THE HOLDOVERS 2023
You know, Mr. Kountze, for most people, life is like a henhouse ladder: shitty and short. You were born lucky. Maybe someday, you entitled little degenerates will appreciate that.

i just read an article and apparently jonathan kaplan (who played jason in the falsettos obc and was 11 at the time), watched his voice teacher who helped him through the show's auditions decline and eventually die from aids related illness during the show's previews.
in this same article michael rupert mentioned how there would be patients who came and saw the show and would go to the stage door just to be near the performers and tell them how much the story meant to them.
one day, heather macrae (charlotte) attended the funeral of her friend paul jabra and immediately after went straight to the theatre to perform in the evening show.
stephen bogardus recalls leaving the theatre and walking through the audience (about 15 minutes after the show had finished) and people would still be there holding each other.

As he renews his vow to find the creature that killed her, he has no idea he's being stalked by a silver-haired girl with secrets of her own. Tumblr media
Doughnuts And Doom GN -  Balazs Lorinczi
Being a teenage witch-or rock star-is tougher than it looks! Flying brooms and electric guitars set hearts aflame in this fantastically fizzy graphic novel. One is a stressed-out witch trying to get her potions business off the ground, the other is a struggling rock musician whose band is going nowhere. Neither of them are having a good time! No wonder things quickly escalate from words to literal sparks flying when they first meet. Could this be the start of a delicious new relationship... or is a bad-luck curse leading them to certain doom?
Tumblr media

Will the arrival of a superhero team called the Prestige prove the madness isn't all in Oliver's head? And what about all the epic fantasy crap from his childhood? Join us for a brutal as hell tale of magical worlds, gifted youth, evil sorcerers, superheroes, war, blood, guts, and death that punches you right in the face!

My Body Created A Human: A Love Story GN -  Emma Ahlqvist
A graphic novel style memoir about the weirdness and wonder of pregnancy and early motherhood, told with humor and frankness. Told with black-and-white drawings and short, frank captions, Ahlqvist considers everything from lactation woes, anxieties about late capitalism and global warming, the challenges of sharing labor equally as a couple-and the genuine rewards of bringing a human into the world.

THE HOLDOVERS (2023)
Starring Paul Giamatti, Da'Vine Joy Randolph, Dominic Sessa, Carrie Preston, Brady Hepner, Ian Dolley, Jim Kaplan, Michael Provost, Andrew Garman, Naheem Garcia, Stephen Thorne, Gillian Vigman, Tate Donovan, Darby Lily Lee-Stack, Bill Mootos, Dustin Tucker, Juanita Pearl, Alexander Cook, Liz Bishop, Cole Tristan Murphy, Will Sussbauer and Carter Shimp.
Screenplay by David Hemingson.
Directed by Alexander Payne.
Distributed by Focus Features. 133 minutes. Rated R.
Screened at the 2023 Philadelphia Film Festival.
I saw quite a few films at this year’s Philadelphia Film Festival. Some of them were very good. Others were kind of a disappointment. A couple of them I actively disliked. However, I can say one thing with complete confidence: The Holdovers was the best, most enjoyable film that I saw at this year’s fest. By far.
The Holdovers reunites actor Paul Giamatti and director Alexander Payne, nearly 20 years after working together on their Oscar nominated film Sideways. (It got five nominations including Best Picture. Payne won the Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay.)
The Holdovers may even be a better film than Sideways.
The Holdovers takes place in the early 1970s – specifically the holiday season leading from 1970 into early 1971 – and it feels like a film from that decade, arguably the best ten years of moviemaking in film history. Specifically, this film is reminiscent of the work of the late, great Hal Ashby, who spent that decade making the classic films Harold and Maude (1971), The Last Detail (1973), Shampoo (1975), Bound for Glory (1976), Coming Home (1978) and Being There (1979).
The film takes place in a stuffy old boy’s boarding school in New England. Paul Hunham (Giamatti) is a former student who landed there as a teacher after college. However, he’s been there for decades, and if he ever enjoyed teaching, that was long ago now. He is completely jaded and angry about life and school politics, and he tends to take his bitterness out on his students, which has made him the most disliked teacher on campus.
Every year during the week from Christmas to New Years, the school is closed as the students return home to spend the holidays with their families. The holdovers referred to in the title refer to those few students who have nowhere to go. They must stay on campus under the supervision of one teacher, and the boarding school’s petulant principal has assigned this task to Hunham as revenge for Hunham flunking the child of one of the school’s biggest benefactors.
Also staying to prepare food is Mary Lamb (Da’Vine Joy Randolph), a cafeteria worker who is in mourning for her son, who was recently killed in Vietnam. Therefore the solitude of spending the break at the mostly empty school appeals to her.
At first there are about six or seven boys stuck there, but one of the boys’ rich fathers agrees to take the boys on a skiing holiday. Only one boy is unable to reach his parents for permission, Angus Tully – played by first-time film actor Domenic Sessa, who was discovered in a similar school’s acting program.
Therefore the three of them must try to co-exist over the week.
Professor Hunham and Tully in particular tend to chafe upon each other. (Mary mainly seems to be a peacekeeper.) Tully acts out and Hunham tries with little success to punish him and keep him occupied. However, slowly but surely, they get to know each other a bit and realize that they are more alike than they want to admit. They start to spend a bit of time off campus and learn about each other, coming to have a grudging respect for each other, even kind of (gulp!) liking each other.
I won’t go into the adventures (if you could call them that) that they come to experience in this time when they are mostly cut off from the rest of the world. All I will say is that this is a look at lonely people and losers which manages to be heartwarming without straying into sappiness.
Sometimes certain people – and certain movies – slip into your life with little warning or expectation and they open you up to bigger and better things. The Holdovers is one of those films. I hope you invite it into your lives with open arms.

