⿻ – ❝ Notes〻*ೃ༄. Hello, to the anon who requested this, you didn’t specify which deity, so I chose to use as a base the Greek Goddess "Nike" (Yes, like the brand). Nike was the goddess of speed, strength, and victory. She could grant humans the strength and speed needed to be victorious in any task they undertook.

— This is the last one. — You said as you tied up the last of the thieves.
The team had been assigned to stop a bank robbery, not the kind of mission the team was used to, but a crime was a crime.
— We must secure the perimeter to make sure there are no more of them. — Aqualad said, ready to give another order but was interrupted by a certain red-haired boy.
— I suggest going in duos to make it quicker. — Kid Flash suggested clearly wanting to get somewhere. — Me with Aqualad, Superboy with M'gann, Artemis with Zatanna… — Dick knew where this was going. — And last but not least Robin with Wonder Girl.
The whole team looked at Aqualad, waiting for confirmation, he simply nodded and as quickly as he did they all split up, leaving you alone with the Boy Wonder. The two of you walked side by side in comfortable silence.
— Happy Harbor is really beautiful. — You said as you watched the locals walking through the streets of the area.
— Yeah… — Robin looked at you for a while, your eyes gazing with wonder at every little thing that crossed your path. — Really beautiful. — He said, although he wasn't talking about Happy Harbor.
You turned your head towards him, catching his gaze with yours, a small blush came to your cheeks as you smiled shyly, the atmosphere felt more intimate than usual, maybe because it was just the two of you, or maybe because walking so quietly through the streets beside him made it feel like a date. But the romantic atmosphere was quickly disturbed by a sound coming from Dick that was unfamiliar to you.
The sound made you get a little nervous. — What’s that? — You examined Richard with your eyes up and down with some curiosity trying to find the source of that annoying beeping sound.
— Oh, I’m sorry, it’s my phone, I always turn it off on every mission, I must have forgotten it this time. — Robin pulled his cell phone out of his pocket and ignored the incoming call, ending the ringing.
— Phone? — You asked as you carefully stood next to him and looked at the small device in his hands. — What is a phone?
— Well, it's a smart device mainly designed to facilitate communication, but you can do a lot of things with one of these. — Robin smiled at you without you noticing, warmed by your curiosity.
— We don't have those on Themyscira. So what exactly can that do?
— Well, you can send and receive messages, call people who are miles away from you, record videos, and… Take pictures… — A quick thought crossed Dick's mind. — Let me show you one of the things it can do. — Carefully one of Robin's arms wrapped around your waist pulling you close to him, he selected the camera on his cell phone and positioned it in the air to capture the image of the two of you. — Smile! — You followed Dick's movements, smiled shyly at the camera, and in an eyeblink, the image of the two of you was captured on the device. — See? — You took the phone in your hands, watching in amazement as the scene was captured on the screen.
— Wow, so this little magic box can keep moments as if it was a painting, amazing! — You said completely thrilled.
— It's not magic, it's technology. — Dick answered, looking at you with softness because of your innocence.
You remained frozen for a couple of seconds, staring at the photo with a smile, not realizing how close your body was to Dick's.
— There is still so much of the human world that I don't know, and so much to discover, it's exciting, but scary at the same time. — Your smile did not disappear, your eyes traced every detail of the photo.
— I know, but the team will help you. — Your eyes left the cell phone screen, and you turned your head, facing Dick, it was then that you realized how close he was to you, and your heart skipped a beat in your chest. — I will help you. — One of Robin's hands moved to gently hold yours, a sweet smile lying on his face.
— You're like… — You thought for a moment, remembering the time Diana, your mentor, told you how she met Steve Trevor, the person who support her in her struggle and guided her through the man's world. — A Steve Trevor. — You said more to yourself than to him.
— A what? — Dick asked somewhat confused by your words.
— Oh, never mind. — You shook your head slightly embarrassed.
A short giggle leaked through Dick's lips, he couldn't help but find you adorable. The space between you two seemed to decrease with every second without you even noticing it. Despite the short time you had been with the team Dick's presence was endearing to you, and he felt the same way. He could spend hours and hours at your side listening to you talk about the wonders (as you called them) of the human world, although for him the only wonder was you.
Unfortunately, the romantic atmosphere that had enveloped the two of you was instantly shattered by Kid Flash's voice on the telepathic link. — Nothing here! — Both had become so immersed in each other that you had completely forgotten that you were still on a mission.
You recovered your posture and pulled away from Dick. The mission was your priority and you couldn't let your guard down like that.
— Nothing here either. — You said quietly to the rest of your teammates through the telepathic link.
The entire perimeter seemed to be secured, so the mission was completed.
— Let's go back to the base, Black Canary should be waiting for us for today's training. — This time it was Kaldur's authoritative voice that was heard over the link.
— Understood. — The entire team replied.
Even though you agreed to return to the base your shoulders drooped, as much as you wanted to deny it you would have liked to be alone with Dick a little longer, and the Boy Wonder felt the same way. You turned to look at him hiding your wish to stay alone with him for more time.
— Shall we go? — You asked turning around to go back.
Robin hesitated for a moment, thinking of some valid excuse to continue being just the two of you even if it was only for a couple more minutes. — Wait! — He rushed as an idea crossed his mind, positioning himself in front of you and cutting you off. — Why don't we go another way? — A smirk came to Dick's lips.
— Another way? — You asked curiously, although you were dying to accept his invitation.
Dick focused his attention on his forearm for a moment, pressing a couple of buttons on the holographic keyboard that had unfolded in the air. The sound of an engine approaching you in the distance made you become alert, a motorcycle approached you and stopped just a couple of feet away, it was Dick's motorcycle.
The Boy Wonder moved to his vehicle and climbed in without any effort, he then turned to you with a beautiful smile on his face. — So, what do you say? — A smile that hid perfectly the little nervousness he felt at the possibility of your rejection.
You reciprocated his smile, but you didn't give him an answer, the movement of your body spoke for itself, you walked over and took a seat behind him, your arms wrapped around his torso and your chin rested on his shoulder. Dick's body tensed for a second at your touch, but it was easy for him to get used to the feel of your body so close to his.
A smile spread across Dick's face, once he made sure you were well secured he drove off, the pace of the motorcycle wasn't too slow but it wasn't too fast either, it was simply perfect, and it allowed you to quietly enjoy the streets of Happy Harbor, the peaceful atmosphere seemed to be contagious to all the people there, you felt the sun rays hitting against your skin producing a pleasant feeling of warmth all over your body.
You closed your eyes, enjoying the humid wind hitting the skin of your face and letting your head rest on Dick's shoulder, this was one of the few quiet moments you had since you joined the team, and you were glad it was at his side.
[•••]
— Look who finally showed up. — Black Canary looked at you with her arms crossed over her chest, her face remained stoic, wanting to show dissatisfaction at your unpunctuality. Though deep down she couldn't help but feel tenderness for the "young love" (as she called it) that seemed to be developing between the two of you. All eyes were on you and the Boy Wonder; you were both so comfortable with each other that without you noticing it, the motorcycle ride was extended a little longer than it needed to be.  — Since you were the last to arrive, you will be paired up for today's training.
The rest of the team looked at you both with knowing smiles on their faces.
— Well, it looks like you're lucky today. — You rolled your eyes, a smile spread across your face at Dick's confidence. — So, what is today's training? — Everyone's attention quickly shifted to Black Canary in anticipation of what they would face in today's training.
— Simple and easy, fighting in pairs. — Everyone looked around, looking at their possible opponents, Superboy and Aqualad were a group, Miss Martian and Artemis were together, and last but not least, Zatanna and Kid Flash. — Today's confrontations may not be completely fair in terms of power or skill, but your fights will not always be, yet you must learn to compensate your weaknesses with communication and teamwork. — Suddenly an aura of friendly competitiveness was felt in the room, training sessions like this were always a source of excitement among the team. — Let's get started.
The first match was between Miss Martian and Artemis against Kid Flash and Zatanna, it lasted what seemed to be an eternity for them and only a couple of minutes for you and the rest of the team who watched the whole battle expectantly, it was a pretty equal and exciting fight, to say the least, but once proclaimed the winner of that match the next match began.
Dick and you against Kaldur and Conner, you couldn't deny it, facing them was exciting and intimidating at the same time, both were formidable enemies, and Superboy's strength was something that could not be denied, he could even appear to be invincible to some people, but the team knew that Conner's impulsiveness was perhaps his greatest weakness, if he faced an enemy that was able to analyze all his movements he would probably lose, unfortunately, he was teamed with Aqualad, and he perfectly covered Conner's weak point. Undoubtedly Kaldur was one of the team members with more battle experience, and while Conner had strength and brutality, Kaldur had strategy and agility; fortunately, you and Dick had nothing to envy from them, despite your nervousness you were confident in your skills, and in your partner.
— Are both teams ready? — Black Canary looked at you, and you nodded, as did your other three teammates. — Perfect, then... Begin!
You watched your enemies, thinking to take Conner and leave Aqualad for Robin, but before you could take the lead Kaldur rushed at you releasing strike after strike, his attacks were precise and fast, but yours were too, you as an Amazon had nothing to fear from an Atlantean, it was an equal fight; although you couldn't say the same about Robin and Superboy, despite the great intelligence and agility of the Boy Wonder he was no match for the clone of Superman or at least not physically.
The fight went on far longer than would have been expected, and neither team seemed close to being defeated, you turned your attention away from your opponent so you could visualize Robin for a moment, the Boy Wonder was starting to look tired, and who wouldn't be having to keep up with a Kryptonian, or well, in this case, a half Kryptonian. Dick's chest was rising and falling quickly as a result of his agitated breathing. Even if it was a simple training fight you didn't want to lose, not when you could win.
Conner seemed to have cornered Dick, the poor acrobat lacked the energy to continue the fight, and Superboy could see it, he raised his arm ready to deliver the last strike; Robin remained motionless for a second, thinking about how to get out of that situation, although his body could not take any more, his chest was moving violently trying to recover some air, and when he thought his legs would fail a huge wave of energy ran through him from head to toe, from the inside to the outside; it was electrifying, exciting. Dick never believed that people could be reborn, but if he did, he was sure that's how it would feel.
All tiredness was completely eliminated from his body, he felt full of energy, he felt determined, he felt alive. His limbs moved on their own, following the wave of energy that pushed them, even he was unaware of the speed with which he moved and in a matter of seconds Superboy was no longer facing him, instead, the Kryptonean had hit the ground a few feet away.
Multiple gasps of surprise echoed in the room, it was like for a moment time stopped, even Kladur who was totally focused on his fight seemed to have been completely stunned; Dick came to his senses, and like his companions, he remained motionless for a moment without understanding what was happening, until the realization hit him, it had been him, he had knocked Conner to the ground with a single punch.
Silence settled in the training room, Conner sat up again, rubbing his cheek where he had been hit, totally stunned.— How the hell did you do that?! — He wasn't upset, just surprised, more like shocked.
— I… — Dick tried to answer the question, but he was as speechless as everyone else. — I don’t know… — Silence reigned once again, everyone looked around for answers as if they would appear out of nowhere.
— It was me... — You confessed in the middle of the silence, earning the stares of everyone in the room. You shrank in your place, feeling judged by everyone's attention.
— What do you mean? — Black Canary asked curious about how you could be responsible for what happened.
— I… — You cleared your throat, trying to ignore the nervousness that had settled in you. — It is, one of my skills, I can grant the strength and speed necessary to guarantee victory to those I consider worthy.
With that clarification the tension in the place seemed to dissipate completely, instead, now everyone seemed curious and amazed by your abilities.
— I didn't know the Amazons could do that. — Aqualad stated.
— They can't, let's just say it's one of my unique skills I got it from my mother, but still, I should have mentioned it before I used it, sorry. — You looked at Dick with embarrassment, trying to apologize.
— Hey it's okay, don't worry. — Robin gave you a small comforting smile, it was certainly an… Interesting experience.
— Your mother? — Black Canary went ahead and asked.
— Yes, the Amazons know her as Nike, goddess of victory. — You replied with a bit of pride.
— Oh, like the brand? — Wally said with a smile.
— The brand? — Your head moved slightly and your brow furrowed, you hadn't been around men long enough to know what the red-haired boy was talking about.
— Yeah, you know, Nike, “Just do it” — Wally hinted, believing you would know what he meant, but you had no idea.
— Well, I think the training has been enough for today. — Black Canary announced, ending today's training.
Shortly the team started to leave the place.
— So… — Dick's voice echoed behind you, you turned and smiled at the sight of your favorite Boy Wonder. — You said you could use your powers on those you considered worthy, does that mean you think I'm worthy? — Your cheeks tinged slightly pink, but your smile didn't disappear.
— I do, I think you are worthy. — Your eyes didn't leave his, the warmth you felt in your body when you were with him had returned.
Neither of you said anything else after that, you smiled for the last time and walked away leaving a smiling Dick watching your figure fade away through Mount Justice.
— Well… — The black-haired boy turned around, only to see his red-haired best friend standing there, watching him with a sly grin. — When will you ask her out? — Wally asked.
— What? — Dick asked, one of his eyebrows raised.
— Oh come on, since she arrived you haven't stopped flirting. — Wally annoyed replied.
— Well yeah but, what's the rush? It's not like she’s going to disappear. — Dick shrugged, usually, Richard didn't wait long to act when it came to girls, but for once in his life, he wanted to take it easy, he knew that male company wasn't something you were used to, but he wanted to make sure he prioritized your comfort, he didn't want to rush things.
— Dude, just look at her. She's cute, she's charismatic, she's smart. — The redhead number every one of your qualities. — God, if you weren't my friend I'd already be trying my luck right now, and if you don't, someone else will. — Wally shrugged his shoulders, thinking he had made his point clearly enough, and decided to leave the place.
Dick stood there, thinking seriously about his friend's words. Maybe, for once, Wally was right.
[•••]
— Sector 5-D clear. — You said through the telepathic link waiting for your next order.
The Justice League had detected suspicious activity in a location on the edge of Metropolis, the place turned out to be a bodega of extraordinary size divided into sections; and although it would have been much quicker and easier to go through the place individually, Kaldur decided to separate the team in pairs believing that this would be the best thing to do in case of any confrontation. You looked over your shoulder, and glanced at your duo for this mission, the Boy Wonder simply nodded confirming that you should continue moving along this path.
Your footsteps were quiet and firm, ready for almost any probability that presented itself. You kept alert to the environment, every sound, every movement.
You stood firm, a huge shiver ran through your body, you stopped for a moment, and expelled some air through your mouth seeing how it could be distinguished in the air; you frowned confused, realizing that the temperature seemed to have dropped considerably despite only having advanced a small distance.
— I don't remember any other sector getting so cold, do you? — You asked Robin, turning your body to face him hoping for an answer that would corroborate the temperature change.
— No, something must be causing it. — The Boy Wonder answered checking the holographic screen displayed from his armband trying to find the cause of the temperature change.
You opened your lips to say something else, but your senses snapped in a second, and a high-pitched sound reached your ears alerting you about the danger. — Watch out! — You grabbed the shield from your back, and moved, positioning yourself in front of Dick, digging your feet into the ground, bending your knees, and ready for impact. A projectile collided with the metal of your shield, the place filled with fog preventing you from seeing your enemy.
You felt the temperature drop even more and saw the frost starting to cover the walls of the building. Robin left his place behind you and positioned himself next to you, waiting for anything. Slowly the fog dissipated, revealing your rival in this mission.
— Icicle Jr... — Robin whispered, staring at your adversary who stood proudly with a smug smile on his face.
— That’s right Boy Wonder I… — Jr. seemed to be about to start his monologue, however, his eyes were taken away by your presence, although you had heard of him you hadn't had the opportunity to encounter him until now, and apparently, he had never had the pleasure of hearing from you, but you seemed to be able to captivate him with a single glance. — Hey… — He greeted you in a flirtatious tone, forgetting that his goal was defeating you and your teammate.
— We hadn't met, had we? No, I would remember a face as pretty as yours. — You raised an eyebrow, intrigued by his sudden change of attitude. His arrogant features had softened for you.
You cleared your throat, trying to hide the little reddish hue that wanted to grow on your cheeks, although it was questionable, it took you by surprise to be called pretty by the enemy. — No, we haven't. — You replied.
— Conner should have told me that there was a new hottie on the team. — He winked at you, waiting to get a reaction from you.
— Agh, enough. It's time for you to go back to prison. — Robin stepped in. Holding up one of his birdarangs.
— Well, if she's the one taking me to prison I wouldn't mind going back a million times. — The cocky grin returned to his face.
A new wave of strikes from him started, however this time he didn't seem to be interested in hurting you, he just seemed to want to provoke you, on the other hand, the attacks directed toward Robin were more aggressive.
You focused on dodging his attacks, making your way to him, knowing that Dick would be fine on his own, the cold enveloped your body and the ice on the ground made it difficult to move, you dropped your shield, seeking to focus the strength of your two hands on your sword.
You raised your sword once you were only inches away from him, the steel melted into the ice on his arm, and you dug your feet into the ground trying to maintain your stance despite how difficult it was because of the icy floor.
You fought, neither of you wanted to lose, yet Icicle Jr. wasn't using his full strength, and neither were you. — Wow, you look even prettier from this close. — A little shiver ran through your body at the compliment. — I’m Icicle Jr by the way, but you can call me Cameron. — You pulled away from him retracting your sword satisfied with having pierced the thick layer of ice on his arm.
