Chronology of events for my post-canon 200k+ Yuri!!! on Ice fic series

One inevitability of writing such a massive post-canon Yuri!!! on Ice fic series that spans 5 years -- including 2 different Olympic Games (2018 PyeongChang Games and the 2022 Beijing Games) -- is that I've found myself at times struggling with second-guessing the continuity of events that I've built into my fic-verse ('Gold's On The Inside, Elevated My Feet'). This is especially the case b/c in my series, the 2018 Winter Olympics were marked by a scandal (note: not doping) that catalyzed a ton of events that followed in the realm of Yuuri and Viktor's relationship, and in the world of elite/competitive figure skating in general.

It got me thinking recently that it might be helpful to post the chronology of events (both personal, as well as the sports politics-related) that I've been working from, beginning from the time Viktor was born. My hope is to post this soon as part 6 of the series, and prior to uploading Chapter 15 (which, if you're new to my work, will detail the Men's Singles Short Program at the 2022 Beijing Games).

Other authors that have worked on stories spanning multiple big events or time periods: how do you manage to keep everything consistent and ensure that your continuity remains throughout? And, have you found it helpful to share your timeline of events in some kind of listed chronology for your readers?

I think I've been doing a decent job so far, but every so often I'm like "Oh wait, damnit, who did I write as the silver medalist as the 2021 World Figure Skating Championships, again?" or, "Hmmm...I originally noted that Yuuri and Viktor would move to Fukuoka, Japan in 'summer 2019', but when, specifically did I mean???"

Yuri!!! On Cards: The Final Master Post

And so it concludes. With the work of so many artists and writers from the Yuri on the Web Discord server, working together across time (zones) and space (continents), the full deck has been assembled, both as art and stories. This post will include links to everything.

A big THANK YOU to every artist and writer on this project for participating and letting all us mortals enjoy your wonderful works. It's been such a pleasure to do this project. And thank you to everyone who indulged my dumb idea initially. Me making an entire deck by myself would've been dumb (my poor hand) but with all your help this became such a fun group project where no hands were lost.

A special thanks to Lil for being the co-admin on this project, managing everything AO3 because I am useless at that and being there for me to ping pong ideas and desicions off of. I'm not a very desicive person on my own so I really appreciated having someone to share my thoughts with.

Another special thanks to Nic for also being co-admin assembling the entire deck, including making the frames used on every card and making them look damn good. And also for making all the non-picture cards to complete the project. I bow down to you, bestie.

I'm re-reading His Was Gold by AL_KILLER. This is an AU where Victor is the Tsar and Yuuri was a boy who escaped Japan dreaming to be a dancer but was enslaved and ultimately became one of the many concubines in the Tsar palace. Even though is not my first time reading, the effect still is the same. Tearing up, feeling anxious and scared, but then oh how it hits when Tsar Victor and his beloved dancer meet at the middle of miscommunication, pain, desire, longing and shared loneliness. Also each chapter is accompanied with a playlist and there are pinterest boards for scenery, characters, clothing and more. The level of care and detail in this is magnificent.

An absolute recommendation, if you are looking for a weekend book.

Up to 180K words on my post-canon Yuri!!! on Ice Olympic Games fic

If you're looking for something long/immersive to read in the Yuri!!! on Ice universe, I've now reached 180K words on my post-canon, married Viktuuri 2018/2022 Olympic Games fic, "Gold's On The Inside, Elevated My Feet".

I know many people aren't into long fics (especially if they're WIPs), but if you don't mind that, I hope you'll consider checking it out, or my other post-canon fics, of which I've got several.

My story (and the larger series that it's part of) covers two Olympic Games -- the 2018 and 2022 Games -- and delves into the aftermath of a scandal (note: not doping) that occurred at the 2018 Olympics, which had major impacts on Yuuri, Viktor, Yurio and others. Despite how heavy it sounds, it's largely a fluffy story about support and friendship, and explores the question of "how do Yuuri and Viktor care for one another long after canon ends?"

It switches point of view, so you get a chance to see things from both Viktor and Yuuri's (and other characters') vantage points.

