#specifically about pennywise the clown.

See I am thinking a lot about how evil clowns are used in stories, and since clowns are usually around children, a lot of them utilize adult fears of your children being in danger, especially when you don't know they're in danger or are unable to help them despite knowing. I think an under-utilized thing in evil clown characters would be the types of clowns that go to hospitals or old folks homes. This is another situation where you are trusting a potentially vulnerable individual with this character, which can easily be turned into a fear.

my fav theory that i realized in like 6th grade omg!!
i think people don’t realize that the horror in IT lies not in the clown but in the trauma these kids face? more specifically with henry bowers but also the home life trauma like eddie and bev? the clown becomes their worst fear and as real as it is i still view the clown as a metaphor for the pain and suffering and how it haunts them. pennywise has to exist because he forces the children to face their fears.
in the end of IT chapter 2 everyone has overcome the things that haunt them the most. richie’s in acceptance of his sexuality, ben isn’t alone, beverly escaped her father, bill knows it’s not his fault, mike can get away from the town. everyone except eddie and stan.
the fact that eddie and stan are dead is so vitally important to the plot. you either have to die or face and overcome your fears and despite eddie’s bravery he could never get away from myra and sonia. stan couldn’t accept IT.
pennywise exists in both a literal and metaphorical sense but i think when u think about it more it makes more sense. they only had to call pennywise dumb and stupid to kill him off.
they scared pennywise and made him face what truly scared him, and it killed him.
the horror is in the world around them, not in themselves. the things that scare them the most are targeted in a supernatural sense because IT is a psychological horror, pennywise doesn’t go after the kids just to eat them. he feeds off of their FEAR. he targets the scary things in their lives which makes us learn more about the characters in a skillful way (i know psychological horror isn’t in the actual genre and stuff but i firmly believe IT is more about his effects on the children rather than defeating him)
IT is a film of friendship and belonging and it’s also a horror film. in my opinion, IT will never truly have a perfect adaption because no adaptation can be long enough to show what every character goes through. the original script for IT(1990) was over 10 hours. they couldn’t fit the production costs so it was cut.
i think that in conclusion IT is psychological but also supernatural and that can coexist when you view the supernatural aspects of the movie as a metaphor for something deeper within the characters

This isn't my usual content but I recently (four days ago) decided to read the actual book for IT so here's a couple of headcanons (specifically centred around 1990 IT, but I'll specify which years just in case):
-1990 Eddie likely had severe anxiety around showers and baths after the time he saw Pennywise in the gym locker room showers. He probably always had a fear of the clown stretching open the drain again and reaching to grab him and drag him into the sewers. Eddie is afraid of disease and germs, though, conditioned to it, so he still took showers and baths- but he probably scrubbed hard enough to make his skin red and raw and he did it fast before rushing out, always racing against an invisible clock that when the timer was up Pennywise would grab him. This fear probably carried over to adulthood, even when he forgot about Derry, and he likely got better with it but probably still was afraid for some unknown reason- he probably took ten minute showers, fifteen at most.
-1990 Reddie headcanon: when they were kids, Richie probably had a small crush on Eddie, but he likely had more feelings for Stanley (1990 Stozier truther here but also universal Reddie enjoyer). When they were adults, though, Richie probably grew out of his feelings for Stanley and I like to think he had more feelings for Eddie that resurfaced the moment he saw him. Eddie probably liked Richie a lot when they were adults, but probably wasn't very big on him when they were kids.
-1990 Stenbrough headcanon: for years after Derry, Bill probably would say random bird species when he was anxious. He wouldn't remember who this was from or realize it was from one of his best friends until he got back to Derry, and that friend was dead. Bill likely held on hope that Stan would come, and probably felt his heart bleed a bit when he realized Stan had killed himself. He never got to fess up to the little crush he used to have.
-2019 Reddie headcanon: based on the fact that Eddie yelled "I knew it! I fucking knew it!" when they were leaving the restaurant after Richie admitted to not writing his own material, I like to think that Eddie probably watched this comedian he recognized but didn't know from where on TV and swore up and down the material was scripted from someone other than him. He didn't recognize the Tozier standup guy until he got the phone call from Mike and realized it was Richie "Trashmouth" Tozier from when he was a kid. Eddie probably kept tabs and watched Richie for years without ever realizing that used to be his best friend.
-2017 Bill Denbrough headcanon: I like to think that Bill particularly stuttered on s-words. Which means he probably stuttered like hell whenever he'd have to say Stan/Stanley sometimes. Imagine how he'd have to use nicknames instead, silly or not, and how much more important it'd be when he said just Stanley, even if it was hard.
-All Media Bill Denbrough: there's no way he could've looked at paper boats without feeling like crying. Even as an adult he probably couldn't explain it. He'd just cry.
I probably have more but I think this is a big enough post for tonight. Have these I found on Pinterest!

Abso-fuckin-lutely it is them. I can imagine little 2017 Eddie running after Finn Wolfhard Richie with inhaler in hand and trying to keep up while Richie laughs his ass off and promptly smacks his face into an open locker and eats shit

In all fairness though I love adult 1990 Eddie. He looks like the embodiment of if kindness were a human being and he just makes me so happy I would hug this man and love him forever I want to keep him in my pocket

Losers Club Favorite Movies
This isn't about specific movies, but about movie styles
Bill: He likes psychological horror most. He can't take movies where kids get hurt tho (for trauma reasons),but besides those he completely loves it. Horror in general too, although he'll pass if it's way too gorey.
