Day 11: A dark fic

Sings to Scars by tuesdayspectacular (Fem!Harry/Snape, Not Rated, 156k)

A very dark fic dealing with the heavy topics of sexual assault and mutilation. The author's depiction of those traumatic events is heartwrenching and every word hits true. Snape is the one person in this fic that can understand what Harrie went through, and even though he had a part in it, he chooses to help her heal from it. The eventual happy ending feels very earned. Nothing gets suddenly fixed by magic.

I really love this fic and the story it tells.

Day 12: A WIP you’re following

I love the idea of the Golden trio being in a polyamorous relationship! The way danpuff depicts them being together and happy in a post-war world warms my heart. And then there's Snape. Snape, who is so alluring to Harry. Snape, who is still bitter and mean. Snape, whom Harry cannot stay away from...

I can't wait to see where this fic goes. :D

Day 13: A fic with over 100k words

"Your tears are of no relevance to me" by @hirukochan (Snape/Reader, E, 400k+, still updating)

Mmm, so many words, and they're all delicious. This fic starts as dark smut and develops into so much more. The journey from the first chapter to the current one is a wild one, and one that I deeply enjoyed. Snape is written so well in this fic, with so many layers. So is the Reader. So is Voldemort. All the characters are, really.

This fic has everything. Scorching hot smut, an interesting plot, well-crafted characters, cliffhangers that will make you scream, fluffy scenes that will melt your heart, and it's not even done yet!

Okay, so this is my second most recent bookmark (yes, I'm cheating). This fic features a female Harry named Emma who is a tad darker than her canon counterpart. Things don't go exactly as in canon either, and during the summer before her fifth year at Hogwarts, events happen that leave Emma reeling. The author does a superb job at portraying her psychology. And of course sparks fly between her and Snape...

Day 16: A fic that made you laughed

Aquatic by lary (Harry/Snape, E, 2,4k)

Snape's Animagus form is a penguin. Need I say more? I don't think so.

Day 17: A fic that made you cry

Broken Silence by @witchimagefanfic (Snape/Reader, M, 500k+ with more chapters planned)

This fic made me cry multiple times. The relationship between the Reader and Snape is so well written. There are highs and lows, there are moments of tooth-rotting fluff and moments of vicious, dark tension, and there are moments where I cheered and moments where I cried.

The fic integrates canon events with a deft hand, and the way the plot unfolds will keep you on the edge of your seat.

How many works do you have on ao3?

32, a number that both seems too large and smaller than I thought

254,835. Wild.

3. What fandoms do you write for?

Mostly HP, although once in a while I peek over at other fandoms. And I have a joint Check Please fic in the works.

4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?

All Drarry. None really surprised me but the final one, I hadn't realized it climbed that far up the kudos. Huh. 1. Yours Truly - my romcom fic about Harry feeling left out when everyone's coupled up, telling a lie that gets out of control, and also how hot magical ecology is 2. Home Truths - my Quidditch fic about the complications of fame, love of the game, Harry finding out who his family was and letting himself fall in love 3. Special Affinity - how quickly one can justify fucking one's coworker given a bonding spell while having no idea if the feelings part is reciprocal 4. Winner Takes It All - Draco feeling caught in impossible circumstances, working too much, caregiving for a parent, and how small kindnesses can mean the world 5. A Little Time - mistaken for a couple, forced proximity, Healer school, and everyone in a small town hating you and all your friends on sight

5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?

I love responding to comments, but it takes me a while. I read every single one, and I try to wait until I have the time and energy to respond with something thoughtful. I'm months behind at this point.

6. What is a fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

I'm a fairly happy ending sort of person. I tend to go more for straight angst for drabbles and micros. Maybe Beside Manner? They're formerly bonded and dealing very badly with the dissolution.

7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

Oh, gosh, most of them. I'm most enamoured by the Big Damn Kiss at the end of Home Truths. I love No Distance because Harry and Draco are very much in love and not able to hide it. I am particularly fond of the end of Winner because I was able to leave Draco in a very good place that felt right for the fic.

8. Do you get hate on fics?

Not really I think. I get the occasional rude bookmark rating. Once, a very unpleasant person who sent lots of hate for months over a fairly inconsequential aspect of a fic. And then there have been a few comments where it's clear the reader wanted me to write a different fic, which I don't really take that personally. Nice comments far outweight the negative.

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

Not much. Tender, expressive, evocative. Light on details mostly.

10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?

I am not a crossover person.

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

I don't think anyone has ever tried.

12. Have you ever had a fic translated?

Yes. Two by the wonderful Bluebubbling which I was thrilled by.

13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?

I've always wanted to. I'm trying my hand with another fandom, but one day.

14. What's your all-time favorite ship?

Drarry. It just hits different.

15. What's a wip you want to finish, but doubt you ever will?

I'm one of those people who has a dozens of ideas. I think I'm unlikely to finish my Veela!Harry fic, I just don't think I have the range. I have yet to successfully write and finish a PWP. Would be thrilled to finish some of my rare pairs.

16. What are your writing strengths?

Hmmm. I think dialogue, efficiency, and atmosphere.

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

More complicated or mystery-oriented plots, the mid-level between an ensemble cast and an intimate chamber piece, anything with significant length, spending lots of words on one scene.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?

One of my ideas about writing is that not everything has to be maximally accessible to all to be an authentic expression in a fic. If that's what fits or feels right, go for it.

19. First fandom you wrote for?

You know, I found out the answer for sure recently, and I will be keeping that information to myself. Highly embarrassing and yet formative. Let your imagination do the rest.

20. Favorite fic you've written?

Winner Takes It All. Exactly what I intended, turned out beautifully. Some of my favourite writing.

1. How many works do you have on AO3?

Normally I like to specify "HP Fics" since that's my current mode, but altogether (with other fandoms and meta across other pseuds) I'm at 112! (101 for HP Fics, though! 😂)

2. What’s your total AO3 word count?

689,993 so far!

