Steve and Eddie go through the whole adoption process in 1996, despite how difficult it was to find somewhere willing to help them at all and despite their conflicted feelings on adoption.
The way they saw it though, providing a loving home for a child who needed one was better than the alternative. Eddie had enough experience with temporary foster homes to know stability was better than constant moving and questionable foster parents.
They get a foster placement almost immediately, a six year old girl named Amelia. She’s quiet, but not in a way that worries them. She’s very focused, and enjoys going to school more than any regular children’s hobbies. Neither of them know what to do with that other than keep encouraging it.
She stays for months, months turn into a year, and the agency finally gives them the go ahead to complete the adoption process.
But they don’t do anything without talking to Amelia.
She’s happy there, her therapist signs off on it immediately and explains that Amelia has shown more personality development and less signs of trauma with them than she had even living at home. Not to mention they actually brought her to appointments, unlike her previous guardians.
To celebrate, they throw a party with all their friends and family and tell Amelia she can invite anyone from school she wants. She invites everyone.
Turns out their daughter is a social butterfly and is friends with everyone.
At the party, Eddie pulls out his guitar, plays a bunch of popular kid-friendly songs after a very scathing look from Steve as a reminder to behave.
Amelia walks over to him after a few songs, on a sugar high like he’d never seen on her before, and asks to play the guitar.
He’s hesitant, but not because he’s still protective of his guitars, more because he doesn’t want her to embarrass herself in front of her friends. Kids are cruel, even and especially at seven, and the last thing he wants is this to be the thing that kids talk about for the next ten years.
She sits on the couch and holds it, arranging her fingers…correctly. Eddie watches.
Steve is watching from across the room.
She starts strumming, very quietly at first, not as confident as she’d been a moment ago. And then she starts really playing.
It’s one of the songs Eddie wrote. He played it for the last four months nonstop as he perfected it, and she’d apparently been watching.
Eddie’s jaw is on the floor and he quickly looks over to Steve, who has a similar look of surprise on his face.
He doesn’t interrupt her. She makes it through the entire song.
She looks up.
“When did you learn to play guitar?” Eddie asks.
“When I was watching you.”
“But have you played before tonight?”
Amelia shook her head, looking down. “Didn’t wanna touch it without asking.”
Eddie pulls the guitar from her hands and sets it aside, then pulls her into his lap and hugs her. Steve sits down on the couch next to them, hand on her back.
“You can always ask, sweetie. And if you’re this interested and this natural, we can buy you your own guitar if you want. I didn’t think you were interested in playing.”
“I wanna be like you,” Amelia admitted against his shoulder.
Eddie was done for. He looked at Steve, half-panicked, trying not to cry in front of these people, but Steve wasn’t faring any better.
“Then we can go get you a guitar tomorrow. You can get your own picks, too. They might even have purple ones.”
“Can I have red? Like yours?”
“Of course, sweetie.”
It only took them two days after that to realize she could play by ear, just like Eddie.
And then it only took another day after that to realize she had taught herself to read music too.
They spent hours and hours every week playing together while Steve cooked dinner or checked her homework or just watched them.
When Eddie’s band decided to record another album and go on tour when Amelia was 12, Eddie insisted that she get to be on it.
She ended up helping write one of their songs, played on the track on the album, and with a lot of work, convinced Steve to let them homeschool her for the entire 8 months they’d be on tour so she could perform on stage with her dad.
“Can’t believe she’s not even genetically yours. Are you sure you didn’t have an affair?” Steve asked the night before they were leaving for Europe.
“When would I have had an affair? I came back to the tour bus or hotel with you every single night,” Eddie kissed him softly. “She’s amazing, huh?”
“She is. What happens when she wants to be a full blown rockstar like her dad too?”
“Then we make sure she’s protected and has good people around her like I have. She could be a rockstar easily. She’s got the talent and the presence,” Eddie smiled. “And she’s got me to make sure no one takes advantage of her. But she’s only 12. We’ve got time to worry about that later.”
“You’re bringing her onstage every single night all over the world for the next eight months, baby. I think later is now.”
Eddie sighed. “She’s gonna blow them all away. I’m proud of her. Let’s focus on that for now.”
And she did blow everyone away. The fans and the media had nothing but good things to say, and Steve didn’t have to go into overprotective mom mode at all until she was 15 and signing a record deal of her own.
But between Eddie and him, the entire industry knew better than to fuck with her or them.
They made rules, of course. School still came first, she still had required family events to be at, she still had regular friends at home. She wasn’t allowed at any parties, not even the events for award ceremonies.
But she didn’t really need those rules. She had no interest in parties or abandoning her friends or family, and she was a straight A student who still had hopes of getting into Brown for Journalism like her Aunt Nancy. She had a passion for music and wanted to share it, but not at the cost of the rest of her life.
And Eddie and Steve did everything they could to make sure she got to have everything. That’s what they’d promised her from day one.

