As Dreamworks's deal with Netflix for exclusive shows expires (they first signed a deal with Hulu for exclusives and now seem to be given shows to them and Peacock), shows have begun to leave the service en masse. However, due to the nature of staggered contracts, many of these shows will not be leaving Netflix for at least a year, while others may have several years left on the service. What's on Netflix did some calculations based on when the final seasons were added and came up with some removal dates for the shows -
Voltron: Legendary Defender (N Original)December 14, 2018 December 14, 2024
She-Ra and the Princesses of Power (N Original)May 15, 2020 April 10, 2026
3Below: Tales of Arcadia (N Original)July 12, 2019 August 7, 2026
Wizards: Tales of Arcadia (N Original)August 7, 2020 August 7, 2026
Trollhunters: Tales of Arcadia (N Original)May 25, 2018 August 7, 2026
There are plenty of other expiration dates on that list, but these are the big ones I noticed, mostly because they were attempts at franchise creation that fell completely flat. Voltron's big-budget Amazon movie is due for a 2025 release in a best-case scenario (worst-case scenario is more Robotech-style development hell) and with the rollout of a lot of classic Voltron merchandise including the oft-mentioned Voltron beer, the plan to erase VLD from everything come the film release is well underway. Dreamworks doesn't seem to mind, since they're still the video distributor for DOTU on behalf of World Events Productions, their name is on the Voltron beer.
She-Ra is a similar story. The franchise is also with Amazon via Dreamworks, for a live-action show directed by one of the directors of the Watchmen TV show. Hopefully, whoever plays Hordak can chew the scenery as hard as Jeremy Irons did. It probably will air sometime in 2025-2026 best case scenario as well, just in time to see SPOP eliminated from everything (something Mattel is only too happy to facilitate given their release of classic She-Ra figures for their Masterverse brand of toys).
Trollhunters was meant to be a franchise but despite a lot of big names attached to it, it went absolutely nowhere and everyone seems to have disavowed the whole thing after the ending. So it's just getting tossed to one side.
The internet means IP gets recycled and discarded faster and faster these days. And these are three examples of shows set to disappear from the face of the earth, to the glee of the license holders.

ADORA NEVER LEFT CATRA.
And that's a fact, even if this show loves to contradict itself.
in fact, adora gave multiple opportunities for catra to come with her. catra is the one who constantly abandoned adora. catra REFUSED to go with adora multiple times and then acted like she was in the right for saying that adora abandoned her.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
adora left the HORDE, not catra. she really wanted catra to come with her, she did her best for catra to accept that. however, as shown in these three scenes as examples, catra left adora. nothing else, she just left adora behind.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
and even so, this show loves to make the spop fandom believe that adora is the abandoner here. like in the scene below, where double trouble says "left you" in adora's form to catra. catra even implies in season 5 that "of course adora left, that's what she does isn't it?" and even during her love confession where she says "so please, just this once, stay!".
Tumblr media
yeah, spop really doesn't give a shit about adora. CATRA is the traumatized one, the abused one, the abandoned one. adora's trauma doesn't matter to them.

i'm losing my mind how are there STILL ACTIVE CATRA HATE BLOGS it's been FOUR YEARS how are you still this mad about a female abuse victim!!!!!! how do you STILL not get it!!!!!!!!!!
I have been in enough fandoms to understand that some of the people who stick around the longest are those who act the most scarred after watching the media. It's like stockholme syndrome. Or it's like hating the thing is what gives them drive in the world.
I have also been on the other side of this. I remained a Homestuck blog for a whole four years after the ending made me depressed about Terezi Pyrope, even lasting an additional year and a half after the dogshit epilogues released, through to the demise of Hiveswap and Homestuck^2, before I realised enough was enough and let Adventure Time give me sanctuary again.
But Homestuck had its Gamzee fans who hated the comic and fandom, Adventure Time had its Lemongrab fans who hated the show and fandom, and it seems She-ra has its fair share of antis.
