there's cultural christianity with tropes and traditions and unspoken expectations but then there's actual christianity where women are explicitly told their whole lives by the people who claim to love them the most that
women were created to be man's helper
the only way for a woman to be spiritually fulfilled is to get married and obey her husband as head of house
women are not suited to be teachers or leaders
women should not have any authority over men
men are a representation of god and women are a representation of sinful humans who must repent and submit themselves to god
and i dont think the psychological impact of the latter is really understood by those who only experienced the former

American Evangelical Christianity needs its own niche horror genre. Caths & Orthos have their thing but the ex-Evangelicals & Prots need to make our own.
I humbly suggest analog horror because a lot of our churches already look like the Backrooms. We should just roll with that & take the concept of the evangelical egregore & make short films or YouTube series kinda like GreyLock.

Okay, so God loves me whether I like it or not, and he saves me from a sinful/limited nature/death (hell) without my consent (except if I don't accept him as my personal savior consent I go to hell/death/brokeness/depravity). Except he's as gentle as a lamb, so he won't enter into me unless I consent. But he will try his best to break me down and soften my heart so that I'm ready to hear his message (and if I don't give in to him, I will never know true happiness/never have a life worth living/die/be tortured for a billion billion years or until I give in).
I don't care how good your message is. This is not how you treat someone you love. This is coercion.

Idk call me crazy but I don't think you should worship a god who says you can't kiss someone before you're married. Like you'd think he'd have his hands full with the wars and the famine and the fuckheads causing them, but no for some reason the lord god above is PRESSED about where and when you're pressing lips together. I feel like if we just take a step back for a moment and look at the world, all presumably a result of the divine plan, we might be able to start weighing the divine planner's opinion on kissing a little bit less. Let's get this universe a little peer review

One thing I saw that baffled me last night was a woman being upset about a before and after picture of trans men prior to and after their transition. Like the dudes are so obviously happy in the second picture, but she's a transphobe, so it's obviously going to be a bad thing to her no matter what.
What really baffles me are the other transphobes trying to claim that this is lesbian erasure, and that's what the trans community is set out to do, which is wrong for many reasons.
The very obvious thing is that lesbians will always exist.
The second is that the trans community is not built on lesbian erasure. The only way you can believe that if you ignore all the other identities under the trans umbrella, which bleeds into my next point.
Lesbianism is undeniably a thing in the trans community. Trans lesbians exist and choosing to ignore them to push this narrative is, ironically, lesbian erasure.
But then again, I got huge fucking gold star lesbian vibes from that post and I won't be surprised if you bring up trans lesbians, they would go on about how trans women aren't women because (insert reason that accidentally includes even cis women) and that they're trying to appropriate femininity and lesbianism. Yeah, let's just conveniently ignore that there are AFABs who fit under the trans lesbian umbrella.
Also, I hope those guys get that lady’s ass for using their personal pictures just to whine about their transition because that's a weird thing to do.

The double bind of "if bad things are happening to you it's because you're not a christian and god is punishing you" but when you are a christian and bad things are still happening it's "bad things are actually a gift from god because trials make your relationship stronger" is actually wild. If a romantic partner was like "I'm going to cheat on you and treat you badly so we can overcome it together and strengthen our relationship" we would rightfully call it abuse. If you punished someone for the grave offense of *checks notes* choosing not to engage in a relationship with you, people (hopefully) wouldn't be like "just get in a relationship with them to stop the abuse". You don't owe a relationship to anybody, but especially people who are abusive and harmful!

Sometimes people demand you justify being an atheist with a 200 page well-sourced thesis on biblical scholarship but one of the reasons I am not a Christian anymore is so fucking simple. It made my life worse. It made me unhealthy mentally. I’ve grown one thousand times more as a person without it. If it were really the one true wisdom from an all knowing infinite god, it would make my life better. And that’s enough proof for me. And it’s a valid reason.

im noticing that for a lot of americans “free palestine” has been an ideological motto and symbol rather than them actually believing in their heart that freedom is attainable and necessary

How can I fucking forget that a possible big reason for the TikTok ban is because the platform allowed for Palestinians to show the horror of what they're going through?
Guys, don't let this ban blind us from all the suffering people are enduring. Even if we don't see it ourselves, Palestinian people are still suffering, and they need us to keeping fighting for them.
And let's pressure the US government even more because Biden was clearly feeling it. Let's make them feel it even more.