You caught your breath and looked at him for a moment without letting your guard down. — Wonder Girl. — You introduced yourself, proud of the title you had earned with blood, sweat, and tears.
Cameron seemed surprised, his guard was left vulnerable for a moment and it was obvious that the Boy Wonder wouldn't let this opportunity slip away. He rushed towards his target, managing to connect a kick directly to his jaw, Icicle Jr fell back stunned by the attack, Robin threw a birdarang in his direction, the smoke from the explosion prevented you from seeing your enemy for a moment, but before the smoke dissipated an aggressive blast of ice shot out brushing your side, however, your teammate did not have the same luck.
Dick's back collided with the wall, his limbs wrapped in the ice causing a groan to echo through the walls.
— Robin! — You shouted, stunned for a moment. You turned to Icicle Jr. This time decided to use all your strength.
Although it would be ideal to help your teammate it wasn't a good idea to just back away from the enemy.
You swing your sword in front of you without taking your eyes off Cameron, despite your intimidating aura Icicle Jr simply seemed to enjoy the sight. You rushed at him, your strikes were quick and sharp, but you had to admit that Icicle Jr's defense wasn't all that bad. You felt a little nervous inside, Cameron's gaze piercing you from top to bottom.
Being watched so closely made you anxious, the tingling of nervousness distracted you from the fight, your strikes were no longer sharp and your movements were no longer quick; Cameron saw this and took advantage of it. Your sword was stuck again in the ice of his arm, but this time you were not fast enough, Cameron took his chance, the ice began to expand until it reached your wrists compromising your position; You panicked, maybe in other circumstances it would have been completely easy to break free, but the anxiety stopped you from thinking clearly.
— You have such beautiful eyes, doll. — His frosty breath collided against your skin, slowly your gaze raised only to realize how close your face was to Icicle Jr's.
You turned your face away in disgust, and again pulled back trying to shatter the ice that held you captive, but your attempts seemed to be useless, and Cameron seemed to be getting closer and closer; a ringing noise echoed in your head, none of your thoughts seemed to give you a solution to the situation and your body seemed to not answer; you could feel Icicle Jr's cold eyes visualizing you like you were a mere piece of meat, his icy breath pierced the exposed skin of your face getting closer and closer.
— Oh, don't be so shy doll. — His icy breath made its way to your ears, your face twisted in disgust. Even though you couldn't see his face you could imagine the shameless grin on his face.
Slowly the ice was beginning to crack, but not the ice that held you, and perhaps you would have realized that if the situation had been different. — That's enough! — The voice echoed through the place like a growl, it was authoritative and threatening enough to startle you.
Everything happened so fast that even for you it was difficult to process, in just a moment your body was pulled forward roughly, you put resistance digging your feet strongly into the ground, taking the opportunity to pull your sword once again, this time successfully breaking the ice and freeing yourself; a small whimper left your lips, your sword slipped between your fingers that were completely purple like the rest of your arm, only now that you had freed yourself you realized the pain that palpitated over your two upper limbs.
You didn't even bother to try to understand what was happening, the pain was stabbing and the shock was inevitable, your eyes managed to make out a figure moving closer to you, you tried to focus on his face. — Robin. — You whispered with relief.
— I'm sorry it took me so long to free myself from the ice. — The guilt was evident in his voice. — Let me see your arms. — His words were soft, his concern was obvious.
Even with your mind spinning you moved your arms towards him, you felt the leather of his gloves against your skin, making a small whimper leak from your lips, it was not something you couldn't handle, but the pain was there.
— Let me bandage you. — His voice was barely a whisper, yet his words were authoritative, treating your wounds was not up for discussion.
You nodded, too exhausted to refuse, your breathing slowly returned to normal, your mind was getting calmer and slowly things became clear, and you certainly couldn't help but feel ashamed of your poor performance in battle, Robin had finished the job for you, Icicle Jr's body lay unconscious on the ground, handcuffed and blindfolded, it didn't look like he was going to wake up any time soon.
Your disappointment seemed to be evident, or at least it was to Dick, under his mask his eyes remained focused on bandaging your arms, but he couldn't help but look back at your face here and there, his mind wondering to itself what was going through your head at that moment, but Dick knew you, he could read your eyes like a book, and right now he could only read helplessness and regret, two feelings he got to know very well when he was younger.
 — You did a good job, don't let that mortify you. — His voice was almost audible, and although you valued his words you found no comfort in them.
— I was paralyzed. — You replied. — If you hadn't been here I would have compromised the mission. — You said, perhaps too harshly, but for you, it was true.
— But you didn't. — Dick's eyes finally focused on you, your arms were now completely bandaged. — And you gave me enough strength to win the fight. — Your expression quickly changed from sternness to confusion.
— I didn't use my powers on you. — Was the only thing you could say.
— I know, but your presence is enough to give me the strength to win. — The smile that appeared on your face was inevitable as well as the warmth that reached your cheeks, and for Robin, it was inevitable not to smile with satisfaction at your reaction.
— Thank you. — You mumbled knowing he would hear you. You wouldn't say it out loud, but his attention and concern were something you enjoyed. — We should keep moving. — You turned away from him, only then realizing how close he was to you.
Richard watched your figure carefully, following your every move; you bent down to the ground, took your shield and placed it on your back, walked a couple of steps, and took your sword again, your grip on the handle was weak, your wounds still fresh, but your determination seemed to have returned, while Dick's seemed to be fading; you turned your back to him, ready to continue with the mission.
Dick's chest heaved with impatience, since that training Wally's words had not stopped running through his mind because he knew it was true; as he also knew that this was not the best moment, but despite his serene and calculating personality he was still a teenager, and could not avoid moments of impulsiveness like these where his emotions clouded his reason.
— Wait! — His words were faster than his thoughts. And his impulsiveness disappeared as soon as your eyes stopped on him, as hard as it was to happen, Robin was speechless.
You moved closer to him, your mind forgetting about the mission as you focused on him, finding his presence comforting, you remained silent, waiting for him to continue.
— Well... I don't know how to say this. — One of Robin's gloved hands moved to the back of his neck. Your eyebrows furrowed, it seemed so unusual to see Dick this way, hesitant and doubtful.  — But, I really like you. — A shy smile showed on his face as he looked at you expectantly.
You smiled innocently, believing he simply meant that he liked you in a friendly way, and even though your heart yearned for more, you appreciated the fact that he "liked you." You approached him, that dazzling signature smile of yours shining on your lips, making his heart beat faster than it already did.
You took his hands in yours as if your previous actions weren't enough to increase his nervousness. — Oh Robin, I feel the same way. — You said. Robin's eyes lit up under his mask and his smile simply spread. — You are a great friend, and an excellent teammate, it would be impossible not to like you.
Dick's smile faded completely from his lips, and his eyebrows drooped in sadness. — That's not what I meant... — The disappointment was more than clear in Dick's voice, yet he decided to go ahead with his confession. — I have romantic feelings for you. — His grip on your hands weakened with each of his words.
And suddenly everything around you stopped, and those words repeated in your head "Romantic feelings", what did you know about romance? Nothing. You were still young, and while it was true that at your age most young people already knew the feeling of love you did not. You had grown up in Themyscira, and for as long as you could remember the most important thing for you being there was your training, and you understood that you knew that your powers required control and training, but having trained from such a young age had robbed you of many opportunities. To live your childhood like any other child your age, to make friends, to explore the world, to develop your preferences, and to experience love.
The only thing you knew about love was the little your mentor had told you of her own experience. About the time years ago when she met the one she considered the love of her life, Steve Trevor. How they met, how he taught her about the world of humankind, how they fought a war together, and finally, how they fell in love; Diana told you everything, how she realized about her feelings, how her heart used to beat fast when she was near him, the trust and peace that his presence gave her, the feeling of wanting to protect him from danger.
And you knew, that what your mentor had felt for Steve Trevor was what you were feeling for Dick Grayson.
— I feel the same way... — You repeated, but this time the tone of your voice was different, softer and gentler, but confident, there was no uncertainty in your words.
You felt Robin's hands squeeze yours, not enough to hurt you, but enough for you to feel the warmth of his gloves through the bandage. Dick was clinging to his hopes, and his heart was beating fast in his chest, even though you were an open book, he found you hard to decipher at times, but he realized there was nothing to decipher at that moment, he just had to trust your words, as he always had.
His smile returned to his face, while yours only got bigger. — So… — Robin gathered the courage to speak again. — Are you free after this mission? — He asked, his trademark mischievous smile on his lips, and his usual confidence seemed to have returned to him.
Your chest jiggled with a peculiar feeling you weren't familiar with, but it didn't bother you, after all, you had gotten your own Steve Trevor... No, something even better, you had gotten your own Dick Grayson.

This is sorta random but would you write a mini story or blurb about how Damian would console a depressed/despondent reader? Been feeling very much in low spirits. But if you are uncomfortable with the request I understand and hope you have an awesome day ❤️
Here is your request beautiful ❤❤
I really hope you like it and enjoy it.
PS. I know I said the next One Shot would feature Dick Grayson, but this just came out faster.

— Ugh… — You suppressed the little moan of pain that wanted to leak from your lips; the coldness of the floor against your back sent a shiver through your whole body.
— Come on, get up. — Starfire's voice echoed through the room. Her voice was calm but firm, it wasn't a command it was an encouragement.
You took a deep breath, you moved and turned around, letting the palms of your hands and your knees carry the weight of your body; you closed your eyes and sighed. You tried to find the determination to get up; lately, your performance in training had declined significantly, and you knew it. You had been trying to keep up with the team, but you didn't have the strength to do so, or at least you didn't at the moment.
When you joined the Titans you knew it would be hard, maybe you didn't really imagine it would be so hard, you felt prepared, but apparently, you were wrong. At first, it was easy, or at least as easy as it could be to fight crime day by day, but there were days when it was so hard.
And this was one of those days, just like the day before, and the day before that…
— Come on (Y/N), I know you can do it! — Starfire cheered you on once again.
You snorted, finally getting up from the ground even though you likely fell back down again and again as you had been doing in the last several minutes of the training.
Once you got up, Starfire's strikes began to come again, you dodged them and attacked when you found the opportunity. A couple of minutes passed and you seemed to be able to keep up, just when you started to regain your confidence one of Star's punches landed on your right cheek without you having the chance to dodge it sending you to the ground, once again, but you got up again, and fell again, again and again...
— Are you oka… — Star's words were quickly interrupted by a growl coming out of your lips echoing throughout the place.
You hit the ground with your fist and stood up, trying to compose yourself.
— What's the point of this? — You asked finally exploding.
— (Y/N)… I'm trying to help you reach your full potential. — The warm hand of the Tamaranean rested on your shoulder, her concerned eyes fixed on your face.
— Full potential… — You whispered to yourself, shook your head, and looked up, your eyes reflecting pure distress. — How do you know I haven't reached my full potential yet? — You pointed to yourself tapping your chest with your fingers repeatedly causing a small flash of pain that you completely ignored. — What if this is my full potential and I have nothing more to offer?... — Your voice cracked as you finished the sentence; for many people, your outburst might have been nonsense, but for you, it wasn't, the thought of not keeping up, of being left behind was slowly consuming you. Watching all the other team members advance day by day while you just sank into despair was both frustrating and terrifying.
— (Y/N)… — Star was speechless for a moment, not knowing how to deal with the situation, she never thought you would feel that way.
Tears were beginning to gather in the corners of your eyes from the internal frustration you felt. — I'm tired of trying to catch up, and with every step I take I can only feel like I'm falling deeper… — You pressed your lips tightly together avoiding them to trembling and trying to hold back your tears; something that was becoming more difficult with every second. — Sorry Star, I don't think I have anything more to offer...
You didn't expect an answer from Starfire, your body began to move following the path that led to your room. Your feet felt heavy, you couldn't recognize if it was due to your tiredness or if it was merely due to your state of mind; your vision was partially blurred by the tears that had insisted on staying in your eyes starting to slowly slide down your cheeks; accelerating your steps, wanting to be in the comfort of your room as soon as possible.
Your mind was not on the road, your body simply followed the path it already knew without really watching your surroundings, resulting in a collision between your body and a familiar figure when you turned the corner of one of the corridors. The collision was slight, but enough to make you lose your balance. Fortunately, the hands of the person in front of you moved quickly and held your forearms firmly, helping you to stabilize yourself. You remained motionless for a few seconds, feeling the intense gaze of the Al Ghul successor on you, producing a huge wing of nervousness inside your body. Suffocating, stopping for a moment, you lifted your face only to find those cold green eyes belonging to the youngest Wayne staring back at you. You cowered under his intimidating stare, for an instant believing he would push you away and continue with his path, but his gaze seemed to darken with concern as he saw the trail of tears on your cheeks; still, all the feelings that consumed your mind blocked you from seeing his concern, and instead, you felt judged under his gaze.
You pulled away from his arms, recovering any remaining composure you had left, wanting to rid yourself of any questions or any speech that might come from Damian, you decided to go on your way quickly leaving him behind, and finally collapsing into the comfort of your room.
But Damian remained there, watching your figure fade down the halls of the tower, his typical cold and hard stare softening for a second; his brow frowned at your unusual behavior all the while a small feeling of worry built in his chest.
[•••]
The silence was something that over time had become scarce for you, so moments like this where silence reigned were extremely comforting. The warmth of the sheets in your bed along with the lack of sleep you had been experiencing caused you to easily sink into a sleepy condition that helped you to avoid your current state of mind. Unfortunately, your peaceful state was interrupted by a couple of knocks on your door that managed to startle you out of bed and bring you back to reality.
You sat on the corner of the bed, your hands resting on your knees. — It's me, Damian. — The voice of the youngest Wayne came through the door.
You didn't answer feeling totally exhausted, but it wasn't your body that was exhausted, it was your mind.
Despite your silence, which could have easily been interpreted as a refusal, the door to your room slowly opened, revealing Damian Wayne himself. His gaze scanned every corner of your figure looking for anything, but the only thing he could notice was how drained you looked and a couple of bruises on the visible skin of your body, probably the result of today's training or the previous ones.
You kept your silence, waiting for Robin to explain the reason behind his arrival.
Once inside your room, the current Boy Wonder closed the door, recovering once again that silence you appreciated so much; he walked slowly towards you taking a seat next to you on the warm sheets of your bed, his usual stoic expression prevailing. — I brought you some ice. — Damian handed you a small bag of ice, probably for you to apply it to the bruise that had appeared on your right cheek after your morning training.
— Thanks… — You mumbled taking the bag and placing it on your injured cheek, a small moan left your lips when you felt the pressure of the cold against your skin.
And the silence returned, but this time it wasn't as comforting as before, this time it was rather, awkward, you knew well that Damian was here for another reason, otherwise, he would have left already.
— Starfire told me what happened today.
So that was it, a small whimper left your lips, but this time it wasn't of pain, but of annoyance, the last thing you needed right now was a sermon from Damian highlighting your poor performance in training.
You left the ice bag aside and snorted ready to defend yourself. — Look, I have enough already having to deal with my mediocrity, I don't need your… — Before you could finish voicing your dissatisfaction he interrupted you without removing his straight face.
— I'm not here to complain, I'm here to... — Damian hesitated for a moment just like even he found odd what he was about to say. — Show you my support…
— Oh… — That was all that could come out of your lips, you weren't used to seeing this side of the youngest Wayne.
— We've been on the same team for years, we fought side by side, and believe it or not, I care deeply about you. — Damian's voice had softened slightly, like a whisper that only the two of you could hear.
For the first time in the entire conversation, Damian's eyes met yours, his typical cold and calculating gaze had been replaced by a softer and gentler one. The words stuck in your throat at the Boy Wonder's sincere statement.
Silence reigned the room again, your fingertips trailed across your knees nervously, Damian seemed truly willing to listen, so you would be willing to speak.
— I… I don’t know… — Of course you knew, but your feelings were so hard to explain in simple words.
You remained quiet for another couple of minutes in fear of losing the possibility to finally vent to someone, fortunately, Damian managed to understand your difficulty to find your voice at that moment, so he waited patiently.
— Lately, everything has become so difficult, and I can't understand why. — You began. — My superhero life, my student life, and my personal life, when I joined the Titans I thought I could handle it all, and for a while I did, but then it all started to fall apart. I try to convince myself that I'm just going through a hard time, but how long will it take me to get out of this? Will I be able to get out of this? — You kept silent for a moment, quickly thinking about those last two questions and their respective answers. — Sometimes I try to console myself by thinking that I'm not the only one going through these things, but then I look at the rest of the team and, they seem to be able to handle it all so well, it makes me feel pathetic, it makes me feel like I'm falling behind. — Damian remained quiet, listening very carefully to your thoughts. — And it makes me feel so sick, it makes me feel so hopeless…
Silence returned to the place, a huge sigh left your lips, but a weight disappeared from your chest, now that you had made your emotions known to someone you had managed to feel a glimmer of peace that perhaps was the first step on the right path.
— I see… — Damian took a deep breath thinking about his next words, comforting people wasn't one of his distinguished skills, but he cared about you, and he wanted you to know that you could always come to him. — You know you have my support for anything, maybe I can't know exactly what you feel or what you're going through, but I'll be here as your teammate and as… Your friend. And I'm sure if you told the team how you feel they would say the same thing. We'll support you in getting through what you're going through, but... — One of his hands moved to your shoulder, generating a pleasant warmth on your skin. — If that's not enough, you know the best and most appropriate thing to do is to go to a professional.