The She-ra antis consist of the following groups, from my observation:
Former fans who got obsessed with some other show and have to bash She-ra because it ain't cool anymore. Usually Owl House fans but can be from anywhere. Their hate is universally connected to propping something else up, and is never done in isolation.
Hordak fans who hate Catra and maybe every other character and crew member and the show. There are a lot of the reverse, Catra fans who hate Hordak, which is part of why this group is so persistent, as a "counter" to this Hordak hate. However, the Catra fans who are Hordak antis MOSTLY do not hate the show (they are just... out of touch with it and generally have bad takes). I've seen one or two extreme cases of Catra apologists accusing Adora, Scorpia, and even Entrapta of abuse, but they were completely alone in their feelings. The Hordak fans who hate Catra tend to also hate Glimmer, Mermista, Adora, Bow, and say that the show is ableist or whatever, but they do not actually harbor much love for Entrapta. Her victimisation is an excuse for their behaviour and they have no understanding of her chaotic character. Do not interact.
Glimmadora fans (the ones who purely seem to exist to make 'Spop Is Abusive' posts). Why the fuck Glimmadora fans hate the show so much, I do not understand. But these are probably the most In-Your-Face of these three groups. While the Hordak fans mentioned above have a lot of similarity to Homestuck Gamzee fans or Adventure Time Lemongrab fans in the weird way they'll hate on the show for doing their blorbo wrong, Glimmadora fans don't have that evidence because they don't really care about Glimmer or Adora. They have absolutely nothing to say about the show, other than that it is Bad. My theory on these Glimmadora fans is that they really liked the Glimmer and Adora ship on a superficial level, and then the show decided to have its Deeper Themes and give Catra and Adora a messy, complicated relationship. There was a lot happening after season 3 where people went "CATRADORA IS REALLY ABUSIVE AND CATRA IS HORRIBLE AND YOU SHOULDNT SHIP HER WITH ANYONE". This period was SO fucking harmful to the fandom that it never recovered, so much work was lost and deleted from AO3. People would say "Glimmadora is a much better ship anyway". But then when season 4 rolled around and, uhh, Glimmer was acting like a little shit all season (for good reason but she really fucked things up with Adora), and Glimmadora crumbled into ash? Well the Glimmadora truthists felt like the show was working against them and that Season 5 was a grand conspiracy to make the Abusive ship Catradora canon!!! The funniest part of this is I sympathise a lot with these feelings. I used to be a Glimmadora truther myself when I watched the show in fall 2021. I was like, "wow, look how nice this ship is. And they go with catradora in the end?? Fucking HOW???". But then seasons 4 and 5 happened and.... yeah, I was disappointed with how Glimmer and Adora's friendship ended up, but I was ENAMORED by the messiness of Catra's character and how raw her and Adora felt about each other even in spite of all the bullshit. I never made excuses about the show being abuse apologising. I analysed it purely in how believable the relationships were and what the intentions of the characters are.
Of these groups, the ones responsible for the most actual SPOP Anti blogs are undoubtedly the Glimmadoras. The only time I've seen something similar, so many antis appearing, was because of Steven Universe ship wars. You have NO IDEA how petty people feel about Lapidot, Amedot, all the dots, all the amethysts. A crew member was chased off the internet over it, or left the internet over the show's own decisions, depending on whether you believe the """screenshots""" that were taken of Zuke's ""private blog""".

i had seen the first post before and i didn't really feel like making a post about it, but that addition in the reblog makes me want to.
i don't ship zutara but i can see why people like it. it did have a lot of potential and after zuko's redemption arc, i don't think a relationship with katara would be toxic or abusive in any way.
the main reason for this is because their conflict was never personal. zuko and katara were enemies but neither of them knew much about each other, so there were no personal attacks. there were no jabs at each other's insecurities and for most part, they were on par with each other when fighting. katara was slightly stronger than zuko but she never used her strength to endlessly torture zuko and revel in his pain. he never did that to her either.
so yeah, an enemies to lovers arc would have been possible with zuko and katara because their conflict revolved around the fact that zuko was trying to capture aang. and after his redemption arc, he was able to form a good friendship with katara, which could have then turned into a romantic relationship. (it didn't but i'm not in the mood for kataang vs zutara discourse rn i'm not a big fan of either ship)
it's not my cup of tea but it is a healthy relationship with mutual respect.
that's not the case with c//a. you cannot compare it to zutara because catra's and adora's relationship was toxic even before they became enemies. catra had started exhibiting abusive traits from when she was around 5 or 6. and she never stopped it.
and catra's “redemption arc” doesn't do shit to save their relationship because she remains self-centered and toxic till the end. she keeps victim blaming and manipulating adora and they still get together somehow.