Mike: He likes the historical kind best. Mainly the ones ambiented in 1500-1900, and the war ones in general. He's actually a history nerd (and we love him for it).
Ben: His favorite movies are either romance movies or the ones based in true stories. Romance movies are more of a guilty pleasure, he won't tell anyone about this (besides, maybe, some of the losers). He likes watching movies based in true stories so he can investigate the facts later, and learn something by watching it :)
Richie: Horror. Literally any kind of horror, but mostly slashers. Before Pennywise happened, he really liked clown horror too, and even forced the whole losers club to go and watch Killer Klowns From Outer Space right when it came out (and then laughed at the ones who got scared, because that's the most Richie thing to do).
Stan: Not really a movie guy, he'd rather watch documentaries. Richie laughs at him because of this, but he's the first to shut up when Stan picks an interesting one. Which happens almost always, as Stan is awesome at picking documentaries.
Eddie: Scifi movies are his favorites. He likes thinking of the possibility of a more advanced future, with cooler machines and better technology. When he's 15-16, wanting to rebel against his mother, he starts getting into horror movies because he knows his mother doesn't let him watch those. That phase doesn't last for too long after Richie brings him a very bloody one... but hey, at least it's something.
Bev: She likes musicals best, but honestly she'll watch a little bit of everything. Horror? Awesome. Scifi? Why not. Historical? Cool. Romance? Yeah. She also likes watching bad movies as a joke, those movies you end up rolling on the floor because they're so bad it makes them fun.

Favorite Extradimensional Monster Villains
Tumblr media
Pennywise / IT - Whether you're reading him on page, watching him played by Tim Curry in a TV miniseries or watching him played by Bill Skarsgard in two cinematic movies, the evil shapeshifting monster who feeds off the fear of children - along with the children themselves - is one of the most frightening creations in modern fiction. Something about his preferred form being that of a clown (Pennywise the Dancing Clown, to be specific), which in theory is supposed to be something that entertains and brings joy to children, makes him so utterly repulsive and skin-crawling. Worse still is that this isn't just a creature doing what it needs to in order to survive: this thing is evil and operates in a way to maximize his sadistic pleasure...and if angered enough, in a way to exact revenge upon whomever crossed him. I guess the only downside is that one's respect for him as an antagonist can't help but drop a little when he reveals that, if in a situation where his power is taken away, he's a rank coward who is overwhelmed by the feeling of his own fear. In the end, the joke is ultimately on the clown.
Tumblr media
Bill Cipher - It takes talent to turn a one-eyed triangle with noodly limbs, a bow tie and a top hat into as fearsome and loathsome a villain as he is a funny one, but Alex Hirsch had that talent and gave us one of the most memorable animated TV villains of the past decade. In addition to being powerful to a reality-bending degree, Bill Cipher is completely insane and devoted to spreading total anarchy and chaos just because he can. To that end, he will trick and manipulate anyone like a proper Satan figure, complete with the spread of fire frequently accompanying him. Like Pennywise he's reduced to a pathetic coward without his power, but given that it's heavily implied he became the demon he is now and didn't begin life that way its honestly more sensible, and in no way takes away from the apocalyptic terror he achieved beforehand. And all of this with just seven episodes actually present! When you have that little screentime on the whole yet leave such an impact, you know you're a great villain!

Film Review - IT Parts 1 & 2 (2017 and 2019)
I have not read the book IT or watched the older movie adaptation, so my only point of reference for this story is the two films from 2017 and 2019. I suppose I should preface this review by saying I wasn’t a huge fan. In general, I’m not a horror movie watcher, despite writing horror and reading it. There’s something about the visual aspect that takes it to a different level from the written word, where the fear feels more imaginary because it really is all in your imagination; you can’t see it or hear it. Horror is a genre, like romance, in which personal boundaries and tastes play the utmost role in one’s enjoyment of a story. I’m not a fan of stories that involve kids getting hurt, so this was never going to be for me. The Shining was different, maybe because it was more focused on the adults and Danny was never hurt too bad. The casual ableism and homophobia, especially in Part 2, left a bad taste in my mouth with the escaped mental hospital killer and “bury your gays” tropes. Anyway, while this movie was not for me, clearly it was for a lot of people given the blockbuster success. I’ll say right away that Stephen King’s name was a significant player in the success of IT. He's such a well-known horror author that someone brand new to the genre is likely to pick up something by him first, and longtime fans are going to eat up anything that comes out with his name on it. Let’s focus on the story, though. In a character driven story, it is the strength of the characters and the compelling dynamics and motivations between them that turn IT into a popular tale.