I hate when people post videos of kids in clear distress and everyone finds the video funny because the kid was upset over something "stupid"...
I was an undiagnosed autistic kid who got upset frequently! Those "stupid" things I cried about were often so much deeper for me. Sometimes it was a myriad of things built up over time and all it took was that last little thing to result in a meltdown. Having people laugh at me or mock me later for those vulnerable moments is something that will stick with me my whole life but thankfully no one ever videotaped it!
Sometimes I'm wondering why your first response to your child crying is to record them. Other times I'm wondering how that child will feel if any of their peers come across it! And most of all I think "what happened before the video started that led to this" cause we are RARELY getting the full story. It's one of the most disturbing elements about social media to me. Humans in distress is honestly one of the most profitable aspects of it. Doesn't matter whether you're a parent, sibling, friend, bystander, etc. If you post that shit without the persons explicit consent you're a bully.

Hot take but people who are happy about TikTok getting banned are just like the parents from back in the day who'd blame shit like DnD, Video Games and whatever because instead of actually trying find and deal with whatever is causing problems with society, they'd rather blame something that either isn't the problem or is just a reflection of it. Besides, it's much easier than taking accountability for our own shortcomings as a society.
Banning TikTok isn't going to fix any of the societal problems it supposedly caused because there are already sites/apps like it.
TikTok spies on people and has their personal information?
Yeah but so are plenty of other sites in general. Google is so blatant about it that they're fighting against adblock even though people have every right to own one.
TikTok exploits children and exposes them to inappropriate content?
So do platforms like YouTube, Instagram, or any other platform that allows video sharing of any kind. YouTube has been doing it for a long time, but I guess since it's based in the US, it doesn't need to get banned.
TikTok is leading to people having shorter attention spans?
Do I need to repeat myself? Other platforms are guilty of this. Hell, we used to have Vine which has shorter content than TikTok but there wasn't this much backlash. Also, I find it hard to believe when long form content like video essays have been getting popular and streaming platforms allow you to binge entire series. Maybe you just fail to catch people's attention.
What doesn't help is that when people bring up this in terms of children, they fail to realize that the reason why they don't pay attention because a lot of curriculums aren't made with what the child needs in mind, especially in regards to disabled children who need special accommodations to thrive in schools.
I see way too many curricula that are too advanced for what grade the students are in, and grown-ups actually expect them to not get overwhelmed?
Let's face it, they don't give a shit about society, especially children. The fact that you guys trusted these mfs with this ban and what they claim shows how they benefit from your blind rage and hatred from a platform.
I hate TikTok too. Never had the app. But I also knew that banning it isn’t going to solve anything since, once again, all the problems we have with it are problems we have with other platforms.
What also rubs me the wrong way is that TikTok may get unbanned anyway if the platform is sold.
How about instead of banning foreign platforms that are just doing what US based ones already have been doing for a while, we hold all of them to a standard instead of giving government too much power to ban them under the guise of helping society?

One of the wildest things about end times anxiety/sadness at least in my experience was that you weren't allowed to express it in any significant way. Expressing any type of dissatisfaction with the end times coming soon (because everyone would take any natural disaster or war or bad thing in the world as indication that the end times are upon us) was met with you being shamed for not trusting god, not trusting his timing, for being haughty and prideful thinking you could possibly know the day and hour when not even the angels know, and don't you want jesus to come back? It's a good hopeful thing and your anxiety and fear and sadness and any other negative feelings are signs you don't love and trust the lord enough. It is completely twisted to not only tell children the world is ending soon, but to also force them to look forward to it.

Hey sorry if this is too private or anything but do you have any advice for getting through days long youth retreats ? forced to go on one in a bit and could use anything tbh ..
Honestly, what I tend to do when I go to anything church related is zone out... A lot. I wish I could offer much better advice but I'm in a situation that ex-Jehovah Witnesses would call physically in but mentally out (PIMO) and until I'm fully independent, I can't do anything about it. Perhaps this ask can reach someone who can offer much more helpful advice. Sorry I can't help out more.
