but that's not always the case. There can be double or triple Mob hybrids, without Human, though uncommon. Hybrid Players can be born from two Human parents. In the case of a Player becoming pregnant, The Universe has a small chance of giving the baby a Hybrid-feature to make it more inclined to their surroundings. Hybrid Players are more common for Spawned, but both is possible. Two Hybrid Players of different species typically ends up with the child being one or the other, not both, but it can happen.
Usernames
Usernames for Spawned are automatically assigned, but can be changed.
Usernames for Players who are born, is a prompt given to them the day the world considers them a Player. At this time, their parent typically have given them a name. Their Username typically contains said name, but with alterations/additions. These Usernames are chosen by the Player, however, and as such can at-times be completely unrelated. That is their legal name.
Disability
Accessibility was painstakingly given to ensure every Player could live a life. Devs do not oversee the creation of every single person. They allow them to live, make mistakes, etc. and do not want every Player the same. There is assistance and accessibility for the hearing and seeing impaired, limited mobility folks, etc.
Deafness
Subtitles on their Communicator act as you imagine they would. Only seeable in your eyes, is a small black box in your peripheral that describes the sounds around you.
Visual indicator of where a noise is coming from. Each line in the Subtitles has a corresponding color, and an arrow of the same color, small and in the peripherals, that point towards its direction until it fades. Able to be turned off.
Blindness
One small earplug that narrates your surroundings. It gives the distance between you and a Player/Mob, the amount of blocks you’re looking at and what they are, the registered Username of a Player, etc. Warnings for steps up and step down.
The option to describe a Player (hybrid, hair and hair color, eye color, etc)
Some use a guide cane, or can train a mob to be their guide.  Some prefer the narration and can navigate through life fine that way.
Mobility
Using your Communicator, you can transform something into a wheelchair, crutches, cane, etc. In doing so, Servers will automatically allow you to keep them on/with you. It does not take space in the inventory. They are fully customizable by the Player.

it's the resistance to imagining any ending that does not simply replicate a system that is catastrophically failing right before our eyes and also would not have any reason to exist
I can't speak for everyone, but I think there's a strong aversion to discomfort present in this kind of mentality. There's a lot of lipservice to the notion of change and evolution and revolution, but a lot of fandom and people in general are VERY averse to anything, even storytelling, that doesn't ultimately result in something that they feel is comforting to their points of view or desires.
It's why people keep throwing fits about certain characters not doing things a certain way or according to certain archetypes. It's why certain plot points make people froth in the mouth or outright get it completely wrong.
They don't really seem to care all that much about story as a narrative or as a means to convey complex themes and messages that might be genuinely thought-provoking and uncomfortable, so much as they view stories as an extension of their own comfort zone, even at the expense of the story itself.
i mean. maybe. online culture is very inclined to treat discomfort as a Bad Thing that should be shunned (& in extremes, something people should be protected from feeling at any cost, which is part of what drives the pearl-clutching hays code 2! types).
but i think it's a lot more that:
fandom, being oriented around transformative engagement, is invested in the text primarily as a sandbox; the pervasive cultural attitude toward the text is that things you don't like can be discarded and the rest raided for spare parts. any space whose ethos is "fuck canon!" is going to disincentivize serious analysis of the text in favor of the creation of fanon—which is always homogenized and reduced to tropes because it's an accumulation of popular ideas, i.e. the organic crowdsourced cousin of corporate sanitization for mass appeal.
many fans do not differentiate clearly between canon and fanon to the point that there exists confusion between analysis (interpretation of the text) and headcanon (things held to be true irrespective of the text), which are in fact diametrically opposed and don't meaningfully overlap; consequently fanon is widely conflated with canon in addition to being prioritized.
fanon is shaped by cultural biases within the fandom which generally means "riddled with prejudice and stereotypes" and in rwby's case in particular means "sexist"—the story BEGINS with a fairly overt condemnation of the huntsmen system ("so you may prepare your guardians, build your monuments to a so-called 'free' world, but take heed: there will be no victory in strength"), and at the end of the first act a character gives a speech laying out it in even clearer terms. i do not think it's coincidental that the fandom that twists itself into pretzels to interpret salem and cinder in the harshest possible light is also the fandom that absolutely refuses to consider the possibility that these two characters Have A Point about the huntsmen system, actually.
most stories do not radically alter the narrative status quo. (this is true even of revolutionary narratives—the unjust system present at the beginning of the story will be overturned, yes, but more often than not the characters recognize the injustice from the beginning and at most learn that it's worse than they thought.) most stories do not slowly and inexorably build up to "the heroes are good, but the villain is right, and everyone needs to pull together to fix what is broken" as the climactic resolution. i cannot emphasize enough how unusual rwby is in what it's doing with salem, and the build up has been gradual enough—stretched over literally a decade!—that for longtime fans in particular, it's easy to overlook. fanon fills in the gaps with tropes, the complete monster who cannot comprehend good, the tarnished mentor nevertheless trying his best to do the right thing, the plucky heroes who fulfill his ideals in earnest, and later developments are interpreted through the lens of fanon.
to an extent it's a feature, not a bug: tropes over text is just what fandom is. it's just a lot more noticeable with rwby because a) rwby is an unusual story that does not lend itself easily to fanonification, and b) "the huntsmen system is broken and will fail" is an idea introduced into the narrative by two female villains who have been wronged by that system and the man who built it, so naturally the fandom dismisses it out of hand.

I got a question about winx, and I think you’ll be able to answer. So to get the enchantix a fairy needs to save her kingdom or somebody from there. Valtor is from Domino, right? (I guess, i’m not sure if it’s canon or it’s something i read in so many fics and became head canon for me) So if Bloom save him from something she would get her enchantix? 🤨
Big question, gonna divide that into strictly canon and somewhat headcanon-ish (as in interpreting canon).
Going with what's strictly canon? Probably not. Valtor's exact place of creation is left pretty vague, and the only real references that come to mind are Faragonda's explanation in s3 ep 7 or Valtor's allusion to a “shared past” in the infamous Andros episode. As always, there might be differences in dubs, but as far as I remember, Valtor is never specifically tied to Domino — to Bloom's parents and the company of light, yes, but not to the planet. And I feel like if it were the case, it would have had to be mentioned at one point or another. It’s a pretty important detail!
From what I recall of the German dub and the background animation that accompanied Faragonda's exposition, it seemed to be implied that Valtor was created somewhere out in space, so nowhere at all. With that, I’d argue that we can safely assume Valtor is NOT from Domino, and does not share Bloom's nationality (planetality?).
Which is why we're gonna delve into fanon-territory now and ask: does it matter?
Enchantix rules and regulation are, to me, a bit wonky. Even leaving aside the fact that Bloom was able to creative-mode her way into one, how does the magic that triggers enchantix determine whether the saved person is from the same planet as the fairy in question? Does it run a cold, calculated if(get(nationalityOfDamsel) = get(nationalityOfFairy)) {return Enchantix = true}? Does enchantix check passports? Does it trace bloodlines? What happens if the saved party in this situation is mixed-race or emigrated to another planet? Does only one nationality apply, do both, or neither? Is it more important what ethnicity or people you belong to, or does your current home address supersede that?
In a universe as big and diverse as the Magical Dimension, having a transformation take nationality into account is kind of difficult. And I’m not saying that’s a bad thing, or that enchantix is being racist or anything. It makes perfect sense that a transformation that elevates you to guardian fairy of a planet requires you to demonstrate your care and devotion to the people of said planet.