“toxic ppl just can't understand redemption arcs” ah, the uno reverse. i see you. calling people toxic for not liking your favourite ship is totally justified, i guess. also calling them sexist and lesbiphobes, that's nothing new in the spop fandom honestly. and calling catra's characterization in s5 a “redemption arc” is the biggest joke i've heard.
this person really saw zuko's redemption arc that stretched out in three seasons where he slowly sees the damage the fire nation did to the entire world and starts taking accountability for his actions and making amends, then saw catra literally making a last-minute decision to save glimmer and doing absolutely nothing else to change herself or reflect on her actions, continuing to abuse her partner/sister; and they thought “yep. these are the same.”

as i said before, i believe that spop got inspired by zuko's redemption arc when they developed catra's. one thing that makes me think that is the "hair arc" both characters go through. or at least that's smth fans love to compare and i wanted to dissect here.
i think with the exception of s5, catra's hair arc is less extreme in the first four seasons. catra took out her hair tufts in s4. i've seen ppl point out that it was bc shadow weaver would touch that specific part of her hair to mess with her, so catra removed it altogether. regardless, her hair is also visibly straightened (and longer?) in s4, unlike it's "wilder" appearance in s1-3.
but then s5 comes around... and catra's hair is forcibly cut. she doesn't have the choice to do that. even then, ppl still compare catra's hair arc to zuko's, likely how the hair looks itself. but let me tell you why they're different.
zuko is always the one who changes his hair.
in book 1, zuko and iroh are forced to hide from the fire nation. zuko is the one who cuts his own hair. it grows throughout book 2, which also indicates zuko's growth as a person. he's starting to realize things. at one point he even starts accepting living in the earth kingdom with his uncle. but then azula comes along and she convinces zuko to return home and restore his honor. while yes, azula manipulated him, zuko still made the choice to go back to the fire nation when he could very well not to. he betrayed uncle iroh and katara (and the gaang overall), and with that he returned home.
in book 3, zuko's hair was mainly tied up, probably indicating the control of the fire nation over him. i vaguely remember his hair being loose whenever he went out and visited his uncle in prison, or when he was with mai (though in some situations with her, his hair was still tied up). finally, zuko lets it free, he faces his father and decides to join the avatar. regardless of influences, because they were there, zuko always had the choice to do differently. that's why his hair arc is so meaningful. in fact, his hair is never the same in all three seasons of atla.
catra's hair arc is not the same. i think it's implied that she cut it even more after being chipped by horde prime, considering it looks even shorter than when she was brainwashed. still, catra didn't have the choice here. and if you headcanon her as a woman of color (which nate somewhat "confirmed"), then this is only more insensitive and not well thought out. they never touch on that specific part of her arc. catra is never shown to be upset about her hair. if anything, it only makes her look "cute" and a "soft uwu baby" (when she rlly isn't). i hate that fans who apparently love the fact catra is a woc never call this out. everyone seems happy with short-haired catra.
the only ppl i've seen that actually criticized this decision are spop crits/antis like myself. i could be wrong, but fans rarely criticize this show overall.
anyway, yeah, i'm tired of everyone trying to tell me catra and zuko are the same. their hair arcs are not at all alike.

Going into detail about EVERYTHING I hate about spop
This was the winner of the poll! Keep in mind these are in no particular order! I hope you enjoy it! This VERY long post so be warned!
The representation it's so bad, a lot of it is just stereotypes. Bow being the black best friend, Mermista being the sassy black woman, Catra being the angry Hispanic woman, and the only autistic character being put ON A LEASH!? The only non-binary character being a fucking LIZARD!?
