So, it's come to my attention that I've never shared this show-stopping incredible birthday present that I received last year from my amazing friend Dil:

This is the product of many, many hours of forcing her to listen to me talking about how much I love Val Kilmer (and Tom "Iceman" Kazansky, obviously). She even let me sit her down and show her not only Top Gun (1986), but also Top Gun: Maverick and Batman: Forever (1995) (which is objectively terrible) just because they all have at least some small amount of Val Kilmer in them.

If you love Iceman Kazansky as much as I do, I hope you take some joy from the fact that this exists in the world (and if you have your own fancy collage etc pls show it to me, I'd love to see it). Remember to thank your non-fandom friends for their love and support and willingness to listen to us talk about things they don't understand!

Alright, this is something that I've always been curious about. If you've ever watched Top Gun (1986), then presumably you know about Maverick's dad, who is referred to in the movie as "Duke Mitchell". But for the life of me, I can't figure out if "Duke" is his name or his callsign, so I'm tossing it out to the broader community. If you have watched Top Gun, I would love to hear what you think!

Jon comes back as a child and gets adopted by elias (keeping enemies closer) 

they try to stop each other’s plan but end up distracted and forming some weird kind of family (jon gets to grow up with more people around him,, and elias / jonah’s biggest fear becomes losing jon to enemies ASLKDLSJF)

wip wednesday

I've shared a few excerpts from my current TG86 fic on here before, which is called "in spite of ourselves" (working title: "i love ice kazansky <3"). Work on this fic has kind of fallen by the wayside a bit as I'm currently obsessing over Good Omens S2, but this fic currently is 20,000 words long, so I feel like it's not excessive to share another excerpt. Enjoy!

“Ice!” Maverick said. “How are you?” “Can’t complain,” he answered easily, smoothly. The face that Slider would’ve made if he’d heard that answer popped unbidden into Ice’s head. He calmly and firmly shoved it away. “How was Texas?” “Great!” Maverick exclaimed, as Ice had known he would. He settled into one of the chairs at the bartop for what was sure to become a long conversation. “It’s been so long since I saw Carole and Bradley. Carole seems like she’s doing better. And Bradley’s getting so big, I swear he’s gonna be taller than Goose someday.” “That’d be something.” Tom had met Carole Bradshaw once or twice, because she and Goose had already been together when he, Ice, and Slider were at the Academy. That was a long time ago by now, though, and he’d never met Bradley. He’d seen pictures of them, because both Goose and Maverick had many that they loved to show off, but nothing more than that. But by the way Maverick and Goose sung their praises, he hoped that he’d get the chance to meet them one day. Especially now. “... he’s almost taller than me,” Maverick was saying. “Well, that isn’t exactly difficult,” Ice said, and smiled to himself at Maverick’s indignant sputtering. “Is there anything we… anything I can do to help?” He’d asked that question when Maverick first told him about the trip. In response, Maverick had given him a look that Tom hadn’t seen before or since, a look that he still wasn’t able to puzzle out. He wanted to see it again, though, because of the way it had felt to have it directed at him—like he had been found worthy of something precious. This time, Maverick hesitated a moment before answering. When he did, he sounded cautious. “Um, maybe, actually. Carole mentioned that she wants to bring Bradley out here for a visit sometime soon. She asked me to extend the invitation to anyone from our class who’s in town. I’m sure she’d love to meet you. If… if you want.” That, insofar as he had had any expectations, had not been what Iceman was expecting. His throat went dry, trying to picture it. Carole and Bradley Bradshaw were all that any of them had left of Goose, and they were clearly the two most important people in the world left to Maverick. It had been Tom’s jetwash that Maverick flew through on the day of Hop 31, and now he and Maverick were trying to figure out this whole wingman thing. He’d wanted to meet the Bradshaws, but now that he was actually faced with the prospect, it seemed daunting. But he was Tom Kazansky, he was the Iceman. Even if it hadn’t been his jetwash, even if he and Maverick weren’t wingmen, even if he wasn’t a part of the TOPGUN class at all, doing what he could for Goose’s widow and son was the right thing to do. He could get through it, because he owed it to them, to Goose, and to Maverick. It would all be fine. Really.

Hello Mr Gaiman, I was wondering what we can do to support the show and increase chances of a season 3? For example does rating the show 5 stars on amazon and leaving good reviews help? Or is streaming the main contributor?

Anything that gets new people to watch Good Omens helps. So leaving good reviews or ratings is going to help get a new season.

Favorite color: Purple! Very not picky; all shades of purple are superior (although blue and green are also nice).

Last song: Dial Drunk by Noah Kahan; I also was lucky enough to see him at Red Rocks, and it was amazing. Such a sweet guy and so funny <3

Last series: currently being Fucked Up by Good Omens season 2 (I am loving it, one of thee Shows of all time)

Currently reading: The Starless Sea by Erin Morgenstern. Absolutely wild trip of a book. Also like seven million fanfics on AO3, of course.

Last movie: Top Gun: Maverick, I think? I rewatched it with my parents and had to pretend to be normal about it as my dad (who is a pilot and also retired Air Force) and I explained the details of the mission to my mom lol (probably did not succeed)

Sweet/spicy/savory: Sweet, all the way, I absolutely have too much of a sweet tooth; it’s probably a problem.

Currently working on: Ooh! I’ve been sharing excerpts of a Top Gun fic I’m working on for a few weeks (months?) now, and it finally has a name! The “working” title was “i love ice kazansky <3″ because I do, but now the actual fic title is “in spite of ourselves”. I’ll probably be working on it for a very long time because this is a very busy point in my life (I’m starting a PhD program in August...), but hopefully coming to AO3 eventually! It’s about Ice and Mav falling in love post-TG86 and is entirely the product of the fact that I have done way too much research about the logistics of the Navy in the year that I’ve been in the Top Gun fandom. :)

Hi folks. There seems to be a lot of confusion about what we as fans can and can't do with the striking happening. So I made a flowchart.

Let me make this SUPER DUPER EXTRA CLEAR. Unless an AMPTP studio reaches out and says "We would like to give you X (money/swag/whatever) to create content for us" (that would include writing or acting in anyway on your part) you will NOT be crossing a picket line.

Cosplay, fanart, fanfic, going feral, sharing marketing posts, watching your favorite show, getting your friends to watch your favorite show, etc does not count.

It is ONLY scabbing if you are getting REIMBURSED by the STUDIO.

Please take this flowchart, repost it, spread it everywhere!

The studios benefit from us being confused. The studios benefit from us not promoting and not watching and cancelling our subscriptions. The unions, the actors, the writers, they all benefit from us promoting in their absence, they get paid when we watch the shows, we bolster their argument when we boost the shows numbers. If we make the media popular and successful the studios have to meet the writers and actors at the table, and the writers and actors will be in the position of power.

Sometimes writing really just is doing an hour of research to write one sentence, and then cutting that sentence anyway because it doesn’t fit with the flow of the story.

No mentions whatsoever of character names, settings, situations, or anything that could be tied to the story

The usernames may be identical to people who exist on ao3, but the name is not clickable, and no profile is associated with it EXCEPT when you directly search for that name. What this means: the comments come from an unregistered (not logged in) reader, bots scrape the site for real usernames, attach that to the comment, and post

Please spread the word about this so authors can filter comments and report them accordingly

There has been some speculation about why this is happening at all, and the best guess is that this is a feature that AI-training story-scraping tools are implementing to try and make their browsing traffic look legitimate