Once again Damian's words left you speechless, his concern felt genuine, just a few hours ago you felt totally alone, but now you had realized that it wasn't like that, it had never been like that; the mixtures of emotions were beginning to feel overwhelming, your vision was starting to become faintly blurred due to the amount of water building up in your eyes; you lowered your head not wanting the youngest Wayne to see how tears were now sliding down your cheeks.
You felt Damian's hand move from your shoulder to the back of your neck pulling you protectively to his chest, your hands slid shakily to his back, clinging to the fabric of his shirt and resting your forehead on his chest, you cried silently, not from pain, but from relief, you needed this, you needed to know you were not alone; and Damian understood the feeling perfectly, that's why he needed you to know he was here and always would be.
Your tears were slowly drained away, replaced by a feeling of peace, Damian's arms were comfortable and warm, perhaps even more than your bed was.
You rested your head on his chest slightly enjoying the refined scent emanating from the younger Wayne, you were sure it was some expensive cologne. Damian's hand wandered lightly to your lower back, holding you gently but firmly, even though you were both sitting, Damian had the odd feeling that if he didn't hold you, you would fall.
Your breaths synchronized, your eyelids were starting to feel heavy again, but you remained immobile, thinking about how things would be from now on; you tried to keep your eyes open, but it was useless, in a matter of seconds you let yourself fall into the arms of Morpheus, enjoying the feeling of protection that Damian's arms gave you.
The young Al Ghul slightly moved away from your figure, staring at you with a gentleness that was unknown to him, he picked up your body with his muscular arms, holding you carefully, just like you were a small porcelain doll that could be broken with the slightest touch. He placed your body once again between the comfortable sheets of your bed and picked up a thin blanket covering your small body with it.
— Everything will be fine… — The green-eyed boy leaned down until his face was at the same level as yours, gently resting his hands on your bed. He remained frozen in his place for a while, watching the peace reflected on your face, a slight smile appeared on his lips, his body moved on its own and before he knew it, his lips were resting on your forehead. — You have my word. — It was a promise, and even though you couldn't hear it, Damian would do what it took to keep it.

— Oh dear, I'm afraid the heroes will want to take you away from me, but I won't let that happen, you are an invaluable source of information, we still have a lot to find out about you, together... — The words echoed between the walls of the laboratory, a fearful grimace could have appeared on your face but your null energy didn't allow you to move the muscles of your face, yet the sadness was present in your eyes.
Brain had taken you captive since your arrival on earth, he had been able to neutralize each one of your powers and of barely keep you alive. At first, you were just an object for his studies and experiments, but something in you seemed to captivate him in a twisted way, there was something in you, a beauty that he wanted to keep forever.
— Why that sad face dear? If you behave yourself I might consider getting you a bigger cage, or even a room to yourself. — You looked at him, hatred flaming in your eyes as you felt the metal bars of your cage begin to burn your skin due to the length of time you had been leaning on them, but that was the only way you could find to hold your body up.
Gathering your remaining strength you tried to open your lips to tell him to fuck off, but before you could do so the sound of a crash against the hard metal of the lab doors interrupted you.
— Well, it looks like they're already here…— You didn't know who exactly he was talking about, you just knew they were heroes, and that made hope slightly vibrate in your chest. — I'd better get moving. — Your eyes didn't leave the door, you saw how the dents became more evident as a result of the hits; out of the corner of your eye you observed Brain's movements, he had designed a new armor that matched his robotic body, specially designed to fight against the heroes.
— Now my dear, I'd better hide you, I don't want others to admire your beauty. — You objected to the idea, but there was nothing you could do about it, in your current state, even breathing seemed to be difficult for you.
Just like luck was on your side, the large metal door would no longer resist any more hits, which forced Brain to simply cover you with a blanket to hide you, as soon as the cloth touched the structure of your cage the metal doors fell to the ground causing a horrible screeching sound.
An unfamiliar voice reached your ears, from the intonation you could tell it was possibly someone young. — Whatever you are doing in this place ends here and now Brain. — As quickly as the words left Conner's lips a small robotic laugh was heard.
— I don't like to underestimate my enemies, but I think the percentage of probability that you have to defeat me with my new upgrade is quite low, maybe if the rest of your team was here the percentage would increase a bit. — Those words only angered the Kryptonian who threw himself into the fight without hesitation. The noise of the strikes quickly filled the place, desperation gnawed at you, not knowing who was winning or losing made you feel anxious, you didn't know if you would have another chance to escape.
The fight went on for what seemed like an eternity to you, you felt your heart stop in your chest. The commotion quickly stopped, returning to the sepulchral silence of before, no voice was heard, a shaky breathing could be heard faintly, you heard the footsteps echoing in the room, each time sounding more distant, you became alarmed. You got together your last strength to try to speak, but you didn't succeed, instead, a sickly dying whimper came out of your lips. The sound of footsteps stopped for a second, only to return this time slowly approaching you, your heart was pounding in your chest, and your stomach ached, you didn't know if it was because of nerves or because of the bad state you were in.
The blanket that covered your cage was removed, the sudden light of the place forced you to close your eyes, you heard a slight gasp coming from the one in front of you, trying to adjust to the light, you looked up only to find the most beautiful blue eyes. Conner had knelt to get a better look at you, his gaze went all over your body, trying to find any damage, he didn't find any, but it was obvious that you weren't fine, he looked at your face, analyzing it for a moment. Your skin seemed colorless as did your eyes and hair, if he had been told you were a corpse he would have believed it, but despite your terrible state, Conner couldn't help but be stunned by how beautiful you were, your beauty was from another world, or rather, from another planet.
Without taking your eyes off the stranger in front of you, you muttered a couple of incomprehensible things to Conner, but he didn't need to understand what you were saying, your eyes said it all, you were asking for help.
The Kryptonian held the metal bars of your cage tightly between his hands, and with some effort was able to separate them enough to slide your body through the aperture. You tried to move, but it was impossible, Conner noticed it, so with all the gentleness that was in his being he took you in his arms, your body felt cold, which only alarmed him even more, he needed to get you medical help as soon as possible. Unlike Conner you felt calm, peace, his arms were comfortable and warm, you felt safe.
Conner ran through the halls, desperate to find the rest of the team, the thought of you dying in his arms disturbed him greatly. He followed his footsteps back to the entrance, fortunately, the team intercepted him halfway.
The mission was no big deal, mysterious activity had been detected in a complex of subway laboratories that had been abandoned for more than five years, the activity seemed to be linked to Brain, so they had to go and stop him. Security at the place seemed to be nothing more than a couple of armed drones, the rest of the team acted as decoys while Conner confronted Brain.
— Conner! — M'gann said cheerfully, happy that her boyfriend was safe, but her happiness was replaced by concern at seeing you in such a bad state in Conner's arms.
— She is dying, we have to get her to a hospital, now! — The whole team was shocked for a moment, they were full of questions but knew this was not the time for answers.
They recovered from the shock and began to run as fast as they could towards the exit of the place on their way to the Bioship that had been previously called by Miss Martian. Conner looked at you for a moment, your eyes were closed, you didn't know if it was because of the peace you felt or because of the last vitality you had left, your breathing was slow, and the sound of your heart was barely perceptible to Conner's ears.
In just a matter of minutes the entire team had finally exited the subway facility, just a couple of meters from the ship, the afternoon sun hit your skin and it was then that you could open your eyes, you scrambled into the Kryptonian's arms, attracting his attention and forcing him to stop in his tracks along with the rest of the team, who were looking at you with concern. You moved, your whole body trembling slightly due to your weakened state, your legs tried to free yourself from his arms. Superboy understood instantly what you wanted to do, he released you from his grip still holding your body by your waist, your feet touched the ground, and surprisingly you didn't fall.
You raised your head towards the sun, closed your eyes, and exhaled strongly, feeling the vitality come back to you. Just like if it was magic, all your sickness disappeared as soon as the sun touched your skin, your previously dull body began to recover its brightness. You peeled away from Conner's shoulder, having the strength to stand up on your own, an electrifying blast ran through your body. Your hair regained its (h/c) coloration, glowing brightly as fire, the (e/c) flame in your eyes flared up and your feet lifted off the ground.
A surprised "Wow" came from the lips of the entire team watching you, everyone had stepped back to give you space. A happy chuckle left your lips as you felt life come back to you, you turned around, to face your rescuer. If Conner had thought you were beautiful in your weakened state, now you had left him completely speechless.
— Bedankt dat je me gered hebt! — You told him as you gently took his hand, but Conner's expression was one of confusion, he had never heard a language similar to yours.
— I'm sorry, I can't understand you. — A little apologetic glance came across Superboy's face.
You couldn't understand him either, your smile faded and your eyebrows furrowed slightly, but happiness quickly returned when you remembered something. You lifted your head, and saw Conner again, like it was the most normal thing in the world you pounced on him and captured his lips in a tender, short kiss.
A huge gasp came from the lips of the whole team, after all, Conner had a girlfriend, and she was right there. They thought Superboy would push you away, but he didn't, he didn't reciprocate the kiss, but he didn't pull you away either, and that just made M'gann's heartbreak in his chest.
After no more than five seconds you pulled away from his lips, still with a smile on your face without paying much importance to the kiss. — Thank you, my people can learn different languages through lip-to-lip contact. — You said excitedly to finally be able to have communication.
— You know… — Still floating in the air you turned to look at the red-haired boy. — I can speak some French if you are interested. — Wally winked at you flirtatiously.
— And I know some Spanish! — This time it was Robin who spoke with a cheeky grin on his face.
— Oh! I would love to learn more languages of this planet. — You replied innocently thinking they were trying to teach you when in actuality both boys just wanted a kiss from a beauty like you.
— Wait. — Artemis interrupted the moment making gestures with her hands in the air, she didn't look happy, and she wasn't, a complete stranger had kissed the boyfriend of one of her best friends just like that, she definitely wouldn't keep herself quiet. — No! You can't just kiss someone like… — But a hand on her shoulder stopped her, it was M'gann, a hint of sadness was in her eyes, but she still managed to smile, that was enough to make the blonde step back.
Aqualad stepped forward with his eyes focused on you, he was the only one who dared to break the uncomfortable silence that had taken over the whole place. — I guess you're new on earth. — Despite being a simple observation, Kaldur intended to get more information about you.
— Indeed. I arrived on earth a couple of weeks ago, but Brain managed to capture me, without the sun's rays as a source of energy I was vulnerable to anything and my physical condition deteriorated quickly. That is why I am eternally indebted to you for rescuing me. — That answer seemed to be enough for the team, even so, they had a lot of questions about you.
— Why did you come to earth? — Aqualad questioned, your smile disappeared as soon as you heard his question and your feet touched the ground again.
— My planet, Tamaran, is beautiful and I will always love it. — You looked down at the floor, feeling shame for what you were saying, your arms wrapping around yourself. — But for years it has been in an endless war with another planet, I fought as much as I could, but the war took everything from me, my home, my hopes, my family. I didn't want to, I couldn't live like that, so I escaped, I may have been a coward, but I didn't want to continue living in fear.
The team knew they shouldn't let their guard down against a potential enemy, but the way the sadness pooled in your eyes and the words slipped from your lips, you couldn't be lying. You said nothing more, remaining silent under the empathetic gaze of the team, your eyes fixed on the ground.
A warm touch on one of your hands made you look up and meet those beautiful blue eyes that had freed you from your imprisonment, that beautiful blue gave you the strength to speak again. — I came to earth to find a new beginning, a new life, a new home. — A supportive smile curled on the Kryptonian's lips, he understood perfectly what it was like to want a new start.
It was undeniable that a strange bond had formed between you and Conner since the moment he rescued you, and that wouldn't have been bad, were it not for M'gann, who just watched his boyfriend's hand holding your hand, while his heart squeezed at that moment.
[•••]
A huge silence had settled over Mount Justice, no one seemed to know exactly what to say.
Wally looked around, seeing the discomfort reflected in the eyes of his teammates. — So... — The redhead tried to find something to say but was interrupted.
— What will you do with her? — Conner asked.
After finding you in the lab, the team had to bring you to the Justice League for obvious reasons. They were in charge of interrogating you about your arrival on earth, corroborating that everything you said was nothing but the truth, and judging if it was convenient to let you stay on earth. Fortunately, all went fine, you had nothing to hide, so you let Martian Manhunter enter your mind and see everything he needed to see, ending the interrogation.
— Well, she doesn't seem to be a threat, and apparently, she has certain skills that could be… Useful. — Batman replied, reading once again the file where the League had recorded all the information they had collected about you in the last few hours.
— Will you let her join the team? — M'gann asked, not liking the idea at all.
— We will invite her to join the team, yes, but the decision is hers, if she wants to leave and have a normal life among humans she will be allowed to. However, we will run a test to learn more about her skills. — In the timeliest manner possible, the Z-tubes were activated immediately after Batman completed his sentence.
Red Tornado and Black Canary had returned, but they didn't come alone, behind them were you, you watched the whole place with curiosity until your eyes finally landed on the team, you smiled shyly and waved your hand in the air in greeting.
You wish you could have engaged them in conversation, but Batman had no time to waste. — Well, if you are ready for the test we will proceed. — You shrank back a little under the bat's stern gaze, nodded, not quite sure about going through with the test. — Red Tornado will be your opponent.
Without another word, a small part of the floor of the room where you were standing raised creating a platform. Red Tornado moved, standing on one of the edges of the platform, from one moment to another you felt anxious, the fact of being watched by so many people was strange.
A sigh left your lips, your embarrassment was easy to see, Conner moved, and placed one of his hands on your shoulder, getting your attention. — Don't worry, I'm sure you'll be fine. — He gave you a cute smile, those words were enough to cheer you up.
You floated onto the platform under the watchful eyes of everyone, everyone except M'gann, who watched her boyfriend's eyes sparkle at the sight of you. Her hands clenched into fists, an unpleasant feeling building in her chest.
— Conner. — Through telepathic link contacted her boyfriend. — Can we talk for a moment? — She asked, even if the conversation was mental, the sorrow in her voice was palpable.
— Now? — Your fight with Red Tornado had just begun, and he was certainly curious to see what you could do.
— Yes Conner, now. — This time M'gann's tone in Conner's head was more authoritative.
— Fine…
They both walked away from the rest of the team, nobody seemed to notice since they were too busy spectating your fight against Red Tornado.
— So, what did you want to talk about? — Conner asked, wanting to end the conversation as soon as possible.
The silence remained, the words were stuck in his throat. — You don't love me anymore, do you? — The question left Superboy speechless, he saw that moment coming, but it felt so strange.
— I… — He thought for a moment how to answer that question, lying wouldn't do any good, and he didn't intend to do it either, and it was true, he had stopped loving M'gann some time ago, but when he wanted to end it all the memories of his love came back to him, she had been his first love, and even though that love had faded it still hurt to let it go, but there was no point in being together if there was no love.. — No, I don’t love you anymore.
The words came out of his mouth and pierced like daggers through M'gann's heart. She felt tears forming at the edge of her eyes, she lowered her head, she didn't want Superboy to see the tears she would shed for him. — Then… It's over. — His voice broke with those words, and silence fell over the place again.
A look of sadness dulled Conner's beautiful blue eyes, he may not love M'gann anymore, but he didn't enjoy hurting her, with nothing more to say, he left the place, leaving his first love behind forever.
[•••]
— Welcome to the team! — Wally's cheerful voice echoed throughout Mount Justice along with a couple of chuckles. — I imagine you must feel very fortunate to be teamed up with such a handsome guy like me. — The redhead came up to you and wrapped one of his arms around your shoulders, pulling you close to him.
You simply laughed at Wally's words, it took you a short time to get used to his flirtatious and energetic personality. It had been a week since your confrontation with Red Tornado, you hadn't managed to defeat him, but you had put up a decent fight which surprised the team, after all, they had faced Tornado themselves before and knew how powerful he was. Right after the end of the fight Batman offered you a place in the team, at first you hesitated, you had escaped from a war and you didn't want to enter another one, usually, in Tamaran everyone was on their own, so seeing how the heroes used their abilities and powers to help others had generated a strange feeling in you, seeing how everyone trusted their lives in the hands of heroes they didn't know.
So you accepted the invitation, and here you were, the team had thrown you a little welcome party, you felt your heart beating happily being with them, they reminded you how nice it felt to have a home, Tamaran had stopped feeling like that since you lost your family.
— By the way, we still have a pending French lesson. — Wally looked at you, wiggling his eyebrows up and down.
— Yeah… I don't think so. — Conner grabbed the redhead’s shoulder gently pulling him away from you and taking his place next to your side, you had awoken a small protective instinct in him. — Why don't we have some cake? — The Kryptonian asked you, hoping to draw your attention away from Wally.
— Cake? — You asked him a bit confused.
— Yes, cake. Have you ever tasted cake?
You shook your head, you didn't remember eating anything with that name. — I don't think so. What is it? What does it taste like? — You asked curiously as you intertwined your arm with Conner's arm.
A small chuckle slipped out of Superboy's lips when he saw how much you could get excited over a simple cake. — Well… — Before you knew it both of you were in the kitchen along with the rest of the team.
— Why don't you find out on your own? — Artemis asked holding out a slice of cake towards you, you looked at it for a moment, detached yourself from Conner's arm and held the dish in your hands, picked up a fork, and poked at the fluffy piece of cake taking a small bite to your lips.
