some context and info abt the sources in this piece:
i took a bible from a church near me (it's not running anymore, they turned it into an arts space so they just had a bunch of bibles lying around) that's pretty old - 1963 at the latest. in the back of it there were several maps comparing the geography of then modern day palestine to the biblical era. im not religious personally but i found it pretty fascinating and it inspired this collage. but it was also a reminder - Jerusalem, Nazareth, the holy land, it is in Palestine. it will never ever belong to israel. even though the Nakba already happened by the time the edition of the book was published i felt so much despair looking at Palestine's 50s/60s era borders and knowing how much violence and ethnic cleansing they had been and were going to be subjected to by zionists. the map of Palestine in this collage and the word itself were taken from a photocopy of the bible (photocopied bc i didn't want to cut up the book).
the Hebrew/Arabic text is from a prayer for peace I got when I attended a vigil for Palestine at my campus - "Mother's Prayer For Peace" by Sheikha Ibtisam Mahamid and Rabbi Tamar Elad. the picture of the ruins taken from the magazine is actually a picture of Jordan - included bc Jordan and Palestine are culturally similar and many Jordanians are actually Palestinians who had to flee their country due to the occupation. Jesus and the crosses - self-explanatory. the fence - bc of its use in the keffiyeh pattern. and the rest were generally just random things i took from my collection that had the colors of the Palestinian flag - red, black, white, green. 🇵🇸
pray - ensh'Allah - it will be called Palestine.

I shot an angel―
its white wings, golden halo
bathed in holy light.
I shot an angel―
One .50 caliber bullet between its eyes
I heard the body fall, the death gurgle.
I shot an angel―
God will be here soon.
The lumbering in the sky; it's time.
He will come to reclaim his slain angel
and its wicked murderer.
