So, the pilot, yeah... Overall, the pilot is good, like really good! but one can tell it mainly served as a first referential draft of what the show at that moment was going to be about. Is hard to say how much was solid ground, a foundation to build upon, or a temporary makeshift roof intended to be replaced later on the line. Things like King's origin, Lilith's role, Camila's absence, Eda's curse, and similar stuff were at the time probably still in development but Dana and the team wanted to start experimenting and seeing how well everything translated in animation.
Although, if I'm absolutely honest, I do like the pilot's plot more than the first episode and by a lot, mainly cuz the Comformatoriun bit was way on the nose with its message while this one feels more grounded, better paced, Luz's acting felt just better, and Lilith's inclusion really adds a greater layer of tension through the whole episode. And that ending, those last 3 minutes were glorious!
What if instead of Luz finding the demon realm, Amity is who finds the human realm? What if instead of Luz discovering the wonders of magic, we have Amity discovering the wonders of Technology?
Basically, Looking throught some Fanarts of Amity working on some machines I was struck with this idea. Like, looking back at some scenes Amity does show a little bit of talent when it comes to technology, probably as a result of trying to contain Alador's attention. So then I throught... What if Amity picked up a genuine passion for it?
Major Plot Points:
---Amity slowly develop this hobby over the years, at first, only as an attempt to gain her father's attention, but upon realizing it wasn't working, she then recognize how she genuinely liked to assemble and disassemble machines and the like for fun. At first, she did in the garage, but with Odalia constantly looking over her shoulder she move all of her stuff to her secret hideout in the library.
---Eventually, after one very bad day at school, she found some human trash at the beach and was absolutely fascinated by it (she found some computer spare parts and a couple books) this is when her fascination for human things began
---She discovers the human appreciation society and joins in, mostly as an excuse to try to find more human stuff. (Reasonably, Gus isn't a fan of her there but is willing to give her the benefit of doubt) and there she figures out the true function of some of the apparatus they have, increasing her interest even more.
---She tries to integrate human technology into her abominations as one last effort to gain her father's attention, but when it fails, horribly, she runs from home and... somehow ends up in the human realm) (Probably came across Eda's stand and accidentally enters throught the portal, haven't thought about that one)
---And... what happens after that? Honestly, I have no idea, maybe she ends up using fishing people's things, like microwaves, blenders, and phones in exchange for money to make a living while using the scrapped parts from a trash yard to keep practicing her personal inventions? Oh! And Luz, eventually she comes across Luz! Maybe... Amity sneaks inside the Reality-Check summer camp for her? And maybe Vee joins in too unknowingly to them? Too many ideas!
As mentioned, haven't given this one the amount of thought that it deserves, so if anyone is interested go ahead! give the concept a go and don't worry if my major plot points don't work with your interpretations.
here are the first concept work sketches I made for Dawn's current design. I wanted a memorable look I would have fun drawing poses and expressions for. Some big inspirations for her design are The Beldam, Cruella and Judge Doom.
Under the cut is Dawn's original design from like 2018 next to her current one
The drawing on the left was my attempt in 2021 to draw Dawn's first design from 2018, and ultimately deciding "oh this is boring as hell" and redesigning her. I so badly want to reincorporate red to her design in her lipstick and nails because I think it'd look cool. Not to say I wasn't planning to incorporate red on her design already, it's just, in a different way.
It feels right that after a year of no Owl House, TOH would give us one final, perfect gift in the form of another universe that captures everything we loved about the original, the beginning of a different yet similar story, one that will never be finished... But the potential, the endless horizons that come from any direction this other story could take, provides the basis for everlasting speculation and discussion and creation. And I think that's beautiful, a final gift encouraging us to take out our pencils and other tools and fill out the blanks and make our own stories with, just as Dana and the crew were inspired to make their own stories by watching other shows and often wanting to fill in the blanks themselves!
There was an angel in front of me, but at that time, it looked like an ordinary person. It was speaking to me inside my house, about what exactly, no idea, but overall, it appeared friendly all things considered. and next to me was a woman with curly hair whose face was a blank slate, maybe was my mother or another angel, I will never know.
Then, something happened behind me. I don't know what it was… if it was a phenomenon, or a thing, or a being, no idea, will probably never know too.
The only thing clear to me was that the angel who had noticed and… Now it no longer looked like a man. A monolith, an immeasurably big thing was standing in front of me, drenched in black blood and crimson flames. No apparent shape or form other than a mass in space. It didn't care for me, no, I became a mere ant trapped in the crossfire between the angel and what stood behind me. No human features remained, only a set of human eyes staring back at me with pure raw terror.
A few seconds later, I began crying. No out of fear for what was about to happen to me, no… Looking at the angel's eyes revealed many things, my life in perfect vivid detail, the past, present, and future all in a flashing instant. But one thing that stuck with me was…
"A daughter" I muttered those words as I broke down in the woman's lap. I was going to have a daughter in the distant future, and a second later I swore to myself to never have one. To make sure better just threw myself out of a building just to be sure. What I saw… nobody deserved to be born in a world like that…
Every time the Disney official instagram post something about Lumity I'm reminded of the crucial shack rebuilding episode we we're robbed of. Can you imagine after days of Luz and Hunter collectively drowning in their own sorrow the rest of the Hexside crew +Vee decides that rebuilding the shack as a make shift clubhouse would be a good stress reliever or as a way to have a place to practice their magic as to not scare Camila.
And their going about it the best way they can with little to no money spent cause but they keep messing up cause their here bumps in the woods or feel like their being watched and Camila has to finally point out that they are all so high strung because they've spent so long fighting for their lives that none of them actually know how to relax.
And when they finish and actually rest in their new clubhouse, Goop Man Belos is off doing his goop man shit.
