Alfea Academy for the Gifted and Talented: A Modern Winx Club Rewrite
Ch. 3 - Stella
By the time Stella had reached the new girl's bench, the redhead had already jumped up nervously. Her eyes flitted from side to side as if looking for an escape. Stella found this mildly amusing; she wasn't intimidating at all in her soft orange dress.
Trying to ease the girl's nerves, Stella chirped, "Hi!" She stuck out her hand, smiling widely. "I'm Stella. I love your hair!" She figured it was probably best to start off with a compliment if they were going to be friends.
"Bloom." The girl looked down at Stella's hand, but didn't take it. "Yours is nice too." Bloom didn't smile back, but Stella wasn't easily deterred.
"What are you listening to?" Stella gestured to Bloom's headphones, one of which had fallen out. Bloom shrugged a response and sat back down. Okay, so she didn't have the best social skills. That was alright; Stella could work with that. She plopped down onto the bench next to her, the stiff wood uncomfortable underneath her.
"Well, do you like pop music? I've been kind of into music from the nineties lately..." Stella trailed off, realizing that the blue-eyed girl was not paying attention to her. She had shoved her other headphone in, tapping absentmindedly on her phone.
A twinge of annoyance rippled through Stella, but she was not willing to go back on her decision. She'd just wait for Bloom to be done doing whatever it was that was on her phone! She sat quietly, her eyes on Bloom, trying to keep a smile on her face.
Finally, after what seemed like hours, Bloom sighed and looked up. "What are you doing?" The redhead looked tired.
"Trying to talk to you, of course!" Stella smiled in return, pulling her legs underneath her into a crisis cross position. "Although you're making it very hard."
"Obviously, but why?" Bloom ran a hand through her hair, her tone cold. "I'm making it pretty clear that I want to be left alone. So leave me alone."
Stella's eyes narrowed. Why was this girl being such a bitch? Stella was being perfectly nice. She was about ten seconds away from giving up on her mission when Bloom's phone buzzed. She grabbed it excitedly, her eyes scanning the screen. Upon realizing that it was an automated text, her shoulders slumped.
"No," Stella responded, more to herself than to Bloom. "I'm not going to do that. What's your first class? I can show you around." Bloom tilted her head back and quietly muttered that her first class was psychology with Professor Palladium. "What a coincidence! That's mine too!" Stella flipped her long hair over her shoulder as the bell rang.
Students of all shapes and sizes ran towards the entry, none of them wanting to be late for their first day. As the sounds of laughter mingled with the soft dinging of the school bell, Stella grabbed Bloom by the hands and pulled her towards the entrance, animatedly telling her about how wonderful Palladium is. Bloom looked overwhelmed, but that was okay. That's why Stella was there.
The girls reached the entry a bit later than the other students, but that wouldn't be too much of a problem. Palladium's class was the one closest to the entrance, marked by a sturdy wooden door and the soft smell of strawberries. Palladium loved those things, the weirdos, and the scent seemed to follow him around. Bright fluorescent lights engulfed them as they entered the class. Palladium was greeting each of the students, his dark eyes smiling kindly at each of them.
The large classroom was arranged into sections, each containing a table with two seats and lab equipment resting on top of it. Stella pulled Bloom to the closest open table, despite her arguments, and sat them down.

alfea academy for the gifted and talented - ch. 2 - stella
Stella didn't know why she felt so lonely. She had a wonderful boyfriend, a supportive group of friends, and was set to inherit her father's multimillion-dollar company. Everyone loved her. A sigh escaped her as she gazed across the courtyard to her school. A cool breeze lifted her blonde hair from her shoulders, a nice break from the warmth of the sun. The air smelled faintly of fertilizer; the school took great care in keeping the lawn green and healthy. Her best friend, Icy, chattered to Darcy about who was taking Stormy to the Welcoming Dance that night. Stella had no interest in this; she would attend, of course, because that is what everyone expected of the reigning queen bee.
"Hey, guys," she tried to change the subject. "What do you think of my new designs? They're for my portfolio for fashion school." Stella pulled out her phone to show them. Icy's platinum hair whipped around in its ponytail as she focused her cold glare on Stella. Rolling her eyes at the phone, Icy went right back to talking about her current boy toy. They didn't truly care about her, and Stella knew this. They hung around her because the rest of the school thought she was pretty. Stella knew this, but she couldn't stop herself from wishing they'd at least pretend to care. Her parents weren't particularly interested in her designs, either. Her father was dead set on her inheriting the company, and her mother wasn't even in the picture. Whenever she'd tried to show him one of her designs, he'd brush her off, or ask her what she thought of the economy. She was well and truly alone.
