New keychains! These are going to keep coming because I want to have cute merch for all our faves. These are for the Padmé and Handmaiden girlies, sort of a tribute to Padmé’s role in the formation of the rebel alliance, but also to Sabé and the Amidalans who had their own rebel cell on Naboo.
These have a Naboo starfighter and a Naboo royal crest as charms. The lanyard says “we are brave, your highness” in Aurebesh.
Available here.

Queer Star Wars Characters (Round 3): General Bracket Match 6
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Kor Plouth | Identity: wlw | Meda: The High Republic Phase II
Kor Plouth was the Force-sensitive daughter of the Herald of the Path of the Open Hand. While most Force-sensitive children were abandoned in the nearby town, Kor’s parents decided to keep her. She grew up to believe fervently in the Path and suppressed her Force powers the best she could. She became the girlfriend of another Path member, Yana Ro. She tried to convince Kor to join her in leaving Path and traveling the galaxy. They both became members of the Children, a group of operatives that stole Force-artifacts for the Path. Kor desperately wanted her parents to approve of Yana, but because of Yana’s cynicism they didn’t in her lifetime. While she was a Children, Kor was still very compassionate and unlike her girlfriend didn’t approve of killing to complete their missions.
The Mother agreed that Yana could leave after doing one last mission for the Path. However this mission was a trap to kill all the surviving Children. As Kor died in Yana’s arms, she confessed that if Yana had asked, she would have left her family and all she’d ever known. After her death, Kor haunted Yana, and it’s unclear if it was a manifestation of Yana’s own mind and her survivor’s guilt or some aspect of her girlfriend that couldn’t dissolve into the Force.

Yané | Identity: wlw | Media: Queen’s Trilogy
Yané, born Suyan Higin, was a skilled weaver before being recruited to be one of Padmé’s handmaidens. In that role, she was the liaison with the palace staff and droids, but she also used her textile skills to replace Padmé’s dresses with lighter and more durable replicas. She and Saché were left behind when Padmé and the rest of the handmaidens fled the Invasion of Naboo and were placed in internment camps. Forced together, they realized that their awkward feelings around each other were mutual attraction.
After Padmé’s term as queen, she married Saché and fostered many kids. This was her passion, while Saché joined the legislative assembly. She also made Padmé’s wedding dress, on short notice the night before, due to her professional insistence that Padmé got married in a proper dress. Unlike many of her fellow handmaidens, including her wife, she didn’t join the Amidalans after Padmé’s death, probably because of the children who needed her.

Armor Candy
Read on AO3!
Written for @rexwalkerweek!
August 4th: Your Favourite Planet | Form IV: Gale and Lightning, Creativity, Initiative
------------------------------
It starts, unsurprisingly enough, with General Skywalker complaining.
The 501st is in the hurry-up-and-wait phase of the latest cycle of the war, and that means downtime. Rex and a few of the others are in the officer’s lounge, joined by General Skywalker and the little Commander. The lounge is mostly used as the backup office when the shinies get too uppity and start coming to their actual offices with reg violations that are… well, they’re technically the sort of thing that’s meant to be reported, but they’re also deeply petty and always about getting one over a brother that’s proven annoying, rather than anyone actually caring about reg violations.
Well.
Echo and Dogma actually care, but Echo is an officer these days, so Rex just has Dogma go to Echo, and now those two only have to deal with each other. Echo’s loosened up enough that Rex finds him quizzing Dogma on obscure rules and occasionally sending him on wild nuna chases. It’s kind of mean, but at least Echo only ever seems to do it when Dogma’s reports are doing more harm than good.
Right now, everyone’s reporting each other—tattling like cadets—at Dogma’s rate.
So, the officers are hiding.
Rex spends most of his time in the lounge either doing flimsiwork or watching bolo-ball. Right now, most communications are down save for military, so nobody’s getting anything interesting in or out of the ship. That means he’s down to flimsiwork and gossip.
He tries to get through his flimsiwork. He really does. But the General…
The General.
“I’m just saying,” General Skywalker huffs, overdramatic and draped backwards over the side of the couch in a way that looks supremely uncomfortable, “I deserve to be the pretty one!”
Rex has no idea what’s going on. He hasn’t been paying attention. Still, he’s a loyal trooper. “You're pretty, sir.”
That sounded platonic, right? Right.
General Skywalker groans. Ahsoka giggles at him, and he swats at her. He doesn’t bother to get up from his ridiculous sprawl. “No, I meant… I'm always with Padme or Obi-Wan, and they're both super hot. I'm normally a nine, okay, I know I look good, but around them I look like a seven.”
General, what.
The General finishes with a massive arm gestures that half the room cannot see due to the couchback. “I deserve to be the pretty one.”
Hardcase perks up at an opportunity, and Rex jumps and starts running for him. He is too late. “What, you don't think Rex is pretty?”
Rex tackles him, and hisses “shut up, vod!”
Somehow, the General does not appear to notice the violence occurring behind him. He scoffs instead, once again gesturing like he’s on a Shili telenovela. “Rex is ruggedly handsome, Hardcase. Different scale entirely.”
Rex feels himself go red. Hardcase, despite being halfway to choked out, snickers below him. “What do you think of that, Captain?”
With a shove, Rex pushes himself up to standing and brushes himself down. The General’s looking at him in confusion.
Echo’s got a hand over Ahsoka’s mouth to keep her from laughing.
“Er,” Rex manages, looking at the General and absolutely at a loss for what to do. “Thank you, sir.”
It takes a few moments for his brain to catch up, and then he adds, just a tad too late to be natural, “on all our behalfs. We’re identical, after all.”
Ahsoka lets loose a noise that Rex has only heard from recordings of shriekhawks.
“Yes, yes, you’re all very handsome,” General Skywalker says, flopping back into his position of extreme drama. “I guess I can be the pretty one on the Resolute, since Ahsoka’s still got the corner on being cute for a few more years.”
Ahsoka giggles, still through Echo’s hand.
“Of course, sir,” Rex says, unsure of what else he can say. “You’re the pretty one.”

