this bullshit discourse around cishet aromantic men is driving me insane and im not aromantic or aspect in the slightest but i gotta rant. because it's just getting very ridiculous at this point, because people make assumptions about everyone and also want to twist the definition of being queer- for some reason?? 1) "well- well they dont get oppressed!! >:(" sorry, pause, why the FUCK are we making "oppression" a part being lgbtq+ ? is this some new fucking requirement?? are you people okay?? i dont give a fuck if some queer child has had the best life ever in a super inclusive area from the second they were born, i would be happy for them?? maybe you should too? listen, ive faced oppression for being bisexual, and have felt envious of those with accepting family and whatnot, but what im not going to do is discredit my fellow queer person for facing "less" or no oppression at all for their identity. crazy take, but i think the goal should be to reduce queer oppression...
and oppression is not... some fixed scale type of thing, someone was trying to say that being asked "when will you get married?" to aro people wasn't oppression. as if that is not the only thing aro people face, as if instituitions like marriage dont exist, with certain economic benefits aro people can't partake in, and social constructs making certain people seem "weird" and straight up ostracized from social groups if they choose not to partake in romance.
2) amatonormativity is a thing, look it up. i get that it may be frustrating if you are allo to accept that youve been taught a lot of stuff about romance that seems magical and all encompassing and you dont want to give it up, but no one is asking you to do that. i used to be taken aback at some things aro folks pointed out, but as ive read more, ive realized that romance is wonderful to some people but shouldnt be held up as the ultimate pedestal in society. so, romanticize romance and whatnot if you personally want to, but understand that certain social constructs may harm people, especially those who do not want relationships for whatever reason. plus, learning about amatonormativity has helped me positively go about my own relationships- platonic and otherwise! 3) im gonna piss people off with this one, but please stop with the bullshitty radfem takes about cishet men being the ultimate spawn of satan, or something. the jokes here and there were one thing, but some of you guys actually believing that most of what cishet men do is inherently evil is legitimately concerning and this doesnt do much to actually help any matters. no, the man choosing to have another hookup this week or continuing to fuck a female friend-with-benefits isnt the ultimate enemy here against women. most takes on "hookup culture" generalize a lot of people's experiences, and i know there is research backing multiple perspectives on this, but at the end of the day what needs to be realized is that you cannot stop two consenting people from doing things together. it has no impact on you, and does not have a grand impact on society. unless you have definitive proof that whatever evil man you're talking about is "using women", there's no point to what you are saying, and if there is such a man, cishet aro men still are legitimate in their identity. would you exclude gay people from the community because of gay people who do bad things? would you do that for most identities? no? what makes this so drastically different, then? dont pull the oppression argument again for the love of god anyways, i hope all the cishet aro men and aro people in general are having a nice day. you will always be a part of the lgbtq+ community. dont let anyone tell you otherwise, or discredit you for the amount of "oppression" you face, as im sure they dont know half of any struggles you have. and if you (or any queer person in general) do happen to have few struggles, im very happy for you, as that's how it should be!!

What your K-pop fandom says about you!
BTS - You’re either under the age of 18 or this is the first ever group you got into.
TXT - You only got into them because BTS mentioned them.
BLACKPINK - You’re either under the age of 21 or you definitely ship Lizkook as a joke.
TWICE - You’re either male or a lesbian/bisexual woman that makes jokes about Dahyun literally hooking up with the other members.
Monsta X - This group either helped you to come out or you’re just whipped for Wonho like the rest of us.
Seventeen - You’re sick and tired of telling new fans why there are thirteen members instead of seventeen.
SHINee - You’re either over the age of 25, a parent, or thinking about having children in the future when the time is right. Or you’re probably a minor who is whipped for Taemin!
Stray Kids - You’re under 25, single and happy with your life. Also, you (will) have a mind of a teenager in your 20s and may possibly follow through in your 30s.
NCT - You have more than one bias. Ain’t no way you have only one with this many people in one group-
The Boyz - You often wonder what could be their chatroom name could be called due to their group name.
Loona - I’m not going to be mean with this one — You’re probably a kind hearted person who loves dresses and skirts because they’re cute and that’s it. Probably even shop for yourself or someone you love and is VERY good at designing outfits.
Red Velvet - J-just say it… they’re hot, isn’t it? Also you girls probably only like them because of that meme of Taemin getting beaten up by Seulgi and Wendy.
Girls’ Generation/SNSD - You’re DEFINITELY a guy that faps off to them or a girl that loves their concepts and probably feels nostalgic even hearing about them.
Super Junior/SUJU - You have daddy issues.
EXO - You’re probably between the ages of 16-30 and you also have daddy issues. Also if your biases are Kai, Baekhyun, Suho, Lay, or Chen, you’re DEFINITELY an adult. If you guys were old enough, you had also DEFINITELY had simped for Lu Han and had played Lu with the speakers on loud because you was an idiot who thought your parents weren’t home. Also yes, I have friends.
BIGBANG - Listening to them is just nostalgic to you just- ALL THE SONGS ARE SO- UGHHHHHH THERE’S NO WAY YOU HAVEN’T HEARD ANY OF THEIR SONGS IF YOU HAD BEEN A FAN AROUND 2010-2014
DAY6 - IF THIS IS YOUR GROUP, THEN YOU’RE PROBABLY BRAGGING THAT WE STARTED THE KOREAN ROCK BAND TREND FIRST NOT XDINARY HEROES OR TXT (also we’re better — kidding I love the others too)
2NE1 - Nah, you know this is one of the best and most nostalgic group on the list I don’t care if people hate it I love it and that’s all matters-
Aespa - You probably stanned this group because either because they give the same vibe as BLACKPINK or because you just like their songs.
Shinhwa - You’re probably wondering “when will they disband” in the most non toxic and disrespectful manner possible. Also you’re probably like over the age of 25 if you stanned them for more than a decade.
P1Harmony - You probably stanned them just for Keeho, or something related to him. I mean, who doesn’t love this guy?
TVXQ/DBSK - DAMN- YOU LIKE THIS GROUP? Well you must definitely living your best life and I do hope that both sides of your pillow is cold. Share your pride with your fandom please — I’m so proud of you honey. Especially if you’re under the age of 18, ily.
ITZY - You’re definitely under 18, and probably a girl group fan. You have a bestie that is a Loona stan and probably wants to have a pink aesthetic for your room.
Dreamcatcher - Definitely a real feminist and cares for other male survivors as well as the female ones. Also seggsy af-
SuperM - Your bias is definitely Taemin and your bias wreckers HAS to be either Baekhyun, Kai or Ten. Also you have daddy issues.
TREASURE - You dumbasses are probably going to ask me “aM i A mEmBeR oF tReAsUrE” just because one of the members has the same name and (coincidentally) is Japanese.
IKON - You’re sick and tired of 8 year old boys dancing and singing “Love Scenario” and saying that it comes from Fortnite and not from the K-pop group itself.
Block B - You’re sick and tired of people making fun of your fandom name… J-just stop it… that’s not it…
Mamamoo - Where did y’all go? They were only known for that one song and that’s it. They seemed like a cool group to get into, probably still making nice music. I’d have to listen to them eventually.
OH MY GIRL - Bet you loved the dolphin cult era, right? The only time people can remember that your fandom exists. Anywho, you probably spam in every comment section that annoying ass “DA 🐬 DA 🐬 DA 🐬” song on Tiktok, YouTube, Instagram- EVERYWHERE-
Let me know if I missed anyone out!