People love an underdog story. The group call themselves “The Losers,” and you can’t get more underdog than that. In this unbelievable world with alien fear entities, the characters’ motivations are touching and perfect in their simplicity. Someone wants to know what happened with his little brother’s disappearance. Someone wants to escape her abusive father. Someone has hidden romantic feelings for someone else. I remember when IT Part 2 came out, I had a friend who was obsessed with the characters, specifically Richie and Eddie. They don’t get a happy ending, but there’s enough potential there to capture an audience’s imagination, especially an audience that wants to see more LGBT+ characters; 2019 wasn’t a long time ago, but still in 2024, there aren’t a lot to choose from. Catharsis is an appealing emotion for an audience to crave, and has been for all of human history. Tragedy is one of the oldest artforms, going all the way back to Ancient Greece, progressing through Shakespeare, and coming to our modern emotionally motivated genres. For an example on this timeline closer to IT, there’s Ray Bradbury’s Something Wicked This Way Comes with the unsettling circus that preyed on a fear of aging. Compared to First Blood, IT has a pretty simple perspective on the good vs. evil theme, and it works wonderfully for the story being told. IT shows that you can have a book or movie with very popular, very old plot types and themes and still make it unique and appealing.
Even more basic than anything else mentioned before, down to the roots of the horror genre: IT is about people who want to confront a fear. The 21st century has been characterized by widespread anxiety. Economic downturns, climate crisis, wars across the world, censorship, backwards movement in human rights, and an entire plague. An audience seeks a safe environment to process fear and see it defeated in a tangible sense. The different ways Pennywise manifests in the film reflect our cultural fears: disease, hate crimes, loss of loved ones that we felt should have been preventable. And yes, the less abstract and existential ones like spiders and clowns. IT permeates our pop culture. I knew who Pennywise was long before delving into the movies. I wonder, were clowns a big fear before IT, or did it cause a surge in clown related fears? Does anyone remember the weird scary clown incidents from 2016?
There’s something interesting to be said about horror movies, which contain characters who are meant to be so grotesque and avoided at all costs, being turned into cute consumer goods. I was at the mall today and saw two different stores with displays with backpacks, shirts, and plushies of horror movie baddies like Jason, Chucky, and Pennywise. If you go online, you can find hundreds of results for smut with these creepy villains in less than one second. I am not shy to say I’m a monster enjoyer, but I can’t say I personally get the appeal of some of these more gruesome things like Pennywise. I never watched a horror movie like IT before and I don’t intend to again. I’m content with tamer shows like The Twilight Zone, and my Halloween decorations include classic monsters like skeletons, ghosts, and vampires. This all being said, I salute those with an interest in the creepy clowns and dolls and demons that I avoid, just like I’m sure there are others who like visceral horror but shy from the gothic tales and psychological thrills I prefer. Maybe preference doesn’t have to have an explanation. There doesn’t have to be deep literary analysis or audience psychology to study— “I just think it’s neat” is reason enough to enjoy a character or story! The horror genre is so varied, and it’s a wonderful thing. There’s a story for every fear that anyone is trying to confront, a story to excite anyone’s macabre fancies, and a special villain for every villain lover.

As a bridge between my Hansel and Gretel posts, and my future "Spooky season fairytales" posts, I want to talk here about one of the monuments of modern American horror: Stephen King's IT. The novel specifically - not the two movie adaptations.
I often say that "It" has both the absolute best and the absolute worst of Stephen King's writing in the first part of his career, because King manages to show all the reasons he was adored as a horror writer, while all of his flaws as a writer are exaggerated to massive degrees (which is probably because of his heavy use of drugs at the time - many people have pointed out IT is the typical kind of story writers tend to come up with when under the influence of products such as cocaine - very long, convoluted, excessive in the details, pushing forward weird sex...). This book is the ultimate synthesis of King's writing, for the best and the worst, with genial ideas on one page and despicable things on the next. The fact that it was adapted twice as successful horror cinematic pieces show that there is there the material for a great horror story - but in its literary form it is unfortunately buried under too many things that could have been trimmed down or that should have been better thought about before being put to page.
But if I am talking about it today, it is because "It" is actually closely tied to fairytales. It isn't obvious at first, since it deals with a group of children fighting a shapeshifting monster in their little town, a monster that takes the shape of 30s-50s horror movie monsters ; then the fight with the monster becomes a more social and psychological form of horror, as it reflects the children's own dysfunctional family units and a widespread corruption and evil in their town's very working ; and finally we go even further than a reflection on abuse and discrimination to enter an insane and trippy eldritch, cosmic horror domain.
However the fairytale themes and motifs are definitively here. The titular monster "It", is a shapeshifting creature that feeds of children by turning into their worst fears (his most famous appearance, "Pennywise the Dancing Clown", being merely a kind lure and a sort of "basis" form for the creature before it takes a "killing" form) - and thus mirrors so many child-eating antagonists of fairytales. The children themselves undergo a quest that has fairytale motifs, as they need to go fight the monster in the depths of its lair using child-logic magic, and after horrible trials they finally reach a happy end... Though this is all quite thin, true. Things get a bit more obvious when you look at the various "forms" and "appearances" the monster takes to track its victims. There is a recurrence of him becoming a werewolf to devour children - evoking the Big Bad Wolf. At one point, It creates a persona by mixing together a giant statue of Paul Bunnian and the giant from "Jack the Giant Killer". Finally, the first appearances of Pennywise in the book, all taking place under a bridge (three times in a row), were explicitly made to evoke the tale of "The Three Billy Goats Gruff", replacing the troll with a man-eating clown - in fact the Three Billy Goats Gruff was the ACTUAL starting point of the project in King's mind.