As soon as you tasted it a little noise of happiness came out of you. — It's delicious! — The excitement emanating from you brought a few smiles to the team.
— M'gann always makes the best cakes. — Wally's words were barely audible due to the cake in his mouth, but the smiles of the entire team faded at the mention of M'gann.
You looked around, watching the faces of the whole team change to an expression of sadness, everyone was aware of the breakup between Conner and M'gann, it was something they all saw coming, yet they still were sorry for their friends. You didn't know, you didn't even know that the two of them were dating when you arrived, the whole team agreed not to tell you, after all, they all knew that Conner might have feelings for you, besides, it was none of his business to tell you or not.
— Where is she? — You asked, you had noticed her absence at the party, but you hadn't found the opportunity to ask about her.
— In her room, she wasn't feeling very well. — Kaldur replied, not sure if he should have said the last thing.
— Oh…I see. — You answered somewhat worried about M'gann.
The place was immersed into an uncomfortable silence for a couple of seconds, no one knew how to continue with the conversation, you could feel the sorrow of your teammates and now friends.
Fortunately, the silence ended with the loud sound of Robin clearing his throat earning the attention of all the team members, he looked at them with an inquisitive gaze trying to communicate something to them.
— Oh, the gift! — Wally shouted before leaving the room at super speed and returning with a nice gift box in his hands.
The whole team turned to you with a smile, the redhead held out the gift in front of you.
— Is this for me? — You asked stunned
— Of course it is. — Conner replied at your side, watching your reaction closely.
You carefully removed the cover of the box, a small gasp left your lips when you saw what was inside, carefully picking it up and looking at it with a huge smile on your face.
— We thought that now that you are part of the team you would need a suit. — Robin said pleased with your reaction to the gift. — Batman designed it to completely fit with your abilities and powers. — He smiled proudly showing off his mentor's work.
— It’s beautiful! — You hugged the beautiful suit to your chest unable to contain your excitement.
— Why don't you go and try it on? — Conner suggested. — You know, just to make sure it fits. — He added, blushing slightly.
[•••]
You left your room with your suit already on, a bright smile decorating your face, you walked down the hallway back to the kitchen, but your smile faded slightly as did your walk, you heard a couple of sobs coming from one of the rooms, you turned in that direction, it wasn't hard to guess who the cry was from, you approached, standing in front of M'gann's door.
The sound of her sobbing only got louder, you stood still for a moment, you didn't want to disturb her, but leaving her alone while she cried didn't make you feel good either, you knocked on the door's wood with your knuckles.
— ¿M’gann? ¿Are you okay? — As soon as the words left your lips the sobs ended.
A moment of silence followed. — Please leave me alone… — M'gann's broken voice came from the other side of the door.
— I'm sorry, I didn't mean to bother you… — You hesitated for a second. — I know how it feels to be sad and wants to be alone, but I also know how bad it feels to be sad and lonely. — You said remembering the lonely moments before you left Tamaran. — No one deserves that… — You remained silent, you had nothing more to say, but before you could leave the place, the door opened leaving you in front of M'gann.
You both looked at each other for a couple of seconds, you watched her eyes, they looked sad, dull, and swollen, you didn't even know why, but your first instinct was to go to her and put your arms around her. She returned the embrace, her sobs came back echoing down the hallway, she buried her face in your shoulder crying inconsolably just like you both had been friends for years.
M'gann wouldn't deny it, even though it wasn't like her, deep down she felt some resentment towards you, after all, you had stolen the heart of the one she loved, but she couldn't blame you, it's not like you had done it on purpose, besides, there was something about you, the way you acted, the innocence and wonder with which you explored the human world, you reminded her of herself when she came to earth. You, on the other hand, didn't know M'gann like the rest of the team, but you could sense a joyful and gentle soul in her.
She continued crying for a couple more minutes, her sobs fading until they completely disappeared and so did the weight of her head on your shoulder. Both pulled away from each other, M'gann brought her hands to her face and wiped away the traces of her tears.
— I'm sorry. — M'gann apologized, ashamed that you saw her in that way, you wanted to tell her not to worry, but she interrupted you before you could do it. — I thought your welcome party was today.
— It is. — You replied not wanting to lie to her.
— Oh, then I guess you'd better go. — She answered wrapping her arms around herself.
— Why don't you come? Maybe that will help you clear your head for a moment. — It was obvious that you didn't know what was going on, if you did you wouldn't have suggested that knowing that she would have to see Conner.
M'gann would have refused without hesitation, but right now, she didn't want to be alone, she didn't want to cry anymore, a sad little smile appeared on her lips. — I guess you're right.
You smiled at her and took her hand leading the way back with the others, as you approached the living room you could hear the laughter of your teammates, which ended as quickly as they saw you arrive with M'gann. As soon as she had the team in front of her took a step back feeling embarrassed. You squeezed her hand in encouragement and smiled cheerfully at her.
— I thought you would have space for one more. — She said shyly, suddenly feeling strange towards her friends.
The team shared a couple of glances and then smiled sweetly and approached to give her friend a warm welcome, except for Conner of course, who remained in his place somewhat uncomfortably but his eyes quickly caught your figure.
— Hey. — He said quietly approaching you. — I like the suit. — He looked you up and down, appreciating your new suit.
— Thanks! — You replied blushing at the compliment.
Conner's lips parted to say something else, but he was interrupted by the laughter of the team who were trying to cheer M'gann.
— Can we talk somewhere else? — It wasn't like Conner didn't want to be with the rest of the team, but he knew he wouldn't be comfortable joining the conversation with M'gann.
— Of course, maybe some fresh air would be good for us. — You interlocked your arm with Conner's and both of you walked towards the exit of Mount Justice through the zeta tube.
— Wow. — You said as you stood outside and looked up at the night sky. — It's that late? Time really flies by with you guys. — You sighed admiring the stars and enjoying the fresh air of Happy Harbor.
Your feet came slightly off the ground feeling the breeze hitting your skin, the sky could be seen reflected in your eyes making them look even more beautiful than they already were, or at least that's how it was for Conner. The Kryptonian looked at you, even though you had only met a few weeks ago, he felt connected to you, even though you were so different, he felt that in one way or another you were similar. His heart was racing at the sight of you, but his heart weakened a little when he saw the sad look in your eyes.
— What's wrong? — He asked, approaching you and lightly holding your hand.
You turned your gaze towards him, not bothering to hide your sadness, a small bitter chuckle leaked out of your lips.
— I came here to forget about Tamaran and start again, but even so, I can't stop thinking about it. — You lowered your head sadly, when you left your planet behind you didn't think you would miss it so much.
— And that's okay. — Conner gently held your waist with his hands and you wrapped his arms around his neck, maybe for many people that seemed like a very intimate touch but for you, it felt... Right. — You don't have to forget Tamaran, everything that happened there makes you who you are now. It's fine to want a new beginning, but you should never forget where you came from.
You listened carefully to Conner's words, and he was right, you didn't want to forget Tamaran, but you wished that someday you could remember it without feeling a stab of pain in your heart. Trying to distract yourself from those thoughts you looked down at Conner's chest noticing the symbol that had been there since you met him.
— What does it mean? — You asked curiously as one of your hands left his shoulder and moved to his chest.
— Hope. — A smile came to your face when you heard Conner's answer, remembering the hope that emerged in your life when he rescued you.
— It suits you… — You looked directly into his eyes, losing yourself again in that beautiful blue ocean, a cute smile formed on the Kryptonian's lips.
You left a small and tender kiss on the corner of his lips, the arms around your waist pressed you closer to him, your head rested on his shoulder, both of you remained like that, in the light of the night melted in each other's arms.
This was definitely the new beginning you were looking for.

Human life, something so insignificant and fragile, but at the same time so wonderful and intriguing, from its inception found a way to thrive with nothing but their ingenuity and survival instinct. Creating entire civilizations and communities, banding together to fight adversity, evolving through the years to become what they are today.
For you it was simply extraordinary, for hundreds of years you watched them closely, learning from them at the distance and occasionally protecting them from major adversities without leaving a trace. You were the complete opposite of your "brother" Klarion, you knew he would never understand your admiration for humans, just as you would never understand his uncontrollable desire to cause chaos. That was why you never fit in The Light, you didn't desire to cause chaos, but you had agreed to join at your brother's request, even so, your participations were minimal, almost nonexistent, and despite being on the side of the "villains", it was always wonderful for you to see how the heroes protected those who couldn't protect themselves.
So, after thinking about it for a long time you decided to leave The Light and explore the modern world, and as expected, Klarion was the first to disagree, for him it was impossible to assimilate that his little sister had so much interest in a species as inferior as humans. Although it was hard for him to accept it, eventually he respected your decision to explore the world as a human, even so, he always took care of watching you closely, regardless of whether you were a member of The Light or not.
— Where do you think you're going? — Your brother's voice echoed behind you taking you by surprise, even though you and Klarion rarely stayed in the same place for long, you both had taken over one of Gotham's many abandoned mansions, making sure to scare off anyone who tried to approach with magic. You could say you lived there, though most of the time it was just you.
— I'm going to the circus, Klarion. — You turned around to face your brother. — Do you want to come with me? I have an extra ticket for the show in Geneva. — A huge smile came across your face, you loved spending time with Klarion.
— Of course not, those things are for little kids, I have more important things to do like cause chaos. — An egomaniacal smile formed on Klarion's lips.
— However, I'm leaving. — You turned around again walking towards the door, ready to leave, but your brother appeared in front of you cutting you off.
— I didn't give you permission to leave. — Klarion's tone was authoritative, sometimes he took his role as your "brother" very seriously.
— Klarion, I'm hundreds of years old, I don't need your permission. — You crossed your arms over your chest in indignation.
The witch boy remained silent for a couple of seconds, finally, a sigh of resignation left his lips.
— Fine, I want you here before ten o'clock, don't talk to strangers and take a sweater with you.
A huge victorious smile came to your lips.
— I'll be back in a while. — You approached your brother and sweetly kissed his cheek as a farewell.
— Do you have your familiar with you? — Klarion asked as you stood just inches from the door.
— I do. — You pointed to the bag hanging from your shoulder, your familiar was small and most of the time was asleep, so it was easy for you to carry it that way.
Finally, you smiled one last time at your brother and left the mansion.
The witch boy remained in his place for a moment. — I have a bad feeling Teekl… — The feline simply answered with a meow that echoed through the walls of the empty mansion.
Despite his foreboding Klarion left the place behind disappearing into a portal ready to cause chaos.
[•••]
The night sky seemed darker than usual, but that only made the lights that adorned each of the tents shine more brightly, the laughter of happiness mixed with the soft circus music gave you a warm feeling in your chest, an atmosphere so cozy and yet so unfamiliar to you, you remained static while you watched all the families and children, seeing the innocence and emotion reflected in the eyes of each one of the kids was magical to you, no matter how many years you spent among humans they always were able to surprise you.
The number of people outside decreased quickly, apparently everyone was excited about the show, not wanting to be left behind you moved forward until you finally found yourself inside the tent, moving slowly through the darkness finding an empty seat for you, the view from there seemed to be just right, it wasn't too close to the ground, but it wasn't too high either, it was perfect.
The place remained in darkness for a couple more minutes, the only thing that could be heard were the whispers of excited children that were quickly interrupted by the rumble of a drum, in a matter of seconds the whole place was silent, the crowd was expectant of what was to come.
— Ladies and gentlemen. — Two spotlights illuminated the place, focusing on the center of the tent and revealing a man who appeared to be the master of ceremonies of the circus. — Welcome! To Haly's circus, the only circus where everything you think is possible gets overshadowed by the impossibilities you will see here. — Once said that a huge rumble echoed through the place accompanied by a huge smoke layer, the master of ceremony had disappeared and the lights went out again. A small gasp of surprise escaped from the lips of the entire audience, including you. It was ironic to think how being a "Lord of Chaos" who has lived millions of years you would be impressed by a smoke trick, if Klarion was there he would surely call you dumb for being impressed by something like that.
The show continued, and you were certainly enjoying it more than expected, clowns, music, jugglers, it was all a delight for you to watch, you could easily be mistaken for one of the many infants who watched the show with a unique excitement. And it was then that the master of ceremony interfered in the show again, the music had stopped and the lights had faded, which silenced the crowd.
— Ladies and gentlemen, the farewell performance of the Daring Dangers! — The excited cheers from the crowd were immediate, even though you didn't know them you joined in welcoming them with a round of applause, apparently, they were recognized artists in the industry, and that only made you feel more excited to see them perform.
The spotlights illuminated the place again, this time focusing on the upper part of the circus, making you notice the presence of two trapeze artists, and the show began. Despite the presence of the other four Dangers, you could not take your eyes off one of the trapeze artists, his movements were so elegant, so fluid, so hypnotizing, it was impossible to take your eyes off him, he had captivated you.
The young trapeze artist twirled through the air gracefully earning a gasp of surprise from the audience, his eyes roamed the crowd with a smile, enjoying the feeling he had forgotten since the death of his parents, and then his beautiful blue eyes met yours. Dick's heart jumped in his chest, and not out of emotion or love, but out of fear, he knew who you were, it was easy for him to recognize you, he had encountered you before, you were (Y/N) Bleak, Klarion's sister and a "Lord of Chaos" according to Kent Nelson himself.
Your presence might mean an attack from the light, Dick was worried, there were hundreds of children and innocents in the audience, however, this was not the time to panic, Dick knew perfectly well that the slightest mistake in the air could be deadly, he decided it would be best to stay calm and keep your presence to himself, keeping an eye on you, the team already had enough that day.
[•••]
People were slowly starting to leave the tent, the show was over and everyone seemed more than satisfied, you got up from your seat and started walking towards the exit, the circus had been accompanied by a small carnival, so even though that had been the last show of the circus there were still lots of people enjoying the attractions of the carnival, you walked among the people, thinking if you should have fun for a while at the carnival or go back home. A distant voice called out behind you, you ignored it, too focused on your thoughts. One, two, three steps behind you until finally a soft tap on your shoulder stopped you, turning around, again, finding yourself face to face with those beautiful blue eyes.
You looked him up and down, your face softened when you saw his clothes, it was nothing more and nothing less than the acrobat who had been stealing your interest, this time, thanks to the absence of his mask you could appreciate his face, you couldn't lie, he was good looking.
— Oh, you're one of the Daring Dangers, aren't you? Can I help you with something? — Even though you knew he was the trapeze artist who had captivated you at the show you couldn't help but think he looked familiar from somewhere else.
— I… — Dick had gone blank when he had you in front of him. Remembering that time he had the "pleasure" of meeting you for the first time, the power emanated from you, your eyes burning bright red as you fired attack after attack, you were so powerful and imposing, but now, you looked so different, there seemed to be no evil in you, your eyes were a nice shade of (e/c) and the small smile on your face seemed genuine, you looked so... Human, and he didn't know if that made him feel more confident or more uneasy. — I just... I saw you in the crowd at the circus, and... And I wanted to know your opinion about the show! — A slight smile came to the acrobat's lips, he knew his excuse was lame, but he didn't show his insecurity.
— Oh, well… — You hesitated a bit about what to answer, after all, you didn't expect one of the circus acrobats to come and personally ask your opinion. — I really enjoyed it, I had never seen anything like that… — You thought some more about what to say, for a moment you contemplated telling him how much you were captivated by his performance, but that would be a little embarrassing. — It was... Beautiful, magical.
— I'm glad the show was to the liking of such a beautiful lady. — A shy smile graced your lips, compliments were something you weren't used to. — How rude of me, I didn't introduce myself, I'm Richard, Richard Grayson. — Dick decided to stick with his cover story, or at least for now. He held out his hand, waiting for you to take it.
You looked at it for a moment remembering that it was a human practice to shake hands after meeting someone. — I’m (Y/N) Bleak.
It was so impossible for Dick to take in that the beautiful girl in front of him was the same one he had fought months ago, the same one who had taken down his entire team in a matter of minutes, it's like you're a completely different person. For a moment he paused to think, since that time he fought you he hadn't seen you work with the light again, neither did you have any criminal activity on your own. But still, he wanted to be careful, he decided to continue his interaction with you to try to get some information.
— So (Y/N), you're not from around here, are you? — The boy wonder began to walk slowly through the crowd, you followed him closely keeping up with his conversation.
— No, not really. — As both of you moved forward you couldn't help but stare in amazement at each one of the rides, your eyes reflected the excitement and innocence that the eyes of a child being taken there for the first time would reflect, something that didn't go unnoticed by Dick.
— What, you've never been to a carnival before? — Even though he had said it as a joke he was surprised when he saw you shyly deny with your head. — Oh… — He was silent for a moment, an idea crossed his mind, he knew that if Batman were there he would be reprimanded for letting his guard down in front of a possible enemy, but... But for Richard Grayson, it was never a bad time for a date with a pretty girl. — Then, we have to make the first time unforgettable. — You were about to ask him what he meant by that, but before you knew it, his hand held yours, leading you quickly through the crowd to the line of one of the many rides. — I'm sure you will love the roller coaster, believe me, you will never forget the feeling of the first time.
Although the rides were supposed to be fun for humans, you still felt intrigued when you saw the horrified faces of most of the passengers on the "roller coaster". — Why do they look so scared? — You asked your companion.
