reread nimona by nd stevenson in prep for my sff class and oh i think it is a fantastic addition to the the class!! a. obviously it has scifi and fantasy elements b. the characters are the best c. we can talk about graphic novels as a form of media d. we can talk about the history of media placing queer people and disabled people in the role of the villians e. it asks the question of what is good and what is evil f. it encourages people to question authority g. it has one of the best friendships at its center and h.

Straight Dramas - My favs in no particular order [1]

The Long Ballad (China, 2021, Historical Romance) ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Damn, it was so good! I got interested in Historical dramas only because of this one. Maturing female lead, devoted male lead, gripping plot, cross-dressing for dessert - I love it all!

Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha (South Korea, 2021, Real Life Romance) ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ So so so sooooo good! The female lead who's not an idiot, the male lead who's not in a hurry to fall to his knees for her, mutual attraction and bickering... And the smile of the male lead. Ohhh yeah. Similar vibe: Meet Yourself

It's Okay not to Be Okay (South Korea, 2020, Psychological Drama) ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Honestly, after many FMVs I got to expect less depth, but there's just so much here. Family, personal growth, anger management, a lot of coping with personal trauma... Beautiful.

When the Weather Is Fine (South Korea, 2020, Real Life Romance) ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I came for Seo Kang Joon, but I stayed for the drama. Damn, the storyline with sisters is strong! And the friendship one! And the adoptive family one!..

You Are My Hero (China, 2021, Romance, Drama) ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ It's like "Descendants of the Sun", but with a better plot and characters. While I concede that Song Joong Ki was amazing in the Korean drama, everything else is better in the Chinese drama, imho. And, keeping in mind that I actually liked "Descendants of the Sun", this drama became a revelation.

HONORABLE MENTION:

You Are My Glory (China, 2021, Romance, Drama) ⭐⭐⭐⭐ The gaming plot made it lose 1 star because I'm not a gamer. But everything else? Mature, inspired, amazing.

Lighter & Princess (China, 2022, Romance, Drama) ⭐⭐⭐⭐ A "local genius" trope is not something I like, but "living after prison" plot is so good! Similar vibe: Forever Love

Skate Into Love (China, 2020, Comedy, Romance) ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Again, the only thing that made the drama lose a star for me is sport in the plot, but I must say that many Chinese dramas about different professional areas are so inspired. GOOD for them.

A Complete Stranger Bought Me A SuperCorpZine & Unknowingly Restored My Hope

This is my long meltdown on how a generous stranger literally made me cry happy tears when I was moping hours ago when it happened...

A bit of a story about myself, I'm a 27yr old psychology undergrad. I had to stop and I never got to continue college cause as the breadwinner in the family, expenses and daily necessities were higher than my own salary. The only option was to take loans just to get by until the next pay day.

So yeah that was a terrible idea. The cycle never ended since.

Hence, wanting something and actually buying it was never an option for me.

It would always be the thought of "What about tomorrow?" or "I can't spend money because I don't know if we'll have sudden expenses."

For someone who has anxiety, expecting the chances of the latter still didn't prepare me anyway.

So when Supergirl ended then the Volume for You Are My Hero was announced, I was so bummed. I never got the chance to participate in this amazing thing the SuperCorp Fandom has been doing for years and I knew I couldn't afford it.

Then BAM! Omnibus~ Literally all the previous volumes plus the latest in one!!!

I never wanted something as much as this!

Yes SuperCorp has ruined me for any other ship and I'm happy ish them.

My brain literally converted the amount to how much kgs of Rice that would be equivalent to, how it would pay an entire electric bill or just how many days worth of food that amount would spare us.

And aside from knowing I can't afford it ever, I don't deserve it! Like how could I even think of prioritizing my wants over my family's needs?

I thought, but what if I save up? I have at least a month or so.

I tried so hard...every single change, every single grocery discount, declined every hangout with close friends...

But yeah the sudden expenses never end...and that's how my hopes in buying Omnibus were shattered.

So Monday June 20, 10 days before the entire pre-order ends...I'm moping on my bed.

Sulking with my swollen eyes as I finally accepted that I'm never going to get Omnibus. I won't have that last memento that I was part of this amazing,talented and generous fandom.

Then a literal surreal moment happened...

Eyes swollen and blurry, I was scrolling thru the SuperCorp Tag when I found a post about sponsoring the Omnibus and to only avail it if you really can't afford it.

I stared at it for soooo long. There were likes but no comments and I was like, Is this for real? Seriously?

I've been in desperate situations before that I lost my original Twitter account because I thought a complete stranger would actually help me...

So I was sceptical and I'm too emotionaly broken over not getting Omnibus for me to be too hopeful and just be shattered once more.

But nooooo. This complete stranger literally gave me life by sending more than enough funds to get Omnibus. As in making sure to send more than enough!

It's so surreal ya guys T_T

I'm finally getting Omnibus!!! and it's all thanks to your generous heart @caliphoria17 I really can't believe it. Shuta!

So yes, @caliphoria17 you really don't understand what you've done 😭😭😭

alright so capri suns are so good. Like whoever thought putting fruit juice in a squeezable container with a straw that could poke someone's eye out and giving it to a bunch of tiny children fueled by rage and pokemon cards had it right.

Like,

I don't get it. And then even grown up, I am a full blown adult, have been LEGALLY an adult now for a few years and you know what I went wild, thought yeah I'm gonna treat myself today and full on bought me a box of capri suns when I was sick and wanted something simple for my simple minded, half a functioning brain cell, self, and then when I ran out of them because I drank them all because hECK YEAH THEY'RE FLIPPIN AMAZING and life is fantastic I went and bought me another box of them.

You know what's not fantastic?

The package was sealed so completely there was no possible chance of any little gremlins running by and snagging a single drink from it as they ran wild through the store. Whoever packaged that stuff knew what they were doing and made it stupid proof. And I applaud them, 5000%

EXCEPT

When I am sick and feeble and only have half a functioning brain cell, I can't open a stupid box of cardboard to get to my treasured fruit juice designed for children. I sat there on my bed, trying to find the power I need to open my juice box so I can astral plane out of my misery, for like a solid 20 minutes. That box probably could've lasted through a nuclear fallout, I s w e a r.

I almost called it quits right then and there and got some help from my roommates but my mama didn't raise no quitter and by gosh and by golly I opened that box if it was the last dang thing I did. Which it almost was by the end of it

So, yes, capri suns are actually the greatest children's drink to exist and prods my suppressed monkey brain into action, and the packaging company knows what they're doing

Which I appreciate