Mallory (He/Him) by @sparkledoodles
Why Should Your OC Win?
Mallory. A dream demon with powers very reminiscent of Bill Cipher. His name supposedly meaning “unlucky” or “unfortunate”, he’s one guy who gets the taste of his own medicine.
I won’t bore with excessive details (you may have read his original info post from Round 1!), but he goes through a few stages. Class bully, angsty teen and then adult, worshipped/leader adult, and then house crasher. He develops an affinity for ham because of a simple question asking what he likes in his omelet. In one universe he develops a fear of blonde women with their hair in ponytails due to this nightmare (he takes dreams VERY seriously).
Most recently I’ve been messing around with his house crasher era. You may see a certain man named Castor Dent later, who is the owner of this house and ends up Mallory’s lover in this stage. I can’t speak about him in full since he’s not my OC, but Castor is great.
One universe he’s adopted a kid (and is a disorganized mess), in another he’s in his high school years figuring out his sexuality… then getting thrown into an arranged fight with a man so pretty he finds out his bisexuality right then and there.
Never let him behind the wheel, either. You will not make it to your destination by any means.
Anyways, that’s my ham-loving bisexual disaster for you.
Note!!!: If you’re wondering why sometimes he’s got his horns + tail, sometimes he has his burnt arm, sometimes he’s in a robe, and all that.. Well he’s got a few different stages/universes. His horns also come out, rising from his skull and his tail extends from his back. They pop out when he’s either feeling cocky/proud or he’s feeling strong emotions. His burnt arm forms from a deal he takes at a later stage in his life.
What is Your OC Like?
A dream demon, think Bill Cipher. A ham lover and an attention-loving blorbo. He can mess around with dreams, visiting them and altering them if he's up for it. He started off his life in Hell but eventually escapes to Earth through a bit of a shady deal (that results in his arm getting burnt up. Fun times!). From there, he gathers a bit of a following, with people of every gender seeking to know about this "dream demon" who sports these tall horns and a demon tail. Eventually, he ends up banished from the place he was living at, due to growing concern about his following growing so rapidly, so he wanders until he finds residence at another man's house. He becomes a house crasher, simply feasting off any food within the fridge and sporting a specific fondness for cubed ham. Just pops it into his mouth by the handfuls. Mallory is the most horrific cook, usually ending up with him covered in food and something burnt. He also takes dreams very seriously, so if he has a dream where a blonde woman with a ponytail might hurt him, he fears all blonde women with a ponytail for a while. He's rather dramatic and emotional, used to all the love and attention from his following and seeking it once again with the man housing him.
((If you seek a condensed version, then: A dream demon who can mess around with dreams, has an odd obsession with ham and loves praise. He ends up becoming a house crasher and mooches off any food he can find while needing desperate help in the kitchen if he wants to cook anything at all.))
Faizan Ayaz (They/He/It) by @blackwickcounty
Why Should Your OC Win?
They have been through so much. They attempted to kill someone and got kicked out of their old job and everyone who knows loathes them. He has no longterm romantic relationship (the person he attempted to kill was his ex). Literally a failguy in every aspect but he DOES have a weird qppship/fwb going on
What is Your OC Like?
Faizan Ayaz is a 38 year old bi nb person who is an eadali (closed race, basically kind of like a stone person) . They are Pakistani/Turkish coded (if they were human theyd be those ethnicities) . They are transmasc and have chronic pain, autism, ADHD and depression. He loves pretty daggers, drinks at the local bar and his friend Ernest.
Ulyana (She/They) by @orfisheus
Why Should Your OC Win?
She may be good at fighting, but she certainly is not good at living.
Ulyana is the personification of a fish out of water. Released on prison furlough in a foreign country, their basic knowledge of life is: 0. She can barely figure out how to turn on a washing machine, cook anything aside from a quiche, or sit in a chair properly. They have a Moomin shrine in their closet. She is scared of anime. Everything normal that she attempts to do turns out to be an absolute failure. Having never learned basic life skills aside from how to knock someone out cold, they're doing... the best they can, really. At least she has her wife, who she married in Vegas after getting very tipsy.
Also, my friends say she's really pretty, so we love to see pretty women!! She literally has one of the roughest backstories that I've written, so she deserves a win for once.
What is Your OC Like?
Ulyana, after years of being used as a political pawn throughout her childhood, is finally free to live her life! Needless to say, they aren't very good at it. It's tough to learn the basics of life at 24, but hey! No one said they couldn't try. Stern, tactical, yet sweet, and often very anxious, she's found her home living in an old house with three other roommates, not including the one who broke into the attic. They spend most of their days in college classes, or working overtime on weekends in the most boring grocery store ever.
Don't be fooled by her anxiousness and awkwardness, though. Years of military training has made her very capable of kicking anyone's butt. Stay on her good side, and you won't find out what it feels like to be swept off your feet and have three inch heels on your face. You're safe when you find a metal detector. She's probably got at least 50 knives on her at all times (they stole all of them. Just because they are on furlough DOES NOT mean they still aren't committing crimes!! She does crimes for fun!!)

I ship them tbh ☺️
And if you’re wondering why there’s squiggly lines around their little hand hold, it’s because Marie is slightly trembling with shyness 🤭
Nazz is a really nice girl and I feel if she were to ever really interact with Marie, she could teach her that there’s more to life than following the orders of their manipulative (and possibly demonic, since she has a third freaking eye) older sister. As Nazz helps herself to realize that she’s bisexual/biromantic
Plus with Nazz seeming more tomboyish in Big Picture Show, allowing the two of them to get along even better, while Marie learns to accept her more girly side with Nazz’s support.
Basically, I’ve always thought that Marie being secretly interested in girls was a good possibility. Since Double D looks the most like a girl and is often mistaken for one, and just keeps trying to tell herself that Double D is a girl despite knowing he’s really a boy.
She continues with this act because she doesn’t want any heat from Lee and is afraid May won’t understand.
And, let’s face it, without Lee, Marie and May would be so much better off.
I mean…look at this!!
Tumblr media
When May told her sisters to stop fighting, Marie was the ONLY one out of the two that went to hug her. Says a lot if you ask me.
And just another little thing: Marie does think Double D is “cute” just not in a romantic way. It’s in a “cute little kid you’d find in a kindergarten” way.
Just my own headcanon :3
I’d like to hear your ideas about this!!

suggestive themes up ahead, but no smut yall, never im a child of christ!! (totally)
this is probably some scenarios rather than hc, sorry yall
let's pray first yall, sa ngalan ng ama, ng anak, ng espiritu santo amen.
since nono is like a bit harsh most of the time, and probably is busy with being a senior stuff and having no time to look in relationships, she probably agreed on having reader in the relationship (caeser's literally horny most of the time when it includes relationship)
caeser intitiating the request
"nono, i know your my fiancée, but you have to take in consideration in what i am about to say."
nono sighs knowing she had no choice but to listen to her fiancée's blabbering. she initiated a sign for him to elaborate.
"so, remember that new s-rank?"
"the one with luminous at that time they called off the alarm for a 'dragon'?"
"yeah, have you ever looked at them and think what if th-"
nono already seen this coming.
"-ey're so cute that they're in a relationship with us"
. . .
both caeser and nono convincing [reader] to be in a poly relationship
caeser
he's probably the type to send letters with chocolates and roses CAUSE HES A PUS-
───────────────────────
"ehhhh???!?!?"
[reader] turned to finger once again flabbergasted.
"finger. you CANNOT believe what happened again. caeser sent one of his letters again-"
and with that finger took the chocolate and ate it,
"just say yes broski, if he's doing it, nono agrees."
[reader] looked at him baffled.
"i digress!-"
. . . a week later
nono
she's face to face when convincing you to join them probably cause she may have badussy, but she aint a puss-
───────────────────────
"you are my junior, yet i find myself to fancy you too. will you accept this token from me and caeser to be in our relationship?"
"wh- hah.. hahaha... i- i'll think.."
[reader] accepts the token, and runs away straight to finger. leaving a confused nono but a bit cocky because she wasn't a pussy, she talked to [reader] not send letters.
"i told you didn't i??????"
"yeah yeah, fuck you. here's your 20,000 gold. you win the bet!"
🎺knee momints with caeser salad
BRO. this man looks fucking dominant, but i swear to god. he's probably sub, or a switch HELPPPPP.
agree or disagree 🤨
───────────────────────
caeser comes in the dorm without knocking looking helpless. (like lustfilled helpless.)
"wh- hey! i told you i didn't want you going in again without knocking on th-"
[reader] gets cut off by a rough kiss. caeser never ever has looked so helpless. he missed the warmth of his other fiancée. moreover now his other fiancée was busy.
"mm-" [reader] raised a brow, they couldn't help it. caeser letting out a whimper? a submissive noise? THE caeser himself??
after a while, [reader] breaks off the kiss. but ever so gently caressed caeser's face before standing up from their chair and kissing anywhere, but not on his lips.
caeser was getting a little impatient, but also enjoying it. he would let out whimpers from time to time.
as much as they both liked it, [reader] stopped.
"[r-reader]..?-"
before caeser could finish, [reader] pinned him to the wall close to their closet and motioned to keep silent.
───────────────────────
BROOO HE'S JUSTTTTT
UGHHHHH
🎺knee momints with no-no, i disagree
BRO. SHE'S DOMINANT. SHE IS. YOU CANNOT CHANGE MY MIND. NEVERRRR
(same case scenario)
───────────────────────
*insert loud bang of a door*
"[reader]. why weren't you answering our- my calls and texts?"
[reader]'s head swiftly turned their head and body towards nono as they stand up.
"nono.. i've told you both i'm albeit busy in the moment and i sti-"
"that still doesn't change the fact you haven't seen our texts."
they were trying to think of what to say next, i mean who could blame the literal errand side character workaholic?
when they were about to open up for a response, they were met by an aggressive yet passionate kiss.
nono's hands roamed around [reader]'s body.
she pulled apart, "now, let's teach you a lesson, shall i?"
🎺knee momints with the both of them
okokok. but. NONO AND CAESER BEING NOT ASHAMED IF THEIR BEHAVIOUR IN PUBLIC. bro, caeser character development. he aint no pussy no more YEAHHHHHH
───────────────────────
originally, nono and caeser were invited to attend a party, they didn't have a chouce but they both knew they wouldn't go without their beloved other fiancée.
after a shit-ton of time convincing [reader] to come with them, they finally agreed.
"are you both sure??.."
"yes, it's not like they didn't allow any other guests to follow in."
the three of them went inside and found a place to sit. gosh, both of them couldn't even put to words how their fiancée looked like.
after some while they were served drinks. [reader] was in the middle, caeser on the left and nono on the right.
nono was easily intoxicated by the drink, she swore that she had a high tolerance with alcohol but it seemed off.
next was caeser. then by that, [reader] felt a bit woozy. later on, they suspect it may be aphrodisiac since it was mostly couples and fiancées there.
yikes, nono and caeser's actions were the ones to prove it was.
"w-woahhhhh.. nono.. caeser.."
[reader] was a bit overwhelmed since they were out, it was because nono grabbed onto [reader]'s waist and caeser?
he was whispering sweet nothings to their ear meanwhile also nibbling onto it. gosh, they swore they felt caeser going down.
"[reader].. we both have.. been waiting for this.."
nono said while slurring some of the words.
"please... let me and nono.. be.. be within in.. you."

