Not content with PD'ing the films for the RIBA Stirling Prize nominees last year, I did it all over again in 2023! As ever huge thanks to my creative partner Louise Morton Murray of BYOC Films who shot and produced all of the films alongside me both years, editing three of them. Huge thanks also our drone op Sam Fenton who joined us for the first time this year and did a stunning job. As ever, final and biggest thanks go to Eddie Morgan, our brilliant exec, of Northern Town. Here's the John Morden Centre by Mae; I'm a bit biased because I fell in love with this place and the people on our shoot days. I also edited as well as PD'ing this one.

At the end of 2022 I was lucky enough to produce, direct and edit a series of films for Northern Town’s commission to document each of the RIBA Stirling Prize nominees for the year. This is the film I made for the winning building, The New Library, Magdalene College in Cambridge by Níall McLaughlin Architects. We have the brilliant Terry Wilson of Pixel Kisser on drone, with everything else shot by either myself or Louise Morton Murray of BYOC Films.

Towards the end of Summer 2022 BYOC Films were delighted to produce this film on Amway seller Abigail for our friends at Hoozens Creative Agency in the USA. I was the DoP on this and co-produced the filming with director Louise Morton Murray. We had a great couple of days shooting with Abigail and her wonderful family as she pursues her dream of success and financial independence, after leaving her NHS career behind.

I was delighted to produce this trailer for the debut solo exhibition from the fast-rising art star Harry McMorrow. ‘Come As You Are’ presents an all-new body of work created in the artist’s signature hand-tufted tapestry approach, centered around the themes of 90s’ pop culture, childhood nostalgia and iconography from that influential era.  I’m also thrilled to call Harry a good friend!
Produced by BYOC Films, shot and edited by Michelle Tofi.

My brilliant friend Sonia Boyce has just won the prestigious Golden Lion at the 59th International Venice Biennale for her work 'Feeling Her Way', which I'm extremely proud to announce features a series of films I directed and edited with a talented crew of camera ops, steadicam op and vision mixer. Deftly co-produced by my BYOC Films compadre, Louise Morton Murray. We are so happy for Sonia and all those who helped make this work happen; I'm also a not insignificant amount thrilled for myself, as working with Sonia has been a real dream for the last 12+ years - including directing and editing her previous outing at the Biennale, with the film work "Exquisite Cacophony".
For more info read on... @britisharts are delighted to introduce ‘Feeling Her Way’, this year’s British Pavilion exhibition for the 59th International Art Exhibition – @labiennale.
‘Feeling Her Way’ is a major solo exhibition of new work by acclaimed artist Sonia Boyce. This ambitious exhibition incorporates mixed-media and video installations in a celebration of creativity, improvisation and the power of the voice.

In March and April 2022 I delivered a series of 3 films for Intelligence Squared in Collaboration with Y Tree, each exploring a different aspect of our ‘FutureVerse’. This is the first, in which chef, author and restaurateur Thomasina Miers tackles the future of food, and what might happen as our climate changes. I was the director, main shooter and editor of these films, which also tackled themes around the future of our cities and the future of the internet.

Here’s a film I made with director Alison Grist for Holtermann Fine Art Gallery. In this film we take a look at the work of artist Olivia Bax, as she presents Home Range, a show of new sculptures created from steel armatures, discarded materials and hand generated paper pulp. I was DOP and editor on this one, and it was a pleasure to make!

It was an utter delight to direct and edit this film with the brilliant Ade Adepitan for ArtUK and BBC Teach as part of their collaborative project “The Superpower of Looking”. Filmed in the Courtauld while it was still being renovated, it was a real thrill to have a sneak preview of the revitalised space and get up close and personal with the master himself, Vincent Van Gogh.
If you have, teach or know children in Key Stage 2, or would even like to know more about how to unlock the power of critical analysis through art, please do visit the BBC Teach resource page for more videos featuring  , and to learn more about this brilliant project.  As so many times before, huge thanks to exec producer Eddie Morgan of Northern Town for asking me to direct, and to Phil Macdonald of Freelance Films for lensing the film.

I was fortunate enough to work with Waiting for Smith on the music video for Life She Don’t Lie in 2021. I served as rough cut / offline editor, and then took my first pro colour grading credit for finishing off the piece in the colour suite.
This was a tough film to grade as the video blends significant amounts of stock footage from all over the world (as well as NASA’s own space footage library) with footage of Waiting for Smith in situ, so the grade work was quite a monumental task as we aimed to get a consistent colour palette throughout, tricking the viewer into never quite knowing what is stock footage and what isn’t. I’m very happy with how it’s turned out.

This is City!
This is one of my most favourite pieces of professional work to date. I’m so thankful that City of London School for Girls put their trust in me to write, direct, produce and edit this film introducing their school to prospective students, parents and teachers. We worked really hard as a team to capture the spirit and ethos of CSLG, taking inspiration from the school motto ‘Finding Space to Pioneer’ to craft a film that feels full of the life and energy of the school as it really is. You may also notice someone familiar on the voice over recording...

Well well what a year 2020 has been!
Amazingly I’ve been extremely busy despite the pandemic, working through lockdown 1.0 on the preproduction of this - my comedy / fiction TV directing debut for Sky Arts!
I was thrilled to work with the brilliant and visionary artist Sarah Maple on bringing her world first concept “art-com” to life; a series of 6 standalone short films charting the trials and tribulations of the modern day working artist, culminating in a 65 minute feature compilation of the films airing on Sky Arts. The films are also available on Now TV for the next five years, so do check them out! We were lucky enough to get some fantastic guest stars, including David Tennant, Sonia Boyce, Will Gompertz, Kate Bryan and Nikki Bedi, and I think there’s something for everyone in the off-beat humour we built into Sarah’s world. Above is the trailer - enjoy!
Big thanks to Edward Morgan at Northern Town for backing the project and exec producing it, and to my amazing producer Louise Morton Murray who got the job done from a different country during a crazy time for us all!

How’s your quarantine been? My partner had our son during lockdown 1.0 so despite everything I was grateful to be able to be at home for the start of her maternity leave and to be there 24/7 for the late night feeds and screaming sessions!
Among a few projects I was very thankful to work on during the pandemic is this series of films for BBC Arts, the “Get Creative at Home Masterclasses”. Featuring names from all corners of the arts arena, from designer Paul Smith, Tony winner Cynthia Erivo and artists like Antony Gormley and Rana Begum, I was fortunate enough to edit the majority of these self-shot tutorials and also serve as “technical producer”, advising our participants on how to best self-film their material for the series.
The series was produced by the brilliant indie Northern Town and exec produced by Edward Morgan. Check them all out here: https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p08blkrj/episodes/player
