I added some light green to the edges of the leafs. Don’t know if I want to make some adjustments but we’ll see.

I did some more painting today. I’m still going to add more color to the leafs and then I’m going to continue to the rest of the sculpture.

Cowplant WIP
I finally brushed the dust off this little guy and continued painting it. It is taking me an eternity to finish this but I’m getting there.  I also finally decided to make an instagram account that I’ll hopefully keep and update, if you want you can follow me @ladyjoyceley.

Here is how far I got with painting today. I am painting the green parts of the plant first. Trying to recreate the gradients on the stem and leaves is probably the hardest part. I am layering on the gradients and then I will add more detail as I go. After that I will repeat the same process on the leaves.

Finally started painting! :) Which means I am nearing the end of this project. I already started on something else a while ago so that is what I will be working on next. But for now I will be busy painting. After I have painted the plant I will make fake dirt to fill the rest of the terra cotta pot with. I put some paper towel around the pot so it wouldn’t get paint on it while I am painting.

I sanded and then put another coat of paint on it today. I am almost ready to start giving this monster some color! I hope you guys are looking forward to the end result, I know I definitely am.

I finally got around to buy some spray-paint. I put the first base coat on the cowplant so after it has dried I can start sanding again. I’m going to put a couple of coats on this while sanding in between coats. I covered up the lower half of the sculpture so I wouldn’t get paint on the flower pot, which I want to keep the way it is.

I added thorns, some more roots (which I am not quite satisfied with so I may remove/redo them) and I attached the “body” to the flower pot. I put some sculpey there for support while the Apoxie inside is curing.

I made some progress on the cowplant today. I added the first roots and drilled an extra hole with my dremel for the tail. I had to cut of the tail from the body, which wasn’t in my game plan for this sculpture but it had to be done (sadface). I am adding some more roots after these apoxie roots are cured.

I bought a couple of small terra cotta pots. I bought a back up terra cotta pot and a back up for my back up, just in case..I was afraid I would break them when doing what I was planning on doing, which was drilling holes into them. My first attempt went fine thankfully. The holes in the pot are a bit too neat and round so I will try and rough them up a bit. When I was on the hunt for the terra cotta pots I also bought a base for the whole thing to rest upon.

Cowplant WIP
I haven’t quit Tumblr, I promise. I started working on my little cowplant again. I finally added more leaves. It took a couple of trial and errors and much frustration but I got some leaves going on now! I did some work on the mouth, sanded the stem and other leaves and shaped the teeth a bit more. I am going to add thorns soon and add some more detail to the leaves. Not much more to do now until I can start priming, which will be interesting now that I live in an apartment.
I don’t know why but I haven’t really been feeling creative the last couple of months. I felt a spur of motivation the other day though, so I did some work on this sculpture and even bought some new clay (Super Sculpey Medium Firm!) the other day for a different sculpture I am working on.   I’m trying to get myself in a creative mood again by scouring Pinterest boards and watching videos. Hopefully I can get myself to stay motivated and finish this little creature in the near future.  And thanks again to the people who are still following me. I know I have been very absent but you guys are much appreciated.

I did some sculpting today and yesterday. I made some more leaves and I started sanding the body. Still have to finish the mouth but I’m gonna wait with that a little longer.

I’m having a bit of a fight with the leaves on my little monster’s head. This is my....4th attempt? Hopefully there won’t be a 5th, but there probably will be hahah. I haven’t worked on it much this past week (not at all really...) but I hope I’ll feel up to working on it more this week. In other news ; I’m going home for Christmas! I’m really excited to see my family and our dogs again, I miss them a lot. The jet-lag will be worth it!

I’m working on some leaves right now, she needs quite a few. Got a couple more to go but it’s past 9pm so I’m done for today. It’s going to be fun to paint this one I think! :)

Her head is taking shape! I am not satisfied with the mouth yet so this still needs some work but here is a progress picture anyway.

I made the upper part of the head and baked it so I can work on the lower half of the head without distorting the rest. I’m going to put some more Apoxie on the leaves to give them a bit more shape and refine them.
