(Don't mind me getting excited over your ideas @xoxotifia I'm sleep-deprived and bored. I should not be reblogging things at this hour! I've already had to rewrite this twice because my phone hates me!)

I really wanted to reblog this because xoxotifia explains this so much better than I definitely could! If I were to compare it to my "A.S.A. AU" there are a few things that I would tweak but that's only because I already had a solid image in my head when I was creating my story. (That's just how I world build lol, I hallucinate until I have a story)

They made some really good points that I haven't had the chance to touch on yet. A good example of how this world works (which I'm lowkey mad about) is kind of reflected in the way Zootopia works—Imagine Zootopia but looking more like our world in a sense. Geologically it works the same, cities and countries are in the same places but architecture and agriculture are completely different.

That could also bring up the question of religion in this world. If it exists, is it prominent within different cultures/society? I think it would exist to an extent, everyone will always have their own ideologies and cultures to build upon.

But I don't see myself focusing on that very much except when the Octonauts are exploring, more of a Science-based type of setting y'know? (though I may add a bit of a "fantasy" element to it, who knows?~) Unfortunately I'm way too busy trying to figure out how to draw walruses to take that on at the moment!

(I do really like what xoxotifia said about polar bears and the scouts tho, that was really interesting to read. Not to mention all of the other amazing ideas they left on this post! I'm so glad the people are actually building their own versions of the Octonaut's World! I'm here for all of it tbh! I'm like a vacuum—gonna eat up all of the fandom's headcanons so I can fantasize and forget about the real world)

OCTONAUTS HEADCANONS: WORLD EDITION

HEAVILY BASED ON THIS POST, FULL CREDITS !

— there are parallel cities and countries to our world, and the locations of their major cities and counties are all the same

— most animals live in places close to or in their natural habitat, but cities like London and New York have animals from all over the place mingling (but to a certain level of logic like you’re less likely to see a polar bear or a reindeer living in South America)

— many of the cities have slightly different designs to accommodate for the variety of species living in them

— the world population is split between anthro and non-anthro animals, because the Octonauts are clearly anthro but the animals they rescue aren’t

— there used to be a lot of conflict between the two, but now most places don’t care and are designed to accommodate both kinds of animals (like Tweak and Sandy are friends)

— whether or not predation of other animals (especially the non-anthro) is okay is a pretty heated debate in their society

— it’s possible for some non-anthro animals (most likely mammals) to learn to walk and to use their paws (hands?) like anthro’s but it’s very difficult (and vice versa if an anthro wants to learn to be more like a non-anthro)

— there’s also a United Nations equivalent who are tasked with keeping peace between species— they have a representative for each major species of each biome and with groups such as rainforest or polar regions working as groups, or having one collective vote on large scale issues (they’re also the ones who fund the Octonauts)

— their world is just as, if not more technologically advanced in some areas than ours (I mean hey, they manage to hide whole helmets in small collars!)

— humans never existed so many animals evolved in almost identical ways to fill that niche; some did, but some didn’t, which is why there are non-anthro animals as well

— most of, if not all, the world share a collective language that basically makes cross-species communication easier

— adding: each genus shares a language (with species having, like, slightly different versions, e.g.: wolves and dogs have slightly different pronunciations or slang, but sound very similar when compared to a fox) but all animals are taught the universal language

— like all things, the Octonauts probably have a few haters and enemies (because no world is perfect) and they sometimes have to watch their backs when at ports to resupply

— adding: they probably get into conflict with people who overfish, or people who pollute the ocean or oil rig people

— most animals have extended lifespans that are closer in length to humans

— some objects we use that usually have simple handles have grips, or whole shaped loops for paws to make holding them easier

— coat colour possibility and variations are far greater than in our world (I mean— Tweak’s GREEN and she also glows in the dark), and it either developed as a result of evolution, OR there was a nuclear war and some species’ genes were affected by nuclear radiation several generations ago; or both

— the Polar Scouts, in terms of world history, are a very recent invention—they were, most likely, introduced as a way to get young polar bear cubs to grow up in an environment that encourages equality and helping others (based on this post)

— the Polar Scouts programme was put in place by a Polar/Arctic sector of that United Nations style group, and whilst it HAS BEEN very successful (crime rates and the amount of violent polar bears has dropped A LOT), there are still quite a few bad eggs

— there are stereotypes about different animals; e.g. polar bears are expected to be violent and cruel, and enough live up to this stereotype that it persists

— adding: which is why Barnacles is really careful, patient, and understanding when helping other creatures

— although some countries are still using oils and plastics, society is gradually switching to sources more helpful to the environment

I also want to add if you’ve ever seen Creature Cases, there’s an episode where Director Scratch dissapears and Sam and Kit have to work together to figure out where she went. I’m just saying the woman is a ninja, she’d be one step ahead of any kidnapper who TRIED.