And finally, during one memorable scene, It actually explicitely takes the shape of the witch from "Hansel and Gretel" to terrify its victim. This scene always stuck out with me when I read the book, and King truly manages to weave a terrifying scene using the fairytale as Pennywise's weapon.
I will post the scene in question here in case you want to read it without reading the book. However I will do it in a reblog since there's a limit to how big a text post can be. The scene was adapted in both visual adaptations of "It", however in both cases the Hansel and Gretel material was removed, meaning you can only get the fairytale connection by reading the original scene.
As for the context of the scene: the group of protagonists, who battled and defeated It in their childhood, return as adults to their hometown, each seeking leftovers of their past, only for Pennywise to threaten them in various ways. This precise scene follows Beverly Marsh, a little girl that was abused by her father - physically abused, and almost sexually, given her father seems to have had borderline incestuous intentions. Now an adult, she decides to return to her old flat, and she prepares herself to face her aged father for the first time since decades. Only for her to find a nice old lady in his place...

HEY GUESS WHAT I'M DOING AGAIN
I'm writing a view! Yay cause the other one failed miserably SO WHY NOT DO IT AGAIN!?
So here's my review of 2017s IT chapter 1
Tw: Violence, Racism, Spoilers :)))
OK LET'S GET RIGHT INTO THIS!
So the movie begins with Georgie running outside and getting eaten by a clown...
Yayayay!
Then you get a little intro to each Loser.
Ben a new kid in Derry who's a big boy and that makes him very much bullied. By Henry.
Bill lost his brother (Georgie) and can't fucking talk like a fucking person GOD DAMMIT. He was in the group originally with Richie, Eddie and Stanley. Bullied by Henry.
Beverly the town whore (not actually a whore just rumors) has a super creepy Dad and is all on her own. Bullied by (not Henry!) some bitches. Jesus Christ.
Richie a class clown making jokes not being taken seriously and is head over heels for his best friend (not necessarily canon but come on) but is definitely straight heterosexual dude bro. I have a lot to say about this little dip shit. Bullied by Henry.
Eddie. Hypochondriac. I have more to say. Extremely overprotective Mother who made him think he would die if he touched grass. Feed him pills that didn't do shit. But at least he has Asthma. Bullied by surprise surprise Henry.
Stanley little Jewish boy. I don't really have much to say about him except that he's a year younger then the rest... OH and he's also bullied by Henry ✨.
Mike like the only black kid in Derry and just so coincidentally the character with the least amount of screen time. Wow. You guys failed miserably trying to fix his fear.
So eventually after killing a kid and saving Ben and Mike the group got together and became the losers club yay!
Slowly each Losers learns that they're all being chased by a killer clown named Pennywise. Hooray! Jesus Christ. They also learn that each one has a fear
Ben: Fear of being the new kid in a new town
Bill: Fear of being an only child and living without his brother
Beverly: Fear of her creepy perverted father who sexually abused her
Richie: Fear of only being seen as a class clown and never taken seriously (definitely not being a total homosexual at all)
Eddie: Fear of germs and illnesses once more 🫴🏼 hypochondriac.
Stanley: Fear of disappointing his father (that... Sure Wikipedia sure)
Mike: Fear of living in a racist town without his parents
And in order to beat pennywise they needed to beat there fears turns out they failed because he came back 27 years later!
Side note: I have a bone to pick with Stephen King. Why 27 years? Why not 30 or 25 why specifically 27!?
Now the group bonds "overcomes" there fears and hooray Pennywise dies! 🎉
But now where's the gay I was promised
Why do I have to wait until I watch chapter two to get my flashbacks of Rich's gay panic? Huh? BULLSHIT
I'm very mad about this.
The movie was known for being gory and scary I didn't flinch once. Ok maybe a bit when Henry slits his Dad's throat but uh HEY let's ignore that... Because unless you're really sensitive to clowns or blood this isn't scary I was more scared of Leonard throwing up on Eddie... Yeahhhh.
I'm also mad that there's a Beverly, Ben, Bill love triangle. PICK ONE. And pick Ben the poor guy needs a break.
I also wanted more warnings like people said shit like of Georgie got his arm ripped off! No. I much rathered a warning about Henry CARVING AN H INTO HIS STOMACH! Beverly's Dad. And Urgh I just hate how gross this movie was with the fucking piss water and shit like that.
Gore: no
Generally yucky things: yes
Get it the fuck out of the movie I nearly threw up when Leonard threw up on Eddie 🤮
There also wasn't any homophobia that I could tell in this Chapter which upset me deeply because in Stephen King's original novel Richie was going through a really hard Gay crisis but it wasn't much in Chapter one so yeah I'm not really happy that it was more prominent in Chapter 2 and barely there in chapter 1
I would like to point out little things I noticed from cross overs that were there before Chapter 2 was even made for example:
Right as Ben was being pinned to the fence and having an H carved into his stomach. There's a wide shot and you can see the R + E carved into the wood meaning that Richie put that there before the Losers club was made. I thought that was interesting.