So here's my personal work around:
People with magical abilities hailing from the same planet tend to have similarities in power. Think Princess Galatea, a music-adjacent fairy, or Nova, who has a star theme going on. It’s not 100% guaranteed, and the system completely falls apart if you count the Earth fairies, but it did give me the idea that ppl who come from the same planet share some kind of magical origin. If that core slash origin fits to a certain degree, that’s enough for an Enchantix. Kind of like how blood types can match, but the DNA is still different.
And for that, I think, Valtor would 100% suffice. He pretty much consists of Bloom's magic. Or, well. The magic Bloom is in possession of. Mom said it’s her turn with the dragon flame.
That being said, something people tend to forget is that Enchantix runs on two-factor-authentication. You need to save someone who matches the criteria, AND you need to make a big and personal sacrifice. So not only would she have to save our local megalomaniac's well-dressed ass, she would need to make a sacrifice in doing so. Which is the trickier part, in my opinion.

Got some more questions
1: what made you name Jake’s hero name skybird?
2: how come Chris superhero name is Nightwing phantom instead of something else like super wing or maybe dark wing? Feels like a mouthful to me lol
3: what’s the most embarrassing thing that has happened to them? Either together or separate.
4: what horror movies have they tried to watch?
5: just like the supersons in canon (and maybe in some ppls fanons) have they ever do some slight teasing with each other? For example: calling each other dork, nerd, buttmunch, hit like a girl, etc…
6: what’s one cartoon/movie that they watch religiously? My headcanon for Chris that it’s SpongeBob.
Well my friend @gothicghost2000 , do I have some answers alright lol
1. Well what happened was that originally I gave Jake the code name of Bluebird since his main outfit was the Discowing colors on a Robin like suit. Only thing was, after some research, I rediscovered the character of Harper Row who went by Bluebird. Hence why I went with Skybird since I felt like it was different enough moniker name from Bluebird.
2. Well the idea was essentially to split the Nightwing mantle between Chris and Dick akin to how back at the marvelous competition, the X Men and Avengers gave a tendency for different teams that operate under a similar banner to bear a subtitle in order to help distinguish them. For example, the mainline X team can be X Men Gold while either a team of newly graduated members or even a time displaced version of the original team can be X Men Blue. Or there’s the main Avengers helmed by Captain America, Iron Man and Thor while another team lead by Hawkeye at San Francisco can be the aptly named West Coast Avengers.
So when differentiating Dick and Chris with the Nightwing mantle, since the former is more well known of the two (it’s a sad fact but true), I had to give Chris a way to let audiences know he too is a Nightwing albeit of a different sort than the one they’re most used to. I would’ve tried with a color based coding for them but I don’t know if Nightwing Orange would be as appealing sounding of a name since unlike Gold or Blue, it doesn’t sound a truly stand out color. So then I applied the fact Chris was born in the Phantom Zone and that his more distinctive powers are shadow based to the name process, hence Nightwing Phantom. Plus calling him simply Phantom by itself would be ripping off a golden age hero called the Phantom. So yeah…lol
3. For Chris, it would be the time Conner washed the laundry but he accidentally shrink Chris’ clothes so much but that morning he had to rush for school. The only thing that’ll fit him in the meantime was Lois’ wedding dress. You can imagine how red his face was when walking into class in said dress.
Meanwhile, there that one time Jake attempted singing a traditional Tamaranean folk song for a talent show. His louder wailing voice combined with the speakers needless to say certainly got not just tons of broken windows but a ribbon for sixth place
4. Mainly they stick to classic Universal Mosnters and if they feel especially brave, J-Horror movies starring Onryo, especially the Ringu and Grudge films. Though the first Ttime they tried watching Ringu, they were very very nervous around unlabeled video tapes
5. Chris and Jake probably do so especially at an earlier time when their little team was still barely coming together but far more lighthearted and less harsh in comparison to that other team. It’s more common for them to call each other teasing names during video game play throughs than out in their superhero jobs
6. For Jake, it’ll be both Powerpuff Girls Classic and of course Voltron Legendary Defender. For the latter case though, he completely ignores all the shipping that goes on in the fandom and just focuses on the show itself
Now as for the both of them being of them, two shows stand out being their go to ones: Avatar: The Last Airbender and Steven Universe

Woobie-fication is one of the worst results of fandom taking over the world. People want to fit every story into a fandom mould; a lot of stuff these days comes pre-fandomified, like a majority of Netflix shows or bad cartoons like The Owl House. But when there is an original, unique piece of fiction, fans will find a way to make it meet their preconceived notions and give them the emotional validation they want.
It’s really funny when this happens to something like Breaking Bad. It’s overall pretty hostile to LGBT readings, it’s extremely cynical, has a hopelessly depressing final season, and is about pure corruption for its own sake. Fans make it cute and create gay headcanons. It has no political theming and actively avoided having any artistic integrity on that front. Fans write analysis of how it’s about American health care or whatever. Etc.
The woobie-fication of Jesse Pinkman has long bothered me. I think he became the posterchild for unhappy fail children with semi-shitty parents. From there it follows that no actual character traits of his matter except that he yells “yeah bitch” and has charming moments. He’s everyone’s soft boy or angst punching bag.
I was around in the fandom in like 2017 which is when a lot of this started. It’s not just about people drawing an occasional cute comic—it’s watching fanon take on a life of its own. Like, here’s how the process played out with the Mike and Jesse relationship:
Walt is abusive to Jesse (true)
Mike is nice to Jesse (true)
Therefore, Mike and Jesse have an adorable Found Family relationship of deep significance which should be endlessly expounded on and turned into every other fandom adoptive father/son dynamic (boring and disconnected from what actually happens in the show)
It’s like people are more fans of fandom itself than whatever work they purport to get into. Mike does end up liking Jesse and trying to look out for him, but people actively ignore that Jesse is a full grown man in a criminal enterprise. I don’t really like Breaking Bad anymore but that’s not because it’s poorly written. It would never be so saccharine as to have Mike tragically sacrifice his life for Jesse or something. They kept it restrained and understated and that was why it worked. Mike knew that he couldn’t make Jesse’s decisions for him so all he did was give advice and walk away. But people are so base when approaching these things. Because they identify with Jesse, they need to make him into a thing they can project on to, and then they emotionally nurture themselves through this kind of fandomization. To some degree I think comfort seeking with escapist media is fine, but it’s just bizarre to me how people do that with something like Breaking Bad. Nothing is immune from this treatment.

Hey, I hope you are doing well and wish you have a great time on your trip ❤️
I wanted to ask if other than James and Lily is there someone who you think would be a great partner to Sirius?
I also believe that Sirius and Remus would definitely it work and their friendship isn’t as strong as James/Sirius. In my opinion I feel as James is the glue of the Marauders and he saw something “unique” in each of his mates. He does have a heart of gold which at times can cause him to give too much trust into people (Peter Pettigrew and the Order, because I still don’t understand how the Order members didn’t do much with Harry)
Especially during those eleven years he was living at the Dursley’s like come on where was the welfare check? So many Hogwarts letters, but no one really bothered checking on a child? Hmm, seems like a parallel to real life issues with child protective services.
Anyways, back to the question. Do you think someone would be a good fit for Sirius, if you exclude James and Lily? Even excluding Marlene McKinnon, I don’t want to ship shame anyone at all, because at the end of the day all these characters are in fact not real.