Man, I think fandoms are fucking great.
Because like, back in 2020, during the pandemic, I had to go back to my parent's home and this was one of the most depressing events that ever happened to me thus far, I was beaten down and all that. The situation was bad *bad*, on top of that, I didn't know who I was, or what I was anymore. Then I blinked and I found myself stumbling back into the Les Mis fandom, then a little bit deeper this time, because way back in 2012 I was still fairly a kid, right. So I got back to the Les Mis fandom, get myself a discord account and determined to learn how to use it this time, then joined a server.
It was wonderful, because honestly, at that point I identified myself as bisexual and genderfluid, despite that I was way more comfortable whenever someone addressed me as a dude, because you know, innerlised transphobia - and let me tell you, I've never interacted with so many queer people who are so proud of being themselves: trans people, genderfluid people, non-binary people, you name it. Which got me started questioning myself, y'know, as one would.
And then Elliot Page came out. I love T.U.A and Vanya at the moment was one of the characters I enjoyed dearly, and I adore Elliot Page, so when he came out, something in me cracked along with it the moment I saw him on Oprah and was beaming with genuine happiness and relief. That's when I know, so not long afterwards, I came out.
After that, I rejoined the Star Wars fandom. Well, I write, but at the time, I've basically swore off writing, because I found discontentment everytime words hit the paper. I couldn't write long because I couldn't stay focus, and I was too busy wallowing myself in what would people perceive of my writings, and whether the thing that I wrote entertain others or not; that I was in constant jealousy of friends who also write and have better view counts. So I decided to stop. Then I found love in Star Wars again with The Mandalorian and the odd pair of DinLuke, which was why I joined the big DL server back then.
This time I was greeted with a space full of - let's say - people who are ahead in life, people who are way older than me, basically internet grandparents etc. - and they're still here kicking in fandom space and write stories about characters they love. I looked at them and I thought, wow, I want to be like them when I grow up. I want to stop feeling miserable all the time and make it that far in life still being able to do what I love and enjoy like they do. So I started working on myself. I got myself to seek professional help. My therapist, though I was only able to did few sections with her, was extremely helpful. I started nudging myself towards the light, then I started writing again.
People in the server were so helpful. They gave me advices and tips, encouraged me endlessly, until finally, after years, I was able to write something that I found myself truthfully enjoy, not for the sake of anyone else.
Which then later lead me to the Top Gun fandom, which I was never able to imagine myself being interested, yet here we are. This fandom really is something, a celebration of creation if I may say so - I've lost count of the events currently hosted within the fandom space, but it's a joy knowing you can always jump into one anytime of the month - and once again I found myself surrounded by writers, who are cheerful and encouraging, which lead to me finally joining NaNoWriMo officially without bailing out for the first time ever. The joy of November, waking up to work then whenever I got to rest, I could always find people scattered from all over the globe to write with me, cheering each other. I was able to write 30k!!! Can you believe it! And now I can't wait for this year's NaNo, because this gave me the boost I need to start working on my original fiction idea.
So yeah. Fandoms are fucking great, and I love my amazing fandom friends that I've made along the way.

Radio Silence Review
Radio Silence by Alice Oseman
CW: Suicidal Thoughts, Abusive Parent, Animal Death, Underage Drinking, School Stress, Depression, Arson, Death Theeats, Toxic Internet Culture, Stalking, Unhealthy Weight Loss, Positive References to Harry Potter and Scott Pilgrim, Anxiety, Racism, Queerphobia, Classism, Fire Injury
5/5
I've wanted to read Alice Oseman's Radio Silence for quite a while, but it was the most recent season of Heartstopper that motivated me to read it now. If you're familiar with Oseman, you might know that all of their stories are set in the same universe. You may also know that they don't always connect to each other. I had assumed that Aled (a character in the Heartstopper comic and Radio Silence) was renamed Issac for the show. When I realized his story was very different, I looked into why. Aled was left out in hopes that Radio Silence will get an adaptation. So, if you were wondering, you do not need to be familiar with Heartstopper to understand and enjoy Radio Silence. The story takes place after and is very much its own thing!
In Radio Silence, Frances Janvier is head girl of her school and achieving top grades. She's on track to go to Cambridge, but she's been missing out on a fulfilling social life because of it. The only two things she does in her free time are art and listen to a podcast called "Universe City". When she accidentally finds out that she knows the anonymous creator of the podcast, she starts to help with the show and get close to him. This is Aled Last, a depressed boy with an abusive mother and a missing twin sister. Time spent with Frances allowed both of them to embrace their true selves. Unfortunately, the problems in Aled's life may be too much for their friendship.
Being used to Heartstopper and Loveless, both by Oseman, I was unprepared for how dark Radio Silence was. While no main characters die, there are feelings of hopelessness and fear that can affect a reader. It's the first book I've needed a reading break from since Jennette McCurdy's memoir. In addition to the topics I've already mentioned, this book covers racism, single parent-hood, mental illness, flaws in the education system, suicidal thoughts, toxic internet culture, and stalking. The topics are all handled quite well, I just wish I had read a content warning going into it. For me, it helps to prepare for what I'm about to read instead of going in blind. All reading needs are valid!
The thing that drew me to Oseman in the first place was their inclusion of asexuality. While you do not need to be ace yourself to write ace characters, I do see it as a nice bonus. Being ace, Oseman tends to include that rep in most of their books. Over the course of Radio Silence, Aled discovers that he is on the asexual spectrum. It's something he's afraid to share as he doesn't know how others will react. I've had this same fear every time I've started being interested in someone new. Seeing realistic representation of my identity will always feel rewarding.
Oseman is great at writing varied and authentic queer identities. Aled is also into guys and potentially gender fluid. The podcast he creates often pulls from his own life and the main character of it is gender fluid. Frances knows she's bisexual before the book starts. She doesn't get a romance arc in this book, so it's not a big part of the plot, it's just a part of who she is. There's also a gay character and a lesbian character. Queer people flock together and it's clear that Oseman knows this.
I think that Radio Silence is mostly written very well! The pacing allowed the book to take up many months and feel like it. Every mysterious part of the story was revealed at the right time. The characters were all complex and interesting. The messages all got across. What I struggled with was how Frances was telling the story. Though it's all from her point of view at some time in the future, this feels uncertain and inconsistent. It's as if sometimes she was just describing it in the moment. She was also annoyingly repetitive at times. I think it would have worked better if she was either an unreliable narrator or if it was all in the present. It wouldn't need to be present tense, but lines like "I would always" or "I never saw [person] again" could be left out. There's always going to be something a book struggles with and that's okay.
Radio Silence is not just a must-read for Alice Oseman fans, but a great book for anyone upset with the school system, wanting a friendship love story, or looking for a serious read that turns out okay. If you decide to read it you'll be treated to bits of the fictional podcast, fashion ideas from the characters, and lots of queer rep! If this sounds like a book for you, trust your gut and pick it up!