I also saw that and I think this one was super obvious but when Stanley runs up to the arcade and tells Richie that Pennywise took Beverly he's wearing the same outfit and playing the same game as a scene in chapter 2. Richie was playing the game with a boy who turned out to be Henry's little brother (fucking fantastic). After the game finishes Richie and this boy have this little hand touch and wow it's making Rich feel some things and asks if he wants to play another game but Henry shows up! (Womp womp) He sees Richie calls him a faggot cause apparently wanting to play a game makes you Gay and Richie runs away. Now here's the thing. Since this happened Richie ran away and came back to play the same game. 🤦🏼 Idk correct me if I'm wrong but idk yet I haven't seen Chapter 2 yet.
Anyway yeah that's my opinion and I'm still deeply obsessed with Reddie. This didn't help. I just want more.

Eddie is being incredibly vocal tonight because my friend showed me this thing called Cinema Therapy about therapists analyzing movies, and we watched the one for IT which was really mostly about Eddie and Bev's treatment by their parents. I could go on an entire five hour rant about Eddie and mental health specifically, but it really woke me up and I was getting really passionate about things.
I also got the scare actor position, which yay! It was really challenging and I didn't think I'd make it, but they said my 'clown' audition was creepy as fuck. Little do they know I literally was doing and channeling Pennywise's opening speech in the sewer to Georgie, only I didn't use Georgie's name. Trying to get them to take a balloon and asking them about the circus and then getting all "You don't like the circus?" and obviously I didn't say "Bill's going to kill you" but changed it to "I'm going to kill you" and they said that sold it to them on the spot and I was like....thank you my obsession with (one) movie.

Clowns are good, actually
It's Halloween season, the most wonderful season of the year (wait your damn turn, Christmas). But this October I feel I need to set the record straight on something.
Clowns are great. Or at least they can be great. In fact, you probably already like at least one clown, even if you don't realize it.
These days, it seems like everyone is focusing on clowns as a horror icon. Whether it's Pennywise from Stephen King's It, or the Joker from Batman, Killer Clowns from Outer Space, Krusty from The Simpsons, or the Insane Clown Posse, everyone wants to cast clowns as something sinister. Ronald McDonald was one of the last wholesome white-faced clowns, and he's been largely been phased out.
Now, I will grant you, there is something uncanny about clowns when viewed up close. Making things worse, a lot of people's first exposure to a real professional clown is usually at a birthday party or a carnival, when they are a child. A young child in an overstimulating environment and interacting with a stranger in garish makeup intentionally behaving oddly can be disturbing, and can foster a very real phobia that lasts into adulthood.
But I also think that there's a reinforcing cycle there. Some people are afraid of clowns. That fear gets canonized into novels and movies and cartoons, so much so that culture starts to associate clowns with horror films more than with lighthearted comedy entertainment. That leads adults to stop hiring clowns ("we'll scare the kids"), causing more kids to be exposed to clowns through horror first, engendering even more fear.
That fear, though, falls apart when you realize that "clown" is not about the big shoes, red ball nose, and greasepaint makeup. Clowning is, really, just physical comedy and slapstick, often combined with performative stupidity. It's a close cousin to mime artistry, but may also include some amount of verbal jokes.
The iconic white makeup and colorful outfit originate in the realm of circus and carnival, where an entertainer with no microphone needs to amuse a crowd with lighthearted comedy. White makeup, with darker sections around the eyes and mouth, makes facial expressions "pop" to even someone in back of the audience. In other words, circus clown makeup looks weird up close because it's meant to be viewed from far away.
But you don't need that specific makeup or costume to be a clown. For one thing, the vaudeville clown of the early 20th century was more often "the tramp" archetype, with a dirty face, ragged clothes, and sometimes, a nose painted bright red to signify drunkenness.
Also, a lot of clowns aren't stage performers at all. They're movie stars, or TV stars. Of course there's Buster Keaton and Charlie Chaplin of the silent movie and early talkies. There's also the Three Stooges, iconic slapstick clowning. Harpo Marx of the Marx Brothers played the mostly nonverbal clown to offset his fast-talking brothers Groucho and Chico. Lucille Ball and her costars of I Love Lucy often used clowning, including the iconic candy factory scene. Much of Peter Sellers' work features clowning, most notably Inspector Clusoe of the Pink Panther series. Rowan Atkinson's comedy often is pure clowning, most notably in the character of Mr Bean. Other character-based film clowns include Jim Varney as Ernest and the recently passed Paul Reubens as Pee-Wee Herman.
Circus clowns aren't entirely gone either; if you've ever seen a Cirque du Soleil show (and if you haven't, you should) they sometimes have clowns come out during intermission to do crowd work. The few Cirques I've seen, the clowns have been hilarious, and the perfect palate cleanser between death-defying gymnastic performances that make up most of the show.
Clowning is also extremely difficult to really do well. Clowning is, like all comedy, highly sensitive to timing, you have to be pinpoint precise or the joke falls flat. That's hard enough with a verbal standup act, but when you add in exaggerated physical performances and remove most of the dialogue it gets nearly impossible. And you have to do all of this, while appearing like a clueless idiot, putting forth maximum effort to make it look like you aren't doing anything on purpose at all.
Clowning is an art form that is widely loved and one of humanity's oldest forms of entertainment. Its practitioners are some of our most well-known comedy entertainers throughout the 19th, 20th, and into the 21st centuries. It is a highly technical skill set, that can't look technical while being performed.
