Day 30 - John Krasinki’s “A Quiet Place” 2018
Today, we celebrate modern scifi and its transformation of classic thriller elements and mystery to redefine and expand the canon of science & fantasy. We have changed the tool of consumption of scifi, and moved to the modern day screen and been given great re-tellings and new masterpieces for generations to enjoy.
Thank you all for following me on this journey of space-themed illustrations.

Day 29 - Orson Well’s “War of the Worlds” Radio Broadcast 1938
This historic broadcast put science fiction into the public mind and into a severe panic. The broadcast and dramatic re-telling was SO convincing, listeners called authorities and fled their homes to escape a Martian invasion.

Day 28 - Astrology vs. Astronomy
Science or Pseudoscience? Regardless of personal beliefs and studies, both of these fields have an influence over our daily lives.

Day 26 - Packing for your trip
Let’s say you want to spend a week in space, what would you pack? Well, not much considering that every ounce has to be equivalent in fuel.
NASA instructor and engineer Robert Frost gave us a guide:
1 pair of shoes for the treadmill
1 pair of shoes for the bike
1 pair of exercise shorts for every 3 days of exercise
1 T-shirt for every 3 days of exercise
1 work shirt for every 10 days
1 undershirt for every 10 days
1 pair work pants/shorts for every 10 days
1 pair underwear for every 2 days
1 pair socks for every 2 days
2 sweaters
2 pairs Russian overalls (optional)
But thats just clothing, every astronaut of course gets the opportunity to bring some personal items with them up into the great beyond, and it’s actually required. They are allotted a PPK (personal preference kit), a crew care package, and a OFK (official flight kit) and in each of these is an opportunity to sneak some photos, a favorite cd, etc.

Day 23 - Light-Year Chart
How big is a lightyear really? Well if earth was the size of a grape, it would be roughly 5,000 miles.
Earth - Grape
Moon - sweet pea
Sun - 4′ jumbo beach ball
Jupiter - Grape fruit
Alpha Centari - 5′ adult-sized rolley bubble
A lightyear is impossibly big to comprehend, and even larger to visualize. With a little help from Pete Harris’ 1996 scaled down description, we can start to comprehend the vastness of space.

Day 22 - Telescope advancement (not to scale)
It’s been a crazy 411 years since our first delicate telescopic device (right), and now we’re moving on one of the largest telescopes ever: Mauna Kea 30 meter telescope (left). It will have almost five-hundred 98 feet diameter mirrors!!!
This gigantic reflecting telescope will be set to operate sometime in the 2020′s.

Day 18 - DIY Constellation
A fun little trick with for you and the kiddos, and all you need are two hands and clear night.
There really isn’t much history behind constellations, other than sailors and explorers used recognizable star systems to navigate way back when. But even you can really create your own!

Day 16 - Leo Constellation
This constellation has two annual meteor showers associated with it, November & January Leonids.
The symbol of the lion is thought to be the oldest of the constellations, with a similar constellation used by the Mesopotamians nearly 4000 years ago, also called Sher/Ser, Urgula, Aryo, Artan in Mediterranean cultures.

Day 15 - Virgo Constellation
The second largest constellation in the sky, and contains one of the brightest and biggest stars, Spica.
Interestingly enough, there are several goddesses that are represented by Virgo:
Demeter (Greek, harvest), Persephone (Greek, spring), Dike (Greek, justice), Astraea (Greek, “star maiden”), Atargatis (Assyrian, fertility), and Tyche (Greek, fortune).
