Babysitting Adventures
Word count : 1.2k
“Are you sure you got this?” Feyre asked for the fifteenth time. She was already so worried about Nyx’s small size and his health, and leaving him alone with Cassian and Azriel to go to a high lord meeting wasn’t exactly helping her relax.
“Of course, we do Feyre, this isn’t the first time we’ve taken care of him. We’ll be fine.” Cassian replied. But in reality, he was trembling. He knew how protective Rhys and Feyre were of Nyx, and any mistake on their side wouldn’t go unnoticed.
“Trust me Rhys, we’ll be okay. And if anything goes wrong - which it won’t - we’ll call you immediately.” Azriel tried to reassure Rhys.
“Okay,” Rhys replied, “Just take care of him.”
“And remember to give him his milk, and burp him afterwards. And he can sleep without a nightlamp, but keep his door open.” Feyre added. She could never forget the time when they had closed his door, and Nyx had gotten so scared that he had woken up the entire house with his wails.
“We’ll be fine, don’t worry.” Cassian said.
Both Feyre and Rhys sighed, but went up to kiss the 10-month-old who was soundly sleeping in Azriel’s arms. “Love you baby.” They both kissed him on the cheek, and made their way to the door. Feyre looked back at sleeping Nyx one last time, before Rhys winnowed them away to the day court-where the meeting was being held.
“Are you scared?” Cassian asked Az
Az replied in a sombre voice, “Terrified.”
“Where did you keep the bottle?” Azriel tried to ask Cassian over the screaming.
“In the kitchen dickhead, where else would it be?” Cass replied
“Then go get it. And don’t get mad at me, it isn’t my fault you can’t take care of a baby.” Az retorted
“Can’t take care of a baby he says…hasn’t even held a baby once in his life…” Cass mumbled as he made his way to the kitchen. He got the bottle and came inside the living room where Azriel was bouncing Nyx on his lap.
“Shh Shh…,” he was cooing.” There’s nothing to cry about baby…”
“Most people would kill to see such a sight you know” Cassian joked
“Just give me the fucking bottle” Az replied angrily. He took the bottle from Cass and put it near the baby’s mouth. “Good boy, just drink your milk and fall asleep...”
“He’s not a dog you know. He won’t listen to your orders.” Cass said
“Are you here to help me or make fun of me?” Az asked, exasperated
“Mainly the latter” Cassian replied.
“It would have been so much better if Mor were here” Az mused. Mor had immediately said no when Feyre had asked her to babysit by saying that she had some business at the night court to attend to. So, Cass and Az were all alone.
Nyx, who had been sucking his bottle quite peacefully until that moment, suddenly threw the bottle down and started screaming again.
“What does he want now?” Az whined
“Maybe try burping him? That’s what Feyre told us to do” Cass suggested
Az adjusted the baby and gently started stroking his back. But that didn’t seem to help, and Nyx screamed even louder.
“Az,” Cassian said, wrinkling his nose at the disgusting stench filling the room, “maybe we need to change his diaper”
“What?!” Az shrieked, “you need to do that please”
Cassian sighed and took the baby in his arms. He made his way upstairs, keeping Nyx a safe distance away from him. He laid him down on the changing mat, and whispered to himself, “I got this.”
“You’re doing it absolutely wrong Cass” Az complained from where he stood near the door, far away from Nyx and Cass.
“Maybe you want to come and try this instead of standing there. Believe me Az, I’ve cut down the most disgusting demons, but nothing comes close to this.”
“How are you going to do it when its your child, hmm?” Az asked
Cass blushed at the statement, mumbling quietly, “I don’t know what you’re talking about” he said
“Oh come on,” Az replied, “don’t think that I don’t know that you and Nesta have talked about your future together.”
“Don’t try to change the topic Az, help me. Please!” Cassian exclaimed
“Fine, fine” Az said, slowly making his way to where Nyx lay, “go get the wipes”
After making many faces and after lots of unwanted prompts from Az, Cassian finally managed to change Nyx’s diaper.
“We’re good now,” Cass said, “we just have to get him to sleep. That should be easy.”
Getting Nyx to sleep was not easy. Az and Cass tried to rock him in all directions, hold him in every way possible, but Nyx would not stop crying.
“Cass, how are we going to get him to sleep. We need help” Az asked, worried.
“I don’t know…I wish Mor were here” Cassian replied.