I don’t really see Sirius with Marlene, and honestly fanfic/fanon just tries to create this couple who is all leather jacket and go above the rules, plus Sirius with tattoos? I don’t he would be covered in them, but that’s just me 🤷🏽‍♀️ (also what do you think of leather jacket Sirius? I for one am not a fan, I believe he has a different style since growing up in the House of Black)
I’ve read a few well written fanfics (sadly I forgot to bookmark) in which Sirius is asexual and it’s actually quite interesting. I did enjoy those fics especially since they stayed true to his character and not making him ooc.
[i realize i written more than i expected 😅😅 dang it i try my best to condense but i keep adding more. Then again, i would be ooc if I didn’t write so much lol 😂 Sorry, love to know your thoughts ❤️]
Hi there, my dear Nena! ❤️
Your ask is very interesting and poses a lot of questions! So let's see:
For one, I don't headcanon Marlene McKinnon as someone in the Marauders' age range. I sometimes use her when I need a throwaway character, and I don't mind it as a background ship, but overall I don't care about Blackinnon.
(As I've seen argued before: Lily, in her letter to Sirius, mentions "the news about the Blackinnons". If Marlene was someone who Sirius cared about, wouldn't she at least ask him if he's all right?)
And yeah I don't really care about pairing Sirius with a pureblood witch which is his mirror image. I can see it, and many people can make relationships work with very different people, but I tend to believe that Sirius would need a romantic relationship with someone he can be tender with, and who would have a softer personality. In the sequel of a story that's still unfinished, he was sort of getting interested in a Muggleborn girl who had a bubbly personality and wasn't super skilled - I felt like a young Sirius would be attracted to someone he'd feel the need to protect, kind of a knight in white armour syndrome. Not so much because it's her but because he's protective by nature and a situation like that just works for him, you know? Otherwise I believe that, if you asked him what his ideal partner would be like, he'd tell you about a strong personality, intelligent and with a sense of humour.
Btw for years I COULD HAVE SWORN THE LEATHER JACKET WAS CANON - apparently it's not?? But well, motorcycle drivers wear leather jackets for protection from the wind/cold so it makes a lot of sense that he'd have that sort of gear. Wizarding robes (the way I imagine them, like long dresses) shouldn't be very convenient on a bike. :p Tattoos - I don't really see him having any in canon, definitely not being covered in them. Though that's easier to swallow than him being short, for instance. :p
I am very on board with an aroace/demi/sapiosexual Sirius. It's basically why I see him so easily with James and Lily, because they are people who we know he cares about very much so he'd get into a relationship with them much more easily than with some random person. Other than that, I can very much see him as the person who just doesn't bother with the whole romance thing.
So that's pretty much the extent of my Sirius shipping preferences. I can see very interesting scenarios with other people (Snape? Bellatrix? Even Remus) but they are not the sort of thing I'd care to read.

If KagePro Characters were in KHR...
Marry is definitely a Sky. Her love for and her attachment to her friends is well reciprocated. They died protecting her, like how Elements would for their Sky. And while she didn't exactly die for them, she did turn back time for them. Considering how Combining Eyes attracts the other snakes back to her, it fits the bill for Sky Attraction (canon, fanon, schmanon). "Combining" is also mentioned as an ability of Sky Flame's Harmony attribute. As for her bloodline ability to petrify... well, just go search "petrify" on the KHR wiki.
Kano is a Mist primary, with a Storm secondary. He's almost always putting up a front, hiding his true self behind illusions. He's extremely proficient at pretending to be someone else, to the point where he can even trick himself into thinking he's actually the person he's pretending to be. Physical pain is the only thing that can ground him and dispel his illusions. But what's even worse, is that it's all because he wants to protect them and their happiness so much he hardly ever thinks of his own happiness anymore. Deceiving is an aspect of the Mist. He also has a habit of traumatizing Shintarou by pretending to be Ayano, one of his most traumatic disguises, so...
Momo is a Lightning. She wished for attention, yes, but she also worked for it. If there's anything Momo really wants, it's to be acknowledged by everyone fair and square. She's very eccentric, and her actions are often driven by her whims. And while she does get sad and depressed sometimes, she never stays that way, always looking at the bright side.
Ene is a Cloud and a Mist. Her "territory" would probably be games. Explains so much why she got annoyed when Shintarou beats her at her own game without even trying, but used the bet to her advantage. She's very proud of her gaming skills, and doesn't like it when people don't take her challenges seriously. That's Cloud behavior right there. Also, Haruka appreciated her love for games, that's why she let him into her heart. And her wish, if you remember, is "to be free of human needs". As for the Mist part of her, well, she never got tired of finding new ways to mess with her "Master," did she? (She still finds ways, and Shintarou suffers for it.)
Kido is a Mist. She doesn't deceive so much as she conceals. Where Kano shows something else, Kido is all "nothing to see here" with her power. Still, she tricks the senses of others. And she's also a good leader, coming up with creative ways to support themselves. She never does the work all by herself, though. By hook or by crook, she gets Kano and Seto to help out.
Seto is a well-balanced Rain and Sun. Contradiction, sure, but his personality is very "sunny" and "rainy". He's very active, probably the most expressively happy person in the series besides Ene, who's more playful, and Kano, who fakes it 'til he makes it. He's also the most loyal person there is! Even after seeing bits of the past loops from Marry's mind, he still held out his hand for her.
Shintarou is a Rain primary, with a very minor Sun secondary. He's laid-back most of the time, especially before Ayano died. He's mentally active, understanding more than he lets on thanks to his ability. He'd be a Lightning if he had more ambition. After Ayano died, and after Takane and Haruka went missing, he became very depressed. My headcanon, though, is that the loops where Shintarou gets suicidal isn't many because the Retaining Eyes gives him enough deja vu to think "I couldn't stop it this time again" instead of asking the repetitive "Why?"
Hibiya is a Lightning. He keeps chasing after Hiyori's approval. He's persistent, and never gives up. Seeing Hiyori's interest in Konoha only fans the flames of his determination. He's very blunt, too. And in Kagerou Days, he does everything he can to save Hiyori. Also, Hibiya never thought of sacrificing himself for Hiyori's survival, and that's why he's not a Storm..
Konoha is a Cloud and Rain. His "territory" is his friends. Other than that, he doesn't wish for much else. He's laid-back and passive but also very watchful. He's like a baby, though, so he hasn't matured that much compared to the rest of the Dan.
Haruka is a Lightning and Sun. He's very active, mentally and physically (as much as he can be, anyways). His mind is always filled with things he wants to do. He's the one who drags Takane along to make his wishlist come true. His will is strong enough that even though his new body rejected his spirit, his snake still carried out his wish, though that might also be attributed to the snakes' wish-granting nature
Ayano is both Storm and Sky, in equal amounts. She's very warm and accepting towards her new family. She made them feel wanted and loved. Ayaka may have given Kano, Kido and Seto a house, but Ayano was the one to make it a home. She loved her family to the point of sacrificing herself to the Daze just to stop Saeru's plan from coming to fruition.
If Ayano's Flames combined, it would probably be called the Sunset Flames, a Flame born of passion. It'd counter the Night Flame and soothe the Wrath Flame. "Like the Sunset, it's a flame that burns beautifully, even beyond death. It's a Flame that will never die, even when the body dies, as long as the wielder's resolve burns ever true." (Poetic, innit? Har har. New lore from a ramble.)