— You'll see it soon. — A cute smile spread across Dick's face, you looked down, noticing that his hand was still holding yours, his hand radiated warmth and made you feel comfortable.
The line moved quickly, and soon it was your turn, you followed Dick's steps and got on the roller coaster (Not without first leaving your bag in the care of one of the carnival employees), the attendant made sure you had all the necessary safety measures, and then it began. A small gasp of surprise escaped your lips as you felt the movement, a smile came to your face, for the first time in a long time you felt excitement, slowly you were gaining altitude until you reached the highest point and stopped there for a couple of seconds.
Dick looked at you for a moment, a huge excited smile on your face, "What a beautiful smile" he thought, he was so distracted that he completely forgot where he was, his smile faded when he felt the quick descent of the roller coaster, his back crashed against the seat due to the force of the fall, the horrible screams of the passengers didn't wait, and you, unlike them, seemed totally excited by the adrenaline of the moment, something to be expected from a Lord of chaos.
[•••]
— It was amazing! — You said still excited about your roller coaster ride. — Can we try it again? — You cheerfully asked the acrobat who seemed a little dizzier than you.
— Why don't we walk around and see what else we can find? — Dick suggested. You looked around, and indeed, there were still many things that caught your attention.
This time it was you who took his hand to guide the way through the people, for you it was just a way to avoid losing him among all the people, but the feeling of his hand was comforting. You looked at everything around you with a certain wonder in your eyes, Richard couldn't help but look at you with softness, seeing you so amazed by things that for him were so ordinary touched him. You walked for a couple of minutes until something seemed to catch your attention, it was one of those little aiming attractions about shooting hoops, but that didn't seem to interest you, what had caught your attention was one of the big, colorful, fluffy stuffed animals that were given as prizes.
— Want to give it a try? — Dick asked, pointing toward the hoops.
— Oh no no, I've always been very bad at aiming. — You denied somewhat embarrassed, but Richard wouldn't take a no for an answer.
— Come on, it'll be fun. — The boy wonder gently dragged you over to the hoop stand, paid a dollar to the attendant at the attraction who handed you three hoops. You closed one of your eyes trying to aim to get it right, but just as you expected you missed all three. A snort left your lips earning a small chuckle from Dick. — Let me try. — He paid another dollar, he knew perfectly well that these games were designed to lose, but please, he was Robin. Without making a major effort to aim he threw all three hoops at the same time getting each of the shots right. A silent gasp of surprise came from your lips which brought a slight proud smirk to his face.
— Okay kid, you won, pick your prize. — The stand attendant pointed to the different gadgets and stuffed animals to choose from, but Dick already had it clear.
— I want that one. — He pointed to the huge stuffed animal that had caught your attention before, the employee handed him the stuffed animal, he looked at it for a moment and then held it out to you with a bright smile.
— For me? — You blinked for a second, stunned by Dick's cute gesture, he just nodded smiling, hesitantly you took the stuffed animal from his hands, your eyes wandered a couple of times between the stuffed animal and Richard's beautiful eyes, you had never received a gift from a human before. — Thank you... — You hugged the stuffed animal against your chest trying to hide the pink that was beginning to grow on your cheeks.
A strange feeling that you couldn't identify came to your stomach, it was similar to what you felt when you were on the roller coaster, but it was different.
— Come on, I'm sure there's still a lot you'd like to see. — He reached out his hand to you and without even thinking you took it, letting him guide your way.
All the people who walked by and noticed the two of you thought you were a young and beautiful couple in love, although that was far from being real. You were just two souls brought together by the paths of fate, two souls that somehow fit together perfectly, chaos and order, although the word "chaos" had never described you well. You momentarily thought of Klarion's reaction if he saw you at this moment, sharing such close interaction with a human, he would probably squirm with anger and disappointment, just like the other Lords of Chaos who had surely witnessed it all from their place in the cosmos. Certainly, you sensed that none of them were happy with your job on earth, but you couldn't care less, you knew that no matter how hard you tried you weren't like them.
You would have been lost in a sea of your thoughts if not for a lovely scent reaching your nostrils. You stopped in your tracks, forcing the boy wonder to do the same. You closed your eyes and exhaled sharply making your “date” laugh.
— What's that smell? — Guided by the scent, you started walking, dragging Dick with you, who seemed both amused and moved by your behavior. You took a couple of steps until you found the source of the enchanting smell, a small cotton candy stand. You watched as the little clouds of sugar took shape, the gleam of excitement could be seen in your eyes. — Do you want one? It's on me. — You asked Richard as you searched through your purse until you found what you needed, a couple of dollars that Klarion had given you a long time ago in case you needed to make a purchase.
— Sure. — The boy wonder shrugged his shoulders not wanting to reject your proposal.
You paid for both cotton candy, taking a bite to your mouth as soon as you had it in your hands, you tasted the bite just like it was the most delicious food in the world, you concentrated so much on the taste that you didn't feel how a small sugar stain remained on the skin next to your lips.
— Wait, you have a... — Dick pointed to the side of his own lips, but driven by inertia he moved his hand and removed the small spot with his thumb leaving it there for a couple of seconds longer than necessary. — I'm sorry, you had sugar on your cheek.
— Oh, thank you. — Finally, he withdrew his hand, your face began to burn, and the unfamiliar sensation took hold of your chest once again, it was so strange to feel this way. As a Lord of Chaos who had lived for centuries on earth it was normal to see human emotions, but never to feel them, it made you feel vulnerable, but at the same time it excited you.
[•••]
The hours passed quickly, neither knew exactly how much time had passed, but both could feel how your time together was coming to its end, walking in silence, feeling the warmth your hands produced together, and enjoying each other's company.
— It's getting late… — Dick finally dared to end the comfortable silence that enveloped the two of you.
— Yeah… — You replied a little awkwardly.
You both knew it was time to leave, but neither of you wanted to say goodbye.
Richard stopped, forcing you to do the same, he stood in front of you and looked at you with some embarrassment, he didn't know exactly how to end your "date", he doubted that accompanying you home would be a good option. — I think we should…
— Wow… — The words left your lips like a whisper, even though Dick was in front of you your attention seemed to have been stolen by something behind him.
He turned around, realizing what it was, you moved forward, unable to take your eyes off what had so attracted you, Dick followed close behind you, his heart gave a little jump at seeing you so surprised.
— What's that? — You ask, pointing slightly to the machine in front of you.
— It's a carousel. — Just as you couldn't take your eyes off the carousel Dick couldn't take his eyes off you. The soft lights of the carousel illuminated you in a beautiful way, and the bright reflection in your eyes was simply lovely, a smile formed on his lips. A few hours ago he saw you as a threat, and now the idea of you being a Lord of Chaos was completely out of his mind.
He shook his head still smiling and started walking, his hands were still together, you followed his steps without even questioning where he was taking you, your eyes focused on the carousel. Without you even noticing, Dick had guided you to the entrance of the carousel so you could both get on together, you felt the warmth of his hand leaving yours, which made you come out of your trance and look for him, it was then that you noticed where he had guided you to. The machine had stopped spinning, all the people in had left the attraction so the others in line could have their turn, you saw his back in front of you, he walked up the stairs and then turned around extending his arm to help you up, with your heart beating fast you accepted his hand and went up.
Your lips turned into a small smile as soon as you climbed onto the plastic horse beautifully detailed with different colors that made it look vibrant, Dick was next to you riding a nice black plastic horse with red and blue details.
The music slowly began to play, you could feel the machine begin to move; the smile on your face only grew bigger with each movement, you turned to look at your companion only to see that he was smiling as much as you were, your eyes met once again, a feeling of warmth and joy invaded your chest, a feeling that had come over you multiple times in the night, you thought it was because of everything you had experienced at the carnival, but it was none of that, it was him, he was guilty of such a feeling, how bold of a simple human to cause such feelings in you, a Lord of Chaos, but the feeling was not unpleasant to you, and neither was he.
You lost yourself in his eyes, during your long existence you had been able to glimpse all kinds of blues, but without a doubt, the most beautiful so far was the blue of his eyes. For a moment you realized that today you had witnessed countless things that you would describe as beautiful, but you didn't realize that the most beautiful of all was him.
Your hand reached out in the air taking his, you exchanged a smile and continued enjoying the beautiful moment, it was so perfect, so magical, you could swear that at that moment it was just the two of you, but all good things came to an end and that moment was no exception; you both stepped off the carousel, your hands together as was now becoming habitual.
— It's late, I think I'd better go home. — Even though it was a farewell there was no sadness in your words, it was like you knew that fate would lead you to him again.
— Yeah, I think I should go too. — Dick was also peaceful, he had no doubt that you would meet again, after all, he had put a tracker on your bag, so as long as you didn't notice it he would be able to know your location, he just hoped, that the next time your paths crossed would be in this way, and not as enemies.
You remained silent for a second, your hand released his, and as soon as you did you began to miss the warmth of his skin, you remembered a weird human habit you had witnessed multiple times before. You moved your hand to his shoulder and drew him down gently pressing your lips on the skin of his cheek.
— Thank you for tonight Richard, it was wonderful. — The surprise on the boy wonder's face was replaced by a sweet smile.
— I promise next time will be even better. — His words only made you more certain that you would see him again. You smiled at him one last time and slowly walked away, losing yourself in the darkness of the night as Richard watched your silhouette fade away.
His smile never left his face, Batman would probably kill him and the team would blast him with questions when he returned, but it would be worth it. Without a doubt, this day had been a roller coaster of emotions for the two of you, your hearts longed with excitement for your next meeting.

You never knew where evil grew, but you knew evil well, it was something you could see every day since you were a child, it was a silent beast that destroyed people before they realized it, and they fell into its grip just like dominoes.
You were just a child, a child scared of himself, scared of the things you could do, everyone turned their back on you, and when you lost all hope they showed up, promising to give you the help you so desperately needed, they offered you a hand you didn't hesitate to take, after all, it was the Justice League. It was wonderful at first, they gave you a home and a warmth you had never felt before, you belonged somewhere, and they said they were happy to help you, or so it was for a while.
You thought they really wanted to help you, they seemed to know about the chaotic nature of your abilities and how tied they were to your emotions making them unpredictable and dangerous. You were tested multiple times, to fully understand your powers, you didn't complain, if there was a single opportunity to learn how to control them, you would do whatever it took, yet the results were always negative, requiring more tests, all of which turned out to have negative results. Hours, days, weeks, and months went by, you thought it was just bad luck, that they had been unable to find a way to help you, but deep inside you could not help but think that something was wrong, the empty looks they gave you from time to time, the way they sometimes referred to you as a simple object of study or how they avoided giving you the concrete results of the tests, but despite everything, you kept your faith in them, after all, they were your only option.
Things remained like that for months, until they finally gave up, the tests ended, and like many other people, they turned their backs on you, they broke all the hopes you had, but certainly, you could see it coming, even so, the pain you felt was inevitable. It was evident that they would not let you continue with your life as a "normal" civilian, that is when they decided to restrain you against your own will, they locked you up, they isolated you like a criminal when your only crime had been to trust them.
You refused, or at first, you did, but they knew perfectly well how and where to strike, "You are dangerous and you know it" "If we let you go you will put thousands of innocents at risk", "You can't control it, this is the best for you", you gave in, not for them, not for you, but for all those innocents you feared could be victims of your power. A couple of years had gone like that, you practically grew up locked up in the watchtower, the treatment they gave you wasn't that different from the treatment they would give to a prisoner in Belle Reve, with the only difference that even being considered a threat by the league you were trained to be a formidable fighter and sometimes you were allowed to experiment with your powers, they had forced you to be a soldier, a soldier who had never been in the battlefield. But that changed not long after.
Without being asked, the League decided that you would be a member of the new team of young heroes, they believed it would be a good opportunity for you to learn, but it was obvious that they would take their precautions, the most notorious one being a collar designed by Batman himself that prevented you from fully using your powers, without forgetting that he had asked the Boy Wonder to keep an eye on you just in case. The team wasn't as bad as you think it would be, none of them seemed to judge you, or at least not in front of you.
— Isn't she dangerous? — Superboy asked. Really? Superman's teenage clone with anger issues thought you were dangerous, how ironic.
Your back was against the wall trying your best to listen to your teammate's conversation without being discovered.
— It’s not only dangerous, but it’s also unstable according to Batman's records... — Robin replied.
— We must be alert to her moves. — This time Aqualad spoke.
Even if you were already used to it, you felt sad to be seen as a threat by them, but the sadness wasn't the only thing you felt, you also felt anger and impotence, no matter how hard you tried to be good in the eyes of the other heroes you would always be seen that way.
[•••]
The whole team believed that this would be a simple mission to search for Mr. Kent Nelson, but things had taken a stranger turn than expected.
It was there when you saw him for the first time, his skin was extremely pale you could say it was of a grayish hue, his onyx eyes reflected something strange that was impossible to describe, and you couldn't avoid noticing the horns sticking out of his head or maybe it was just an unusual haircut. His physical appearance could be described as nothing more and nothing less than "Chaotic"; the aura that surrounded him was, without a doubt, pure chaos. Despite your intense gaze on the witch boy he didn't pay you the slightest attention, his priority was getting the helmet.
— Friends of yours? — Wally asked Mr. Kent helping him move to dodge the other two attacks that approached you.
You concentrated on dodging Abra Kadraba's attacks, but Mr. Nelson pulled your sleeve by dragging you alongside him and Wally. You reappeared on what seemed to be the roof of the tower of destiny, the distinctive helmet of Doctor Fate remained in the air, one of Mr. Kent's hands reached out to grab it, but was struck in the chest by a scarlet bolt of lightning.
— Mr. Nelson! — Wally and you shouted in sync as you approached him, concerned about his health.
A groan of pain escaped the poor man's lips but he still had enough strength to create a shield that would protect you momentarily.
— Not bad for a former Doctor Fake, eh, kid? — Mr. Nelson collapsed being gently held by Wally, you approached them kneeling next to the redhead.
— The bubble will give you just enough time to do what you need to do.
— We have no idea what we need to do. — Wally said in a slight panic, glancing at you.
— Have faith in what you can’t explain. — The man took out his pocket watch, taking a last look at the picture of his beloved Inza. — Believe in what you can no longer deny. — Before the words could leave your lips Mr. Nelson finally faded into Wally's arms, who looked at you with half-open lips and a look that was divided between sadness and uncertainty, you lowered your head heavily only to find yourself looking at the small golden pocket watch, you took it gently between your fingers looking at Inza's photo.
You were startled when you heard the noises caused by the impact of the witch boy's attacks against the shield that protected the two of you, you looked at him for a moment, the anger and annoyance were reflected in the frown on his face, you looked back at Wally who was already looking at you.
— Now what?... — His voice was barely an anxious whisper.
— I want that helmet and I want it now! — A more powerful attack was launched by Klarion toward the bubble creating an immense smokescreen, the witch boy thought that when the smoke dissipated he would see the bubble finally destroyed, but instead, you were there with your hands outstretched creating a shield that withstood the attack.
Without even knowing how, you got out of the bubble leaving behind Wally who was desperately trying to reanimate Mr. Nelson's corpse, at least you were sure that he and the helmet would be safe inside the bubble.
— Then come for it. — You said, a dry but mocking laugh came from your opponent's lips. Klarion was surprised, he wouldn't admit it, but he was, he was surprised that you were able to withstand the attack, his attack.
Klarion threw his attacks at you one after another, you stuck your feet to the ground in an attempt to prevent the impact of his attacks from pushing you back, but it was impossible, with each blow your feet crawled backward and the shield you had materialized was getting weaker with every second.
— (Y/N), Wally. We’re in trouble. Tell Kent we need Doctor Fate. — You heard M'gann inside your head distracting you from your fight with the witch boy.
That distraction was enough for Klarion to finally break your shield with one of his attacks, but he didn't stop there, he sent two fireballs in your direction, you managed to dodge the first, but the second hit right on your shoulder managing to knock you down. You held your hand on your shoulder holding it tightly, a growl of pain slipped through your lips.
The witch boy's mocking laughter echoed in the air. — That's it? Ha! For a moment you almost had me believing that you would be a real challenge. — Your teeth clenched in irritation, you knew he was just teasing you, but he was pissing you off. Ignoring the pain in your shoulder you stood up, Klarion's teasing gaze was fixed on you. — What? You're going to cry? — He asked with amusement and then laughed again, but his laughter was quickly interrupted by your attacks, you threw three energy balls at him, and to your luck you got two of the three hits, knocking down Klarion who quickly stood up to look at you with an expression of anger.
This time the witch boy seemed more annoyed than before, you saw how he began to conjure a spell to counterattack, it didn't seem a simple spell, so you deduced that one of your shields would not be enough to stop it, you still summoned a shield and closed your eyes waiting for the impact, you heard the rumble of the attack, when you opened your eyes you realized that Doctor Fate had stopped Klarion's attack.
— I got it, go help your friends. — You assumed Fate was talking about the rest of the team, you took one last look at the witch boy only to realize that he was already looking at you, his narrowed eyes reflected an emotion that was hard for you to decipher, and then, a strangely mischievous smile appeared on his lips, you felt a strange warmth envelop you under his gaze.
Without saying anything you nodded towards Doctor Fate and went to help your "friends" leaving behind the strange feeling caused by the witch boy.