3. What fandoms do you write for?

Currently just Harry Potter, but I have a few Marvel fics still on my account, under my danvers pseud!

5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?

Heck yes! Though I need to catch up now. It means the world to me that people take the time to leave me their love, so the least I can do is give my gratitude. You have no idea how much a comment makes my day!

6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

Aha hands down this one is so easy: A Matter of Time. I am stupidly happy with how that one turned out, and just how well executed that angst was. Not to toot my own horn or anything!

7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

idk why but my first thought was Orange Blossoms...which is pretty angsty-fluff all told and the ending is hopeful at best. My brain just goes: "that's a happy fic, right?" 😂 But actually I think probably The Curse of Anteros. That one's properly happy, I think, with plenty of angst beforehand to make that happy ending feel well worth it! Though someone is free to correct me, with over 100 fics maybe I lost a happier ending somewhere in there! 😂

8. Do you get hate on fics?

Not often. I did go on a delete-a-spree late 2020 due to some rudeness. One person bookmarked a fic calling my writing "mediocre" and I sorta spiraled. Also I get the odd person leaving weird comments on Collateral Damage for the surprise (background) ship in there. Also the odd person who doesn't read tags on fics that are especially angsty or especially dead dove...idk for all the weird and problematic stuff I write I could get more hate I guess, though I'd rather not!

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

Who me? Nah. 👀 idk, I write whatever tickles my fancy! Oftentimes it's virginity loss cuz that's my favorite. I love big passion and bits of violence thrown in. Idk "what kind" actually means so hopefully that was a good explanation! A bit rough, a bit mean, a lot of passion, and it's probably someone's first time doing something.

10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written?

No, but I want to! I have a HP + PJO crossover I swear I'm going to get to one day!

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Not that I know of and I really hope no one out there steals my fics. I work really hard on them and they mean a lot to me.

12. Have you ever had a fic translated?

A few!

13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?

No but again: I want to! I've had fanart made, and podfics, and translations...the closest I've come is for Snarry Bang and collaborating with an artist, which was The Curse of Anteros with @mrviran!

SNARRY!!!! OTP for 20 years and counting!

15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

Geez. Probably old fics long abandoned on ffnet, but I won't get into those. (Though I'd really like to rewrite and continue/finish Resistance.)

...causing pain? Idk I don't feel I have strengths, but I'm told I hurt people's feelings 😂 I write intensity pretty well I think? I like to think my characterization is okay. idk!

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

All of it. Writing in general. AHEM. Um....fluff? I'm almost curious enough to ask but no please don't tell me my weaknesses, it'll hurt my feelings 🤣

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?

I like it! Adds a bit of flavor imo! But to each their own, y'know?

19. First fandom you wrote for?

Harry Potter! I've only ever written for HP, Marvel (of which a few still exist online), and Stormlight Archive (of which none still exist online). Weird I never wrote for Supernatural, considering how mega into that fandom I was for a while...

20. Favourite fic you’ve written?

Hands down Contempt. I'm still the proudest of that fic. I'm starting to think The Curse of Anteros is better, but Contempt will always have my heart.

I really poured my whole heart and soul into that work. And I still get way too emotional talking about it or thinking about it! And it still blows me away how many people have loved it. I really wanna relisten to the podfic @mrviran did of it and just sob through it! 😂 God I really, really love that fic. I truly do not have the words to express just what that story is to me.

I've seen it twice with 'whoever wants to do it, please feel tagged' so I am taking it as a sign. I also want to tag friends to see their replies, so let's go ~

1. How many works do you have on AO3? 144

2. What's your total AO3 word count? 1,261,968

3. What fandoms do you write for?

Currently Guardian and Weilan Derivatives, I am considering trying Beyond Evil at some point. Before - DC Comics, Yu-Gi-Oh, Star Wars, Harry Potter, from the more notable ones

4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?

This one I already answered many times so I will allow myself to skip it this time.

5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?

I do! I love chatting with people and hearing their thoughts, and responding to them. I met some of my best fandom people like that, chatting under their fics or mine 🥰

6. What is a fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

Ughhh... Erm... that's a tough choice. Do we count stories where both of the characters die as good ending? We do, right?

Then it would be probably When I Make an Oath to the Flames (Guardian) because eternal separation is worse, right? Or maybe In Dreams You Lose Your Heartaches? (Yu-Gi-Oh) I like bad and/or bittersweet endings so it's really hard to choose.

7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

Another good question. How do we quantify happiness? But if we go with the 'I fixed the character's terrible fate and gave them a good ending instead of it' then hmmm... Probably And We Mend Our Broken Wings (Harry Potter) series, because some people not only survived, they even went through a whole redemption arc.

8. Do you get hate on fics?

On fics as such not very often - I had a very notable 'good fic but the ending is so fucking stupid' comment in a bookmark, followed by 'it's great. I HATE it' on a different one, but nothing really, truly mean.

Got a lot of thoughtful feedback about writing, adjusting register to the character's manner of speech or just pointing out some mistakes, and those were usually rather nice and definitely needed.

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

No. No ideological reasons here, I just get bored with writing it, and it always shows when the writer is absolutely disinterested in what they are writing at the moment, so I just don't bother anymore. Fade to Black is my new best friend

10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?

Oh, yes. The entire universe of weilan derivatives is based on crossovers. I enjoy crossovers a lot, provided I see some common points between the two original universes. The craziest one? Hmmmm... I am not sure? all of them are weird in their own right. But let's go with Murders and Mirrors because it features Bai Yu's variety show persona and an Evil Reflection from that one Zhu Yilong ad, all for crack reasons.

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Parts of it copied and inserted into other people's fics, yes, all of it? No, thankfully.

12. Have you ever had a fic translated?

Yes, into Chinese, if I remember correctly!

13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?

Oh yes, and it's the best fun there is when it comes to writing for me!