“I’m here now peasants” said a voice from the door. and there, standing in the doorway was Mor, in all her glory. At least, it looked that way to Cassian and Azriel.
“Mor!” they both exclaimed happily.
“How are you here? I thought you were in the hewn city.” Az asked her
“Rhys asked me to be here, he wanted Nyx in the hands of someone more capable.” Mor replied
Cass and Az looked at each other. They were going to have a talk with their high lord later. But they were glad to have their mor at that moment. Az handed Nyx to Mor, and lo and behold, he immediately stopped crying.
“Wh- what? How does he not cry with you?” Cass asked
“I’m way above you heathens. Kids love me.” Mor replied smugly. “Right Nyx, you love me, don’t you? Go to sleep now…shh...” she cooed
Az and Cass breathed a sigh of relief, glad that mor could take it from here. They were exhausted, and decided that they were going to babysit Nyx when he’s much older, and doesn’t cry while being fed.
Mor had Nyx asleep in mere minutes, and laid him down in his cot. All three of them went out of the room, remembering to keep the door open. They made their way down the stairwell, and plunked themselves down on the couch.
“When are Rhys and Feyre coming home? I don’t know how they do this every day” Az asked. “They’ll be back any minute now.” Mor replied.
Sure enough, they arrived at the front door a few minutes later. They saw the three of them laying down on the couches, and raised an eyebrow. “it didn’t go that well, I take it?” Feyre asked them
Az and Cass showed them the pictures of the evening in their minds, and both of them couldn’t help but laugh at their attempts. “Well now we know who needs more practice babysitting” Rhys joked
“What? No!” Az and Cass exclaimed. Rhys, Feyre and Mor laughed out loud at their outburst, enjoying the fact that Cass and Az were unnecessarily worrying themselves.
“Don’t worry guys, we won’t leave you alone with Nyx, not without Mor with you” Feyre said
“Oh, that’s fine then” Az sighed
And they all sat together by the fire till late, laughing at the adventures Cass and Az went through, in just in a span of a few hours. And Rhys and Feyre didn’t know what they had done to have got such lovely, dependable and – let’s be honest - hopeless friends.

I'll be there for you
word count: 889
Summary: All that rage escaped his mind when he heard a single scream pierce through the air. He would have recognized that sound anywhere. Clary. He turned around; all his thoughts now focused on just her well-being. He ran over to where she now lay on the ground, a vicious demon slowly trying to crawl over her. “Alec, I need help here!” Jace shouted, heading straight towards Clary. He leaped on top of the demon, ramming his sword through the demon’s neck. The demon shrieked, bouncing off clary. Jace slammed his sword through the demon’s groin, the blow killing the creature. He quickly wiped off the slimy blood off his sword with his shirt. He quickly averted his gaze to where Clary now lay on the ground, motionless, with Alec leaning over her.
Jace’s pov
The cacophony of battle raged all around him. He could hear screaming-hopefully not of his fellow clave members- and laboured grunts as the shadowhunters fought off the demons. This was one of the many demon attacks taking place all over New York recently. This one was particularly gruesome, and the members of the New York institute were not enough. So, they had to call for backup. Help arrived, but by then Jace, Clary and the others had already taken the brunt of the attack. Their energy had burned out, and their breaths were strained.
“How long do you think we can hold them off?” Alec asked, fighting off a sharp-clawed, red-eyed demon with his stele. “I don’t know. But a couple more minutes, and we might lose a chance of winning.” replied Isabelle, piercing her long whip through the spine of another creature.
The fight continued for what felt like eons, but what was in reality just a few minutes. Jace could feel his battle sense kicking in, the rest of the world around him slowly fading away. All that existed was him, his weapons and the demons. But all that rage escaped his mind when he heard a single scream pierce through the air. He would have recognised that sound anywhere.
“What happened? Is she okay?” Jace asked, worried about clary. “I don’t know, she isn’t moving. She has a wound on her stomach. I think she got hit by one of the claws.” Alec replied “What’s wrong? Is everything ok?” Isabelle asked, and rushed to their side along with Simon.
Jace didn’t reply. All of his attention was focused on Clary. He cupped her cheeks in his hands and tenderly ran his hands through her hair. “Clary? Hey...can you hear me love?” he asked her. Upon hearing his voice, she opened her eyes gingerly, and let out a pained grunt. “Jace?” she whimpered.