[•••]
You looked at the gravestone in front of you for the last time reading the name engraved on the stone once again, "Kent Nelson", The League had decided to bury him in the Tower of Fate next to the gravestone of his beloved Inza. You turned around and started walking back to Mount Justice; the wind was getting colder and colder, and the rain showed no signs of stopping anytime soon, the streets were mostly empty, looking more gray and melancholy than usual, but you thought that was just your idea.
The sun had completely set, and artificial light from the lanterns and shop windows guided your way. Your gaze was focused on your feet watching carefully the paved road, but you stopped in your tracks when you were interrupted by a kitten that approached you from an alley, despite the torrential rain its fur looked completely dry, it walked around you and then quickly moved away towards the alley disappearing in the darkness, you looked around, being the only person in that street, you hesitated for a second but decided to follow the kitten to the entrance of the alley where he showed up again, you knelt trying to pet it, but something was familiar about that cat, you narrowed your eyes watching him carefully, it was then that you noticed his eyes as bright as a pair of rubies and the gem of his necklace that you managed to remember where you had it seen before.
— Wait… — You stood up knowing that if that cat was here, its owner shouldn't be far away and you were right.
Before you could make any move you were caught from behind, one arm wrapped around your neck and another around your waist pulling you tightly back, fortunately for you, your attacker didn't seem to have the slightest idea of hand-to-hand combat and it was easy for you to free yourself from his grip with a single strike from your elbow directed towards the ribs, earning you a whining pain from your attacker. You quickly took your distance and turned around facing the one you expected to see.
Once again you were face to face with the witch boy, you took a defensive posture ready for any attack that could come from Klarion, but the witch boy was still recovering from your strike, lightly rubbing the area where you hit him. You moved your eyes slightly looking around, the cold wind and rain were gone, and you realized that you were no longer outside, Klarion had teleported you to what seemed to be an old abandoned theater.
— That was rude. — The witch boy said, crossing his arms in indignation as his familiar jumped to his shoulders.
He had kidnapped you and you were supposed to be the rude one? You threw your attacks one after another toward the witch boy, although most of them ended up smashing against the walls of the old theater.
— Wait, I'm not here to fight. — Klarion seemed to be telling the truth, if he really wanted to fight he would have already done it. And although it was true that he had no intention of fighting, he would not stand idly by when you were attacking him. With a single movement, he managed to immobilize you with a spell that simulated large hands. You squirmed trying to free yourself from his grip but gave up as you felt the grip grow tighter on you with each attempt to break free.
— Geez, why do heroes always want to resort to violence? — The annoyance was evident in the voice of the witch boy.
— What do you want?! — Your voice echoed throughout the place, you knew that Klarion was nothing but trouble and chaos.
— I'm here to help you.
— Help me with what? — You simply gave him an annoyed look.
— Well, it turns out that your "powers" are nothing more than magic. — A gasp left your lips as you heard his words, you knew Klarion wasn't trustworthy, but the fact that your skills were the result of magic made sense, it would explain why the league had not been able to explain their origin, it would also explain why they responded differently depending on your emotions, and why you could mold them so easily.
— But how? I don't have any kind of magical knowledge. — Feeling your aura gradually calming down, Klarion finally decided to release you from his immobilizing spell getting even closer to you.
— Yes, I could see that. —The witch boy smirked, your unknowledge about magic was more than obvious. Without you noticing Klarion further shortened the distance between you, he extended one of his hands towards you making you step back in defense. — I told you I'm not here to fight. — Again Klarion tried to get closer to you, this time holding your shoulder so you wouldn't back away while his other hand pulled down the neck of your shirt exposing the bare skin of your shoulder, the shoulder that he had hit during your first encounter, the bruise didn't look too bad, but you could still see redness on your skin.
— Hey! — You squealed with embarrassment, you tried to walk away but Klarion's grip was strong.
His hand rested on your skin, and a small whimper of pain left your lips, his touch was soft but his fingers were cold, a shiver ran through your body, you felt your heart beat faster for being so close to him but he didn't seem to mind, you took that little moment to admire every one of his facial features, his nose, his eyes, his lips. You were startled to feel his hand leave your skin after a couple of seconds, you turned your gaze away trying not to let him notice how focused you were on his face, when you saw your shoulder again you realized that the bruise was completely gone.
Klarion walked away from you again turning his back on you, you doubted whether or not you should thank him, but before you did he continued speaking.
— You know, I once heard someone say that magic blooms only in rare souls, and while it's true that most witches and wizards learn and study magic for years, there are some cases where magic just appears, especially in people with magical ancestors, most likely that is your case. And your skills may be mediocre now, but with my help… — You interrupted Klarion with a sarcastic laugh getting him to look at you with a raised eyebrow.
— What makes you think I will accept help from someone like you? — Your question was spat out with nothing but contempt, and he was right, his help would probably help you improve greatly, but that didn't mean you would forget who he was.
Despite your words, the witch boy's smile didn't fade, instead, it only seemed to get bigger, his gaze was fixed on you, it was like he could see your soul, his persistent gaze on you made you feel nervous and his smile gave you a strange feeling. — Because it seems that I’m your only choice. The League hasn't done anything for you in years, and I don't think they will now.
Your eyes narrowed with distrust at Klarion. — What do you know about what The League has done for me?
— Because I used the available resources of The Light to do an extensive research about you. — The witch boy snapped his fingers and a folder appeared in his hand, walked over to you, and extended it for you to grab it.
And you did, the folder contained all the information that the Justice League had collected about you over the years, starting from your basic information to the results of every one of the tests, you looked again at Klarion who seemed to want to tell you something, but as soon as his lips opened he was interrupted by a loud crash coming from the entrance of the theater.
— Oh, it looks like we have guests. I would love to put them in their place, but as I said, I'm not here to fight, so I'd better go, if you decide to accept my help we can meet here. — Just when Klarion conjured a portal to escape the team entered the place, but it was too late, the witch boy was gone, the looks of the whole team quickly focused on you, none of them seemed happy.
— How did you find me? — You asked something intimidated by the way everyone looked at you.
— We thought you had taken too long to return to Mount Justice, so we followed the tracker on your collar, we thought you might be in danger, but you seemed to be in good company. — Robin was the one who answered your question, and you certainly saw that answer coming, what you didn't see coming was his final insinuation
— Klarion intercepted me in the middle of the way, he brought me here against my will.
The team shared unconvinced looks at your answer, but they knew that it would be useless to continue arguing.
— What did he told you? — Aqualad asked, his gaze seemed stern, he was forgetting that you had been kidnapped by the witch boy.
— Nothing... — The eyes of the whole team reflected distrust.
— Stay clear of him, he won't bring you any good. — You expected Aqualad to say something else, but he turned around and left along with the rest of the team.
[•••]
It had been a couple of days since the incident with Klarion, and although you didn't know it, the witch boy had spent day and night waiting for you, as difficult as it was for Klarion to stay in one place he had managed to stay in the theater at all times waiting for you to finally show up imploring his help.
On the other side, things with the team had become even more uncomfortable after that day, everyone believed that you had met with Klarion by mutual agreement, and that only gave them more reasons to distrust you and push you aside, you didn't even feel sad about it anymore, now you only felt anger for his indifference. At first, you would thoughtlessly reject Klarion's offer, but at this point, you were desperate.
You stood in front of the old abandoned theater thinking if you were making the right decision, but you were already there, you entered the place a little unsure, it was dark and silent, you looked around looking for the witch boy, but there was no sign of him in the place.
— I knew you would come. — Klarion's voice surprised you making you turn around to see him standing there, in the dark, waiting for you, with Teekl in his arms and a proud smile on his lips. — By the way, this is Teekl, I don't think I've introduced you before. — The cat in his arms meowed in response to the words of his owner, you moved your hand slightly greeting the little cat.
— Then... Where do we start? — You asked a little uncomfortable about being alone with the witch boy.
— Don't worry I have a couple of spells for beginners that might help you. But first... — Klarion snapped his fingers, and suddenly you felt like a discomfort disappearing from your neck.
— Isn't it better this way, dear? — Klarion asked with amusement. If you hadn't been so focused on your neck you probably would have gone crazy hearing him call you "dear".
You touched the skin on your neck that was previously covered by the collar, a sickly purple color could be seen on your neck, it hurt from all the pressure built up there.
— That must hurt. — Without warning one of Klarion's hands moved to the large bruise on your neck, you flinched in pain at his hand contact, although his touch was not intended to cause you pain, his cold hands gently traced the skin of your neck, examining the mark left by the collar, suddenly the pain decreased. — That should ease the pain.
— Thank you... — Your words were just a whisper, but you made sure he heard them.
— Now, let's get started… — A naughty little smile formed on Klarion's lips.
[•••]
Having Klarion as a teacher wasn't as bad as you thought, although he was still obstinate, stubborn, and impatient, he really seemed to have the intention of teaching you. And if you were honest, in just a few days he had managed to help you understand your skills more than the League had done in years.
— No, no, no! You're doing it wrong! — Klarion's complaints echoed throughout the place.
It was supposed to be just a simple levitation spell, but you were having a harder time than you thought, which made Klarion impatient. The witch boy approached positioning himself behind you, his chest against your back, in a slightly violent way he held your hands between his and placed them in the right way for the spell, your heart started to race when you felt the contact of his cold hands. Once he molded your hands in the right way his hands moved up to your forearms.
— Try it again. — Klarion's voice was authoritative, you thought that given his playful personality, he wouldn't be serious about teaching you magic, but he was determined to teach you. Following Klarion's orders you recited the spell out loud again focusing your attention on the rose in front of you, a few seconds of silence went by, you thought you had failed but suddenly the rose left the surface where it was and began to levitate.
You couldn't help but smile excitedly at seeing that you had managed to conjure up the spell correctly, you turned to look at Klarion with eyes full of excitement, the black-haired boy was still behind you, although he tried to hide it you could notice a slight smile on his lips, that smile, for many might seem creepy, but not for you, you felt how the heat enveloped your body, the same heat you felt the first time he smiled at you, but now the feeling was pleasing.
— Not bad. — Klarion distanced himself from you, stretching out his hand to hold the rose, looked at it for a few seconds, and then turned his eyes to you. — Still mediocre but not bad at all. — You rolled your eyes at the "compliment" of the witch boy, but your smile didn't leave your face. Klarion approached you again, his eyes didn't leave yours, his hand reached out holding the rose towards you, with some hesitation you took it and brought it to your nose breathing its scent, the scent of the rose was similar to Klarion's, intoxicating and pleasant. — That's all for today, dear. — Before you could say goodbye properly Klarion snapped his fingers conjuring a portal and leaving you all alone, with your heart beating fast as soon as you heard him call you "dear".
[•••]
Your meetings with Klarion became more and more often, and your magical abilities improved considerably since then, you knew he was evil, but even so, there was something that drew you near to him, he was still a jerk from time to time, taking every opportunity to mock you and annoy you, and yet he had personally taken it upon himself to develop your potential, and thanks to that you were gaining more and more control and knowledge about magic, all this without the team's knowledge, of course.
— You know darling… — Klarion's voice came from beside you, both of you were sitting between the seats of the theater, even though they were in a bad state, Klarion had made them look as good as new thanks to his magic. — I think you should join The Light. — It wasn't the first time Klarion suggested you to be part of The Light, for a moment it made you think that maybe that was his reason behind helping you with the magic, to recruit you for The Light, but knowing Klarion's impatient personality he probably would have said it from the beginning. A sigh left your lips, you didn't want to have this conversation again, especially since he was managing to convince you.
You turned your attention to the book of sorcery in your hands that the wizard boy had offered you. Usually, the classes with Klarion were mostly practice, but today Klarion had given you a chance to rest, replacing practice with theory.
— Hey, I'm talking to you! — In an attempt to attract your attention Klarion held your cheeks between his thumb and index finger, having control of your face he forced you to look at him, his grip was firm but not painful, it was like he was making an effort to avoid hurting you, even so, you could feel his nails lightly digging into your skin, the coldness of his hands that used to startle you before was now comforting to you.
The small distance between you was scary, even though Klarion seemed to have something to say only a few seconds ago now he was speechless. His grip weakened and instead his hand moved all the way to your cheek, you could feel his nose brushing against yours, just a gentle push was enough for your lips to finally touch, but neither of you seemed determined to move, even Klarion who was usually impulsive was hesitating.
Klarion had never kissed before, he knew it was a common act of love between earth couples, he knew it was something intimate and special for many humans, but he could never understand it, he wasn't interested in doing it either, for him this was one of the things he considered irrelevant, something he would never experience on his own, but now, he wanted to experience thousands of things with you, things that had never interested him. Suddenly all those "stupid" things that couples did began to make sense, but only because he had met you.
— Vandal wants you there… — Your shoulders fell into disappointment as you heard Klarion take up the topic of The Light. — And so do I. — A small glimmer of hope flared in your eyes.
— You want me there? — Your voice was just a whisper of disbelief, but you knew Klarion could hear you perfectly.
— I want you there, with me. — Klarion's doubts were cleared, abruptly shortening the distance between you pressing his lips on yours, the kiss was slow and clumsy, something to be expected between two young people so inexperienced, but for you it was perfect, it was magical. Your lips fitted perfectly with his, unlike his hands, his lips were considerably warmer, and had a taste that was unfamiliar to you but not unpleasant.
You both separated to catch your breath, you approached Klarion and hid your face in his neck resting your hands on his chest, you felt his hands run down your sides until they stopped at your waist, you closed your eyes enjoying the fragrance of the witch boy.
For a moment you thought seriously about his proposal, you knew that Klarion was pure chaos, even If you could build a wall around him, and you could control the things that he does, you could never kill the will within him. But deep down you always knew that you weren't so different from him, when you met him you realized that there was evil in you. You didn't want to accept it, after all, your whole life you had struggled to not be seen as a villain, although it seemed that was the only way you could be seen.
Now, you know where evil grew, evil grows in the dark, where the sun never shines, evil grows in cracks and holes, and lives in people's minds. Evil grew, it's part of you. And now it seems to be that every time you look at him, evil grows in you.
But now another question disturbed you. Should you follow Klarion and join The Light to be seen as an equal or stay in the team and be seen as a threat?
In the Light you would be seen as an equal, of that you were sure, and you didn't doubt that being there would provide you knowledge that you couldn't get in other ways. On the other hand, the team's perception of you wouldn't change, but if you left them to go with The Light you would not only become what they perceived you to be, but you would also be giving up your ideals. But were those ideals really worth fighting for? The same ideals that had caused you so much harm, wouldn't it be better to let it go and move on?
You couldn't help but think that your whole inner struggle was due in large part to Klarion, it used to amuse you to hear people say that love could change you, now you could say it was true, but would you let love change you?
A sigh left your lips, you broke away from Klarion's neck to look into his eyes, your hand moved to his cheek feeling the coldness of his skin on your fingertips. The witch boy looked at you hopefully, he knew you had something to say.
And right then and there, you made the hardest decision of your life.

— The mission is simple, you will have the opportunity to infiltrate into one of the enemy's meetings and obtain information that could be valuable to the team. — Batman continued with his explanation, this time using holographic images to show the place where the meeting would take place. — The place is always the same, although the pattern of each meeting was confusing, Aqualad and I managed to deduce that the next meeting will be in four days.
— How do we get in? — Conner asked, taking a step forward and capturing everyone's attention.
Batman turned his gaze to Kaldur, giving him a nod to continue.
— At each of the meetings they hire a staff of about 100 people, including cooks, bartenders, and waiters. — This time the image on the screen changed, showing what appeared to be the waiters Kaldur was referring to, all wearing the same clothing, but what caught your attention was that they all seemed to hide their faces behind masks.
— So we're going in as waiters?— Conner didn't seem very convinced of the plan.
— No, not all of us will get in, each staff member has a personalized ID to avoid intruders, and despite our efforts, we could only manage to falsify two of the IDs. — Everyone seemed a bit surprised by Kaldur's words, feeling anxious to know who would go in.
— For some reason that we unknown, they only accept men on staff, which automatically disqualifies Artemis, and even though M'gann can change her physical appearance we decided to leave her out since she will be the one who will be in charge of the mental link that will allow you to keep up with the infiltrators. — Artemis and M'gann seemed to agree to Batman's words, so he continued. — Aqualad and Superboy are the best choices for infiltrators considering their abilities and strength, yet both are easily recognizable to the enemy, which leaves them out. — Kaldur seemed to agree with that, but Superboy didn't. — That leaves the three of you. — Everyone's attention quickly turned to Robin, Kid Flash, and you. — Kid Flash, your skill and ability cannot be denied. — A smug smile appeared on Wally's lips as he heard Batman. — But I don't think you're the right one for this mission considering how hard it's for you to keep a low profile. — Wally's smile disappeared as quickly as it arrived. — Robin and (S/H/N) will be the infiltrators. — You just nodded accepting your place in the mission, you could feel how Conner tensed next to you, with a slight movement you took his hand in yours hoping that no one would notice, due to the unexpected contact you managed to attract the attention of the black-haired boy, you gave him a small and quick smile that seemed to calm him momentarily.
— As I mentioned before, this is only a recognition mission to collect information, so you are strictly forbidden to start any kind of fight, your only job is to attend the guests and be attentive to your environment collecting any information that may be beneficial to the team. All the waiters are scanned before having access to the facilities where the mission will take place, for which reason, you will not have any type of equipment.
— You mean you would send them to a place they don't know completely helpless? — Conner seemed alarmed at the fact that Batman would send you into enemy territory disarmed.
— Conner… — You whispered to him a little embarrassed by his outburst, but he didn't seem to notice that you were calling him.
