NECESSARY BUG FIXES

Hi! I've been contacted by a developer for XKit Rewritten (@transienturl) regarding some bugs for both XKit Rewritten and for uBlock Origin, and it would be irresponsible of me to not promote this integral information after my post has begun rapidly circulating Tumblr from both this blog and my main blog.

Before going through this, please refer to the developer's original post here for more information.

Regarding uBlock Origin, some, or even many of you, are going to be experiencing some problems with your pages after the recent rollouts of element removal thanks to a funny little code element called:

:nth-of-type(n)

What exactly is wrong with this? Well, just like in math, n here represents a variable number, which is filled in by the number present with the parentheses following it.

What this does is it tells uBlock Origin to count the elements in order, and remove specifically the nth iteration of it. How could this be a problem? I'll give you an example.

For our lovely developer, TumblrMart is present as:

www.tumblr.com##li.g8SYn.IYrO9:nth-of-type(7)

Whereas for myself, it's:

www.tumblr.com##li.g8SYn.IYrO9:nth-of-type(9)

This means that our uBlock Origin iterations are going to be looking at completely different elements, and consequently removing different elements entirely.

For this section specifically, ##li.g8SYn.IYrO9 refers to the left sidebar containing the Home, Explore, Live, Activity, Messages, Inbox, Account, Settings, TumblrMart, Get a Domain, and Go Ad-Free tabs.

The solution for removing TumblrMart?

instead of using www.tumblr.com##li.g8SYn.IYrO9:nth-of-type(9), the dev suggested:

www.tumblr.com##.gM9qK > li.g8SYn.IYrO9

Which will target TumblrMart without the prior error. Now, if you do just this, on my own page, this removes the entire left side except for Activity and Messages, so it's my responsibility to find and provide the full list of changes.

I'm also going to provide the alternate way to remove TumblrMart down here, which I feel is prolly the safer option.

for a while there i was sympathetic to tumblr because of how much they’re in debt; i was kind of like “well of course they’re absolutely desperate for new users, they literally need the money or else tumblr goes down forever”. and then suddenly today it hit me that there’s actually no fucking reason for that debt to be causing these ui changes? the userbase has been INCREDIBLY clear about what they want from tumblr over the years, not to mention clear about the fact that even twitter people don’t need this place to look like twitter. it actually would be very… EASY? for them to just make changes in a direction people would actually be HAPPY with?

for fuck’s sake there were people trying to organize a “crab day” for tumblr despite tumblr doing nothing but telling us to go fuck ourselves for months on end. there were people spending hundreds of dollars on check marks just for the glee of MAKING FUN of twitter. can you IMAGINE how much money this userbase would donate to tumblr if they actually made ui updates geared toward what people have been asking for?

if tumblr actually crowdsourced ideas or even just LISTENED to their userbase it may have been possible for them to make way more money than they’re begging for now, they just insist on trying to drive their actual demographic and loyal userbase out for literally no reason

Tonight I learned that my 20 yr old partner has never played chess and doesn't know how to play chess. This is mind boggling to me. They claim its not weird for people to not know anything about chess so I. I need to see. Please.

Okay so, I made a mistake in not elaborating the meaning of the options. You do not have to be good or know what you are doing in the slightest to pick that you have played before. The middle three options are for your understanding of the game having never played it at all. The reason there's a percentage on the last option is because my partner made a tumblr so they could pick it because they think they are hilarious.

I just made a new sideblog and found out this setting (found under "Edit Appearance") (now found under "Blog Settings") is disabled by default.

Edit: Tumblr settings are unpredictable and devious. This may not be disabled by default for you. People have also said that their themes have been removed. Please look to the notes if experiencing complications.

This means that ALL new blogs will NOT have a [username].tumblr.com page. Not only that, but they will not have any themes besides the mobile-default.

As someone who really likes custom themes and Tumblr still having a fully customizable profile page, please turn this on!

You can make a website for your tumblr blog that is entirely your own!

Finding posts on your URL.tumblr.com page is much easier due to the ability to use your Archive and url.tumblr.com/tagged/[tag] pages!

Visiting your mutual's tumblr pages will become much more fun if they do the same! I used to always associate blogs with the themes they had, but that's sadly not possible anymore :(

If Tumblr themes die out, it will truly be an end of an era for the internet, and the future will hold only mobile-orientated, endless-scroll design devoid of personality.

Even if you don't like themes, this is a move that almost destroys Tumblr's origin as a blogging website and showcases the takeover of social-media-sameness.

Having your own URL and custom theme is fun! Try it today!!!

Edit: I focused on promoting custom themes but I do encourage people to simply turn on this setting for the URL. You can pick a free tumblr theme or even leave on the tumblr mobile-orientated default!

Also sorry I didn't think of this until now, but there are versions of this post in the reblogs without the colored text, with extra information, with how to find this setting, and troubleshooting why it might not be working!