Catradora. It is awful. It is so bad. It's so romantized despite being in a KID'S SHOW! That's what I hate most about it. Little kids will see this and believe this is how they should treat the person they love, or this is how someone who loves them treats them. It's just bad. Really bad.
How they ignore everyone's trauma. Some characters have some really interesting trauma that could be explored, but they just get ignored for abusive catgirl! Seriously, some of the trauma could be legitimentally interest, like Micah, how did he feel about not being able to say goodbye to his wife? About being in beast island for years? Haha no you idiots, he has no trauma! He's just a goofy dad haha! How about Glimmer who also didn't get to say goodbye to her mom, who sacrificed herself so everyone else can live? Who was crushing under the pressure of being queen! Who had everyone around her ignore her mom's death? Who got manipulated by Shadow Weaver when she was vulnerable? Haha! No, she has no trauma! Angella, always feels a lingering guilt about her husband, who believes her husband is dead. Haha! Nope! No trauma! (I used three examples but there is so much more)
Seahawk. That's it.
The way they treat war, they've treated it as a joke, a game, and a backdrop, they don't show how it affects people, we couldn't of gotten to see citizens stories of how their lives were affected? Nope!
The amount of filler. White Out and Mermesteries, have no point other than being annoying filler, they don't have any meaning to the plot, and to make it worse they just drag on and on.
The wasted potential. This is so annoying. It has so much potential, if it was given to competent writers, it could've been so good, maybe even a masterpiece, but it's just so...bad.
The "jokes" I'm being nice by calling them jokes. They are more like awkward moments that beg you to laugh. Haha Kyle, a poor innocent kid gets bullied for the 35455467568th time please laugh! Haha! Bow's voice cracks for the 967986786897th time! Laugh again!
Seamista, Mermista looks like a teenager, and Seahawk looks like he's an adult. Mermista clearly doesn't like Seahawk, Seahawk just kept invading her boundaries and eventually, they got together. Seriously what the fuck?
Worldbuilding, it is so bad at it. We never see any citizens or get a feel for how the world looks, the only difference is cosmetic
Catra's redemption arc. Just in general. it was so rushed.
The needless ships in season 5, they are so rushed and have no purpose to the plot.
The princesses are so boring and one note, for them being the title, they don't do much.
The character arcs, or lack thereof, the ones we do get are boring and one note.
The pacing is just so bad, it's either too slow or too fast.
Season 5. It's self explanatory.
That's about all I could think of at the moment! Let me know what you think!

SPOP and “Choice”
Spop has a secret theme, something that connects all the characters, and that theme is “Choice” and every important character embodies it. I mean, look at the best friend squad, each of their stories explores a different facet of choice.
Adora- Adora has never had choice. Everyone, from the Horde to Light Hope to Shadow Weaver to the Rebellion all deny her choice. In season three, she called out Catra’s choices, figuring out what is and isn’t her fault. In season four she rejected her destiny and made a choice to save the world by smashing the sword. In season five she finally makes a choice that benefits herself (the choice to go back for Catra near the heart, and then the choice to stay alive and kiss Catra at the heart). Obviously there’s more to say about Adora and choice, because she’s the main character and so the theme is most obvious with her.
Catra- Catra’s story, like Adora’s, is about embracing choice and rejecting destiny. Her destiny just isn’t as obviously stated as Adora’s as it comes from trauma and is most enforced by Catra herself rather than an external force like light Hope. Her “destiny” is to be trapped in the cycle of pain and abuse forever, and although it seems like she’s making choices, she’s just reacting out of fear and anger for most of the show. However, when she chooses to live and try to be better, she is finally making choices and not letting her life be defined by those who hurt her.
Bow- Bow is a fairly static character, but his arc with his dads is about him making a choice to go against the plan others had for him. (Because unlike sexuality, being a fighter is actually a choice)
Glimmer- Sparkles is the odd one out. She has already rejected authority (Angella) and is making choices all the time. Her arc is about learning that her choices have consequences when she becomes queen. She learns that she has the power of choice (and she maintains this power on horde primes ship no matter how much he tries to take her choice away) and that she has to do the right thing with it.