As Darcy'ssultry voice chimed into the conversation, Stella let her eyes fall to the courtyard again. It was all the same as last year; small cliques of girls littered the lawn, all talking animatedly. To the far left, lounging underneath a willow tree, were the environmental geeks. Stella rolled her eyes as Flora, the president and founder of the Gardening Club, tied her long brown hair up into a bun to keep it from falling in her face as she knelt over a hole in the ground. She seemed to be planting a bright yellow flower.
Planting a flower. 10 minutes before school started. A flower that she had to have brought from home, because it didn't match anything else. Ridiculous. Now she'd be covered in dirt for the rest of the day. This annoyed Stella because, as much as she hated to admit it, Flora's outfit was quite cute by her standards.
Nearing the entrance of the school were the musical kids. Stella disliked them, albeit less than most of the other cliques. She was only familiar with Musa, remembering her as a pigtailed girl from her Intro to Music Theory class freshman year. Stella had dropped that class nearly a week later, after she'd broken a very expensive nail playing the piano. Musa was dancing, her wide-legged jeans swaying, as her friends loudly played their instruments. Stella chuckled; even she could admit they were quite good.
Finally, her eyes fell to the new girl. Her hair was bright red, a color Stella had rarely seen. She was sitting on a bench, her legs crossed underneath her. The redhead looked rather lonely.
"Earth to Stella. You're wearing blue tonight." She was not, in fact, planning on wearing blue; she'd told Icy this days before.
As the new girl squinted up at the sun, Stella made a decision. She knew what it felt like to be lonely, to have no one around her care for her. Even if Stella was forced to feel that way, she'd do everything in her power to ensure that no one else did- starting with the redhead.
She spun, and made a beeline for Bloom's bench.

alfea academy for thr gifted and talented - ch. 1 - bloom
Bloom sighed, her alarm clock beeping loudly. She'd been staring at the ceiling for hours already, unable to fall asleep, but the harsh beeping signaled a mere hour before she had to be at school. Kicking off her bedsheets, Bloom shivered. The window had been left open overnight, and despite the fact that it was still summer outside, it was cold. Her room was dimly lit, the only light a sickly yellow coming in from streetlights outside the apartment. Bloom was not excited for today; it was the first day of a brand new school, and she knew firsthand how mean teenage girls could be. By the time she'd showered and brushed her teeth, it was nearly time to leave. Bloom didn't waste any time on makeup. The more unapproachable she looked, the better. She didn't want friends, not after the events of the last school year. Throwing a glance at the clock, Bloom realized she would have to skip breakfast. Being late would just draw more unwanted attention.
Bloom headed downstairs into the brightly lit kitchen, where her mother, Vanessa, was waiting for her with a small smile. Vanessa's strawberry blonde hair was pulled back into a low bun, accentuating the wrinkles in her face. Prior to last year, the only lines on her mother's face Bloom could remember were laugh lines. Now, they were worry lines, and Bloom knew those were her fault. Vanessa's car keys were in her hands already, jingling as she walked to the front door. Bloom followed, taking care to notice that her father had already left. He rarely spent any time with her anymore; both of her parents seemed scared of her. She couldn't blame them. Bloom followed her mother out of the door and into the car. It roared to life just as she closed the passenger door. Vanessa was always an impatient driver, Bloom remembered, as the car tore down the road towards Alfea. The car ride was mostly silent. Bloom had plugged in her headphones, and soft music played. Combined with the lavender air freshener and the calming movement of the car, it was nearly enough to lull her to sleep.
"Bloom..." Her mother's voice caught her attention, and Bloom paused her music. "Alfea is very expensive, you know." She nodded. The countless bills and envelopes piling up on the kitchen counter had been hard to miss, but it was the only other school in the area. She couldn't stay at her old school after the accident, and it wasn't fair for her parents to have to uproot their lives after Bloom's mistake, so they couldn't have moved. "Just... please try to make it worth it." Vanessa's voice was soft and sad, and Bloom's heart broke. She nodded and slipped her headphones back in.
The rest of the car ride was silent. It wasn't long before they were at school. Alfea was huge; giant gothic towers surrounded the main building, complete with what looked like gargoyles. Green grass spread across acres and acres of land, bushes and trees casting small shadows in the bright sunlight. Girls were sprawled all over the lawn, sitting on benches or braiding each other's hair. Bloom stepped out of the car, barely managing to say goodbye to her mother before the car was down the street. Skid marks were left in the road where her mother had driven away, and Bloom had to giggle at that.
She turned to face the school. She wished she could view it as a new challenge, but in reality, she was scared out of her mind. There were about 10 minutes before the school opened to the students. Walking to one of the open benches, Bloom pulled out her phone and sat, waiting.
That was, until, a gorgeous blonde girl approached her.