14. What's your all-time favorite ship?

Hard to choose really. Each time I meet a new ship that compels me, it gets added to the herd and it stays there. But out of sheer intensity of my feelings about this ship and how longterm my love for it is: BatCat

15. What's a wip you want to finish, but doubt you ever will?

I have a Luolin longfic idea that I am not good enough yet to attempt, not if I want to write it well. I would have to get better in many areas and to do lots of research to even try, so I am now just thinking about it fondly.

16. What are your writing strengths?

I would say I am flexible? I try to change styles and registers depending on what genre I am writing and which world/era the characters are, and I find it fun. I also have a lot of things that interest me at any given time so these interests filter through into my fics.

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

White room, I never pay attention to what my characters eat and whether they actually have eaten anything in the span of the entire story, I tend to repeat certain words and not always notice the repetitions during the editing

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?

Sure, let's do it, but I would first ask someone who has greater knowledge than mine, to see if the dialogue sounds like something a person might say and not like an exercise from a textbook.

19. First fandom you wrote for?

Either Harry Potter or Inuyasha, can't remember anymore which was first

20. Favorite fic you've written?

You can't make me pick a favourite child ;_;

Truly, no idea because it changes with time and with how much I've been thinking about this particular fic. I have some that I really liked but now I don't see anything special in them. I've had some that didn't seem special at all, but someone's excited comment made me see it in a very different light and appreciate it more.

Nothing to do with popularity here, just usually I am not touched emotionally by what I write, so someone else interacting with my stories gives me some semblance of feeling some way about them.

My all time favourites are always stories I wrote with someone else, because the story itself is a record of the good times we had together when working on it, plus usually I simply like them better as stories.

25. Have you ever daydreamed about side adventures/spin-offs from your fic? Tell us about them!

I mean. GFDHSJ Y'all see the AU AU AU and alternate reveals and non canon scenarios I come up with, those definitely fall into this category! There's also that one anon asking about promotions that I simply don't want to spoil yet but it's a whole spin-off basically that I'll just drop after exploring it for a bit! I also couldn't stand the angst yesterday after all, so I came up with a little fix it scenario (because yes, I'm fixing death now, I needed them to be happy)

I'm hoping the screenshots are easier to ignore than a whole wall of text, for anyone who does enjoy angst without any comfort! I do actually think that worst case scenario stands well on its own, it isn't supposed to be happy, but turns out death is just a bit too rough for me still and I wanted a happy ending, actually. And, not quite a side story, but no clue when I'll get to it and I am thinking about it an unreasonable amount, post-reveal when HQ finds out that they all know each other's identity, they get a shared mission that kicks off their team of three where Robin poses as someone important with Dusk/ Dawn as their bodyguard, and you just know the tension will be SO tasty. Lingering touches, teases they can't rebuke without blowing their cover, protectiveness upped to the max... For some reason, whenever I think about it, this mission happens on a cruise, but no clue if I'll actually use that FGHDJSK

27. What’s the nicest comment you’ve ever received?

God I am. I am such a sucker for any and all comments, especially those that mention a line I'm particularly proud of, and y'all are spoiling me with those!! Settling on one is pretty much impossible if I go with that standard - so I'm going with an entirely different fandom. I've mentioned my slow burn long fic before, which is currently on hiatus since the hyperfixation on fnaf is too strong rn for other projects, and, well, the entire niche I found myself in before just was much less interactive or even engaging. This longfic has been up almost two years - and within not even three weeks, Accidentally Undercover has gotten more views, comments, kudos, bookmarks, anything - you name it, there's more. I was really disheartened and partly stopped writing because, well, I have my outline to read, and if barely anyone (if anyone) even reads it, then why write more? But a couple months ago, I got a comment - after about a year of hiatus, someone told me they binge-read 113K words in one day, that they love my world-building and character dynamics, and that they would love it if/when I decide to write more again. It was just so nice without being pushy that I sat down and wrote 1.5K words of the next chapter right then. It's still far from done, and the fic itself is in arc 2 of 5 - but that was more than I wrote for it in months at the time! I think of that commenter fondly because for that fic, they were a rarity. For AU y'all are SO good to me, all the comments and interaction really are fueling me, and anyone who gets to listen to me yell on discord knows I'll melt at the positive attention at any given time fghjdks

So Much Better Than Egg Salad Sandwiches

Words: 3565 (wip) Rating: Teen And Up Audiences Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply Relationships: Steve Harrington/Eddie Munson Characters: Dustin Henderson, Robin Buckley Additional Tags: Accidental Baby Acquisition, Pining, Domestic Fluff, Humor, idiots to lovers, Kid Fic, Light Angst, POV Steve Harrington Summary: Steve gets a call from an old one night stand. Eddie just so happens to be around, decides to stick around, and now Steve’s got a whole world of internal shit to work through. There’s also the part about the toddler.

“So what do you think? That can’t be normal, can it?”  

There’s a beat of silence, but then there is a thump. A magazine waterfalls onto the floor. Some ripped open junk mail flutters down after it. A crossword with a pen bookmarked in it, flops clue-up on top of that. 45 down asks for a 10 letter word for terror so deep one is rendered immobile. 

“What was it? Too many basketballs to the noggin?All those crazy ragers at 16? Because some wiring ain’t firing off the way it’s supposed to if you seriously think I’d be anything close to an authority on this, dude.”

Eddie shifts his weight into Steve’s line of sight. Steve crosses his arms and purposefully stares at the crown moulding behind his head.

“And what, you think I’m hosting up seminars down at the Double Tree?” He snaps.

“No, but of the two of us, you’re the one with a resume that’s dirty with nannying.” Eddie says, dipping his head to demand eye contact. 

Steve does look at him then, but only because he wants to see the hurt cloud over Eddie’s face after he flicks him on the forehead.

“Ew. Come on, man, don’t say dirty and nannying in the same sentence.”