Also Horde Prime is literally the embodiment of an absence of choice. I don’t feel like I have to explain that one it’s pretty obvious.
Also light hope and shadow weaver both manipulate people into thinking they don’t have choice. I could go on forever.
Please please rb with your thoughts I know there are so many smart ppl in this fandom I want to hear what y’all think.

I am still a little obsessed with this
I had an idea for a Catradora fic like a year ago and ugggh I'd need to rewatch the whole show to do it any justice and I dunno if I have the patience
Anyway have some barely-edited info-dumping I did last March in a tiny discord server for a completely different cartoon ship*:
The other night when I couldn't sleep it occurred to me that there could/should be a very realistic fic out there of catra and adora, after the events of the last season, having a very passionate but over-dramatic relationship for a couple of years, then breaking up and getting back together multiple times before one or both of them decides Actually, we have to break up, for real, we are slowly killing each other over this; and one of them moves away and they both get therapy of some kind and both try dating other people but it just isn't working out (I can absolutely see Adora in a relationship that's perfectly fine and healthy but also boring as fuck, and her just thinking: huh, I guess normal people are supposed to feel like this? but it just feels like it's missing something, but the thing it's missing might just be a lot of arguing and crying and make-up sex, so like, I should just. stop missing that. probably. And Catra ending up in a bunch of short-term things where all of them end with either the other person going dude you are in love with someone else and I can tell or her feeling guilty and breaking it off bc the other person is obviously more into her than vice-versa)
And anyway after like ten years or something they see each other but one or both is still dating someone else and it's like ha ha our younger days were SOMETHING ELSE weren't they, oh did you get therapy oh good me too, I'm glad you're doing well, nice to bump into you :) but they're both internally screaming because yeah those feelings are Still There, fuck fuck fuck
The current partner of whichever of them dumps them bc "you're still in love with your ex" but neither of them say why the dump happened and the dumped one doesn't say anything to the other, which means they hear about it through the grapevine, and their heart goes YOOOOO and their brain goes "I thought we were actually done with this and being Good about it fuck fuck fuck" and theyre both :) still normal to each other :) all the time :)
PINING I love pining hhh lol
But yeah there's, I dunno. A party? with a lot of people? maybe they each have one (1) drink, not even enough to impair them, and the next thing you know they're making out in a closet or something somewhere, and then one or both of them is crying hysterically, and after a lot of talking they're like, I want to try again. But as actual adults who've had time to grow up and have a lot of therapy. So they do, and it's good, and all their friends are like Oh thank god you two are both the stupidest motherfuckers on earth.
Halfway through the first post I realized I am half re-writing one of my fave Sherlock fics but putting it on top of She-Ra characters and adapting it to spop's plot but it'S JUST A GOOD STORy and honestly how it would actually happen
Because they were SO YOUNG in the show and neither of them had ever seen a healthy relationship modeled, ever, by anyone; and they're both heavily traumatized on top of it. And love isn't always be enough to deal with all of that. It's just not.
Me: this would make a good romance novel if we could file off the serial numbers
Also me: it's only interesting to me because it's THESE CHARACTERS like how the fuck would you include the backstory lolol
My dumb brain is like, "look I know spop ended three years ago and also, this is obviously the kind of story that AN ACTUAL ADULT writes, generally speaking; so nobody would read it, but what if you spent a year writing this"
But also half the plot feels like it's lifted from The Speed of Objects in Motion by holyfant (linked above) which is still, easily, one of my top-two Sherlock fics of all time, bc it's just so painfully realistic--they do end up together again at the end, but there's a lot off off-again/on-again and arguing and then a few years they're not together in the meantime
Anyway, re: spop: Fate and destiny are great but real happily ever afters would be so hard with everything that lead up to the end of the series
------------
>:( at myself for being like "oh it would take a year to write this" bc if I had actually done it I would be done by now pfffffft

She-ra (2018) Con-Exclusive Merch & Giveaways
I'm assembling a master post of all officially-produced merch for the SPOP reboot, but it's focused on information. I have a separate post focused on promotion-exclusive items, and this post is dedicated to detailed information for the ambiguous middle ground: con exclusives. Some of these were given away and some were for sale.