The number of times I've seen people argue that Bruce is a decent father and that he is not abusive absolutely blows my absolute mind.
Yes, you can hc whatever version of Bruce you want. You can even blame it all on bad writers or reject canon. You can claim comic!Bruce isn't your Bruce and main a different version of him. Those are all valid.
However, you can NOT say that he has ever been justified for hitting his kids. There is no excuse for him willingly laying his hands on his kids. It doesn't matter if the person is drunk, drowning in grief, lost in emotions, whatever. Hitting kids is not okay.
Continually, the physical abuse is a very obvious sign of Bruce being a shit dad in the comics. On top of that, there is so much emotional abuse and manipulation as well. He's shitty as fuck to his kids and there's no reason this is okay. He may love those kids, but that doesn't excuse his behaviors.
Anyways, reject canon Bruce all you want. There's certain aspects of other characters I reject, and DC stands for Disregard Canon. Feel free to have whatever version of Bruce you desire.
What is NOT okay is excusing or accepting canon Bruce's actions/behaviors as acceptable.

gonna snap one day and run through the halls of media critique screaming A PLOTHOLE IS NOT WHEN THERE IS AN EASILY EXTRAPOLATED AND OBVIOUS ANSWER TO A QUESTION THAT THE WRITERS DID NOT THINK EVEN NEEDED TO BE EXPLAINED OUT LOUD BECAUSE THEY EXPECTED YOU TO USE YOUR BRAIN JUST A L I T T L E

queer characters are allowed to die in media. and it isn’t inherently A Problem or homophobic when they do.
i understand that it hurts seeing queer people die in shows and books and movies, especially if you’re queer and you saw yourself in those characters.
but the thing is, if you want better queer rep in media you have to be ok with queer characters being treated the same way cishet characters are treated. and that means letting them die sometimes.
Bury Your Gays is a problem, I’m not going to pretend like it’s not. but Bury Your Gays isn’t synonymous with every death of a queer character that happens. you’re allowed to be hurt and devastated by a character death, but i don’t think it’s fair to act like that character death is part of some wider issue just because that character is part of a minority group.
not every queer story is sunshine and rainbows with a happily ever after. some queer stories are violent, some are devastating, and people die in some of them. and that is OK.
if we act like queer people can’t die in media we’re contributing to the othering of our community. it’s saying “queer people are this special group you can’t ever do a bad thing to in media because if you do it’s homophobic.” which is not a true statement.
we can’t act like every death of a queer character is homophobic or has capital I Implications about the writer’s opinions on queer people. if we keep pushing that specific narrative queer stories are going to be stifled. writers need to be able to tell the stories they want, even if that includes a queer person dying. and acting like they can’t is doing more harm than good.
you can dislike a writer’s decision, you can stop watching a show because of that decision. that is OK. but you don’t get to go around saying the writer is homophobic because they did something you didn’t like to a character you loved.

thinking on how the jjk anime realizes gege’s art in a way b/w serialization doesn’t, ultimately (imo) elevating it w a lot of movement, color depth & inspired combat sequence animation (tbf also yassifying certain aspects but I’m not about 2 complain)
vs how the mha anime washes out the immense detail & supple line work that goes into hori’s art on the page, ultimately making the animated end product appear less impactful & a lot flatter than the serialized og

Trigun Ramble
Okay so uh, this is kinda random and off topic but I want to know if anyone else feels the same way.
So like…does anyone else in the trigun fanbase randomly get hit with feelings of doubt when it comes to your understanding of the characters, their arcs, and their relationships?
Because for me, I’ll just be vibing and just enjoying like my ships and favorite characters and then suddenly my brain will be like “wait, do I actually understand this character?” Or like “do I actually understand the dynamic between these two relationship?” I always feel bad because I genuinely worry and feel I don’t understand it even though I have consumed every single piece of media of trigun out there. It just makes me feel insecure about creating content (especially fics) because all I think about is how I’m mischaracterizing or not understanding correctly.
It’s gotten to a point where I don’t like reading trigun fics, not because they aren’t good, but becuse afterwards I just feel so conflicted with myself and my understanding of the characters and their complexity…
I know it’s stupid to get so worked up over it, and I know I should just approach it like “who cares if your characterization is right, just do what you want” but it’s just habit I guess…
Anyways, I was just wondering if anyone else gets these random spurts of doubt and like guilt(?)