Nâdune: The Handmaidens
The word for handmaiden in Nabooro is nâdune, and is rooted in the same word as “warrior” (tonde), as handmaidens are meant to not only accompany queens (or princesses, when Naboo was not yet an elected monarchy) and offer them companionship, but also guard and protect them when necessary.
Traditionally, handmaidens were older than the princess, but as the tradition of enshué ‘n canâk (masks and disguises), developed out of the older traditions of facepaint and veiling, handmaidens slowly became the same age as the princess or royal they were protecting in order to disguise themselves as her better.
The handmaid who closest resembles the one they protect (or, if several of them look similar, the title is afforded to a handmaid who has been injured in her duty towards her princess) is known as the shâm nâdun, and is the highest ranking of the nâdune, though that rank is more a formality than anything else in the present day.
The parallel figure to this for young princes is a cânsag. Cânsag have similar functions to nâdune, in that they are usually of an age with the prince or young royal or noble they protect so they can disguise themselves as each other in situations where it is necessary, though the forms their enshué take are different.
Regarding Padmé’s nâdune:
Sabé / Tsabin means “herald of new life/growth”, translating literally as “mouth of the seed.”
Eirtaé / Eirtama means “poetic.”
Ballory (Balori) is a vocational family name for those who were once royal or religious warriors, translating literally to “warriors of the Six.” (More on “the Six” soon!)
Rabé / Rabene means “daughter of spring”.
Tonsort is also a once-vocational name for religious warriors, translating to “blessed warrior.”
Saché / Sashah is a name with many meanings, generally understood as meaning “deeper than meets the eye”, though can also be understood as ‘mysterious,’ or ‘one who is less than trustworthy’ - translating literally as “to question what you see.”
Adova is a regional name for those from the Western continent.
While Sabé and Cordé are the nâdune who most resemble Padmé, Saché was given the title of shâm nâdun after the Invasion of Naboo.
Yané / Suyan means “diamond, gem,” though Yané specifically is also a name in itself that means “life, greenery.”
Higin is a historical vocational name for higher ranking tailors on Naboo, i.e. tailor.
Cordé / Cordyn is a traditional name meaning “protector of the past.”
Dormé / Dorra means “cold,” and is one of several traditional winter names for children.
Versé / Versaat means “blessed,” or, more literally, “daughter of the Six.”
Moteé is more of a metaphoric name/phrase that is best translated as “to bloom,” though it translates literally as “to grow wings,” kind of in the sense of... to come into your own?
As Moteé doesn’t have a canon ‘original’ name i.e. before-she-was-a-handmaiden name, I came up with my own: Motil.
Most of these handmaiden names are actual names, though not all of them are particularly common ones (Yané is the one that is most commonly in use in the present day). The -é form is a presently somewhat old-fashioned way of constructing names used in previous centuries by royalty—so, these names do mostly maintain their actual meaning, because the root for most of their names is the same.
* I do eventually intend to come up with more last names and assign them some, but that’s... not a priority for me right now.

Made some stuff for the Naboo folks! These totes and beanies say boss bitch in Aurebesh with the Naboo royal crest in place of the O. I thought these would be fun for the Padmé Stan’s but also for all of us who fell in love with the handmaidens in the books and comics. There are also stickers available with the same design.
For US orders to arrive by Christmas, the deadline to order apparel is Dec. 13th. For Jewelry it’s Dec 16th. 💜

Queer Star Wars Characters (Round 4): General Bracket Match 2
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Leox Gyasi | Identity: aro/ace | Media: The High Republic Phase I
Leox Gyasi was the pilot/captain of the ship the Vessel, who ended up entangled in the discovery of the Drengir on the Amaxine station, a diplomatic mission with the Hutts, and the fall of Starlight Beacon, becoming a trusted ally of the Jedi. He was created to be an extreme subversion of the archetypical Han Solo-inspired scoundrel archetype. He’s a space hippie and what you’d get if Yoda wasn’t a Jedi and smoked spice instead.
He crews the Vessel with his found family consisting of the living rock Geode (who does fuck) and the young Affie Hallow- who became the captain of the Vessel after the dissolution of the Bryne Guild. He’s a fun guy with an appearance inspired by 90s Mathew McConaughey.

I know there are many people out there with their own imaginings as to what happened with Saché after the Battle of Naboo, especially if they've read Queen's Peril by EK Johnston.
Well, here's my own imagining. It certainly helps if you've read "Queen's Peril", but I don't think it's required. If you haven't, though, I reccomend the entire trilogy of books that delve into the lives of Padme and her handmaidens.
For now, what we have is Saché pushing through the pain and fatigue after her rescue from the prison camps, and what happens once the battle is over and she finally has time to breathe. Fortunately, Yané is there to help her along.