So can we stop making clowns horror villains all the time?

The Deal of the “After” Life-time Pt. 3
Part 1
Part 2
Part 4
Dream Realm
Jason has kept MJ in his arms while she snoozes, even though what Freddy said is true; about how he can’t bring her back to reality, he still wouldn’t let go. Though, he’s getting close to needing to wake up, so, he kissed MJ by the lips before putting her down and gently rub her head.
Meanwhile in the Real World
“I’m sorry about your mommy, Malon. I’ve known Freddy for quite a while; he wanted your soul in exchange for his assistance...” Papawise said. “What!?” Malon freaked out. “Now, calm down, I never did such a thing; when it comes to arrangements, you need to be specific; I only gave Freddy your warn-out shoes, which have your ‘sole’ on them.” Papawise chuckled. “I’m assuming that Freddy took that scheme of yours and decided to use that on MJ.” Pennywise assumes. “Perhaps... Now back to Malon here, there is a way to free your mother from her demise, however, it’s extremely risky and it needs to be done tomorrow night.” Papawise explained. “Why tomorrow night, what happens tomorrow?” Aquarius asked. “Tomorrow is the night of the full moon, the most powerful light-source for doing the ‘ritual’.” Papawise answered with pride. “It’s how the first generation of the so-called ‘Losers Club’ summoned Maturin the turtle spirit. It’ll work for freeing MJ. But... It comes with a price.” Malon listens to Papawise’s instructions and the cost. “There are two ways: one, is that we free MJ, in exchange for Freddy Krueger’s freedom, including that Shadow Man that MJ trapped years ago for her kidney.”
Malon freaked out, remembering that Shadow Man that tried to kill her years ago. “Is there another way, that doesn’t involve Freddy or that Shadow Man roaming free?” Malon asked nervously. “That comes to option two: find something of MJ’s that the five bestowed from her; however, if that is the way, MJ can get out without Freddy or the Shadow Man escaping, but, if Freddy does try to escape along with MJ, one of us has to make a sacrifice and take MJ’s place, in order to keep Freddy from escaping into the real world.” Papawise explained. “Sounds to me that we’ll have to go with option two; I know me and Pennywise can be involved in the ritual, including Jason obviously, and you’re going to be the one that says the ritual.” Aquarius advised. “We just need one more volunteer.” Pennywise added. Malon cleared her throat to get the clowns attention. “Are you forgetting about me? I can be the fifth.” Malon volunteered.
Papawise just laughs to Malon’s attempt. “You’re very cute, Malon, very cute indeed. But, I’m afraid that this ritual is going to be too dangerous for a young mortal like you; one blow from the ritual will have you down with the weeds.” Papawise explained. Malon looked over at Pennywise and Aquarius, since she’s not understanding what Papawise was saying. “He’s saying that this ritual is going to kill you if you’re not invulnerable or strong.” Pennywise explained. “Does MJ know anyone else that is able to survive the blow?” Aquarius asked Malon. Malon thought for a moment on some of the friends that MJ befriended with who cannot die easily, like her dad. Then she thought of someone. “The Candyman can.” Malon giggled, as she made a little tune; really, she was referring to Daniel Robitaille, but she only thinks of him as The Candyman.
Back in the Dream Realm, Jason was relaxing on the bed feeling pleased with himself, when he got MJ exhausted from all the pleasure he’s given her, even though he won’t wake up with her in his arms. Jason needed to wake up for Malon, so he gave his wife a kiss before tucking her in with a light sheet.
***
After Jason woke up, he tears up again, he really hated leaving MJ alone and not get to see each other in bed after waking up. Just then, he heard a door knock, so he got up and went towards the door to see who it was. He saw his daughter, along with Aquarius. “Guess what dad! We’re going to get mommy back.” Malon said happily. Jason was confused, how is that even possible? “Papawise is going to prepare a ritual tomorrow night, so we each need to find one thing that we bestowed from MJ; like a gift or a memento of her, do you know what I mean?” Aquarius explained then asked.
Jason thought about what Aquarius has told him, then Malon spoke up. “And since we needed one more person to be the fifth summoner, I thought we bring out Daniel Ro-be... uh, Robi-ti? Well, The Candyman, since he can handle the blow.” Malon explained. Malon couldn’t pronounce Daniel’s last name, she gets too embarrassed to accept help with the pronunciations, so she’s going to leave it at that. Jason nodded his head as he agreed, he even agree to let Malon say the ritual, as longs he’s in the bathroom with her; he remembered what he did to MJ years ago, even though he had a good side to him, he’s still a threat sometimes.
Dream Realm
MJ doesn’t know if it’s been an hour or a few minutes since Jason left, time can be confusing in the Dream Realm. Well, she knew that she’ll see him again when both him and Malon are asleep. However, she can’t stand the heat, it’s almost as worse than the bakery, if not ten times worse. So, bravely yet riskily, she went out to look for Freddy and ask him for an air conditioner; the only path that isn’t on with the heat and flames, which leads to where Freddy chills.
However, she couldn’t find Freddy anywhere. As MJ was looking around, thinking that Freddy has gone to hunt into people’s dreams, she heard dim cries. When she saw the large oven, she heard the cries more clearly. MJ didn’t know what she’s going to get of her, well heck, thanks to her kind heart in nature, she opened it, which let out a whole lot of trapped souls that Freddy couldn’t digest.
