started to think about Eragon (absolute childhood staple piece) and how Merlin and Aithusa could have had something akin to what Eragon and Saphira had, would things have gone differently. don’t remember every single detail but i vaguely recall this part where Eragon is running, throwing up baby Saphira in the air until she flies, seemingly disappears and then comes back all grown.

so i just took the concept of them running/flying like that, Merlin cheering on, feeling that bone deep joy i imagine a dragonlord would feel upon watching these majestic creatures in the air.

don’t think immortality would’ve been so bad with a friend like that.

YUP. All of the above lol. I feel like the rise of YouTube as an income source really changed the game. Content stopped existing just for the sake of existing.

I’m right there with you shaking my proverbial walking stick at the Kids These Days with their Instagram-Reels-length attention spans, waxing poetic about GeoCities and AIM and the lost culture of underground fandom.

I met my bff through fandom. They flew across the country to be at my wedding. My teenage/early adult years were rich with online friendships that helped mold my creativity, my morals, my empathy, everything. I slipped out of actively participating in any fandom for a couple years, because Life, and coming back felt… odd? Empty, in a way? I thought it was because I’m just older and jaded and don’t Feel Things as intensely as when I was a hormonal hot mess, but damn. It really has changed.