I felt that Lily Orchard channel could have been big, but Lily Orchard sabotages her own channel by being Lily Orchard. I starting to wonder if this by accident or on purpose? Like here are some things she refuses to do and that keeps her fanbase young and naïve. Cite sources, cite artist and stop plagiarizing other Content creators work. I also wonder if this helps keep her audience younger and naive. In high school for me citation was a pain in the butt, but in college citation was explained to me and now I love it and it is important. However, Lily refuses to do it and the younger and naive fanbase might not know why it is wrong not to cite others work. This may turn older fans away from her keeping her fan base smaller then a content creator who does cite work.
Lily refuses to try different stories . What bother me is she wants one story that covers everything to her very specific taste. Instead of accepting that there are many stories that change what she wants to be told differently. CentaurWorld resolves her issue about Steven Universe, but not enough lesbians I guess. Tuca and Bertie has the slice of life components she likes, and bisexual main character but I guess because the show is about adult characters who are not attracted to each other Lily is not interested. Not to mention the countless other content she refuses give the time of day because they are made in other countries or inspired by work of other countries. This keeps her fan base smaller then someone who tries new stories.
Lastly the anger Lily Orchard has is keeping her fanbase smaller and younger and naive. Anger really appeals to younger people. However, once a fan matures anger has less appeal. I think Lily mistakes anger for a good argument which works with younger people, but not with older people. This turns older fans away. However, if these attributes don’t work. Then Lily does the final blow of being mean and abusive to her fanbase which chases away the rest of the fans except the ones who don’t know any better. Then add Lily not taking responsibility for writing fanfics with negative/gross content in them, but yelling at anyone who dares write any fanfic with negative/gross content in them. Which gets rid of the older fanbase who found that out.
Combine all these facts with trying to get rid of anyone who disagrees with her on any trivial topic and you have a recipe for a sabotaged channel.
Lily Orchard could have been good, but instead of learning and growing, she stagnated. I just wonder was the refusal to learn and grow on purpose to keep her audience young and naïve or just Lily refusing mature herself because Lily believe Lily is always right?
LO thinks that maturing or working on herself is reduced to what kind of media she consumes or not, so i'd say that the second option is the most likely one. she doesn't think she has to work on anything else. everything else has to change to accomodate her.

✦ JOE KEERY, CIS MAN, HE/HIM ✦ THEODORE TEDDY HALLOWELL the TWENTY-SIX year old has been in Hidehill for his ENTIRE LIFE and was a FORMER STUDENT to Jade Parker, the missing person . Whispers on the streets are that the REGISTERED NURSE who lives in HORWICK. He is said to be EASY-GOING and GULLIBLE but I guess we’ll find out for ourselves. { MAX, 26, GMT, ANY PRONOUNS. }
[ PINTEREST ] [ SPOTIFY ]
full name: theodore jason hallowell jr
nicknames: teddy, teds, tj, teej, grizz, theodore junior (if you want a smack)
faceclaim: joe keery
birthdate: may 6th, 1996
gender: cis male
pronouns: he/him
occupation: registered nurse at hidehill general (volunteer skating teacher at the local rink)
neighborhood: horwick
sexual orientation: bisexual disaster
relationship status: single
height: 6'2"
TRAITS: EASY-GOING, CHARMING, VAIN, LOYAL, GOOFY, BRAVE, SELF CONSCIOUS, GROUNDED, DISORGANISED, JEALOUS, BLUNT, OBLIVIOUS, GUARDED, ADVENTUROUS, SELF-SUFFICIENT, CLINGY, RECKLESS, AIMLESS, FACETIOUS, FAIR, HONEST, OVERPROTECTIVE, ARROGANT, WOOLLY, SELF-SABOTAGING.
hidehill born and raised, teddy is the second eldest of four kids. full of sunshine from the moment he appeared and at his most happy when surrounded by other people.
when he turned ten his then fifteen year old brother, luke, died in a quad biking accident while on vacation with his friend from high school.
once luke died the family slowly started to fall apart at the seams. big theodore quit his position as the chief of the local fire station and started to take long-haul jobs crab fishing or on oil rigs to get away from the house full of memories. his ma went to bed one day and didn’t get up again for the next eight years, like a zombie when she could peel open her eyes.
teddy shouldered the burden. he showered his younger siblings every morning, made them breakfast, got them to doctors appointments and ran the house though they hated him for acting like a parent when he wasn’t. though he always showed up for the younger two, he wouldn’t do the same for himself and nearly got kicked out of high school a few times for his acting out and ditching.
miss parker was one of the few teachers that called him on his bullshit and actually wondered why he was falling asleep in her class and skipping lunch. had a huge puppy love crush on her at the time and doodled her name in hearts in his notebooks. she was also instrumental to him working out that he has dyslexia during his senior year.
theo is used to being completely reliant on himself and appreciates but isn’t the best at accepting help. has come to terms with the fact that passing on his scholarship was one of the worst things he ever did and that he’ll probably never make it out of hidehill.
tj hates being alone more than anything and doesn’t really know who he is when he’s by himself. teddy tends to just mirror what he thinks people want from him and is easily taken advantage of because he’s always giving and giving.
worked doubly hard to qualify as a nurse and is genuinely good at what he does, has an excellent bedside manner. (offers under the table medical care to those without insurance/in dangerous situations)
takes too many shifts at the hospital because he can’t stand the sound of an empty house, can’t stand having no one left to take care of.
talented offensive ice hockey player, had dreams of going pro in minor leagues when he was a teenager but he had to work until his siblings left home. still skates all the time and often takes volunteer shifts at the rink to teach people how to ice skate.
plays the bass and used to have a band in high school that inevitably wound up going nowhere.
seeming happy-go-lucky to those around him and able to “i’m fine.” his way out of answering questions or by deflecting back to the other person, teddy is viewed generally as a good time and pretty untroubled to the reams of acquaintances that would slap him on the shoulder after a game in high school.
has a rescue dog, a bull terrier mutt with three legs named spud who he loves more than anything. always wears a daisy yellow neckerchief.
drop me message for plots and we’ll figure something out!
loose summary of relationships plotted in his connections tab, sorry to those on mobile ://

hi!! you seems so sweet ahdbdjejdn— could i please get a romantic genshin matchup? i’m bisexual & use she/her pronouns :)
for my personality, im an enfp & my zodiac is cancer! id say i’m fairly optimistic and bubbly, at least i try to be! im also fairly energetic, kind of like im always on a massive sugar high, but i think it’s fun! with the people i care about im really clingy and affectionate, like i tend to hang off their arms or hold their hands— it’s just how i love!! i love anything soft or cute, like fuzzy blankets or animals! going for walks and petting dogs is lowkey one of the best underrated things ever. i also really like dressing up & doing makeup, both on myself and anyone who will let me op. for my hobbies, there’s reading, baking, skating, walking, yoga, makeup, and singing. i also really like to compliment people!! seeing others smile is the wonderful because i think everyone’s more beautiful when they’re happy :) i don’t think there’s much i dislike, probably hypocrites or overly cruel people, like, ones that think being mean is fun :/. like being nice is so easy?? why?? oh!! i also don’t like tomatoes, they’re just gross in my opinion.
please & thank you!!
Hello sweetie pie~ Thank you for choosing Rebby's Matchmaking Services!
Let's see here. . .
I match you with~
Tumblr media
Arataki Itto
Oh gosh, this man finds you to be the cutest one there is! He's constantly hyping you up and putting a smile on your face. He just adores you and loves you unconditionally. While he may be gruff and not at all cute, some even find him intimidating; you don't, rather, you find him absolutely charming.
"Wow! Look at you, babe. You look beautiful; I must be the luckiest Oni there is!" Itto exclaims excitedly as you come out of the room, giving him an adorably tiny twirl of your dress.
You blush furiously and fidget with your hands, "Am I really that beautiful to you?" You ask shyly
"Only the most beautiful! The cutest, prettiest, most gorgeous girl there is. Not even Ms. Hina compares to your beauty," he says, a matter of fact, nodding his head as he agrees with himself.
You can't help but giggle and run up to him in a comforting embrace.
He loves how clingy you are, proudly showing you off to his other gang members, purposefully making them jealous. He loves being close to you, whether it's cuddling, hand-holding, or even being in proximity of each other.
"Boss, no fair you got a girlfriend before us! I'm totally a better catch!" Genta says loud enough for you to hear and with a mighty smack, Itto slaps the back of his head.
"No way, she chose me and I couldn't be more grateful, isn't that right, Y/N?" Itto says defensively.
Huffing at Genta you turn your face away from him, "That's right! Besides I think Itto is great, handsome, and strong!" With each compliment Itto smiles wider and wider, with pride, as you cling to his arm.
"Y-yeah, YEAH! See?! She agrees, now stop trying to hit on her, or else!" Itto says gruffly, glaring daggers onto Genta, who takes a step back.
"Yes boss, sorry boss!"
Itto would worship the ground you walk on if you let him, but you don't because his happiness is equally important to you. You make sure to bring everything to the table when it comes to your relationship with him because he does so much for other people that seeing his smile means more to you than anything else.
"Hey, Itto. . .you've been overworking yourself lately. Don't you think it's time to take a breather?" You say with a worried expression, uncertainty lingering in your voice.
"I'm fine; I'm fine, buuuuttt if you wanna help me, there's one thing you can do," he flashes a flirty grin, a mischievous glint in his ruby eyes.
"Ohhh hoho~? Is there now? And what might that be, pray tell?" You say just as flirtatiously.
"How about a kiss?"
"Oh, I think I can manage that much~," you say, beaming him a smile. Standing up on your tip toes, he leans down, and the two of you meld your lips together with a soft warm passion as he snakes his arms around your waist, pulling you closer to him.
Pulling away first, Itto smiles, "I love you."