— If they follow all the instructions given to them, they will not be discovered, therefore, there will be no need to fight or be armed. —
— And what are we going to do? Sit around waiting for them to be killed? — Conner's annoyed tone persisted in his voice which put the rest of the team on alert, everyone knew that an angry Conner was synonymous with trouble.
— No. — Batman answered Conner's question, the screen that showed the images changed again, this time showing a map of the place of the meeting and another building. — You will be here, it's an old abandoned building, if things get out of control, you will have the opportunity to interfere.
Conner's fists clenched in dissatisfaction at the answer to his question, but Batman quickly ended the meeting since, according to him, there was nothing more to discuss.
[•••]
— You know they can't force you to go, right?
A small sigh escaped your lips as you finished buttoning the black shirt you were supposed to wear as part of the waiter's uniform to infiltrate. You had gone to your room to get ready, but of course, your boyfriend was also there trying to change your mind.
— I know Conner.
— So why don't you refuse? — You could hear the uneasiness in his voice, you turned around finding yourself face to face with your boyfriend, his features showed nothing but concern, you slowly moved one of your hands to hold his cheek, he responded by melting into your touch, his hands moved to your waist shortening any distance between you.
From the moment the two of you started dating Conner had assumed a much more protective attitude towards you, you believed it was mainly because you didn't have superpowers, you always appreciated his concern, but you wanted him to know that you could stand on your own, that you were just as strong as everyone else on the team. Your lips were only inches away from touching, you leaned in a little closer, and finally, your lips touched. It was a sweet and slow kiss, just what both of you needed.
After a couple of seconds, you pulled away from his warm lips to catch your breath. — Everything will be all right, Conner, I promise... — You wanted Conner to trust your abilities, you wanted him to know that you were fine on your own.
— What if it is not? — He asked still with negativity.
— Then... You'll save me, you always do... — You said not quite happy with your words, after all, you didn't want to be saved.
[•••]
You and Robin had arrived at the place where the meeting would take place, all the waiters were in a line waiting to be scanned, Dick had entered first than you.
You were the next to be scanned, the scanner didn't detect anything unusual about you and your fake ID wasn't a problem either.
— Go ahead. — One of the soldiers said, you just nodded and walked to where all the other waiters were going.
You slightly adjusted the mask that covered your face, remembering something that Kaldur had told you before leaving... "Whatever happens, do not take off your masks, or they will kill you", it seemed that the host of the meeting took the privacy of his workers very seriously, for that reason, it was totally forbidden for you to take off your mask.
You continued walking until you reached a huge hall where all the guests and the rest of the waiters were, you quickly identified Dick, and without wanting to waste any more time you started to serve all the guests who needed it, either serving drinks, bringing them food, etc... The speed and skill with which you moved between the tables didn't go unnoticed by the soldiers who looked at you with curiosity. And you hadn't even noticed that until one of them approached you ordering you to follow him, you gave a quick glance to Dick who was already looking at you with some fear, you turned again and followed the soldier who led you out of the main hall through the huge hallways of the place until you reached a particular hallway that seemed to be quite isolated from the others. Your heart was pounding, you were afraid of being discovered and risking the mission, but you were not the only one who felt that way, Conner was more than ready to jump in to defend you, but surprisingly the team managed to hold him back until they knew exactly what was going on.
You were so focused on your thoughts that you didn't notice that the soldier had stopped in front of what appeared to be a door at the end of the hallway, you stopped abruptly almost bumping into his back, but you recomposed yourself when you saw that he turned to you holding his gun tightly.
— Behind that door are the VIP guests, they are hard to please and more important than all the people you served before, they seem to have quite a bit of experience and agility as a waiter, so you will be in charge of serving them, understood?
— Yes, sir. — You answered without hesitating a single second.
The doors in front of you opened revealing a room so much smaller than the large hall from before, the decorations were quite exotic, but without a doubt what stood out the most about the place were the people that were there, their faces were hidden behind extravagant animal masks colored in vibrant gold.
You walked confidently into the room ready to fulfill the whims of the "V.I.P. Guests."
[•••]
About forty minutes passed in the room and nothing interesting had happened, none of the V.I.PS guests seemed to need anything, except for the man with the mask of what seemed to be some feline, probably a tiger, who had called you more than once to refill his glass with Whisky.
— Hey!— You quickly turned your head towards the calling voice, it was the man with the tiger mask waving his glass in the air making it clear that he wanted you to refill it again.
You slowly approached him with the bottle of Whisky in your hands and filled his glass again, you were about to go back to your place but he grabbed your arm firmly preventing you from moving.
— Stay here, I don't want to have to keep calling you. — You swallowed thinking of a quick answer.
— I'm sorry sir, but I must serve the other guests. — You said neutrally.
— Hey! Do you guys have a problem with the boy staying with me? — Quickly the other guests turned to you, but none of them seemed to mind at all, to which they all denied.
You had no choice but to take a seat next to the man. About 10 minutes passed when you could feel how his gaze was totally focused on you, but you still remained calm in your place. It was then when one of his hands moved towards your thigh that you went on alert, you slyly turned your face down just to see how his hand moved down your leg, a huge feeling of disgust came over you when you felt his touch on you but there were two armed guards in the room, so even if you tried to defend yourself, the probability of escaping unharmed from the guards was quite low, you had to remain stoic. And certainly, you weren't the only one who felt disgusted in those moments, your teammates also witnessed that touch through the telepathic link, they all felt extremely uncomfortable and impotent, but they tried to remain calm, or at least almost all of them tried, Superboy's fists were clenched in anger, even his teammates could feel the anger radiating from him, but Batman's orders had been clear, they could not interfere unless it was totally necessary or unless you or Dick asked for it.
As the seconds passed your discomfort became greater and greater, but feeling his grip move away from your leg made you feel relief, relief that was gone as quickly as it came.
— You have such beautiful eyes. — You turned your head slightly towards him, your expression behind the mask was one of pure disgust, he didn't even give you time to respond when he gave his next command. — Take off the mask. — You went blank for a few moments before giving him your answer.
— But they will kill me if I take off my mask. — By this point, you were beginning to feel anxious.
— And I'll kill you if you don't. — He extended his hand towards your face determined to get rid of your mask, your heart stopped in your chest, the panic was taking over you, but you were not the only one, the team that was witnessing everything that was happening were as nervous as you, they were ready for your next move to determine if they should interfere or not. Before his hand could reach your mask you held it lightly, not knowing what to do when an idea crossed your mind.
— Please, take me to a place where we can be alone… — The tone of your voice was soft and fearful. You caught a glimpse of lust in the man's eyes causing you to feel even more disgusted and vulnerable, but once he and you were alone, he would be the vulnerable one.
The man quickly stood up from his seat still holding your hand, you copied his movements and stood up to follow him leaving the room with the V.I.P. guests behind.
Meanwhile, the rest of the team was stunned by your response, you seemed to have the situation under control, but still, they could not help but feel uneasy imagining the things that man was thinking of doing to you, and undoubtedly the most affected was Conner.
— Well, what are we waiting for to interfere?! — Superboy demanded to the rest of the team.
All eyes turned to Aqualad in wait for an order, and he quickly communicated with you through the psychic link.
— We are ready to interfere (Y/N), we will do it on your command. — You heard Kaldur's calm voice in your head, the fact that the team was already ready to act made you feel a little safer.
You were about to answer Kaldur telepathically, but you were interrupted by the sound of a door opening, you had forgotten the situation you were in.
The man led you into a sophisticated bedroom, his hand finally released yours.
— Get on your knees… — Your mouth opened in surprise due to the sudden order, but you obeyed.
He was standing over you, observing your figure, his hand moved to the bottom of your mask gently removing it.
— Wow, this isn't the kind of face you hide under a mask. — His rough hands held your chin forcing you to look at him.
At this point Conner was burning with anger, the image of another man touching your skin was enough to make him lose his mind.
— Now... Take off your clothes….
— That's it. Fuck the mission! — Without waiting for a second longer Conner launched himself from the building where he was, breaking through the roof of the meeting place, landing right in the hall where all the guests were.
Dick's eyes widened, after all, if the team had interfered it was because something bad had happened.
— Superboy! — Kaldur tried to get Conner's attention as the rest of the team arrived on the scene.
The shots of the guards in the place were immediate, the bullets touched his body, but Conner couldn't care less, instead, he began to run following the direction he had seen through the telepathic link.
You heard the gunshots in the distance, the man also seemed to hear them lowering his guard, you were about to get up and attack, but before you could do so the door to the room came down in a thunderous crash revealing your boyfriend looking red with anger.
— Conner! — You surprised shouted, but the boy totally ignored you and approached the man who had touched you.
Conner's punches hit one after another in that man who collapsed unconscious in less than a second, but Conner seemed to want more, he knelt to continue hitting him, but you interposed yourself taking his arm strongly finally attracting his attention since he came to the room.
His face softened a little as he saw the fear on your face, you weren't afraid of him, you weren't afraid for that man's life either, you were afraid because you didn't want Conner to cross that line of no return by murdering someone.
You were about to say something, but you didn't have the chance because Conner took you in his arms leaving the place and the team behind. In other circumstances, you would have reproached him for his actions, but all you wanted was to be in his arms.
[•••]
The beautiful sound of the waves crashing against each other was enough to clear your mind and make you forget the horrible experience you had had not more than 20 minutes ago. For some reason, Conner had decided to bring you to the beach, you thought he wanted to talk with you about what had happened, but he hadn't spoken to you since you arrived, he had simply been focused on the waves.
Slowly and slightly unsure of what to say you positioned yourself next to him clearing your throat.
— I think we should go back with the rest of the team Conner, I don't think Batman will be happy about how the mission turned out...
— Is that all you care about?! For God's sake (Y/N)! That man was totally going to... But all that matters is the mission and what Batman will think of it! — Your eyes opened in surprise at Conner's words, he seemed to be more affected than you were. — I mean, why didn't you let us interfere?! You didn't even know if that man had a gun or what he'd do to you! — Conner's eyes showed pure anguish, and you could totally understand it, after all, you would feel the same way if you were in his place.
— Conner… — You moved closer to him and held his face in your hands, you looked into his beautiful blue eyes that at first seemed as cold as ice, but now were as warm as the ocean. — I didn't let you interfere because I wanted you to trust me and my abilities, I wanted to prove to myself that I didn't need to be saved, but I guess I failed... — Your tone of voice decreased slowly with each word. — You know Conner? Sometimes I feel like it's hard for me to stay on the sidelines with the team, you all have abilities that make you unique and powerful... In every battle, I try to push myself to my limit to feel that I can fight as hard as you, to prove that I'm at the same level as the team, but there are days when it's so hard... — Conner's eyes no longer reflected anguish, only sadness.
— Why didn't you tell me anything? — Your hands left his cheeks only to rest on his shoulders, you felt his arms wrap around your waist drawing you even closer to him.
— Because...It's embarrassing to admit out loud that I feel helpless being on the team.
— But you're not! Look, if you weren't enough for the team you wouldn't even be on it. I mean, Batman himself was the one who recommended you for the team. Many other heroes could have been here, but they chose you because you have what it takes to be on the team and much more than that. — You couldn't help but smile sweetly at your boyfriend, you knew Conner would never lie to you, and even if he did you would notice, and his words didn't seem to be a lie.
— Thanks Conner… — It would take time for you to get over your thoughts about not being enough for the team, but you knew that Conner would be with you every step of the way reminding you how indispensable you were.
One of Conner's hands left your waist to rest on your cheek, a small shiver ran through your body as you felt the coldness of his palm against your skin. His face approached yours and sweetly joined his lips with yours, unlike his hands, his lips were much warmer and had a taste that made you get completely lost in them. Sadly, you had to break the kiss to catch your breath.
— Sorry, for the mission, I shouldn't have interfered. — Now that things had calmed down Conner seemed genuinely embarrassed by his actions.
— It's okay. But I don't think I'm the one you should be apologizing to…
[•••]
— I know that my actions put you all in danger and ruined the mission, that's why I apologize — Conner quickly turned his gaze to you, with a simple nod you encouraged him to continue with his apology to the team. — To all of you…
The rest of the team remained in their places listening to Conner's words, despite how badly the mission had gone, none of them seemed really upset, except for Batman.
— Even so, your actions could have turned out worse, so you will be left out of the next mission as a punishment. — A gasp escaped from the lips of the entire team when they heard Batman, even though they knew it was fair they feared that Superboy wouldn't take it in the best way.
But Conner decided to remain calm and simply nod accepting his punishment.
— That's it, you're free to go. — At Batman's words, they left the place to go to their respective rooms one by one.
You and Conner walked to your rooms in silence with your hands clasped.
— It doesn't bother you to be left out of the next mission? — You asked with some concern to Conner.
— No, the team will be fine— His face turned to you with a sweet smile. — Especially because you're in it. — You couldn't help but smile hugely and then throw yourself at Conner capturing his lips in a passionate and affectionate kiss that he gladly accepted.
You hated being rescued, but you knew that your Superboy would be there if you ever needed to be rescued.

You were standing with the rest of the team watching the transmission sent by Batman from space, your eyes were fixed on the two lanterns that had approached the alien ship and ordered it to retreat. Not even two seconds passed before both lanterns were disintegrated by one of the ship’s weapons; “Shit…”, you thought when you saw how Hal Jordan, your mentor was disintegrated without any effort even when the shield of his ring was active, however, the “loss” did not affect you at all, not to mention that he was not the only one to perish, the other members who were there suffered the same fate in a matter of seconds, and the worst was yet to come.
Chaos broke out a few minutes after the ship landed, thousands of innocent civilians had been disintegrated along with the entire Justice League, you were all that was left.
— We are Earth’s heroes now. — You heard Kaldur say, your eyes still fixed on the screens in front of you showing all the chaos around the world.
— So, what are we waiting for, a theme song? — An imperceptible bitter chuckle escaped your lips at Superboy’s comment.
— A strategy. — This time, your attention was fully focused on Aqualad. — Earth’s weapons are ineffective. And it has been made tragically clear a direct attack will not succeed.
— Checking satellite imagery. Here’s where the aliens are now. — The attention of the entire team moved to the map that was displayed in front of you.
— This one get lost? — Superboy asked, pointing to a specific location.
— Oh, that’s Superman’s fortress of solitude — You said as you saw the location previously pointed out by the black-haired boy.
— Superman has a Fortress of solitude? — Superboy seemed genuinely troubled by that revelation, yet no one beyond M'gann seemed to pay any attention to him.
— Yeah, it’s pretty cool, I was there with Green Lantern and Superman last week, you really should go some time. — It was obvious that your words were simply a bad joke directed at Superboy, and it seemed to have an effect as you saw a small glint of misgiving in his eyes. A sly smile appeared on your lips, but it quickly faded as you were interrupted by M'gann.
— This isn’t a moment for your stupid jokes. — You knew perfectly well that she wasn’t upset because of the circumstances in which you were joking, but because your teasing was directed towards Superboy, you simply rolled your eyes in annoyance and let out a small “Whatever…”.
It was no secret to anyone that you and M'gann were far from being friends, from the first moment you worked together you knew it would be difficult for the two of you to get along, and it wasn’t hard to see why, M'gann was cheerful, exceptionally sweet and even childish at times and had this desire to be accepted by the people on earth; you, you were the opposite, being sweet and childish definitely didn’t go with you.
The conflicts between your points of view were constant, it was simply impossible for you two to agree on anything, but there was no denying that you had done your best to avoid this from being a problem in the missions.
— We will target this lone ship. — Aqualad said, completely ignoring you and Miss Martian.
The whole team seemed to be in agreement with the plan, despite the low probability of being victorious all left Mount Justice prepared for the worst, or at least that’s what you thought.
[•••]
No more than an hour later everyone had arrived at the destination. As you stepped off the ship you felt the cold wind whipping against the exposed skin of your face, everyone took up their respective positions ready to subdue the alien ship. Miss Martian was the first to attack, disabling the ship's communications and propulsion, followed by Artemis who made sure to keep inside whatever was inside the ship, Kaldur jumped from the water causing the ship to point directly at him.
— Got it. — You said deflecting the ship's weapon using your ring, Superboy didn't miss the opportunity and held the weapon keeping it under control, yet you kept your grip to prevent it from doing anything.
— Identifying the weapon’s structural stress points and links to the ship. — You watched as Robin performed a quick scan giving M'gann concise instructions on where to strike.
Finally, you released your grip on the machine letting Superboy take care of pulling it out of its place, however, something seemed to go wrong and before anyone could do anything Wolf was disintegrated in an attempt to save Conner, who ignored this completely focusing on the mission.
— Rerouting systems to integrate weapon into ship’s bio-matrix. We need to de-camouflage for a few minutes. — Even though the job was almost finished, you kept your eyes open having a bad feeling.
— We may not have a few minutes. — You saw how two more ships were approaching you.
Kaldur ordered Miss Martian to open fire, however, she couldn't do so while the ship was integrating the weapon.
— Got you covered! Get inside! I’m almost there. — Artemis shot down one of the ships while you from a distance shot down the other using one of the projections of your ring, despite the impact one of the ships was still active and in a few seconds Artemis had been disintegrated.
— Artemis! — You heard M'gann's scream, your eyes remained fixed on the place where Artemis had been just a few seconds ago. And unlike when you saw Hal disintegrate, this time you felt pain, fear, and anguish. You were in shock for a few seconds until Kaldur's order reached your ears and made you react.