Noh varr, who’s been in space pretty much since ya vol 2, came to the wedding, but Wanda, pietro, vision and Viv, and the kaplans weren’t invited?doesnt make sense (when they first got engaged there were jokes abou magneto insisting on being invited (since he wasn’t there for his kids bc he wasn’t officially their dad yet) and it would be funny that he wasn’t there if it weren’t bc he was no longer Billy’s grandpa (and hanging out with literal n*zis for some reason) imo but still).
Tumblr media
Well, it's not Kyle and Jean-Paul, or Wanda and Vision, or even Kitty and Piotr for that matter, and it doesn't need to be. It's Billy and Teddy. They're not celebrity superheroes and they're not really members of any major hero orgs. They have a community of people who love them, but that doesn't include every X-Man and every Avenger. The Young Avengers were an independent, sometimes vigilante group who spent most of their time defying authority figures in their main series. Billy and Teddy have their fanboy thing, and there are a lot of random comics where the YA kids seem to be on good terms with the Avengers or are even provisional members; however, they and the Runaways all had a pretty adversarial relationship with the Avengers leaders back in the day, and I know that if it were me writing, the events of Children's Crusade would hve left Billy pretty disillusioned with Cap et al. That's why I really liked the premise of Death's Head and Strikeforce, at least in theory, and it's part of what I find exciting with Empyre-- these characters are outsiders whose methods and agendas won't always align with the main group of "good guys".
Anyways, that was a tangent, but my point is that if these kids were buddy-buddy with so many supers they'd have a suite in the Avengers mansion, not that cramped walk-up that I assume they moved into bc Sunspot's cheque bounced on the Central Park unit. So, who's really invited to the wedding?
The Kaplans, obviously, including whatever extended family we don't know about.
The Maximoffs, including Luna. I assume Wanda would bring Jericho. I'm not sure what Marya's status is.
Vision, Viv, Simon, and hopefully Nadia.
I would like to say Erik and Lorna will come, but I'm still living in partial denial of the retcon.
Teddy's only living family might be... Phylla, if she's alive, and Carol is like an honorary aunt even if they've never been close. We're definitely not inviting R'Kll.
All of the living Young Avengers-- I expect Kate to bring Johnny and America to bring Ramone.
All of the living Runaways-- Nico, Karolina, Molly, Gert, Chase, and Victor (who is technically a cousin!) and XAVIN, if anybody can reach them.
Jessica and Luke, and Danielle of course.
Clint, and Scott Lang.
Stephen, for better or for worse, and Agatha
Doreen! And Roberto, if they can get a hold of him
Any other gay people they might be friends with-- Ric and Star, Anole, maybe Brandon and Julie? And obviously Jean-Paul and Kyle as, like, guests of honor
Loki is invited. Loki doesn’t rsvp. America portals to Jotunheimr, drags Loki back to to New York, and keeps an eye out the whole day to make sure she behaves.
You know who's not invited?
Logan, who has attempted to murder multiple members of the Maximoff family.
Scott Summers and any other asshole on Krakoa who cosigns the Wanda Hate Campaign
Tony's war profiteer ass

