With Soulslike becoming an actual established genre with so many games, it makes me a little sad that Salt And Sanctuary isn't mentioned very much.
I still think it's one of the best soulslikes out there, and honestly I reach for it when I want to play a souls game more than I reach for actual souls games. Because I don't have a lot of time to play and S&S is faster to progress through while still feeling challenging (third lamb, my nemesis).
I think that partly it suffered from essentially being developed by two people, which makes it less polished, and partly from coming out so early. It came out right before Dark Souls 3 which didn't give it a lot of time to breathe at all. Plus, there were almost no true soulslikes that had come out before it (other than Lords of the Fallen), so the term and the genre were not established at all. It was before Hollow Knight and The Surge and Nioh and literally all the popular soulslikes people still talk about.
I just wish Salt And Sanctuary still had more of a presence in the conversation because it really doesn't deserve to be forgotten.
Also it has one of my favorite soulslike mechanics which is letting you trade in enemy drops for ugrades in your covenants like estus charges or specific buffs or consumables that will refill when you die, some of which are unique to a specific covenant. It's such a cool way to make covenants more interactive and rewarding to engage with, and to incentivize going out killing a certain enemy for their drops, and to incentivize actually using your cool consumables, cause they will respawn just like your heals. Fucking genius mechanic.
Every time people talk about their favorite soulslikes I just want to say but did you play??? Salt and Sanctuary???

the problem with watching doctor who as a child is that a small part of your brain can never completely give up the idea that the doctor exists. if i saw a blue police box materialize out of thin air i would not be anywhere near surprised enough.

honestly the worst part about getting invested in tv shows is when you fall in love with one character but not their popular love interest
so there's practically no transformative content you can engage with
i mean, in some fandoms there's still a lot because there's an alternative love interest. But when there isn't?? I just want to read about this guy (gn) healing from trauma and nobody wants to contribute!!

the thing that gets me about buck and tommy is that they just genuinely like each other to the point where they can't help but a be a little bit nervous about it in the best kind of way and we see it in buck a lot because this is his first time he's conciously experiencing feeling this type of way about another man in general and about tommy specifically but we see it in tommy too both just before and after the kiss and then again at the café and it's just. it gets to me right because we get to see these two men who have both been searching and longing for something maybe their entire lives and somehow they ended up finding it in each other and it's new and they don't know where it'll take them or how long it will last but they like each other enough to at least give it a try and they're both so soft and tender and hopeful about it that it makes me believe in love again

So I watched through 9-1-1 partly because they made one half of the famous ship canonically queer (and partly because I was bored). And my first feeling after 3 ish seasons of the show was that Buck read very queer to me. In a way that was vaguely similar to why Dean reads as queer. And I really liked his character.
Eddie just never appealed to me in the same way. I've read some Buddie fanfic and enjoyed it a lot, but it doesn't feel to me as if fanfic authors are pulling from the actual show to make the relationship happen. It feels more like they're starting from the idea of the relationship and working backward.
Now, I'm not sure the show writers would make one half of the popular ship canonically queer and not the other, so they may still make it happen, but I don't feel like the groundwork has been laid with Eddie the way it has with Buck.
It's kind of like making Sam queer in Supernatural. It's not impossible to make it work but it also hasn't been set up or foreshadowed at all. There's an angle you could take with Eddie, like, he was with his high school sweetheart for so long and his first relationship after that was a non-starter, and it seems like he's looking for excuses not to settle into a relationship. You can work with that. But the vibes have never been there for me with him. Not with the writing or the performance. So I think it would be very difficult for the writers to do it in a way that didn't feel like it was out of the blue.
That's not me saying it can't happen like that in real life. Of course it can be an out of the blue sort of revelation. But I don't think that would be good writing in a fictional story, in this particular situation.
And the character has just always read so straight to me. And their relationship too... They're not actually as close as they are in the Buddie fanon version of the show. The fanon and the fanfiction is kind of like a parallel universe to me. I do not see it.
Also I really like Tommy. But that's neither here nor there.

So I'm on season 3 episode 10 of 9-1-1 and what I really wanna say is I get why people landed on Buck and Eddie as the ship to ship, but I'm not gonna lie, Eddie feels like the straighest man possible to me. His and Buck's friendship is sweet but I get zero vibes from him whatsoever.
Tons of vibes from Buck. All the way from the start of the show. Sure, I was kind of looking for it, but I do feel like it's there to be found. I don't get that with Eddie, I feel more like people just wanted a male pairing to ship and latched on to the most available option.
I'll be interested to see if that changes going forward but that's where I'm at now.

so let me get this straight. some guy hears a baby through the wall and everyone's immediate first thought is that the baby is inside the sewage pipe
not a single person thinks, maybe we should check the adjacent appartment?