If I get additional information on any of these specific items, I'll edit the post to add it, but if I find anything new then it'll go in a reblog addition as I've hit the image limit on this post.
Sometimes you have to click photos to see full images, as many are cut off due to varying dimensions. Any [x]s will lead to the source of the images, usually secondhand listings that will eventually become defunct. I use the best photos I can find.
Pins/Buttons:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The buttons (first two images) were at NYCC in 2018. [1st] [2nd].
Han Cholo sells a lot of pins on their website, but the four on the right were exclusive at SDCC one year (concept photo in the final reblog here, this post chain in general has a ton of photos of She-ra merch from a mix of sources). [3rd]
Misc:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
A foam tiara (2 photos) and a (seemingly foam and plastic) flat sword were at NYCC 2018 & 2019 and SDCC 2019. [2nd], [3rd]
There aren't any good photos and I'm at the image limit anyway, but there are pictures in the final reblog here of knee-high socks that were given out at promo events (possibly cons) and in reviewer/influencer promo packages. They're patterned after She-ra's uniform and have a cape on the back. Any details on this would be appreciated if you know them.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Temporary tattoos (far left) and stickers (middle left) were at NYCC 2019 and maybe also Power-Con. Coloring sheets and hair ties were at either NYCC or Power-Con. The coloring sheet is watercolor with paint squares provided at the top of the sheet. I believe the hair ties came in three colors (purple, pink, and blue) and the long post* has good photos of the pink one. If you want to look at approximately ten pixels, this listing has all three colors. [1st] [2nd] [3rd]
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Bookmarks were available at SDCC one year and likely any other locations that had the books (Power-Con, etc). [x]
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Collector card sets featuring 16 of the characters were given out at cons, possibly SDCC 2018. First image is the front of the packaging, second is one of the cards, and the third is the back of the package. [1st] [2nd] [3rd]
Posters:
Buckle up, this is the final, longest part. Posters were at many conventions and some designs may have been available at multiple cons. I mostly want to catalogue the designs here and will list a con just when I know it. Most listings online are of fan reprints unless otherwise specified.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The first four (left to right) were available at SDCC 2019. The 4th & 5th are the front and back of the same poster, which was probably also distributed at places like Power-Con or wherever they sold the books (since it's a Scholastic poster). [4th] [5th]
Here are clean social media uploads of the 2nd and 3rd image. The 2nd was also the cover image for season 3 and the front of the DVD for seasons 1-3.
The character mini prints in the bottom right [6th] seem to have been given out at multiple cons. They were probably at SDCC (year unknown) and/or Power-Con (year unknown). The collector card designs roughly followed their design pattern.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
All three of these were at SDCC WonderCon. The first was 2019 and the second was probably 2018. The 3rd was supposedly at 2023 but was (probably) 2018 unless they still just had a bunch of extras laying around. WonderCon also had a variant of the 4th poster from the SDCC section above, but I can't find good photos of it and there's going to be a third variant of it further down too, so at this point I think you get it.
The first design is the cover image for season 2.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The first was probably at NYCC 2018. The right two were given out at a NYCC 2019 panel, as well as sent out with an exclusive statuette to family bloggers to promote season 4.
The first design is the cover art for season one. Its design was also used for a shopping bag at Anime Expo 2019 (photo in the final reblog here). The second one is the cover image for season 4.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Distribution currently unknown (if there ever was one). The second image is the cover for season 5. I'll edit on the distributions if I happen to find them, but I'm fine with what I've got here. I could have missed one or two posters, but since their distributions mostly amounted to handing out flyers, they're hard to find.

Queer rep is not a vacuum
There is so much debate over what is and is not queer rep and it seems to change with each new show. For this I’m going to explore four series that I’m personally a fan of and break down their rep individually ;LOK, SPOP, TOH and Arcane. I will do it this way because Queer rep is not a vacuum.