“Well aren’t we just a dirty-minded boy this morning?” Eddie grins, rubbing at his new wound.

“No, just a regular-minded dirty boy.” Steve says, and points over his shoulder with a thumb. He can still feel the sticky white crud, crusty and drying down his back.

Eddie peers over him before he steps away and stuffs his hands in his pockets. Steve dares him, with narrowed eyes, just dares him to make a joke about this.

Eddie mmhhmms, fingers covering over his mouth and pulling at his lips in a way that’s meant to conceal his glee, but Steve knows better. Eddie’s body is vibrating. The bastard can barely contain himself. That doesn’t mean he’s going to give him the green light or anything.

“I really don’t think I’m mature enough for this.” Eddie mumbles and buries his face into his hands.

Steve rolls his eyes.

“I know what that sounds and looks like okay, but can we focus—we’re getting off topic. Ideas, any of them, would be fucking neat right now.”

“Alright” Eddie says, sucking in a deep belly full of air and rocking to the tip of his toes. “Have you checked its instruction manual?”

Steve starts to walk away, but Eddie falls back on his heels and stops him by grabbing a fist full of his t-shirt. It’s unfortunate that it’d be the spot that hasn’t dried. Eddie’s face contorts in disgust.

 “What?” Steve rounds on him, “I’m shitting my pants here, but you’re joking around like you’re headlining The Apollo. Just go. Forget I called.” 

“No, look, I’m sorry. It’s just—I’m also very out of my element here.” Eddie says softly. He also wipes his sullied hands on the front of Steve’s t-shirt. Steve closes his eyes and counts to 5.

“I know.” Steve scrubs a hand down his face. “Shit, I know.”

There’s another thwap and what sounds of marbles rolling down linoleum, but is really a tall porcelain vase that stands on the offending side table. Even if they’re no where near it, the pair brace themselves for a quick run and lunge to catch it. They watch widen-eyed and wordlessly as the bottom of it twirls like a top about to tip, before the damn thing finally rights itself. They share a wince. 

“Should we, uh, divert its course? This seems like a gamble and we’re on the wrong side of the loaded die, if you get me.” Eddie suggests.

“Shit, there’s so much glass in this house—what was I thinking?” Steve says, grabbing onto Eddie’s wrist. “God, I can’t do this. Why did I think I could do this?”

Weird Questions for Writers

1 -  What font do you write in? Do you actually care or is that just the default setting?

I’m a Bookman old style girl indeed. As my followers know at this point, I’m a dinosaur aka proud Xennial, generation analogue to digital, from typewriter to cloud. So I went from the first Word programs to what we have now and also had my first office jobs when the whole PC thing was still in its first stages. Everyone especially in business life used Times and Arial and Verdana back then, and honestly, I was just really bored by those. So when I got on my own PC and started transcribing my fanfics from handwritten to electronic, I chose something that was still easy to read but didn’t look like work. And that stuck. I even use that font in my work life whenever I can get away with it. I just really love Bookman old style.

5 - Do you have any writing superstitions? What are they and why are they 100% true?

I don’t think so? Though if it counts, I’ve encountered prophetic writing with my stuff before and that can be pretty creepy. Like, in an entirely non religious way, of course, because I’m agnostic, but like ... visions put in writing. Stuff of my stories that came true weirdly specific in one shape or another later. So there’s that.

11 - Do you believe in the old advice to “kill your darlings?” Are you a ruthless darling assassin? What happens to the darlings you murder? Do you have a darling graveyard? Do you grieve?

Nah, I have a very hard time killing my protagonists. So if it happens at all, you can be sure I’ll find a way to bring them back at some point. At that point when I do kill them off tho, I cry. Like, a lot.

16 - What’s the weirdest thing you’ve ever used as a bookmark?

Nothing strange, I think, I was just one of those sinners as a kid using dog-ears.

21 - Could you ever quit writing? Do you ever wish you could? Why or why not?

Nope, not gonna happen. This is the thing that keeps me alive, and I don’t have any suicidal tendencies these days.

26 -  How do you get into your character’s head? How do you get out? Do you ever regret going in there in the first place?

A lot, I think, with faceclaims when it comes to my own characters. Watching the material I got of the actors in questions, doing moodboards, videos, stuff like that. It was very inspiring for many scenes in the past. Then there’s the good old impersonating them in your head in calm moments like under the shower or when brushing your teeth, playing random scenarios in your head, contemplating how they will react. But in the end, a lot of characterizing only comes when I actually write them.

27 -  Who is the most stressful character you’ve ever written? Why?

I’ve got a lot of anxiety about my current first trans character, especially since the canon faceclaim is no other than Elliot Page. So I’m just really terrified I’ll fuck this whole thing up because it is not my personal corner of queer so I can’t write from experience.

32 -  What is a line from a poem/novel/fanfic etc that you return to from time and time again? How did you find it? What does it mean to you?

I’m more prone to movie lines than book quotes tbh, and poetry is not my world. I can cheat here though, since movie is based on a book, so Imma go with PS, I love you here.

“You made my life. But I'm just one chapter in yours.“

I’ve used that sentiment two times myself, in the two longest fanfiction projects I made, one of which I’m working on right now, and it’s breaking me every time.

And from the same movie (there’s reasons I can’t sit through this without crying):

Also something I used before in stories, and a thought that sometimes help.

I know the world is in a rapid spiral down and missing a wing but, you have to admit we live in amazing times.

When I was my kids age and I got the bug to learn something I had to wait. I had to find the information in the very extensive library my folks had, and still have to this day. I'd have to dig through the Encyclopedia Britannica's, TIME Life books, the yearly historical annuals they had and so many more, I might have to hit the public library or the school's library to get more.

I'd take notes, I'd bookmark pages, build and image in my head from the text I had had my face buried in for hours and days to scratch that "need to know itch". And when I had learned what I wanted to know, chased all the threads, down all the rabbit holes I was fulfilled.