hi!! i know requests are open but if i misread/they're not, then pls feel free to ignore :> a matchup for twst please? thank you in advance!!
pronouns: she/her
sexuality: bisexual
positive trait/s: i am very understanding, to the point where i let people just do what they want (in a good way, that is) but i don't let them walk all over me and take advantage of me. i'm not a judgemental person, so people come to me sometimes when they just need someone to listen to their rants even if it sounds embarrassing ('cuz i wont judge them at all for whatever it is). i think i am a kind person to people, just as long as they don't betray or take advantage of me (basically, i'm the “treat others the way you want to be treated” kind of person).
negative trait/s: i procrastinate alot (but i still get stuff done, i'm actually an honors student). i am a people-pleaser and do not like confrontation. i think i'm prideful to an extent, where i put up this fake-confidence so people don't make fun of me. i'm very sensitive to criticism, which means i think about negative things said about me too much. i also overthink, like for example, when i talk to people, i wonder if my tone is friendly enough or if my hand gestures aren't annoying. i'm just trying to be confident but in the inside, i'm actually quite fragile and scared of what people think of me, which is why i try so hard to “fit in” with people.
hobbies: journaling, collecting stationary supplies (washi tapes, memo pads, all the cute ones like that i just cant help but buy them), napping (i take at least two naps a day,, its a problem), shopping for clothes and improving my wardrobe aesthetic. also cosplaying. i like cosplaying <3
favorite color: black and red
this ask may look familiar, that's because i already submitted a request a long time ago but for obey me!! i hope that's fine with you if i do it again, if not, just ignore this!! thank you so much again for taking the time to do my request! <3
I match you with Trey!
You and Trey share a lot of positive traits, and I think that's something he'd like in a partner. Both of you are very understanding, which would be very helpful in any kind of relationship. However, neither of you are one to let others walk all over you, and that's something Trey would admire a lot. He would also appreciate that you're super non-judgemental and open to hearing others' problems. Since Trey is considered the "mom friend" a lot, he's constantly having younger students come to him with problems and worries, so it'd be nice to have someone else around to help him out.
With your negative traits, I think you're quite similar to Riddle, which works out well since Trey knows how to handle these types of traits already. He's great at helping with procrastination, and would offer to help you out with nay work you're struggling with. He may not be a top student or anything, but he's still pretty smart. Trey would also most definitely see through your prideful exterior, and he would try his best to help you be more confident in your true self. Of course, he'd never push past any boundaries you might have, but he'd still be willing to help if you wanted. He's also super great at giving out criticism without sounding mean, so you might feel better about getting some from him. Overall, he's also pretty non-judgemental, and he'd be there for you whenever you may be struggling.
As for your hobbies, I could see him enjoying them a lot. He'd be totally down for helping you with your stationery collection, and he'd always try and find some for you when he goes out. You also cannot convince me he does not have a journal of some kind, because he totally does. he may not write in it often, but he does have one. If you wanted, Trey could also help you with your napping addiction, or he could just join you if you prefer that. He may not be the most fashionable person out there, but he'd be happy to go shopping with you if you asked him to, and he'd give you any clothing advice you want from him. Same thing goes for cosplay. Trey might not have the most experience, but he'd totally supportive.