A few seconds passed in silence, no one moved from their place except for Kaldur who returned to the ship repeating the instruction he had given before, this time, no one wanted to make him repeat the same thing for the third time, one by one they went up the ship, Miss Martian and you stayed until the end waiting for the others to board, she was in front of you, you could hear the sobs she was trying to hide; when it was time to board M'gann seemed to hesitate as if she didn't want to go up. You didn't know what you were thinking when you did it, you didn't even think you were thinking, but one of your hands gently rested on her lower back giving her a little friendly push and a caring look.
— Come on, we have to keep going… — The words came out of your mouth as a soft whisper. M'gann quickly wiped away her tears and climbed into the ship without looking at you, taking her seat as the pilot, you did the same but this time you made your way to the only empty seat left.
[•••]
The way back was silent, everyone was immersed in their own world, but at a certain point of the trip you could hear again M'gann’s sobs, you turned your head slyly only to see the redhead totally devastated, despite your stoic expression your heart sank a little when you saw her like that.
— “M’gann?” — You called her telepathically, though you didn’t expect her to answer.
— “What do you want…?” — Maybe it wasn’t the nicest answer in the world, but you were satisfied with the fact that she replied.
— “Are… You okay?” — For a second you regretted it, thinking to yourself that it was a stupid question.
— “Of course not! I swear if this is another one of your stupid jokes I’m going to….” — Even in your head you could hear the anger in her voice, which surprised you, you hadn’t even thought of a response when you interrupted her.
— “It’s not! Look, I… I just wanted to see how you were doing, I didn’t… Never mind… “—For a moment you felt your cheeks burn, an inaudible sigh escaped your lips. Your mind remained silent for a couple of seconds, you assumed that your conversation with M'gann was over, but it wasn’t…
— “I’m sorry, I just can’t believe Artemis is gone…” — Hearing her voice again in your head took you by surprise, but you didn’t hesitate to answer.
— “Me neither. Everything happened so fast.” — You admitted again remembering the exact moment when Artemis was disintegrated in front of your eyes.
Your mind went silent again for another couple of seconds, but her voice echoed in your head again.
— “I’m afraid. “ — The tone of her voice suggested that she was close to tears again. You stood silently not knowing exactly what to say, but decided to tell the truth...
— “Me too…” — It was the first time in a long time that you admitted you were scared. — “But we have to keep going, if there is a small chance of stopping what happened to Artemis from happening to someone else then we have to try, thousands of people are depending on us. We have to do it for them, for Artemis, and….” — You paused for a moment remembering the image of Hal and the rest of the league being disintegrated. — “For all those who were lost.” — For some reason, the image of Hal disintegrating felt more painful now than when all this started, maybe it was because now you realized that he was really dead.
— “Thank you…”— M'gann’s voice sounded calmer than at the beginning of your telepathic conversation. You turned your head slightly to look at her, only to realize that she was already looking at you, a small sad smile formed on her lips to which you responded with a smile, then turned again and disappeared into your thoughts.
That was the first decent conversation you ever had with her.
[•••]
Arriving at the hall of justice you and Conner were deployed in the air to take out the ships attacking the soldiers.
The rest of the team quickly joined you on the ground, Aqualad started a conversation with who seemed to be the colonel of the platoon, you didn’t really pay attention to his words, you were too busy in your thoughts, but a small touch on your hand was enough to startle you, you turned your gaze to your hand only to see that it was M'gann who lightly held your fingers between hers; her grip was not strong, you could pull it away if you wanted to, and you would have but…. You didn’t want to… You looked up trying to meet her eyes but her face was lowered as if she didn’t want you to look at her, no one on the team seemed to notice the contact between you, which somehow relieved you.
Finally, after a few seconds, you entered the hall of justice, you guided M'gann through the rubble still with your hands gently clasped, you looked at the statues of each of the members of the league, finally stopping at the statue of Green Lantern, a huge feeling of guilt and sadness came over you, despite all that Hal had done for you, you never bothered to thank him.
You were so focused on the statue of your deceased mentor that you didn’t notice that M'gann had broken her grip to walk towards his uncle’s statue.
— Uncle J’onn! — M'gann’s cheerful voice brought you out of your little trance, you approached the rest of the team and saw Martian Manhunter being helped by the redhead to incorporate again.
— But we saw you get disintegrated. You and Superman. And Everyone.
— Yes, I remember. But… I cannot remember how I survived. Or how I arrived here. — The concern for her uncle was evident in M'gann’s eyes, and though you would never admit it, deep down you were happy that at least she had her uncle.
— Maybe you were density shifting and the beam passed right through you. — Although it didn’t sound like a bad theory, there was something that didn’t quite convince you, but you decided to remain silent.
— My mind is clouded. I feel certain I had something important to tell you. — You opened your lips and were about to say something, but Wally’s voice in your head stopped you from doing so.
— “Hello Wally! Come on!” — Wally seemed to have something to say, so you followed him and Robin back to the ship, Robin quickly scanned the ship proving Wally’s hypothesis, the beam used Z energy, which opened up the possibility that it was not a disintegrator beam but a teleporter beam.
— That must have been what you wanted to tell us! — M'gann said to her uncle who still seemed out of his mind.
Before anyone could do or say anything else the sound of approaching ships alerted everyone, without a second of time you all took cover behind a military vehicle, there were too many ships there would be no way to take them all down and you weren’t the only one who thought that way.
— Miss Martian, camo the bioship. — Before M'gann could comply with the order one of the beams imparted with the ship, your eyes widened in surprise knowing that given the Martian’s connection to the ship the impact would most likely hit her as well.
— M'gann...— You whispered to yourself floating quickly to the inside of the hall of justice, and you were right the redhead was lying on the floor due to the impact; you rushed over to her and took her sweetly in your arms, you could feel Conner’s gaze burning the back of your neck but that didn’t matter to you now. You helped her to stand up and both of you hurried to follow the team towards the zeta tubes as your way of escape.
— I can only authorize one at a time. — “Great,” you thought to yourself.
— Send the soldiers first. — Aqualad ordered.
— Belay that! You six are assets we cannot afford to lose. — All eyes turned to Kaldur for instructions, a nod was more than enough for everyone to prepare to get out of there.
— Override. Martian Manhunter 07. — Your eyes remained focused on the Martian Manhunter, but again a small touch on your hand stole your attention, it was M'gann, she seemed to be scared, you took her hand in yours and gave it a small affectionate squeeze accompanied by an almost imperceptible smile.
— Recognized. Access granted. — Your attention returned to the portal that was now active.
— Come on, I’m right behind you — You said to M'gann, wanting her to get to safety as soon as possible. She approached the portal being the first to cross, and even though you said you were right behind her you let Robin and Kid Flash cross next, however just before Kid Flash managed to cross they were reached by more alien ships, without hesitation Conner ran to the aid of one of the soldiers and Kaldur forced Wally to cross the portal not wanting to waste any more time.
Like your teammates, you were quick to react covering some of the attacks with a shield produced by your ring, but you were interrupted as someone pulled strongly on the back of your suit forcing you to move, when you turned you realized that it was Kaldur who had pulled you intending to make you cross the portal that scanned you quickly giving you access.
— Wait, Kaldur! — Before you could protest you were thrown into the portal leaving your teammates behind. — Agh!! — A growl of anger escaped your lips, you knew Kaldur had done it to save you, but you didn’t want to be saved, you wanted to help.
You were ready to go back through the portal and fight, but M'gann’s arms wrapped around your torso preventing you from moving forward.
— “I’m glad you made it.” — You gave no response to her words, instead you moved one of your hands positioning it over hers. Wally and Dick seemed to notice the sudden closeness between you, but said nothing about it, after all, they had better things to worry about.
The zeta tube activated again revealing one of the soldiers, you gently separated from M'gann to offer your help to the soldier who was injured; a couple of seconds later Conner joined you, but Kaldur didn’t…

The mother ship was only a few meters away from you, the mission was clear, enter, rescue the hostages (If there really were any), destroy as many ships as possible, and leave. While it was a simple mission to understand, it was not simple to execute, but this was probably your last chance. You, along with Superboy would be the distractions that would clear the way for the others, which M'gann didn’t quite agree with, but it’s not like you could refuse anyway.
— First team, deploy. — You watched as M'gann lifted into the air and moved away to reach the ship, yet she gave you a sad look as if she knew something bad was going to happen to you.
— Ready. In position. — Miss Martian’s voice echoed inside everyone’s head indicating that she and J'onn had arrived safely inside the ship. — “Please, be careful.” — You heard her again, but this time the voice was only in your head, you didn’t respond, you simply nodded even though you knew she couldn’t see you.
You and Conner turned to Robin, he simply gave you a nod indicating it was your turn. You took off from the ground approaching the ship making as much noise and commotion as possible. You destroyed as many weapons as you could, but still more kept appearing, luckily your distraction was enough for Robin and Kid Flash to enter safely, which relieved you in a way getting you to lower your guard a little, as a result, one of the ships disintegrated Conner.
— Conner! — Without leaving you time to get yourself together the ships approached you, you dodged as many attacks as possible and attacked as much as you could before you were totally surrounded.
You closed your eyes in defeat letting out a small sigh when one of the ships positioned itself in front of you. — “Forgive me M'gann.” — Was the last thing you thought hoping she would listen, you didn't even know why you were apologizing to her, but you felt you had to. You opened your eyes to meet your fate only to have to close them again due to the blinding yellow light.
But then, there was no more light, there was nothing….
[•••]
Your eyes suddenly opened, your chest was rising and falling frantically, you straightened up as fast as you could causing strong dizziness in you, your trembling hand held your head for a moment, you could feel the icy sweat falling from your forehead. You slowly turned around only to see the rest of the team in a similar condition to you, except for M'gann who was still sleeping. You could see Batman in the room, you were about to speak up to demand answers, but a loud gasp interrupted you, M'gann had woken up, she slowly sat up and your gazes met for a few seconds before you broke eye contact with her.
— You’re all alive! — Her voice was as energetic as usual.
— What happened in there? — Batman asked.
— The exercise, it all went wrong. — Martian Manhunter replied.
— Exercise? What damn exercise? — Despite the shock you were experiencing inside, you couldn’t help but raise your voice in search of answers.
— Try to remember. What you experienced was a training exercise. Manhunter psychically linked the seven of you within an artificial reality. You all knew this going in. What you didn’t know was that it was a training for failure exercise. No matter what the team accomplished the scenario was designed to grow worse. Still, you were aware nothing was real including the deaths of the entire Justice League. — Your stomach churned for a moment as you remembered the image of Hal being disintegrated in front of your eyes.
— That is why you hardly grieved even when Wolf was disintegrated before your eyes. ´’But all that changed when Artemis died. Though consciously, Miss Matian knew it was not real, her subconscious mind could not make that distinction. She forgot it was only an exercise and her subconscious took control making all of you forget, too. — Everyone’s eyes fell on M'gann, for a moment you remembered how unpleasant you found her person and how little you liked her, but for some reason you no longer felt that way towards her, which was strange, after all, you were sure that if the circumstances were different you would be right now blaming her for the trauma you had to live through in that psychic reality, but you knew it wasn’t her fault.
— Uh, I’m, I’m so sorry. — You could hear the sadness and regret in her voice as she looked at each of you.
— This isn’t her fault! — This was one of the few times you agreed with Conner. — Why didn’t you stop the exercise?.
— We tried, but M’gann had a death grip on the scenario. Even Artemis, who should have awakened upon her death was so convinced she had passed she slipped into a coma. I realized I would have to wrest control from Miss Martian’s subconscious from within. But upon entering the reality. I was overwhelmed by your collective emotion. There was too much… Noise, to think clearly, to remember why I was there. The deaths of Aqualad, Superboy, and Green Lantern helped. — A shiver ran through your whole body at the thought of your “death”, but you kept your stoic expression not wanting anyone to notice. — But only when the mothership exploded and Robin and Kid Flash were silenced did my mind clear enough to remember my true purpose… To shock M’gann out of the exercise before your comas became permanent. My apologies. I had no idea a training exercise could be so dangerous… So damaging…
Again everyone turned to Miss Martian who seemed even more shocked by everything, it looked like Conner was about to approach her, but before you could think clearly your body had already moved to place one of your hands on her shoulder, she didn’t move or speak, you opened your lips to try to give her verbal support, but before you could say anything she rushed towards you with her arms around you in search of comfort while tears were streaming down her face, you were in shock for a few seconds as well as the rest of the team, after all, you disliked each other; even the idea of pushing her away from you quickly crossed your mind, but, for some reason, you decided not to do it, and surprisingly, you returned her embrace. Maybe it was the shock of the moment, maybe you felt bad for her, or maybe it was something else, but you wanted her around, which was ironic considering how much you disliked her a few hours ago.
But now, all you wanted to do was give her the comfort she needed.
[•••]
— You know, compared to the rest of the team you seem very calm, which is strange considering everything that happened in the exercise. — Black Canary’s voice seemed calm, but deep down she was worried about you and the rest of the team.
— Well… — You just shrugged your shoulders, you didn’t know what to say, you knew it was best to say how you felt, but even you didn’t know what you felt.
— About Hal… He was the first to die, I imagine it must have been hard for you. — Canary invited you to talk about your mentor, which took you by surprise. Everyone knew that your relationship with Hal was complicated, you both awkwardly cared for each other, but neither of you would ever accept it.
— No… I mean, not at first, when I saw him die I didn’t feel anything, because I knew it couldn’t be real. But when things started to get distorted I realized that he was dead, and I felt a lot of guilt for not feeling anything when I saw him die, I also felt regret for never thanking him for everything he did for me. — Your eyes were stuck on your feet wanting to avoid Canary’s gaze, after all, it was embarrassing to admit that you felt affection for Hal, you could almost say that you saw him as a father. — The first thing I did after dealing with the shock was called him. I know everything was fake and it happened because of M’ gann, but still, I felt I had to talk to him, at least to say “Hi”.
A small smile appeared on Canary’s lips as she saw that you had at least admitted to caring about Hal, of all the times Black Canary had talked to you this was the only time she had managed to get you to open up to her.
— Now speaking of M'gann… From what I heard you both seemed pretty close during the exercise, M'gann actually seemed to find comfort in you and vice versa, which is interesting considering you two don’t get along. — Your eyes quickly raised from the ground to meet Canary’s inquisitive gaze, she seemed interested in what you would respond to her words.
— I don’t think it was that way…. I mean, we were in one of the worst-case scenarios, fighting among ourselves wouldn’t make anything better. — Your cheeks were red, even though you were trying to sound convincing with your words Canary looked at you with an unconvinced raised eyebrow. — Agh! Okay, okay! When Artemis died and M'gann was crying it hurt me to see her like that, so I talked to her telepathically and that was it, but when we got to the hall of justice, and she took my hand, even if everything looked bad, that made me feel good. And not only that, when she hugged me after crossing over the z-tube, I felt like everything was going to be okay when it clearly wasn’t. I felt like I was going to be okay. And… I liked that feeling…
— I think you should talk to her, she could use some support and company right now.
— I… I will try… — You really wanted to try to talk to her, but the thought of it made you feel strangely nervous.
She made you nervous.
[•••]
You stood static in front of the door to M'gann’s room, your knuckles were only millimeters from the wood to knock on, you didn’t even know if she was there. You tried to organize your thoughts, you weren’t even sure what you would say, what if she still hated you? what if she didn’t want you around?
A sigh escaped your lips, your hand moved away from the wood of the door, not a good idea, you moved one of your feet to leave but the door burst open leaving you to face to face with M'gann.
— Sorry I… I didn’t mean to bother you. — Your cheeks tinged slightly red, the nervousness was clear in your voice.
— You’re not bothering me. — A small shy smile formed on the redhead’s lips. — Do you want to come in? — She stepped aside, allowing you to pass if you wish.
— Sure. — You moved into her room, which was much cleaner than yours.
You saw how M'gann sat on the edge of her bed so you did the same, you both stood there awkwardly for a couple of seconds, neither of you knew what to say. You didn’t know if you should tell her how you felt, or if it was too soon, or sudden. Even though you had no idea what to say you felt you had to say something, after all, you had come to see her.
— I’m sorry… — M'gann’s voice startled you, but you were more surprised by the fact that she apologized. — For the training exercise, I didn’t mean for things to end up like that. — Her face was looking down, regret and guilt were evident in her voice.
— M’gann… — You gently took her face between your hands and made her look at you, a couple of tears slid down her cheeks that you gently wiped with your thumbs. — It wasn’t your fault, none of what happened was. — You both remained silent for a few seconds, staring into each other’s eyes, you had never realized how beautiful M'gann’s eyes were. Both of you were immersed in your thoughts until M'gann broke the moment by pressing her lips to your cheek. Your mouth opened slightly in surprise and your face turned as red as her hair.
— Thank you… I certainly didn’t expect to get so much support from you, not only now, even during the exercise and… I like it… I like you… — M'gann’s face was as red as yours, her eyes looked at you begging for you to say something.
A nervous smile formed on your lips, thinking how ironic it was to think that only a couple of hours ago you two totally hated each other, and now….
— Maybe… I like you a little bit. — You watched as a small smile formed on M'gann’s lips. She jumped on you and wrapped her arms around your shoulders, in response, you wrapped your arms around her waist.
Well, that failed exercise hadn’t been so bad after all.