One reason I'm so attached to the idea of writing post-canon Viktuuri is that I've always been fascinated by the idea of how their relationship would evolve over time, and, specifically, how their trust in one another would grow once they've faced hardships together. In canon, we see how Viktor supports Yuuri into growing into a more self-assured skater, and we get the sense that Yuuri supports Viktor in a number of ways, as well.

But I wanted to explore this in depth, specifically that latter point, about Yuuri growing into supporting Viktor, too. This is a concept I focus on in the main fic, as well as the other stories in my overall series.

I hope you'll give it a shot!

I'm including an excerpt below from the chapter I just uploaded, which covers the Men's Short Program at the 2022 Olympics, from Yurio's point-of-view.

--------- “It’s fine, old man…don’t worry about me,” Yuri mumbled, realizing that both Taku and Viktor were standing in front of him. “Katsudon will be up soon.”

At the subsequent hum of murmured Russian, he realized that Lilia was still nearby, but hovering behind him instead of in front of him. She seemed to be passing something to Viktor, and then he sensed a wad of tissues being pressed to his cheek.

“Don’t worry about that right now. Let me focus on you,” his coach said, sounding firm.

Yuri was just glad that neither he nor Taku had made an attempt to hug him; if they had, he had no doubt he would have completely broken down.

“And now, we have our final group of skaters in the Men’s Short Program event! First up, in group 5, and representing Thailand, please welcome…”

“Phichit Chulanont!”

The rink commentator’s voices boomed out, along with thunderous applause. Yuri wasn’t even aware that Viktor and Yuuri had been having a silent conversation of glances and hand gestures until Katsudon stepped up next to him, in the spot Taku had just been in.

“Yura…I know it’s not quite the same as petting Goya, but give it a try: put your hand on Meni’s head,” Yuuri urged, in whispered Russian. “We can share him.”

His friend/rinkmate was cradling the pristinely white toy poodle much like he’d hold a baby, and Yuri gave him a bit of a baleful glare; Meni might be around her size, but he was a rather poor substitute for Potya. He didn’t even have to look behind him to picture how her lips were pursed in disapproval. Not wanting to invite a lecture, Yuri reached his hand out and reluctantly placed it on top of the pup’s head, in between his ears.

And of course, it was nothing like petting his perfect Potya; he cringed in disgust as Meni immediately tried to lick every single one of his fingers until Viktor began to murmur in a sing-song tone to “settle down, settle down Meni-moppet”.

About a half-minute later, Meni did in fact settle down, and even though Phichit’s performance was clearly going on in the background – as evident from the raucous cheers and screams – Yuri found, somehow, that he was able to block out the noise and just focus on the warm, slightly vibrating body underneath his hand.

Amazingly, once the geezer had implored him to relax, Meni seemed quite content to keep absolutely still, only panting happily under the attention of the surrounding trio of bodies.

It was…

This and its accompanying information posts are intended as an overview for the creators participating in this project but if you are but a curious little Tumblrina, feel free to follow along. Your intruige is highly appreciated.

A standard deck of playing cards, meaning 52 cards + 2 jokers, is being created as a big collaborative project open to everyone in the Yuri on the Web Discord server. Every picture card, meaning Kings, Queens, Knights, Aces and Jokers have been assigned a Yuri!!! On Ice character.

Befitting of the cards in such a deck, the major theme is Royalty and the interplay of the four kingdoms divided by suit, primarily within but also across. The kingdoms and assigned cards are as follows:

Characters will be assigned in the YOI CARDS thread in the yoi-general channel on the server so if you wish to illustrate or write for a certain card, tell Arrow or Lil and you'll be noted as in charge of that artwork or story. You can also see which characters are taken in both categories in the thread. Once every character has been assigned they will be posted, one post for art assignments here and another for writing assignments here.

It's also highly encouraged that artists and especially the writers within the same suit or with connected characters (i.e. Yuuri and Viktor) reach out to one another and work together in whatever capacity they wish. The court of each realm is interconnected after all, each title having their own roles in the web of characters.

The deadline for the pieces, both drawn and written, is the 31st of August and the final compiled version of the deck and accompanying stories will be posted on the 8th or 9th of September in a master post of links. The artworks will also be reblogged in full from the respective artists' blogs and links to any on other platforms can be found in the master list. Links to all stories written for this will also be linked in said list.