Seeing the souls be free made MJ feel good inside, but on the outside, it burns like... Well, Hell. What she didn’t know is that she’s not alone in the room, she was being watched by the Shadow Man; back in the previous story of Sacrifice, he was after Jason, then MJ, and then their one and only child. Because of what MJ did to him, he’s going to make sure that MJ will pay.
MJ knew that what she did will make Freddy angry, so she closed the oven’s door and rush back to her space, hopefully that Freddy wouldn’t notice.
***
When Freddy returned, The Shadow Man approached the tired Freddy. “What do you want, Shadow-fuck?” Freddy asked exhaustedly. The Shadow approaches the oven where Freddy keeps his souls. “Did you leave your ball in there, your bone?” Freddy joked. The Shadow Man doesn’t need to have a face to show disapproval. When Freddy opened the door, he was shocked. “What the fuck did you do, you Shadow-Fuck!?” Freddy asked in anger.
Meanwhile, MJ was in the room, praying that Freddy wouldn’t find out. Sadly, her prayers haven’t been answered. “MAKAYLA.” MJ jumped out of her skin and starting to sweat non-stop. MJ heard Freddy stumping on over to her space, so she hid in the closet.
Tumblr media
MJ thought she was in the clear when she no longer heard footsteps, that is until she stared at the exit of the closet, then comes Freddy. MJ screamed and shoved him out of the way, while she tries to escape, that is until The Shadow Man blocked her way. “YOU.” MJ screamed.
Freddy chuckled while approaching her. “I’m assuming you remember your old ‘friend’? He’s been thinking of you, ever since you gave up your kidney for keeping your family safe, and yet, you all still get into danger.” Freddy reminded. He didn’t forget about the escaping souls, so, he grabbed MJ by the back of her shirt and threw her onto the bed with a thump, MJ tried to get up and run, but she can’t move; in dreams, you go nowhere. Freddy sat on top of her and opened up her shirt to expose her back. “Please Freddy, I’m sorry; I just needed to get cool, so I--” “--thought I would have air conditioner? well, you’re thought wrong, now hold still!” Freddy raised his claws and smite across her bare back.
The Shadow Man smiled after hearing MJ screaming in pain and getting blood down her back. “Be advised, this is just a warning; if you do anything that will upset me, you’ll get worse cuts than this!” Freddy warned.
Tumblr media
“Until you stop bleeding, you can wear this nightgown; it should make you feel more cooler.” Freddy added as he threw the Victorian-style nightgown. MJ paid no attention, since all she’s doing is bawl her eyes out.
Freddy is aware that she has autism, but it doesn’t mean that he’s going to give his victim special treatment. “She’ll cry herself to sleep eventually, it’s a lesson that needed to be acted on.” Freddy explained to The Shadow Man.
***
Real World
Everyone who are part of the ritual, including The Candyman whom Malon summoned, all meet at the gazebo to show each other what they’ve got of MJ’s. “Why do you have a wrapper of a peanut butter cup?” Papawise asked The Candyman with a pop at the end of his sentence. “I offered her a Reese, since I’ve learned that they’re her favorite. After she ate it, she threw the wrapper in the trash, but I wanted to keep that as a memento of her satisfactory.” The Candyman explained. “One of the losers from the losers club used a game token to burn, so how is a candy wrapper not a good thing?” Pennywise asked. “I don’t have a problem; I just find it weird.” Papawise answered. “Oh, so I’m guessing that you don’t find MJ’s bra pad so weird?” The Candyman got back at Papawise.
Papawise does admit that he did snatch one of MJ’s warn-out bras, but since it’s too big for burning, he needed to just take the padding. “I don’t much care about it, since right now, I’m a female.” Papawise explained. “What do you have there, Pennywise?” Papawise added with a question for Pennywise. “It’s a freshness container for the pills for dog bites; MJ put me back into health with the pills she gave me, after the encounter with the wild dogs while trying to save MJ’s life, I wanted to keep the container, to remind me of her kindness.” Pennywise explained. “You do realize that turning the items into ash would take a long time, right?” Papawise informed. Everyone was shocked. “Are you saying that the things we’ve bestow from MJ is going to get burnt into ash! Why didn’t you tell us that before?” Aquarius asked angrily. “You never asked!” Papawise laughed with his Wah Hah act.
Malon and Jason stared at each other sadly while the rest were arguing with each other. “We’ll still get mommy back... Right?” Malon asked her dad. Everyone stopped after hearing Malon’s question. “Why are we fighting with each other, when we’re supposed to give up the things we cherish to save MJ’s soul?” Candyman asked. Aquarius nodded in agreement. “He’s got a point; the items that we have can be replaced, but, we can’t ever replace MJ. So, turning the items into ash will have to be our only option.” Aquarius said, after she put down a magnetic anklet for her headaches.
Jason looked into the sketch that MJ has made for him when they first met; she made a sketch of his mask, as a thank you for saving her innocents; to him, it’s because she was fascinated by his ‘good looks’. “Well, at least there’s one thing that’s easy to burn. Well then, I’ll just take this all back to my place and burn them into ash. We’ll meet at Camp Crystal Lake by the docks tomorrow evening.” Papawise announced.