Hiyori is a Sun. She's active and stubborn, and she knows what she wants. She's also very intense, as shown in her relationship with Hibiya.
Saeru is Mist and Cloud. His "territory" is his existence. He doesn't tolerate any threats toward his existence, but he plays the long game in eliminating them. He's indignant when Azami "forgot" him, as in, she forgot the wish that "birthed" him. The long game was using her descendant to make a new medusa and then breaking them to the point of returning everything to the beginning. Trapping Azami in the Daze was so she couldn't interfere. He's very creative when he makes the Dan suffer.
I can totally see a crossover-slash-fusion story blooming from the idea of this! So many compatible elements!
For reference, here's @insanescriptist's post on Dying Will Flames and their corresponding personality traits.

(veggiehater-apologist anon) Okay true I mean the fact that steve had to hide it is weird to me but I kinda went *cringe let's move on.*I mainly see strange fanon in Tumblr headcanons rather than fics. I don't browse ao3 much. Usually read the same tried and true authors. Though, I don't remember if you've talked about this but even a lot of fics I really really like do the "Steve's parents essentially abandoned him" thing that I... Would like to see more alternatives to. I think once you see something enough in fanon you're gonna wanna like, make sense of and play with it in your own fics so that's why I'm mostly fine with seeing something a lot of repeated tropes as long as writers make it work rather than treat that it as a given.
Also Eddie screaming BORED and tossing a boardgame made me laugh in horror sjsbshsb I hate it so much
That's totally fair of you! You are stronger than me lmaoooo. I do think strange fanon is much more prevalent in tumblr hc and tumblr fics, though some of it does permeate into the ao3 verse too. I actually had to stop reading as much ST fic as I used to because I was getting too frustrated by reading the same thing over and over and not able to find anything that wasn't a romance fjdigjidgs.
Yeah I personally do think Steve's parents were not good parents but there are sooo many ways you could work with it that no one ever does. Like idk did he used to have grandparents that watched him as a kid and now they're gone and the parents never bothered to start caring? Does Steve's dad actually ride his ass super hard (which would make sense with some of the stuff he says about him) but only from a distance? Is his dad gone all the time but his mother actually is normally there and only just started going out of town with him because he got caught cheating? Or maybe they're actually home all the time and that's why after s1 we never see Steve's house again because he is avoiding being at home. I even have an au where they are actually good parents but they do the spn hunter thing and so Steve stays home and holds down the fort a lot because they don't wanna take him on hunts. So many possibilities!
I do agree, even the tropes I agree with can get tiring at times when you see it too many times. Like yeah it's tried and true but sometimes you just gotta shake things up a little bit like a snowglobe, see what happens if you change one little thing. I think the "treating it as a given" is also one of the BIGGEST things. Like nah you gotta work for it, stop assuming everyone has the same fandom opinions as you. It's more fun to make things make sense imo. But I'm also a weirdo who lovveessss to come up with weird aus that shouldn't work just because I like trying to fit all the pieces together dfigjdfig
Also happy that made you laugh the image made me laugh too even if it was also horrifying. I felt like fog had been cleared off a window or something, it was bad.

let’s talk about anxiety, excitement and negativity about andor:
(or cait has a slow day at the salon so now we get this discourse. read if you want, and if you think I’m being negative at the end of this essay I’m genuinely curious as to why, and I’d like to hear from you).
ANDOR SPOILERS behind the cut:
A good thing about Rogue One is that the fandom has very diverse, robust opinions on the characters. Undoubtedly some of those opinions I disagree with, but I like that we all have varying interpretations of canon. Fanfiction writers - even the ones like me who barely do any writing lmfao #rip - have done a lot to build fanon into what it is. And we’ve had YEARS to do it. So we’ve naturally got Pretty Strong Feelings about these characters and what they’ve been through before the film (and after for those of us in utter denial).
Cassian Andor is a character that I immediately liked - as was Jyn Erso, for very similar and different reasons all at once. He is a character that has a lot of the traits I most admire in people and that I value in myself - strong sense of right and wrong, good judgment, dedication, loyalty. And I liked that Rogue One allowed these characters to be unlikable at times, that they always stayed true to what a real person in their shoes might do, not what a character in a story might do. We get to explore what makes Cassian into the character we see in the film, how he grows into that man.
His growth is pretty dynamic just in the film alone, so the idea that we might see where he comes from - what shapes him into the Cassian we see in the film - has always appealed to me. When the Cassian show was announced I knew that it was going to change things for what we see as canon, that it was going to flesh things out about his character in ways I might not agree with. I was and am SO EXCITED to see one of my favorite characters on screen again.
When someone who is an authority on what canon is says something that doesn’t really fit our individual understandings of canon, that can feel weird. It’s different than when a fellow fan thinks differently on canon because lol none of us have any actual sway over canon - just our own interpretations of canon. I mean don’t get me wrong some of y’all annoy me with your hot takes too but it’s far more aggravating when it’s like one of those idiots on the Lucafilm Story Whatever Board spewing some shit. Even George Lucas sometimes annoys me with his literal own interpretation of his own content ... I mean that’s nothing new in this fandom.
For example, this is a silly one. Whenever Diego says (rightfully bc he is 10000% correct) that Cassian is dead, my dumbass is like WHERES THE BODY BITCH. I get kind of, idk, weird about it? Because in my headcanon, these characters are not dead. That is called a ~personal problem and I’m only sort of joking. I’m pro-the ending because it works so well, but I am also one of the weirdos who wouldn’t actually be mad if they retconned it. They shouldn’t, I know that it actually would take away from how hard the ending hits, but I wouldn’t be mad. I assume most of you disagree with that - and you’re right to disagree because I’m objectively wrong but I also just ~~~FEEL THAT WAY.
This is an example of my interpretation being non-canonical. But I’ve already seen the film so I can make that conclusion if I want to - it’s absurd and completely defenseless (NO BODY NO CRIME js) but it is what it is.
So it stands to reason that if we have feelings about how things would have gone had Cassian lived, we also all have feelings about how things went before Rogue One. And considering there is only a little bit of information canonically, our feelings are going to be WILDLY varied. I think we all know that.
I fully expect the show to deviate from some things in my headcanon - like for instance, I don’t expect Cassian to be a math/piloting genius just because I interpret the escaping Jedha scene as Cassian being exceptionally gifted at calculating jumps. That’s my interpretation and I recognize that it’s just that. An interpretation. I do expect him to be very good at piloting because he is one in canon. If the trailer showed 20-something Cassian sucking at piloting I’d be side-eyeing the shit out of it. I don’t expect Cassian to be someone who picks up strays everywhere he goes, but I do expect him to “have the face of a friend” no matter how superficially.
And in the same vein, and much more seriously, I expect that someone who argues with a literal former child soldier about how she only joined up when the fight impacted her personal life to have been in some sort of resistance in his teens at LEAST. I’m not saying the spoilers are conclusive in any way about any of this, but some of the quotes give me pause. I don’t think that’s negative, I don’t think that’s anything other than having a feeling about a thing that seems pretty much established fact: that Cassian Andor was a Separatist himself is kind of murky (he was a child lmfao) but that he was in the fight from an early age? Literally canon I’m sorry.