But just now, I wanted to know more about Operation Watchtower, the Guadalcanal campaign so I typed it in and at speeds faster than my mind can understand I have everything one could want to know.

Information about both sides, troop strengths, who was in charge of each side, numbers of vehicles, aircraft and ships lost, down to the name of each person killed. I can look up what weapons were used. I can get detailed maps for each sides Naval and ground movements. I can read every “Armchair” analysis written in the last 70 years. I can look up information on any of the 20 different battle phases, on one screen while also learning about Japanese General Hitoshi Imamura.

OH man this rabbit hole was a cool one.

Japanese General Hitoshi Imamura was the Japanese Ground Commander, under Japanese Marshal Admiral (Gensui) and Commander in Chief of the combined Japanese Fleet until his death. General Imamura was tried by tried by an Australian military court at Rabaul from 1–16 May 1947 for war crimes and the war crimes committed by those under his command. One of those crimes included  the taking prisoners captured in eastern Java where they were locked up in bamboo cattle cages and thrown overboard into shark-infested waters. He was sentenced to 10 years in prison, he would be released in 1954 from Sugamo Prison in Tokyo. General Imamura said after his release that his punishment was to light for the crimes he committed. Because he felt guilty, he had a replica of his prison cell built in his garden where he lived until his death in 1968. 14 year old me is freaking the hell out right now. I mean holy shit I would not have known 1/10th of the information I just learned in 2 hours were we still bound to books on hand. Sometimes it blows me away thinking about how much access we have to, well, everything. How long would it have taken someone to get all this information in 1960, 70, 80, and even the 90’s? We live in very cool times my friends.

And now for something completely different...

While I was cleaning out old bookmarks on my desktop I found the page that made my shop go sort of viral.

Back in early 2019 an item from my shop was included in one of those cringe gift guides you can find on the internet. At the time I was bewildered as to why my sleepy little Etsy which only ever garnered maybe a dozen visitor weekly suddenly had a few hundred in 24 hours. This flood of people continued for a few days before dropping off to eventually going back to my normal trickle. I am aware that this is the small end of what "going viral" can mean for a small business, but considering how niche and tiny my business is, a few hundred visitors was huge for me. Also it was pre-covid, the world was different then.

I should mention I only made two sales from that surge, of all the hundreds of people finding my shop...two sales. I'm not complaining, I appreciate all sales I get, but it should demonstrate to people that exposure doesn't always pay the bills.

Anyways it took a bit of sleuthing but I finally found the source of this small surge, the culprit? Buzzfeed.

My shop if featured as No. 16, a choker that I had on my site for years before it was featured on this guide. It's one of the two things sold btw.

I still find the title of this guide rather amusing, mainly because even before this guide came out I had several family friends, who upon learning what my small business is and its heavy inspiration by Victorian customs surrounding death and mourning told me they considered it "morbid and creepy as hell". everything comes full circle.

I have since in the last year or so tried to expand my influences/inspirations a little bit, not because of the criticism, but to introduce more things in the shop and maybe appeal to more than three people on the internet. Also I'm going through a "goth granny in the wood who befriends cryptids and forest animals" phase right now, so...expect more weird mash-up pieces from me in the future I guess.

Anyways, I just though I'd share this little memory with everyone. I know its a bit different from my usual posts, but idk I just felt like sharing it.

3. What is your writing ritual, and why is it cursed?

My writing ritual is nonexistent. I write whenever I can snatch motivation, and I write whatever that motivation wants to work on. Unfortunately that means writing can be very hard and not happen for a while.

16. What's the weirdest thing you've used as a bookmark?

Not weird, but memorable. I had a notecard that on one side, one friend wrote all the lyrics to the Pina Colada song, and on the other side, a different friend drew a comic for the "leg so hot. hot hot leg. leg so hot it fry an egg". Used that for a while as my bookmark.

19. Tell me a story about your writing journey. When did you start? Why did you start? Were there bumps along the way? Where are you now and where are you going?

Got this in another ask as well, so I'll split up the answer. For the first part, I started writing in middle school. I was writing my own original story at the time (and I still have the binder for that somewhere). But in the "breaks" between working on that, I wrote some self-insert oneshots. This was before I knew what fanfiction was. Never shared these with anyone, and I'm pretty sure most of these were lost in the data transfer between laptops over the years. But I started writing those because I read so much so quickly and got so absorbed in the stories and characters that they really were a big part of my life. So much that it felt natural that if these characters could be in my life, who's to say I couldn't be in theirs. I stopped writing those kinds of stories when I got into the world of fanfiction. Saw one too many posts bashing self-inserts and ocs and self insert ocs. But lately I've been creeping back towards that kind of writing. Worm is kind enough to let me poke at their oc, and I've been working on the Too Many Links AU, which is oc adjacent? Been having fun with those, so there's that at least hgfdsjhk

47. Texting the incorrect number but continuing the conversation.

“You got all that, right?” Shinsou asks, readjusting his stance, so others can leave their classroom door easily.

Midoriya hums absentmindedly. He’s still quickly jotting down the last few digits onto his planner. “And, you said tomorrow morning, around 7? At the library?”

“Yeah,” Shinsou shrugs, “Or anytime really. The deadline isn’t until next month, you know.”

“I kinda just want to get it done, as soon as possible.”

Shinsou breathes out a snort. “Figured you’d say that much. Just make sure you got my number. Repeat it, if you need to.”

“No time.” Midoriya drops his bag to the side, shoving his now closed notebook inside. “Thank you! I’ll text you later tonight!” He offers hurriedly, before taking off down the campus halls.

Shinsou’s warning falls deaf to his rushed mind.

He has to run the entire way, in order to graciously catch the last bus for the hour. Sweaty and flushed, Midoriya slumps into his seat in relief. Fortunately, he was able to cop a seat for himself, settling by the window and his backpack right next to him.

Staring out, Midoriya tries to remind himself of the rest of his priorities he needed to do.

