As someone who graduated w/ a humanities degree I want to let fellow humanities people know that
you’re not a failure for not having your dream job straight out of college/university
if it takes a long ass time for you to get that job, it’s normal
some of these people will say very unhelpful, un-uplifting things and you gotta ignore them
I don’t want to get too vulnerable, but I don’t have any comments about the light at the end of the tunnel. I just hope we all get through there.

I just finished reading Covering Islam: How the Media and the Experts Determine How We See the Rest of the World by Edward Said. I feel like the world really hasn’t changed much from 30-40 years ago. This is the second sociological(?)/scholarly book I read written in the 80s or 90s that describes how people act. Like nothing’s changed. Anyway, I think it’s important to read during the time we find ourselves in now to prevent us from spewing more Islamophobia. Plus, Said’s language is easy to get through.

Happy new year! Bonne année!
I started reading Braiding Sweetgrass by Robin Wall Kimmerer. I got it as a gift a few months ago and thought it would be nice to start the new year learning more about NE indigenous folks. It’s very good imo. Read it if you can :)
Blog update: I graduated from uni last month, so I won’t have a lot of study/bujo content. I won’t use this account a lot as usual but I’d probably post language stuff. I need to maintain my French 😅

I just finished reading House of Gold by Natasha Solomons, and whewww it is an emotional rollercoaster.
I love historical fiction, so I had to get this when I saw it was on sale at an independent bookstore. It’s a fictionalization of the Rothschild family in the years leading up to/during World War 1 and focuses mainly on a female protagonist who moves to England for her arranged marriage. The Rothschilds are a prominent Jewish banking family that became successful in the 1800s in Europe with different branches of the family in different countries. The novel explores how war ruins the strength of the multinational family.
It’s chef’s kiss.

Jamaica Kincaid is once again that girl. I read excerpts of A Small Place my 3rd year of uni and decided to read The Autobiography of My Mother. I just finished the latter and boy do I have thoughts.
It’s sad but surprisingly didn’t make me sob the whole time.
The main character is so interesting to me like just a (self-proclaimed) loveless creature living on the island of Dominica. She has it rough, too, because her dad was not doing his job and her mom was dead since her birth😭
Kincaid is so skilled at navigating these sad, complex topics with very simple language. It’s a good good read

First and foremost: I watched the Euro 2020 final, and I hope Black and female English folks who see this are safe. England has terrible stats on domestic violence due to soccer/football losses and a few Black players missed penalty kicks, which is sparking racial abuse already.
Anyway, here is my July spread: it’s pretty minimal. I just had a random idea to draw a plan diamond and then added the orange lines to it. Same for the text. I thought it would pop w/ the color shadow.

Hello, everyone. Forgive me for being so MIA💀
The third year of university is a rollercoaster, but luckily this class I had ended early so I’m reading Let Us Compare Mythologies by Leonard Cohen. My February bullet journal theme is very simple. I’m just adding floral washi tape stickers. I will get to my homework…eventually😂

New bullet journal check! I’m obsessed w/ this grey Minimalism Art notebook! It has 2 bookmarks, lines on the front page for your name and address, table of contents AND a back pocket! I think I’ll continue to keep using this brand in the future :)

Finished with all my midterms so I can now show off my minimalist March theme! I skipped February, but it’s kind of the same thing with different colors and less illustration.