But also, spoilers don’t come with context and trailers misrepresent things all the time. That’s why I was waiting to firmly decide if I thought Adria was playing a love interest. Trailers lie: that scene could still be Bix showing Cassian something without like sexual tension lmfao, but it very likely is intended to be romantic. Okay, cool. I still don’t know how I’ll feel about their relationship because I haven’t seen the show yet. I have Concerns based on my interpretation of Tony Gilroy’s quote about their relationship being on again off again and Cassian burning bridges with Bix and everyone lmfao, but for all I know contextually it could work really well to me! But without that context, that sounds like a toxic relationship and I’d rather Cassian not have a toxic relationship, especially if my speculation about Bix not making it to the second season is correct. God, I’m so tired of women (in particular woc) dying for men’s stories to progress. I was worried about that when I thought Adria was playing his sister, and I’m worried about that now. I’m not being negative, I’m being realistic - this is a common trope for a reason.
I know that a lot of rebelcaptain shippers are uncomfortable with Cassian being in a relationship with someone else and I don’t agree in this context. It seems kind of odd to me to feel that way, but also I won’t lie that I wouldn’t like it if Cassian is in a committed relationship with another person when Rogue One begins. To me that would chip away at Cassian’s motivations in the film - he’s lost everything, so he throws everything into his service with the Alliance - and if we consider the novelization canon that would be... hard to square with his characterization in the book. But not impossible.
A lot of these spoilers are hard for me to square with my interpretation of what canon says. And my interpretation is pretty literal for the most part - except for the NO BODY NO CRIME ending lmfao - so that does worry me. It worries me that Gilroy said that what we read in Wookiepedia is not the truth about Cassian, but also we haven’t seen the show so for all we know he means that that’s not all there is to know about Cassian, or that the like idk supplemental materials (like the visual dictionary) are not going to remain canon. Which... alright, well then tell a better story.
I don't think it's out of bounds to be skeptical about things in interviews, there's a few choices that I personally not only wouldn't make but that don't seem to track with what literal canon says in the film, but also we have to remember that we haven't seen the context these things they're talking about are in, we haven't seen the show yet. So maybe they do make sense! I am reserving my judgment until I have watched the episodes twice because I know myself well - I have an initial reaction and then a more reasoned reaction after the adrenaline passes. Sometimes it’s the same (my feelings on Rogue One stayed VERY MUCH THE SAME LOL). Often I become a little more critical.
But I can't deny that it's disappointing to hear some spoilers that confuse me and make me nervous. I don't want to be nervous about fundamental things like Cassian's literal childhood not seeming to match what he says in the show - and anyone who says "well him being in the fight since he was a kid is your interpretation" lmfao no it is not. How he was in the fight is absolutely up to interpretation, and I hope that they stick the landing there. I definitely have my reservations from spoilers, but again there’s no context so it’s like... I can’t have an informed opinion.
I feel fairly confident that the show will be well-written and thoughtful, and definitely will have something to say. I think it's gonna be fantastic, but I'm also like, not all that trusting of Lucasfilm. For good reason - I was never a massive Obi Wan stan and even I can see that there were major issues with the show, even if I enjoyed a lot of it. And Boba Fett... yikes. But also the context is different: Diego is EXECUTIVE PRODUCER and has a lot of feelings on his character, and I’m speculating here but I think he has a lot to do with some details - Cassian’s dad is named Jeron in honor of Diego’s son Jeronimo, for example. I think the idea that Cassian is a refugee comes directly from Diego, and the fact that his (adopted) mother is a white woman almost certainly does too. I know Ewan McGregor was Exec Producer for his show but I’ve never gotten the idea that he’s as much of a fan as Diego is. It’s different.
Temeura Morrison also had a lot to do with fleshing out Boba and it still flopped imo but that show’s context is also different - it’s clearly supplemental to the Mandalorian, and also the showrunner wasn’t, idk, literally involved in creating Boba Fett at all. We’ll never know how much Tony Gilroy actually is responsible for - but he was a RO writer even before the reshoots. I wish Gary Whitta and especially Chris Weitz were involved, but who knows. Sometimes writers aren’t credited - Gilroy wasn’t going to be before the reshoots.
They've had years and years to develop the story and it's just got a different feel to the rest of the shows tbh - the fact that they’re not forcing Gilroy to use the Volume says a lot about how much effort they’re putting into the show and how much creative control Disney is relinquishing (maybe). I'm not saying that's a stopgap for bullshit choices, but it tells me they’re being purposeful. That this is a passion project.
But I guess the biggest question is this: what is negativity to you? Is negativity shitposting and making jokes about spoilers? If so, well then I guess I’m negative, in spite of literally all of my years of excitement about and defense of the show. I mean we all have different interpretations of negativity, so if you feel like I’m being negative, well okay then you don’t have to follow me. I’m a grown up, I can take it. I can see how some people might feel like I am being negative because I am reacting to spoilers and not loving what I’m hearing about some things. Personally for me negativity is a lot of things, but critique is not one of them. It is hard to critique something without having seen it though. Practically impossible tbh.
And it's been tiring for all of us Cassian fans to put up with idiots who have been relentless saying no one wanted this show (even though that is not true and also no one ‘wanted’ Rogue One but John Knoll originally, and it’s one of the most beloved SW films ever). So I can understand why some might feel like the anxiety some of us feel about the show’s version of Cassian would feel exhausting to deal with. I don't want to turn off people who are, like me, super excited for the show just because I have concerns. But I’m also not going to accept that having concerns, that being anxious, is being negative on its face. Because I’ve heard that all my life - being mentally ill is not usually a positive experience folks. I know when I’m being negative and when I’m being realistic.
For those of us who are anxious about the show, we should also touch some fuckin grass. It IS easy to get sucked into negativity when anxiety kicks in and ultimately we do not know much about the content of the show. We should try to be better about keeping perspective, not for our followers lmfao but for ourselves. Venting is one thing, but I do think it’s better to use venting to be constructive - find the Now What? of a thing that we’re reacting to. In other words, our immediate reactions will be what they will be, but what do we do when we pause and take the time to think them through?
An example: I think I was being negative in my initial reaction to Cassian’s birth name not being Cassian Andor. I almost immediate understood what they were going for - my last name is not what my ancestors’ last name was back in the old country lmfao. This is a common immigrant experience that transcends origin (thanks structural white supremacy and xenophobia <333) and is a very poignant addition to his story. But I was like EHHH FUCK THAT FUCK CHANGE for a good few minutes or so. Mainly because I’ve always called his Cass, and Kassa is close but honestly read more Greek to me ??? idk lmfao I just had to sit down and think for a moment.
Another example was when I said Gilroy wasn’t involved in writing Rogue One. Well it turns out that I was flat out wrong - he just wasn’t credited with writing he did for the script until the reshoots. So I was being unfair and reactive - it is very likely that he is responsible for why the movie is so good. I wasn’t joking about some dumbass spoilers, I was actually annoyed about the overarching picture these spoilers present of Cassian’s teen years - but of course how can I know what they mean without context?
Realistically I don’t trust Lucasfilm to stick the landing in every case. But I also know that they have before - and specifically THIS TEAM has stuck the landing before - so it’s not like I’m thinking it’s going to suck. I think it’s going to be great. I am worried about how these spoilers fit into what we are going to see but my expectations are still very high. And if they weren’t, well then idk maybe that would be a good thing! It’s easier to enjoy something if you don’t go in with super high expectations.