He still needed to start on Doctor Chiyo’s online Physiology exam, and gather his notes for the open book portion. It was a bit bothersome to handle tests online, but if the rest of class prefers it, there’s nothing Midoriya can do about it.

Speaking of which, Ochako had requested for copies of those exact same notes, since apparently she barely writes anything during lectures. He wants to suggest to her to just simply take better notes, but alas, he will gladly help her out.

And, finally, Midoriya has to collect reliable, approved research articles for his and Shinsou’s debate, in their argumentative project in Communications. Being assigned “PRO SOCIAL MEDIA INFLUENCE”, while being the most uninvolved people on the internet, Midoriya and Shinsou had a lot of work to do.

Not to mention it was already 18:00 by the time he reached the school’s dormitories. And yet, he needed to shower, make dinner, water his plants, and watch the newest episode of his favorite drama, airing tonight.

University was eating him alive.

Thankfully, he’s able to complete half of his list.

He finishes the exam with a 98%, and quickly snaps the pages of his notes over to Ochako and Iida, making sure to highlight the main topics questioned in the exam. Ochako sends a ‘thank you’ gif, and Iida texts a long, yet endearing message of gratitude.

Midoriya doesn’t have time to shower, instead blasting the TV volume loud, as he waters his indoor plants at the same time. He overwaters them a little bit, busy glancing back at the screen for too long. But, at least he’s able to watch the episode. He pouts when it ends on a cliffhanger, almost drowning his bonsai tree in frustration.

He’s only able to warm up a plate of leftovers, and read through only one research article, by the time it’s already blinking 21:30 on his phone. Sighing, Midoriya closes his laptop and grabs his cell phone instead.

An all nighter wasn’t preferable. But, if Shinsou is working overtime at his late night job, Midoriya supposes he can stay up and keep looking through more articles, until he has at least the required ten.

Flipping open his planner, Midoriya inputs Shinsou’s number into his phone. He adds his name, a contact photo of him sleeping, and finally taps a quick message.

(21:38) < You working?

When Shinsou doesn’t respond right away, Midoriya simply sets aside his phone on his desk. Stretching his arms, he sighs in defeat, now expecting Shinsou to be stuck at work.

He’s never worked at a restaurant, but he bets Friday nights can get pretty busy. And, Shinsou always complains that group outings and dates tend to stay over, even after the place is supposed to close. And, Midoriya trusts his word.

So, by the time his phone dings, Midoriya has been clicking through more articles on social media, bookmarking a few to go over later, as he went.

He lifts his phone, and with a bright screen, a message stares back at him.

shinsou hitoshi (21:58) > Who’s this

Oh, he did forget to specify. But, Midoriya smiles, having a small prank in mind. There was no harm in teasing his friends, let alone Shinsou, who definitely needed a good laugh, now and then.

(21:58) < It's the cutie from your communications class ;)

shinsou hitoshi (21:58) > So, no one

(21:59) < Haha! I guess you’re right about that

(21:59) < Anyways, it’s Izuku! You still working late, Hitoshi?

shinsou hitoshi (21:59) > This ain’t Hitoshi

Midoriya's face drops, blinking. Oh god, did he mistype the number?

(21:38) < Wait, you’re not???

Another text pops up, shortly after.

shinsou hitoshi (22:02) > You got the wrong number

Embarrassment burning his entire face red, Midoriya wishes he could delete himself from the world.

(22:03) < I’m so so so so sorry!

(22:03) < God, I thought I wrote down my friend’s number right

(22:03) < But, I was in this stupid rush to get on the bus that I didn’t make sure

(22:04) < And, listen, if I had missed that bus, I would’ve had to wait

(22:04) < Not like a few minutes wait

(22:04) < Like, a whole two hours wait!

shinsou hitoshi (22:05) > I didn’t ask

Deleting the conversation, Midoriya erases the new contact completely. And instead, he looks back to his planner, and retypes the numbers in his phone onto a new conversation.

Hopefully, he has typed the correct series of digits.

(22:07) < Hey, Hitoshi! It’s Izuku

unknown (22:08) > ...

unknown (22:08) > What the actual fuck

unknown (22:08) > You've still got the wrong number, you goddamn idiot

Slamming his phone onto his desk, Midoriya grabs a pillow off his bed and shoves it in his face. The temptation to scream sounds awfully pleasant, but it’s too late at night to do so. His dorm neighbors would definitely wonder what the hell is wrong with him.

What’s wrong? Oh, he has completely done one of the most dreaded imaginary scenarios in his head; text a complete stranger. Twice.

What was he supposed to do now? Never text back? Delete it? Block it?

How is he supposed to contact Shinsou now?

His phone dings again.

Lifting the pillow off his face slightly, Midoriya eyes his phone warily from his swivel chair.

That definitely wasn’t supposed to happen. Another text from the same stranger sounds a bit unheard of.

After a seconds-long hesitation, Midoriya lifts his phone and opens it once more.

unknown (22:13) > You can fucking wait the two hours, dumbass

Midoriya grows a little irked. He has a bad feeling that his stranger isn’t too friendly, to say that least.

There was literally no reason to text back something so rude.

unknown (22:16) > Pretty much

Midoriya desperately needs to call it a night.

After going through his nightly routine, he slips under his bedsheets, exhausted. He sets an alarm for 5:00 on his phone, hoping Shinsou will show up at the library, regardless of the missing confirmation text on Midoriya’s end.

He keeps his phone on awhile longer, swiping through his professors’ emails, before a surprising text notification pops in front of him.

The rest of the night, Midoriya hears his phone go off, but he doesn’t bother to open the messages. Fortunately for him, the time staying awake quickly catches up to his body, the moment he shuts his eyes. And, in an instant, he falls asleep, heavy.

