The matrix project

Sometimes when your an artist you get to make yourself some really cool shit. Like a custom gold matrix ring. Thanks to @emiratexaaron and their wonderful CAD I was able to do just that!

Here we have the original pastic model for the lost wax casting I did end up having to get the cad to directly print a wax version. But I don’t have any pictures of the wax unfortunately.

Snazzy.

Casting and initial polish done! I cast it out of solid 14k white gold.

Next came my evil plan for the stone. I noticed that the dome at the top was a perfect half circle and it just might hold a cab nicely.

So I ordered in a blue star sapphire for my pretty.

Kinda hard to see the star in this pic. Dont worry it shines like it should in another shot I got.

Testing the fit

Jusssst right. Its so rare when you have a vision in you head and your project actually comes out looking like it should.

soldering the bar for the stone! i decided on the bar instead of prong for a number of reasons, but mostly the stone is so deep in the dome that prongs would have been a lot of trouble for nothing, so the bar ended up being a better choice.

polishing and then rhodium plating! and *drum roll please* the finished product! with yellow gold plate over the dome for the full look.

the star isnt really showing up good here. for those who dont know what a star sapphire is, it is indeed a sapphire, but with an odd holographic effect with shows a six pointed star.

all i gotta say is i am so fucking happy this baby came out good! im mean LOOK AT IT. its glorious. as a jeweler this ring only cost me about 400$ to make, retail its worth around 1,500$. possible more. i have a scheme about having peter cullen mayyybe autograph a picture of it. that maybe copy and engrave said autograph onto the ring. ^_^ might increase the value a bit.