||Mommy… I mean Wanda?||
Part: 1
Read: Part 2 Part 3 Part 4 Part 5
Parings: wandanat x reader
A/N: Hi! This is my first wandanat fic pls be nice. And excuses any errors. 😘Also I may or may not be hiding away in my room rn avoiding the “party” that inspired this fic rn. 👀 Hope you enjoy :)
Summary: Home for the holidays, you expect quite an uneventful trip, but the new neighbors may be able to prove you wrong.
Warnings: slight mommy kink, sexual suggestion, alcohol. (Think that’s it)
Word count:2,2k
********************************
It’s the three days before Christmas and you just got home. Tonight your parents are having a small holiday “party”, it was tradition. Your parents had invited your aunt and uncle as well as their son, Nick. He was a seventeen year old boy whom you had nothing in common with. He was a good kid and you’d exchange a few words, but eventually you would just resolve to sharing awkward smiles with each other during the rest of the evening. Your siblings were supposed to be there too, but bailed and left you to fend for yourself. A handful of neighbors were also invited. They were pleasant, but nothing too interesting. You felt yourself zone out as they discussed flowers and some strangers divorce. Your aunt explains why the woman must have gone insane and how the least she could do was cook for the poor man who had provided for her for so long. You sigh and accidentally draw attention to yourself. “So! What are you doing now y/n?” These questions usually made you nervous, but your disinterest in their opinion of you kept your tone calm and confident, as you explained your studies and the woman hums in response, only for them to go back to criticizing your mothers decor and forgetting your existence once again.
Hours pass and the house grows darker and candles are lit in front of you. You were sinking into the couch with wine in hand, you sipped wishing it was something stronger. Your cousin is eyeing the glass, probably wondering if he could sneak some alcohol. Honestly if you weren’t getting quite comfortable on the couch you may have helped him, just to see what happens. You smirked to yourself at the thought of the drunk boy making a big fool of himself, not that anyone would care that much, but it may liven up the mood. Just then three knocks were heard from the door. Everyone looked around in confusion, mentally counting the guests. Where more expected? Your mother peaked through the curtains.
“It’s the new neighbors. Ugh, I don't know, they creep me out. Aren’t they a bit creepy y/n?” She asked you with a mocking smile. Creepy was your mothers word for a little… queer.
“I have never seen them, so I don't know.”
You answered shortly, but secretly started to get interested. In your mind you were now expecting maybe two gay men. You were excited! You had been out as bisexual since high school. Your parents didn’t hate it, but they liked to avoid the topic.
“They live together… just them” your aunt said in a low voice, shivering with a disgusted face. That was all you needed. You got up and walked to the door “coming!” You exclaimed. Then chuckled as it was quite out of character for you to want to open the door. Nick stumbled to his feet and followed you out of the living room. Your parents most certainly expected you to small talk and then send them away politely, which was a fair assumption, you weren’t the social kind. However tonight you had other plans.
Your hands were almost shaky as you grabbed the door handle. Damn, you sure were deprived of excitement. You tried your best to open the door in a calm and collected manner. As the door slides open, you see two women standing on the porch, shivering slightly. They were younger, older than you, but half the age of most of your neighbors.
“Hey! I’m sorry to disturb you, we just moved in across the street and just wanted to say hi.” The brunette spoke with a friendly tone, the redhead seemed less interested in being there. Still she stretched out her hands where she held a tin of cookies. Oh, dear they baked? You thought to yourself. Feeling guilt for how poorly they were about to be treated by the rest of the neighbors.
“Hi..” you attempted to speak but seemed to have lost your voice. You cleared your throat and tried again.
“Thank you! Oh wow…” You marveled as you grabbed the gift, but were cut off by Nick eagerly running into the hall almost crashing into the wall. Had he been drinking? You thought to yourself and could have sworn the brunette gave away a small giggle as if she had heard your thought.
“Hey…. um Nick” He reached out his hand towards the women. You rolled your eyes at him, knowing him he would be drooling over them the rest of the night.
“Right!” you cut him off. “I am y/n.” you smiled at them. Gaining a soft smile from the brunette, that had you melting inside. The redhead gave you a look now slightly intrigued or so it seemed, she was quite hard to read.
“Wanda.” The brunette said “And this is Natasha” She gestured to the shorter woman, who gave you a tight lipped smile only for it to disappear as she glanced to your side.
“Is he alright?” Natasha spoke with a slight smirk. It took you a second to register, since it was the first time you had heard her voice. It was deep, but sweet and it made you just a bit unsteady. looking over to where Natasha had motioned, you saw Nick now leaning against the wall and mumbling nonsense. You had seen him drunk before, he was quite the lightweight and slightly dramatic. You gestured for him to go sit down and he followed order, probably too dizzy to argue.
“He’ll be fine. I’m sorry” you gave them an apologetic smile.
“Um, we are having a little holiday party, if you’d like to come in, some other neighbors are here?”You spoke, trying to sound friendly, but not pushy.
“Oh, n..” Natasha started, but was cut off by Wanda who swiftly accepted the invitation.
“Come on in! you must be freezing.” you said attempting, but failing to contain your excitement.
〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️
You were surprised at how smoothly the night actually went. The people at the party seemed to lose some of their judgement for the two women. Which didn’t necessarily surprise you, seeing as Wanda was quite hard to dislike. Natasha had found a seat in the very same spot you had previously occupied on the couch, which made you smirk. You walked over to her deciding that you were going to try to strike up a conversation. As you stopped in front of her, her eyes slowly scanned over you and then finally up to your eyes. They were green and absolutely gorgeous you thought, but tried to stay focused on your mission.
“These parties are better when you have had a few.” you said jokingly.
“Oh, really?” Natasha quirked an eyebrow at you.
“No, but it can’t hurt, right?” you laughed, which actually made Natasha chuckle slightly, giving you some confidence.
“Well what are we having?” Natasha said, in a tone that almost seemed daring.
“Well, there is wine and beer over there, but for our special guests I can always arrange something.” you said, wiggling your eyebrow.
“I’m listening.” She said, smirking. You take a few steps and motion for her to follow. The two of you make your way up the stairs to your room. You had felt so confident in the living room just then, but once left alone with Natasha with her eyes all on you, you struggled to breath.
“Wow, and here I thought you were just trying to offer me a drink.” The redhead mocked with a slight chuckle, looking between you and the bed. A nervous laugh escaped your lips as you slowly turned red, which she seemed to find quite amusing.
“Here, it um.. is” You say, trying to divert the attention, to the bottle of whiskey now in your hand. Her eyes went to the bottle seemingly impressed. You walked towards the door, where Natasha was, leaning against the wall.
“Why don’t we stay up here?” Natasha spoke, giving you no time to respond before walking in and plopping down on your bed.
“Oh, um… I have no glasses up here.. I.. guess we could drink from the bottle?” you spoke carefully. Not that you weren’t used to that. Being a college student, who enjoyed alcohol a fair bit, you rarely had time for cups.
“Fine by me котенок.” She smiled. Was that russian? Before you had the chance to ask, a voice appeared behind you.
“There you are, sweet thing.” It was Wanda. You assumed she was talking to Natasha, but you honestly weren’t sure. She walked in and sat down next to her girlfriend, with a smile. As they were both looking up at you now, you suddenly felt a little embarrassed, standing there with the open whiskey bottle in hand.
“I hope Nat’s being nice to you” she glanced at her girlfriend seemingly scanning for mischief.
“Of course I am” Nat exclaimed with fake hurt in her voice as Wanda rolled her eyes at her.
“Sweet, котенок here, was just sharing her whiskey with me. And since she is probably not old enough to have bought that herself, it is quite the gesture.” Natasha smirked at the last sentence as it made your cheeks red.
“Well then, what about me!” Wanda said furrowing her brows and holding out her hand, motioning to the bottle, breaking the tension nat had created and making all three laugh. Giving the bottle to Wanda your hands slightly touched sending a shiver down your back.
“Thank you sweetheart, mommy’s had a long day.” She said before taking the bottle to her lips. Your eyes widened by the statement, it should not have turned you on, but you were once again out of breath. Although you were unable to notice it as you fiddled with your hands trying to clear your mind, Natasha noticed the look on your face.
“You, shy now котенок?” Nat teased. Swallowing hard, you tried your best to search your mind for a response. Before you could Wanda pushed Nat to move slightly and patted at the room between them on the bed, locking eyes with you.
”Come sit малышка.” She said with a sweet smile. You moved over to the bed as you wondered if Wanda too spoke russian? As you sat down you decided to ask, but were stopped by wanda shoving the bottle into your hands. You took a swig and scrunched your nose as the liquor hit your tongue.
“Too much for you?” Nat teased grabbing the bottle from you with a raised eyebrow. Her gaze was intimidating and you dared not keep eye contact for long. instead you looked at your hands as you fiddled with your ring.
“Be nice natty.” Wanda glared at the readhead, then quickly shifted her eyes to you. Her gaze softened as she looked over you.
“Don’t listen too much to her, she likes to tease.” Wanda said with a sweet tone, placing a finger under your chin raising it, so you met her eyes.
“Sweet thing, you have to come over sometime. Nat and I would love to get to know you better.” She spoke.
“Oh, yes. We could always use an extra set of hands, especially pretty little once like yours.” Natasha smirked, now running her finger over your hand examining it.
“Wha..?” you stuttered.
“You know, around the house, so much to do when you have just moved in.” She said, wiggling her eyebrows and laughing at your wide eyed expression.
“Why? What went through your mind котенок?” Nat laughed, keeping her intense gaze. you simply sat confused and widened, unable to gather your thoughts.
“Well it’s late we better get going honey.” Nat said to Wanda with her eyes still on you. Wanda agreed and although you wanted to protest you simply couldn’t move. The two women were on their way out of the room when you finally managed to regain control over your body.
“Mo- Wanda.” You spoke, embarrassed by the slip up, but determined to follow through. Which Natasha couldn’t help but chuckle at, unable to contain her amusement. Wanda on the other hand looked even more pleased than Nat did.
“Yes, котенок?” She walked over to you, stopping just in front of where you sat.
“What does that word mean?” you asked timidly shifting your eyes from wanda to nat, whose face no longer held a smug look, but rather one of intrigue.
“Kitten.” Wanda states placing a soft hand on your cheek. You blush at the touch and at the nickname.
“Why don’t you come over tomorrow kitten? We’ll make you dinner and find some good use for those pretty little hands of yours” Natasha spoke, from the other side of the room. Your eyes come back to wanda, who looks at you, head tilted to the side.
“Doesn’t that sound good, baby girl.” She whispers, stroking your cheek before placing a small kiss on your nose. You nod as you could not think of a better way to spend the next day, even if they were planning on “putting you to work”, whatever that means. All you knew was that you wanted to be around them more.
“Oh, and котенок, what kind of mommy would I be if I let you keep this.” She said taking the bottle out of your hand and walking out of the room, leaving you alone on the bed.
Your head spun, either from the alcohol finally hitting you or possibly just from the intoxication of the two women who just left.
Wait?! Did she say mommy? You thought to yourself. And did they just steal my whiskey?!

