Of Art and Artristry

I love how everyone totally looses their shit about AI art, but is totally okay with artistic instances of animal abuse, where the perpetrators often gain recognition and notoriety. Let's examine a few examples to illustrate this contrast. In Exhibit 1, Damien Hirst has attracted criticism for his career involving the killing of nearly one million creatures, particularly insects. He was criticized for having sentenced 9,000 butterflies to death in his exhibition at the Tate Modern in 2012.

In Exhibit 2, artist Guillermo Vargas gained international notoriety in 2008 for shackling a starving dog beneath words made from dog food, spelling out "Eres Lo Que Lees" (You Are What You Read).

Exhibit 3 involves artist Tom Otterness, who adopted a dog from a rescue shelter, only to tie and shoot the animal to death for an exhibition in 1977.

Finally, Exhibit 4 features The art was a room with 10 blenders, each of which contained a goldfish. The fish were vulnerable to any visitor to the exhibit who chose to turn on a blender and kill them. During the exhibition two fish were killed in this way.

But lets get to my favourite part, that funny "I Can't Help Myself Robot" robot tumblr seems to love so much. Cause isn't it funny how an object that’s not alive or sentient can be programmed to work in such a way that it evokes emotions in us? Funny how living, breathing things fail to do the same. Lets get a look on several exibits from the same artists.

In Exhibit 1, titled "Soul Killing, 2000," a spotlight with a 5000-watt bulb shines behind a raised magnifying glass, focusing the light's energy onto the head of a frozen greyhound dog that rests on a metal rack. The heat causes steam to rise from the dog's skull, while its thawed blood flows downward.

In Exhibit 2, a seven-minute video showcases four pairs of American pit bulls placed face to face on non-motorized treadmills. The aggressive appearance of the pit bulls in the video is due to their attempts to charge at each other unsuccessfully, as they are attached to the non-motorized treadmills. As the dogs grow wearier and more frustrated, their mouths increasingly salivate.

Lastly, Exhibit 3 - my favourite one - known as "Aquatic Walls," exhibits various sea creatures partially enclosed within double-layered walls. The piece's multi-sensory textures emanate from the displaced and dehydrated animals, including "400 kilograms of lobsters, 30 kilograms of eels, 30 kilograms of snakes, and 20 kilograms of bullfrogs," that are hung up to dry and perish over the course of three days for the pleasure of the public.
