hello, people. please listen to what i have to say. it’s kind of long but really important.

TW: suicide mention (not graphic)

a student in my school district just killed himself. 

i looked through his instagram page. months ago, the comments on his posts were hateful. i’ve heard awful rumors about him before. obviously, he wasn’t the most liked person, but i didn’t know him that well. i regret that. a lot.

now that he’s gone, people have started to pretend he was their best friend. they’re pretending that they’ve never done anything to contribute to his feelings of self hatred or depression. instead of apologizing, they’re acting like they had always loved him and thought of him as a saint. it’s utter bullshit. 

(disclaimer: yes, it’s totally normal to feel feelings of regret or denial, and it’s clearly a very sad event, but it’s obvious that’s not what they’re doing here.)

your words have an impact on people. they do. you might not think much of a rude comment you say to someone, but as a person who has been bullied, you might not know how much it affects someone. you don’t know everyone’s current situation, whether it’s at home or purely mental. 

it’s literally not that hard to be nice to people. not to sound like a poster in an elementary school counselor’s office, but if you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all. when you do have something nice to say, please say it. it’s so wonderful when people take five seconds to compliment someone, because even if you don’t think much of it, it might make someone’s day. and if you see someone being bullied, stick up for them. please. by letting people know that, deep down, they’re loved, you could actually save a life.

and if you’re a person reading this who has attempted suicide, or even thought about it, please know that you’re so loved, even if you don’t feel that way. your life matters so much. take this as a sign to keep going.

my PMs are always open to anyone who needs to talk. if you think you’d be a burden, i personally want you to know that even if i’m busy, i’ll literally stop whatever i’m doing to make sure you’re safe, even if i don’t know you.

to sum everything up: just be nice to people. you have a much bigger impact than you might think.

this isn’t history-related, but it pisses me off, so please reblog this. 

my mom's watching law and order in the other room and one of the characters referred to LGBTQIA+ as just "LGBT," and another character (an LGBTQIA+ activist, i assumed) corrected him by saying "LGBTQIA." i got really fucking hopeful because she was recognizing these identities, but when someone asked her what the "QIA" meant, she said "Queer, Intersex, Ally." not to be a dramatic bitch or anything, but as an asexual, my heart shattered. this was said by someone who either "supported" or was a part of the LGBTQIA+ community.

i'm going to say this one more time:

THE "A" IS FOR ASEXUAL/AROMANTIC/AGENDER. ALLIES ARE NOT PART OF THE LGBTQIA COMMUNITY. IT IS NOT A SEXUALITY OR GENDER IDENTITY. YOU ARE CISHET. YOU ARE NOT OPPRESSED FOR SUPPORTING US.

I AM SICK OF THESE IDENTITIES GETTING ERASED. IF YOU CLAIM THE A IS FOR "ALLY," GET OFF MY BLOG.