The King and I - Brazil - 2010 (Pro-Shot's master) FORMAT:  MP4 (HD) CAST: Tuca Andrada (Rei), Cláudia Netto (Anna Leonowens), Luciana Bueno (Lady Thiang), Bianca Tadini (Tumptim) The King and I - North Shore Music Theatre - September-October, 2011 (Pro-Shot's master) FORMAT:  VOB (with smalls) (SD) CAST: Kate Fisher (Anna Leonowens), Lorenzo Lamas (King of Siam), Lisa Yuen (Lady Thiang), Manna Nichols (Tuptim), Joshua Dela Cruz (Lun Tha), Ron Wisniski (Sir Edward Ramsey) NOTES: Proshot. Performed in the round, one camera on a tripod and sound patched in from the soundboard. The King and I - West End Revival - November 29, 2018 (Pro-Shot's master) FORMAT:  MP4 (HD) CAST: Kelli O’Hara (Anna Leonowens), Ken Watanabe (King of Siam), Ruthie Ann Miles (Lady Thiang), Na-Young Jeon (Tuptim), Dean John-Wilson (Lun Tha), Edward Baker-Duly (Sir Edward Ramsey), Jon Chew (Prince Chulalongkorn), Edward Baker-Duly (Captain Orton), Billy Marlow (Louis Leonowens), Takao Osawa (Kralahome), William Michael Lee (Phra Alack) NOTES: Ruthie uses a walking stick throughout to aid her recovery from a previous car accident and loss of her two children. She gives an amazing performance. King Kong - Broadway - August 10, 2019 FORMAT:  MP4 (HD) CAST: Christiani Pitts (Ann Darrow), Eric William Morris (Carl Denham), Erik Lochtefeld (Lumpy) NOTES: The full show, recorded from the rear orchestra on a phone. Most of the video is the August 10th recording but occasionally some promotional footage and the February 9th video are edited in to provide other views. The recording starts off with a lot of wandering, shakiness, and washout but gets better somewhat better as it goes on. Still not as good as an actual video filmed with a camera, but it exists. 1920x1080p, 4.29 GB. King Kong - Broadway - October, 2018 (Preview) (House-Cam's master) FORMAT:  MP4 (SD) CAST: Christiani Pitts (Ann Darrow), Eric William Morris (Carl Denham), Erik Lochtefeld (Lumpy), Harley Jay (Barman), Rory Donovan (Captain Engelhorn/Chief of Police), Jon Hoche (Voice of Kong) NOTES: Full stage shot with clear audio direct from soundboard. This is somewhat more obstructed than other shows because the person in front was leaning forward and moving a lot, so there's a head in some of the scenes. Some shakiness and wandering in between, particularly at the beginning, but otherwise a good video with nice closeups. Complete show including curtain call. A- Kinky Boots - Broadway - July 17, 2018 (NYCG8R's master) FORMAT:  VOB (with smalls) (SD) CAST: David Cook (Charlie Price), Stephane Duret (s/b Lola), Carrie St Louis (Lauren), Caroline Bowman (Nicola), Daniel Stewart Sherman (Don), Marcus Neville (George), Corey Mach (Harry), Eugene Barry-Hill (Simon Sr.), Stephen Berger (Mr. Price), Adinah Alexander (Milan Stage Manager), Cooper Lantz (Young Charlie), Jesús Del Orden (Young Lola) NOTES: Quite a few latecomers that walk in front but nothing too distracting; otherwise very well filmed HD video with clear picture and sound throughout; great video A Kinky Boots - Broadway - May-August, 2017 FORMAT:  MP4 (HD) CAST: Brendon Urie (Charlie Price), J Harrison Ghee (Lola), Taylor Louderman (Lauren) NOTES: Starts at Sex is in the Heel Kinky Boots - First National Tour - April 17, 2016 (SJ Bernly's master) FORMAT:  VOB (with smalls) (SD) CAST: Adam