It is first important to understand the perspective I’m coming at from this: so Yaama, if you don’t know me I’m a queer [Enby and Demi sexual lesbian]and indigenous [Australian] writer; I mainly write about queer people for queer people. I also want to say that I am not bashing any of these series, I love them all.
1. Korrasami
Korra and Asami have a slightly rocky relationship when they first meet but they become fast friends. Both characters are confirmed Bisexual and their relationship is far more obvious from a  queer perspective. They are far less explicit than other shows on this list but that is due to studio censorship.
The ship itself is really sweet. Both women are close and support each other with Korra writing to only Asami at one of the roughest times of her life.
This ship, being the first queer rep in Avatar, followed by Kya being confirmed as a lesbian, gets a lot of flack for being too subtle and not built up enough. As much as I do not like Some writers on the Avatar team, I do genuinely believe they were trying their best here.
The ship itself isn’t problematic and came at a time when there was little rep in mainstream media, let alone kids media. While it has it’s issues, it is some of the first rep kids in my generation saw. Sue me, I’ve got nostalgia.
2.SPOP
This is a contentious one but it cannot be denied that SPOP was full of Queer rep. Spinetossa, catradora, None of the princesses were straight and Double Trouble.
SPOP is unashamed of it’s queer rep and as world where no one is straight, no one is homophobic. This provides escapism that we as queer people sometimes need.
While Catradora has it’s criticisms, it’s a beautiful ship that underpins the narrative  and drives the plot. to call it “toxic” or “abusive” ignores the nuance of the story.
Spinetossa is a solid relationship that provides fluff and comedic relief in the darker episodes. they’re background characters but the nature of their relationship is clear from the start. they’re always together, they wear chokers with each other's colours . From the get go, before we even hear the cute nicknames we know they are a unit.
Double Trouble , while  stemming from a problematic trope, is a solid character with complexities and comedy gold to spare. While the trope of making nonbinary characters non human is dodgy at best in a show where cis characters are also not human they don’t stand out too much so they can have a pass.
3. TOH
TOH is also unashamedly queer, Eda, Raine, Willow’s dads, Lumity, Edric.I’ve also seen commendations on the Neurodivergent rep  but that’s not my place.
Disney was obviously trying to censor things earlier on but around late season two A Dana stopped giving a shit and good for her. We got Edric having a partner, to quote his sister Emira “ After he accidentally sent  a love poem to THEIR mum”. Love that for him. The first Lumity kiss and them getting together and everything after it.
Willows dads’, minor and cliched as they may be do not come of a tokenistic, a nice change from other shows there the Mc’s best friend’s queer parents is often some of the only rep.
And Raine, a nonbinary person, who while not quite human isn’t an alien/robot/demon/spirit. They’re also a prominent character and their relationship with Eda is just a delight.
Cool Aunt Lilith, AroAce queen and all the flags in season three and it’s only the first episode.
there are some issues with Luz dating her friends ex bully but they address it and smooth it over.
4.Arcane
The biggest thing to come out of Arcane was CatVi/Violyn. I’ve seen some people ship Caitlyn and Jayce but that’s a small group.
Both character’s are confirmed as lesbians. While I love Luz I do find that lesbians do often get left behind in representation or claimed as Bi when they aren’t.
there’s not much else in terms of queer rep for Arcane but it’s very clearly a world where homophobia isn’t an issue.
The CatVi relationship is also important to the story and builds up over the first season. the show isn’t concerned with it but it’s nice to see.
All this to say, Queer rep isn’t a vacum, just because one series shows wholesome queer people and another shows messy, complicated queer love does not make either superior to the other. To put wholesome queer relationships over messy ones perpetuates respectability politics. Both can be good queer rep, both can be bad queer rep.

I think it would've been kinda cool to see Cassandra act genuinely menacing during season 3. Her almost crushing Eugene was kinda along that line, but it was a shortish lived moment. I guess I mean just overall. Instead of mostly seeing her war with her inner emotions and whatnot (also zhan tiri but she always ended up listening to her), I would've loved for her to fully lean into the whole villain thing. Might have helped the plot a little during the wrap of the tts.