How would you say fandom culture has changed over the years? What are some differences you notice between older and younger fandom folks?
I’ve been thinking for a while about how to answer this, and I’m not sure I have a really good answer, but I’m going to try.
I’ve been in fandom since approximately 1995. Maybe 1994. At that point, the world wide web was a relatively new part of the internet, and the fandoms I was in had most of their activity on privately-hosted mailing lists (predating eGroups/OneList/Yahoo Groups) and on Usenet newsgroups, with fiction beginning to be available on websites as part of either fandom-specific or pairing-specific archives as well as authors’ individual pages. Fanfiction.net did not yet exist. LiveJournal did not exist. AO3 definitely did not exist. If you wanted real-time chat, there was IRC. I was coming in basically at the tail end of zine fandom; zines were no longer the only way of distributing fanfiction, as fandom started to move online. So I have a selection of zines from 90s-era Western media fandoms but even by then zines weren’t where I was doing most of my reading.
I think in terms of generally “what it was like to be in fandom,” the big-picture stuff hasn’t changed. Fandom still produces creative fanwork and likes to, y’know, get together and talk about fandom. Also, almost every fight or complaint that fandom has about something is a thing that has been going on for actual years. People complain that, say, the kudos button is ruining comment culture because back in the LJ days the only way you could comment on a story was, well, by leaving an actual comment, or sending an email on a mailing list, and this might mean that people who would have otherwise commented have left a kudos instead. But back in the LJ and mailing list days, people were complaining that commenting was going downhill since the days of zines, when in order to comment on a story you had to write a real paper letter and mail it and because you had to do that, the quality of feedback was so much better than you got nowadays because people could just dash off a quick email or comment. You get the idea. Top/bottom wars are not new either. Pairing wars are not new. If you’ve been in fandom a while, you will pretty much have seen all the fights already. I think one thing that is new, though, is the fandom awareness of things like privilege and intersectionality and various -isms, as well as things like “providing warnings might be nice” (do you know how much unwarned deathfic I have read? a lot!) and I sure won’t say we’re perfect at any of this now, but I think fandom is trying way way more about all that stuff than it used to.
There are some fights we actually don’t have anymore, as far as I can tell. I feel like it’s been years since I’ve seen the “real person fiction is wrong” battle, but also I don’t hang out in a whole lot of RPF fandoms, so it’s possible that’s still going and I just don’t see it.
There also used to be a recurring debate about whether gay relationships that were canonical were slash or not. When slash started, obviously this wasn’t a question because there weren’t canonical gay relationships in fandoms, period. But as gay characters began to appear in media, people started to wonder “does slash mean all same-sex relationships, or does slash mean only non-canonical same-sex relationships?” Now, you may be reading this and think that sounds like an incredibly weird thing to get hung up on, but that’s because what appears to have happened is that the term “ship” (originally from X-Files Mulder/Scully fandom) has, as far as I can tell, come up and eaten most of the rest of the terminology. Now people will just say, “oh, I ship that.” For any pairing, gay or not, canonical or not. Fandom seems to have decided that for the most part it no longer actually needs a term specific to same-sex relationships as a genre.
Similarly, there are a few genres of fic that we used to have also pretty much don’t exist anymore. There are also plenty of genres that are well-entrenched now that are also extremely recent -- A/B/O comes to mind. But there are some kinds of fic we don’t write a lot of now. Like, I haven’t seen smarm in years! I also haven’t seen We’re Not Gay We Just Love Each Other in a while. There was also a particular style of slash writing where you’d basically have to explain, in detail, what made you think that these particular characters could be anything other than straight. You’d have to motivate this decision. You’d have to look at their canonical heterosexual relationships and come up with a way to explain why all those had happened in order to reconcile how this one guy could have romantic feelings for another guy. When had he figured out he wasn’t straight? Who might he have been with before? How does he interact with people in ways that make you think he’s not straight? That kind of thing. You had to, essentially, show your work. And these days a lot of fanfic is just like, “Okay, Captain America is bisexual, let’s go!” It’s... different.
Fandom also used to skew older, is my sense. A lot older. I don’t know, actually, if it really was older, but I get the sense now that there are some younger people who are surprised that adults are still in fandom. I have seen people saying these days that they think they’re too old for fanfiction because they are not in middle school anymore. And I think a lot of this has to do with the fact that the barriers to access fandom are a lot lower than they used to be. You used to basically have to be an adult with disposable income (or know an adult with disposable income who was willing to help you out; but even then if you were reading explicit fiction you also had to swear you were 18+, usually by sending in an age statement to whoever you were buying the zine from or to the mods of the list you wanted to join, so a lot of fandom was very much age-gated). Internet access was not widely available. Even if you had internet access, you maybe didn’t have your own email address, so you couldn’t sign up for mailing lists; free email providers didn’t exist. If you wanted to buy zines, you had to have money to buy them. If you wanted to go to cons, you had to be able to afford the cost of the con, travel to the con, et cetera. If you wanted to have a website you had to know HTML. Social media did not exist. You want to draw art? Guess what, you’re probably drawing it on paper! You might be able to upload a picture to your website if you have a digital camera or a scanner, but both of those things are expensive, and also a lot of people don’t have the capability or the money to download pictures from the internet (some people have data caps with overage charges, and some people have text-only connections!), so they won’t get to see it. Maybe you can sell your piece at a con! You want to make a fanvid? We called them songvids, but, anyway, you know how you’re doing that? You’re going to hook two VCRs together and smash the play and record buttons very fast! If you want anyone else to watch them, you are either making them a tape personally and mailing it to them or bringing your vids to a convention. Maybe you can digitize them and upload them, but it’s going to take people hours to download them!
(Every three hours my ISP would kick me off the internet and I’d have to dial in again. If it was a busy time of day, it might take me 20 or 30 minutes to get a connection again. And that was assuming no one else in the house needed to use the phone line. Imagine if your modem went out every three hours now.)
And now, for the cost of my internet connection, I can read pretty much whatever fanfiction I want, whenever I want it. I can see all the fanart I want! I can watch vids! Podfic exists now! Fanmixes exist! Gifsets and moodboards exist! If I want to write fic I can write it with programs that are completely free, and as soon as I post it everyone in the entire world can read it. If I want to draw or make vids that may require some additional investment, but I may also be able to do it with things I already have. Do you have any idea how good we all have it?
There are a couple of kinds of fan activity that don’t seem to exist anymore, though, and I miss them. I know that roleplaying still goes on, but I feel like these days most people who do real-time text roleplay have switched to things like Discord. I know that in the LJ days, RP communities were popular. But I really miss MU*s (MUDs, MUSHes, MOOs, MUXes..), which were servers for real-time text-based RP with a bunch of... hmm... features to aid RP. There were virtual rooms with text descriptions, and objects in virtual rooms with descriptions, and your character had a description, and they could interact with the objects as well as with other characters, and you could program things to change descriptions or emit various kinds of text or take you to different rooms, and so on. Just to, y’know, enhance the atmosphere. It was fun and it was where I learned to RP and I’m sad they’re pretty much gone now.
I also don’t think I see a lot of fanfiction awards in fandoms. Wonder where they went.
Going back to the previous point, the barriers to actually consuming the canon you are fannish about are way, way, way lower now. You can pretty much take it for granted that if right now someone tells you about a shiny new fandom, there will be a way to read that book or watch that show or movie right now. Possibly for free! Of course you can watch it! Why wouldn’t you be able to?
This was absolutely, absolutely not the case before. I’m currently in Marvel Comics fandom. If there is a comic I want to read, I can read it right now on the internet. I have subscribed to Marvel Unlimited and I can read pretty much every comic that is older than three months old; the newer ones cost extra money. But I can do it all from the comfort of my own home right now. I was also, actually, in Marvel Comics fandom in the nineties. If I wanted to read a comic, I had to go to a comic book store and hope they had it in stock; if they didn’t, I had to try another store. Not a lot of comics were available in trade paperback and they definitely weren’t readable on the internet. I used to read a lot of Gambit h/c fic set after Uncanny X-Men #350. I never found a copy of UXM #350. I still haven’t! But I did eventually read it on Unlimited.
Being in TV show fandoms also had similar challenges. Was the show you were watching still on the air? No? Then you’d better hope you could find it in reruns, or know someone who had tapes of it that they could copy for you, otherwise you weren’t watching that show. It was, I think, pretty common for people to be in fandoms for shows they hadn’t seen, because they had no way to see the show, but they loved all the fanfic. The Sentinel had a whole lot of fans like that, both because I think it took a while for it to end up in reruns and because overseas distribution was probably poor. So you’d get people who read the fic and wrote fic based on the other fic they’d read, which meant that you got massive, massive amounts of fanon appearing that people just assumed was in the show because it was a weirdly specific detail that appeared in someone’s fic once. Like “Jim and Blair’s apartment has a small water heater” (not actually canonical) or “Blair is a vegetarian” (there’s an episode where his mother visits and IIRC cooks him one of his favorite meals, which is beef tongue).
Like, I was in The Professionals fandom for years. I read all the fic. I hadn’t seen the show. As far as I know, it never aired in the US, and it certainly never had any kind of US VHS or DVD release. I’d seen a couple songvids. I eventually saw a couple episodes in maybe 2003, and that was because my dad special-ordered a commercial VHS tape from the UK and paid someone to convert it from PAL to NTSC. I didn’t get to see the whole show until several years later when I got a region-free DVD player someone in fandom sent me burned copies of the UK DVD releases and then I special-ordered the commercial release of the DVDs from the UK myself. But if I were a new fan and wanted to watch Pros right now? It is on YouTube! For free!
I think also one of the things about fandom that’s not immediately evident to new fans is the way in which it is permanent and/or impermanent. There are probably people whose first fannish experience is on Tumblr or who only read fanfic on FFN and who have no idea what they would do if either site, say, just shut down. But if you’ve been in fandom a while, you’ve been through, say, Discord, Tumblr, Twitter, Pillowfort, Imzy, DW, JournalFen, LJ, GeoCities, IRC, mailing lists. And sure, if Tumblr closed, it would be inconvenient. But fandom would pack up and move somewhere else. You would find it again. It would, eventually, be okay. Similarly, if you’ve been in a lot of fandoms, if you’ve made a lot of friends, drifting through fandoms is like that. You’ll make a friend in 1998 because you were in the same fandom, and then you might go your own ways, and ten years later you might be in another fandom with them again! It happens.
But the flip side of that is that I think a lot of older fans have learned not to trust in the permanence of any particular site. If you like a story, you save it as soon as you read it. If you like a piece of art, you save it. If you like a vid, you save it. Because you don’t know when the site it’s on will be gone for good. I have, like, twenty years of lovingly-curated fanfic. And I feel like people who have only been in fandom since AO3 existed might not understand how much AO3 is a game-changer compared to what we had before. It’s a site where you can put your fic up and you don’t have to worry that the webhost is going out of business, or that the site might delete your work because they don’t allow gay fiction or explicit fiction or fiction written in second person or fiction for fandoms where the creator doesn’t like fanfiction, or whatever. Because all of those things have absolutely happened. But, I mean, I still save pretty much everything I like, even on AO3, just in case.
So, basically, yeah, fandom is a whole lot more accessible than it used to be. I think fandom is pretty much still fandom, but it’s a lot easier to get into, and that has made it way more open to people who wouldn’t have been able to be in fandom before. There is so, so much more now than there ever was before, and I think that’s great.