I think we as fans do need to keep in mind that the show is not going to match our personal interpretations of canon and our feelings on that are going to be what they are - but I also think that it is GREAT they are telling this story at all, and we should wait til we see the finished product to decide if we're actually happy with it or not.
And if we’re not happy with the finished product, well... then we can light them up for it lmfao.

FAQs
DEFINITIONS & CLARIFICATIONS
What is fanon? “Fanon” is a portmanteau of “fan canon.” It’s the phenomena of a headcanon becoming so popular and widespread that it feels ubiquitous across a fandom, or even gets mistaken for canon! People have mixed feelings about fanon, but here at FwFF we believe there’s something wonderful about this kind of informal community storytelling and worldbuilding.
When does this event happen? Fun with Fanon Fest is a 2-day weekend-long quarterly event. Day 1, a Saturday, will focus on your favorite fanons and creations around those wonderful ideas. Day 2, a Sunday, will focus on inverting common fandom tropes and taking a different angle on popular ideas. This event runs four times a year, about once every three months. The next event will run March 25-26.
Is this for fandoms other than Tolkien’s Legendarium? This event focuses on the Tolkien fandom, as that is the mod/creator’s main fandom, but if you’d like to run your own Fun with Fanon Fest for another fandom, feel free to do so as long as you credit us for the idea! And let us know, so we can link you as a sister event!
I hate the fanon that ____! That’s okay! Fanon isn’t for everyone, and even fanon lovers have things they hate have gotten so popular. This event isn’t just about making more content around fanon ideas, it’s also for challenging those ideas. That’s what Day 2 is all about: Fanon Inversion!
However, we do ask you to be respectful of other people’s headcanons, no matter how popular they are. Don’t submit anything that is just trashing on fanon; instead, create something that fits your preferred version of events!
In summary: This is not a place to complain about fanon you don’t like. It is a place to offer your own take on fanon you disagree with! Write your own version, make your own story—don’t hate, create!
What’s Fanon Inversion? Day 2’s theme is Fanon Inversion, which means we encourage you to invert a commonly accepted fanon idea. You can do this with fanon you dislike, and offer an alternative instead; or you can do it for fanon you do like, to explore a different possibility! For example, you can take the fanon concept of “Maglor is Lindir” and instead write about how Maglor isn’t Lindir, and what the meeting of those two musicians would be like, since they’re separate people.
Are there kinds of fanon that are not acceptable for this event? Yes. To promote a peaceful and respectful environment, we will not be focusing on fanons that judge the morality of a character or the canonicity of a ship.
For example, some unacceptable fanons would be:
“evil Maeglin”
“Maedhros x Fingon”
Instead, we ask that you reframe those concepts in an in-universe context. Acceptable alternatives could be:
“Maeglin felt outcast in Gondolin”
“Everyone thinks Maedhros and Fingon are dating”
This way, it’s not about Maeglin being good or evil, but rather how he feels he is perceived in-universe. It’s an interrogation of his experiences, not a judgement on his character, but it still leaves the same sort of questions open for exploration. In the same vein, we’re not arguing if Russingon is canon or not, but rather how characters feel and perceive their relationship in-universe.
Both of these alternatives give plenty of room for interpretation and nuance. Did Maeglin feel outcast; was he viewed as Different; was he popular; was he he shy? Were Maedhros and Fingon actually in a relationship; how did they feel about people believing this, true or not; were they trying to hide a secret relationship; were they actually very obvious about their affections and still not noticed? These are all questions that don’t necessarily make a judgement call on characters or ships.
Sexuality and gender headcanons are also ineligible for this event. These are often deeply personal headcanons, and it’s no one’s place to declare them invalid. So no “gay Boromir” or “trans Bilbo” as fanon topics.
The only exception to this rule is regarding dwarf gender, which is in a bit of canon grey area. So feel free to explore fanons like “Female Narvi” or “some dwarves in Thorin’s company were women.” Basically, if it’s judging the validity of a queer identity, it’s not allowed.
If you have questions about whether your fanon concept is eligible, don’t hesitate to ask! I promise I don’t bite :)
Is ___ fanon? Fanon is fundamentally a subset of headcanon, so if it’s a canon detail, it doesn’t count as fanon, even if you have a counter-canonical headcanon.
However, if canon is confusing or unsettled (as it often is in this fandom!) but there is a prevailing fandom interpretation, your concept does count, even if there is a version of canon that supports it.
Also not allowed are straight up Alternate Universes.
So, the following are not fanon:
“Boromir lives” (AU)
“Eöl didn’t actually kill Aredhel” (counter-canonical)
“Bilbo stole the Arkenstone” (canon)
But the following would qualify for this event, even if they’re not strictly “just” fanon, because they’re not really canon either:
“Gil-galad son of Finrod”
“Míriel survived until Fëanor’s adulthood”
Both of these concepts are canon to at least one draft, but are not popularly accepted as canon in the fandom.
However, we also have more typical fanons that are concepts without canon support one way or another, or that build off canon but aren’t necessarily confirmed.
“Lightly Toasted Amrod”
“Celebrimbor and Narvi were best friends”
These would qualify as fanon.
If you’re still not sure if your idea counts as fanon, it’s up to your judgement! But if you’d like, we can give you our opinion :)
~~~
SUBMISSIONS & ORGANIZATION
What kind of submissions are accepted? Any format of submission is welcome! You can write fic, create art or graphics, make headcanon posts*, share playlists, make crafts, or whatever else you can dream of!
*Headcanon posts are absolutely welcome, but we do ask that you make sure your submission has substance beyond simply stating your headcanon. For example: “Celegorm is a redhead” is not substantial, but “Redheaded Celegorm who blends in with the Ambarussar so much people think he’s their triplet” absolutely is! You don’t have to write an essay, or even more than a sentence, but please give at least a little elaboration.
How do I submit my creation? You can submit your work directly to this blog or make an original post on your own blog with #funwithfanon in the first 20 tags (minus the hashtag). You can also @mention this blog or send the mod a DM with a link to your submission.
In your submission, please give a BRIEF (>1 sentence) summary of the fanon you’re having fun with! This will help us organize the blog :)
Examples:
“Maglor and Lindir are the same person” → “Maglor = Lindir”
“Celebrimbor’s father-name is also Curufinwë” → “Curufinwë III Tyelperinquar”
“Maeglin felt like an outcast in Gondolin” → “Outcast Maeglin”
If you really can’t sum it up in a few words, that’s okay, but let’s try to keep the character count down :)
Can I focus my fanwork on OCs? Absolutely! We are OC-friendly?
Do I have to participate every day? Nope! You can participate as many times as you want to, whether that means submitting one creation or 20 or just consuming other people’s content. We are happy to have you here no matter how involved you want to be!
What if I don’t like the prompts? Then don’t use them! The prompts are there to inspire you, not to restrict your creativity. We accept all kinds of content, related to the prompts or not.
Can I contribute an in-progress work? Yes! You can contribute whatever kind of fanwork you want, even if it’s not finished. We want to inspire you to celebrate fanon, and if that means you continue on with it after the event is over, that’s great! Additionally, if your work is already in-progress and you want to update it or promo it during the week, that is also encouraged, so other people can find and consume your content!
What if I don’t finish my fanwork in time for the event? Feel free to post what you have and tag us anyway - we accept in-progress works! Alternatively, tag the blog whenever you are finished and ready to post it - we will be happy to promote it even outside the event. Or, just wait a few months for the next event!