“Yeah, it’s me darling, you ok?” he replied “No…my stomach hurts...” she whined “ I know love, give me a moment. Isabelle, take your jacket and wrap it around her stomach. The rest of the people can finish the fight. Clary, stay with me baby” he told her.
But clary couldn’t keep her eyes open. The pain was making her weak, and she couldn’t focus on anything. She closed her eyes and let the darkness consume her.
Clary’s pov
Clary could feel a ringing in her ear. She felt as if her head was spinning round, even though she was laying down. She opened her eyes, her vision all blurry. She flinched at the bright light around her, but was coherent to realize that she was in her bedroom at the institute. She looked around the room, trying to find any familiar figure around her. Her gaze landed on Jace, who was sleeping on a chair, his head resting on his hands.
“Jace.” She called out to him in a hoarse voice. His head jerked up, his eyes looking for any sign of danger. He looked at her, then quickly arrived at her side. “Hey love... how are you feeling Clare-bear?” Jace asked her in a soft voice. “Not that good” she replied, shaking her head. “Hmm…you got hurt pretty bad. I’m so happy you’re okay. Do you wanna try and get up?” Jace asked her.
Clary nodded, and he supported her back and gently lifted her up. She laid her head against the headboard, closing her eyes.
“Here, drink this tea. It’ll be good for your throat.” he said, handing her a steaming cup of tea. Clary took the cup and put it up to her lips. She took a small sip and sighed, a small smile creeping up on her face. “Feels good?” Jace asked “The best. It would be better if you rubbed my head though.” She replied.
Jace chuckled and climbed on the bed softly, to avoid jostling Clary. He sat behind her, took her in his lap and put the tea down on the bedside table. He took her head in his hands, and gently massaged her temples. Clary sighed in contentment, closing her eyes.
“I hate to spoil your mood, but we have to change your dressing pretty soon.” Jace told her “God! Way to ruin the moment jace!” Clary complained.
But Jace just laughed and gently nipped at her earlobe. “Maybe we can do some other fun stuff along the way?” Jace asked her.
Clary hit Jace lightly on his head, her cheeks reddening at the innuendo. “I think I’d like that” she replied. She turned around, making herself comfortable in Jace’s lap, his presence strengthening her to face any hardships in the future.

Feyre's nighmare
Rhys’s pov
Rhys couldn’t have been happier. He was soaring over the vast snow-capped Illyrian mountains, with Feyre in his arms. As they flew, Rhys told her the names of the different peaks and important landmarks.
“And that was where Cassian, Azriel and I scaled the mountain to-” He cut off as he suddenly heard the sound of screaming. He looked down at Feyre to find that she wasn’t in his arms anymore. Panic rose in his chest, and he screamed her name as he shot up in the sky, trying to find her.
“Feyre, where are you?” he tried to ask her through their bond. But it had gone silent. He couldn’t help but imagine the worst. He could still hear the screaming. At that moment, a huge gust of wind was coming closer to him and in his dread, he couldn’t manage to gather the strength to fly up to escape it. It swept him up and the last thing he remembered was being tossed up and down before everything went black.
Rhys jolted awake to the sound of sobbing and whimpering. He took a second to calm himself down and realised that he was still in his bed. With Feyre, who was crying in her sleep. Rhys was at her side in no time, as he cupped her cheeks in his hands.
“Shh, Feyre its ok. Shh, calm down. I’m here now.” He tried to calm her down, but he knew that forcing her awake would do more harm than good. “It’s just a dream darling, you’re ok.”
He stroked her hair tenderly, trying to gently wake her up. It was only a matter of moments before Feyre came back to reality. She looked around the room with tear-filled eyes, trying to make sense of where she was. Rhys’s eyes softened as she looked at him with her eyes filled with fear, and Rhys couldn’t help but curse himself for all the pain and hurt his mate had gone through. Because of him.
“Hey,” he said tenderly, “you ok?” Upon hearing the sound of his voice, Feyre burst into tears, putting her arms around his neck, trying to get closer to her mate.
Rhys whispered sweet nothings into her ear as he hoisted her up on his lap, putting her legs around his waist, with his back against the headboard. Feyre was still whimpering his name quietly as Rhys rubbed her back soothingly. “Hey sweetheart…bad dream?” he asked her silently. Feyre nodded and showed her parts of her nightmare through the bond. Rhys could make out bits and pieces. Amarantha. Her doing the three tasks and the terror and fear that she felt during them. It was enough to give Rhys a nightmare of his own.