My com buzzes again, more insistently this time. I sigh, closing the chest lid behind me as I reach for it. I wonder what bonkers scheme the rest of the server is up to, though it's probably just an advertisement for something. It’s always advertising these days. I look down at the com screen, expecting to see a generic clickbait message for a new minigame or quest. Instead, my eyes go wide as the universally recognizable symbol of the Devs flashes in white on the screen. …What. The actual hels. 

I close my eyes for a moment, squeezing them shut before tentatively looking back at the screen, half convinced I imagined the infamous stamp of Mojang. Mojang. Contacting me. Okay. Okay! That’s normal. This is fine. 

My claw hovers over the slowly rotating symbol, hesitating before I take a deep breath and tap it. Soft music and the low murmur of voices comes out of my com’s speaker and I quickly grab my headphones to hear it better. I make a mental note to get my speaker fixed.

My com displays a sky blue background with the words MINECRAFT NOW front and center. Underneath that is a countdown clock ticking away slowly from 640 ticks and black text reading “NOT ACTUALLY STARTING NOW. BUT VERY SOON!”.

OKAYOKAYOKAY so- This is from my latest WIP called "And Now, The Universe" which is basically two of my Minecraft OCs watching the first episode of Minecraft NOW. It popped into my head after I watched the April episode and thought about my headcanons for how Mojang works and how Players see them in-universe (and that is a whole 'nother fic WIP-) and BAM. Quirky all-powerful pantheon of Deities; Mojang + Iskall85 deciding to livestream to show their Players what they're working on!!!! I am so excited to write the rest of this Andi you have no idea- *vibrating*

Oh right the backstory heh: This takes place in one of the houses on the Hive, a Bedrock minigame server. Since the Hive is the biggest Bedrock server(?) and it has houses, I headcanon it to be a sort of hub for Players, a pit-stop between worlds. Since some Players need to stay here for longer, be it because of an injury, banishment or simply a place to crash for a night, the Admins offer open housing to those who need it. All they ask is that you a) aren't a prick to your housemates and other server members and b) you play at least one Hive game every two days of your stay. The POV, Calliope (who actually has another fic about her! Also WIP), is staying there with her roommate (name pending) while her friend sets up a server for their friends.

so i found my mother’s copy of the jw (new world translation) bible and i decided to yoink that shit for disposal but not before i realized there is a lot of lines highlighted in the book from when she was being manipulated by the jw lady that convinced her to do “bible study” for years. and what do you know if the lines the lady had my mother highlight weren’t the same lines that jws use to justify their cult beliefs! all the lines are cherry picked, no actual study, just the lady manipulating and priming her to accept their beliefs by presenting so called “biblical proof.” so here is some of the things that stand out before i finally rip this thing to shreds and through it away.

literally the whole book replaces every instance of the tetagrammaton with “jehovah” because they want people to believe its been “removed from the bible thousands of times because they don’t want you to know the true name of god”. the whole thing is translated with an agenda to make them look right and everyone else wrong and to make people believe they have some secret hidden knowledge (they don’t they’re liars). putting this under a read more because its very long.

heavy TW for everything related ro religious trauma, the jehovah’s witnesses, bible passages and christianity. incredibly long post. i plan on burning the jehovah’s witness copy of the bible, no joke.

the imago dei part of genesis to try and convince her that humans were super special to god

genesis chapter 3, the serpent convincing eve to eat the fruit of knowledge so that she would accept their version of the original sin doctrine and that women are cursed

chapter where cain kills abel to convince her that this was the first murder in human history (obviously incorrect)

highlighted the part where god kills everything on earth with a flood to groom her into expecting god to do it again later and seen as fair and just and part where god “gives” noah every living creature (because fuck other organisms apparently)

part of leviticus where (in their version) theyre like “no soul must eat blood” (what the fuck) to justify not allowing life saving blood transfusions

deuteronomy part about “jehovah being one” to justify being non trinitarian (they don’t believe jesus is god or that the holy spirit is god, this is meant to lure people who are already christians away from their denoms and into theirs)

“thou shall not kill” is highlighted for some reason and i don’t know why

highlighted job 1:12 to emphasize that they believe satan is in control of the world because god allows it and job 26:7 that has a note saying “the earth hangs there” when talking about sheol to convince her of where earth is relative to “heaven” and using a bunch of “face of the waters” creationist language to make it vague as possible. job 27:5 to make her believe that “no one is righteous” and that saying so is sinful

part in psalms that assures that “wicked people will be no more if you just wait a little while longer” (this is the apocalypse imminent narrative they use to groom people with fear of dying or leaving but also to get them warmed up to the idea of mass death). “the righteous will inherit the earth and live forever” narrative so they believe that jws will live on earth forever after being resurrected while everyone else (whos not a jw) is killed by god

psalms 91 to drive home the fact that these people think theyre invincible in every meaning of the word, to natural disasters and disease etc

proverbs 6 part about “false witnesses”. jws believe that three jehovah’s witnesses have to be present to verify that a crime (like domestic or sexual abuse) actually happened or the governing body and elders don’t care. literally. the “false witness” narrative is used against survivors and people they want to silence in their organization and emphasizes how much jehovah hates “false witnesses” aka people brave enough to talk and victims

proverbs 12:18 about “wise and unwise tongues”, basically anyone that speaks out against the jws are “unwise” and harmful

proverbs 22 about raising children (”train up a child”, if you don’t know it already this is a child abuser dog whistle) that implies that indoctrination will last until adulthood if done right. this is especially bad because this copy is from the early 2000s when i was in kindergarten. this woman had been lurking on us since i was an infant.