Emma is also the kind of woman that will absolutely get you kidnapped, but its okay because she’s also the woman to get you out of it . . . Can you tell this has happened several times before? If her friends aren’t sick of her, then her team DEFINITELY is! (lol)

(I will apologize now, I’m still figuring out how to simplify Emma’s colors. Because, if you don’t know, Emma is a Maned Wolf and they have such pretty shades of red and brown in their coats! I just wanna add ‘em all! One day I’ll solidify her markings so it isn’t so off. I’m not good at colors okay??? Even my Kindergarten teacher knew I didn’t like them!!! My mom had to ask her if it was okay for me NOT to do the coloring part of the homework because I thought it was so dumb! This is WHY I’m a default sketch artist! Pencils don’t have color! I HATE color theory!!! GAHHHHHH!!!!)

So, when I was looking back at the post, I realized they tried killing him with those pellets/boxes!!! I'm I right, or am I wrong?

So I’ll put this here for anyone else that may be confused about the last post. I wasn’t able to explain much as the narrative wouldn’t flow very well and it’s a lot of words to put on a picture.

The first attempt was caused by several members of the ship’s crew. It’s not clear if the entire crew was involved in the plan, but there were at least several men (there were more involved besides these two) who were hired to incapacitate him if not push him over the side so he would get caught under the boat. (And Barnacles is pretty strong, his skin is pretty thick so it would take more than just two men to take him down. He has years of experience with military/hand to hand combat, I doubt he’s going down very easily)

I did consider the boxes as a joke, and this was while I was actually drawing this image, but I decided it could mostly be up to the imagination of the audience. The boxes were really just to show that these men were either apart of the crew or they snuck onto the ship and were playing that role just to get close to Barnacles. And who knows maybe there are weapons in those boxes?? (lol)

The second attempt however was a hired sniper/assassin, someone who was actually trained for killing rather than a bunch of gangsters looking to make a quick buck. And that meant that a certain someone went to great lengths to figure out where Barnacles was receiving the title of Captain, as only the A.S.A. and the news agency covering the story knew about the exchange for the safety of those involved.

(Anyways sorry it took me all day to get back to you. I was at work all day and they have a strict no phones policy. And thank you @kuri-kushmia for asking this I really do appreciate it because that means I can expand a bit more and give some answers outside of a planned post! Helps me practice my story telling! Hope this helps! If anyone else has any questions or ideas, send them my way! It’ll help me a lot while I’m trying to figure out the direction I want this story to go!)

A team known as the ‘Saviors of the Ocean’. Today we see history as Captain Samara’s legacy is finally laid to rest and a new captain takes the helm of this mighty crew.”

“Her husband, Professor Marin Kelp and head of the A.S.A. says this . . .”

“Mara would’ve wanted this I’m sure, she always had a heart of gold that one! I congratulate Captain Barnacles on his new role, I think she would’ve liked his spirit! He’s a strong one he is and the men and women he’s called to his crew will no doubt be just the same. That being said, we at the A.S.A. made sure to bring in someone we trust! After all most of planet is covered in water, might as well have someone taking care of it!”

“In other news, new waves of gang violence have been picking up along the east coast. As with many others gathering around the lower parts of Africa and South America, just around the center of the Amazonian River. Officials say that they’ve never seen activity quite like this before. Many key witnesses around each of the affected areas have claimed the existence and affects of poachers. But if there’s anything to go off of there seems to always be some valiant soul ready and willing to stop them.”

Sharchini & Vegi-Bot

Headcanon:

Sharchini spends most of his time at Tweak’s side. He isn’t really go on missions kind of guy. But you can definitely count on him to be behind any of the Vegimal’s funky last minute vehicles. Funky as they are they always serve their purpose, he just happens to get the creative points. Tweak loves his little creations and is more than happy to encourage him to keep creating.

Vegi-Bot we all know is just a sweetheart happy to serve however he can. He may live at the bottom of the Mariana Trench but he’s got plenty of other bots and deep sea creatures to keep him company! We don’t get to see him very often but that just means its an extra special treat when we do! He’s managed to easily capture the hearts of anyone who’s met him.

Grouber & Perchkin

Headcanon:

Grouber is the second oldest though most times he doesn’t quite show it. He tends to be on the lazier side, but when he does help his strength always plays a big part in any plan. Papa Shellington isn’t quite sure where he gets it, but why should he be the one to tell his son to hold back? I mean it’s never hurt anyone.

In any case he likes to pass the time by “Fish-Watching”, at least that’s what he calls it. Papa Shellington gifted him a book of all the known sea creatures in the world and Grouber has been very adamant about filling that book with pictures he took.

Every now and then you’ll find Perchkin helping him get the perfect photo, these two are two peas in a pod, best friends with no end. Grouber also tends to prefer the missions where they’re on the surface. His favorite places are the Everglades where Ranger Marsh is and the Amazon River. There’s just something about it . . .

Perchkin is one of the youngest just older than the twins. He tends to get distracted every now and again, but is a great help on the field when its time to get dirty. He’s pretty quiet but not in the way of being shy, in fact he likes to be by himself most of the time.

He’s wearing his favorite outfit, a very cute example of what he wants to be when he grows up, which is a train conductor. His real dream though is to drive trains that bring emergency supplies to folks and animals in need. He’s not entirely sure how he’s going to do it but he’s still young so he has plenty of time.