Why haven’t you reblogged my post? Posts are queued as the mod encounters them! Your post should be reblogged within 24 hours or so. If you see a like on your post from the mod @arofili, your post is in the blog’s queue! If it’s been 24 hours and you don’t see a like and your post hasn’t been reblogged, we may have missed it - feel free to send it to us or ask us if we’ve seen it! We want to boost your content, but tumblr’s tagging and @ing mechanisms can be faulty.
What do the numbers in the tags mean? This is our tagging system to keep track of which event your submission is part of. It follows the pattern of [year].[quarter]. So a post tagged 23.1 was submitted for the first event of 2023!
Is there an AO3 collection for the event? Yes! You can find it here.
Are there any other rules? Only a few!
Do not repost content by other creators without their explicit permission.
Respect other people’s headcanons and interpretations, even if you don’t share them.
Content and creators espousing bigotry in any form are not allowed to participate. Please check our sister event Tolkien Gen Week’s Code of Conduct page for a specific list on this topic.
I have another question... Contact us via an ask, or reach out to the creator @arofili on their own blog :)
I think maybe I'm the odd fan out, because I really enjoy most versions of characters, even if that's not the one that lives in my head. like occasionally I'll get something that I dislike that time and I have to close out of, but in general:
I love extremely canon compliant versions, especially ones that join contradictory elements, because you can see all the places someone spent so much time researching and analyzing the canon and how much joy they take in fitting all the pieces together
I love versions drawn from one really specific canon, especially a really different canon than most, because you can see how meaningful that canon is to them, how much they liked it and how much art can inspire art
I love versions that are gritty grimdark reimaginings, taking something that was wholesome or allegorical or comedic or stylized and filling in all the implications, all the things that could be true within the context once they let their imaginations run wild and take the time to dream
I love versions that are sweet and fluffy, even cheesy, scraping away all the upsetting stuff and just keeping everyone's very favorite things, a collection of all the best parts like showing off the sparkly rocks they found at the beach, only the things that make them smile and laugh that give to prompt laughter and smiles
I love versions that are maximalist realism, finding implications and figuring out what would happen if they were carried to the logical conclusion, fleshing out details, teasing nuance from the text, figuring how everything would mesh with the real world and what meaning there is to derive from that
I love cartoony versions that are flanderized, something people loved and don't want to stop talking about
I love secondhand versions, a character shaped out of the enjoyment they get from other people's passion
I love crossover versions, a way the character was designed to fit within a wholly different text and how painstakingly they were changed to mesh with the overall vision
I love borderline self-inserts, characters who are projected on as much as creators want or need, characters who have some major change made just so someone can take the time to create something not only important to them, but important to so many of the people they share the character with
I love silly versions that are intentionally opposite, or versions that are meant to seem bizarre compared to the original. I love AUs where a version of the character is radically changed and I love people's personal headcanon versions of them - something where there's a kernel of recognizability and that's all that's needed for some specific task people are having fun with
I love versions where someone threw out all the canon they didn't like and built up a new version from the recycled parts, or just removed one part and made the whole machine move more smoothly, carefully modifying the character until it works with the operating system they like best, looking just the way they want everything to so they feel right at home
I love the versions that delve deep into some controversial issue and the versions that talk their way around it, the ones that leave something else in its place. I love the versions that revert back to early themes and find ways to bring them out again, and I love versions that take later ideas and apply them to earlier parts. I love people mixing and matching to meet their own interests.
I love versions that change a character in a way you wouldn't see in canon, or a way you did see in canon but without the parts that got them there, or in a way that canon just didn't go far enough, or went a little too far. I love people going on the journey of creation and the character developing over the course of it as well.
I love the canon version and the fanon version and the headcanon and the crossover and the fusion and the divergent timeline and the AU and the fixit and the OP power fantasy and the sexy version and the friendly version and funny little guy version and the change something to be what you want to talk about one too
I especially love the character you build from scratch because they were there but only the tiniest little bit, or not there at all even though you expected them to be, or having them would've added something, or even just because you want them there
I love fandom
im kind of curious why you use the phrase "absolute stagnation" to describe jc's character arc - although it's true he never goes from solidly Heroic to Villainous (or vice versa) or has some dramatic blackening, there are i think solid changes over the course of the story (following the sunshot campaign, his sister's death, etc). do you just mean that he never has a single big shift, or have i misread that?
oh boy, and that’s my last ask for the day
The thing about a character arc is that the character has to undergo significant changes in response to these events, otherwise it’s just... a bunch of events happening, and the character... growing older. If you look at Shen Jiu as someone who blackened in response to the events around him, and you look at Mu Qing as someone who grew and changed for the better in response to the events around him (plus a thousand years, give or take), then the fact that Jiang Cheng does not change one significant iota is pretty hard to miss in the text.
Character arc isn’t Jiang Cheng becoming a sect leader after his sect is slaughtered. Character arc would be Jiang Cheng’s character (as in the mental and moral qualities distinctive to an individual) undergoing significant change as a result of his sect being slaughtered, and as a result of him becoming a sect leader. The basic premise is “The character begins as one sort of person and gradually transforms into a different sort of person.” Jiang Cheng who blamed Wei WuXian for Jiang FengMian’s “inattention,” then for the death of his parents, then for the death of his sister, is exactly the same Jiang Cheng who would torture potential practitioners of demonic cultivation because they “might” be Wei WuXian. “Arc” is often used to describe a sweeping change; it implies that he became something he wasn’t previously (not him getting older and having more power to do things he couldn’t do as a disciple, or had no cause to do back then) and literally none of that... happens in text.
The reason I don’t do JC meta any more is bc CQL JC has little to nothing to do with MDZS JC. Like a lot of other characters in CQL, JC is pretty inconsistent, and definitely not faithful to his canonic counterpart. His canonical counterpart has a place, and a meaning, in MDZS as a xianxia deconstruction novel.
This Jiang Cheng:
Tumblr media
blames Wei WuXian for everything he’d blamed him for before Wei WuXian's death. He is exactly the same person he was then, with an addition of a Sect Leader seat, more rumors about him, more power, and probably some nicer robes idk. Like, substantive change leading from one personality trait to a diametrically opposite trait? Not a thing that happens with JC at literally any point.
From a literary (and psychological) perspective I’ve always found JC fascinating, because I think he is meant to be frustrating. His lack of development is intentional, and reads like nails on chalkboard. We want our characters to grow, to change, to learn to let go of their resentments, to do some introspection, to work on themselves. If we can’t have that, we want them to go in the other direction. We want them to be an easily-definable villain, or to at least fit into the mould of one. A lot of fanon JC is exactly that, one or the other with very little room in between. Humans hate things they can’t define, things they can’t easily identify as either right or wrong; that’s no great mystery.
JC didn’t blacken, and he didn’t become a better person. JC didn’t do anything except build himself a timeless little bunker of his festering resentments, and then decide to just huddle there until the end of time. And although I’m sure the water is nice and warm in that bunker, and that A LOT of real people would react in exactly the same way, when you pick up a xianxia novel to read for enjoyment, that’s not what you wanna see happen. So people tend to add things that are only canon in CQL, or their own headcanons that can hardly be supported by text, in order to alleviate that discomfort. Which is understandable, but not who JC is in MDZS.