Honestly, her behavior in "Cassandra's Revenge" is my favorite from her villain arc. She's confident, intimidating, ruthless, and is barely pulling her punches.
This is part of why I think it would have made more sense for them to reach the Dark Kingdom and Cassandra turn on them during season two. Then it would have given Cassandra more time to build up her villainy before realizing she was wrong and going for that sweet, sweet redemption.
The plot they gave us could have been done in a more satisfactory* way, changing very little but the timeline. The conclusion of her villain arc and redemption was rushed to all hell. I'm not a huge fan of Catra being redeemed in SPOP, but at least she was given time to be redeemed. She had to face the consequences of people not trusting her and prove she was on their side (much like Varian did). But Cassandra had the last, what, fifteen minutes of the entire show to decide she was wrong (and only because ZT double crossed her and Cassandra lost everything she'd been fighting for in S3), be forgiven (by Rapunzel, which the showrunner decided meant that everyone forgave her, including the audience), help with the final fight, die (of what, there's no canonical answer, regardless of what individuals and groups think probably happened), be brought back, and leave Corona. Fifteen minutes of a three-season show, one whole season of which she was the villain for. Honestly, the build up to her turn was more believable than the actual turn and villainous arc.
*More satisfactory, not flawless. There's a lot I would change about her villain arc, but changing the pacing would have gone a long way to fix the issues.

The first five episodes of spop are the only eps I have NEVER revisited in my three years of being a fan.
Actually I never rewatched Shadows of Mystacor either, but know that I imprinted that episode into my mind. It is a wonderful episode, it was probably the first ep that hit me emotionally. It also makes me sad because for all the support Glimmer offers Adora in this ep, she takes it back in season 4. So I haven't been able to rewatch this one because it hurts my feelings! Yayyy!!!
As for the others, well, I see lots of gifs of The Sword, but the events of Flowers for Perfuma, Razz, and The Sea Gate could be a fever dream. The only event I roll in my mind is when Catra scratches Adora's back in Sea Gate. It was a raw moment.
Episode 6 is the odd one out in this block because it's Entrapta's introductory episode so of course I've rewatched it a dozen times to grab screenshots and such for my various silly posts.
I do think that the show doesn't hit its stride until episode 7 onwards, because after Shadows of Mystacor, you get banger after banger until the end of Season 1. It's hilarious that the s1 finale Battle of Brightmoon is the worst episode in the second half of the season. It's not bad in any way, it just doesn't have the power of any of the episodes leading up to it.

The fact that Mabel (Gravity Falls) and Marcy and Sasha (Amphibia) get more hate than Catra is crazy. The aforementioned three definitely did bad things, but they actually FELT REMORSE, REALIZED THEY WERE WRONG, AND STROVE TO FIX THINGS.
i know mabel gets a lot of hate (and most of it is definitely undeserved) but i've only mostly seen people loving marcy and sasha? maybe i'm in the wrong side of the fandom but i've definitely only seen praise for these two, even though marcy's switch from bad to good was too sudden and sasha's redemption arc happened completely offscreen.
of course, they're not as bad as catra and at least they actually change in the end, but i still found their arcs to be pretty unsatisfactory. marcy was a really compelling character in s2 but then the writers decided to woobify her for the entire third season, adding more and more reasons why we, the audience, should sympathize with her.
i would have liked to see them explore her moral greyness more but i feel like the writers made the same mistake that spop writers did with catra. instead of just giving us a proper redemption arc, they put marcy through hellish torture because apparently suffering = redemption. then she's rescued and she just apologizes once and everything is solved. idk, there was a lot of potential with marcy's character that was unutilized.
sasha's character was handled a tiny bit better but it was still a lazy choice to not show her redemption arc at all. she does one good thing, then we cut to anne and the plantars, and when they return to amphibia, sasha is suddenly a hero and everyone has forgiven her already. it just felt off to me but these two characters are definitely still better than catra, which is honestly not a huge achievement, the bar is in the earth's core at this point.
