Saw a post about wheelchair users and the word "walk" and didn't want to derail, so here is a post for AAC users and the words speak / talk / say!

It's okay to say that an AAC user "said" something. You don't have to say "typed" or "wrote" or "spelled" or "communicated via AAC" - you can just say "they said"

Things that can be fine and true at the same time for one person

A person cannot speak

They love talking to people

They can give a speech

"They told me where to go"

"They said no"

The words like "say, talk, speak" etc are fine to use for stuff said via AAC (and signed languages, too), you don't have to over-complicate.

Also if an AAC user says "I talked about [x]" you also don't have to make shitty jokes like "oh you can talk? You must not really need aac"** or anything

(**Also part time aac users exist and their need for aac is still very real)