Halibeet & Codish

Headcanon:

Halibeet is a rather shy individual, he tends to stay out of most vegimal “missions” and likes to be more on the sidelines than anyone else. As you might be able to tell Halibeet has become somewhat of an assistant for Peso and is pretty helpful when there’s a patient in need. He is working on his bravery tho. He and Codish have a more twin based relationship but weren’t born from the same egg like Tominnow or Pikato, and just like the twins these two are very Yin and Yang.

Codish is lively, she always has an eye for some kind of trouble that somehow always ends up being kind of useful. Tunip tends to get on her case about being so reckless but the pair of them usually get along pretty well despite that. It’s a very Kwazii and Captain Barnacles type of situation which is rather ironic if you think about it.

Nonetheless Codish has more of an adventurous personality, but every now and then she’ll reign it in if she realizes the dangers of the situation. It also saves Tunip and Halibeet from having heart attacks every five minutes. XD

(I forgot to add this one! I headcanon that all vegimals have those neck fluffs at birth but when the females mature they loose them. That’s why Tominnow has them but Codish doesn’t. This has nothing to do with my ADHD at all . . . stop looking at me like that)

Barrot & Pikato

Headcanon:

Barrot is one of the oldest in the bunch right beside his brother Grouber. He’s more of a green thumb if you know what I mean. You’ll always find him in the Garden Pod tending to the team’s precious food supply. But don’t worry Tweak and Tunip will visit him every now and then just to make sure he gets at least some social time. ;)

Pikato can get rather excitable at times but he can also be pretty quiet when he wants to be. Not as shy as his twin sister Tomminow, but not as outward as say, Tunip or Codish. He loves all kinds of vehicles and likes to play in the launch bay where Tweak and Sharchini are usually working.

Of course he’s more than careful when it comes to the gups or “works in progress”, he knows not to get too close. Instead you’ll see him watching from afar, pretending that he’s a pilot steering the lastest gup. Of course imagination is a Vegimal’s best friend when you have a stash of cars and trucks hidden under Tweak’s bed.

Tunip & Tomminow

Hello I am sick so here is a Tunip and Tominnow redesign . . . You are welcome.

Headcanon:

Tunip is the oldest of the Vegimals and tends to take the role of “leader” out of the bunch. In fact he aspires to be just like Captain Barnacles when he is grown up.

He does his best to take care of his younger siblings and makes sure that they stay safe and out of trouble. He’d never admit it but deep down all he wants is to make his Papa Shellington proud, even if that means putting himself in harms way for his brothers and sisters.

Adding to this you may often find Tominnow following right behind her big brother with a plush copy of her favorite Octonaut held tightly in her arms. Tominnow, unlike Tunip, is pretty shy and actually takes after her big brother Hilbeet. She is the youngest of the Vegimals aside from her twin brother Pikato, and wants to be just like Kwazii when she is older.

Notes:

Decided to tweak the picture just a bit, I really wasn’t sold on the shading. Something was just off, even though I spent a long time on it. So I just covered everything with a base layer and kept the shading beneath it for future reference. This was one of the pieces that ended up accidentally getting deleted alongside the other Octonauts so I’m just glad it’s finished.

(It would’ve also taken too much time to shade ALL the vegimals so I did this to all of them. Honestly I think they all look better this way)

I would also like to thank past me for taking a picture of the original line work and coloring to show to my friend before they all got deleted, because if I didn’t I wouldn’t have anything to show for this week sooooooo

Its been a full year since I drew this! How time flies yet love never changes! Take care of your loved ones and make sure the fellas in your life feel appreciated as well! It wouldn’t help to get him some flowers or a box of chocolate now and then! You don’t need a holiday for an excuse! Even boys deserve a bit of kindness and a smile!

Emma Jade in MEOMI’s Style

Okay so if it wasn’t clear before, this is Professor Emma Jade. She is a Zoologist and a Animal/Nature Activist. She is an ally to the Octonauts as well as many other organizations (Ex. C.L.A.D.E.). Emma also happens to be very good friends to Captain Barnacles as well as many other activists that work within the A.S.A.

In this AU Emma is the main character. I wanted to showcase the potential of the Octonauts world by using Emma to help the audience understand how things work on this version of Earth.

She’s a very interesting character, and I’m excited for all of you to get to know her. I wanted to make up for the week that I didn’t post in between the other Octonauts refs and the last post. This won’t always happen but I’m too excited to wait for the next picture because of how gosh darn cute it is. So expect a post on Thursday!

My regular posting schedule should be every Tuesday if not then Thursdays. I’m in the process of looking for a new job (hopefully in childcare) so that schedule may change in the future. But I will be sure to keep all of you updated! Again a HUGE thank you to everyone who is following along, I hope this will be able to inspire others to keep strengthening our little fandom, because it sorely needs it!

(P.S. This isn’t my favorite drawing but its been the basis for all of her main colors so I’m still rather attached to it. This was actually the first digital version of her as well so extra attachments I guess)