Kaplan (Charlie Price), J Harrison Ghee (Lola), Tiffany Engen (Lauren), Charissa Hogeland (Nicola), Aaron Walpole (Don), Jim J Bullock (George), Josh Tolle (Harry), Shawna M Hamic (Trish), Horace V Rogers (Simon Sr.), Tom Souhrada (Mr. Price), Zach Adkins (Richard Bailey), Patty Lohr (Pat), Annie Edgerton (Milan Stage Manager), Aidan Passaro (Young Charlie), Jomil Elijah Robinson (Young Lola) Kinky Boots - Netherlands Tour - October 27, 2019 FORMAT:  MOV (HD) CAST: Jonathan Demoor (Charlie Price), Naidjim Severina (Lola), Vajèn van den Bosch (Lauren), Linda Verstraten (Nicola), Dennis Willekens (Don), Paul Donkers (George), Jeroen Phaff (Mr. Price) Kinky Boots - Pre-Broadway/Chicago - November 4, 2012 (Closing Night) (SunsetBlvd79's master) FORMAT:  MP4 (HD) CAST: Stark Sands (Charlie Price), Billy Porter (Lola), Annaleigh Ashford (Lauren), Celina Carvajal (Nicola), Daniel Stewart Sherman (Don), Marcus Neville (George), Andy Kelso (Harry), Jennifer Perry (Trish), Tory Ross (Pat) NOTES: Another beautiful HD capture of the last performance in Chicago before Broadway, where it would go on to win the 2013 Tony. This performance has many changes from the other Chicago Dvd of the first performance. Includes the new song written towards the end of the Chicago run and many line changes. Also includes curtain speech by Stark! Kiss Me, Kate - British Television Production - April 21, 1964 FORMAT:  VOB (with smalls) (SD) CAST: Patricia Morison (Lilli Vanessi / Katharine), Howard Keel (Fred Graham / Petruchio), Isabelle Lucas (Hattie), Millicent Martin (Lois Lane / Bianca), Irving Davies (Bill Calhoun / Lucentio), Eric Barker (Harrison Howell), Danny Green (Gangster / First Man), Bill Owen (Gangster / Second Man) NOTES: This version was rewritten and abbreviated to fit within its 95-minute time slot. A little on the dark side, in black and white with a slight blue tinge, has producer’s counter numbers hard-coded on the screen in the upper third. This version of the show was produced for the launch of a new station in the UK. After months of preparing the launch of the new television station—with it’s brand-new 625 line resolution (until then UK TV’s had a resolution of 405 lines)—the night turned out to be a disaster. 50 minutes before the launch, a fire broke out at a local power station, cutting power to most of London but not the television station. They started the evening’s news show which was to be followed by this broadcast, but it soon became clear that there was no audience, and after a few minutes, the schedule was abandoned. The production was instead shown the next day. The date that’s superimposed on the video is April 20, 1964—the originally scheduled night. It is unclear if this is a fi Kiss Me, Kate - Third Broadway Revival - March, 2019 (NYCG8R's master) FORMAT:  VOB (with smalls) (SD) CAST: Kelli O’Hara (Lilli Vanessi / Katharine), Will Chase (Fred Graham / Petruchio), Adrienne Walker (Hattie), James T Lane (Paul), Stephanie Styles (Lois Lane / Bianca), Corbin Bleu (Bill Calhoun / Lucentio), Mel Johnson Jr (Harry Trevor / Baptista), Terence Archie (Harrison Howell), John Pankow (Gangster / First Man), Lance Coadie Williams (Gangster / Second Man) Kruimeltje de musical - The Netherlands - 2012 (Pro-Shot's master) FORMAT:  MP4 (HD) CAST: Joes Brauers (Kruimeltje)