***
At last, Malon and Jason get settle down at home while eating pizza for dinner. Then, they both get themselves ready for bed. Jason wanted Malon to sleep next to him, so that they can see MJ together in their dreams. “Mommy’s going to be so happy when she sees us. Too bad we can’t tell her about the ritual.” Malon said sadly. Papawise explained earlier that telling MJ about the ritual will not only get Freddy’s attention, but can lead to serious side-effects, such as brain-dumbing and loss of speech. Obviously, Malon and Jason wanted MJ to come back, all in one piece.
Dream Realm
The thing with dreams, they go to dreamland at a different pace, so Jason was the first to see MJ while Malon comes later. Jason noticed MJ on her stomach looking limp, he wondered if she was tired or if she’s upset about something. When he noticed bloodstains on the back of her shirt, he carefully placed a hand on her shoulder. MJ’s eyes were puffy-red with tear-stain on the bottom of her eyes. “Jay... He... He...” MJ couldn’t get the words out, so she gave him the look to give him the hint to open the back of her blood-stained top.
Jason’s heart dropped when he saw the claw marks on her back. He lifted his wife up and sat on the bed while hugging her tight. Malon came when she finally dozes off, but when she saw her mom crying, she was concerned. “Mommy... What’s wrong, aren’t you happy to see us?” Malon asked. MJ sniffed when she heard her daughter’s voice, that she finally stopped crying. “Hello, my little princess. I’m so happy to see you again; both you and daddy.” Malon smiled to see her mom smiling. Yet, Jason made Malon turn around for a minute, while he helps MJ get into the Victorian Nightgown that Freddy gave her.
When MJ stood up, she feels like sniffling after seeing that the nightgown was see through. “You’re beautiful, you look like a princess in pajamas.” Malon complimented. MJ was sniffling a little before she started to laugh a little to her daughter’s compliment. “Come here you!” MJ said to her daughter, while waiting for her daughter to give her a hug. “You remind me of little me; I say sweet compliments to make my mom feel beautiful... Just like you did.” MJ said before she gave her a kiss. Jason went down to hug his two girls. “Even though this was only a dream for you two, it felt real just to be hugged.” MJ said in between hugs.
***
For the rest of the dream night, the three decided to watch a Disney movie, even though the T.V is actually an 80s T.V Box, but it brings back MJ’s memories from when she was little, so watching The Jungle Book from that T.V Box with low resolution and pixels is no issue. “I know it’s not the same, Malon, but you have to realize that it brings me the childhood vibes.” MJ explained to her daughter, that is until she noticed Malon was sleeping next to her. “Aww...” MJ awed. Jason peeked over to see his daughter sleeping in her mom’s arms. Jason wished that he could make out with his wife while Malon was asleep, but he didn’t want to do it in front of her, even if she sleeps like a rock. However, there’s no rule on kissing his wife in front of his sleeping daughter.
When morning finally came, Malon and Jason tried their hardest to not wake up, but Jason forgot to close the curtains the other night, so the sun shun right into their eyelids. “Aww, dad, we forgot to close the curtains.” Malon whined exhaustedly. Jason understands that Malon was disappointed, he too gets upset whenever he has to wake up from a dream, when it’s the only time to see MJ. Luckily, tonight is the night where everyone does the ritual to bring MJ back, he just hoped that this whole ritual will be a success, or else Freddy wins; even if MJ comes out in the end, there’s still some risk of complications and losing a part of his love to the Dream Demon.
To Be Continued

I'm fully in support of Xavier liking the really terrifying and disturbing looking types of clowns. I could totally see him loving those types of movies as well. God, now I need to see or read that and Wednesday's reaction to it :)
THANK YOU!!!!!! the only horror clown i don't think he's into is ironically Pennywise from IT. the monster is like, literally bigotry and hate but an alien so i think that kinda cancels out the fun evil clown vibes. like he's also not a fan of actual real clown and serial killer john wayne gace. since it's the internet i have to expressly say that rip.
I think his top clown movies are:
The Last Circus (2010) -- a Spanish-French dark comedy-drama film. It takes place in 1937 in the middle of the Spanish Civil War. It follows a young trapeze artist who is forced to choose between Sergio, the Happy Clown and Javier, the Sad Clown. However, both of these clowns are deeply disturbed. Apparently Quentin Tarantino likes it too which is a vibe.
Killer Klowns From Outer Space (1988) -- an infamous cult classic science fiction horror comedy. it’s plot is pretty much what it says on the tin. i just think that xavier is allowed to like at least 1 (one) silly goofy thing and this is a romp.
but overall i 100% think Xavier's more into jesters and harlequins if we’re getting more specific about our clown vibes and especially if they're kinda ooky. Semi-unrelated but i also think his fave video game would be Alice the Madness Returns and that Alice is 1000% his video game waifu.
Tumblr media
I mean..... look at her...... this game came out when he was about 11.... you can’t tell me that 1. anyone in his house would care he’s playing an M rated game and 2. he wouldn’t be like “oh wow she’s surly, violent, dark haired and gorgeous i’m in love?????”
completely related again but i will put “wednesday confronting his love of clowns” on my “to write” list lol