proverbs 27 about how neighbors near is better than brothers far away. the implication here is that fundamentally family who aren’t jws don’t matter

ecclesiates 5. i genuinely think its warning people to not ask too much of god or risk his anger, thats the vibe im getting here because the wording is confusing as fuck

isiah 40:22 trying to hammer in the notion that god is greater than anything especially “worldly” governments (except the governing body ofc /s). isiah 43:10 the “you are my witnesses” to justify the name “jehovah’s witnesses” and shoehorn the idea in

daniel 2:40, the idea of an indescribable kingdom, the whole kingdoms in the “last days” conspiracy they use to convince people the “last days” are coming

matthew 4:8 where jesus is persuaded by satan by offering every kingdom on earth. the point in text is “don’t worship anyone except god” but the point of the jws is that nothing on earth actually matters

matthew 6:9 (nice), the our father, meant to make the reader to ask god to hasten the kingdom of god or as we ex-jws know hasten the apocalypse and the death of people they dont like

matthew 16:24, meant to convince people to leave everything behind and join the jws, “disown yourself” aka “die to yourself” toxic bullshit repackaged

matthew 19:9, to convince people that divorce even in instances of domestic abuse is wrong because the governing body won’t allow it and loves to control women

matthew 24:4-14, “anyone who doesnt speak for the jws is a false prophet” and warms people up to the notion that war is necessary; also that evidence of war is a sign of the “last days” and that this is supposed to be good news. ongoing war and the hope for global genocide is “good news” to them.

matthew 24:21. this one is meant to make people feel the apocalypse could happen at any time and to be afraid of it, a great war is coming and only the “chosen ones” (jehovah’s witnesses) will survive when everyone else dies. there’s a paper bookmark on this page. makes me wonder.

mark 8:34. the “die to yourself” bullshit, the idea that the cross was a “torture stake” because jws believe that wearing crosses is idolatry and they want other people to believe their quirky beliefs so they accept heavier things

matthew 10:28, “anyone who follows jehovah and jesus will literally live forever!” but also that “no one is prepared to leave their family for jesus and thats shameful because you should want to sacrifice your entire family!”

mark 11:24 “anything you pray for earnestly you get”. this is spiritual bypassing btw. and :25 “ask for forgiveness and be automatically forgiven no matter what you did” is also fucked

matthew 15-23: jesus (almost) gets wasted while being crucified etc, not sure why this one is highlighted unless im missing some jw bullshit here

luke 20:27. don’t understand this one but they’re threatening “heavier judgement” on people

john 5:28, promising resurrection through jesus after people die but only for the Good tm people (the jws)

corinthians 6:9 (nice but not so nice this time) “anyone we don’t like won’t inherit the earth” translation: anyone we don’t like won’t survive the apocalypse thats definitely happening soon so always be afraid. “homosexuals” are changed to “men kept for unnatural purposes for this one.” still homophobic.

corinthians 7:6, the idea that everyone has a gift that needs to be exploited and used by the jws

corinthians 15:33. “don’t participate in any activities with any outsiders because it will lead you away from jehovah!! fun is ‘drunkenness’, you’ll loose your resurrection if you do!! non jw people are bad influences!!”

2 corinthians 7:1. your body and flesh is defiled, you need to be cleansed in order to be good

galatians 5:20. “having human emotions is sinful! struggling is sinful! being angry is sinful! having a bad day is sinful!” basically that being human is inherently wrong or something

ephesians  3:14. tries to make people believe everything is owed to god only and that obedience is good so they fall for cult power structures later. 4:28 here is just the top of the page being labeled “new personality” and thats all we need to know about indoctrination and cult personality vs actual personality. also “let not the sun set with you in a provoked state” being used against people still angry about being wronged and hurt by others and its been used against me a lot of times

ephesians 6:4. make sure the jw fathers provide the most discipline to children, literally uses the phrase “mental regulating of jehovah”. it couldn’t be more cult like at this point.

timothy 5:8 makes people believe that men alone are expected to provide and if they don’t they’re worse than “those without faith”. no pressure though!

timothy 6:19. wants people to neglect everything actually happening in favor of the “real life” (”eternal life”) instead and to constantly prepare for that instead of actually living life. dedicate your whole life to jw activities

titus 2. women need to be subjects to their husbands but also homemakers, live to glorify their husband, chaste and definitely not mentally ill or showing any symptoms. what the fuck is titus i never heard of this shit until today.

hebrews 1:7-14, trying to convince people that angels live to serve god but also has some superseccsionist/replacement theology (antisemitism) vibes going on

james 2:23, wants people to believe that god “putting people to the test” is actually a way to become “jehovah’s friend” and that being put to the test (read: suffering) is actually a good thing because it primes them to accept suffering as their fault later on. james 4:7 “everything evil will vanish if you rebuke it long enough!!”

peter 3:9 the “god’s timing is always right” gospel bs and encourages people not to do things themselves but to wait and also that jehovah will be on time when its time to start another global genocide. how encouraging! peter 3:13, the same “end of world near” scare tactic, “new heavens new earth” promise to eradicate everyone the jws dont like as that is jehvoah’s “promise” to the witnesses

1 john 3:8, their version of the original sin doctrine, the devil is the source of all evil scare tactic etc

short detour: every instance of “servant” is replaced with “slave” in this version. it makes me feel ill.

revelations 7:16, wants people to believe that god will take away all their pain and that they won’t need food or water to survive anymore (bullshit). also the jehovah’s witness 144,000 chosen people bullshit is here too but not highlighted

revelations 12:7-13, a depiction fo michael drop kicking satan and the implication that satan has always been in charge and not god because they want people to believe that. also that the devil will fall to earth and try to eat jws

revalations 14-4: virgins get dibs on heaven and god i guess. i dont know what the fuck is going on. 14:6 an angel yelling fear god from above, probably where the jws get most of their apocalyptic imagery from that they use to scare children into believing they could die at any minute

so now that we finally got to the end of that mess, their version of revalations ends with jesus saying “yes, i am coming quickly” and “may the undeserved kindness of jesus christ be with the holy ones.”

joking aside, everything highlighted in this copy of this book has been used against me and my mother for years and is a huge part of the reason i have religious trauma now. everything she was told or encouraged to highlight aided jehovah’s witness indoctrination and propaganda, her own indoctrination and eventually mine which apparently started even earlier than i thought.