If there is character development to be had for JC, it should be happening post-MDZS. The golden core reveal is exactly the type of event that would precipitate a major character change. But there is no hint that mxtx meant to even give us that. And I understand, completely, the frustration in that decision, especially if JC is someone’s favorite character. But a lot of fanon interpretations of him, in my opinion, have little bearing on canon JC, so honestly, I really have no interest in discussing him any further than this.
Soo... how would the Bad Batch react to a S/O that has a very snarky/dry sense of humor? Just always cracking jokes and finding humor in everything? (Love ur content btw <3)
Thank you for your request!!! And THANK YOU IM GLAD U LIKEY!!!!
Ok I have seen this but knew it would take me hours to write so I was waiting for the write moment! (get it? write = right? teehee) talk about a terribly dry sense of humour my goodness.
How Would The Bad Batch React to a Snarky/Witty/Dry Sense of Humour Significant Other (s/o)
Factz: Not even kidding, I feel like the boys would kill for a hella sassy partner in crime.
Hunter
Oh my gosh they are literally best friends!!! They speak in a very similar style to each other.
Hunter expects a little bit of snark from Cross, sarcasm from Echo, and quips from Tech, but when his s/o just dishes his dry humour right back at him the first time they meet, he's like "Why was that so... hot???"
So from then on, most of the dialogue exchanged between the two of them are like super sassy comments and witty replies, until it unintentionally gradually morphs into really heavy flirting. They get so into teasing each other, the whole batch can feel the tension in the air.
Of course both are oblivious of this for the longest time.
But when eventually they do figure it out and get together, the whole batch sigh in relief thinking "finally this intense pining is over"... But it actually just gets worse?
So now during missions, the two of you verbally dance around each other like you're in some comeback war.
In the middle of a serious mission:
Hunter: "I need you here now!"
S/O: "wow wow Hunter. babe. cool your jets. i know we haven't really done it in a while but we're in the middle of a mission and-"
Hunter: "As much as I love how you think mesh'la, I think you're misreading the situation."
His s/o also keeps ruining his *tough guy* persona. During briefs, his s/o keeps making him crack his skillfully honed poker face.
The teasing through dry humour is just a really fun and goofy way to connect to each other and is their common ground of affection.
Tech
We all know Tech is a witty boi, and man do we love him for it!
Tech finds his s/o's attitude quite entertaining.
He does like it when they use their snarkiness to defend him from people that give him a hard time, but he like his s/o's humour best when it's just the two of them having fun.
I feel like Tech would find it 10x funnier if his s/o was also really smart and able to understand his technical language, because they just pass these really witty/funny quips back and forth to each other that are actually hilarious but no one understands. It's like their own hidden language.
Now we've seen Tech smile and m a y b e chuckle a little before?? But so far, we've yet to see Tech actually laugh and I headcanon that Tech snorts when he laughs. (Has anybody seen the live action TMNT?? Kinda like how Donnie laughs in those). So ohmiGOSH it's so WhOlEsOmE when his s/o makes Tech laugh!! He's so CUTE!
The rest of the batch will be out getting supplies while Echo works of the exterior hull of the ship and Tech and his s/o fix up the systems inside.
Tech laying under a panel: "Hm, this wire seems to be adhered to a far less efficient arrangement." Tech's s/o wordlessly shuffles over from their panel to analyse the problem. Their shoulders touch as they lie side by side.
S/o: "Mm, I think you're right, but see here? It looks like it's been manually transfigured. Probably by Echo in one of our many quick fixes. It looks like he's done it so he can easily access and program the flight module."
Tech: "I'm going to rewire it to-"
S/o: "To that one right?" His s/o says, suppressing a smile as they point to clearly the wrong wiring. Tech's eyes narrow and his brow furrows.
Tech: "Of course not! That would compromise the-" He catches a glimpse of his s/o's cheeky grin, "oh you're joking." His s/o bursts out laughing and he can't help the smile that stretches over his face as he shakes his head.
By the end of the repairs, the batch come back to find you both practically rolling on the ground in snorting fits of laughter.
Their humour paired with their competence makes them super attractive to him.
Wrecker
Wrecker finds his s/o's dry humour the funniest thing in the galaxy. He is one of those blessings that will always laugh at your jokes.
Which is a relief cuz I have dry humour and almost no one ever laughs at my jokes rip.
I mean, you guys saw how he reacted in ep 1 when Omega DeStRoYeD those regs in the mess hall. He was so proud and supportive of her.
So yeah he's pretty much his s/o's hype man.
He loves that his s/o's humour means that they quite enjoy playful competition and games. So they're always playing random games together, even going so far as to arm wrestle (S/o: "But we both already know who's going to win... Me. Obviously.")
And sometimes he will let his s/o win, just because he thinks it's so cute when they start flexing their arms and boasting about how strong and amazing they are.
He knows they're joking. He knows they know he let them win. But even though they've never really beaten him, he still thinks they're strong and amazing.
There is always friendly banter between the two but what Wrecker loves the most is how easy his s/o makes things for him.
He's not a natural at romance, and often finds himself making mistakes or he might do something a little awkwardly. But instead of being mad, disappointed, or judgmental, his s/o just smiles or laughs it off and walks him through things.
He feels like he can always be himself around his s/o.
Crosshair
Again, it's canon and fanon that Cross is a bit of a grumpy pants so he obviously finds his s/o's wit irritating at first. Which his s/o finds annoying, so his s/o just does it more just to get under his skin.
Totally enemies to lovers trope. I see it no other way. FiGhT me.
His s/o would make jokes all the time but I see that one day, his s/o makes a dry joke and he gives them crap for it, and they've just had enough and so they absolutely *slam* him with snark, sass, and wit that cannot be rivalled by Crosshair himself. They get right up into his face; tension as thick as s o u p.
And then he just grabs their face and makes out with them.
His s/o's like "ok" and totally rolls with it.
The Bad Batch wonder why they don't fight as much anymore (not that they're complaining).
Now they both use their sass to bully the regs.
They kinda become this unbeatable pair of unrivalled attitude. Unlike Hunter and his s/o who use it to tease each other, while Cross and his s/o do that a little too, they mostly direct their humour and sarcasm outward. Cross's s/o is a little more good natured than him though and will pull him in when he goes a bit too far.
He generally finds his s/o's humour quite funny now (though he'll never admit it), and the fact that he smiles a little more doesn't go unnoticed by his brothers.
Echo
Ok while Hunter is master of the dry humour, Echo is KING of sarcasm.
Having said that, I feel like Echo would actually far more appreciate light humour over sass/snark/wit/etc.
I think after being through the crap he's been through, echo baby just needs a light hearted, positive beam of sunshine in his life and his s/o is it.
He loves that his s/o always has a way of making others laugh and smile, even on really hard missions and in rough times.
I think his s/o having a lighter humour also makes him feel safer. Like there's no chance of miscommunication whereby this s/o accidently hits a sensitive topic. His s/o sticks to surface level humour which makes it easy to digest.
They are also absolutely fantastic at telling funny stories which is a real treat when his s/o will retell stories about some of the missions the Bad Batch has done and they just execute the story perfectly.
Echo is in love with his s/o's laugh and thinks it's so cute when they giggle at their own jokes.
He'll never say it, but his s/o's humour sometimes reminds Echo of Fives and Cutup, which is a bit bittersweet for him.
They say that "a joyful heart is good medicine" and for Echo that couldn't be more true. His s/o's joyful heart and nature revive and heal him. He is so much happier because of them and will tell them so in between little kisses as his s/o giggles playfully at his gentle yet eager ministrations.