Mike and Will both would’ve died in season one if someone didn’t save them. They both have dramatic near death experiences that are set apart from everyone else. Will needed cpr when they found him in the library, and Mike actually jumped off a cliff. Those two situations both went far enough that it would have been too late for them to save themselves. And that’s why either of them dying at the end of the story doesn’t make sense. They’ve already almost died. They were already too far over the precipice to turn back by themselves.
Maybe a conclusion to this could be the two of them learning how to live by themselves. In the monologue Mike says that, “[he] doesn’t know how to live without [El].” And while Mike’s just saying whatever he can in that moment, what if there’s truth in that statement? What if he doesn’t know how to protect himself. How to not jump off a cliff and be caught? And Will’s hated accepting help for a while now. But always has to rely on people to save him in the end. Maybe Will’s going to figure out how to protect the people around him- without putting himself in harms way.
Maybe the conclusion to this story is learning how to save yourself. To love yourself as much as everyone else does so you can protect them too. Strength doesn’t come from self sacrifice. Not in this story. Barb, Bob, Eddie- they didn’t run away. They didn’t make sure they themselves were safe. And all their deaths have caused has been pain. Being the hero gets you killed. But trying to live? Will reaching out for his mom when he’s stuck in the Upside Down? She came to find him. Whether they believed her or not. Will was alive, and she went to save him. And when El was on her own in the woods, Hopper put eggos in a box. He took her in, and kept her safe. From everyone- maybe a little too much at times- but he went to her. And he protected her.
But Nancy’s right. “They aren’t little kids anymore.” They’re not going to have someone to protect them all the time. They’re going to have to be strong enough to protect themselves. Strong enough to live. Not sacrifice themselves to save everyone else.
#byler#mike wheeler#will byers#eleven hopper#Mike and Will dying being realistic is a weird argument#because this story isn’t about being factual or a historical account of a collective experience#we already expect queer people to die in media. to be left behind. written off#and in real life we know what can happen#a story is about a discussion#fiction isn’t a factual account of our reality it’s a reflection#and in that reflection is a lot of thought about how this society works#and how people think#and what we want to say#and what we want people to see#the meaning is more important than when the second edition of D&D came out#of what song is allowed to be used because of the timeline#what it’s saying with those elements is what we’re paying attention to#because stranger things is sci-fi and historical fiction#but it’s also being made in the 21st century. so it’s commenting on the 21st century as well#killing queer characters in the 80s? that’s different because for one they’d have to have a queer character on screen#and if they’re dying like mike and Will would be dying it would’ve been revolutionary#but doing that now after the shift in queer rights and marriage rights#would be saying something entirely different#because we aren’t in the same place. it’s more important to show to a larger audience#that queer people go through terrible things AND that we can live and be happy after#and during#we’ve acknowledged the pain#and having queer characters on screen has come a long way in even the last decade#what can be said now is that queer people are in fact people and deserve happiness#not just that they shouldn’t be killing us

I want to watch the Angels of Death anime but I don’t want it messing up my perception of the game. I really love the game, and i dont want how I view it messed up by an adaptation of the game, because I know they removed some scenes from the game and changed the ending a bit in the anime

It is. Horrid that they made all the girls’ outfits tight and sexualized and then made it canon that the girls actually had no say in their outfits looking like that. What the fuck.

i would share my builds but. i’m gonna be honest i just go with vibes. weapon would look pretty with certain character? it’s theirs now. artifacts seem even slightly useful regardless of whether or not they’re the most efficient set? slap those bitches on. i play genshin like i play pokemon: with my favorites and while pressing as many buttons as possible until the enemy dies - teddy anon
OH YOU JUST LIKE ME FR FR
kazuha has the isshin sword even though i have an aquila favonia cause that goes to kaeya who i built because i like him, even when he did lower damage. i run kazuha as a dps even though he’s supposed to be support (i have a p well done diluc that does more normal attack damage but.. kazuha :] and kukis supposed to be like a hyperbloom driver i think but i have her as healer. my baizhu is currently using her set cause i like the burn reaction (w benny, who i still haven’t built properly (just a ton of er for burst stuff) and only use for pyro applications lmao) even though he’s supposed to be like. a sub dps. he and kuki probably work well together but i can’t hear that over the sound of my burst support childe who ran freeze with kaeya for an embarrassing amount of my early abyss runs. i still haven’t attempted floor twelve and unless i get my shit together i don’t think i will. strategy i hardly know her, i just go “unga bunga men pretty” and that got me to ar 57. i have yet to level my mona despite her being a great support (she does have a r5 dragons tales for when i want childe to look pretty against the pyro flower but that’s it) and my xingqiu still doesn’t have good artifacts. my team ‘comps’ are “dps dps.2 sub dps/applicator healer” and i have not strayed from this in my entire time playing. chongyun is objectively bad for my current playstyle but that has not stopped me from trying. i will get a freeze team with him xingqiu and maybe kaeya if it kills me
#m1d : [chats]#teddy anon#woo lotta tags watch out#this got long but i. feel a lot about this game#i have a lot of ’it works’ builds but only like one solid one which is awkward but not the worst thing#‘jack of all trades master of none; still better than a master of one’ right#(i didn’t use my fully built diluc for the longest time except when grinding cryo flower (chongyun) cause i don’t like overloaded)#(i have a kazuha.)#(and regularly cringe when he isn’t on my team)#ngl it’s embarrassing how dependent i am on kaz. he’s not there i don’t know how to get the enemies together. what do.#before him it was heizou and his burst and before that it was aether and his skill/burst#me when anemo amirite (has a lv 20 jean and sayu i haven’t touched in ages)#that’s a lie sayu helps w crystalflies and unusual hillichurls#and diluc does go on both of those trips too#unrelated but there’s a bird like three feet away from me#just. walkin about. you go little guy i hope you get all the worms (it’s well into the afternoon)#unrelated x2 but i have an au for a piece of media i like and it’s so annoying that only i and like one other person know about it. cringe.#please i want to consume fan content of my au but i’m the oNLY FAN IT SUCKS#birds back. hey guy. wanna hear about my [it technically spans three fandoms oh lord] au?#i do think this is a low point in my life#like i’ll go to be judged and the guy’ll go ‘you made these three medias touch’ ‘they hold hands actually’ ‘why’ ‘funny’#what do anime minecraft and marvel have in common? me baby#if there is no god to save you then you must make your own#fun fact i first wrote that like ten minutes ago and got a nosebleed right after#if there’s a god they certainly hate me. and that’s fair

