I'm sorry for waiting so long with this, but ultimately it worked out well because I need an excuse to write something happy tonight!

So I had this idea once upon a time of what if there was a friendship between Thorin and Legolas pre-fall of Erebor...

Thorin stood next to his father, trying to resist the urge to sigh. He gripped his sleeves and squirmed in place until his father’s firm hand landed on his shoulder. He looked up at the older dwarf who only gave him a small shake of his head. Even though pouting was not ‘princely behavior’, Thorin could still feel his brows pulling together against his will. It’s just that this was so booooooring. 

“On behalf of Mirkwood, Erebor welcomes: King Thranduil and Prince Legolas, to welcome Princess Dis to the world.”

Thorin felt his father tense beside him, and there were grumbles from the rest of the royal dwarves at having to deal with elves. Thorin, on the other hand, immediately perked up in anticipation. This wasn’t his first encounter with Prince Legolas. When he had come for Frerin’s welcoming, Thorin had thrown his wooden sword at him because he had heard elves had super fast reflexes and he wanted to test it out. 

Of course, Thorin had gotten in trouble for it, but once Legolas realized Thorin was not trying to attack him, he ended up forming a game of sorts with Thorin. Thorin would pretend to shoot an arrow at him, and somehow Legolas always saw, caught the arrow, and was able to shoot it back at him. Their game always ended with Thorin getting a small swat on his backside to behave, but he was convinced he could catch the elf off guard this time.

Thorin waited until Legolas was handing over their gift to his mother for Dis. (He still didn’t understand why a baby needed all these presents.) With his back to Thorin, the dwarf prince saw his chance to strike. Pretending to draw back a bow, he quickly released. With perfect timing, Legolas opened his hand behind his back as if he were catching the arrow. He then made a motion as if he were twirling it around his fingers, before pretending to fire the arrow back. All without having turned around. Thorin still caught the smirk on his face. 

Jumping out of the way, and slightly behind his father, he carefully avoided the imaginary blow. The real one came from the hand around his neck as his adad leaned in close to his ear.

“Thorin, zubdabudê (my tiny lord), I need you to be patient just a little while longer.”

“Okayyyy.” Thorin grumbled trying to shake his hand off.

Thrain gave him a small squeeze before letting go. Thorin sought out his opponent again, only to see he and his father were beating a retreat. A little disappointed and frustrated that their game was ending so soon, Thorin huffed before pulling back his imaginary bow a lot quicker and less sneaky this time. He thought for sure he had him, until Legolas took a step to the side, pretending to catch an arrow as it would have sailed right before his face. Thranduil gave him a confused look before turning back to see the pout on Thorin’s face. Legolas smiled at him and waved goodbye, not even bothering to return his “arrow” until they were almost to the door.

It was so aggravating. Stupid elf.

“Thrain.” Thorin’s mom murmured to her husband.

“Hmm?”

“The elf prince just made the oddest request.”

“What did he say?”

“He wants to offer Thorin archery lessons.”

Thorin perked up in surprise as he looked up at his parents who wore perplexed expressions.

“Adad, can I?” Thorin pleaded, tugging on Thrain’s pant leg.

“We’ll…talk about it later.” 

Thorin went back to standing there, trying not to fidget too badly as he practically vibrated with excitement. A real bow. Surely he would get that pesky, tricky elf then!

My latest hobby is either going on nature walks (hikes? Can you call it that if they're like barely two miles long?) or using my new egg cooker. I'm not sure if eggs can be a hobby, but if I believe it is maybe it can be. My favorite hobby is writing (currently working on a bagginshield fic that will make me zero friends in this fandom but alas the muse's calls must be answered), I mostly learned myself because I rarely let anyone read my work for a long time but have also gotten a lot of help in recent years from the feedback I get<3

I have surgery this afternoon and in an effort to distract myself I am going to send a decent chunk of asks. Partly because I do not know when sitting at the computer will be comfortable for me and sending asks are much easier for me on a computer. I'm really not a jewelry person, though people in my life have gotten me quite a bit as gifts throughout my life. They're always so pretty but I mostly just forget to wear any. I have one necklace from my grandma that has a gold sunflower charm with a glass, tear-drop shape hanging from it (it's filled with some clear liquid and tiny, thin bits of almost white looking rose quartz), it's really pretty and I love her a lot so I wear it when I can remember to.

I have an embarrassing amount of merch from different fandoms. The only things that might be jewelry though are the hair beads I got that have Khuzdul runes on them. Are hair beads jewelry? I'm not sure

Did you ever call your teachers by their first name? If you work in education, do you let the students call you by your first name?

The nibblings were discussing what students would call me if I was a teacher yesterday and it reminded me. When I used to be a substitute I never bothered to introduce myself or write my name on the board, literally just never thought of it. One class I had a girl raise her hand and ask what my name was so I automatically gave her my first name and after a few seconds added my last. There was dead silence in the 8th grade classroom for a good 30 seconds to a minute before she burst out with "we can call you by your first name!?" I was like yeah sure. You would probably not believe how absolutely excited this made the students, I heard my name more times over that class period than I hear it in a year lol. The next school year I was at the high school and hear my name and turn around and it's the girl from that class and she yells Hi then turns to her friends see I told you I wasn't lying!

That's so funny xD The first name teachers are always the cool ones! Sadly, I never got the cool ones. I did have this one physics teacher who no one knew the first name of because for some reason and because we were teenagers and menaces we pestered him about it. He told us if we all got above a C he'd tell us at the end of the year (even though we'd try to guess it, like every day). Turns out his name was Godfrey (all year everyone was hoping for Gaylord, we were sorely disappointed)

imagine: you are chilling in front you your house getting high. along comes an old family friend who you last saw when you were six, you are now in your 50s. after a brief convo where he is kind of a dick to you, he’s like damn you’ve changed :/. and your like yeah bestie it’s been five decades why the fuck are you here. he leaves. later that night a shit ton of people show up and trash your house. just throw and absolute rager. halfway through the family friend from earlier shows up. he announces in full earshot of everyone that he wants you to come with him to rob a bank. you of course say wtf??? one of the people who broke into your house calls you a pussy. another person shoves you a contract which declares if you get shot robbing the bank they will not pay for your funeral. you pass out. when you wake up you find the contract on your table and your house almost completely back to normal. you stare at the contract for a moment and decide, fuck it this is just as a good a midlife crisis than anything.