There has been a lot of biphobia going around with the release of Urban Legends #6, so I've decide to make somewhat of a critical post analysis both of what was said in the story and what's begun to be said outside of it.
First and foremost, wanting bi/pan/omni/poly characters and heroes is valid. Wanting gay/lesbian heroes is also valid. The discourse happening is a reflecting on the lack of representation there is as a whole within the DC world.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Let's start with what happening in this issue
1. Tim expressed excitement, happiness, and interest by the idea of going on a date with another boy, Bernard. This story has shown that Tim in some way has felt lost and that accepting this date is also a way of him accepting himself.
Tim is interested in datings boys. That's a fact.
2. Tim declares his love for Stephanie. While this can be interpreted as him loving her as someone other than a romantic partner, he says that he didn't understand why he wanted and did need to feel to break up with her. This implies that, at least up until very, very recently, he was romantic interested and attracted to Steph.
(I think it should also be noted that Bernard shares similar features to Steph, such as having blonde hair and blue eyes)
I would like to focus on Tim's comment "If she didn't understand, you sure don't" and look at previous issues in Urban Legends
Tumblr media Tumblr media
We don't really have a timeline for breakup and the aftermath since it all happened off-panel but my guess is that it wasn't too long ago. Steph is clearly trying to talk to Tim and Tim doesn't seem to want to speak to anyone. I think this is important to note because it implies that Tim didn't know how to express what he was feeling or going through to Steph. Obviously, and this should go without saying, you don't need to tell anyone you're queer or questioning unless you want to. But it makes me wonder how can Steph not understand what Tim's going through when there isn't a chance for them to talk.
I want to be clear, I am a major Stephanie Brown fan yet even if I wasn't, I highly doubt that Stephanie will be written as homophobic or biphobic. She has been shown various times to be supportive and friends with various people who are apart of the LGBTQIAP+ community. Stephanie, like Tim and many other characters, has also been the subject of queer-coding - most recently in Future State: Batigrls

Lastly, these of are some the response Meghan Ftizmartin (the author) has made. She hasn't corrected anyone's interpretation of Tim being bisexual. Nothing has been stated in the actually text but I think this indicates that Tim Drake is bisexual.
I hope this is helpfully for all those who are wondering. As someone who identifies along the multi-sexual spectrum, I want to see this open more doors for queer-plotlines and characters.
Edit: I suggest reading Meghan’s interview with Polygon, as it helps clarify why Tim’s sexuality wasn’t directly labeled in this issue. She references Tim’s feelings for both Steph and Bernard as real and current. It’s clear we are going on a journey with Tim as he figures things out.
We should also keep in mind that DC may be waiting to officially refer to Tim as bi or gay due to non-comic media with Tim that was finished but has yet to be released prior to this issue. Tim is set to appear in season 3 of Titans starting this month and most likely will appear in Young Justice: Phantoms starting in October. Both shows have been in production for a while and before this story was even green-lighted by DC themselves. They probably don’t want to confirm that a character’s sexuality in one media only for it to be different in another media.

thoughts on bi!zuko? it's one of my biggest hcs
IN THIS HOUSE, WE LOVE AND SUPPORT Bi!Zuko
headcanons:
I know that there’s comic stuff about Sozin being homophobic, but I am within my rights to ignore it. If people can move rocks with their mind and if dragons can exist, there can be normalized gay people damn it.
So it’s not really a big deal to question your sexuality or to be gay/bi, but within the Fire Nation upper class you don’t really talk about it. There’s a heteronormativity problem, but not aggressive homophobia.
When he’s younger, Zuko doesn’t really think about anyone like that. He’s got firebending training, sword training, and then he’s crowned prince all of a sudden, so he’s kind of got other stuff going on.
Mai has a crush on him when she’s 12 and he’s 13 and he starts to develop some puppy-crush feelings from her.
They do a cute pre-teen date where they play with knives outside the palace and climb on roofs (Maiko does parkour on their dates, I don’t make the rules)
Mai’s really the only person he’s had feelings for by this point (again, he’s 13 and he’s been pretty busy being a prince and all to think about that sort of thing)
Then the whole banishment thing happens and he really does not have time to start thinking about those things. Hunting the avatar is a full time gig. Angst baby Zuko does not have time to sit and wonder if he thinks boy are cute.
(aside from this one time when his ship docked at this port and there was a cute sales boy at the shop they got their supplies from who made 14 year old Zuko blush just a little too hard. He made the decision to put a pin in that for later)
Then Zuko’s on a ferry to Ba Sing Se and there’s this crime boy aggressively flirting with him. The avatar hunt is on hold. It’s later, so Zuko takes that mental pin out.
Zuko can have a little ferry make out sess with mouth wheat crime boy, as a treat (let this boy have some semi-normal teenage experiences damn it)
To Jet’s credit, he’s a good kisser. But Zuko notes that he tastes like grass.
And you know, that whole thing didn’t end well.
Not your usual experience to have the guy who was your bisexual awakening burst into your work and (rightly) accuse you and your uncle of being firebenders and then attack you with hook swords, but Zuko’s never had the best luck with anything.
Jet gets arrested and Zuko doesn’t see him again, but he can’t really ignore that whole ‘oh man I guess I am into guys’ thing anymore. And it’s not like he’s got other stuff to do in Ba Sing Se besides make tea and stave off Iroh’s shopaholic tendencies.
Immediately after the Jet incident, Zuko’s more on his guard about potential threats, but what do you know? That girl just thought you were cute you paranoid dumbass.
He goes on the date with Jin and it’s awkward as hell, but he does like it when she kisses him. Honestly, he’s not really sure what he’s supposed to feel. This newfound attraction to guys is still in the back of his brain and Zuko just never thought about it seriously before.
After the date he starts letting himself take more notice of guys and girls in the teashop now that he’s pretty sure people aren’t onto them about being firebenders.
And you know.... good looking customers are good looking customers. Guys and girls.
But you know, Zuko is the king of not knowing who the fuck he is, so it’s still confusing,
And then the avatar pops back up and Zuko’s got a different identity crisis to focus on. The boy has a morality coma to get to and questioning his sexuality is put on the back burner for a bit.
Post-morality coma, Zuko’s feeling way more comfortable. Not just in terms of letting himself be happy in Ba Sing Se serving tea with his uncle, but with his sexuality as well.
Zuko thinks about his experiences and maybe, just maybe, he could be a teenager who goes on normal teenager dates and has normal teenage relationships, maybe with guys or girls. He lets himself have that notion for a little while.
He considers telling Iroh, but not quite yet.
He doesn’t get the chance after everything happens in the catacombs.
Then it’s the case where he has a more general identity crisis to deal and just kind of pushes the realization that he’s bi to the back of his mind.
Zuko and Mai get together and Zuko remembers how much he liked her when they were younger. And with everything else stressing him out, she’s there to help him feel like less of a stranger in his own home.
(Mai’s also Zuko’s best friend, regardless of any romance)
At Ember Island he does have jealousy issues, but later when Mai asks him why he was so fixated on that guy at the party Zuko starts describing exactly why those guys were attractive and how he logically would have been at least a little jealous “I mean come on Mai did you see that one guy’s biceps? I’m only partially blind”
Mai listens to this and just goes “do you want to ... tell me something?”
Zuko has a “oh yeah I’m pretty sure I’m bi, forgot to mention it, had other stuff going on” moment
Mai, who was taught to be proper and that her options were to go into politics or marry some man above her station, is now considering that both? Both is an option? Maybe?
Cut to Zuko when he joins the gaang. His bisexuality is just kind of something he doesn’t think is a big deal and doesn’t mention it.
On the air balloon to the Boiling Rock, Zuko asks Sokka about Yue and they end up talking about relationships.
Zuko mentions that he had this brief thing with a guy in Ba Sing Se but it didn’t really end well
Sokka: “wait did you say guy? I thought you had a girlfriend?”
the SWT is generally pretty accepting, but Sokka spent most of his life living in a village without many boys his age and didn’t really consider that as a possibility.
(Sokka then considers how much he thought about the Boulder after watching the Earth Rumble VI match and thinks ‘yeah there’s probably something there’)
Sokka asks Zuko more about bisexuality. Most of Zuko’s answers are along the lines of “Sokka go to sleep I don’t know who the Boulder is and I don’t care about his badger-mole tattoo”
Suki, Zuko, and Sokka form the unofficial ‘cool and bi club’
Zuko doesn’t officially come out to Iroh, but Iroh catches him looking at Sokka one day a while after he and Mai broke up (deciding they were better as friends) and makes a comment about how Zuko needs to take time for himself.
“Lord Zuko, you should not spend your teenage years with nothing but work. Go out, find a nice young lady to take out.” “Uncle...” “..or young man”
And yeah, a few years after the war ends and a while after he and Mai end their relationship, Zuko’s not really in the position to deny that he thinks that Sokka is inhumanely attractive and funny and kind
But yeah
bi!Zuko ftw