i just wanted to pop in and say that i just started reading penance by eliza clark which i fully found from your recommendation. i am barely 20 pages in and i already love it.
as someone who had a true crime podcast phase and loved in cold blood when i first read it in middle school, i have been reflecting lately about how icky true crime as a genre can be in the way it’s presented and consumed and this book is so far perfectly encapsulating the reality of that (at least 20 pages in lol).
mostly wanted to send this to say thank you for all the lovely book recs you have on here, i love seeing and hearing about what folks love to read
hi omg!! that makes me so happy to hear im glad you’re enjoying it!! i absolutely loved it, think it will be a favourite of this year : ^ ) i think the reflections on true crime are really interesting but also just teenage internet (and particularly tumblr) culture was done so well!! and also just. being a teenage girl in secondary school and the experience of female friendship groups at that age felt so well portrayed even despite the obviously more dramatic elements of the book. i hope you continue to enjoy it!!

Okay so an artist I like will be eventually touring in my country but I didn’t sign up for access for tickets (I think?) so I’m unsure whether I can still buy tickets or not
#starting from the start I had no idea that they were going to be touring in the uk#until a friend sent it to me like some time this week#me being me and in exam mode#I was like I’ll look at this after Friday my last exam#however when I click the link#because my friend was telling me that she was talking to this other girl about this and the process of signing up#also my friend isn’t a big fan so without her I would’ve had no idea#since I literally have no social media except for like YouTube and Snapchat#but even finding out info on YouTube is hard since I turned off notifications for it like ages ago#so this situation is kind of my fault#anyway I digress#but yes so I click the link and it shows that the registration period is closed#I missed it by a day#also I’ve never been to concert so I have literally no idea how this works 😅#so I’m assuming the sign up thing is for pre-sales#which I’m still confused about but I think it’s when you get early access to the tickets before other people#so I’m thinking oh maybe I’ll still be able to get tickets#but now I’m not so sure#but I’m so confused 😭😭#because from the FAQ questions I was under the assumption you could still get tickets without showing interest#since there is a cut off point not a max amount of sign ups so in theory if let’s say everyone signed up it would be the same as not#having the sign up thing#but I think I might not be able to get tickets period#which is okay it is just a concert at the end of the day#I can do other fun stuff#I’m still going to try get tickets#but I’m 99% sure I’ve missed the chance#but it’s okay#gatherrambles#gatherbabblesaboutnonsensicalstuff

“the incalculable loss of twitter” hey
hey
remember when MySpace used to be a thing?
:)
it’s shitty that Elon Musk is single-handedly killing a site. it’s shitty how quickly he’s doing it.
but social media media sites falling in and out of favor isn’t new. it happened to MySpace, to Facebook, to tumblr, and now twitter. Twitter wasn’t even a good platform, it was just what was popular. but any following creatives built on twitter doesnt directly correspond to sales (like. under 15%) or even their actual audience. it sucks rebuilding a following on a new site, but anyone active and sticking with social media will follow a creative. this isn’t a new process, it happens every few years, twitters collapse is just happening faster than typical. but that’s just part of being online, sites go in and out of favor or just die.
yeah, it’s shit it’s happening because of one man’s tantrum as he tries to avoid responsibilities. but it’s seriously not that big of a deal
