Happy 5th Anniversary to Ghosts!

What a joy we were blessed with when we were given Ghosts. Thank you to all involved from Series 1 all the way through to the end! You’ve left a legacy.

#biggest regret is being too burnt out and mentally ill to be aware of ghosts existence for most of this time #i'm still burnt out and stuff but honestly finding this show and coming back to fandom has helped me so much #like not to be too serious but my autistic ass needed this to cope with trying to have to be a person in society again post-pandemic #i'm so glad this show exists and that i found it eventually even if i was a bit late to the fandom party #online fandom is scary though like i have the same amount of social anxiety on the internet as in real life and i think that's unfair lol #bbc ghosts

there is something so fucked up about the prospect of memory for the ghosts like. their physical state can't change right, their clothes right themselves and cap's lap isn't getting any faster. but they can learn. robin picks up french, mary learns to read. so their brains can change. how scary it must be then, to forget. the thomas thorne affair proves that everyone's memories are slightly different, and they can misremember things. so even events that happened before they died aren't set in stone. does robin remember his children's names? does kitty picture alison as her sister at first because it takes a minute to conjure up her face? does humphrey remember sophie's voice? can fanny picture petting dante or is it a blur? as someone with adhd, my memory is an absolute sieve. I can't remember what I ate for dinner two days ago. imagine that compounding for decades. centuries. and you can't write anything down, you can't save trinkets to remind you, you can't ask someone else what you're forgetting. imagine the grief and the weight of not being able to take those memories with you. having to leave pieces of your life behind as the days march on. the sadness and the loss. it's horrible.

#i have been thinking about this so much and now i'm thinking about it again and i'm in PAIN #and i thought the exact same thing about kitty #ugh this show #i accidentally have 2000 words of fanfic notes concerning their memories #and then i see another post like this and feel like i should attempt to write it properly #i actually think it's so interesting that kitty substitutes alison and the captain into the roles of her sister and father #the memory thing is definitely my interpretation of that #but it's also really sad that their real faces only come to her when it's a painful or negative interaction #pat and julian are in a different situation because they can still see their family but eventually that will go #i doubt the captain can truly remember havers' face clearly at this point...maybe if he concentrates really hard #robin clearly remembers feelings he had for his old ghost friends but maybe that's all that's left #okay i'm going to be quiet now #and think about writing my fic #bbc ghosts

Just thinking about Alison and her artistic skills and imagining if she'd decided to do a painting or drawing of herself and Mike and all the ghosts. Like a family portrait. And she would have left it for the ghosts after selling Button House so that they knew they would always be family. And literal decades later this old family portrait is just knocking about in the attic as a memory of what they had; a dysfunctionally perfect family. And they'd never have to forget her face from that time.