He kissed her temple kept running his fingers through her hair, trying to get her to relax. “You’re safe Feyre. They can’t hurt you anymore.” Rhys told her in an attempt to ease her.
“Because you’ll kick their ass?” she inquired, in a raspy voice. Rhys chuckled at her statement, tightening his arms around her.
“That’s true. But also, because now you’re strong enough to fight them off on your own.” He replied.
Feyre gave a content sigh and snuggled closer to him, comfortable enough for sleep to find her again. And Rhys was complacent to just hold his mate in his arms, to protect her from any bad dreams that might come their way, now and in the future.

Feyre’s period
Summary: Feyre starts her cycle after having Nyx, and Rhys is there to help her through the pain.
Word Count: 796
Feyre’s pov
Feyre woke up to a strong, stabbing pain coursing throughout her entire body. It felt as if someone was striking her stomach repeatedly with a knife. She couldn’t help but curse this bane. Had it been 6 months already? These fae cycles were turning out to be an even bigger pain in the ass than her human ones. Moreover, she was tired from waking up and feeding Nyx all night. Rhys tried to be as helpful as he could, but there was little he could do when feeding and the female anatomy were concerned.
His attention went straight to Feyre curled up in a fetal position on their bed, and a quick glance in her mind showed him the cause of her agony. He sighed and went to calm down Nyx. He picked up the crying baby, and cooed gently to calm him down.
“Shh, shh baby… it’s ok, daddy’s here. Stop crying Nyx, it’s ok…shh..” His soft voice quickly calmed Nyx down and he fell into a quiet slumber again.
Rhys gently put him down in his crib and went over to his mate, who was still whimpering in pain.
“Hey love, you ok?” He asked her gently. She groaned again, trying to convey her feelings without saying anything.
“I’m sorry,” Rhys said silently, “I’ll see what I can do”
“Just rub my back for now” Feyre told him. He obeyed and climbed on the bed, softly spooning her from behind. His arms snaked around her stomach, one going below her waist and one curling on top of it. He rubbed soothing circles on her stomach and kissed her hair softly.
“I think I told you to rub my back” Feyre complained. Rhys chucked softly, “I’m sorry darling”
He pushed her slightly so that she was on her stomach and then massaged her back. Feyre sighed in contentment, her pain lessening slightly.
Rhys rubbed her back for a while, then got up. “I’ll be right back sweetheart” he reassured Feyre when she tried to get up in protest. He went down the stairs and straight to the kitchen. He grabbed the soothing tea Madja had given them earlier, and picked up a pain relieving potion. He made the tea for Feyre and poured the potion, then went back upstairs to his mate.
He found Feyre sitting up on the bed, holding Nyx in her arms, with a pained expression on her face.
“Feyre…,” Rhys said disapprovingly, “ I think I told you to stay in bed”
“He started crying,” Feyre replied, “ I can’t just leave him”
Rhys sighed again, a soft smile on his face. “I know, I know. It’s just that, I can’t see you in pain. You practically gave me a heart attack the first time you got your period.”
“I’m sorry you’re so soft babe” Feyre replied with a cheeky smile on her face.
“Oh really? I’m the one who’s soft?” Rhys asked in a mocking manner. Both of them stared at each other with smirks on their face. But their moment was cut short by a sharp whine from Feyre.
“Oh sorry, I forgot. I got you this tea Madja gave us earlier. Drink it slowly. And take this pain relieving potion as well. And give Nyx to me, I’ll take care of him. You just relax and try to rest.” Rhys told her.
“Hmm..ok” Feyre replied, handing Nyx to his dad. She too the tea and the cup from Rhys’s hands and gulped down the potion quickly
“Maybe try drinking it slower next time?” Rhys advised her.
“Yeah, right. We’ll see about that when you get your cycle” Feyre complained, eliciting a soft smile from Rhysand.
But she drank her tea much slower, savouring the subtle spice of peppermint. She layed her head back on the headboard, already feeling the effect of the tea and the potion on her body.
She couldn’t help but smile at her mate, who was gently rocking Nyx in his arms, staring lovingly at his son.
“Have I told you that I love you recently?” Feyre asked him.
“Well, not recently I suppose, but in the grand scheme of things, I’m sure you have”
“Rhys.” Feyre looked at him seriously.
Rhys laughed softly, and said “I know, I love you too darling.”
And in that moment, with all of them safe and sound with each other, Feyre couldn’t help but feel that things couldn’t have turned out better.
