Day 3 - Healthy Anime

Continuing with MEN Syndromes, we will cover MEN2B.

MEN2B does not have any other special names. Patients with MEN2B have just 1 P: Pheochromocytoma. However, they also tend to have medullary thyroid carcinoma which secrete calcitonin, and some oral/intestinal ganglioneuromatosis ie mucosal neuromas in the nasopharynx, oropharynx, larynx, and conjunctiva. Finally, these patients can exhibit Marfanoid body habitus = long/lanky.

MEN2B is definitely make me think of Murasakibara. He’s huge, tall/lanky so he’s pretty much got that Marfanoid body. He eats so much junk food that he has to develop some tongue/mucosal tumors. Think of him eating the special yellow P instead of his Pringles. He also loves the pheochromocytoma because Himuro like it. He also shares the possibility of getting that medullary thyroid cancer because he’s very yaoi with Himuro. Again, he also always sticks with Himuro so they are 2 men = MEN2.

Day 2 - Healthy Anime

Continuing with Multiple Endocrine Neoplasias (MEN). We will continue with the men of Kuroko no basket and tackle MEN2A. 

MEN2A aka Sipple’s Syndrome has 2 P’s: Parathyroid tumors and Pheochromocytomas (tumors of adrenal glands). So these patients get  hyperparathyroidism, adrenal medullary tumors (pheochromocytomas) that produce catecholamines, and as a bonus can get medullary thyroid carcinomias. 

To remember MEN2A - think Himuro. He always sticks together with Murasakibara - so they’re always 2 men ie MEN2.  He loves pheochromocytoma with all the catecholamines, metanephrines, palpitations, and sweating. It’s almost like he has a thyroid problem. He also gets PARAnoid (parathyroid - kidney stones and increased amyloid) when he’s away from his boo Murasakibara.

Day 1 - Healthy Anime

So I’m gonna start with Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia aka MEN Syndromes. Most recently when I think men in terms of anime, the anime full of men playing basketball comes to mind = Kuroko no Basket. To start off the MEN series - as there’s MEN1, MEN2A and MEN2B - we start with MEN1 aka Wermer’s Syndrome.

MEN1 has 3 P’s = Pituitary tumors, Parathyroid tumors, Pancreatic endocrine tumors. It commonly presents with kidney stones and stomach ulcers due to hypercalcemia - thus checking serum Calcium concentration is a good idea. 

So to remember MEN1 we will think of Akashi. He is has the Emperor’s Eye which means he is the EMPEROR and they have all the things - thus Akashi has all 3 P’s - Pituitary, Parathyroid, and PANCREAS THE FORBIDDEN ONE.

In summary:

Pituitary

Parathyroid

Pancreas (gastrinomas, peptic ulcers)

Make sure to check serum Ca++ esp if kidney stones/peptic ulcers

100 days of Healthy Anime

So I started “reading” -more like listening to as it’s an audiobook- Rejection Proof: How I beat Fear and Became Invincible through 100 days of Rejection. -I do recommend the book already even though I haven’t finished it yet-. This book inspired me to pick up this blog again and try and go for it for a hundred days. I’ll revisit some of my original posts but essentially I want to review different medical topics/diseases for my own review and relate them to an anime/manga/game to help me better remember topics and make it fun. I’m also going to try to improve on my drawing skills, so I will be trying to draw the characters with some relation to the topic to help me remember the medical condition/term etc. Many of the anime/manga/games will be whatever I can think of but if anyone who’s following this has ideas, feel free to send them my way. I’ll be starting tomorrow! Yay starto!
